Post-NFL draft breakout candidates for all 32 teams - PFF
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: S Sydney Brown. Brown will have some competition for a starting role after the team drafted Andrew Mukuba in the third round of this year’s draft, but Brown – a 2023 third-round pick – has seniority and experience in the NFL and in Vic Fangio’s defense, which should give him the upper hand. Brown took on a starting role as a rookie before suffering an injury, which led to just one start in 2024, coming in Week 18 when he posted a 92.0 overall grade and 90.4 coverage grade.

One down, one major one to go. The Eagles contractually locked in tight end Dallas Goedert for another year this week. He was about to enter a lame duck season, on the final year of a four-year contract that reportedly paid him $14 million per season. ESPN’s Field Yates reported this past Wednesday that his new deal will pay him $10 million this season, with the chance to earn $1 million more if he meets incentives. That seemed to be the hard part of the Eagles’ offseason, since Goedert had been the subject of trade rumors. Now comes what should be the easy part: Locking up Super Bowl-winning head coach Nick Sirianni, who this coming 2025 season will be in the final year of his contract. It seems a foregone conclusion that it will get done. But when? What’s the holdup?

Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:00 p.m. ET. If we are having an AFC Championship Game rematch, why not an NFC Championship Game rematch to cap off the tripleheader? Last year, the Washington Commanders stunned everyone around the league with a magical ride to the NFC Championship Game, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. His success put the Commanders in position to build around him this offseason and Washington has done exactly that, adding talented players such as Deebo Samuel, Laremy Tunsil, Deatrich Wise, Javon Kinlaw, and Jonathan Jones in free agency, and then incoming rookies such as Josh Conerly Jr., Trey Amoe, and Jalyin Lane. This improved Commanders roster should get a shot at a rematch against the Eagles in prime time on Christmas night.

Reed Blankenship hasn’t yet been extended and theoretically the other two have the most athletic upside. [...] I’m mildly surprised that Blankenship hasn’t gotten a deal done yet, but I still expect that to happen at some point this offseason. Above I was asked who the most underrated Eagle is. I think Blankenship is a little underrated, too. He’s a sure tackler and he gets his hands on a lot of footballs (7 INTs, 17 PBUs the last two seasons).

Dallas has a franchise QB. They have a handful of other stars. But the roster also had clear holes. The only way for them to truly compete with the Eagles was to take some chances. Pickens is a very talented receiver. He’s got enormous potential. He also has real issues. Pickens fell out of the first round in the draft because coaches and teammates were critical of him. The Steelers, who don’t have a lot of offensive weapons, were willing to walk away from Pickens for a future pick because they got tired of his act. He’s also in the final year of his contract so Dallas might only have him for a season. Lots of risk. There is a big reward if he is focused and quits with the nonsense. He just hasn’t done that in a while. Pickens does a really good job of working the sidelines and going downfield. Combine that with CeeDee Lamb working the middle of the field and Dak Prescott could put up some big numbers. Prescott needs protection. Dallas took OG Tyler Booker in the first round. Booker will line up across from Jalen Carter. I don’t think Dallas wanted to put just anyone in that spot.

Still, Williams’ physical traits make him the type of young, moldable offensive tackle prospect the Eagles should be adding to Stoutland’s room. If he can make strides from a technique standpoint and continue improving his feel for the position to cut down on the penalties, he has all the tools to become an NFL starter down the road. The flashes were there in his college tape. It just depends on how big a leap he can take now that he’s enrolled in Stoutland University.
49ers sign a former 1st and 3rd round pick at offensive tackle - Niners Nation
The 49ers also announced the signing of offensive tackles Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere, as well as cornerback Dallis Flowers. We discussed Petit-Frere in May as being a potential addition to the roster when the Tennessee Titans. Petit-Frere has struggled in pass protection since entering the NFL. His 10% pressure rate allowed is the second-highest among tackles with at least 500 pass-blocking snaps. In 2024, he allowed 11 sacks with the worst blown block percentage in the NFL. It’s a way for the 49ers to find a way to find competition for Colton McKivitz. The former third-rounder is a buy-low option with minimal risk. Dillard was a first-rounder in 2019. He spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before spending a year with the Titans and the Green Bay Packers last year. Dillard started ten games with the Titans at left tackle in 2023. He surrendered ten sacks. So, the 49ers have multiple bodies to cycle through at offensive tackle in case Trent Williams doesn’t stay healthy or push McKivitz.

I feel very comfortable with our two-deep heading into the 2025 season. Martin could be poised for a big year, and I think Harris is a significant coverage upgrade over Jeremy Chinn (who had some lapses in this area last season). The wild card here for me is Tyler Owens. His size, athleticism and playmaking ability could be a major factor on the back end of this defense (and as a dime linebacker). I have him listed as a strong safety, but I believe he could play both. What intrigues me the most about this unit is the speed and athleticism. All of the projected contributors (with the exception of Reaves) are 4.4 or better guys with good versatility. Although I would not be comfortable listing safety as a strength, I feel it is far from a weakness, and is an intriguing area to watch this summer during training camp.

Jayden Daniels knows the risk. C.J. Stroud, Ja’Marr Chase, Dak Prescott and Robert Griffin III all won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors before Daniels claimed the award this past season. All four — and many of their less-decorated draft classmates — took a step back in various production and efficiency metrics during their second pro season. The sophomore slump in the NFL threatens perennially. It doesn’t discriminate. Defensive coordinators have a season’s worth of tape and an offseason of analysis to study rookies and strategize with a depth that game-planning against first-year players doesn’t allow. So as Daniels prepares for his second season at the Washington Commanders’ helm, he’s not shying away from that risk. He’s embracing it. And aiming to thwart it. “I’m sitting down and watching film and trying to eliminate some tendencies, as much as possible,” Daniels told Yahoo Sports this week over Zoom. “Talking to the coaching staff on areas that they feel like I need to improve on and having conversations so we can all hit at full speed.”

Dak Prescott. This season Dak Prescott makes his return after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. Prescott was heading into last season coming off of one the best seasons of his career when he threw for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns versus only nine interceptions, resulting in an All-Pro selection. Recently, Prescott looks to be in great shape. However, there’s a bit of concern about how Prescott looked before suffering his injury. Prescott had a career-low passer rating and was inconsistent in the eight games he was active. Of course, the big question is - Can Prescott deliver in the postseason? Prescott is closing in on franchise passing records but the main goal eluding him and the team is making it to an NFC conference championship appearance, they are the only NFC team to not have accomplished that since 1995. After being handsomely rewarded with a four-year, $240M contract, Prescott is the leader of the team for the foreseeable future. However, everything hinges on him remaining healthy.
George Pickens trade: Grades for Cowboys, Steelers in WR deal - ESPN
But this move is not made only on paper. A big part of the reason Pickens is available is it seems the Steelers had had enough of him. After Pickens had two unsportsmanlike penalties against the Bengals last season, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said, “He’s got a target on his back because he’s George; he understands that. But he’s got to grow up. He’s got to grow up in a hurry.” Then, after the season, Tomlin said, “There’s certainly obviously more room for growth there.” Earlier in the season, there were questions over Pickens’ effort, too, though Tomlin dismissed those concerns at the time. The risk here is mitigated by the one-year commitment, and if I were the Cowboys, I would want to keep it that way. They should let him play out the season and probably let him walk next offseason in exchange for the possibility of a compensatory pick. If Dallas signs Pickens to an extension before the 2025 season, I would substantially reduce its grade here.

Jaxson Dart was already leading his New York Giants teammates, though many of those are only temporary, before stepping on the field for Friday’s first of two rookie minicamp practices. Dart and his teammates received the script for Friday’s abbreviated 7-on-7 session during a Thursday meeting. On the bus back to the hotel following the meeting, Dart gathered “as many guys as I could together on the offensive side of the ball and go through it and teach everybody, making sure that we’re all on the same page.” “As a quarterback, you’re the one that runs the ship when you’re out there,” Dart said. “If you don’t know the ins and outs of everything, you’re not going to have everybody around you prepared. I think that’s super important. “It’s very important to have that mindset coming to work each and every day. I think that also raises the bar for everybody around you. I think that if you want to be a great team and you want to compete at the highest level, that’s definitely how you have to be as a quarterback.”
