Tampa Bay Lightning reduce roster by 22 players

With Syracuse opening up their training camp this week, and the need to figure out exactly who will make the final roster, the Tampa Bay Lightning reduced their training camp roster by 22 players. That leaves 32 players in camp with less than two weeks until opening night. There really weren’t any surprises on who was sent down. Expect all four players on waivers to clear.

Lightning Morning News: Game Day in Orlando

After a couple of days of practice, and a healthy roster adjustment, the Tampa Bay Lightning are back on the ice tonight for their annual pre-season game in Orlando. Their opponent will be the other Florida-based team. The reigning, defending, undisputed Stanley Cup Champion – the Florida Panthers. Get ready for a healthy dose of in-state hockey as the two teams will go head-to-head three times…

Lightning pick up another victory, 3-2

If nothing else, the pre-season version of the Tampa Bay Lightning are showing themselves to be a team that can grind out victories. Heading into the third period with a 3-1 win on the backs of goals from Oliver Bjorkstrand (power play), Conor Geekie, and Jakob Pelletier, they stumbled, allowing a tally from Ryan McAllister, before shutting things down to pick up their fifth victory.

Roster battles become clearer as Lightning reduce training camp roster by seven

As the calendar turns to October, time is getting short for the Tampa Bay Lightning to finalize their 2025-26 roster. They took another step towards clarity as they reduced the training camp roster by seven players on Wednesday, leaving 26 in camp. With the moves, some finalists have emerged for the final spots for opening night. Duke, Sabourin, Schmidt and Abruzzese aren’t much of a…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #11 Ethan Czata

There is no such thing as a universally beloved prospect in any team’s organization, but a whole lot of folks in the Tampa Bay Lightning ecosystem seem to love Ethan Czata. In case you are wondering how Ethan Czata is dealing with his return to the OHL after spending a few weeks at the NHL level, well, he has 5 points in 2 games with the Niagara IceDogs. So…

Lightning claim Pheonix Copley off of waivers

Let’s get the good news out of the way first. All of the players that the Tampa Bay Lightning put on waivers on Wednesday cleared. Nick Abruzzese, Boris Katchouk, and Jakob Pelletier were all assigned to the Syracuse Crunch on Thursday. So, the waivers monster didn’t claim any victims from the Lightning. In fact, it was just the opposite as general manager Julien BriseBois claimed goaltender…

By definition, that was a hockey game last night

The Lightning beat the Panthers 5-2 last night, picking up another pre-season victory. With a line-up that resembled what we’ll see on opening night (for the most part) the Lightning literally fought back from an early deficit to pick up the win. It was…not a great night to evaluate 5v5 play. The penalties started early and rolled all throughout the night as the teams finished with a combined 186…

Lightning hit with multiple fines after final pre-season contest with Panthers

The NHL didn’t wait long to start handing out supplemental discipline after the penalty-filled affair between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers on Saturday night. After both teams racked up 322 penalty minutes in a game that featured multiple fights and several ugly hits along the boards, it’s no surprise that the league felt the need to hand out some additional fines and possible…

Lightning wrap up preseason with a penalty-filled loss

Much like Thursday’s tilt between these two teams, there wasn’t much hockey played. With 312 penalty minutes between the two teams, all they could really work on was their special teams. To their credit the Lightning, who were the aggressor most of the night, killed off 13 power plays. Florida still managed to score six times with an extra skater in their 7-0 victory. It was just that kind of…

Your 2025-26 Tampa Bay Lightning Roster

Here is the official roster for your Tampa Bay Lightning roster (or at least how they submitted it to the league). There is always the chance the Bolts tweak things a little before they line-up against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, especially if J.J. Moser gets slapped with a suspension (spoiler, he did). On Monday the Bolts sent Dylan Duke, Dominic James, Boris Katchouk, Scott Sabourin…

Scott Sabourin suspended 4 games by the NHL, J.J. Moser 2 games, Lightning fined

The first ban-hammer from the NHL Department of Player Safety has been swung, and swung hard. Tampa Bay Lightning/Syracuse Crunch forward Scott Sabourin has been suspended for four games by DoPS for his actions in the Lightning’s fight-filled affair against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night. Okay. There is a little bit to unpack in this video.

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #10 Maxim Groshev

Max Groshev, more like Max Chaos. The young winger converted to defense last season to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a type of player they really don’t have in their system. What Maxim Groshev is trying to do is not easy. Plenty of hockey players have moved from offense to defense at lower stages in their career, but to try it at the second-best level of hockey…

The 2025-26 Tampa Bay Lightning and NHL predictions post

Gather round all you Lightning faithful. For it is time to make up some season-long predictions about our favorite hockey team. Will we hold ourselves accountable for these bold guesses at future events? Sure, in so much that we’ll write a follow-up post in the summer laughing at how bad we did (future content!). If anyone has been around these parts for a few years, you will know that I…

Checking in on some former Bolts

With the NHL season officially under way, it’s time to look back and see where some old friends ended up now that the rosters have been finalized. It was a summer of try-out contracts for most of the players that left the team, but most of them have ended up as actual contracts. Conor Sheary – New York Rangers Sheary, who had his contract mutually terminated just prior to free agency…

Highlight: First Tampa Bay Lightning Goal of the Season – Oliver Bjorkstrand

It didn’t take long for the Tampa Bay Lightning to get on the board, and it came from one of the areas of their game that folks might have had some questions about – the power play. The goal came off of the stick of the relatively new guy on the unit in Oliver Bjorkstrand. Oliver Bjorkstrand (Jake Guentzel, Brayden Point) Power Play It’s not a really…

Lightning drop “disappointing” opener to Senators, 5-3

There were so many positive numbers for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nikita Kucherov had two goals. The power play went 2-for-3. Andrei Vasilevskiy had 29 saves. Curtis Douglas knocked out a veteran fighter eight seconds into his first NHL shift. Yet, in the end, a lack of execution allowed two points to slip through their fingers as the Ottawa Senators scored four goals in a row on their way to a…

Taking a look at how the new guys played in their first Lightning game

With one game in the books it’s that time. Yup, it’s time to make a snap judgement about the new players that will last for their entire career with the Tampa Bay Lightning! Okay, maybe that’s being a little dramatic, but since there is no hockey to watch tonight (what’s up with that, NHL?) why not waste a few electrons on a quick breakdown of how the Lightning’s two newest players…

Some more thoughts on…the start of the season

Well now. This isn’t exactly what we were expecting out of the gates, now was it? The Tampa Bay Lightning are two games into the season, and for the first time under Jon Cooper’s tenure, they are still searching for their first win. That’s right, not since Steven Stamkos was a rookie and Barry Melrose was behind the bench have the Lightning woken up to see 0-2 next to their name in the standings.

Lightning stumble, fall to Devils, 5-3

In their first game, the Tampa Bay Lightning started fast, then stopped skating in a 5-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators. In their second game they never got out of the gate as the New Jersey Devils outplayed them heavily in the first period, scoring three times, on their way to a 5-3 win. After a second period rally brought the Bolts within a goal, the Devils scored two goals in less than two minutes…
