Lightning prospect named to roster for World Junior Summer Showcase

While things at the NHL level are pretty quiet these days, it’s a big month for some of the prospects around hockey. Rosters for the four teams competing in the World Junior Summer Showcase later this month are being released. The round-robin competition doesn’t quite have the pomp and circumstance of the U20 World Junior Championship held at the end of the year, but for a lot of younger players…

Catching up with the Syracuse Crunch

It’s time to play a little catch-up with some of the news that fell through the cracks over the last few weeks as we focused on the NHL draft and free agency. Down on the farm, there have been some major changes with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. There is a new boss (who is literally the same as the old boss), an old friend returns, and they made some small…

Lightning add veteran forward on one-year deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to add to their roster (and that of the Syracuse Crunch) as they announced the signing of veteran forward Scott Sabourin to a one-year, two-way contract. While financial terms weren’t released by the team, Puckpedia is reporting that it the NHL salary is $775,000 with the minor-league portion at $250,000. The undrafted forward was originally signed as a free agent…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #24 Tristan Allard

Say hello to one of the scouting staff’s best finds over the last few seasons. Will Tristan Allard finish his story and make it to the NHL this season? There is a fighting chance. There may not be a better story of taking advantage of the chances given to a player than Tristan Allard. His story is also one of perseverance and making the most of opportunities.

Lightning Morning News: The official Stadium Series logo has been released

It’s not a uniform. Nor is it an announcement as to when tickets will go on sale, but at least it’s something. On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the NHL released the official game logo for the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series game between the Lightning and the Boston Bruins. As expected, the logo leans into Tampa’s pirate history. The red “x” on the treasure map in…

Lightning Morning News: Some familiar names sign in different places

The free agent signings are still trickling in as the summer meanders its way through August. While there hasn’t been any movement on the major restricted free agent front, a couple of familiar names inked deals that will give them a shot at making the NHL. First up is Jaydon Dureau. The former Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick is trying his hand in a different organizations after not being…

Some possible PTO options for the Tampa Bay Lightning

Here we are. It’s the first week of August and hockey still seems light years away. In all honestly, we’re only about a month away from prospect showcases starting. Players are wrapping up their vacations and dedicating themselves to getting ready for training camp and the long grind of a compacted schedule. Yet, there are still some free agents lingering out there. There does seem to be a…

Changes are in the air…or at least on the side of the building

On Wednesday, a gaggle of higher-ups for the Tampa Bay Lightning gathered outside of a building that has brought a lot of joy to fans for almost three decades. It’s a building that has a few names in the past, and now, for an unspecified time into the future, will have a new one. It began life as the Ice Palace, celebrated the organization’s first Stanley Cup as the St. Pete Times Forum.

The State of the Blog Address – 2025 Summer Edition

Hey, folks. How’s it going? It’s your old friendly neighborhood managing editor, Justin G. Sorry, things have been a little quiet around these parts, but with the off-season in full effect, and the Lightning being their usual boring selves, I figured it was a good time to take a little time off to decompress. That time is over (even if I’m heading out west for a vacation) so we’re getting back to…

Ryan McDonagh and Jake Guentzel invited to Team USA Orientation Camp

Even with their two best players not allowed to participate in the upcoming Winter Olympic games, the Tampa Bay Lightning will still be well represented. With Russia still banned from international play, Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy will have a nice long break in February, but several of their teammates will be heading to Italy for the XXV Winter Olympic Games. On Tuesday…

Lightning Morning News: The League is slowly waking back up

After a couple of weeks of inactivity, it appears things are slowly building back up as we hit the final week of August. There were some signings, some news about international tournaments, and an injury update. On the Tampa Bay Lightning front, not much. It appears that there is some frustration with the Stadium Series pre-sales for season ticket holders, but that’s usually the case for these…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #25 Kaden Pitre

It begins! The annual ranking of Tampa Bay Lightning prospects under the age of 25 is here. Things start off with a newcomer – Kaden Pitre. The most important stat from Kaden Pitre’s 2024-25 season was games played. After a 2023-24 season interrupted by injury, the Flint Firebird put together a solid year to lead his OHL team with 53 points.

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #23 Caleb Heil

The Tampa Bay Lightning are slowly building a cadre of decent goaltending options. Will they strike gold in the seventh round of the draft for the second year in a row? Our first thought whenever writing about goaltending prospects is, in the words of many before us, “Goaltending is voodoo.” Honestly, we rarely know how an 18-year-old shotstopper is going to…

Lightning announce roster and schedule for upcoming prospect tournament

In another sign that the 2025-26 NHL season is coming close to getting underway, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced the roster and schedule for their upcoming 2025 NHL Prospect Tournament, presented by Florida Blue. Once the youths hit town, it means it’s only a matter of days until the veterans join them for training camp. Then the real fun begins. The Lightning will play host this year as…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #22 Milo Roelens

The Tops 25 Under 25 rolls on with a large newcomer to the list. After his first full season in the organization, Milo Roelens makes his debut. The first thing you notice about Milo Roelens is his size. At 6’7″ he stands out on the ice, unless he was on the ice with Jack Finley (6’6″) and Logan Brown (6’7″). The second thing you notice is that he moves around…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #21 Jack Harvey

It’s kind of surprising that this is Jack Harvey’s first time making the countdown. Can the forward come out of the shadow of some of his more highly-touted teammates to take the next step? It appears that we are way higher on the potential of Jack Harvey than just about everyone else in the Tampa Bay Lightning community. That’s okay. Sometimes you have an…

Lightning Morning News: Hockey Month is here!

That’s right, folks. We’ve made it through the long, hot summer and by the end of this month we will have some sort of competitive hockey. Yes, they might just be preseason games, but they’re still games against different opponents and a chance to watch our favorite team on the ice. Signs of hockey life are taking place at The Bench. Paint it, and they will come.

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #20 Benjamin Rautiainen

Another newcomer to the list as the Tampa Bay Lightning dip into the over-age European bucket of prospects to select Benjamin Rautianen. Benjamin Rautiainen is a type of player the Tampa Bay Lightning have been taking a shot on more and more over the past couple of years. While the bulk of their picks still fit the “high hockey IQ, 200-foot player” mode…

How the new NHL/NHLPA CBA timeframe may affect a Lightning prospect

Earlier this week, news dropped that some elements of the memorandum of understanding between the NHL and the NHLPA would roll into effect earlier than the September 15, 2026 start date for the agreement. While the vast majority of the early implantations dealt primarily with the salary cap, including the new playoff cap rules, one particular element might be of interest to fans of prospects.

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #19 Gabriel Szturc

We have our first repeat member of the countdown! After his first full season in the pros Gabriel Szturc moves up two spots from his 2024 ranking. When a team trades away a majority of their picks, they have to find talent from unlikely sources. For the Lightning, junior hockey remains one of those wells they like to tap into. To be more specific…
