Three players to keep an eye on at the Lightning prospect showcase

It’s that time of year! Time to get overly excited or wildly depressed over the performance of players who won’t suit up for the Tampa Bay Lightning at any point in the season. Yup, it’s prospect showcase season. The Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, and Nashville Predators will spend the weekend in a sparsely attended practice rink watching their future stars battle it out.

Some quick thoughts on the first prospects game

In the end it was the Nashville Predators’ prospects that picked up the win, 3-2, over the Tampa Bay Lightning’s prospects. While it is always nice to pick up a victory, how the game was played is more important than the final score. For the most part, it was a fairly well-played game for the Bolts that provided a pretty accurate representation of where their prospect group is at a whole.

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s quest to never lose again got off to a good start as they took down the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1, to kick off their preseason slate of games. Goals from Emil Lilleberg (!) and Mitchell Chaffee (on the power play) proved to be enough as Jonas Johansson stopped 30 of 31 shots.
