Titans opening odds: Tennessee a 3.5-point underdog vs. Chiefs

gettyimages-2240850583.jpg

The Kansas City Chiefs come to Nissan Stadium to take on the Tennessee Titans this week. Before yesterday, that game looked like another one that the Titans had no chance at winning. This defense, being as banged up as it is, against Patrick Mahomes would be a blowout. Well, Mahomes went down with a torn ACL yesterday. That means the Titans will get the Chiefs with Gardner Minshew at the helm.

The Titans are currently a 3.5-point underdog over at FanDuel Sportsbook. Look, I’m still not touching that line. As I sit here on Monday, do I think the Titans have a chance to cover? Absolutely, I do, but if we know anything about this team, we know that they are wildly inconsistent. That makes them a terrible team to ever bet on.

We also don’t know what the Chiefs ‘ mindset will be coming into this game. They were eliminated from the playoffs yesterday. It is the first time they will not be a part of the postseason in over a decade. There are also rumors out there that Andy Reid could be retiring at the end of the season. All of that to say, there are a lot of things going on with Kansas City. How locked in will they be when the game kicks off on Sunday?

It might be worth sprinkling some money on Titans +3.5….

Titans offensive line has figured something out in recent weeks

gettyimages-2251391048.jpg

The Tennessee Titans entered the season with expectations on the offensive line. General manager Mike Borgonzi signed Dan Moore Jr. to a lucrative contract to play left tackle. Veteran Kevin Zeitler also joined the offensive line via free agency.

Lloyd Cushenberry is on a $50 million contract. Peter Skoronski and JC Latham complete the offensive line as first-round picks. Despite those investments, the Titans’ offensive line failed to meet expectations early.

A switch has completely flipped in recent outings. The offensive line was outstanding throughout the 31-29 Week 14 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Cam Ward had more touchdowns (2) than sacks (1) in that game. Tony Pollard rushed for a career-high 161 yards and two touchdowns (6.4 yards per carry) via 25 carries.

They built on that momentum throughout Sunday’s Week 15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Ward enjoyed his second consecutive multi-TD passing game. The pocket was beautifully clean on his 34-yard score to Gunnar Helm. Ward wasn’t sacked at all. The 49ers are one of the worst pass-rushing units in the league. The offensive line took full advantage of a positive matchup.

#Titans QB Cameron Ward on the offensive line's performance: "I think we're playing very good, especially up front." https://t.co/ekHBzxgxKc

— 104-5 The Zone 📻 (@1045TheZone) December 15, 2025

The Titans also ran the ball effectively again. Pollard gained 104 ground yards and scored a touchdown via just 14 attempts. Pollard, who looked totally finished a few weeks ago, averaged 7.4 yards per carry. Tyjae Spears averaged 11.3 YPC, rushing for 34 yards on three carries. It’s a shame the Titans trailed by so many points and couldn’t stick with the run.

Some thought maybe the Cushenberry injury improved the Titans’ offensive line. Corey Levin had stepped into the lineup flawlessly. But Cushenberry returned to the lineup on Sunday and they didn’t miss a beat up front in pass protection or run blocking.

The offense has gotten significantly better since parting ways with Brian and Bill Callahan. Moore, Skoronski, and Latham are guaranteed to return next season. Zeitler is a pending free agent. Cushenberry is a potential cap casualty, but his chances to stick improve if the offensive line performances stay consistent over the upcoming final three weeks.

Titans place three safeties on injured reserve

gettyimages-2250593292.jpg

In the first half of the game on Sunday, the Tennessee Titans saw three safeties go down to injuries. Today, all three of those safeties, Kevin Winston Jr., Xavier Woods, and Mike Brown, were placed on injured reserve. It’s really unfortunate to see Winston down for the rest of the year. He’s a guy who has played pretty well in limited time this season.

To replace those guys, the Titans signed Erick Hallett from the Detroit Lions practice squad and Sanoussi Kane from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Those guys will probably see some pretty extensive playing time on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. At least they won’t have to face Patrick Mahomes.

You know, Dennard Wilson has really done a remarkable job this year, considering the personnel he has had to work with. Every week, it seems like they are having to bring guys in and put them on the field right away. It’s tough to have a lot of success doing that.

Adam Schefter confirms Amy Adams Strunk fired Brian Callahan

gettyimages-1880105498.jpg

If you have been paying attention at all, you already knew that Amy Adams Strunk was the one who fired Brian Callahan earlier this season. All of the messaging this offseason was that Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi were going to be patient this season. They knew the Tennessee Titans were facing an uphill battle this season due to the overall state of the roster. There was no reason to bring Callahan back this year just to fire him in early October.

Yesterday, Adam Schefter was on Cover Two with Zach Lyons and Blaine Bishop on 104.5 The Zone here in Nashville, and more or less confirmed the order to fire Callahan came directly from AAS. So, after all of the talk about how she was going to take a step back and let her football people run the football operations, she once again got mad and made a rash decision. Was it the wrong decision? Well, that is up for debate. It was pretty obvious that Callahan was in over his head, but firing him during the season didn’t really help the team at all.

The more important question now is, what does this mean for Brinker/Borgonzi when trying to hire the next coach? Is a potential candidate going to look at this situation and not want to come here because the owner has a tendency to make quick, often irrational decisions?

A few years ago, AAS seemed like one of the best owners in the NFL. Then, Jon Robinson traded A.J. Brown, and the wheels came off. Of course, it’s not really that simple, but it’s hard not to trace it all back to that night.

Pair of Titans reserve offensive linemen could be key to offseason plans

gettyimages-2229932378.jpg

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi will be tasked with adding premium talents at premium positions this offseason. The lack of difference makers at wide receiver, EDGE, and cornerback has especially been evident throughout this 2-12 season. Despite the big and obvious items on the to-do list, Borgonzi can’t neglect the lesser-priority depth issues, either.

The Titans have really improved across the offensive line lately. They’ve allowed a combined one sack in the previous two games. Tony Pollard is running the football with renewed vigor, and Cam Ward has consecutive multi-TD passing performances. In those two contests, the Titans have scored the most (31) and second-most (tied, 24) points of the season.

Titans C Corey Levin was excellent in Cleveland 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/ndzYVKaaiz

— AtoZ Sports Nashville (@AtoZSports) December 12, 2025

That’s despite dealing with numerous injuries up front. Corey Levin recently started multiple games at center before Lloyd Cushenberry returned in Week 15. Midway through the Cleveland Browns victory, Oli Udoh replaced Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle. Udoh then started this past weekend’s game versus the San Francisco 49ers.

Levin and Udoh have done excellent work in spot starts. Levin started that Browns game that produced 31 points and 184 rushing yards. Udoh entered midway through the contest and helped limit Myles Garrett. In Week 15, the veteran swing tackle helped keep Ward clean (zero sacks).

Both Levin and Udoh are pending free agents. Most NFL teams are dissatisfied with their offensive line depth. Despite the Titans being inconsistent up front this season, they can’t complain about the jobs Levin and Udoh have done.

Levin feels especially notable. Cushenberry is a potential cap casualty this offseason. Whether the Titans cut Cushenberry or not, Levin provides good depth at both center and guard (he stepped in for Kevin Zeitler at right guard momentarily).

Moore has also dealt with injuries and occasional inconsistencies at left tackle. Udoh has performed at an acceptable level given the current state of backup NFL offensive linemen. The Titans should re-sign both Udoh and Levin this offseason.

A Titans Head Coaching Profile: Mike McCarthy

gettyimages-2190092440.jpg

Mike McCarthy is the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers and has the biggest profile out of anyone who is potentially up for the Titans’ job. If anything, he may be the most vanilla, boring candidate I cover because, well, we know what we’re getting from him. He’s a professional who’s done the job before, and even though the chances are he’s not gonna lead the next big dynasty or anything, he’ll be stable and get the job done. This is one where I’m confident a big majority of people will not be too upset about the idea, but more bored with it. It’s the easy connection; he’s what everyone in the building seems to want, and he is an offensive mind, which, even though management doesn’t seem to care which side of the ball the person leans, it would probably be smart to at least think about Cam Ward’s development in this hire.

That brings the question, though, can Mike McCarthy be the man to develop Ward into a good if not great QB? Well, that’s in some ways what this article is for: I present the positives and negatives along with the coach’s background, and I let y’all choose. So, without any further interruption, this is the Mike McCarthy head coaching profile

Mike McCarthy’s background

First off, let’s take a look at his coaching background and how we got to this point. McCarthy got his start all the way back in the ripe year of 1987 as a grad assistant at a small college called Fort Hays State. After spending two years there, McCarthy went on to be a grad assistant at Pitt from 1989 to 1991 and was then promoted to receivers coach in 1992. After his stint at Pitt, McCarthy was then hired to be the Offensive quality control coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 and 1994, then was promoted to be the quarterbacks coach from 1995-1998.

He left for the same position with the Packers for just the 1999 season because after this, he got a huge job. The New Orleans Saints hired Mike McCarthy as their next Offensive Coordinator, where he would stay for the same time as the first term for President George Bush (2000-2004). His offenses in New Orleans ranked 10th, 13th, 3rd, and 14th, and the year after he left, the offense ranked 30th. He went on to leave his job with the Saints to work with the San Francisco 49ers for the 2005 season, where his offense ranked the worst it had been at 30th in the league, a down year, but it didn’t stop his next move.

In 2006, the Green Bay Packers decided to hire Mike McCarthy as their next head coach, and he would stay there until 2018. I’ll cover most of his stuff here in the positive and negative sections of this article. All I’ll say here is, he won a Super Bowl with the Packers, and exited unceremoniously.

After his years with the Green Bay Packers, he took a year off from the game to learn the analytical side of the game. After that year off, Jerry Jones offered him the head coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys, which he took. He stayed there until 2024, where he had three 12-win seasons and then caught beef with Jerry Jones thanks to a contract dispute, which led to them parting ways after the 2024 season. He did well enough in Dallas to the point where there are many teams that are willing to give McCarthy one last chance at a head coaching job, and that comes with a lot of positives.

Mike McCarthy’s positives

Mike McCarthy doesn’t really have the most flashy or exciting positives of all the head coaching candidates, but they’re very important for the next Titans coach. The first thing, and the thing that makes him a favorite for the job, is the stability he brings alongside the experience with two, let’s just say, different organizations. Love or hate the man, he has a lot of experience, and not in the Robert Saleh or Matt Nagy way, where they both had experience, but not good experience.

With McCarthy, he has multiple winning seasons and has been as consistent as they come. When he was in Green Bay, even if they had some down years, the team was usually pretty competitive as a whole, and he would get the most out of his offense every year. He went to the Cowboys, and similar things continued where (after an injury-riddled year one) he had three 12-win seasons in a row, and when Cooper Rush had to go in, the team stayed pretty competitive overall. Think about that, Mike McCarthy had a competitive season last year, with Cooper Rush starting half of the Cowboys’ games. That is something we’ve wanted since Mike Vrabel left, a coach who can keep our team consistently competitive.

Another big positive that comes from the McCarthy hire is his offensive mind. Again, like I’ve said in the past, even though I lean toward an offensive mind, I really don’t care who the coach is, and what background he has, as long as he’s a strong, culture-building coach, I’m good with it. McCarthy, though, is one of the people who makes me want an offensive mind a lot more than I probably should. In his years as a head coach in the NFL, his offenses were top 10 in the league 9 times in his 17 seasons. The point is, none of his offenses were truly terrible, and he was usually a competent play caller.

The last thing I’ll say actually isn’t about something he does when he’s with the team, but instead about something that happens with his teams once he is gone. Look, I know this isn’t the most amazing point for a head coach, but whenever you look at the teams he’s gone to, they end up having a similar pattern. McCarthy comes in, he does really well, stables the ship, consistently makes the playoffs, and after a couple of years, the organization finally decides that they need to maximize their ceiling, so this leads to McCarthys firing/retirement and then the organization has replaced him with a higher ceiling guy that was ten times better than he was (ie Matt LaFleur and Brian Schottenheimer).

The point is, hire McCarthy now, and maybe get a great offensive mind later, because now we know what to look for in a great head coach. Now, obviously, this isn’t an exact science or anything, I mean, the Cowboys kind of lucked into Schottenheimer in some ways, and the Packers are one of the better-run organizations in the NFL. Still, though, bringing in McCarthy could help the front office in the next head coaching cycle, and it could be a teaching experience in what to look for in a new, more youthful head coach of this team.

It’s a game of patience with McCarthy, you bring him in to stable the ship, then you’re more confident when seeing a graphic about the Titans hiring a Declan Doyle (28 year old Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator) or a Davis Webb (Denver Broncos Passing Game Coordinator), or heck, maybe even Grant Udinski is still available then (Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Coordinator), credit to Connor Orr for mentioning these guys at the end of his article on Titans head coaching candidates. Again, McCarthy might not be flashy, but he may very well be your safest chance for your organization to become relevant once more.

Negatives of Mike McCarthy

Now, even with McCarthy’s proposed stability and a hopeful future, he still has some red flags that need to be addressed. The first thing I’ll mention is probably the most obvious negative with McCarthy, and that’s Father Time itself. Look, there’s no secret that McCarthy is on the older side for a head coach. At 62 years old, it’s easy to think that Mike McCarthy might not be around too much longer, and that doesn’t give him too much time to truly build a culture with the Titans.

Personally, it would shock me if he made it past six seasons with the Titans if he were to land the job. This age can also lead to some feelings of laziness when it comes to the dedication he has to the job. His age and the way that he acts make me curious if he even has the fire needed to get this organization back on track. Even then, though, when I see a guy like Jon Gruden (who I will not cover unless he is hired or even interviewed), I know that if he were to get the job, he is, at the very least, gonna bring some fire to this team that desperately needs it. I worry about that with the McCarthy route because he doesn’t come off as a motivated guy, and no, I’m not trying to confirm the thoughts of a radio host who says no one is interested in McCarthy because he’s overweight, I think Andy Reid comes off as completely motivated and he seems like he has a fire, and I just don’t feel that way about McCarthy.

The next thing that I think is worth mentioning is his clock management skills. This is something that has consistently popped up in McCarthy’s career and is something we know we’re gonna get if he ends up being the guy the Titans choose. Not too many specific examples come to mind, but there is one very specific example that still haunts Dallas Cowboys fans to this day, that being against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 playoffs, where the Cowboys looked like they were driving their way into a great comeback and then McCarthy and Co. call a QB draw at the end of the game, don’t get the snap off, and their season was over just like that. That’s the type of stuff that bad coaches do with clock management, and it makes me worried that he’s gonna do that stuff with us and not have the talent to back it up. Now, he could have very easily learned from his clock management mistakes of the past, but chances are, if he’s getting a third chance, he probably hasn’t learned from that mistake.

The last thing I’ll mention is the discipline that his teams have had. When he was with the Cowboys, his teams ranked 11th, 1st, 9th, 3rd, and 4th in most penalties during the season. His teams consistently ranked at the top in the absolute worst way when it came to penalties. I mean, the best they ranked in his tenure was 11th, for context, in the best of the Vrabel years, his teams never ranked that high. I try not to talk about that era too much anymore, but it’s something worth mentioning. The worry is, usually, teams that are disciplined usually give the sign of a good head coach, and McCarthy just never had a disciplined team in his last few years as a head coach. Even with McCarthy’s positives, we still know what we’re getting, and some of the negatives will start to annoy us over time. It’s happened with him everywhere else.

How likely is McCarthy to get hired?

You know this is a little weird right now. When I first started writing this, I was gonna very confidently gonna put down that McCarthy was the easy favorite for this head coaching job. Now, though, I have no idea what to think. I know Connor Orr said that McCarthy was seen as the frontrunner in building for the job, but then Schefter went on 104.5 The Zone, and he said almost everybody that has been connected to the job, except McCarthy.

Do I still think that McCarthy is the favorite to land this job? Yes, but I’m not as confident as I was before writing this. Now, that goes from me being confident enough to tell someone to bet on it, to being still confident, but not enough to put money on it. How would I feel about the Titans making this hire? Well, I would really like it. The Titans have already been bad enough to the point where I would love to get a dude who’s made the playoffs and be ok with not having as much success, especially if it does lead to the Titans getting a great offensive mind along the lines of Webb, Doyle, Udinski, Scheelhaase (LA Rams passing game coordinator), or some other offensive mind we don’t even know about yet. That would set up our future very well, and it would do absolute wonders for the future of the team.

On Cam Ward and the next head coach

gettyimages-2195321057.jpg

There was some buzz this week after Cam Ward was asked if he wanted to be involved in selecting the next head coach for the Tennessee Titans. Here was his response:

Cam Ward wants to meet all the #Titans coaching candidates and he’s spoken with Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker about it. pic.twitter.com/t3SB57RLyl

— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) December 17, 2025

I didn’t have a problem with his answer at all. There was nowhere in there where he said he wanted to pick the next head coach. All he said was that he wants to meet everyone they bring in and have a conversation with them. That sounds perfectly reasonable.

If I were Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi, I would have each candidate sit down with Ward and let them interview each other. Watch how they interact with each other. Of course, how the new coach and Ward get along is not the only thing that matters, but it is probably the most important aspect.

The quickest way for this team to be relevant again is for them to nail this head coaching hire. The right guy can come in here, maximize what they have in Ward, and build the right culture. If that happens, the turnaround can happen pretty quickly:

The Patriots were 4-13 last season.
Mike Vrabel is 11-3.

The Jaguars were 4-13 last season.
Liam Coen is 10-4.

The Bears were 5-12 last season.
Ben Johnson is 10-4.

The most important position in the NFL?
Head Coach.

What level of faith do you have in Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi to get it right?

Cedric Gray out for Titans vs. Chiefs

gettyimages-2239794064.jpg

Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray will miss Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a concussion. Gray did get back on the practice field in a limited capacity today, so it does seem like he is progressing through the protocol. That should give him a chance to be back for next week’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Femi Oladejo returned to practice this week, but he will also be out against the Chiefs. Hopefully, he will also be back next week. Oladejo has a ton of potential, but is still very raw. He needs all of the reps he can get before next year.

Bryce Oliver is the only other player who was ruled out.

The Titans have five players listed as questionable, including Arden Key, who just popped up on the injury report today with an illness. I guess he didn’t adjust his immune system defense.

For the Chiefs, Rashee Rice will miss Sunday due to a concussion.

Here is the full injury report for both teams:

How the Titans will line up in the defensive backfield following 3 injuries

gettyimages-2238355771.jpg

The Tennessee Titans suffered a trio of injuries in the defensive backfield against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15. Safeties Mike Brown, Kevin Winston Jr. and Xavier Woods all suffered injuries that forced them exit early. All three have since been placed on season-ending IR.

The Titans signed Erick Hallett from the Detroit Lions practice squad and Sanoussi Kane from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad to replace them. If Dennard Wilson can help it, Hallett and Sanoussi won’t play defensive snaps versus the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16. With that in mind, we’ve analyzed how the Titans can line up following all this shifting.

The @Titans have signed safeties Erick Hallett and Sanoussi Kane off practice squads of the @Lions and @Ravens, respectively.

Safeties Kevin Winston Jr., Xavier Woods and Mike Brown have all been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Outside CB: Darrell Baker Jr.

Darrell Baker Jr. will continue serving as the Titans’ No. 1 cornerback. That’s been the case since Jalyn Armour-Davis suffered an Achilles injury. There’s no indication that Armour-Davis is ready to return, even though he hasn’t been placed on IR. Baker Jr. will definitely continue starting outside.

Outside CB: Kaiir Elam

Cornerback Kaiir Elam stepped into the lineup opposite Baker Jr. following the injury to Woods. Elam, a 2022 first-round bust of the Buffalo Bills, played 24 snaps outside. He figures to earn the start outside unless Armour-Davis returns.

Nickel: Marcus Harris

Rookie Marcus Harris had initially been playing nickel when he entered the lineup following the Roger McCreary trade. The Titans then shifted him to outside due to injuries, with Winston Jr. playing the nickel. Well, Harris figures to be a permanent fixture inside again given that the Titans have healthier options at boundary corner.

Safety: Amani Hooker

The Titans’ best defensive backfield player is Amani Hooker. He’s been a long-term fixture at safety, though he momentarily took over the nickel position last weekend following the injury to Winston. Hooker quickly moved back to safety after Woods left injured, and he figures to stay at his most familiar position versus the Chiefs.

Safety: Kendell Brooks

Kendell Brooks played a hefty 56 snaps at safety against the 49ers. With three injuries at safety, and Kane/Hallett being new additions, Brooks figures to stay at safety opposite Hooker. He’s been an on-again, off-again member of the practice squad since 2024.

Titans coaching search: Matt Nagy viewed internally as serious candidate

gettyimages-2220758628.jpg

Dianna Russini of The Athletic did some reporting on the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching search this morning. Off the top, she said that Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is a serious candidate to be the next head coach of the Titans. Nagy has ties to Titans’ GM Mike Borgonzi from their days together with the Chiefs.

Nagy is not my first choice, but it makes sense that he would be on their list. They are probably going to want someone who is an offensive mind and has been a head coach before. Nagy checks both of those boxes. He was the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. He went 34-31 in his tenure with the Bears and made the playoffs twice.

Russini listed several defensive coordinators that the Titans are expected to reach out to:

  • Indianapolis Colts’ Lou Anarumo
  • Green Bay Packers’ Jeff Hafley
  • Jacksonville Jaguars’ Anthony Campanile
  • Los Angeles Rams’ Chris Shula
  • Houston Texans’ Matt Burke
  • Los Angeles Chargers’ Jesse Minter

While I’d prefer they hire an offensive guy, I’m not opposed to the right defensive guy as long as he has a good answer for who his offensive coordinator is going to be.

It is interesting that Robert Saleh isn’t on that list. He’s been near the top of my list, but that was with the hopes that he could bring Mike McDaniel in to be his offensive coordinator. However, at this point, it is starting to sound like McDaniel might not get fired by the Miami Dolphins.

We are just three weeks away from the Titans actually being able to kick off their head coaching interviews.

Titans vs. Chiefs discussion: React to today’s game live

gettyimages-903088706.jpg

The Tennessee Titans will look to get their third win of the season today against Gardner Minshew and the Kansas City Chiefs. This game has been chalked up as a loss since the schedule came out last spring. Of course, that was before we knew that Patrick Mahomes would be out, and the Chiefs would already be eliminated from the playoffs.

Once again, we are faced with cheering for success on the field vs. that success hurting the Titans in the 2026 NFL Draft order. It would be nice if the Titans could win, and all of the teams around them would also win. For the games you need to be keeping an eye on here when it comes to draft order, you can check out this week’s rooting guide that I posted earlier this morning.

There was a report yesterday that Matt Nagy is a pretty serious candidate for the Titans’ vacant head coaching job. Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi are not allowed to actually talk to Nagy about the job today, but Borgonzi will probably look for an opportunity to have a conversation with the current Chiefs’ offensive coordinator while he is in town.

Use this thread to discuss the game.

5 observations from the Titans’ Week 16 win over the Chiefs

gettyimages-2251919535.jpg

The Tennessee Titans defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 26-9 in Week 16. The Titans dominated on both offense and defense as the Chiefs were down to their third quarterback. It was the Nashville-based club’s first win in Nashville in over 410 days.

We’ve identified five observations from the Titans’ Week 16 victory.

Cam Ward

Cam Ward was efficient and accurate, especially during the Titans’ opening possession of the second half. The nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive featured 69 passing yards. Ward hit Elic Ayomanor for a 25-yard gain on a 3rd-and-4 that highlighted gorgeous over-the-shoulder ball placement. He then found Chimere Dike for some 30-yard off-script magic. The drive ended with a TD to Dike.

Ward finished 21-of-28 for 228 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Jeffery Simmons is dominant

Jeffery Simmons was unblockable as per usual. In the second quarter, Simmons tackled a Chiefs ball-carrier in the end zone for a safety. The Chiefs’ interior offensive lineman were seen yelling on the sideline. They struggled to protect the quarterback from No. 98 all contest long.

Rookie playmakers

Both Dike and Ayomanor made several plays for Ward on Sunday. Dike recorded three receptions for 40 receiving yards and a TD. Ayomanor had three catches for a team-high 58 receiving yards. Ward and his first-year playmakers are showcasing some chemistry.

Gunnar Helm tap toe

Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy finally made an aggressive decision during the first half. Faced with a 4th-and-1 following a no-gain run by Kalel Mullings, the Titans decided to go for it. Cam Ward found fellow rookie Gunnar Helm near the sideline. Helm appeared to have made an excellent toe-tapping catch near the sideline, but on review, his toe touched out of bounds. Missed opportunity.

Tyjae Spears

It’s a shame Tyjae Spears struggles to stay healthy. The former Tulane standout was incredibly explosive throughout the first half, producing 66 yards as a dual-threat rusher and pass catcher. Spears was Ward’s most dynamic playmaker versus the Chiefs, and he added a touchdown in the second half.

NFL Draft order: Titans fall to sixth with win

gettyimages-2250441800.jpg

The Tennessee Titans fell to sixth in the 2026 NFL Draft order with their 26-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday. They were fourth heading into the day. The good news is that the New Orleans Saints and the Cincinnati Bengals also won yesterday. That puts both of those teams at five wins.

Right now, just the Titans and the Arizona Cardinals have three wins. The Cardinals are one spot ahead of the Titans right now. Tennessee and Arizona both have a strength of schedule faced of .575. The Cardinals move ahead of the Titans because of the Titans’ win over the Cardinals.

The Washington Commanders currently have four wins and hold the seventh spot. The New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals are at five wins and hold draft spots eight and nine, respectively. After that, the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons*, Kansas City Chiefs, and Dallas Cowboys all have six wins. That means even if the Titans win out, the lowest they could pick is ninth.

It seems crazy to think that the Titans will win out, but they face the 5-10 Saints at home this week, and then go to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in week 18. There is a chance the Jaguars won’t be playing for anything in that game, depending on how next week shakes out.

Here is how the top 18 in the 2026 NFL Draft order:

  1. New York Giants (2-13)
  2. Las Vegas Raiders (2-13)
  3. Cleveland Browns (3-12)
  4. New York Jets (3-12)
  5. Arizona Cardinals (3-12)
  6. Tennessee Titans (3-12)
  7. Washington Commanders (4-11)
  8. New Orleans (5-10)
  9. Cincinnati Bengals (5-10)
  10. Miami Dolphins (6-9)
  11. Los Angeles Rams (via Atlanta Falcons 6-9)
  12. Kansas City Chiefs (6-9)
  13. Dallas Cowboys (6-8-1)
  14. Baltimore Ravens (7-8)
  15. Minnesota Vikings (7-8)
  16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-8)
  17. Detroit Lions (8-7)
  18. New York Jets (via Indianapolis Colts 8-6)

*The Los Angeles Rams hold the Falcons’ first round pick.

Titans vs. Saints opening odds: Tennessee opens as a home underdog again

gettyimages-2252434410.jpg

For the 16th straight week this year, the Tennessee Titans are an underdog. This time, they are a three-point underdog against the New Orleans Saints at home on FanDuel Sportsbook. I thought there was a chance they might be favored in this one, but that was before I realized the Saints have won three straight games. That, technically, makes them one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

The Titans have played pretty good football themselves the last three weeks. They have won two out of three. It was the defense that let them down in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The offense looks to have found its footing late in the season. If that can continue this week at Nissan Stadium, they will have a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since the infamous plane ride back from Green Bay in November of 2022.

I’m probably overconfident coming off a big win over a deflated Kansas City Chiefs team, but I’d think the Titans find a way to win this game. How confident are you that they can make it two in a row?

NFL Pro Bowl rosters: Titans send two players

gettyimages-2251422705.jpg

The Tennessee Titans have two representatives in the 2026 NFL Pro Bowl games. Jeffery Simmons and Chimere Dike will be representing the Titans. Simmons has arguably been the second-best defensive player in the NFL this season behind Myles Garrett. He has 9 sacks on the season. That’s a crazy number from an interior defensive lineman.

Simmons has also really stepped up as a leader this season. In the past, it seemed like the Titans really wanted to sell us on the fact that Simmons was a leader. This year, in a season that has been a disaster, he has been a consistent performer on and off the field.

Dike leads the NFL in all-purpose yards with 2,269 and has two punt return touchdowns. The Titans really found a gem with him in the fourth round of last year’s draft.

The 2026 NFL Pro Bowl games will take place on February 3rd in San Francisco. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Central. The flag football game starts at 7 p.m. Central.

Cam Ward growth means more to Titans than draft positioning

gettyimages-2251922045.jpg

The Tennessee Titans dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16, beating the Patrick Mahomes-less team 26-9. The Titans outgained the Chiefs 376-133 on offense. The highlight of the afternoon was the performance by rookie quarterback Cam Ward.

Ward arguably played the best game of his rookie season. The No. 1 overall selection completed 21-of-28 passing attempts for 228 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Ward set season-high marks in completion percentage (75%) and yards per attempt (8.1).

Ward’s quarterback rating of 122.3 was also a career high. You’ll hear a lot about how the Titans “dropped” to sixth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft real-time order. The growth and development Ward displayed on Sunday means more to the Titans than draft positioning.

I see so much of Aaron Rodgers in Cam Ward’s game.

It marked the third consecutive game Ward threw for multiple touchdowns. Prior to Week 14, the former Miami Hurricanes standout hadn’t had a single multi-TD passing game. Since the bye week, Ward has eight touchdowns and one interception.

Ward’s completion percentage on the season is now above 60 percent (60.2%). He’s almost a 2:1 TD:INT ratio with 13 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. Ward’s on-field growth has been extremely evident and awesome to see.

Sure, it would’ve been nice for the Titans to possess the No. 1 overall pick, creating a trade-down scenario that could accelerate the rebuild. But what’s even better for the Titans is watching Ward’s real-time growth into a bonafide franchise quarterback. Mike Borgonzi doesn’t mind not having the top selection because Ward is playing the team out of the basement.

The 2026 NFL Draft has good prospects. The EDGE group has Rueben Bain Jr., Keldrick Faulk, Arvell Reese, and David Bailey. Wide receivers include Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, and Makai Lemon. Those positions happen to be the Titans’ biggest two needs. Quarterbacks will go early, which is good news for the Titans.

The Titans will probably end up picking somewhere between Nos. 4 and 10 overall. They’ll possess an opportunity to draft a good player. Ward’s growth means more.

Titans coaching search: Tennessee has done research on Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman

gettyimages-2247047313.jpg

We have spent a lot of time here talking about names for the next coach of the Tennessee Titans since Brian Callahan was fired in October. One name that I had not seen connected with the Titans until today was Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame. That changed today.

Jeremy Fowler mentioned today that the Titans have done their research on Freeman. The main part of his note has to do with the interest the New York Giants have in the current Notre Dame coach. Freeman was on a couple of NFL practice squads back in 2009, but has never coached at that level.

When it comes to a “leader of men,” few are better than Freeman. Go back and watch the reaction of the Notre Dame players when Freeman was named the head coach after Brian Kelly left for LSU. They were pumped.

Freeman came up as a defensive coach, so, as with any defensive coach the Titans talk to in their search, the main question for him will be who he can bring in as an offensive coordinator.

My hope is that the Titans cast a wide net when it comes to their next coach. It is absolutely worth bringing Freeman in to see if they think he has what it takes to lead the Titans into the next phase of the franchise.

Tony Pollard is giving the Titans something to think about this offseason

gettyimages-2249587866.jpg

A few weeks ago, it felt like a foregone conclusion that the Tennessee Titans would release veteran running back Tony Pollard from his contract this coming offseason. The Titans were fielding one of the worst rushing attacks in the league and Pollard looked past his prime. Well, the narrative has completely flipped in recent weeks and Mike Borgonzi’s decision at running back no longer looks straightforward.

Pollard experienced a breakout game versus the Cleveland Browns in Week 14. The former Memphis standout rushed for a career-high 161 yards and two touchdowns. Pollard was good against the San Francisco 49ers again in Week 15, and this past weekend, rushed for 102 yards in the blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs. A phantom penalty wiped out his TD.

Pollard has rushed for 100-plus yards in three straight appearances. The experienced ball-carrier is averaging 6.1 yards per carry over that stretch and has scored four touchdowns. Pollard and the Titans’ run game has been critical to the team’s late-season offensive resurgence.

Pollard is slated to enter the final year of his contract next season. Releasing him would create $7.2 million in additional cap space for Borgonzi. The dead-cap hit is minimal ($2 million).

It’s worth acknowledging Pollard doesn’t deserve all the credit for his late-season breakout. The Titans’ offensive line has been in outstanding form lately. The starting five unit entered the season with lofty expectations based on the capital Borgonzi had invested in the position group. They started out disappointing, but have really found their form, even when Corey Levin and Oli Udoh had to play.

Hopefully the Titans’ offensive line carries this momentum over 2026. Very few changes are expected to that unit with right guard Kevin Zeitler as the lone pending free agent. Borgonzi will have to decide if Pollard’s resurgence is worth buying into and retaining. Otherwise, the Titans could consider adding a younger, more dynamic back.

Titans-Chiefs final score: Tennessee wins 26-9

gettyimages-2253033543.jpg

Forget draft position. Watching the Tennessee Titans whoop up on the Kansas City Chiefs at Nissan Stadium was really fun. I don’t even care that the guy who played quarterback for the Chiefs most of the day had never thrown a pass in an NFL game before today.

Cam Ward is getting better each and every week. That is all this season was ever about anyway. He finished the day 21 of 28 for 228 yards and two touchdowns. I’m not saying that I am sold on Ward being a franchise quarterback, but it is definitely trending in the right direction.

Tyjae Spears had a really productive day, rushing for 52 yards with a touchdown and catching five passes for 53 yards. The Titans are going to have an interesting decision to make on Spears at the end of the year. He is going to be a free agent. Spears isn’t an every-down back, but he has a skillset that is valuable in the NFL.

The rookie receivers also played well today. Elic Ayomanor caught three passes for 58 yards. Chimere Dike caught three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Ayomanor and Dike aren’t number one receivers, but they give the Titans depth at the position they haven’t had in a really long time.

We will check in on where the win leaves the Titans in terms of 2026 NFL Draft order later tonight. Some teams that they needed to win in the early window are in a good position as of this writing.
