SLC Puck podcast: Utah gets it right naming Veggie team MVP



The Utah Hockey Club made its inaugural season home finale a celebratory occasion, even with an overtime shootout loss to the Nashville Predators. After the game ended, the team awarded end of year honors to select players, including goaltender Karel Vejmelka, who was voted by his teammates as the team's most valuable player. SLC Puck host Austin Facer commends the Club for making the right call and naming "Veggie" the MVP.

The Arizona Coyotes were sold to Ryan Smith, moving to Utah in 2024. Ryan Smith's engagement with players eased the transition, fostering excitement for Utah. SALT LAKE CITY — Nick Bjugstad was sitting in a park with his wife, soaking in the spring sunshine of Arizona, when the text came in. It's been a year now — April 18 — since the news became official that the Arizona Coyotes' hockey assets were being sold to Ryan Smith and moving to Utah.

One Utah Hockey Club player already says he's not coming back. What about the rest of the team's free agents?

With its inaugural season in the books, Utah Hockey Club will take the summer to evaluate its personnel, what the team needs moving forward and what it can let go of. As part of that, general manager Bill Armstrong has a group of Utah free agents that he will have to decide whether to re-up or let walk. Michael Carcone made his situation very clear. The forward will not be back with Utah Hockey Club next season.
