Flurry of Seahawks make top 10 in first round of Pro Bowl voting results

gettyimages-2246210255.jpg

The NFL Pro Bowl voting is open, and the first voting results have been released. Typically, Seattle Seahawks fans are accustomed to seeing Seahawks players disrespected with these voting results (just look at Leonard Williams not being a Pro Bowler in 2024). However, this year with a 9-3 record, that is not the case.

As should be the case, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is in first place in the NFL for votes at wide receiver (and second in overall votes among all positions). Other top five placements include Byron Murphy II in 2nd place in votes for defensive tackles (1st in the NFC) and Grey Zabel in 3rd place in votes among guards (2nd in the NFC).

Rounding out the offense is Sam Darnold who is 10th in votes in the NFL (6th in the NFC) for quarterbacks. At Center, Olu Oluwatimi is 10th (6th in the NFC). Lastly, Robbie Ouzts is 10th in the NFL (4th in the NFC) for the fullback position. Some curious omissions on offense are offensive tackle Charles Cross and tight end AJ Barner.

On defense, for the defensive end position, Leonard Williams is 9th (5th in the NFC), while DeMarcus Lawrence is 10th (6th in the NFC). At outside linebacker, Uchenna Nwosu is 10th (5th in the NFC). Lastly, free safety Coby Bryant is 6th in the league (5th in the NFC). The Seahawks defense has been playing spectacular this year, so there are many names who could be omissions on this initial batch of results. However, the omission of linebacker Ernest Jones stands out as the worst.

Lastly, on special teams. Kicker Jason Myers is in 3rd in the NFL (2nd in the NFC). Punter Michael Dickson is in 10th (6th in the NFC). Long snapper Chris Stoll is 4th (4th in the NFC). And special teamer, Brady Russell is 4th (3rd in the NFC).

Overall, this is only the first batch of results. There is plenty of time for Seahawks fans to cast their ballots and secure as many Seahawks in the Pro Bowl as possible. Although, the players and fans alike would rather see these Seahawks playing in a different bowl game come February.

Giants vs. Patriots ‘Monday Night Football’ live discussion: A perfect 10 for the Pats?

gettyimages-2248230380.jpg

Needless to say, we’re very far removed from those two Super Bowls between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. The Giants are 2-10 and have blown five double-digit 4th quarter leads this season, while the Patriots are… dammit, they’re 10-2 just two years removed from the end of the Bill Belichick era. How nice for such a long-suffering fanbase. Looks like the Pats are back in business under Mike Vrabel, winners of nine in a row and in pole position to win the AFC East.

Is Drake Maye the true successor to Tom Brady? We don’t know yet, but he’s in the MVP discussion this season with his strong campaign. The Giants are hoping that Jaxson Dart can go a game without an injury concern, having missed the past couple of weeks with a concussion. Dart has been exciting to watch when he’s played, and frankly the Giants have played in a lot of chaotic games this year despite what their record may indicate.

Snap Reactions: Bryce Cabeldue dominates Vikings

gettyimages-2249243923.jpg

Sunday the Seattle Seahawks handily defeated the Minnesota Vikings in a game where the defense dominated and the offense showed up enough to come away victorious.

Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores spent the day toying with the Seattle offensive line, confusing the group with simulated pressures and defenders who started the play on the line of scrimmage only to drop into coverage after baiting an offensive lineman to commit to blocking what would shortly be nobody.

While the offense sputtered to the tune of just 219 yards for the game, there was no urgent need to score more against a Vikings offense led by Max Brosmer, who posted one of the worst quarterback games this millennium by efficiency standards.

At the skill positions, Ken Walker finally outsnapped Zach Charbonnet at running back, while at receiver it continued to be Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp as the top two options, even in light of the recent acquisition of Rashid Shaheed and Cody White’s promotion from the practice squad.

For those who have spent the past two plus seasons yearning for more Jake Bobo opportunities, it appears as though that ship may have sailed, as Bobo was a healthy scratch for the second week in a row after having not appeared on the injury report in the lead up to the Week 13 game. And, of course, it was once again the Bryce Cabeldue show on offense, with Cabeldue’s three snaps once again propelling the Seahawks to a double-digit victory.

Screenshot-2025-12-02-064937.png

On defense, Ty Okada played all but two snaps against Minnesota in spite of the oblique injury suffered in Week 12, but several other key defensive players earned a bit of a rest. Leonard Williams played just over half of the defensive snaps, while DeMarcus Lawrence was on the field for just 20 snaps.

Screenshot-2025-12-02-065016.png

Because of the margin of victory, the Seahawks were able to give plenty of late game snaps to players who typically see the field only on special teams. That meant that the only non-specialists who played exclusively on special teams were Velus Jones and Quandre Diggs, the two practice squad elevations who were brought up for the game.

And now it’s on to another cross-country trip in Week 14 and an early kickoff against the Atlanta Falcons.

Seahawks add special teamer in practice squad shuffle

gettyimages-2229861488.jpg

Fresh off their first shutout in decade, a 26-0 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks are set to begin preparations for another trip to the Eastern Time Zone to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14.

A part of the weekly preparations for the Seahawks this season has been the roster movement of the practice squad, and this week is no different, with a pair of transactions announced Tuesday afternoon.

Today's @Seahawks roster moves:https://t.co/s7pHewnQfT

— Seahawks PR (@seahawksPR) December 2, 2025

So, the Seahawks waived running back Myles Gaskin after just a single game on the 53-man roster, while the team freed up a pair of spots on the practice squad by moving on from wide receiver Brenden Rice and center Doug Kramer.

With two open spots on the practice squad, it seems almost certain that Gaskin will be signed to fill one of those spots, with outside linebacker Ja’Markis Weston being signed to fill the other spot. An undrafted free agent out of Florida, Weston signed with the Jets in the spring and played 56 special teams snaps during a three game stretch on the active roster. With so many key members of the Seattle special teams suffering injuries in recent weeks, it should come as no surprise that the team has made a move to address depth for special teams, and in doing so adding potential upside for 2026.

Seahawks Reacts Survey, Week 14: Will Kenneth Walker get to 1,000 rushing yards?

imagn-27663967.jpg

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seahawks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

It’s Seahawks Reacts time!

As usual, we lead with the confidence question. How confident are you in the direction of the Seahawks franchise? It’s been in the 90+ percent for almost the entire season, and I can’t imagine a 26-0 shutout win in which the Seahawks pulled even with the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West race is going to lower the current 97 percent mark.

Next up is the return of the score margin prediction. Seattle is favored comfortably to beat the 4-8 Atlanta Falcons, but will it really be that easy? After all, Seattle didn’t cover the massive two-touchdown spread against the Tennessee Titans. As usual, your choices are 1-8 pts and 9+ pts for either team.

Our main question of the week is focused on Kenneth Walker. Yes, Kenneth Walker. For all of the talk about his durability, his decision making in terms of cutbacks and bouncing to the outside, and whether he should even be the number one back over Zach Charbonnet, K9 has had a good season on low volume. Believe it or not, he’s 17th in rushing yards and just six back of Saquon Barkley. His 4.6 yards per carry is above the league average of 4.3, and on this fumble prone team he has yet to fumble on the season.

At 734 yards, Walker only needs 266 to reach 1,000 yards for the first time since his rookie season. I know that 1,000-yard seasons aren’t super special (even less so in 17-game seasons), but considering the league-wide decline of run-heavy offenses and the fact that Walker isn’t even getting a workload befitting of a true RB1, I think this would be a significant accomplishment.

266 over five games is just about 53 yards per game, which shouldn’t be too difficult for Walker to manage, but there have been days where Walker was a non-factor either due to low yards per carry or getting an early rest due to blowout city (see: Washington Commanders). On paper, he should reach it, but there will be concern over carries split and whether or not the injury bug will hit him at the worst possible time.

Anyway, vote now!

Come back this weekend for the full results!

Seahawks-Falcons Wednesday injury report: Julian Love limited in return to practice

imagn-27213853.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks’ first injury report for their Week 14 game with the Atlanta Falcons is long but a bit deceiving in terms of severity.

A total of 14 players were listed for Wednesday’s practice as either limited, full, or a non-participant. Leonard Williams was the lone DNP, but he’s been given a veteran rest day. Ernest Jones and Jaxon Smith-Njigba were limited while considered resting players, whereas Drew Lock was limited due to a personal matter.

Of the three players designated for return to practice while on injured reserve, only Julian Love was a limited participant due to his hamstring injury. Dareke Young and Jarran Reed were both full-go, so perhaps we’ll see at least one of them activated off of IR later this week. Love, Young, and Reed have a 21-day window (starting with today’s practice) to come off IR or stay on it for the rest of the season.

Josh Jobe is noticeably not even on here, having cleared concussion protocol following Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. Anthony Bradford is also a full participant after dinging his elbow in the Vikes game.

Here’s the full injury report:

Everyone is back at it on Thursday, with game designations to come on Friday.

Why the Seahawks can’t bring everyone back from injured reserve

imagn-27548734.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks are getting healthier, having designated safety Julian Love, defensive tackle Jarran Reed, and wide receiver/returner Dareke Young for return to practice on Wednesday. All of these players have spent at least the past month on injured reserve, and will have 21 days from Wednesday to go from IR to the active roster or else their season is over.

Seattle has already brought Robbie Ouzts and Christian Haynes back from IR, which is an important thing to note when you consider how many players they currently have on some injury list:

Seattle Seahawks on injured reserve who are eligible to return

  • RB George Holani – Eligible to return in Week 17
  • WR Dareke Young (returned to practice)
  • WR Tory Horton – Eligible to return in Week 16
  • TE Eric Saubert – Eligible to return since Week 13
  • OL Jalen Sundell – Eligible to return in Week 15
  • DL Jarran Reed (returned to practice)
  • LB Chazz Surratt – Eligible to return in Week 17
  • S Julian Love (returned to practice)
  • DL Rylie Mills (Non-Football Injury, returned to practice)

The Seahawks have two players back from IR and another nine who could come back this regular season.

There’s one problem: it’s not possible for Seattle to activate them all.

NFL’s injured list return designation rules

Per NFL rules, a maximum of eight designations for return from an injured list allowed during the regular season. If a team makes the playoffs, they are granted an additional two postseason slots for a maximum of 10. It is possible for one player to be activated twice in this instance, but it’d be two slots lost.

It doesn’t take a math genius to figure out that Seattle has more IR players who can return than there are available spots.

Mills is in his final week of practice before the team has to decide whether he’ll get to play this year or if this will be a rookie redshirt, in which case his contract will toll over. Surratt’s ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans looked not good, so it’s possible that the special teams standout may be out longer than the four-week minimum. Holani’s hamstring injury was never given any sort of severity specification from Mike Macdonald, but if it’s anything close to what Julian Love experienced, he may be out for awhile.

Eric Saubert is an interesting name to watch, if only for undrafted rookie Nick Kallerup filling his blocking tight end role adequately. He could’ve returned last week and did not, and he wasn’t activated for practice this week.

Lastly, Tory Horton can come back for the Los Angeles Rams rematch, although a short week would impact his practices, which would essentially be walk-through sessions. We’ll hopefully know more soon about the dynamic rookie receiver.

One thing that is clear is Seattle will have to be mindful of its IR usage for the remainder of the regular season. It’s likely that Young, Reed, and Love will all be back on the active roster soon, which leaves only three regular season spots left for injured Seahawks the rest of the way.

NFC Playoff Picture: Lions win pushes back how early Seahawks can clinch playoff spot

imagn-27742458.jpg

The Detroit Lions gave the Dallas Cowboys 44 reasons to start thinking about the offseason, winning 44-30 on Thursday Night Football to send Brian Schottenheimer’s team to 6-6-1 and with less than a 10 percent chance to make the playoffs. Detroit has effectively saved itself by improving to 8-5, albeit unable to get into a playoff spot no matter what happens in Week 14.

What the Detroit Lions win means for the Seattle Seahawks

As was discussed earlier in the week, the Seahawks could’ve clinched a playoff berth as soon as Week 15 if certain results broke their way. This included the Cowboys beating the Lions, but that’s already gone by the wayside. Detroit losing twice + the Cowboys beating the Lions but losing to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 + the Seattle Seahawks winning versus the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts would’ve been the golden ticket to the postseason.

While the Cowboys loss means the Seahawks are two wins (or a win and another Cowboys loss) away from leaving Dallas out of sight, it does mean Seattle still has to be watchful of the Lions in case of any slip-ups that drag them further away from the NFC West race and toward Wild Card scrapping.

NFC playoff standings

  1. Chicago Bears: 9-3
  2. Los Angeles Rams: 9-3
  3. Philadelphia Eagles: 8-4
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 7-5
  5. Seattle Seahawks: 9-3
  6. Green Bay Packers: 8-3-1
  7. San Francisco 49ers: 9-4
  8. Detroit Lions: 8-5
  9. Carolina Panthers: 7-6
  10. Dallas Cowboys: 6-6-1
  11. Atlanta Falcons: 4-8
  12. Minnesota Vikings: 4-8

There is no reason for the Seahawks to pay attention to the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card chase, as Carolina winning out would be enough for them to win the NFC South. If the Seahawks win their next two games and the Detroit Lions lose to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15, Seattle still could be caught by the Lions on the NFC record tiebreaker.

What Thursday’s result just did was up the stakes for the Seahawks vs. Rams. Not only is it potentially for first place, if not the No. 1 seed in the NFC, it could be a playoff-clinching win for Seattle. Week 16 is now the new earliest point for the Seahawks to punch their postseason ticket.

Meanwhile, it’d sure be cool if the Lions saved some of those points for next week…

Falcons top receiver Drake London ruled out for Seahawks game

imagn-19118013.jpg

We’re still a couple of hours away from finding out the game designations for the Seattle Seahawks against the Atlanta Falcons, but in the meantime we already know the Falcons will be without their best wide receiver this Sunday.

Drake London will miss his third straight game with a PCL sprain, which is a big blow to a very thin Falcons receiving group. London leads the team across the board in receptions (60), receiving yards (810), and touchdowns (6).

Without London, Atlanta’s next leading wide receiver is Darnell Mooney with 21 catches for 323 yards and a touchdown. No other Falcons receivers have double digit receptions on the year, which is absolutely astonishing. Tight end Kyle Pitts has 56 catches and running back Bijan Robinson is not too far behind with 54. Mooney, David Sills V, Casey Washington, and Dylan Drummond would presumably be Atlanta’s next up at the position.

Atlanta’s defense, which has a much improved pass rush, will also be without defensive lineman and team sack-leader Brandon Dorlus, and rookie edge rusher James Pearce Jr, whom Atlanta got at the expense of sending its 2026 first-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams, is a late addition to the injury report with a back issue.

The Falcons have ruled WR Drake London (knee) and DL Brandon Dorlus (groin) OUT vs. Seattle.

EDGE James Pearce Jr. was also added to the injury report with a back injury. He is QUESTIONABLE for Sunday's game.

— Tori McElhaney (@tori_mcelhaney) December 5, 2025

The Falcons are 4-8 and a loss to the Seahawks would officially eliminate Atlanta from postseason contention, a disappointing end to a season with high expectations.

Atlanta will once again start Kirk Cousins at quarterback following the season-ending injury to Michael Penix Jr.

Reinforcements have arrived: Seahawks activate Julian Love and Jarran Reed for Falcons game

gettyimages-2234174019.jpg

For the first time since the first defensive series of the season, the Seattle Seahawks will be fully healthy and ready to roll.

On Saturday, the Seahawks activated Pro Bowl safety Julian Love and the wildly underrated defensive tackle Jarran Reed from injured reserve.

With the waiving of Myles Gaskin (was re-signed to the practice squad) and Quinton Bohanna (claimed by the Green Bay Packers), no other corresponding moves were needed with the open roster spots.

The Seahawks have been without Reed for four games and Love, who was arguably their best defensive player before the season started, for nine games. Even without their abilities, the Seahawks are still 9-3, and have the 3rd ranked scoring defense.

Now, you are adding Reed back to what is the best defensive tackle room in the NFL, a group that is 2nd in rush defense and fourth in sacks. While Coby Bryant, Ty Okada, and Nick Emmanwori have been fantastic in the secondary this season (Seattle is tied for 2nd in interceptions), a healthy Love is the best player in the group and seeing him paired with an ascending Emmanwori could be special.

As they chase the NFC West title, and likely the top seed in the conference, having the defense fully back and this healthy, for the final five game stretch, is rare in the NFL. We could see Mike Macdonald’s defense hit a whole another level as the Seahawks chase the division title.

In other news, Seattle elevated practice squad running back/kick returner Velus Jones Jr to the game day roster. Jones was also elevated last week against the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Week 14 Seattle Seahawks playoff rooting guide

gettyimages-2191708810.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks are looking not just to return to the playoffs, but also get the No. 1 seed in the NFC. While the Seahawks have to do their part by continuing to win in a highly competitive conference, any outside help is greatly appreciate. This is why we’re giving you what is otherwise a fairly simple rooting guide for this weekend’s games.

NFC playoff picture as of Cowboys-Lions, Week 14

Division Leaders

1.) Chicago Bears: 9-3

2.) Los Angeles Rams: 9-3

3.) Philadelphia Eagles: 8-4

4.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 7-5

Wild Card

5.) Seattle Seahawks: 9-3

6.) Green Bay Packers: 8-3-1

7.) San Francisco 49ers: 9-4

8.) Detroit Lions: 8-5

9.) Carolina Panthers: 7-6

10.) Dallas Cowboys: 6-6-1

11.) Atlanta Falcons: 4-8

12.) Minnesota Vikings: 4-8

Which teams should Seattle Seahawks root for in Week 14?

Green Bay Packers over Chicago Bears

This is the featured late game on FOX after the Seahawks play the Falcons. A Green Bay win would bump the Bears out of the No. 1 seed and actually out of the division lead behind their hated rivals. Seattle cannot win out and win the No. 1 seed; they need a Chicago loss to clear the path for that coveted top spot. The Packers are at home and will be favored to win.

Arizona Cardinals over Los Angeles Rams

This is probably not happening. The already eliminated Arizona Cardinals won’t have Marvin Harrison Jr and a host of other regular contributors due to injury. The Rams might have stumbled against the Carolina Panthers but the Cardinals have absolutely cratered in their last two divisional games.

A surprise Cardinals win would, of course, open the door for the Seahawks to take full possession of first place in the NFC West with a win over Atlanta. If Seattle somehow loses, then a Cardinals win would be like a lifeline thrown after jumping into the deep end of the pool.

Los Angeles Chargers over Philadelphia Eagles (Monday)

Having another loss in the column for the Eagles increases the chance of the Seahawks having at least a top two seed by winning the NFC West. Philadelphia is 8-4 and a game behind Seattle in terms of win-loss, but the Eagles play in the weak NFC East and the Seahawks are in a division in which two other teams also have nine wins.

Go Packers, go Cards, and go Chargers!

Colts quarterback Daniel Jones tears Achilles right before Seahawks game

gettyimages-2250563218.jpg

Ripe off of a win against an Atlanta Falcons team who already lost their starting quarterback to a season-ending injury, the Seahawks will be facing a similar situation next week.

Daniel Jones has been putting together a shocking, late bloom season with the Indianapolis Colts. He is one of only nine QB’s coming into Week 14 with a QB Rating above 100 (101.3) and is a prime candidate for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award. That feel-good story is coming to an end.

Already playing through a fractured left fibula, Jones reportedly tore his Achilles, which would obviously end his season, and it’s an injury that could affect him into next year. This is especially rough for Colts fans, as the organization had just sent two first-round picks over to the New York Jets to go all-in on Sauce Gardner, Daniel Jones and this current Indianapolis team.

It is yet to be seen if the Colts will roll with sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard against the Seahawks in Week 15, or if embattled and injured Anthony Richardson can be activated from IR ahead of the game. Either way, Indy may be forced to lean on a run-heavy approach as they fight to hang onto the cusp of the AFC playoff picture.

I am praying Daniel Jones injury is nothing serious, he has gone through so much. He revived his career as the Quarterback of the Colts.

Really heartbreaking to see.

Eagles vs. Chargers ‘Monday Night Football’ live discussion

imagn-17117348.jpg

In the words of former California governor and Kindergarten Cop actor Arnold Schwarzenegger…

The Philadelphia Eagles are 8-4 and 1.5 back of the Seattle Seahawks for the best record in the NFC. A loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night would really clear the way for the No. 1 seed race to essentially be between whoever wins the NFC West and whoever wins the NFC North.

Also, a Chargers win puts the Kansas City Chiefs one step closer to playoff elimination, and if you’ve been begging for the Chiefs dynasty to end, this is one way to put them on the cusp of booking tee times and not Super Bowl hotels.

Let’s have some fun! And apparently there’s some Monsters, Inc. adaptation of this game on ESPN2 if you want an alternate broadcast, I guess. I loved the hell out of the movie as a kid.

Anyway, 5:15 pm PT on ABC and ESPN and ESPN2. Join us in the comments!

Seahawks injury updates: Jalen Sundell returning to practice, Elijah Arroyo could miss time

imagn-27213966.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks are slowly but surely getting some key guys back from injured reserve, and this week should see the return of their starting center.

Mike Macdonald told reporters on Monday that Jalen Sundell is set to practice this week, having missed the minimum four games while on IR with a knee injury. Sundell was replaced by Olu Oluwatimi, whose own injury issues during training camp might have been a factor in Sundell winning the starting center job.

It should be noted that Sundell received snaps at right guard in training camp and preseason. Anthony Bradford has had his ups and downs throughout his season and career, but his pass blocking has been very sturdy in recent weeks.

If not right guard in lieu of Bradford, would Sundell replace Oluwatimi and become the starting center again? Macdonald wouldn’t give any definitive answer on plans for Sundell.

“We’ll see,” Macdonald said.

Meanwhile, it’s a different story for tight end Elijah Arroyo. He left Seattle’s 37-9 win over the Atlanta Falcons with a knee injury after he was targeted on Sam Darnold’s interception.

Elijah Arroyo never returned to the game after the Sam Darnold interception. Had a knee injury. Even his route looked a little off. pic.twitter.com/gvMQgwnInl

— Mookie Alexander (@mookiealexander) December 8, 2025

“Elijah’s got a knee,” Macdonald said. “Just working through it right now, but I’d say this week’s probably in jeopardy for him.”

Arroyo has appeared in every game this season but the second-round rookie has just two catches over the last five weeks. If Arroyo can’t go against the Indianapolis Colts, the Seahawks would likely depend on Brady Russell and Nick Kallerup as backups to A.J. Barner. Eric Saubert is still on IR even though he could’ve been designated for return to practice by now.

Seahawks change in free agency strategy has paid off

gettyimages-2246078218.jpg

When free agency opened in March, Seahawks Seahawks general manager John Schneider went on an uncharacteristic spending spree on outside free agents, a change in strategy compared to the past decade.

And that change has paid off well for the team.

Specifically, for more than a decade under the direction of Pete Carroll, Schneider and the Seahawks had stayed away from spending big money on multi-year contracts for outside free agents. Multi-year deals had been saved for their own free agents, with players signed from other teams traditionally joining the Seahawks on one-year contracts.

However, in 2025 the Seahawks signed fewer free agents to contracts for a single season and a salary of greater than $2M than they had in any year since 2016.

Free-Agents.webp

There’s really no need to rehash exactly how bad the 2024 outside free agent class wound up performing for Seattle, and as such a simple list of the players added should suffice for most:

  • George Fant
  • Rayshawn Jenkins
  • Jerome Baker
  • Tyrel Dodson
  • Laken Tomlinson
  • Pharaoh Brown
  • Nick Harris
  • Johnathan Hankins
  • K’Von Wallace
  • Laviska Shenault

Of the players on that list, the one who made the biggest impact was Jerome Baker, though that contribution comes from his inclusion in the traded that brought Ernest Jones from the Tennessee Titans, rather than for any of his on-field performances for the Seahawks.

On the flip side, as noted here on Field Gulls in April, the number of outside free agents signed to contracts of three years in length or greater over the past ten offseasons is as follows:

  • 2015: 1 (Cary Williams)
  • 2016: 0
  • 2017: 0
  • 2018: 1 (Ed Dickson)
  • 2019: 1 (Jason Myers)
  • 2020: 0
  • 2021: 0
  • 2022: 0
  • 2023: 1 (Dre’Mont Jones)
  • 2024: 0
  • 2025: 3 (Demarcus Lawrence, Cooper Kupp and Sam Darnold)

Long story short, over the prior decade the Seahawks signed four outside free agents to contracts of three years or more, before signing signing three outside free agents to such contracts during the 2025 offseason alone.

The results have been telling.

Digging right to the heart of the matter, the reality of the situation is that players who sign one-year contracts in free agency do so for a reason. Perhaps it is because they aren’t talented enough, aren’t healthy enough or aren’t young enough, there is some reason why they would sign a one-year contract rather than a lucrative long-term deal.

In contrast, players who are able to command multi-year contracts tend to be those players who happen to be better at what it is that they do, to the point that there are multiple teams willing to give them contracts. This provides them with the leverage to sign for an amount that makes the salary cap worrywarts fret, but in an age of a rapidly growing cap and exploding salaries, all three of the contracts are middle class deals for the positions.

With that in mind, the three outside free agents the Seahawks added to multi-year contracts during the offseason signed for below top of market for one reason or another. For Sam Darnold, it was the fact that he had posted just a single season of high-level play in seven NFL seasons, while age and injury history combined to limit the markets for both Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Lawrence.

In spite of some having expressed concerns about the size of the contracts handed to the trio at the time of signings, Darnold and Lawrence have unquestionably played at a level that justifies their deals. Further, while many may lament that Kupp’s best days are most certainly in the past, he has posed enough of a threat to help open things up for other receiving threats by generating just enough production to command some attention from defenses.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, all three are under contract for 2026. That, of course, means Schneider and Mike Macdonald won’t need to sift through free agency trying to figure out how to fill certain roles next season because those roles were addressed on moderate deals that won’t tank the salary cap in free agency in 2025.

Seahawks All-22 film review: The good and bad from Seattle’s rookies vs. Falcons

imagn-27767245.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks rookies combined for 181 snaps in Week 14 against the Atlanta Falcons. Elijah Arroyo exited early with fewer than 10 offensive snaps, while the undrafted Nick Kallerup logged his second-highest workload of the season. Grey Zabel played every offensive snap, and Nick Emmanwori finished second on the team in defensive snaps.

Let’s dive into some of the most important rookie moments from Sunday.

Grey Zabel — Offensive Guard (61 snaps)

I haven’t agreed much with PFF’s grading this year — including their grades on Zabel — but this was the rookie’s best pass-blocking grade (82.5) and his second-best run-blocking mark (66.5). With this performance, he now has five games without allowing a single pressure.

Grey Zabel, LG, #76Great work against bull rush

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-12-10T02:44:54.401Z

The start of the rep isn’t ideal. Zabel gets driven back early, but he shows strong technique to absorb the power move. He resets with short, controlled hops to re-establish his base.

Even from a poor angle view, you can see his hand placement anchoring the rep and keeping the pocket clean.

His stunt recognition is textbook. Great lateral mobility, smooth pass-off to the tackle, and immediate pickup of the looper — no wasted steps, no wasted movement.

Nick Emmanwori — Defensive Back (58 snaps)

A monster outing: 6 tackles, 3 run stops, 1 sack, and a blocked field goal. In coverage, he allowed 2 catches on 3 targets for 51 yards and grabbed his first career interception.

Alignment breakdown:

  • 10 snaps on the DL;
  • 19 in the box;
  • 29 in the slot;
Nick Emmanawori, DB, #3Little late in his transition

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-12-10T02:47:02.964Z

This was essentially his only bad rep of the day. He’s still adjusting to situations where he can’t get hands on the receiver at the line, making his transition slightly slower. Even then, he stays tight, but loses some contact when looking back for the ball. Credit to the TE and QB for a well-executed throw.

Emmanwori came close to blocking a kick earlier this year — this time he got it. The timing was massive: it happened in the drive immediately after Sam Darnold’s interception, essentially erasing the turnover’s impact.

His first interception comes from keeping his eyes locked on the quarterback. He processes the route passing into the safety’s zone and is ready when Devon Witherspoon tips the ball — a fantastic play by the corner.

The sack highlights his burst. With fewer false steps now showing up in his game, he’s exploding into the pocket faster. Tyrice Knight deserves an unofficial “assist” here, forcing the guard inside and occupying the RB to free Emmanwori’s lane.

Nick Emmanwori, DB, #3Tape study here. Emmanwori adjust his path to make the tackle

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-12-10T02:49:42.573Z

Another snap showcases his feel and processing growth. He recognizes the block on the NT (#95) and adjusts his path to make the tackle.

On the motion play, his alignment shifts and the Falcons’ offensive line fails to adjust — allowing his athleticism to take over again.

Elijah Arroyo — Tight End (7 snaps)

Arroyo ran six routes, saw one target, and it resulted in an interception. His production is far below what you’d expect from a second-round pick. To make matters worse, he was injured on the play and didn’t return.

The team indicated a knee injury. As of this writing, there’s no further update — but it’s worth remembering Arroyo had knee issues during the pre-draft process.

Elijah Arroyo, TE, #18The 4th pass on his direction that results on INT.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-12-10T02:52:35.786Z

He tries to sell a vertical route for separation, but AJ Terrell mirrors him perfectly and breaks up the pass — a ball that shouldn’t have been thrown — leading to the interception. It’s the fourth recent target to Arroyo that has ended in a turnover.

Jalen Milroe — Quarterback (0 snaps)

Inactive.

Rylie Mills — Defensive Lineman (0 snaps)

NFI list.

Tory Horton — Wide Receiver (0 snaps)

IR.

Robbie Ouzts — Fullback (18 snaps)

Limited impact in the run game and committed a holding penalty that wiped out a strong Ken Walker run — another rookie mistake.

Bryce Cabeldue — Offensive Lineman (8 snaps)

Minimal action.

Mason Richman — Offensive Lineman (0 snaps)

Inactive.

Nick Kallerup — Tight End (29 snaps)

Physical and aggressive as a blocker. His snap count rose after Arroyo’s injury. The big question remains whether he’ll offer anything as a receiver or profile strictly as a blocking tight end.

Nick Kallerup, TE, #89Great block on the EDGE.

(@alexcastrofilho.bsky.social) 2025-12-10T02:53:30.907Z

Final Thoughts

Nick Emmanwori likely delivered the best rookie performance by a Seahawk this season, and he’s now firmly in the race for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Sportsbook (including FanDuel) currently have him second behind Carson Schwesinger.

Arroyo’s injury is something to monitor. His offensive impact hasn’t been positive, and this setback could make things even more complicated moving forward.

Seahawks-Colts Wednesday injury report: Elijah Arroyo held out of practice

gettyimages-2240616934.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks’ injury luck appears to be continuing with the release of the first injury report for their Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

While the list appears quite long, with 15 players making it, only tight end Elijah Arroyo did not participate in Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury, which has left him “day to day,” according to Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. A third of the list, including star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and edge rusher Demarcus Lawrence, were limited for rest.

The Seahawks look poised to get back starting center Jalen Sundell and backup tight end Eric Saubert, both of whom were designated for return to practice on Wednesday. Both were limited participants, with Sundell rehabbing a knee injury that has kept him out of the last four games, while Saubert is working through a calf injury that’s kept him out of the last six contests.

After returning to the lineup last week, safety Julian Love was limited while he works through the hamstring issue that has kept him sidelined for much of the 2025 season. Safety Ty Okada was limited and appears to now be dealing with a shoulder injury in addition to his oblique injury that he’s been playing through since Week 12.

Here is the full report:

seahawksweek15injuryreport2025.png

Game designations will come out on Friday as the Seahawks prepare to play host to the injury-riddled Colts.

On the Colts’ side, Riley Leonard was a full practice participant, although Indy may still yet start the 44-year-old Philip Rivers at quarterback.

NFC Playoff Picture: How the Seahawks can clinch the No. 1 seed before Week 18

gettyimages-2248434139.jpg

The Seattle Seahawks cannot clinch a playoff berth this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but they can be the undisputed top of the NFC by the end of Week 17.

However unlikely it may be, there is a reasonable path to the No. 1 seed for the Seahawks that involves them (obviously) winning their next three games, as well as major outside help from other teams that would give the Seahawks an unassailable lead heading into Week 18. I wouldn’t consider this getting too far ahead, but instead laying out plausible ways for things to break Seattle’s way. Also, there are still ways the Seahawks can miss the playoffs right now and even if they improve to 11-3 by Sunday, but that only serves to induce panic.

Before we get to the scenario, let’s review the current NFC playoff picture.

NFC Playoff Standings entering Week 15

  1. Los Angeles Rams: 10-3
  2. Green Bay Packers: 9-3-1
  3. Philadelphia Eagles: 8-5
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 7-6
  5. Seattle Seahawks: 10-3
  6. Chicago Bears: 9-4
  7. San Francisco 49ers: 9-4
  8. Detroit Lions: 8-5
  9. Carolina Panthers: 7-6
  10. Dallas Cowboys: 6-6-1
  11. Minnesota Vikings: 5-8

The Rams are only ahead of the Seahawks on the head-to-head tiebreaker, otherwise Seattle would have that top spot. Right on Seattle’s heels within the NFC West are the San Francisco 49ers at 9-4, so let’s not pretend they’re an afterthought. The Detroit Lions are the best non-Wild Card team at 8-5, and they are a key part of this Seahawks No. 1 seed scenario.

What the Seattle Seahawks need for the No. 1 seed at the end of Week 17

  • The Seahawks must win their next three games against the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, and Carolina Panthers, AND;
  • The Los Angeles Rams must lose to either the Detroit Lions (Week 15) or Atlanta Falcons (Week 17), AND;
  • The San Francisco 49ers must lose one of their next three games against the Tennessee Titans (Week 15), Indianapolis Colts (Week 16), or Chicago Bears (Week 17), AND;
  • The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers must both lose once over the next three games.

If all of these things happen, the Seahawks would be 13-3 and at least two up in the win column over the Rams, 49ers, Bears, and Packers, which would wrap up the No. 1 seed a week early. However, a couple of these outcomes affect one another (e.g. Bears and 49ers needing to lose once, but they play each other in Week 17), and there are some games like 49ers vs. Titans where there’s almost no shot of an upset. Nevertheless, this is the practical Week 15 rooting guide I’ve devised for any No. 1 seed supporters:

Week 15 Seahawks playoff rooting guide

  • Seahawks over Colts
  • Browns over Bears
  • Titans over 49ers
  • Lions over Rams
  • Broncos over Packers
  • Bonus: Raiders over Eagles (would eliminate the Eagles from the No. 1 seed race with Seahawks win)

The most realistic No. 1 seed path for the Seahawks

  • Seahawks over Colts, Rams, and Panthers (Wks 15-17)
  • Lions over Rams (Wk 15)
  • Broncos over Packers (Wk 15)
  • Packers over Bears (Wk 16)
  • Bears over 49ers (Wk 17)

So there you have it! This is probably not going to happen, but don’t let that stop you from dreaming. If the Seahawks lose at any point along the way I think you can kiss the top seed goodbye, but for the time being let’s live a little.

Go ‘Hawks!
