News Senators Team Notes

Senators Trade for Dennis Gilbert

The Ottawa Senators have found a bit of help for their left side. And it’s a familiar face.

This afternoon, the Sens announced that they have acquired defenceman Dennis Gilbert from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Max Guenette.

A familiar face coming back to town!

Gilbert appeared in four games with the Senators last season. He has yet to appear in an NHL game this season and has suited up for just six games in the American Hockey League.

Guenette, a 7th round pick in 2019, has yet to suit up for a game in Belleville this season.

Game Day – Senators Begin Lengthy Road Trip in Anaheim

The Ottawa Senators are a hockey team operating in the National Hockey League. And I am an anonymous blogger that tells you about them from time to time.

Since the 1992/1993 season, the Senators (or the Sens, as they often called by their loyal supporters) have proudly represented Canada’s national pastime in Canada’s national capital. They play their home games in a stadium called the Canadian Tire Centre (or The Tire as it’s sometimes called by at least one person) and their team colours have traditionally been some combination of red, black, gold and white.

While they have yet to capture the sport’s ultimate prize (The Stanley Cup) they will seek a delayed revenge on the team that deprived them of that honour in a regular season game that takes place TONIGHT.

The Ottawa Senators make their long-awaited return to the ice surface as they pay a visit to the surprisingly-competent Anaheim Ducks.

Tonight’s game kicks off what is a grueling seven-game road trip. Tough for the team obviously but also a wee bit tricky for fans too as the next ten days of hockey all have different start times.

10 PM, 7 PM, 9 PM, 10 PM, 4 PM and 6 PM.

PaV is gonna need to be ON HIS GAME.

Here’s how the Senators are expected to line up tonight in California, including an NHL debut for Stephen Halliday and a surprise absence for Ridly Greig.

And because of the late start, you have a few extra hours to get a lost in the beauty of the HEAD2HEAD table.

Game Day – Senators Visit Sharks on Saturday Night

I think Fred Turner said it best…

And I’ll be taking care of business (every day)
Taking care of business (every way)
I’ve been taking care of business (it’s all mine)
Taking care of business and working overtime, work out

When Brady Tkachuk went down early in the season, it looked like the Ottawa Senators were in deep, deep trouble. A season full of potential was seemingly sullied before they even really got started. And yet here we stand, just days away from the return of the Captain, and the Senators are just fine, thank you. With a dramatic win in the wee hours of the morning earlier this week, the Sens banked another two points, cozied up to the top teams in the Atlantic Division and got this lengthy road trip pointed in the right direction.

They’ll look to keep it rollin’ when they pay a visit to Macklin Celebrini and whoever else plays for the San Jose Sharks.

This morning, the Senators announced that Lassi Thomson has been returned to Bellville and that’s seemingly because Thomas Chabot is healthy and ready to go. No skate today so we’ll have to wait until later to confirm who slots in where and whether Ridly Greig returns. TeeBeeDee.

Game Day – Senators Continue Road Trip in Los Angeles

Back in October, the Ottawa Senators had talked about wanting to be a team that could handle adversity. And then in like the second week of the season, they got smacked up side the head with a dose of it.

Brady Tkachuk is the heartbeat of this team so the idea of playing the first two months without him seemed more than daunting. Especially considering the ghosts of Octobers and Novembers past. And yet as we enter the last week of November, the Senators are knocking on the door of the Atlantic Division lead and have posted a ridiculous 10-4-4 record during Brady’s absence. And the Captain is coming back soon too.

The Ottawa Senators continue their seven-game road trip with a stop in Los Angeles, California on Monday night.

Couple changes expected to the Ottawa lineup tonight. First of all, Thomas Chabot is out again. He didn’t finish the game against the Sharks the other night and isn’t expected to play. Ridly Greig mysterious absence continues. Here is how the Senators are expected to line up for this one.

Perron-Stützle-Batherson
Eller-Cozens-Zetterlund
Amadio-Pinto-Giroux
Cousins-Halliday-Hodgson

Leevi Merilainen starts.

That puck isn’t droppin’ till 9:00 PM, so rest up. The game is on Amazon Prime so make sure you are sending some of your money to Jeff Bezos every month so you can watch your favourite hockey team. TSN1200 has the radio call or alternatively, you can just have someone with an Amazon subscription watch the game and you can look at them while they describe it to you.

Wondering how these teams match up and you have stricken last weekend’s game from your memory? A closer look via something I’m calling the HEAD2HEAD table.

Game Day – Senators Continue Road Trip in Dallas

Just two more to go.

That’s all that the Senators have left on the road trip that was affectionately referred to as “The Road Trip of Doom”. A seven-game odyssey that took the Sens through California, to Vegas, St. Louis, Dallas and finally, to Montreal. It’s the toughest portion of the schedule all year and so far anyway, the Senators have navigated it well. Tonight might be the toughest game yet though.

The Ottawa Senators visit the Stars on Sunday night in Dallas.

Outside of whatever the heck the Colorado Avalanche are right now, the Dallas Stars might be the league’s best. They’ve won three straight, they have a +18 goal differential and their power play is currently ranked first in the National Hockey League. The two teams played back in Ottawa earlier this month and the Stars let a two-goal lead slip away. The Senators will have to be at their best tonight.

Think we’ll see the Senators at least start with a similar lineup as the other night in St. Louis although their is some uncertainty on the blueline. Dennis Gilbert was recalled from Belleville yesterday with Thomas Chabot being moved to the IR. We’ll see what this means for the blueline a little closer to game time.

Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM this evening. A delightful palate cleanser after a day of watching football. The game is available on TV (TSN5), Radio (TSN1200 and 104.7) and on the Internet (Shady Internet Pirates).

Wondering how the Senators match up against this evenings opponent but you’re just too damn busy to do the research yourself? Let the HEAD2HEAD table be your guide.

Game Day – Senators End Road Trip in Montreal

Like the season to this point, this road trip has had a bit of everything.

The Ottawa Senators got off to a blistering start on this seven-game trip, reeling off impressive wins in Anaheim, San Jose and Vegas. And as good as they looked in those wins, the losses in Los Angeles, St. Louis and Dallas were all pretty disappointing. Sunday’s loss was flat out humbling. And now, as they hit the final stop in this season-long road trip, they have an opportunity to end on a high note.

The Ottawa Senators visit the Canadiens on Tuesday night in Montreal.

This is how Travis Green had ’em lined up at the morning skate, including a return to the lineup for Kurtis MacDermid. Nick Cousins comes out of the lineup to make room. There’s also a bit of shuffling in the top six.

Perron-Cozens-Batherson

For SensChirp Premium Members, not only do you have an opportunity to provide input on things like who should be the Captain or what jerseys they wear and unlimited Costco hot dogs, but you also get exclusive access to all the illegal streaming sites your heart can handle. Game Day – Senators Return Home to Host Rangers

For the first time in what feels like an eternity, the Ottawa Senators are coming home.

They capped off the seven-game road trip with a big ol’ COSTCO HOT DOG sized win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night and in the process, finished the trip with a more than sufficient 4-3-0 record. What looked like it had the potential to be a season derailing trip was anything but. And now they return home feeling damn good about where they stand.

The Ottawa Senators host the New York Rangers on Thursday night at The Tire.

Couple guys missing from the morning skate including Artem Zub and Lars Eller. Stephen Halliday is back up from Belleville and Dennis Gilbert slides in on that third pairing. MacDermid sits and Cousins returns.

Game Day – Senators Host Blues on Saturday Night

Okay, so maybe not the welcome home party we had in mind.

After spending a few weeks on the road, the Senators made their long-awaited return to the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night and honestly, it was a bit of a dud. A country-themed dud. At no point in that game against the New York Rangers were the Sens at anything close to their best.

Let’s get this train back on the tracks, shall we? The Ottawa Senators host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night in Ottawa.

And they’re gonna have to find a way without one of their most important players. This morning, the Senators announced that Shane Pinto has been placed on the IR after that injury against the Rangers earlier in the week. Right now they’re saying at least two weeks but the good news is, no surgery required. Hayden Hodgson has been called up and Ridly Greig is gonna slide into Pinto’s spot on that third line. Zub was back on the ice this AM though

Here is how they lined up this morning.

Game Day – Senators Host Devils on Tuesday Night

Ya know, this “Welcome Home” party kinda sucks.

At least so far. After an encouraging road trip where they ended on a high-note, the Ottawa Senators have stumbled a little bit lately. Despite being back in front of their fans after three long weeks and with their Captain finally healthy, the Sens have looked surprisingly lifeless.

They’ll look for some kind of spark as the New Jersey Devils roll into town on a Tuesday night.

Could be one lineup change as it seems like Lars Eller might be ready to return. He took a regular shift on the fourth line during the morning skate and is being called a game time decision.

This is how they’re expected to line up to start…

Game Day – Senators Hit the Road to Visit Blue Jackets

Maybe we’re the problem?

The Ottawa Senators looked just fine on the road but when they returned to the friendly confines of the Canadian Tire Centre, they fell on their face a little bit. The Sens ended up on the wrong side of three straight close games on home ice and have suddenly lost five of their last six and find themselves in 7th (?!) place in the Atlantic Division.

The good news is, tonight, they’re far, far away from us. The Ottawa Senators are on the road again, this time to visit the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Eller Injured in Win Over Blue Jackets

It wasn’t all good news for the Ottawa Senators last night.

Despite cruising to a much-needed 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets last night, the Sens learned they’re going to be without Lars Eller for the next little bit. Eller blocked a shot in the second period and left the game with what the team is calling a lower-body injury.

Eller, the first player from Denmark to appear in 1000 games in the NHL, has suited up in 28 games for the Senators this season, racking up six points along the way and has been a useful veteran presence on the team’s fourth line.

Eller is definitely going to miss the remainder of the road trip and perhaps longer.

The Ottawa Senators travelled to Minnesota today and will take on the Wild on Saturday afternoon.

Game Day – Senators Visit Wild on Saturday Afternoon

That’s more like it.

After a surprisingly ugly homestand, the Ottawa Senators got back to their winning ways on Thursday night in Columbus. It wasn’t a work of art by any stretch of the imagination but they definitely scored more goals than the other team. A step in the right direction.

The Senators look to build on that effort as they visit the Minnesota Wild on Saturday afternoon.

The Senators might be catching the Wild at a good time. They’re 7-2-1 in their last ten games and have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference but thanks to yesterday’s big ol’ trade, the Wild are going to be a little bit shorthanded today. Both Marco Rossi and Zeev Buium are gone and Quinn Hughes won’t make his debut until tomorrow.

Assume the Senators will go with a similar look as the other night in Columbus except maybe with Stephen Halliday drawing in for the injured Lars Eller.

Wondering how the Senators match-up with the Wild and too damn lazy to do your own research? The HEAD2HEAD table is the way to go.
