The Linc - PFF makes the case for the Eagles’ top breakout candidate

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/10/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Post-NFL draft breakout candidates for all 32 teams - PFF
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: S Sydney Brown. Brown will have some competition for a starting role after the team drafted Andrew Mukuba in the third round of this year’s draft, but Brown – a 2023 third-round pick – has seniority and experience in the NFL and in Vic Fangio’s defense, which should give him the upper hand. Brown took on a starting role as a rookie before suffering an injury, which led to just one start in 2024, coming in Week 18 when he posted a 92.0 overall grade and 90.4 coverage grade.

For the Eagles to repeat, they first must fix the Nick Sirianni problem - BGN
One down, one major one to go. The Eagles contractually locked in tight end Dallas Goedert for another year this week. He was about to enter a lame duck season, on the final year of a four-year contract that reportedly paid him $14 million per season. ESPN’s Field Yates reported this past Wednesday that his new deal will pay him $10 million this season, with the chance to earn $1 million more if he meets incentives. That seemed to be the hard part of the Eagles’ offseason, since Goedert had been the subject of trade rumors. Now comes what should be the easy part: Locking up Super Bowl-winning head coach Nick Sirianni, who this coming 2025 season will be in the final year of his contract. It seems a foregone conclusion that it will get done. But when? What’s the holdup?

Reactions to the NFL Draft | NFC East Mixtape Vol. 164 - BGN YouTube
It has been a few weeks since the NFL Draft and we have had enough time to assess what each of our favorite teams did. But what about the divisions they play in? How do we think the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders and New York Giants all fared? RJ Ochoa and Brandon Gowton discuss on the latest edition of the NFC East Mixtape!

3 NFL games perfect for Christmas on 2025 schedule release - SB Nation
Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:00 p.m. ET. If we are having an AFC Championship Game rematch, why not an NFC Championship Game rematch to cap off the tripleheader? Last year, the Washington Commanders stunned everyone around the league with a magical ride to the NFC Championship Game, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. His success put the Commanders in position to build around him this offseason and Washington has done exactly that, adding talented players such as Deebo Samuel, Laremy Tunsil, Deatrich Wise, Javon Kinlaw, and Jonathan Jones in free agency, and then incoming rookies such as Josh Conerly Jr., Trey Amoe, and Jalyin Lane. This improved Commanders roster should get a shot at a rematch against the Eagles in prime time on Christmas night.

Mailbag: Does Howie Roseman suck because he signed Bryce Huff and traded for Jahan Dotson? - PhillyVoice
Question from @liamfish28: Is the possibility of Sydney Brown and Makuba being the safety tandem of the future being given enough consideration? Reed Blankenship hasn’t yet been extended and theoretically the other two have the most athletic upside. [...] I’m mildly surprised that Blankenship hasn’t gotten a deal done yet, but I still expect that to happen at some point this offseason. Above I was asked who the most underrated Eagle is. I think Blankenship is a little underrated, too. He’s a sure tackler and he gets his hands on a lot of footballs (7 INTs, 17 PBUs the last two seasons).

The Hunter vs The Hunted - Iggles Blitz
Dallas has a franchise QB. They have a handful of other stars. But the roster also had clear holes. The only way for them to truly compete with the Eagles was to take some chances. Pickens is a very talented receiver. He’s got enormous potential. He also has real issues. Pickens fell out of the first round in the draft because coaches and teammates were critical of him. The Steelers, who don’t have a lot of offensive weapons, were willing to walk away from Pickens for a future pick because they got tired of his act. He’s also in the final year of his contract so Dallas might only have him for a season. Lots of risk. There is a big reward if he is focused and quits with the nonsense. He just hasn’t done that in a while. Pickens does a really good job of working the sidelines and going downfield. Combine that with CeeDee Lamb working the middle of the field and Dak Prescott could put up some big numbers. Prescott needs protection. Dallas took OG Tyler Booker in the first round. Booker will line up across from Jalen Carter. I don’t think Dallas wanted to put just anyone in that spot.

Eagles film: Can diamond in the rough Cameron Williams be Jeff Stoutland’s latest success story? - Inquirer
Still, Williams’ physical traits make him the type of young, moldable offensive tackle prospect the Eagles should be adding to Stoutland’s room. If he can make strides from a technique standpoint and continue improving his feel for the position to cut down on the penalties, he has all the tools to become an NFL starter down the road. The flashes were there in his college tape. It just depends on how big a leap he can take now that he’s enrolled in Stoutland University.

49ers sign a former 1st and 3rd round pick at offensive tackle - Niners Nation
The 49ers also announced the signing of offensive tackles Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere, as well as cornerback Dallis Flowers. We discussed Petit-Frere in May as being a potential addition to the roster when the Tennessee Titans. Petit-Frere has struggled in pass protection since entering the NFL. His 10% pressure rate allowed is the second-highest among tackles with at least 500 pass-blocking snaps. In 2024, he allowed 11 sacks with the worst blown block percentage in the NFL. It’s a way for the 49ers to find a way to find competition for Colton McKivitz. The former third-rounder is a buy-low option with minimal risk. Dillard was a first-rounder in 2019. He spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before spending a year with the Titans and the Green Bay Packers last year. Dillard started ten games with the Titans at left tackle in 2023. He surrendered ten sacks. So, the 49ers have multiple bodies to cycle through at offensive tackle in case Trent Williams doesn’t stay healthy or push McKivitz.

Are the Commanders in a safe spot at safety? - Hogs Haven
I feel very comfortable with our two-deep heading into the 2025 season. Martin could be poised for a big year, and I think Harris is a significant coverage upgrade over Jeremy Chinn (who had some lapses in this area last season). The wild card here for me is Tyler Owens. His size, athleticism and playmaking ability could be a major factor on the back end of this defense (and as a dime linebacker). I have him listed as a strong safety, but I believe he could play both. What intrigues me the most about this unit is the speed and athleticism. All of the projected contributors (with the exception of Reaves) are 4.4 or better guys with good versatility. Although I would not be comfortable listing safety as a strength, I feel it is far from a weakness, and is an intriguing area to watch this summer during training camp.

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels plans to ‘eliminate some tendencies’ to avoid sophomore slump - Yahoo! Sports
Jayden Daniels knows the risk. C.J. Stroud, Ja’Marr Chase, Dak Prescott and Robert Griffin III all won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors before Daniels claimed the award this past season. All four — and many of their less-decorated draft classmates — took a step back in various production and efficiency metrics during their second pro season. The sophomore slump in the NFL threatens perennially. It doesn’t discriminate. Defensive coordinators have a season’s worth of tape and an offseason of analysis to study rookies and strategize with a depth that game-planning against first-year players doesn’t allow. So as Daniels prepares for his second season at the Washington Commanders’ helm, he’s not shying away from that risk. He’s embracing it. And aiming to thwart it. “I’m sitting down and watching film and trying to eliminate some tendencies, as much as possible,” Daniels told Yahoo Sports this week over Zoom. “Talking to the coaching staff on areas that they feel like I need to improve on and having conversations so we can all hit at full speed.”

Cowboys post-draft roster review: Quarterbacks - Blogging The Boys
Dak Prescott. This season Dak Prescott makes his return after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. Prescott was heading into last season coming off of one the best seasons of his career when he threw for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns versus only nine interceptions, resulting in an All-Pro selection. Recently, Prescott looks to be in great shape. However, there’s a bit of concern about how Prescott looked before suffering his injury. Prescott had a career-low passer rating and was inconsistent in the eight games he was active. Of course, the big question is - Can Prescott deliver in the postseason? Prescott is closing in on franchise passing records but the main goal eluding him and the team is making it to an NFC conference championship appearance, they are the only NFC team to not have accomplished that since 1995. After being handsomely rewarded with a four-year, $240M contract, Prescott is the leader of the team for the foreseeable future. However, everything hinges on him remaining healthy.

George Pickens trade: Grades for Cowboys, Steelers in WR deal - ESPN
But this move is not made only on paper. A big part of the reason Pickens is available is it seems the Steelers had had enough of him. After Pickens had two unsportsmanlike penalties against the Bengals last season, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said, “He’s got a target on his back because he’s George; he understands that. But he’s got to grow up. He’s got to grow up in a hurry.” Then, after the season, Tomlin said, “There’s certainly obviously more room for growth there.” Earlier in the season, there were questions over Pickens’ effort, too, though Tomlin dismissed those concerns at the time. The risk here is mitigated by the one-year commitment, and if I were the Cowboys, I would want to keep it that way. They should let him play out the season and probably let him walk next offseason in exchange for the possibility of a compensatory pick. If Dallas signs Pickens to an extension before the 2025 season, I would substantially reduce its grade here.

Confident Jaxson Dart already showing leadership with New York Giants - Big Blue View
Jaxson Dart was already leading his New York Giants teammates, though many of those are only temporary, before stepping on the field for Friday’s first of two rookie minicamp practices. Dart and his teammates received the script for Friday’s abbreviated 7-on-7 session during a Thursday meeting. On the bus back to the hotel following the meeting, Dart gathered “as many guys as I could together on the offensive side of the ball and go through it and teach everybody, making sure that we’re all on the same page.” “As a quarterback, you’re the one that runs the ship when you’re out there,” Dart said. “If you don’t know the ins and outs of everything, you’re not going to have everybody around you prepared. I think that’s super important. “It’s very important to have that mindset coming to work each and every day. I think that also raises the bar for everybody around you. I think that if you want to be a great team and you want to compete at the highest level, that’s definitely how you have to be as a quarterback.”

Eagles Film Review: Ty Robinson plays like a wrecking ball

Nebraska v Purdue

Photo by Brandon Sloter/Image Of Sport/Getty Images

A closer look at Philadelphia’s third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With the 2025 NFL Draft over, it’s time for some film rooms on the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie class. I will try to get to all 10 draft picks and the UDFAs over the next few weeks. Loads of scouting reports will say very similar things, so I have tried to include film clips to back up everything and I will talk about the player’s fit with the Eagles at the end of the piece. I managed to get the All22 for several rookies, but I can’t share those clips on my Twitter accounts (or I risk getting blocked), so I’ve used a few other accounts here. Let’s go!

You can check out my podcast feed here to hear more from me. I have a Patreon linked to my podcast if you want to support me further. Due to being unable to share All22 on Twitter, I am doing All22 watch-alongs on every Eagles’ rookie on the Patreon, which is really cool!

Previously: Jihaad Campbell / Andrew Mukuba

Strengths

+ He plays hard every snap and has a crazy high-motor. A few of his sacks come from not giving up and continuing to get after the quarterback. He has a relentless energy to split through gaps and bulldoze his way through. It doesn’t always look pretty, but it’s effective.

Ty Robinson is splitting through the slide protection to put pressure on the QB. He doesn't quite get home in time, but the QB throws a bad pass that is intercepted. Good pad level and leverage to create the pressure. pic.twitter.com/kgbia2vT7F

— Caleb James (@CJScoobs) April 8, 2025

Ty Robinson chasing down plays from behind is exactly the type of motor and effort that leads to early playing time. Diagnosed a couple of screens before getting in on the tackle several yards downfield. pic.twitter.com/DOoqQskmWg

— Devin Jackson (@RealD_Jackson) May 7, 2025

+ When he plays with good leverage he has a really strong anchor and can be hard to move. Holds his ground well with heavy hands and good block recognition. His experience playing as a nose tackle will help him develop long-term, even if this isn’t where he ends up playing.

+ Can play multiple spots (nose, 3-tech, 4i) and fits a variety of fronts. Turn on the Ohio State film and after 10 minutes, you have already seen him in several different positions. If you look at all his sacks here, you can see him lining up in a variety of positions.

Ty Robinson's 16% pressure rate as a 0- or 1-tech is insane stuff. Freak athlete. Eagles found some real upside as usual. I hate to go to bat for Howie again, but it is what it is. pic.twitter.com/OEsK1COXuQ

— Hayden Winks (@HaydenWinks) April 26, 2025

+ He has developed several effective pass rush moves (swipe, club/swim) and he has incredibly physical and aggressive hands. When you watch him play you notice how strong his hands are. His swipe move is used frequently.

— PFF College (@PFF_College) April 26, 2025

New #Eagles DT Ty Robinson's go-to pass rush moves are the club rip or the club swim moves. Consistently sets those up, especially when he has that two-way as a 1-tech, 2i, or 3-tech. Crosses faces every time he pulls out one of those moves. pic.twitter.com/h7nB5bdxIz

— Devin Jackson (@RealD_Jackson) May 7, 2025

+ Ankle flexibility and bend are super impressive. He can bend enough to finish the play after getting early pressure.

Ty Robinson showed insane bend at 310 pounds.

At the combine, he was nearly 20 pounds less than his playing weight in college.

Sky-high potential as a pass rusher pic.twitter.com/zNtjxSXgWv

— Eagles Eric (@EaglesXsandOs) April 28, 2025

+ From everything I’ve read, he’s a team captain, respected leader, and known for being coachable and detail-focused.

New #Eagles DT Ty Robinson. Impressive guy. Was pre-med at Nebraska and wants to go into pediatrics when football is finished. pic.twitter.com/HtjwNfBqYl

— John McMullen (@JFMcMullen) April 26, 2025

+ He tested very well at the NFL Combine, showing better athleticism than expected. The numbers jump out.

Ty Robinson is a DT prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 9.89 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 24 out of 2022 DT from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/x0sU5Xfuj6 pic.twitter.com/9yH0QpX6Iq

— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) April 1, 2025

+ He’s very good at moving laterally and stopping the run (in particular outside zone runs). He does a great job staying square to the LOS whilst moving laterally and finding the ball carrier. You see this exact play in his film, a lot!

Working on a film breakdown of new #Eagles DT Ty Robinson, and one thing that keeps popping: his run stopping, specifically on outside runs. He consistently beat reach blocks from offensive linemen, at nearly every spot: as a nose, 1-tech, 3-tech, 5-tech. Keeps his outside arm… pic.twitter.com/pJ29Rgnkbq

— Devin Jackson (@RealD_Jackson) May 6, 2025

Weaknesses

- He doesn’t always show quickness or explosiveness in games, despite very good testing numbers. I don’t see the same athlete on film as he tested on a per-snap basis. He has flashes, but it is inconsistent.

- He can play too upright and therefore loses leverage and balance, making it easier for blockers to control him.

- He doesn’t have great arm length, and he can struggle against longer blockers and get outreached when trying to shed blocks. He lacks a counter when his go-to move (the club) doesn’t work.

- He ends up on the ground a little too often for my liking. Some of his reps can be a bit all-or-nothing, and he may have to do a better job of staying on his feet to keep the quarterback in the pocket, rather than allowing him an avenue to escape.

- He will turn 24 as a rookie so he may be maxed out already.

Overall

I hated the Ty Robinson pick when it happened. This has nothing to do with the player ... but I scouted 15 defensive tackles pre-draft and Ty Robinson was number 16 on my list! You couldn’t make it up. After getting over my initial annoyance, Robinson was the player I was fascinated to watch. I think he’s the most fun player I’ve watched that the Eagles drafted. The film is hilarious. He is relentless and plays like a wrecking ball.

Robinson isn’t a flashy athlete and I didn’t see the explosiveness and power on film that made me think this guy is going to be an outstanding starter, which is to be expected in the 4th round! However, he’s a consistent, versatile defensive lineman who will give the Eagles someone who can play in a rotation immediately. I’m not sure he has the physical traits ever to become a high-level starter (especially considering his age, he’s 24 years old), but I feel pretty convinced that he will have a role as a rookie and play well. I think he can play on early downs, be good against the run, and get after the quarterback.

The Eagles often reach for the stars and shoot for upside on day 3. This pick feels a bit more of a safe option, after losing Milton Williams in free agency. The Eagles needed someone to contribute immediately. Ty Robinson should be able to do this. I wouldn't be shocked if he were trusted to take the Moro Ojomo role while Ojomo stepped up into the Milton Williams role. Good teams can’t afford to keep everyone around, and this team needed someone to step in and play. He’s not likely to be a star, but Robinson should be a dependable role player for years. He’s going to be a fun player to watch, I promise you! The energy is relentless.

NFL Schedule 2025: Eagles to host Bears on Black Friday

NFC Divisional Playoffs: Los Angeles Rams v Philadelphia Eagles

Kara Durrette/Getty Images

The Eagles won’t be playing on Thanksgiving this season.

The 2025 NFL schedule keeps trickling in, and we’ve learned of the third primetime game in as many reveals for the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly will host the Chicago Bears on Black Friday at 3:00 PM on Amazon Prime Video.

Bears roam. Eagles hunt.
Coming this Black Friday.@Ticketmaster | #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/8DWqtif7uY

— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) May 12, 2025

This matchup was considered an option for Week 1, but instead, the Eagles will host the Cowboys for the season opener and play the Bears the day after Thanksgiving.

The Eagles will start the season with a Thursday night game, play the Bears on a Friday, and then take on the Commanders in Washington on Saturday in Week 16. At this rate, the Eagles will likely play a game this season on each day of the week except a Tuesday and Wednesday — we’ll have to wait for the full reveal to know for sure.

As the defending Super Bowl Champions, prime time games are expected, and the NFL is certainly loading them up for the Eagles in 2025.

NFL Schedule 2025: Eagles face Packers on ‘Monday Night Football’ in Week 10

NFC Wild Card Playoffs: Green Bay Packers v Philadelphia Eagles

Another primetime game for the Philadelphia Eagles

Despite the full NFL schedule still to be released, we’ve learned of the fourth primetime game for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. Nick Sirianni and company will head to Green Bay in Week 10 to take on the Packers on ‘Monday Night Football.’

This is the fourth different day of the week for Eagles games this season in as many reveals. So far, we know:

  • Week 1: Cowboys at Eagles (Thursday Night Football)
  • Week 10: Eagles at Packers (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 13: Bears at Eagles (Black Friday)
  • Week 16: Eagles at Commanders (Saturday on FOX)

The defending Super Bowl Champions are getting the national treatment this season as they try to run it back. Hopefully playing on so many days other than Sunday will help keep players fresh down the stretch — and not load them up with 3 games in 11 days like some teams did last season.

We should learn more about the Eagles’ 2025 schedule as the day goes on, with the full reveal set for Wednesday at 8:00 PM.

Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl LIX regular season rematch is scheduled for Week 2

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Guessing this game might be a little more competitive than the one from February.

The reigning Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles will be facing the reigning Super Bowl loser Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL schedule, according to a report from Jeff McLane.

This September 14 game (hey, the Eagles ARE actually playing on a Sunday this year!) will air on FOX starting at 4:25 PM Eastern, according to a report from Jordan Schultz.

The Eagles will be playing on the road at “GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.” The Birds previously won there in a regular season rematch of Super Bowl LVII during the 2023 season.

That game was a competitive one that came down to the wire. The guess here is that this season’s matchup will more closely resemble that one than it does the total blowout that was Super Bowl LIX.

Although it’d be pretty cool for Eagles fans to see their team totally stomp Patrick Mahomes once again.

The Eagles have a slight rest advantage for this Week 2 game since they open the season in the NFL Kickoff Game on Thursday, September 4. The Chiefs play the next night in Brazil on Friday, September 5.

Eagles win-loss record predictions for the 2025 schedule

NFC Divisional Playoffs: Los Angeles Rams v Philadelphia Eagles

How many games do you see the Birds winning this season?

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2025 schedule is officially here, it’s the perfect time to predict the outcome of every single game.

Some may suggest this is a useless activity. To that I say: lighten up, Francis. We’re just trying to have some fun.

Also, this projection is bound to be 100% accurate, so it’s actually pretty useful.

This time last year, I had the 2024 Eagles finishing with a 13-4 regular season record. I was somehow a little too low on a team that ultimately finished 14-3 and won Super Bowl LIX.

Let’s take a look at how things might shake out!

Week 1 - vs. Dallas Cowboys

The idea that “Dak Prescott owns the Eagles!” is very silly. Yes, Cowboys fans, he’s been such an obstacle for the Eagles to overcome that they’ve won TWO Super Bowls during his time in the NFL. Prescott was bad before he got hurt last year. This will be his age 32 season. The Eagles’ defense will shut him down as the reigning champs get a win on the night where they reveal their Super Bowl banner.

EAGLES WIN: 1-0

Week 2 - at Kansas City Chiefs

In 2023, the Eagles won the regular season rematch of Super Bowl LVII. In 2025, I have the Eagles losing the regular season rematch of Super Bowl LIX. At the very least, I expect the game to be a lot more competitive than the last meeting between these two teams.

EAGLES LOSE: 1-1

Week 3 - vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams might be the second best team in the NFC. But their defense really, really struggled to stop Saquon Barkley last year. And I’m not about to give the cowardly Sean McVay the benefit of the doubt. Nick Sirianni and Vic Fangio are each 3-0 against the Rams’ head coach.

EAGLES WIN: 2-1

Week 4 - at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

How can the Eagles possibly recover from a Week 4 loss to the Bucs that drops them to 2-2?! There’s just no way they can possibly go on to win the Super Bowl after that.

Jokes aside, Tampa has been a pretty tough place for them to play. Todd Bowles has Jalen Hurts’ number; the Eagles quarterback is 1-4 in games against the Bucs. Hurts has produced just seven passing touchdowns to six turnovers against Bowles defenses.

EAGLES LOSE: 2-2

Week 5 - vs. Denver Broncos

This game marks the second time Fangio is going up against the Broncos since Denver fired him. The first time was when the Miami Dolphins beat the Broncos in 2023, 70 to 20. Methinks he likes beating that team.

EAGLES WIN: 3-2

Week 6 - at New York Giants

Russell Wilson used to own the Eagles but they finally beat him as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He’s clearly not what he once was. And he might not even be starting for them at this point? If he isn’t, Jaxson Dart isn’t keeping Fangio up at night.

EAGLES WIN: 4-2

Week 7 - at Minnesota Vikings

Hard to know exactly what to make of the Vikings given the uncertainty that comes with projecting J.J. McCarthy. Minny does seem poised to take a step back after having a lot of success in one-score games last year.

EAGLES WIN: 5-2

Week 8 - vs. New York Giants

The Eagles have absolutely owned the Giants since ... well, a long time now. No reason to give New York the benefit of the doubt. Especially with this game taking place in Philly.

EAGLES WIN: 6-2

Week 9 - BYE

The Eagles were able to overcome an initially dreaded Week 5 bye last year. Turned out it came at the perfect time. This time around, the bye is essentially at the halfway point of the regular season.

Week 10 - at Green Bay Packers

I’d say this game is the Packers’ Super Bowl but I don’t think that’s the case. I think cowardly pushing to eliminate the Brotherly Shove is their true achievement. Very unserious crybaby losers who will only look silly again when the Eagles beat them again.

EAGLES WIN: 7-2

Week 11 - Detroit Lions

Tough spot here for the Eagles, coming off short rest to play the nasty and physical Dan Campbell Lions. I think the Birds either win in Week 10 or Week 11 but not both. I could also see the Lions winning this game and people going ‘Wow, they would’ve beaten the Eagles last year!’ ... which totally isn’t how that works.

EAGLES LOSE: 7-3

Week 12 - at Dallas Cowboys

Prior to last season, the Eagles hadn’t swept the Cowboys since 2011. It’s just not something that happens very often. A split is a safe bet. Though perhaps I’m giving too much credit to a team with a projected win total set at 7.5 games.

EAGLES LOSE: 7-4

Week 13 - vs. Chicago Bears

I really wasn’t impressed by what I saw out of Caleb Williams last year. Maybe he’ll be better in Year 2. Chicago hiring Ben Johnson certainly serves to help him. I’m not ready to give da Bears da benefit of da doubt.

EAGLES WIN: 8-4

Week 14 - at Los Angeles Chargers

Jim Harbaugh’s Bolts play a pretty specific brand of football: Har-ball. It’s similar to the Eagles’ offensive approach last year in terms of emphasizing the run and limiting turnovers at all costs (Justin Herbert only had THREE interceptions last season). Of course, they didn’t have the talent that the Eagles did. And they still don’t have more than Philly does. The Eagles will win this game in grind-it-out fashion.

EAGLES WIN: 9-4

Week 15 - vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Chip Kelly’s first return to Lincoln Financial Field in front of an Eagles crowd since being fired in 2015. I like Fangio’s defense to shut down his offense. Howie Roseman is going to lead the pregame huddle.

EAGLES WIN: 10-4

Week 16 - at Washington Commanders

Jayden Daniels is really good. He could conceivably be the best quarterback in this division for years to come. That being said, I think the Commanders could be due for a harsh reality check in 2025. Progress isn’t always linear; just ask the 2024 Houston Texans who were preseason darlings after CJ Stroud’s rookie season. And I don’t love how Washington focused on adding a lot of older players (who might be past their prime) this offseason.

EAGLES WIN: 11-4

Week 17 - at Buffalo Bills

Difficult to bet against Josh Allen in this situation.

EAGLES LOSE: 11-5

Week 18 - vs. Washington Commanders

That’s right, I have the Eagles SWEEPING the Commanders in 2025. Gotta lean into my take that they’re being overrated.

EAGLES WIN: 12-5

FINAL RECORD: 12-5

The Eagles’ schedule is not easy. Certainly not as easy as it was last year.

And the Birds will very likely be worse in 2025 than they were in 2024. There’s mostly room to go down after being so awesome last season.

But they still have a lot of talent. And talent was a huge driver of their success en route to winning a Super Bowl.

PLAYOFFS?!

It’s hard to predict a Super Bowl repeat for the Eagles when they haven’t even completed a division repeat since 2004. The feeling here is that this will be like 2018 where they make a run in the playoffs but ultimately come up a little short.

Eagles lose another key scouting department member to the Raiders

NFL: MAY 05 Eagles Minicamp

Photo by Andy Lewis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Another hit to Philadelphia’s front office.

The Philadelphia Eagles are losing another key member of their front office to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Earlier this month, the Raiders hired Eagles senior director of college scouting Anthony Patch to be their new senior personnel executive.

Now the Raiders are hiring Eagles senior director of scouting Brandon Hunt to the position of vice president of player personnel, according to Inside The League’s Neil Stratton.

Hunt originally joined the Eagles in May 2022. They had previously shown interest in hiring him away from the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2016. Hunt obviously contributed to a pretty successful stretch of Eagles football over the last three seasons. As such, he reportedly interviewed for the New England Patriots’ general manager opening last year.

And so it’s not like the up-and-coming Hunt was set to be in Philly for long. Hard to blame the Raiders for hiring Eagles executives in an effort to turn their franchise around.

Howie Roseman has done well to restock the Eagles’ front office talent pipeline in recent years. The two-time Super Bowl-winning general manager will need to keep it up moving forward.

The Linc - Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb mock Quinyon Mitchell’s nickname

Dallas Cowboys v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/16/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Cowboys WR says Eagles player’s nickname is a lie - NJ.com
On Wednesday, the Cowboys debuted “America’s Stream: Countdown to Schedule Release,” featuring linebacker Micah Parsons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and two other Dallas players participating in a livestream from a golf course. When the subject turned to the Week 1 matchup, Parsons and Lamb took aim at Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and his nickname, “Quinyonamo Bay,” inspired by Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. Navy detention center in Cuba. “I’m sorry, that Quinyanimo Bay don’t last over here, man,” Parsons said. “That (bleep)’s dead.” As Parsons approached a tent, he explained Mitchell’s nickname to his teammates, including Lamb. Parsons mentioned people were saying Lamb was headed there. Lamb did not look amused. “Stop the cap,” Lamb said as his hat was blown off his head by the wind. For those who need an explanation, “cap” is slang for something that is a lie. “I have never been locked down on any island.”

Pros and cons of the Eagles’ 2025 schedule - BGN
The Eagles have a slight rest advantage over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12. The Cowboys are playing an away game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night in Week 12 before hosting the Eagles on a short week.

NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Post-draft and schedule release edition - PhillyVoice
1) Eagles (Super Bowl champions in 2024): One thing that we didn’t mention in our Eagles schedule advantages and disadvantages is that there are a lot of familiar teams on the Eagles’ schedule who could have extra motivation to take them down this season: They stomped all over the Cowboys last season, blowing them out twice by a combined score of 75-13. They embarrassed Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs in a way that nobody ever has, and in front of a global audience. They blew out the Rams during the regular season, and then held them off in a closer game in the playoffs. They beat the Packers in Brazil, hurt their quarterback, and then bullied them in the Wild Card Round to such a degree that Green Bay’s leadership is spending all offseason trying to ban one of their signature plays. They didn’t play the Lions in 2024, but Nick Sirianni beat Dan Campbell in 2021 and 2022, and the Lions probably hold some Saints-like delusion that they would have beaten Philly if they themselves hadn’t choked against the Commanders. They absolutely tore the Commanders apart, and joyfully so, in the NFC Championship Game. All of those teams are going to be especially motivated to be at their best against the Eagles, and just generally speaking, the other teams on their schedule are going to want to knock off the champs.

Spadaro: For a generation, Eagles have been America’s Team - PE.com
What does that signify? Clearly, it means the Eagles are and have been for 25 years a team that the national audience loves to watch. The NFL wants the Eagles to be a marquee team and, for real, that’s what the Eagles are. We’re talking about a generation of this kind of national exposure, and the Eagles have responded to the attention: 8 trips to the NFC Championship Game, 4 Super Bowl appearances, 2 World Championships. People who are in their 30s and 40s scarcely remember the tougher times, and only those on the back nine of their employment years recall when the team was flat-out bad. These are the great times, have been for a long while, and show no signs of slowing down.

Why the 2025 NFL Schedule Has Even More Big Brand Names in Prime Time - SI
That, of course, being the Philadelphia Eagles–Dallas Cowboys kickoff game, set for Sept. 4. “Philly had a lot of good, interesting matchups, and we kicked around a lot of them,” Bose said. “Washington, a division rival in a rematch of the [conference] title game? The Eagles have the Lions at home. Denver has that feel of an up-and-coming team. Chicago, too. But starting last year with Baltimore and Kansas City, an AFC title game rematch, felt big. And as we looked through the schedule, we wanted to push ourselves—Let’s go big in the big windows.

NFL schedule: Each AFC team’s win total projection for 2025 season - NFL.com
Week 1’s win percentage represents Philly’s highest forecasted odds of beating Dallas in their first matchup of the season (in any week) in at least 10 seasons. You’re welcome, Eagles fans. Over the next three weeks, the defending champs visit the Chiefs, host the Rams, then travel to the Bucs — with each game presenting a much tougher task than the opener. It’s worth noting that the Eagles and Commanders don’t have their first matchup until Week 16 in Washington (with the follow-up set for Week 18 in Philly).

Super Bowl odds, projections: Why our model sees Ravens, not Eagles, as early favorites - The Athletic
Philly not so special? The numbers aren’t as hot for the defending Super Bowl champions. The Philadelphia Eagles have “only” a 7.8 percent chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy per the model, the fourth-highest mark in the NFL. It’s not a disrespectful outlook, but we know they won’t see it that way in Philly. The Eagles are still set up for success with their key components returning, and there are major questions with their greatest conference competition in 2024 — the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings — but it’s not easy to repeat. The Kansas City Chiefs can attest to that. [BLG Note: I’m sure Lamar Jackson will totally come up big in the playoffs for Baltimore this time.]

Cooper DeJean’s pick-six cleats, Nick Sirianni’s Super Bowl fit, and more Eagles artifacts are now in the Hall of Fame - Inquirer
Cooper DeJean’s Super Bowl LIX cleats, in which he caught his first career interception and returned it for a touchdown, on his birthday, are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Kendle said he wanted to secure an artifact from the defense, because of their dominant performance in the Super Bowl, for the exhibit. DeJean happened to be in the facility during a call with the Eagles, and he agreed to loan his shoes for the exhibit.

Eagles teammates Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship launch ‘Exciting Mics’ podcast - PHLY
Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship took the microphone together at the Super Bowl parade in February on the Art Museum steps. They’ll now take the microphone together a few blocks away each week, when the Eagles defensive backs combine for a new podcast, “Exciting Mics.”

The clock ticks toward the next tush-push debate - PFT
When it comes to the tush push, the clock is ticking. Owners meet in Minneapolis next week, with a revised proposal regarding the play expected to be on the docket. During a Thursday conference call with reporters, NFL executive V.P. of communications, public affairs, and policy Jeff Miller did not directly answer the question of whether the Packers have finalized and submitted a new proposal to remove the technique from the rulebook.

Raiders front office: Las Vegas adds another Super Bowl winner - Silver And Black Pride
Brandon Hunt was last the Philadelphia Eagles’ senior director of scouring. He’s been with the Eagles since 2022. Prior to that, Hunt was the pro scouting director of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2009-22. Hunt is the second front-office member of the Super Bowl-winning Eagles that Spytek has brought to Las Vegas this month. Hunt joins Anthony Patch to go from Philadelphia to Las Vegas. Patch was hired as a senior player personnel executive. HE was previously the Eagles’ senior director of college scouting since 20116. Patch, whop was part of two Super Bowl winning teams in Philadelphia, was with the franchise since 2002. He and Spytek worked together for a few years there.

Ranking every opposing quarterback on Eagles’ 2025 schedule - NBCSP
9. Dak Prescott. Week 1 in Philly, Week 12 in Dallas. Prescott is 31 now and coming off a season that ended after just eight games. Prescott needed surgery to repair his hamstring. Before that injury, Prescott led the Cowboys to a 3-5 record and had 11 touchdowns to 8 interceptions. Interceptions have been a problem for Prescott, who had 15 of them in 12 games in 2022 and 9 in 17 games in 2023. He’s had an up-and-down career but at his best, Prescott is a good quarterback. In 2025, the Cowboys added George Pickens, who should pair nicely (on the field) with CeeDee Lamb to give the Cowboys a solid 1-2 punch. In 13 career games against the Eagles, Prescott has a 9-4 record but he has missed a lot of games against the Birds in recent seasons.

Why the offseason grade for the Cowboys from Pro Football Focus is wrong - Blogging The Boys
So yes, we strongly disagree with the C+ offseason grade the Cowboys received from PFF. They were much better than teams who receive similar grades. Five other teams received a C+ grade (Falcons, Bengals, Chargers, Dolphins, Tennessee), two with a C- grade (Packers, Steelers), two with a D grade (Texans, 49ers), and one with a D- grade (Saints). And if you’re wondering what grades Dallas’ NFC East division rival’s received; the Washington Commanders received a A+ grade, Philadelphia Eagles a B grade, and the New York Giants received a B- grade. An argument could be made the Cowboys had just as good an offseason or better than all of them.

New York Giants projected to go 5-12 by pair of statistical models - Big Blue View
Now, NFL Network analytics expert Cynthia Frelund is out with her simulated projection of the 2025 season. After running every game one million times, Frelund came up with a projected 5.4 victories for the Giants. She writes: “Trying to win at Washington (in Week 1) and hosting Kansas City (on Sunday Night Football in Week 3) in the first three weeks of the season is tough in itself. That becomes a much tougher ask if rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart ends up being the team’s starter. The Giants’ schedule is punishing overall and especially so midway through the campaign, with back-to-back road games in Denver (Week 7) and Philadelphia (Week 8) and home games against San Francisco (Week 9) and Green Bay (Week 11) sandwiched around a trip to Chicago. The difficult sequence finally ends in Detroit in Week 12.” The Athletic came up with 5.5 victories for the Giants in their season simulation. The Athletic gives the Giants a 4.7% chance of reaching the playoffs. The Browns (3.6%) are the only team with worse odds.

The NFL Wants You to Watch the Kansas City Chiefs - The Ringer
The last time we saw the Chiefs, they were getting run off the field by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. They didn’t just fail in their attempt to win another Super Bowl, they were thoroughly embarrassed. (As if you weren’t being inundated with enough Chiefs content this week, ESPN just released a trailer for a Last Dance–esque docuseries called The Kingdom, which chronicles the Chiefs’ failed three-peat bid.) In building its 2025 schedule this way, with the Chiefs as the marquee attraction, the NFL seems to be banking on Mahomes and Andy Reid and the entire Chiefs organization finding some sort of redemption. At the very least, the NFL is trying to capitalize on the crossover stardom of Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who could be playing his final season.

NFL to vote on allowing players to play flag in 2028 Olympics - ESPN
NFL owners will vote next week on a resolution that would allow players to participate in flag football during the 2028 Olympics, according to a memo the league sent to teams this week and released publicly Thursday. According to the resolution, “participation by NFL players in flag football during the 2028 Summer Olympics ... will support such growth and advance several league interests, including increasing fan and public interest in flag football, expanding the global reach of the NFL, and providing greater opportunities for fan engagement and for our league partners.”

The NFL really tweaked the schedule because of Aaron Rodgers - SB Nation
We all know the NFL likes to manufacture drama whenever possible in making the schedule, but changing things because of a narcissistic, should-be-retired quarterback is pretty darn incredible. In deciding on games this year, particularly those for the Steelers, the league really had to think about how Aaron Rodgers could impact the slate. NFL scheduling executive Mike North spoke to the Associated Press on Thursday about giving Pittsburgh four prime time games in 2025, and admitted that it could have been more if Rodgers agreed to join the team.

The strange fascination with Jordon Hudson and Bill Belichick, explained - Vox
When we look at the relationship between 73-year-old legendary football coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend and business partner, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, it’s hard to know exactly what we’re seeing. Two grown-ups in love forging a dynamic business partnership? Elder abuse, as some have wildly speculated? Or is it, as the vitriolic comments in Hudson’s social media posts would have it, good old-fashioned gold digging?

Eagles lose national scout to Broncos

Detroit Lions v Cincinnati Bengals

Even more Philadelphia front office poaching.

The Philadelphia Eagles are losing a third member of their scouting department this offseason.

Eagles national scout Jordon Dizon is returning to the Denver Broncos as their new director of pro scouting, according to Inside The League’s Neil Stratton.

Dizon originally joined the Eagles during the 2022 offseason. Prior to that, the Colorado Buffaloes alumnus served the Broncos’ front office from 2015-2021.

Dizon joins former Eagles senior director of college scouting Anthony Patch and former Eagles senior director of scouting Brandon Hunt to leave Philly this offseason. They all landed in the AFC West with Dizon joining the Broncos and the duo of Patch and Hunt joining the Las Vegas Raiders.

Front office poachings are to be expected given the Eagles’ Super Bowl success. These executives also know that there’s a certain ceiling for them in Philly with Howie Roseman firmly entrenched as general manager.

The Eagles will likely soon announce some front office additions and promotions. The team will need to work towards replacing the talent they’ve lost.

2026 NFL Mock Draft: Very early projections for next year’s first round

Syndication: Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Nathan Giese/Avalanche-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Who do you want the Philadelphia Eagles to take next year?

The 2025 NFL Draft is in the books. Now it is time to indulge in the time-honored tradition of a way too early mock draft for next year. While this activity will miss on players and draft positions, it is a great way to familiarize yourself with some of the top prospects next year.

  1. New York Giants - Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama: Picking this high probably means a hard reset for the Giants. Maybe they give Jaxson Dart another try and go with a top OT prospect.
  2. Cleveland Browns - Arch Manning, QB, Texas: Arch Manning is as unproven as he is talented. I’m willing to bet he puts himself in the first round conversation pretty early on.
  3. Tennessee Titans - TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson: Tennessee invested a lot in rebooting their offense and now they can do the same of their defense.
  4. New York Jets - Cade Clubnik, QB, Clemson: Picking here means the Justin Fields bet did not hit. Now New York can cash in on a top quarterback.
  5. New Orleans Saints - LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina: I am so excited to see LaNorris Sellers’ growth next season. He’ll play himself into franchise quarterback conversations.
  6. Carolina Panthers - Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State: Right now, Caleb Downs is the best pure player in the country. The question is how high a safety can go.
  7. Las Vegas Raiders - Jermond McCoy, CB, Tennessee: Pete Carroll will want to makeover the Raiders defense after spending this offseason retooling the offense.
  8. Indianapolis Colts - Drew Allar, QB, Penn State: Drew Allar is a really talented player who keeps getting better. If Anthony Richardson can’t catch on in year three, the Colts could go in this direction.
  9. Dallas Cowboys - Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame: The only first round running back at this stage in the conversation, Jeremiyah Love makes a ton of sense in Dallas.
  10. Cleveland Browns (via Jacksonville Jaguars) - Spencer Fano, OT, Utah: Cleveland needs help everywhere and Spencer Fano is a great tackle prospect.
  11. Seattle Seahawks - Peter Woods, DL, Clemson: Seattle keeps upgrading their trenches with a versatile lineman who can play base end and kick inside.
  12. New England Patriots - Jordan Tyson, WR, ASU: The Patriots get perimeter weapon for Drake Maye.
  13. Los Angeles Rams (from Atlanta Falcons) - Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU: The Rams will need to think about life after Matt Stafford. Garrett Nussmeier has the mental makeup of an NFL quarterback, even with average tools.
  14. Pittsburgh Steelers - Sam Leavitt, QB, ASU: Who knows who will be throwing the ball for Pittsburgh this year. Next year, it could be the talented rookie out of Arizona State.
  15. Miami Dolphins - Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson: Miami has to retool their secondary after losing a ton of talent on the back end this offseason.
  16. Chicago Bears - LT Overton, EDGE, Alabama: The Bears have done an excellent job surrounding Caleb Williams with weapons. Now they can build out their defense.
  17. Arizona Cardinals - Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami: Arizona has to get more talented in the trenches.
  18. Minnesota Vikings - Reuben Bain Jr, EDGE, Miami: Another weapon for Brian Flores to terrorize offenses with.
  19. Denver Broncos - Keldric Faulk, EDGE, Auburn: The Broncos have such a good secondary right now and can add more talent up front.
  20. Houston Texans - Jake Slaughter, C, Florida: Houston’s top priority has to be keeping CJ Stroud upright.
  21. Green Bay Packers - Dillon Thieneman, S, Purdue: Green Bay goes back to adding premium defensive talent with one of the most gifted defensive backs in the country.
  22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Malik Muhammad, CB, Texas: Tampa gets some more defensive talent after they’ve added quality players on offense this offseason.
  23. Los Angeles Chargers - Dani Dennis-Sutton, EDGE, Penn State: The Chargers had a great defense in 2024, but lost a big piece when they cut Joey Bosa. With Khalil Mack getting near retirement age, they’ll need a young, talented pass rusher.
  24. Washington Commanders - Deontae Lawson, LB, Alabama: More speed and physicality for Dan Quinn’s young defense.
  25. Cincinnati Bengals - AJ Harris, CB, Penn State: The Bengals need defensive pieces wherever they can get them.
  26. Los Angeles Rams - Eric Singleton Jr, WR, Georgia Tech: The Devante Adams thing will be a lot of fun next year but the Rams need a long term answer across from Puka Nacua.
  27. Detroit Lions - Ar’maj Reed Adams, G, Texas A&M: Keeping with Detroit Philosophy on a big, physical offensive line.
  28. Kansas City Chiefs - Tyreak Sapp, EDGE, Florida: Kansas City adds a talented edge rusher to keep their defensive line young.
  29. San Francisco 49ers - Denzel Boston, WR, Washington: Does San Francisco miss Deebo Samuel? Does Brandon Aiyuk return to form? Big questions but maybe there’s an answer in Denzel Boston.
  30. Baltimore Ravens - Zane Durant, DL, Penn State: Baltimore loves a big, athletic, versatile defensive lineman.
  31. Buffalo Bills - Elijah Sarratt, WR, Indiana: Brandon Beane won’t have to yell at radio hosts after this.
  32. Philadelphia Eagles - David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech: If the Eagles repeat as Super Bowl champions, it means their pass rush probably didn’t miss Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham all that much. Still, can’t have enough of these guys in the wings.

NFC Wild Card Playoffs: Green Bay Packers v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/18/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

2025 NFL schedule release: Top 10 prime-time games - NFL.com
10) EAGLES vs. COWBOYS — Week 1: Thursday, Sept. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC. The 2025 NFL Kickoff Game’s placement on this list is perfunctory, as it will capture our attention throughout the summer. When we’re in the dog days, waiting on training camp arrivals in July, we can look to this NFC East opener as what could be, and what will be, if only we wait a few more months. The matchup is one we’ve seen before — many times in prime time — but not as frequently in this form as one might think. Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott have only faced off thrice in their careers (the Cowboys QB is 2-1 in those matchups); one of the two QBs has missed seven of 10 potential meetings with injury or rest. The timing of this Week 1 clash ensures, barring unfortunate circumstances, that two of the league’s best will be available for an early-season litmus test between division rivals. [...] 7) EAGLES at PACKERS: Week 10: Monday, Nov. 10 at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC. Will Philly run the Tush Push on every play? This midseason rematch of the NFC Wild Card Game is more than just a clash of conference blue bloods and perennial playoff teams. After losing to the Eagles in the 2024 postseason, Green Bay was the team to propose a ban this offseason on the near-unstoppable play synonymous with Philly’s offense. As of publication, the rule proposal has been tabled and is set to be taken up again at next week’s Spring League Meeting. Matt LaFleur and Nick Sirianni each have their camps, lobbying for and against a ban of the Eagles’ lethal scrum, respectively. Whether or not a ban is ultimately instituted, there will likely be underlying bad blood seeping into this Monday night matchup, making it must-watch TV. [...] 2) EAGLES vs. LIONS: Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 16 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC. The NFC Championship Game that should’ve been. No offense to backers of the Washington franchise, but NFL fans were cheated out of a matchup between the conference’s two most dynamic offenses last January when the Commanders took out the Lions’ kneecaps in the Divisional Round. We’ll finally get our Detroit-Philadelphia matchup in 2025, albeit without both of the Lions’ coordinators and a number of Eagles stars who departed in the offseason. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley remain, however, to face off against Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in a showdown of smashmouth outfits. This long-lost matchup — the franchises’ first since 2022 (a 73-point barnburner between two unrecognizable sides) — could have easily been the NFL’s Kickoff Game if the league had not opted for the allure of Brian Schottenheimer. But we’ll take it in Week 11. Hell, we’ll take it right now.

2026 NFL Mock Draft: Very early projections for next year’s first round - BGN
Philadelphia Eagles - David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech: If the Eagles repeat as Super Bowl champions, it means their pass rush probably didn’t miss Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham all that much. Still, can’t have enough of these guys in the wings.

Eagles Autism Challenge raises a record $10 million in 2025 - NBCSP
The 8th annual Eagles Autism Challenge set a record, raising over $10 million, the team announced Saturday afternoon. In all, the Eagles Autism Challenge has raised more than $40 million since its inception in 2018. All money raised goes directly to Autism research and care for those affected by it. The Challenge has grown tremendously in recent years. In 2022, the event raised what was then a record $4.1 million. The 2023 Challenge raised $6.2 million and last year’s raised $8.1 million. So that’s about $27 million just since 2022.

Six NFL win total over-unders I like - PhillyVoice
Commanders (over-under 9.5): The Commanders won four games in 2023. In 2024, they won 12. That was the biggest win total improvement in the NFL last season. It tied for the 9th best improvement since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule. Here’s a look at all the teams that have had improvements of 8 or wins in a season, and then what those teams did the year after their big improvements (again, since the NFL went to at least 16-game schedule). Only the 1996-1998 Jets had an improvement once again after their initial breakout season. On average, the above teams experienced a decrease of 3.9 wins the following season. For the under to hit, the Commanders only have to lose three fewer games, and it’s probably worth noting that they had some lucky wins last season. Put me down for the under. UNDER 9.5.

Trying to make sense of the Cowboys contrasting roster-building approaches - Blogging The Boys
Green with envy: It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles are very aggressive in their roster-building approach. Cowboys’ fans alternate between jealousy and laughing at them, depending on their results. Right now, it’s envy. We have spent quite a bit explaining how the Eagles have chosen to borrow a ridiculous amount of cap resources from future years by adding so many void years to their players’ contracts. The Eagles already have the most cash allocated to players in each of the next three years, with over $700 million on their books. No other team is close to that. While the Cowboys’ front office has been more active this year, they aren’t changing their ways and following the Eagles’ approach. They are just doing more of what they do, which still consists of careful spending. There were no big outside free agent purchases, nor did they manipulate contracts by excessively using void years. The Cowboys are still doing Cowboys things, but they’re just doing a little more of it.

2025 NFL schedule release: Judging overreactions to matchups - ESPN
The Cowboys could have a very unhappy holiday season. Dallas has a Week 10 bye, which is just about the ideal time to have one. The Cowboys also come out of it to play on a Monday night (in Las Vegas). So, the Cowboys will have 13 days off before starting the second half of their season. They’d better rest up ... After the Raiders game, the Cowboys have a home matchup against the Eagles on short rest then a Thanksgiving Day game against the visiting Chiefs on even shorter rest. So after nearly two weeks without playing, they’ll have three games in 11 days, with two of those coming against last season’s Super Bowl teams. Then they’re at Detroit the following Thursday before home games against the Vikings and Chargers in Weeks 15 and 16. Dallas is then at Washington on Christmas Day on another Sunday-to-Thursday turnaround before finishing with a likely layup against the Giants in New Jersey. Verdict: NOT AN OVERREACTION I mean, even acknowledging the fact that all the same teams that were good last season aren’t sure to be good again this season, that is a rough stretch. Three short-week games in the final six weeks of the season is no team’s idea of a good time. All four of the Cowboys’ post-bye road games are in different time zones than the one they play in. And all four of their post-bye home games are against teams that made the playoffs last season. If the Cowboys want to take their turn in the annual flip-flopping of the NFC East title between them and Philadelphia, they might have to build up a big pre-bye division lead.

Dru Phillips named New York Giants’ most underrated player - Big Blue View
“Phillips was one of just eight cornerbacks to rank in the top 25 in PFF coverage grade (75.8) and PFF run-defense grade (78.1) in 2024 and one of just three (Cooper DeJean and Kyler Gordon) to do it while spending the majority of his snaps in the slot, where his run-defense skills come into play more often.” Phillips is an excellent choice, with his ability perhaps hidden by how poorly the Giants played as a team. It’s hard to actually find other players who should have been considered. Micah McFadden? Jermaine Eluemunor?

Friday Question: Which athlete do you hate the most? - SB Nation
In a perfect world there’d be no hate. I don’t know if John Lennon said that, or Elmo from Sesame Street. Obviously we all should aspire to hate less and love more, but when it comes to sports that’s not an option. Naturally there are athletes we just grow to hate with a red-hot passion. People who get our blood boiling every single time they set food on the field, court, ice, or whatever playing surface is on offer. Today we thought we’d share stories of the players we will never forgive and still haunt us to this day.

Nick Sirianni, Eagles agree to multi-year contract extension

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

The Super Bowl-winning head coach is now under contract for years to come.

From hot seat to Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has done a remarkable job in his four years in Philly, and the team is rewarding him with a new contract.

We’ve agreed on a multi-year extension with Head Coach Nick Sirianni ‼️ pic.twitter.com/K094MmJ0fR

— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) May 19, 2025

Sirianni’s job is a lot more comfortable after he was able to lead the team to a 10-1 record after the bye week, and then on to win the Super Bowl. Throughout his time in Philly, he’s gone 48-20 in the regular season for a .706 win percentage, which is the highest in the NFL among current head coaches — but, he’s also at the top of the list of all-time win percentages, too.

Via Pro Football Reference:

The turnaround this year was important, because as impressive as his win percentage is, the collapse at the end of the 2023 season was still very concerning and the start of 2024 wasn’t all that reassuring. What Sirianni was able to do during the bye week, and how he was able to motivate his players through some adversity at various times this season, should absolutely be celebrated.

The head coach continues to find the balance between being emotional, and true to himself, but to also reserve some things in certain situations. It was obvious how much the players love him as they wrapped up the Super Bowl celebrations, with Sirianni giving out lots of hugs on the sideline.

Just like any family member, Sirianni might be a little crazy sometimes, but he’s our crazy. And he’ll be our crazy for at least the next several years.

Team statement from Jeffrey Lurie:

“As an organization, we have always strived to create a championship culture of sustained success. Nothing is more important to fostering such an environment than having tremendous leadership. Nick has embodied everything we were looking for in a head coach since we hired him four years ago. His authentic style of leadership, football intelligence, passion for the game, and growth mindset have helped to bring out the best in our team. I am excited for what the future holds for the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Joe Douglas is reportedly returning to the Eagles

NFL Combine

The Eagles’ former vice president of player personnel is returning to Philly after being fired by the New York Jets.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Joe Douglas “in a senior scouting role,” according to a report from the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.

Douglas returns to Philly after being fired as the New York Jets’ general manager last November. At the time, we wrote about how a reunion with the Eagles could be on the table:

Douglas obviously failed to replicate success in North Jersey with the Jets going 30-64 during his time there. He ultimately never managed to get the quarterback position right, which is kind of a big deal. The Jets’ ownership being bad is also kind of a problem.

Now that he’s unemployed, Douglas will likely be looking for a new (old?) landing spot. Is a return to Philly in the cards? Jeffrey Lurie has talked about the importance of Roseman stocking the front office pipeline.

Front office pipeline stocking is especially relevant for the Eagles right now after they lost at least three notable scouting department members this offseason. The Douglas return should help to offset some of what the Eagles lost in those departures.

While Douglas obviously failed to thrive as a GM, it’s not like he was the root of all the Jets’ issues. Everyone knows there are ownership issues there and that much is reflected by their longest active NFL playoff appearance drought, which dates back to 2010.

Douglas initially earned interest as a GM candidate by having success with both the Baltimore Ravens and then the Eagles. He served as Philly’s vice president of player personnel from 2016-2019 and contributed to the team’s Super Bowl LII success.

And so there’s reason to believe Douglas returning to the Eagles is a good thing for the Birds.

The Linc - Sore loser Packers submit revised tush push ban proposal

NFC Wild Card Playoffs: Green Bay Packers v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/20/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Packers submit revised proposal to ban tush push play ahead of Spring League Meeting - NFL.com
On the eve of the Spring League Meeting, an alteration has been introduced to one of the most anticipated decisions on a potential rule change. A revised proposal to ban the tush push play has been submitted by the Green Bay Packers, the NFL announced Monday. A discussion and potential vote on the fate of the tush push is expected this week after it was tabled during the Annual League Meeting on April 1. In the updated proposal, pushing or pulling a runner “in any direction at any time” or lifting him to his feet would be banned, which offers a broader stance harkening back to the ruleset from the league’s start through 2005, as noted by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. Therefore, if passed, the tush push would be banned along with any play in which a runner is pushed, pulled or lifted. Hence the proposal is now purposed as banning “assisting the runner.”

Packers revise tush-push proposal to ban all pushing of the runner - PFT
Here’s what will happen if this passes. First, although there may be an early effort to police downfield pushing early in the 2025 season at the direction of 345 Park Avenue, officials will go back to not calling a foul for assisting the runner. (It last happened in the 1991 playoffs, with a flag thrown against Tim Grunhard in a game between the Chiefs and Bills.) Second, the Eagles will still run a largely unstoppable quarterback sneak without the pushing of the tush. But, hey, the powers-that-be (possibly starting with the guys whose autograph is on every football) don’t like the tush push. It doesn’t look like football. It poses a safety risk, despite all evidence to the contrary. So it will be gone. It will create a horrible precedent. The league is coming up with phony reasons for banning a play that someone doesn’t like. And it raises an obvious question: What’s next? The lesson to all teams is simple. Keep on innovating. But beware. If you come up with something so good that it can’t be copied, they’ll find a way to stop you from doing it.

Item (d) would outlaw both double team blocks (since they’re not individual) and play fakes of any sort (since deception is assisting the runner other than by blocking).

To fix this, let me reword the Packers’ proposal less ambiguously for them:

“We are lowly sore losers.” https://t.co/Y1yGnaND27

NFL owners to vote on 2 rule changes and 1 important resolution at spring meeting - SB Nation
The Packers’ justification for the rule change is “player safety” and “pace of play.” Banning the play came close to being passed at the winter meetings, but some members of the competition committee voiced concerns that the previous verbiage was too explicit in singling out one or two teams who use the play — and they’re obviously referring to the Eagles and Bills, the two teams who use the play the most. Indications point to this revised wording passing on the second attempt. It will have a profound effect on the Philadelphia offense specifically, and to a lesser extent Buffalo’s. However, there is concern that more and more teams are looking into integrating the ‘Tush Push’ into their playbooks, and this proliferation is something NFL leadership has indicated they want to stop.

With tush push ban vote likely looming Wednesday, the Eagles’ signature play is again in danger - Yahoo! Sports
And the May meetings offers a different environment from the wider-tent March meetings, which invites all head coaches and general managers to participate in rule change debates. The only coaches and general managers likely to be present for this meeting are the handful on the competition committee. One general manager predicted the league will pass a banning of all pushing and pulling of the ball carrier this week. “They’ll do a closed door vote and then the rules will change,” the general manager told Yahoo Sports. “Would be surprised if that didn’t happen.”

Commanders’ Frankie Luvu hopes NFL bans ‘cheapo’ tush push play - ESPN
“My personal opinion? I think they should ban it,” Luvu said in an interview with “Good Morning Football” on NFL Network. “But I know the argument’s going to be about, ‘Hey, you guys have to stop it. Don’t get us in short yardage,’ and whatnot. “But it’s kind of like a cheapo play. ... That’s pretty much a scrum in rugby. That’s how I kind of look at it. And we’ve got to have a scrum, too, on the other side. And the scrum is, we have a cadence where we all go at once. It’s not like you hard count and this and that, where now you’re getting us — or myself — jumping over the pile thinking that you’re going to snap the ball. That’s just my own personal opinion, and I’m going to leave it at that.”

10 players the Eagles can least afford to lose to injury - PhillyVoice
2) iDL Jalen Carter. Carter is the Eagles’ best defensive player, and he is quickly becoming one of the best players in the NFL. He faces constant double teams, and yet finds ways to make plays anyway, while allowing his defensive line teammates to capitalize favorable matchups. He make everyone’s job on the defense easier, and was the key to the Eagles’ No. 1 defensive ranking in 2024. 2024 rank: 4.

Nick Gets Paid - Iggles Blitz
It is hard to evaluate Sirianni. If you were starting a new franchise and could have any coach in the NFL, Sirianni wouldn’t be the first call. Andy Reid is the most accomplished coach in the league right now. John Harbaugh is a notch below him. Dan Campbell has done an amazing job with turning the Lions around. Kevin O’Connell has shown the ability to win with a variety of players. Mike Tomlin gets the most out of his players and has had a terrific career. Sean McDermott is great, until he plays Patrick Mahomes in January. Where does Sirianni fit in that group? You can make all kinds of arguments based on various criteria. The argument for him focuses on the stats listed above. Sirianni also really connects with his players. There is real value in that in today’s game. The argument against Sirianni isn’t simple. His winning has involved great coordinators and great players. How would Sirianni fare with mediocre talent? Someone like Mike Vrabel can get a team to overachieve. The other issue with Sirianni is antics. He’s had multiple incidents with yelling at fans. The passion and emotion that make him so good can undermine him at times. Sirianni is trying to tone that down, but you don’t want him to lose his identity.

11 mind-blowing stats that show how successful Nick Sirianni has been - NBCSP
8. Not only is Sirianni the only coach in Eagles history with a winning percentage over .700, he’s the only one with a winning percentage over .600. Other than interim coaches, the next-highest winning percentage in franchise history belongs to Greasy Neale, the one-time Phillies outfielder who coached the Eagles from 1941 through 1950 and had a .594 winning percentage.

Eagles sign Nick Sirianni to multi-year contract extension: 5 thoughts on why now, the Super Bowl-winning coach’s career, what’s next - PHLY
5. Unlike player contracts, coach contracts tend to be awarded based on past performance, not future performance. But Sirianni must continue to grow, just as he’s done throughout the past four seasons. I’d expect his messaging to be focused on how the Eagles are at the same spot as every other team, and the climb begins all over again. My guess is there is a focus on evolution — both with schemes and habits — with the understanding that they were too stagnant after the last Super Bowl appearance. And it’s incumbent upon Sirianni to ensure that he keeps a high-caliber staff and there are no lapses in player development. Pat Riley wrote about the “Disease of Me” — the challenge of dealing with success. Sirianni must guard against it. Lurie is a respected boss, but he’s also a proactive one. He dismissed Doug Pederson three seasons after winning the Super Bowl. He moved on from Andy Reid, who was the most successful coach in franchise history. Sirianni earned this contract, but he’s not a Supreme Court justice. The Eagles must continue to win. Sirianni has proven he can make that happen

2025 NFL Betting: Best bets to make, miss the playoffs by division - PFF
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles -430, Washington Commanders -132, Dallas Cowboys +176, New York Giants +820. Best Bet: Washington Commanders to make the playoffs. Even after the Commanders made the NFC Championship game last season, the betting markets aren’t expecting them to be a shoo-in to make the playoffs in 2025. Part of that muted optimism comes from playing in a division with the defending Super Bowl champions, and the possibility of a sophomore slump from Jayden Daniels after CJ Stroud struggled in his second season last year. But Washington upgraded its No. 2 wide receiver position in a big way by trading for Deebo Samuel, and the team made some key additions along the offensive line in free agency and the draft. While the defense still has some question marks, Daniels and the offense should be explosive enough to lead the Commanders to the postseason again in Year 2.

Post-draft review: Looking at how the Cowboys addressed the most concerning areas of their roster - Blogging The Boys
RB1 - STILL UNCERTAIN. The team insists they love Javonte Williams. There is certainly a range of outcomes that have him being an effective grinder in the backfield, especially if he looks closer to what he did in his rookie season before he suffered his own knee injury. But that’s a big if. Even though it took them to the fifth round, the Cowboys did finally address the running back position in the draft with the selection of Jaydon Blue. The good news is that this was a deep running back class, so there was still some decent talent that late in the draft. The combo of Williams and Blue offers something to be hopeful of and could prove effective if the additions they made to the offensive line in both coaching (Klayton Adams) and personnel (Tyler Booker) are true difference makers.

Eagles Film Review: Smael Mondon Jr. has the traits to develop into more than a backup

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl

Vasha Hunt-Imagn Images

A closer look at Philadelphia’s fifth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Strengths

+ He has outstanding range and speed to run sideline-to-sideline. His closing burst is great and he has the athleticism to play in space.

Smael Mondon Jr. was drafted in round 5 pick 161 in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 9.42 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 188 out of 3204 LB from 1987 to 2025. https://t.co/MoHmPuqHKK pic.twitter.com/smozNiHnjR

— RAS.football (@MathBomb) April 26, 2025

+ He does a lot of things well. He can blitz, handle man coverage, and drop into coverage comfortably. Georgia asked him to do a lot of things and his speed allows him to be used in different ways.

+ Explosive in pursuit due to his burst. He can chase down plays from behind and does well to avoid contact with linemen and burst through gaps. This is something he has to do at his size.

Georgia LB Smael Mondon is a fun watch. Played all over the Georgia defense, lining up at WILL, edge, and even out in the nickel as a Star defender.

Strong coverage player with good eyes and feel. Think he can be a solid sub package player on day one pic.twitter.com/69BeBKAwCq

+ He wraps up well consistently and is a good tackler in the open field. He’s not a liability against the run despite being undersized.

+ He moves and looks like a top athlete. I know you can’t judge someone by a jump, but he can jump!

Weaknessess

- Multiple lower-body injuries going back to high school.

- He has an extremely light and thin frame. His lean build limits his effectiveness in stacking and shedding in tight quarters. It may prevent him from ever being a starter.

- He has the tools and quickness to drop into coverage, but lacks production and anticipation in zone and man. He’s around the ball but doesn’t make enough plays in coverage.

- He can get lost against misdirection or traffic and can sometimes be slow to diagnose.

- He has the speed to blitz effectively, but often struggles to fight through contact. He needs a clear lane to excel. This relates to his size and inability to take on guards physically.

Overall

I watched Mondon pre-draft and was a fan of his. I had a 4th round grade on him and said the following:

Overall: Mondon is a versatile linebacker with tools but still needs to refine his processing and physicality against the run. He has the length and range to be a starting-caliber linebacker, but his issues need a lot of work. He projects more as a rotational piece and a strong special teams player in the early stages of his career

Eagles Thoughts: Mondon would likely fit into the Eagles’ defense as a rotational linebacker and special teams contributor. Fangio would like his ability to play in coverage, but he would need to sit for a little bit while he develops against the run. I wouldn’t consider him until day 3.

After watching him again, I still feel pretty good about the pick. I don’t think his film is as good as Jeremiah Trotter Junior’s, but he will compete with him for the backup linebacker spot. He’s a very different player to Trotter. Mondon is far more athletic and explosive, but I think Trotter has better instincts. I think Trotter will win that job, personally, as he’s a better player right now. Regardless of whether Mondon wins that job early on, I think he is going to excel on special teams.

I think Mondon is an interesting option as a subpackage defender early in his career. He has legitimate speed and athleticism, and Vic Fangio might use him sparingly in obvious passing downs where he can drop into coverage or blitz from depth. I am always a fan of having aggressive and fast options on defense, and Mondon gives the defense and special teams unit another young, fast option. It’s hard to complain about this one! If he can get physically stronger and bigger, he has the traits to develop into more than a backup. I’ll be interested to watch his development over the next few years.

Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to comment below and ask any questions. If you enjoyed this piece, you can find more of my work and podcast here.

For the record, the Tush Push is not what makes the Eagles successful

NFL: JAN 19 NFC Divisional Playoff - Rams at Eagles

Photo by Terence Lewis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

It’s more helpful as a morale crusher than a life-saving play, but whatever!

The Green Bay Packers lose to the Eagles again.

Falling two votes shy needed to ban the Tush Push, the NFL must, for one more year at least, deal with the indignity of being bullied by the league’s most unstoppable play.

You know, at least when the Eagles run it.

In a stroke of pure, blissful pettiness, the team posted a 26-minute YouTube video of nothing but Tush Push plays in the wake of the vote, a vote that temporarily ends the most ridiculous controversy in professional sports.

For the amount of publicity and attention the Tush Push gets, it’s hard to believe it’s simply a one-yard play. And while it’s wonderful there were 10 owners who sided with Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman and Jason Kelce to keep the play street legal for 2025, it should be noted that its importance to the Eagles’ success over the last three seasons is perhaps a smidge overblown.

Folks, the Tush Push is a one yard play.

That’s it. One yard.

The Tush Push is nothing if you can’t get the other nine yards you need for the first down. The Tush Push is nothing if you can’t matriculate down to the one-yard line with any consistency. The Tush Push is nothing unless you’re a highly functional offense overall.

Yes, the Eagles execute this play better than any other in the NFL. They practice it a lot. They’ve perfected it. They have a unique personnel set that enables them to pull it off. They have one of the largest, most athletic offensive lines in football, a quarterback with the lower body strength of a running back, and an offensive line coach/run game coordinator that may be the very best who’s ever done it.

But this is also an offense that features Saquon Barkley, a 2,000 yard rusher and Offensive Player of the Year. Before that, it featured a run game that featured Miles Sanders, D’Andre Swift, Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott, and other committee members that provided solid production, not to mention one of the most dynamic running quarterbacks in the league. They have perhaps the best wide receiving duo in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, a top-10 tight end in Dallas Goedert, and a system in which everyone is familiar and comfortable with what they’re supposed to do.

The Tush Push is a wonderful security blanket. Knowing you’re going to convert that one yard 95% of the time allows the Eagles a little more flexibility on early downs.

But flash back to the end of the 2023 season as the Eagles turned a 10-1 start into an 11-6 collapse and a humiliating first-round playoff defeat in Tampa. There was no hand-wringing, no rule being drawn up, no secret meeting in some dark basement being had to eliminate this one-yard play.

When the offense struggled to move the ball and the defense was getting gashed on a regular basis, the Tush Push became an afterthought. The Tush Push couldn’t save the Eagles from their late-2023 spiral.

Why? Because it’s a one-yard play.

The Eagles are successful not because of the Tush Push, but because they’re good at everything else. They’re good at drafting. They’re good at developing young players. They’re good at messaging. They’re good at locker room chemistry. They’re good at keeping players healthy. They’re good at free agent signing. They’re good at trades. They’re great at quarterback, at running back, at wide receiver, at offensive line, on defense, and special teams.

There’s no doubt the Tush Push is a valuable weapon in short yardage situations, but it’s more a morale killer than anything else. It’s a soul crusher, and that’s what teams don’t like. They can’t do it themselves, and they can’t stop the Eagles from doing it. It’s sour grapes, and the transparency of their hollow arguments was laid bare for all to see.

There was never a logical reason to ban the Tush Push. There is no great injury risk, at least not yet, and there is only a pace of play issue when Frankie Luvu is acting like a moron. It is simply a one-yard play that teams other teams have tried to utilize but simply can’t make work.

For one more year, the Eagles will Push on, and the rest of the league will stress about the most controversial one-yard play in NFL history.
