News Senators Team Notes

Senators Sign James Reimer to a PTO

This franchise has had some unfortunate days over the years but whatever the hell happened yesterday has to be right up there.

In the morning, fans were still reeling from an ugly loss in Utah. With the team sitting just a couple points out of the Eastern Conference basement, it felt like nobody was safe. Enter any online community and you’d see calls for drastic changes, from the Captain to the mascot, everyone was a problem.

Then, in a dark corner of the internet, all hell broke loose. And it spread like wildfire. Then with rumours swirling, the organization took the extraordinary step of responding to the online speculation.

Then, in the evening, they capped off the day with a six-goal loss to the Avalanche. Somewhere in that Colorado debacle, they signed James Reimer to a PTO. The 37-year old Reimer appeared in 24 games last season (22 with Buffalo and two with Anaheim) and most recently suited up for Canada at the Spengler Cup.

With both Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard looking overwhelmed and the status of Linus Ullmark a wee bit murky, Steve Staios had to do something. And this is what they came up with. Reimer is expected to join the team in the next couple days.

Wonder what the Ottawa Senators have planned for an encore?!

Game Day – Senators Host Defending Champions in Ottawa

The sky fell in Ottawa this week

A little dramatic perhaps but that’s sort of the way things felt around here over the last five days. Three ugly losses and then an off-ice circus of sorts and in the blink of an eye it feels like a once promising season is slipping away. Yet with 39 games left and the Eastern Conference tighter than ever, the show must go on.

The Senators look to right the ship as they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on a Saturday night in Ottawa.

ROSTER UPDATE: Stephen Halliday, Mads Sogaard have been loaned to the @BellevilleSens; Hunter Shepard was recalled.

Some tinkering in the forward combinations and on defence based on what we saw at the morning skate. This is how Travis Green lined his guys up.
