Tennesee Titans week 16 rooting guide

gettyimages-2248259901.jpg

I’ve got a feeling the Tennessee Titans are going to beat the Kansas City Chiefs today. It just seems like a bad spot for the Chiefs after losing Patrick Mahomes and getting eliminated from playoff contention last week. The Titans have been dealing with the reality that they won’t be in the playoffs since September. That’s a different mentality than getting eliminated in mid-December with games left to play.

If the Titans do win, it makes it all the more important that the teams around them win so the Titans don’t fall too far in the 2026 NFL Draft order.

Here is your rooting guide around the NFL today:

Buffalo Bills (10-4) @ Cleveland Browns (3-11)

The Browns currently hold the fourth spot in the 2026 NFL Draft, one spot behind the Titans. A Cleveland win here would be huge to get a game of separation there.

Cincinnati Bengals (4-10) @ Miami Dolphins (6-8)

You should be rooting for a Bengals win here for two reasons; One is that the Bengals only have 4 wins. The Titans have a couple of winnable games in their last three. The second is that the dream of Robert Saleh as head coach and Mike McDaniel as the offensive coordinator gets a little closer every time the Dolphins lose.

New York Jets (3-11) @ New Orleans Saints (4-10)

The Saints were the only team the Titans needed to win last week that actually won. This week we need them to go back to their losing ways to help the Jets get to four wins. New York currently holds the fifth pick in the draft.

Minnesota Vikins (6-8) @ New York Giants (2-12)

The Giants currently hold the first pick in the draft. This is a winnable game for them at home. It would be a great week for Jaxson Dart to have a great week.

Atlanta Falcons (5-9) @ Arizona Cardinals (3-11)

Both of these teams stink. The Titans likely aren’t getting to five wins, so the Falcons are irrelevant to them. The Cardinals are currently sixth in the 2026 NFL Draft. Hopefully, they can pull this one out to move down a little further.

Las Vegas Raiders (2-11) @ Houston Texans (9-5)

I’m glad the Titans played the Raiders when they did. They are probably the worst team in the league right now. Their offense is terrible and the Texans defense is really good. If the Texans get a field goal the game is probably over, but it sure would be nice for the Raiders to get a win.

A Titans Head Coaching Profile: Matt Nagy

gettyimages-2188311790.jpg

Matt Nagy, what can be said about this guy? He is by far the most polarizing candidate in this cycle, and he is probably more polarizing than anybody in the last two cycles as well. If you ever end up in the same room as two Titans fans, one pro-Nagy and the other anti-Nagy, good luck trying to get them to find a middle ground, because both sides are convinced, and they are not going to let up.

There’s no such thing as a person who is in the middle of hating and loving Matt Nagy; everyone either loves Nagy and thinks he’s the next head coach redemption story, or he’s never going to learn his lesson, and his tenure would kill Borgonzi’s tenure alongside Chad Brinker’s. For these reasons, he is probably one of the most interesting coaching candidates I’ll cover during this cycle.

Now, this leads to the question: how do I feel about Matt Nagy as a head coaching candidate? Well, I’m gonna tell you eventually, but for now, we need to get into the details of Nagy’s profile. So, without any further interruption, this is the head coaching profile of the current Chiefs offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy.

Matt Nagy’s Background

Before talking about his positives and negatives, it is necessary to look at the background of Nagy and how he got to this point. Before I go on, I need to clarify that this may be the weirdest path that I’ll cover in this series. Nagy’s coaching career started way back in the year 2001, when he was the quarterbacks coach at Manheim Central High School in Pennsylvania. He left this job after one year to take a spot in the same position, this time at Cedar Crest High School, also in Pennsylvania, and then he became an offensive coordinator at Palmyra High School from 2008-2009, and I think you can take a guess at where that school is.

Now, during these two years, Nagy was an intern for the Philadelphia Eagles during his time as coordinator for this high school, and, an interesting fact, on August 10, 2009, before the beginning of the preseason, backup QB Kevin Kolb got injured. The Eagles staff was a little spooked by this, and to make sure that Donovan McNabb and AJ Feely were protected, Andy Reid tried to get the NFL to let Nagy play in a preseason game since he wasn’t being paid as a coach, and, at first, the NFL actually allowed it and Nagy actually practiced for a day! The NFL eventually came to its senses and didn’t let Nagy play, but it’s still a very fun story.

Anyway, in 2o10, Matt Nagy decided to take a full-time job with the Eagles as a coaches’ assistant, and after a year in that position, he was promoted to offensive quality control coach, where he would stay for 2011 and 2012.

After that, he joined Andy Reid’s Kansas City staff in 2013 as a QBs coach from 2013-2015, and after Doug Pederson was hired away by the Eagles, Nagy was promoted to Offensive Coordinator from 2016-2017. He was pretty impressive here and had Alex Smith, statistically, playing the best ball of his career, and this led to an even bigger opportunity for Nagy in 2018.

In 2018, Matt Nagy was hired as the next head coach of the Chicago Bears and stayed there until 2021. Like McCarthy, I’ll save my thoughts on his tenure for the positives and negatives. After he was fired by the Bears, he was brought back to the Chiefs, where he served as a senior assistant and a QB coach for the 2022 season, and after Eric Bieniemy left, Nagy was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023 and has been in that position since. Now, we can get into the positives and negatives of Nagy.

Matt Nagy’s Positives

So, the first and most obvious positive of Matt Nagy is the fact that he has head coaching experience. While nowhere near the experience that McCarthy had, Nagy still has four years of coaching experience, and he even has a coach of the year under his belt, alongside a 12-4 season that was completely ruined by Cody Parkiey’s double doink. This is something that I feel like has slowly faded away from the perspective of the front office in their next head coach.

There’s a feeling inside the building for the Titans that the culture is slowly shifting into something that is functioning and can stand bringing in a young head coach who is trying to figure out how to establish his culture. Now, this does not mean I don’t think it’s likely that they still end up going with an experienced coach, though; it just means it’s seeming more like the Titans could go with a young mind each day.

Now, that’s not meant to be a knock on Nagy; he had some solid moments as a head coach and was especially great his first time around as OC for the Chiefs in 2016. It’s just not as strong a point as it used to be. The second positive that needs to be addressed is how good a fit Nagy’s playcalling philosophy is, and how it is such a great fit for Cam Ward. Look, whatever you want to think about Nagy’s play design and play calling is a different thing, but there should not be a denial that he fits so well with Cam in play calling.

Question, what is the one thing that Titans fans have been begging for all year in our head coach? Well, that’s easy, we’ve been begging for more RPO action out of Brian Callahan and Mike McCoy all year, and that’s something that Nagy specializes in. His playbook is full of RPOs, and as we saw in the game on Sunday (as bad as it was), Nagy really likes his RPO game.

Now, does this mean his play-calling is automatically elite? Not really, but it still is something that could be very helpful in the future for Cam’s development. The last positive I want to mention is something that has evolved over time, and that’s how gracefully the Bears era has aged since he was fired. Look, as weird as he was during his head coaching days, Nagy was still most definitely not the biggest problem that haunted the Bears during this time; that was QB play. Mitch Trubisky was his QB the majority of the time Nagy was in Chicago, and if we’re being real, he was never going to be a good QB, no matter where he ended up. I’ll stand by this take when I say that he would’ve gotten Kyle Shanahan fired if he had gone to the 49ers.

Nagy did not have a losing season with Trubisky at QB, and his only losing season was with a mix of washed Andy Dalton and a rookie Justin Fields. That team was never going to be an offensive juggernaut, yet the offense was still average to below average with Nagy, which, with Trubisky, is an absolute miracle. Again, even with Nagy’s downsides, he still has some very strong positives that make him a very viable candidate.

Matt Nagy’s Negatives

Now, even with the positives of Matt Nagy, the negatives are still extremely concerning, and it’s the reason some people hate Nagy so much. The first negative I’ll talk about is how questionable Nagy’s leadership was with the Chicago Bears. Remember how terribly Trubisky was treated by Nagy during his time with the Bears? This doesn’t mean that Trubisky’s career was ruined by Nagy or anything, but Nagy definitely didn’t seem like he was helping matters in any way with Trubisky.

Also, he shares with Callahan a huge problem that can help any coach lose trust very quickly, and that’s accountability. There was never a time that I could remember where Nagy looked at the media in Chicago and said, “Guys, I’ve got to do better.” He was never someone who was a true leader, and honestly, it does seem like the true leader in that Chicago locker room that season was Vic Fangio.

By the end of his time in Chicago, Matt Nagy had completely lost the locker room, and the only person I could find who expressed genuine sadness was David Montgomery. Don’t forget about how he started the pandemic season 5-1 and then went on to lose seven of his last ten games that season. That speaks to his ability to keep the locker room humble the entire season.

The next negative I’d like to address is the stubbornness that Nagy has. This is where we get into the disaster class that was the 2021 season for Nagy and how terribly he managed his QB room. Look, Justin Fields ended up being a bad QB, there’s no doubt, but unlike Trubisky, I think Fields could have been fine. I mean, when he was given the right coaching with Arthur Smith, he didn’t look elite, but he looked serviceable, but he was terribly managed in his rookie year. Nagy had this weird knack for not using Fields’ mobility and making him become a pocket passer like Ben or Alex Smith. This obviously was a complete disaster and led to Nagy being fired.

I remember when Nagy had to miss a game back in 2021 due to him catching Covid, which led to Bill Lazor taking over play calling, and he actually used Fields the way he was meant to be used, moving all over the place with play action and read options, and even though they lost, Fields played pretty well.

So, in this situation, if it were me, I’d give the guy some credit for actually doing some good things. What did Nagy do? He dodged the question and, in a weird way, he tried to give himself credit for hiring him, genuinely the weirdest thing I’ve seen.

The last thing I’ll talk about is his refusal to adjust. This isn’t about his players, though, as I already addressed that; this is about his in-game adjustments. He would be consistently stubborn and stick to it, whether they were up or down, sound familiar? We even saw this during Sunday’s game, where he was just the worst about this. He had two, very opposite QBs on his roster in Gardner Minshew (pocket QB) and Chris Oladokun (mobile and accuracy is questionable), so, instead of adjusting to Oladokun’s mobility, he used him like he was Minshew. Again, his adjustment game has just proven to be incompetent. Overall, the negatives of Nagy are concerning, and they’re the reason that people hate him as a head coach so much.

How likely is Nagy to get hired?

So, I want all the people reading this to guess how I feel about Matt Nagy. I really did try to be fair to both sides with this, but I think it’s obvious how I feel. Overall, Matt Nagy is my least favorite head coaching candidate, and yes, this includes guys like Jon Gruden and Lou Anarumo, whom I have very adamantly spoken out against in this coaching search.

Look, I don’t disrespect anyone who will tell me that they feel a certain way about Nagy, because there are people who want Nagy in the community that I seriously respect; he’s just not for me. Now, how likely do I think the Tennessee Titans are to actually hire Nagy? Well, I have zero clue how to feel about the likelihood of this. A lot of insiders like Dianna Russini, Connor Orr, and even Schefter said something about Nagy, but here’s my question, is this really a list these insiders have actually heard from in the building, or was Easton Freeze right when he said that no one really knows who the next head coach is going to be yet, and that these are just lazy connections?

I tend to lean toward Easton on this and think that even though he will definitely interview for the job and might even get to the final, I don’t think Nagy will be the next head coach, and I know sources have said Amy is trying to take a backseat during this, but I would be very shocked if she heard that Borgonzi and Brinker landed on Nagy and Amy just let it slide.

Andy Reid endorses alleged Titans HC candidate Matt Nagy

gettyimages-2220758707.jpg

Dianna Russini of The Athletic recently provided a reported update on the Tennessee Titans‘ head coaching search. Russini mentioned seven names that may appear on the Titans’ candidates wishlist. The most notable portion of the article states that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is viewed as a serious candidate internally.

Nagy has been frequently connected to the Titans since Brian Callahan’s firing. The reason why is extremely obvious. Nagy and current Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi spent eight campaigns spread across two separate stints with the Chiefs together. If Borgonzi is spearheading the coaching search, it would be understandable if his top candidate is familiar to him.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was recently asked about Nagy’s potential candidacy this offseason. Unsurprisingly, Reid strongly endorsed Nagy. “Phenomenal,” Coach Reid responded when asked about the job Nagy has done this season. “We were on a record pace there for a bit, as far as statistically… I think he deserves to be a head football coach in this league.”

The Titans defeated the Chiefs 26-9 in Week 16. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was lost to a season-ending torn ACL injury. The 6-9 Chiefs will miss the postseason for the first time since 2014. Placing that blame at Nagy’s feet seems unfair. Nagy never received credit when the Chiefs’ offense was firing on all cylinders. This team belongs to Reid and Mahomes.

Luckily for the Titans, they have an example to draw from. Nagy spent four seasons (2018-21) as the Chicago Bears’ head coach. They went 12-4 in his debut season and Nagy won Coach of the Year. He maximized a bad sophomore quarterback Mitchell Trubisky that season. The Bears never replicated that success under his watch again, and regressed until they fired him.

Borgonzi knows Nagy well. We’ll see if that actually makes Nagy a candidate in Tennessee.

5 observations from Titans’ Week 17 loss to Saints

gettyimages-2253829667.jpg

The Tennessee Titans were defeated 34-26 by the New Orleans Saints in a tight-knit Week 17 contest. It was a back and forth affair that highlighted two rookie quarterbacks. It represented the final contest of the 2025 campaign at Nissan Stadium. We’ve conjured up five observations from Sunday’s action.

Another strong day for Cam Ward

Cam Ward finished 21-of-39 for 251 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It was another strong performance by the rookie quarterback. He had confirmed his fourth straight multi-TD passing game before halftime. Ward had a few misses and negative plays, such as a Chase Young strip-sack TD, but he was mostly sharp. On the topic of deep passing accuracy, he completed a 38-yarder to Chimere Dike, a 27-yarder to Van Jefferson, and drew a critical DPI penalty on a deep 3rd-and-15 bomb to Dike. Off-script magic was routinely on display.

Saints special teams… not so special

The Saints committed several special teams miscues throughout the first half. Punter Kai Kroeger shanked one for just 17 yards to his own 35-yard line. The Titans only gained three yards on the ensuing possession, but managed a field goal thanks to positive field position. Saints kicker Charlie Smyth then missed a makeable 43-yard kick. Ward and the offense overtook possession and Joey Slye converted again on the miscue.

Titans offensive line keeps rolling

The offensive line has significantly improved since Bill Callahan’s departure. Ward was sacked three times on Sunday, including the aforementioned Young strip-sack TD. One was a scramble sack. On several occasions, Ward had 3+ seconds to scan the field in a clean pocket. The Titans’ run game was a little inconsistent, but Tony Pollard still managed 85 rushing yards, surpassing 1,000 on the season.

A little bit of luck goes a long way

With the Titans leading 26-20 with about 11 minutes remaining, Saints QB Tyler Shough hit Dante Pettis on a WR screen. Pettis made several defenders miss en route to a would-be touchdown. Nickel defender Kemon Hall forced a fumble at the goal line and Kaiir Elam recovered in the end zone, leading to a Titans touchback.

Titans updated NFL Draft order 2026: Current 1st-round pick before Week 18

imagn-27702302.jpg

The Tennessee Titans moved back to fourth in the 2026 NFL Draft order with their loss to the New Orleans Saints yesterday. I said before the game yesterday that at this point seeing Cam Ward develop is more important that draft position since the number one overall pick was already out of reach. The Titans will be able to get a blue chip player picking inside the top eight.

Now, the Titans cannot pick any lower than seven. There is still a chance they could get the second overall pick with a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the other three-win teams all winning in week 18, but I will never cheer for a loss to the Jags.

One interesting note, the Titans no longer have the toughest strength of schedule faced in the league. The Cardinals moved ahead of them by .001 yesterday. The Titans moved back ahead of the Cardinals based on tie breakers now that four teams are tied at three wins.

Updated 2026 NFL Draft order

  1. Las Vegas Raiders 2-14
  2. New York Giants 3-13
  3. New York Jets 3-13
  4. Tennessee Titans 3-13
  5. Arizona Cardinals 3-13
  6. Cleveland Browns 4-12
  7. Washington Commanders 4-12
  8. New Orleans Saints 6-10
  9. Kansas City Chiefs 6-10
  10. Cincinnati Bengals 6-10
  11. Los Angeles Rams (via Atlanta Falcons 6-9*)
  12. Miami Dolphins 6-10
  13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-9
  14. Dallas Cowboys 7-8-1
  15. Detroit Lions 8-8
  16. Baltimore Ravens 8-8
  17. Minnesota Vikings 8-8
  18. New York Jets (via Indianapolis Colts 8-8)

Titans vs. Saints open game thread

gettyimages-2253032104.jpg

The Tennessee Titans take on the New Orleans Saints in their home finale today. I don’t care about draft position at this point. The Titans cannot get the first overall pick, but they will have a top ten pick even if they win out. That should get them a number one wide receiver. That’s all that matters. Go win some games.

It would be great to see Cam Ward continue to build on his performance last week. His development is more important than anything else these last two games. He’s also the most important piece in attracting the next head coach.

The Saints come in as one of the hottest team in the league, having won three straight. Their rookie quarterback, Tyler Shough, has been playing well. Can the Titans defense get pressure on him?The Titans have actually been better in that aspect the last few weeks.

Use this thread to discuss the game.

Titans should re-sign TE Chig Okonkwo

gettyimages-2253837194.jpg

The Tennessee Titans did some good things offensively in Sunday’s 34-26 Week 17 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward had his fourth straight multi-TD passing game. Ward’s first score went to tight end Chig Okonkwo on quite the individual effort.

Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy got aggressive. Faced with a 4th-and-2 in no man’s land, McCoy quickly kept the Titans offense on the field. Ward had a play-action fake with Okonkwo leaking off the line of scrimmage in a block-and-release concept. Okonkwo came free across the defense for an easy chain-moving catch. The former Maryland standout rumbled down the field in open space, threw a defender off his back and crossed the goal-line for an incredible touchdown.

Chig Okonkwo cannot be stopped!

NOvsTEN on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/vrs4HBP8yx

— NFL (@NFL) December 28, 2025

It was Okonkwo’s second straight showing with a passing TD from Ward. Okonkwo now leads the Titans in receptions (54) and receiving yards (558). The 2022 fourth-round selection has already set career highs in both categories.

Okonkwo is on an expiring contract. GM Mike Borgonzi inherited him from two regimes ago as it was Jon Robinson who drafted the athletic tight end. Meanwhile Borgonzi drafted tight end Gunnar Helm in the fourth round this past offseason. Helm has shown flashes of being a starting-caliber player.

Nonetheless, the Titans should strongly consider re-signing Okonkwo. His shortcomings as a blocker are offset by his athletic ability as a pass catcher. Ward and Okonkwo have begun showing real chemistry. Wards trusts him to make plays.

Okonkwo and Helm should manage to coexist on offense together. The next head coach could appreciate them as a pairing. The Titans are scheduled to possess a league-leading amount of cap space this coming offseason. Okonkwo figures to command a multi-year contract that pays him between $10-12 million annually. The Titans should strongly consider bringing him back in 2026.

Titans could end up in a tricky 2026 NFL Draft spot

gettyimages-2246300997.jpg

The Tennessee Titans moved back up to No. 4 overall in the real-time 2026 NFL draft order following Sunday’s 34-26 Week 17 defeat to the New Orleans Saints. The Titans “owned” the top overall selection approximately a month ago, but have gone 2-2 in December. At No. 4 overall, GM Mike Borgonzi could eventually find himself in a tricky spot.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can win the AFC South division title with a Week 18 victory over the Titans. The Jags have rounded off seven consecutive victories and are heavy favorites over the Titans in the regular-season finale. Even if Tennessee loses, they are unlikely to capture a top-three selection unless the Jets, Giants, or Raiders shockingly win.

*Chris Berman voice* THE RRRAIDERShttps://t.co/AJoUOqeWzT pic.twitter.com/IHHYtMbvwY

— Tankathon.com (@tankathon) December 28, 2025

Week 18 is silly and unpredictable, but it’s reasonable to predict the Titans could finish with that fourth overall selection. If so, Borgonzi won’t have any straightforward decisions. Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore are expected to go 1-2 overall. If the Giants clinch the second pick, they’ll likely be willing to offload that selection to the highest bidding QB-needy team.

That means the best non-QB probably goes third overall. That could be Ohio State pass rusher Arvell Reese. Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs are probably the two best pure prospects in this draft, but they play non-premium positions. Assuming QBs go 1-2, two of Reese/Downs/Love would be guaranteed to be available to the Titans at No. 4.

What about Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr.? Arm length and positional questions may complicate his projection, but the powerful pass rusher was a top overall mock-draft Titans pick until recently. Bain will go through a curious pre-draft process.

The Titans’ need to support Cam Ward was never more evident than in Sunday’s loss to the Saints. Creating separation was a consistent issue for the wide receivers. Would No. 4 overall be too early for the Titans to draft Jordyn Tyson or Carnell Tate? Tyson has a lengthy injury history, and Tate is facing ceiling questions.

Borgonzi may prefer to trade down, but his chances of successfully doing so would be significantly hampered if the quarterbacks are already off the board (a likely scenario). The pre-draft conversation for the Titans will be a difficult and analytical one if they clinch the fourth overall selection.

Happy New Year! 2026 is a huge year for the Titans

imagn-27913991.jpg

Happy New Year, everyone. 2026 is going to be a big year for the Tennessee Titans. The first and arguably most important thing they have to do in the new year is a hire a head coach. We have been covering the head coaching search since Brian Callahan was fired in October. That will really ramp up next week when they are able to start the actual interview process for the job.

Hopefully, they will cast a wide net and bring in a bunch of guys to interview for the job. There have been a lot of names floated out there over the last few months. Hopefully, Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi go in with an open mind and find the best guy to lead this team into the next phase with Cam Ward under center.

After the decision is made, the staff that the new head coach is going to assemble will take center stage. If they hire a defensive head coach, who can he bring in as his offensive coordinator? If it is an offensive guy, does he entertain keeping Denard Wilson as the defensive coordinator? If not, how deep is his list of potential candidates?

After the staff is assembled, Borgonzi will move on to deciding which guys who are impending free agents he will try to retain. Wes Wisely posted the full list of those guys here. Chig Okonkwo should be the first guy he tries to work out a new contract with.

Then, he will move on to free agents from other teams. The Titans are projected to have over $105 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap. That is before they cut anyone currently under contract. Cutting guys like Calvin Ridley and L’Jarius Sneed will free up more than $20 million in cap space.

The last big point of the offseason will be the 2026 NFL Draft. The Titans will most likely have a top-5 pick. Do they use that to add a playmaker for Ward? Do they use it to get a dynamic EDGE rusher, or do they trade the pick to add more picks in the 2026 and future drafts?

It’s an exciting time to be a Titans fan. 2026 is going to be the start of the next great era of Titans’ football.

Titans draft: Pair of pass rushers dominate in College Football Playoff

gettyimages-2250363669.jpg

The Tennessee Titans will almost certainly enter the 2026 NFL Draft needing to address their pass rush. Though free agency comes first, there aren’t any legitimate impact EDGEs scheduled to hit the open market. The list could include Trey Hendrickson, Kwity Paye, and Boye Mafe. Hendrickson is an aging asset, and Mafe/Paye are quality football players at best.

The draft represents the Titans’ best opportunity to upgrade the EDGE position. Other positions could garner first-round consideration, especially wide receiver. But The Titans don’t have a single starting-caliber defensive end under contract for next season.

With Mike Borgonzi and his scouting staff evaluating the ongoing College Football Playoff closely, two potential top-10 picks have thrived at pass rusher. Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr. and Texas Tech’s David Bailey were outstanding in their respective games. The Titans should have both Bain on Bailey on their shortlist.

David Bailey sack! 🔥

— Justin M (@JustinM_NFL) January 1, 2026

There’s been so much debate over Bain’s true NFL Draft stock. The Athletic analyst Dane Brugler recently claimed some NFL scouts see Bain as a defensive tackle instead of the EDGE spot he’s currently playing, prompting some Day Two (Round 2/3) grades.

Bain has responded to that national criticism by putting forth two incredible performances in back-to-back CFP wins. He helped his Hurricanes upset No. 2 Ohio State on Wednesday. Bain had a sack and multiple tackles for loss. He helped Miami control the line of scrimmage and stifle the Buckeyes offense.

Bailey was all over the field for Texas Tech against Oregon. With Bain and Arvell Reese facing positional questions, his evaluation is far clearer. Bailey is an athletic pass rusher with long arms and first-step speed and explosiveness.

The Titans had to be impressed with both Bailey and Bain. They’ll continue scouting them closely throughout the pre-draft process. Both prospects are potential first-round picks for Borgonzi.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk clarifies front office structure

imagn-26683310.jpg

If you live in Nashville or consume Nashville media, you have heard endless discussion about the setup of the Tennessee Titans’ front office. To me, that discussion has always been much ado about nothing. Although the way the structure was communicated was pretty convoluted, it seemed pretty simple. General manager Mike Borgonzi is in charge of all things roster and coaching-related. President of Football Operations Chad Brinker handles the stuff that is more support for that stuff.

Amy Adams Strunk put out a statement today that spells that out for people who couldn’t understand it before:

So Borgonzi is leading the coaching search. That is an important clarification as we head into the first phase of the Titans’ offseason. That tells me that Matt Nagy is higher on the list right now because of his connection to Borgonzi than Mike McCarthy with his connection to Brinker.

I expect the Titans to get things rolling early next week. Those two guys, Nagy and McCarthy, will be available to interview right away, with the Chiefs being out of the playoffs and McCarthy not having a job this season. They will have to wait on any candidates who are with playoff teams that don’t have a bye.

Tennessee Titans head coaching search primer

imagn-26046111.jpg

The Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan in October. We have been speculating on potential names for the next head coach ad nauseam since then. Yesterday, we received clarification from Amy Adams Strunk that General Manager Mike Borgonzi will lead the coaching search. Borgonzi can officially begin the process on Monday morning by lining up interviews that can start as early as Tuesday.

Here is everything you need to know about the Titans’ head coaching search:

Titans coaching search timeline

The Titans can begin virtual interviews on Tuesday, January 6th, for any coaches who don’t currently have a job, coaches who are with a team that did not make the playoffs, or coaches on a team that played today, Saturday, January 3rd, whose team has a first-round bye.

On Wednesday, January 7th, they can interview coaches from teams that have a first-round bye whose team played on Sunday, January 4th.

On Tuesday, January 13th, the Titans can interview candidates on teams that played and lost in the wild-card round on Saturday, January 10th, or Sunday, January 11th.

Finally, on Wednesday, January 14th, they can begin interviews with coaches whose team played and lost in the Monday, January 12th, wild-card round.

Zac Lyons put together a fantastic spreadsheet laying out the timelines for potential coaching candidates:

Here's the version 1.0 of the #Titans HC Schedule per NFL rules.

These are for virtual interviews. In-person interviews cannot start until January 19th

I'll update any playoff coaches once we get a schedule or confirmation of their bye week

What are the Titans looking for in their next head coach?

While we have no way of knowing the criteria Borgonzi actually has for the next head coach, we do know that the development of Cam Ward has to be near the top of the list. That doesn’t mean they will absolutely hire an offensive-minded coach, but it does mean that if they hire a defensive-minded coach, that person needs to have a strong list of potential offensive coordinators.

After the way things went with Callahan, it would also make sense for them to be looking for someone with previous experience as a head coach. Now, that comes with pluses and minuses. The minus is that any coach who has been a head coach before was fired from that job for not performing well. The plus is that they know what the job entails, and have hopefully learned from what didn’t work previously.

Titans’ rumored head coaching candidates:

As I said above, names have been floating around since Callahan was fired in October. Here are the names of guys who have been rumored to be on the Titans’ list by various reports (in no particular order):

  • Matt Nagy – current Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator
  • Mike McCarthy – unemployed, most recently the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys
  • Lou Anarumo – current Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator
  • Robert Saleh – current San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator
  • Jeff Haley – current Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator
  • Vance Joseph – current Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator
  • Chris Shula – current Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator
  • Jesse Minter – current Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator
  • Klint Kubiak – current Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator
  • Anthony Weaver – current Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator
  • Arthur Smith – current Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive coordinator
  • Anthony Campanile – current Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive coordinator

That is not an exhaustive list, but it is the names that I have seen reported. Zach’s list has a lot of candidates whom he assumes they will talk to, and my guess is that they end up interviewing a lot of the guys on his list. He also has three current head coaches listed, Mike Tomlin, Kevin Stefanski, and John Harbaugh, who may or may not be available pending whether or not they are fired from their current jobs.

Current favorite to be the next Titans’ coach

You have to start with Nagy here. He has the obvious connection to Borgonzi from their time together with the Chiefs. Dan Pompei mentioned in his article about Nagy at The Athletic this week that Nagy helped Borgonzi prepare for GM interviews last year.

After Nagy, it’s tough to really have a favorite. The guys with Green Bay connections would have been next before the report that this is Borgonzi’s show. Chad Brinker will be a part of the process, but it’s not going to be a joint effort between Brinker and Borgonzi as was previously assumed.

The next few weeks are just the beginning of what is going to be a very busy offseason for the Titans. We will have all of it covered for you here at MCM!

Tennessee Titans week 18 rooting guide

imagn-27895565.jpg

The Tennessee Titans currently hold the 4th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They can move as high as two with a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and some help around the league. The lowest they could pick is seventh with a win over the Jaguars and everything else going wrong. Either way, they are going to be in a prime position to draft Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State.

For the Titans to get the second pick in the draft, they need the New York Giants to beat the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets to beat the Buffalo Bills. The Arizona Cardinals are the other team with three wins, but their strength of schedule is tougher than the Titans, so the Titans would pick ahead of them if both teams have three wins. Strength of schedule is also the reason the Titans cannot get the first pick over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Titans would drop to seventh with a win and a Washington Commanders loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a Cleveland Browns loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and a Cardinals loss.

So in short, tomorrow we are cheering for the Giants, Jets, Browns, Cardinals, and Commanders to all win.

Cleveland Browns expected to fire Kevin Stefanski

imagn-27894851.jpg

Things are about to get really interesting for the Tennessee Titans. They can finally start the process of finding their next head coach. They have been connected to a lot of guys already, including the report Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has already requested an interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

One thing over the next 24 hours is that there are multiple reports out there that the Cleveland Browns are expected to fire Kevin Stefanski. The Browns have made the playoffs three times in Stefanski’s six seasons. His overall record is 44-56 entering today, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

The Browns are in the discussion as the worst-run franchise in the entire NFL. In 2022, they sold the farm for former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. The issues around Watson have been very well chronicled. In addition to the off-the-field stuff, Watson has mostly been injured since the Browns acquired him.

When he was actually on the field in Cleveland, he played terribly. In the four seasons since they acquired him, Watson has played in just 19 games, throwing for 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. It’s tough to win games when your quarterback plays so poorly.

Stefanski should absolutely be on the list of guys Borgonzi brings in for an interview while searching for the next head coach of this team. He’s a good coach who was dealt a tough hand as the coach of the Browns.

What are your thoughts on Stefanski?

Titans updated 2026 NFL Draft order: Current 1st-round pick after Week 18

imagn-27759953.jpg

The Tennessee Titans end the day just where they started, with the 4th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They barely lost out to the Arizona Cardinals for the third pick based on strength of schedule. The Titans finished with a .574 SOS, while the Cardinals finished at .571.

The Titans will be in a position to get a really good player with that pick. The needs on this roster are abundant. To me, the biggest need is a number one wide receiver for Cam Ward. That is why the picture for anything 2026 NFL Draft order related has been Carnell Tate. He looks like the best receiver in this draft.

Mike Borgonzi would probably love to be able to trade back a little bit and add extra picks in this draft and future drafts. That is a little tougher when teams are trying to move up to get a quarterback, but it does happen.

Updated 2026 NFL Draft order

  1. Las Vegas Raiders 2-15
  2. New York Jets 3-14
  3. Arizona Cardinals 3-14
  4. Tennessee Titans 3-14
  5. New York Giants 4-13
  6. Cleveland Browns 5-12
  7. Washington Commanders 5-12
  8. New Orleans Saints 6-11
  9. Kansas City Chiefs 6-11
  10. Cincinnati Bengals 6-11
  11. Miami Dolphins 7-10
  12. Dallas Cowboys 7-9-1
  13. Los Angeles Rams (via Atlanta Falcons 8-9)
  14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8-9
  15. New York Jets (via Indianapolis Colts 8-9)
  16. Baltimore Ravens/Pittsburgh Steelers (pending SNF football)
  17. Detroit Lions 9-8
  18. Minnesota Vikings 9-8

Appreciate the comprehensive breakdown on the coaching search timeline. Having Borgonzi lead the search definitely makes things clearer, and yeah, that Nagy connection seems pretty significant now.

I'm intrigued by the Stefanski news though. If Cleveland actually cuts him loose, that changes the whole landscape of this search. The guy won Coach of the Year twice and managed to drag that franchise to the playoffs three times despite the Watson disaster. That's genuinely impressive when you consider what he was working with. Hard to judge a coach too harshly when his starting QB situation has been that unstable.

My concern with Nagy is the Chicago tenure. I know he's had time to reset in Kansas City and learn under Reid again, but 34-31 with the Bears and that offense getting progressively worse each year... that sticks with me a bit. The Reid coaching tree has plenty of branches that didn't work out as head coaches.

Stefanski feels like a safer bet if he becomes available. Proven he can develop quarterbacks (Baker's best season, got solid play out of Brissett), runs a creative offense, and has actual playoff wins on his resume. That seems like exactly what you'd want for Ward's development.

The fourth pick landing spot is fine. Would've been nice to sneak up to two or three, but there should still be quality talent available. Tate would be a great addition if he's there - Ward needs weapons badly. Though I wonder if Borgonzi might look at trading back if someone falls in love with a QB prospect and wants to move up.

Lot of moving pieces over the next few weeks. Should be interesting to see who gets the first interview.

Titans request interviews with Matt Nagy, Vance Joseph, Lou Anarumo, and Steve Spagnuolo

imagn-27488377.jpg

[UPDATE 9:52 AM] – The Titans have also requested to interview Indianapolis Colts DC Lou Anarumo and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, per Ian Rapoport.

Mike Borgonzi is off and running this morning with his interview requests in the search for the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Ian Rapoport has reported this morning that the Titans have requested interviews with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. There has been a lot of speculation that Borgonzi will want a guy who has been a head coach before. Both of these guys fit that bill.

Nagy coached the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. He went 34-31 as the head coach there and made the playoffs twice. Nagy has been the most heavily rumored candidate that the Titans would interview since Brian Callahan was fired in October.

Joseph was the head coach of the Broncos from 2017-2018. He compiled an 11-21 record in his two seasons at the helm. The Broncos’ defense has been one of the best in the league this season.

You can expect more names to come out as the day goes on. Keep in mind that for now, the only current coaches Borgonzi can interview are guys on teams that did not make the playoffs and guys on teams that have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Those two teams are the Broncos in the AFC and the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC.

Ranking the Titans’ first 4 HC interview requests from best to worst

gettyimages-2190117227.jpg

The Tennessee Titans kicked their head coaching search into high gear on Monday morning. The team has already requested interviews with four candidates. They are Kansas City Chiefs coordinators Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuolo, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

This is a fairly uninspiring list. There’s no need for Titans fans to immediately panic, however. General manager Mike Borgonzi is expected to request interviews with upwards of 10 candidates. Initial discussions will occur virtually, and finalists will eventually travel to Nashville for in-person interviews.

We’ve ranked the Titans’ first four head coaching interview requests from best to worst.

Matt Nagy

Nagy isn’t a popular candidate with the Titans’ fanbase, but he may be the best of this first initial round. Nagy went 34-31 in four seasons as the Chicago Bears’ head coach despite being straddled with Mitch Trubisky, Justin Fields, and a post-peak Nick Foles at quarterback. His relationship with Borgonzi (eight seasons together in KC) might make him a legitimate candidate.

Vance Joseph

The Broncos have fielded the best defense in the NFL collectively since naming Joseph their defensive coordinator in 2023. He would be a stabilizing figure in the wake of the Brian Callahan disaster. Joseph would ultimately be an uninspiring appointment, though. He went 11-21 in two seasons (2017-18) as the Broncos’ head coach, though his quarterbacks were Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiller, Paxton Lynch, and Case Keenum.

Lou Anarumo

Anarumo feels like another low-floor, veteran, stabilizing option. He possesses a brilliant defensive mind, but has never been an NFL head coach. It’s tough to envision a 59-year-old, first-time, defensive-minded head coach as the best option to develop Cam Ward.

Steve Spagnuolo

Like Nagy, Steve Spagnuolo possesses a relationship with Borgonzi through Kansas City. It feels like the only justifiable reason for his interview request. Spagnuolo is a brilliant defensive coordinator, but he has an all-time head coaching record of 11-41.

Cam Ward injury update: Titans quarterback will not need surgery

imagn-27931561.jpg

Good news on the Cam Ward injury front today. Both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are reporting that the Tennessee Titans quarterback will not need surgery. He does have a sprained AC joint, but the doctors do not believe it will require him to go under the knife. That speeds up his rehab process tremendously.

We probably won’t get an official timeline with the season being over, but this is probably more of a 6-12 week recovery versus the four months plus that would have been required with surgery. That would have Ward available for OTAs with whoever the new coach is.

Ward also needs to spend some time this offseason working on his footwork. Being out until training camp would have made that extremely difficult. We know that Ward is going to put in the work. This outcome gets him ready to do that work a whole lot sooner.

We saw real progress from Ward in the last quarter of the season. He finished the season throwing for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Ravens fire John Harbaugh

gettyimages-2173802064.jpg

I don’t know what Tennessee Titans general manager John Harbaugh is doing right now, but he should stop doing whatever it is and get John Harbaugh on the phone. It was just announced that the Baltimore Ravens have fired Harbaugh. He immediately becomes the top coaching candidate available.

There had been rumblings for the last few weeks that there was a split coming between Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson. Their relationship had deteriorated behind the scenes. The Ravens’ loss should be the Titans’ gain here. For once, the Titans should get a former Raven instead of it being the other way around.

Harbaugh has been the head coach in Baltimore since 2008. In that time, he has compiled a 180-113 record. His teams made the postseason 12 times in 18 seasons, including a Super Bowl win in 2012.

There has been a lot made of this being a weak cycle for head coaching candidates. That all changes with Harbaugh on the market. Borgonzi and the Titans should do whatever it takes to get him to be their next head coach.
