NFC Playoff Picture: Seattle Seahawks drop a spot after Philadelphia Eagles win

imagn-27548147.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks were in first place in the NFC for 24 hours. The Philadelphia Eagles reclaimed first place on Monday night by beating the Green Bay Packers, but Seattle is still tied for the top record in the conference.

It isn’t just tied at the top of the NFC. In the NFC West, the Los Angeles Rams are even with the Seahawks but Seattle has a better record in the division. LA is the top wild card team right now. The two teams face each other in Week 11.

The NFC North leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the New England Patriots. Tampa falls to fourth place with the loss.

The Green Bay Packers fell from third all the way to seventh in the playoff picture with their loss. The Detroit Lions move into the NFC North lead thanks to a tiebreaker win over the Chicago Bears.

In the wild card, the Rams and Chicago Bears both won. The 49ers lost, so every team that is better than 6-4 is in playoff position.

NFC standings after Week 10

The Dallas Cowboys are on their bye.

1. Philadelphia Eagles (7-2, 6-1 NFC)
2. Seattle Seahawks (7-2, 4-2 NFC)
3. Detroit Lions (6-3, win over CHI, win over TB)
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-3, loss to DET)
5. Los Angeles Rams (7-2)
6. Chicago Bears (6-3, loss to DET)
7. Green Bay Packers (5-3-1)
8. San Francisco 49ers (6-4)

14. Washington Commanders (3-7)
15. New Orleans Saints (2-8)
16. New York Giants (2-8)

NFC West standings after Week 10

The Rams and 49ers had the biggest game in the division this week with Los Angeles smoking San Francisco. The Seahawks won to stay in front of L.A. on a tiebreaker. The Arizona Cardinals were clobbered by the Seahawks.

1. Seattle Seahawks (7-2, 1-1 NFCW)
2. Los Angeles Rams (7-2, 0-1 NFCW)
3. San Francisco 49ers (6-4)

Why Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams wasn’t ‘flexed’ to prime time

gettyimages-2192552977.jpg

If you combined the win-loss records, the number one game of the NFL’s entire Week 11 slate is between the 7-2 Seattle Seahawks and 7-2 Los Angeles Rams. It’s for first place in the NFC West and possibly the top spot in the entire conference, and it’s a longstanding rivalry matchup.

And yet, it’s a game that is limited to the 1:05 pm PT window on FOX. Heck, it looks as if it won’t even get the lead broadcast team of Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady, who are scheduled for the 10 am PT game between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. As the ‘singleheader’ network that week, FOX will only show one game in regional markets, and a lot of the country therefore won’t see Seahawks-Rams.

It’s not like the Rams are some anonymous team, while the Seahawks have consistently been a night game fixture for well over a decade. So, what gives?

The reasons why Seahawks vs. Rams can’t be flexed to prime time

Different flex windows for different prime time slots

If you’re unaware of the television rules, there are windows for flex scheduling eligibility. NBC’s Sunday Night Football flex window begins in Week 5, while Monday Night Football’s window is between Weeks 12-17, and Thursday Night Football on Prime Video is Weeks 13-17.

Obviously, we’re in Week 11, so MNF and TNF are not options, and they cannot switch TNF games without a 21-day notice. It’s also why a complete trash heap of a matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football is staying in its slot.

Sunday Night Football’s game this weekend is the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, which is a huge clash in the NFC between division leaders. There is zero chance that game is getting flexed out.

No double prime time divisional matchups anymore

A fairly recent NFL change is that divisional matchups cannot both be on prime time. The Rams-Seahawks game in Week 16 on TNF means that the corresponding Seahawks-Rams cannot also go to SNF, MNF, or TNF. This is to protect CBS and FOX from being shut out of their typical marquee matchups.

Why can’t Seahawks vs. Rams move to the late CBS doubleheader slot?

I suppose it could have; CBS carried Seahawks vs. Cardinals in Seattle while the Glendale matchup was on TNF. However, the lead CBS game is the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos in Denver, so all that moving Seahawks at Rams would accomplish is putting it on another network in which they would get second billing anyway.

This is purely happenstance and there’s nothing the NFL can do about it. The fact that this game was a late singleheader FOX kickoff in the first place tells you the league didn’t think Seahawks vs. Rams in Week 11 would carry such magnitude; I suspect primarily because of how the Seahawks were viewed.

We’ll see you at 1:05 pm on FOX!

Seahawks national power rankings roundup, Week 11: National media higher on the Rams than Seattle

gettyimages-2245895260.jpg

Last week, after the Seattle Seahawks blew out the Washington Commanders and acquired wide receiver, Rashid Shaheed, the national media was overall optimistic, with a few sites viewing the Seahawks as true Super Bowl Contenders. Now, with a blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals, will more national media outlets view Seattle a legitimate threats to win the title?

As can be expected after back to back blowout wins, the national consensus is becoming that the Seahawks are legitimate contenders. All five national media sites polled (NFL.com, Pro Football Talk, Bleacher Report, ESPN, and CBS Sports) moved Seattle up (or in the case of NFL.com, kept them ranked at first.)

Let’s start with the lowest rankings and make our way up. It is quite a testament to this team’s dominance that the lowest rankings they have is around the 4-6 range. PFT, who has the Seahawks ranked the lowest at 6th, moved the team up two spots. PFT still kept the Los Angeles Rams at 1st while noting that the Week 11 match-up between the two teams will be a “gigantic showdown.”

ESPN moved the Seahawks up four spots, from 9th to 5th on this weeks rankings, also behind the Rams who came in at 2nd. In their ranking of Seattle, ESPN talks about Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s dominance this season, noting multiple eye-opening stats, including that Smith-Njigba maintains his lead on the rest of the NFL in receiving yards (1,041) with more than a 200-yard gap between him and second place (Ja’Marr Chase with 831). Bleacher Report has also moved Seattle up, this time up two spots from 6th to 4th. In this ranking Bleacher Report brought up the strong combination of an opportunistic defense and strong “three-headed running back rotation.” Just to keep track, Bleacher Report also has the Rams ranked as 1st in the league.

What is notable this week is that NFL.com is no longer the only national media site that has ranked the Seahawks as the best team in the league. CBS Sports has also moved the Seahawks into 1st place, moving them up two spots from last week. CBS noted that the Seahawks defensive front is “nasty” and “dominant” and will need to show their force against the Rams this week. Speaking of the Rams, CBS Sports has them coming in right after Seattle, at 2nd in their rankings.

NFL.com who was the first national media site to rank Seattle so highly is maintaining their stance that they are the best team in the league. Taking a big picture look at the league, the season has not had one team truly take the mantle as the true “best team in the league.” Just look how the top teams in the league all have at least two losses. However, NFL.com, in their ranking of Seattle mentions that keeping them at first can be a sign of true stability for once, noting that the victory over Arizona felt like the win over the Houston Texans in that it was “far from a clean performance for four quarters” but still was a 22-point victory. NFL.com, like CBS Sports, also had the Rams coming in at 2nd in their rankings.

After week nine, the average power ranking between the five sites (NFL.com, PFT, Bleacher Report, ESPN, and CBS Sports) was 5.4. After Week 10, the average power ranking between those same sites is 3.4, in true contender position. Just because we were keeping note of the Rams’ rankings as well, after week ten, the Rams average power ranking between these sites is 1.6. These averages for the Seahawks (3.4) and the Rams (1.6) just further highlight how gigantic of a match-up this Week 11 game is. Time will tell if Seattle can come out victorious and truly take hold as the best team in the NFL.

Seahawks Reacts Survey, Week 11: Will Seattle finish as the NFC’s No. 1 seed?

gettyimages-2245893409.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seahawks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

It’s time for another edition of Seahawks Reacts! The confidence poll has consistently been in the upper 90s, and blowing out the Arizona Cardinals will surely keep it that way. Relative to the other surveyed sites, the Seahawks have boasted the top fan confidence throughout the year. I wonder what Arizona’s will be like after such a humbling.

Our usual game week question is predicting the score margin of the next Seahawks matchup. This Sunday marks a huge showdown with the Los Angeles Rams, who are also 7-2 and on an absolute tear. The Rams are slightly favored at home against their longtime rivals, and the Seahawks have not been able to beat LA with Matthew Stafford starting. They’ve only been blown out once (home in 2023) with Stafford starting, but a close loss is still a loss. This is by far the best Seahawks team to face really any McVay-era Rams squad, and this feels like a huge opportunity to firmly establish Seattle as the best in the NFC, if not the NFL.

The main question of the week is all about the No. 1 seed. Seattle sits at No. 2 on tiebreaker behind the Philadelphia Eagles, who technically have the inside track on the top spot by winning out. Seattle has been the No. 1 seed three other times: 2005, 2013, and 2014. The common theme? Reaching the Super Bowl. Can at least the No. 1 seed happen again this year? Vote on this simple “yes or no” question.

Answer the questions in the survey below:

Check back at the end of the week for the full results!

Seahawks-Rams Thursday injury report: Josh Jobe on track for return

imagn-27213864.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks’ Thursday injury report for their Week 11 mega clash with the Los Angeles Rams is lengthy, but not as daunting as it seems.

For some good news, cornerback Josh Jobe appears to be on his way to returning to the field after missing last week’s win over the Arizona Cardinals with a concussion. He was a full participant in practice, which should be as good a sign as any that he’ll be all systems go for Sunday.

The bad news is wide receiver Tory Horton may end up sitting out a second consecutive game with a shin injury. He was downgraded from a limited participant to a non-participant, which may be enough caution to think he’s not likely to play versus the Rams.

Concerning news is rookie left guard Grey Zabel popping up on the injury report as limited with a heel injury over the past two days. Seattle has been blessed to have the same starting lineup every game this season, but that will not happen this week due to center Jalen Sundell’s expected multi-week absence.

Ernest Jones IV is still a big mystery after a second straight limited practice. He was limited twice last week before not practicing on Friday before the Arizona Cardinals game.

The remaining positives are A.J. Barner, Jake Bobo, Christian Haynes, Cooper Kupp, Cody White, and Leonard Williams all practicing in full for a second straight day. I doubt any of them (likewise Coby Bryant and Jaxon Smith-Njigba) will have a game designation come Friday afternoon.

Seahawks-Rams final injury report: Ernest Jones returns, Tory Horton faces IR stint

imagn-27213732.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks are getting their best linebacker back, but they may not have their promising rookie receiver any time soon.

Ernest Jones will be available to face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, having missed last week’s blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals with a knee injury. Jones was a full participant in Friday’s practice, marking his first full-go since the injury suffered versus the Washington Commanders. It’s a big deal for a Seahawks defense already undermanned given safety Julian Love and defensive lineman Jarran Reed are on injured reserve.

Cornerback Josh Jobe has also cleared concussion protocol and will play on Sunday after he was concussed by Ty Okada (inadvertently, of course) in the Commanders game. Seattle is all set at inside linebacker and cornerback, which is great against the high-powered Rams offense.

Now for the unfun part.

The Seahawks are going from #NoBobo to #MoreBobo after Jake returned from his calf injury, but they will possibly lose exciting rookie Tory Horton for several weeks with shin and groin injuries. Based on Mike Macdonald’s comments, both Horton and center Jalen Sundell are in consideration for injured reserve, which would result in both being out until at least Week 15 versus the Indianapolis Colts.

IR is in consideration for both Tory Horton and Jalen Sundell, Macdonald says https://t.co/JzltlnSfCQ

— Dugar, Michael-Shawn (@MikeDugar) November 14, 2025

It’s a good thing the Seahawks traded for Rashid Shaheed, because they’re going to need him to be important at work pronto. Macdonald indicated that the imaging on Horton’s knee was done and obviously the results weren’t great if IR is a possibility.

If something happens to Olu Oluwatimi at the center position, rookie Bryce Cabeldue and Christian Haynes could be options. Haynes has to be activated by Wednesday or else he’ll revert back to injured reserve, so if Haynes is to get on the 53-man squad, it may come at Sundell’s expense.

Seahawks vs. Rams NFL TV Week 11 coverage map and FOX commentators

gettyimages-1244439022.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams is a battle between the top two teams in the NFC West, yet the NFL on FOX is not exactly giving it the treatment it deserves.

Unfortunately, this is a weekend in which CBS has the doubleheader, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos serving as the lead 1:25 p PT game. FOX having just one game to show on local networks means coverage can get a bit more scattered. For the Seahawks and Rams, their game isn’t the highest distribution of FOX’s slate. That honor belongs to the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, who also get Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady as the lead broadcasters.

Here’s the map from 506 Sports. If you’re in the blue area, you get Seahawks vs. Rams on your local FOX affiliate!

Screenshot-2025-11-15-at-2.10.06%E2%80%AFPM.png

With six FOX games it’s hard for the Seahawks-Rams to command a large national audience, and as we already explained it’s impractical to have flexed this matchup. Bears-Vikings has top billing, Packers-Giants technically has a wider distribution, then you get to Seahawks-Rams.

The No. 2 crew of Joe Davis and Greg Olsen will be in Inglewood, which may irritate Seattle sports fans given Olsen’s one-year stint with the Seahawks (and what he said after the Russell Wilson trade). Davis is not a voice any Mariners fans want to hear any time soon given he called Game 7 of the American League Championship Series between the Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. Davis and Olsen also worked the Seahawks’ opening day loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

You can see the other maps and the remaining Week 11 commentators by heading over to 506 Sports.

One more international game, everyone! Yes, one more 6:30 am PT kickoff for NFL football! And it’s the 3-7 Washington Commanders against the 3-7 Miami Dolphins. Oh joy! It’s the first time the NFL has played regular season football in Spain, and the venue choice is the beautiful Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, home to Real Madrid CF.

Due to the poor showing of the Commanders defense, Dan Quinn has seen enough and is calling the defensive plays moving forward in place of defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. The second season slump is real for the Commanders after last year’s shocking NFC Championship Game run.

The main 10 am PT kickoff is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills on CBS, while FOX is focused on the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis.

Enjoy the games! We’ll see you in the Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams 1st half game thread at about 12:30 pm PT.

Winners and Losers from another Seahawks loss to the Rams

gettyimages-2247037564.jpg

The more things change, the more they stay the same?

This was the big opportunity for the Seattle Seahawks against the Los Angeles Rams, who have emphatically owned them throughout the Sean McVay era. Half of their six wins versus the Rams since 2017 have come against backup quarterbacks. This was the clash of the top teams in the NFC West and the Seahawks came oh so close but didn’t get the job done. There’s one player who stands out above the rest in terms of the cut of the blame pie, but it’s not all just on the Seahawks’ quarterback.

It’s time for Winners and Losers from Rams 21, Seahawks 19.

Winners

Uchenna Nwosu

I could credit the whole defensive line for their outstanding work, particularly in short yardage, but Nwosu showed his value as a two-way player. He had a tackle for loss, a pass defensed, and was instrumental in Seattle slowing down the Rams offense after the slow opening quarter. By no means was Nwosu’s two-tackle performance representative of an uninvolved player.

DeMarcus Lawrence

He continues to wreak havoc as a run stopper but I am amazed at how he’s recaptured his best pass rushing form. ‘Tank’ had a QB hit, a tackle for loss, and was one of the reasons the Rams’ ordinarily outstanding play-action game was mostly snuffed out.

Coby Bryant

I thought he was in Loser territory for his early missed tackles, but that forced fumble on Puka Nacua after Darnold’s interception was reminiscent of his rookie season. Bryant also had a critical tackle on a Nacua jet sweep that gave Seattle that final possession.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

It didn’t feel like it but yes, JSN had 9 catches for 105 yards even with the struggles of Sam Darnold. His highlight was a sick one-handed catch along the sideline. Perhaps worryingly, JSN was the only receiver with a catch until the third quarter. The JSN-centric nature of this offense continues and I think it speaks to the need for Tory Horton to return ASAP.

Kenneth Walker III

Finally! Walker had a touchdown lost to a hold, but he did get Seattle’s only TD toward the end of the game. He rushed for 67 yards on 16 carries and 44 yards on three catches, giving him 111 scrimmage yards. I don’t believe Kubiak is getting either Walker or Charbonnet involved enough as pass catchers in this offense.

AJ Barner

Bet you didn’t have Barner having 10 catches in this one. Not exactly efficient with 70 receiving yards, but he picked up several key first downs as a receiver and he’s still very efficient as the sneak option in short yardage. Bad news? The Barn Yard sneak was finally defeated on the eighth attempt.

Jason Myers

I’m not faulting him for missing a 61-yard field goal, which would’ve tied his career long. He had four field goals (including from 57) and an extra point, so he accounted for 13 points on the afternoon.

Losers

Sam Darnold

With a capital L. That was atrocious. For all of the talk about unlucky turnovers charged to Darnold in recent weeks, he earned all of those interceptions on Sunday. Even the two-minute drill, which I understand is tough when pinned at your own 1, was not managed well from a clock management standpoint. Darnold cost Seattle several seconds and therefore potential yards with non-spike decisions and a terrible scramble throwaway for no yards. He nearly ran the clock out with :05 left on the quick throw to Rashid Shaheed to set up the Jason Myers field goal attempt. The missed TD to Shaheed was also a killer but I’m hopeful that chemistry will improve with those two over time.

The Rams seem to break him; or at least the Rams’ defensive concepts. That’s a huge problem for the rematch that he and Klint Kubiak will have to figure out. And in the grander scheme of things, Darnold has 10 turnovers over four games. His productivity on the positive side has been amazing but it was absent in the biggest regular season game Seattle has played in years.

Klint Kubiak

I don’t totally believe Kubiak called a poor game, but I wasn’t impressed with certain situational aspects, mainly the red zone failures. The Seahawks only called nine play-action passes out of 49 dropbacks. That can’t happen in a game where you never trailed by more than 11 points. What I think this game might have exposed or confirmed is that the Seahawks in true dropback passing are not potent enough to threaten top defenses like the Rams. This is why it’s of paramount importance the Seahawks control the game by playing with leads so that they don’t get forced into the type of passing offense that they’re not comfortable operating under.

Seattle’s clock management on offense (Klint Kubiak? Mike Macdonald? Sam Darnold? All of the above?)

This has been a recurring theme for the Seahawks in two-minute drills. I was fine with the time management to end the first half because it meant either the Seahawks scored or they didn’t, therefore denying the Rams another chance to get the ball back. They did not treat the fourth quarter with the urgency that was warranted when down by nine points, and I don’t think that’s acceptable.

Seattle has had the luxury of playing with leads almost the entire season, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers loss was one of the few times prior to this game that the Seahawks had to somewhat abandon their game plan. Whether it’s Darnold, Mike Macdonald, or Klint Kubiak, the clock management on offense has to be better in terms of looking to score more quickly.

And as an aside, I hated Mike Macdonald punting on 4th and 1 near his own 40 after Barner’s sneak was stuffed. Just run it again with a proper push and not the little wrinkle that was thrown in there! That type of conservative coaching is what Pete Carroll would be slated for by fans, so Mike shouldn’t be immune to that. Mike looks like a tremendous coach but his willingness to err on the side of caution in high-leverage situations is disappointing.

Seahawks’ offensive line health

After pristine health and therefore continuity on the Seattle offensive line, the dam is starting to burst at the weakest spot. Jalen Sundell is out with a knee injury for at least the next three weeks, while Grey Zabel’s knee injury looks more serious and we won’t know the answer for sure until imaging is done. Christian Haynes came in cold and you could see him get driven back multiple times in limited reps. This is really going to be a gut-check moment for John Benton’s group, because Zabel out could be way more catastrophic than realized.

The official who flagged Devon Witherspoon for a “personal foul” penalty

Seriously, what kind of bullshit was that? Is Witherspoon not supposed to tackle a guy who didn’t look like he gave himself up? The Rams didn’t score on this drive but the principle of flagging that is what pisses me off.

Final Notes

  • Despite everything I said about Darnold, I still believe he’s been a very good and often great quarterback this season. The clunker and timing of it against the specific opponent will dog him until at least the rematch in Seattle in Week 16, but I don’t want his turnover stretch to override how well he’s performed. He absolutely has to be more careful with the ball; avoiding sacks by throwing into coverage is not a good thing. I appreciate Ernest Jones IV sticking up for his teammate.
  • Rashid Shaheed is slowly getting more involved in the offense, catching a 20-yard pass off play action and it may need to be sped up a bit if Horton is out much longer. He’d have had a touchdown if not for Darnold’s underthrow/a good PBU by Emmanuel Forbes.
  • Riq Woolen got beat by Davante Adams on the slant for a touchdown. It ain’t worthy of a demerit to me. Woolen generally had another strong game and Adams’ footwork is some of the best we’ve ever seen, plus Stafford called out of a designed run to hit that throw.
  • Ty Okada’s whiff on Colby Parkinson was tough. Not one of his better moments.
  • Anthony Bradford continues to struggle to handle T-E stunts. One of those interceptions was him essentially double-teaming Braden Fiske with Abe Lucas, leaving a free rusher to force Darnold into a bad throw.
  • Cooper Kupp can’t be the WR2 long-term. All of his catches came on the touchdown drive, but otherwise he’s just not a consistent threat throughout the course of a game. It’s another reason why the Horton injury hurts so much.
  • Elijah Arroyo may have run the wrong route on Darnold’s third interception. Greg Olsen seemed adamant about it and I trust him. What I don’t believe is that it was still an open throw and a likely completion for Darnold.
  • This loss sucks. The Seahawks are still contenders to me. They should be favored to beat the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons (who may not have Michael Penix Jr moving forward) over the next three weeks. If they hold serve, they’re 10-3 and the playoffs are inevitable. Winning the division undeniably got harder by losing this game, but it’s not impossible. I’m still a believer in the defense, the offense is still functionally above-average but has to de-sloppify itself soon, otherwise they’ll keep losing close against contenders and maybe even risk suffering upset losses to inferior opposition as the weeks progress. Ultimately, Seattle is in a great place as far as the postseason. I’m not going to let this defeat drastically change my viewpoint of what the team is and what I expect them to be. If they stumble over the next three weeks? Then I might have a different opinion.

Ted’s Talk: Potential loss of Grey Zabel worse for Seahawks than loss of game vs Rams

gettyimages-2243084225.jpg

Rookie offensive lineman and first-round pick Grey Zabel has been playing like one of the best guards in the entire NFL. After getting his leg rolled up on late in the game against the Los Angeles Rams, it’s possible that we won’t see him for the rest of the season. Mike Macdonald didn’t have an update other than to say it was his knee and they were getting imaging done.

Recently activated Christian Haynes replaced Zabel and within a few plays was knocked back at least five yards into the backfield. Not ideal. Without Zabel, there will be a massive hole at LG that could jeopardize the rest of the season for the Seahawks. We saw today what can happen to Sam Darnold when he’s faced with quick pressure. Zabel’s absence will also slow down an already-hindered running game.

Oh yeah, the Seahawks lost 21-19 against the Rams with Jason Myers missing a 61-yard FG at the end of regulation that wasn’t even in the same zip code as the goal post. Seattle both deserved to lose and played well enough to win. It was a really, really weird game.

Seahawks Droppings

  • Get ready for the Sam Darnold shit-storm this week. His 4 INTs were atrocious, and will rile up those who were waiting to see him come back down to earth. Darnold has been turning the ball over way too much this season despite playing like an MVP. Seattle was winning games anyway, but that’s not going to happen against good teams. We all knew that coming in today, so it was disappointing to see the Seahawks continue to cough the ball up.
  • Mike Macdonald’s defense recovered from a few early hiccups to play pretty much lights out. They had an early red zone stand, and were faced with multiple short fields from Darnold’s picks. Still, they held Matthew Stafford to 130 yards passing. The Seahawks had no business being in the game with how Darnold was turning the ball over, but the defense actually put them in position to win the game. Seattle’s defense is for real.
  • What the hell was up with that first penalty on Devon Witherspoon? The guy made a catch, was never touched, and was going to get up off the ground to try and advance the ball. He didn’t even hit him that hard! Just a ridiculous penalty, in an otherwise pretty clean game all around.
  • Coby Bryant had a vintage Peanut Tillman-esque punch out on Puka Nacua to force a fumble after one of the Darnold INTs. He also made a huge second down tackle on the Rams last drive, screaming in from his safety spot to chop down Nacua for no gain. If the Seahawks don’t pay Bryant, someone else will.
  • For the first time, AJ Barner was stopped on his version of the tush push. It was a weird execution because they sent the guys in the backfield out wide instead of pushing Barner from behind. Don’t get cute next time, just run the play.
“Sam has had us in every fucking game. For him to say it’s on him, no it’s not. If you’ve got anything to say, fuck you.”

– Ernest Jones pic.twitter.com/XaGIKclH8y

— Brian Nemhauser (@hawkblogger) November 17, 2025
  • I love Ernest Jones IV. He is the heart and soul of this defense with Jarran Reed out and brings the attitude back to the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is going to be just fine, and is going to take out their frustrations on their next opponents.
  • It felt like the offensive line had a rough time today. Darnold wasn’t sacked, but was under pressure on just about all of his INTs and was flushed out of the pocket a few times. Seattle ran for 135 yards on only 3.9 yards per carry. If Zabel is out for an extended period of time, it’s only going to get worse.

This was a really strange game to write about. I’m really not that mad that Seattle lost…it’s more the Zabel injury that has me worried. The RG position is already a potential weak link, and adding LG to the mix as well has a chance to derail the entire offense. Even with the Darnold INTs, if Seattle just converts one of their three red zone FG drives into a TD, they win the game. I don’t expect the offense to play this poorly against the Rams next time. I do expect the defense to play well against them again. The next matchup will be different, barring a season-ending injury for Grey Zabel, that is.

Cowboys vs. Raiders ‘Monday Night Football’ live discussion: Schotty vs. Pete

imagn-11320584.jpg

This game sure looks out of place in prime time, doesn’t it? The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5-1, the Las Vegas Raiders are 2-7, and yet this is taking up national television time? Unfortunately, this couldn’t get flexed out since it’s not within the Monday Night Football flex window, but maybe it’ll be entertaining because the Cowboys and Raiders don’t exactly have great defenses.

We’ve been watching the Raiders fairly closely given Pete Carroll and Geno Smith are the head coach/quarterback combo in Vegas, and so far it’s been an abject failure with a sprinkling of disaster. That duo went 9-8 twice in Seattle but 9-8 is not happening for the Raiders this year.

On the other side of the field, the Cowboys are coached by former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. So it’s like a big ol’ Seahawks reunion considering how many ex-Seahawks are on Pete’s coaching staff and roster, not to mention Schotty on the Cowboys.

Sadly, the backdrop to this game is the fact that this is the first one for Dallas since the tragic death of Marshawn Kneeland. The remainder of this season will be played in memory of Kneeland, and the Raiders have made this classy gesture.

Seahawks work out former Lions quarterback, sign Jerry Rice’s son to practice squad

2170699662.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks have continued their roster shuffling, this time on the practice squad.

On Tuesday, the Seahawks have released cornerback Mike Reid and tight end Marshall Lang. The replacements are running back/kick returner Velus Jones Jr and wide receiver Brenden Rice, son of Seahawks legend Jerry Rice.

In total, the Seahawks worked out eight players: quarterback Hendon Hooker, wide receiver/running back Velus Jones, center Doug Kramer, and five additional wide receivers (Montorie Foster, Jaylen Johnson, Dymere Miller, Jalen Reagor, and Brenden Rice).

The workout of former Detroit Lions third-round pick Hooker is interesting as Seattle already has three quarterbacks on the active roster. Meanwhile, the recent placement of Jalen Sundell on injured reserve has left the Seahawks thin at the center position. This would make sense as to bringing in Kramer for a workout.

The plethora of wide receivers coming in for a tryout is also notable as the Seahawks are thin at that position too, with the recent injuries to Dareke Young, Jake Bobo, and Tory Horton. Both Velus Jones and Montorie Foster were with Seattle before (Jones back in October, and Foster during the offseason).

If you don’t remember, Jerry Rice ended his iconic career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2004 after being traded by the Oakland Raiders. Brenden was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 and appeared in three games, but otherwise doesn’t have an NFL catch yet.

Seahawks All-22 Review: The good and bad from Seattle’s rookies versus the Rams

imagn-27607188.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks rookies combined for 183 snaps in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams. Tory Horton’s absence impacted these numbers. It’s worth noting that the majority of these snaps, 122, were between the Seahawks’ first two picks, Grey Zabel and Nick Emmanwori.

Let’s analyze some of the key plays from this game!

Grey Zabel, Guard (74 snaps)

I usually use PFF only as a guide in terms of grades. But, according to PFF, Zabel had the worst grade in run blocking (38.9) and the seventh best grade in pass blocking (64), giving up two pressures. Regardless of these numbers, this was Zabel’s worst performance.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Needs a better hand placement

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T01:58:16.817Z

The offensive line had a big challenge against the Rams’ defensive line, but Zabel needed to do a better job. Something that catches my attention is that, as I have highlighted several times in other articles, the rookie has always shown the ability to recover from his mistakes, not repeating them in future situations.

An example of this was being beaten inside on two occasions. In the first instance, Byron Young easily gains inside leverage and forces Sam Darnold out of the pocket.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Not able to set his inside hand and loses the inside gap

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:00:02.655Z

In this play, Zabel misses his punch with his inside arm. The positioning isn’t the best; he tries to adjust, but in the meantime, the defensive lineman manages to win and pressure the quarterback.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Late to climb to second level

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:01:06.944Z

Another recurring problem was his work getting to the second level. He missed angles and at other times lacked speed. It’s worth noting that he spent the week on the injury report. This may have been a factor in this type of play.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Lack of explosion on this pull.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:01:50.963Z

Another example of a lack of explosiveness in this pull.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Great timing going to second level.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:02:42.799Z

In this play, he shows excellent processing. He helps with the double-team at the first level, identifies the linebacker, and makes the block with an excellent angle.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Great outside zone block.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:02:58.108Z

The Seahawks call an outside zone. Zabel shows good mobility to reach the defender and keep the block moving.

He executes another pull, opening space for Ken Walker’s touchdown. Unfortunately, this is the play where Zabel got injured. However, better than any play I can show of Zabel, the most positive thing is that, according to reports, he avoided a serious injury, something that seemed likely given his condition after the play. I believe he’ll miss two weeks, and that will already be a victory for us. Neither the rookie loses much development time, nor do we need to depend on Christian Haynes, Anthony Bradford’s backup.

Nick Emmanwori, Defensive Back (48 snaps)

There were 3 tackles, one pass deflected on two targets and 1 run stop.

  • 10 snaps as DL;
  • 15 in the box;
  • 2 at cornerback;
  • 21 in the slot;

On Trey McBride’s TD last week, Emmanwori at least showed carelessness in the tackle. It seems he doesn’t want to repeat the mistake, showing all his effort in that tackle that prevented the TD.

Nick Emmanwori, DB, #3Great reaction and pd

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:05:05.694Z

Very good play by him. He moves forward to defend the run, but quickly notices the play action already following the RB to the flat and makes the pass deflection.

Nick Emmanwori, DB, #3Needs improve his footwork in off coverage.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:06:23.579Z

His work in off-coverage still needs refinement. His transition seems much more robotic in this type of alignment.

Elijah Arroyo, Tight End (31 snaps)

Extremely timid game from him. Both of his targets were interceptions by Sam Darnold. Even playing 31 snaps, he didn’t manage many standout plays and still needs to improve his blocking technique.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Late to climb to second level

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:01:06.944Z

He doesn’t show up at the start of the play, but the angle to get to the second level is quite bad. This makes it easy for the defender to escape.

Good sign of improvement in his game. He comes from the other side of the formation as a lead blocker. The big positive point is that Charles Cross loses his target at the second level and Arroyo readjusts his route to make the block.

Jalen Milroe, Quarterback (0 snaps)

Inactive.

Rylie Mills, Defensive Lineman (0 snaps)

NFI List.

Tory Horton, Wide Receiver (0 snaps)

Injured for the second game in a row.

Robbie Ouzts, Fullback (19 snaps)

Robbie Ouzts , FB, #40Tough matchup against Jared Verse

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:31:19.103Z

During the game against the Cardinals, he was used several times as a kick-out block on the edge. Life wasn’t so easy against Jared Verse.

Robbie Ouzts , FB, #40Not creating impact

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:32:17.630Z

Sometimes he makes that lateral contact and fails to create the necessary separation.

Sometimes mistakes are costly. This play could have been a TD if he hadn’t missed that block.

Bryce Cabeldue, Offensive Lineman (0 snaps)

No snaps.

Mason Richman, Offensive Lineman (0 snaps)

Inactive.

Nick Kallerup, Tight End (11 snaps)

Nick Kallerup, TE, #89Taking the edge for a ride

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:33:51.255Z

He’s already establishing himself as one of the best blockers in the league. He dominates No. 53 and takes him for a walk.

Nick Kallerup, TE, #89Great block in motion

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:34:42.757Z

He comes in motion and manages to block none other than Verse for the successful run.

Nick Kallerup, TE, #89Holding nullified the TD

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-11-19T02:35:18.352Z

Second game in which he commits a hold. In this case, he nullified a TD run by Ken Walker. It wasn’t a scandalous hold, but he needs to improve this technique.

Final Thoughts

Injuries have started to affect the rookies. On the other hand, UDFA Kallerup has been gaining importance in blocking for the running game. Arroyo needs to get back to his best offensive form, and Tory Horton also has a chance to solidify his position in the “open” WR2 spot.

Seahawks-Titans Week 12 Wednesday injury report: Grey Zabel held out of practice

gettyimages-2229006481.jpg

There’s quite a hefty Seattle Seahawks injury report to go over heading into the away game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. Grey Zabel did not participate with the knee injury suffered against the Los Angeles Rams, but the prognosis is much better than it looked at the time with Mike Macdonald saying Zabel is day-to-day. Tyrice Knight (self-inflicted concussion) and Tory Horton (shin) also did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. The only other player who missed practice was Robbie Ouzts, who was gone due to a personal matter.

Coby Bryant popped up as a limited participant with a foot injury. Hopefully they’re just being overly cautious with him considering the lack of depth at that position right now with Julian Love still on IR. Mike Morris was also limited with a knee injury. The rest of the limited players were resting and not injury related.

Ernest Jones practicing fully after playing the full game the other night is great news, as it means he didn’t suffer any kind of setback and should be good to go against the Titans. Cody White (abdomen) and Nick Emmanwori (hand) were also full participants.

Zabel practiced on a limited basis on Thursday, having missed Wednesday’s practice. Mike Macdonald said Zabel was “day-to-day” after avoiding serious injury in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Even if Zabel doesn’t play Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans, the fact that he practiced in any capacity when the worst was feared a few days ago is highly encouraging.

For discouraging news, it’s looking like another missed week for Tory Horton due to his shin injury, which makes you wonder if Seattle will place him on injured reserve. Doing so would rule him out until Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams, so perhaps there was a reason Seattle didn’t IR him last week like they did with Jalen Sundell. There may also be a reason to pay attention to Robbie Ouzts not practicing for a second day in a row, having both an injury and non-injury related reason for sitting out. Linebacker Ernest Jones IV was downgraded to limited from full, but perhaps that’s precautionary more than anything.

Other than that, this is a good looking injury report, of which you can see the full Seahawks one below!

We’ll know Zabel’s game designation along with everyone else on Friday afternoon.
