Zack Baun wants to build off the confidence he played with at the end of 2024

Baun.0.jpeg

The Eagles’ linebacker didn’t want to go anywhere else in free agency, and was able to work with the organization to get a new deal done as quickly as possible.

The Eagles made it a point of emphasis to re-sign Zack Baun before the linebacker hit free agency, and the feeling was mutual. Baun spoke to reporters after signing his new deal and explained how Philly was where he wanted to be in 2025 and beyond.

“I really actually didn’t want to leave. What we built here, the culture here. Honestly, now that I’m thinking about it, I’m just a piece of the puzzle that was put into a great culture already established — from the people that work here, to the systems in place.

Everything I felt here this past year, just felt right for me and my family, as well. So, really didn’t want to leave and just appreciated everything we built.”

Baun explained that he looks at all the new pieces they had last year, both players and coaches, and him moving to a new position, and is impressed with what they were able to do in one offseason. But, with last season just being their starting point, he’s excited to see how he’s able to develop individually, and the evolution of the defense as a whole.

He later said that when he looks at his highlight tape, it’s hard not to focus on the plays that weren’t up to his standard — so even in games they won by 30 points, he was more focused on the two or three plays he made mistakes on. Because of this kind of attention to perfection, he still thinks there’s a lot of room for personal development even after an All-Pro year.

“I feel like at the end of the season I was playing so confidently, that I knew I was going to make a play, I just didn’t know what it was going to be or when or where. But I’m excited to build off that confidence and continue to find myself in this scheme.”

The linebacker talked about wanting to step up into more of a leadership role, and that’s something he wanted to do aside from Brandon Graham retiring and other veterans leaving. He noted that he wants to have a voice that’s impactful to the defense and the team.

As for how the contract negotiations went before he hit free agency, Baun said that he was working with Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni, and Vic Fangio, because they knew he wanted to be in Philly, and he knew they wanted him back. He said that it was all about working together to find something that worked for both parties. Baun was adamant that he’s very glad they got a deal done quickly and that he’s staying with the Eagles.

The Linc - Forecasting Jalen Carter’s future contract extension

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/23/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Yes, Jalen Carter’s extension will be over $40M a year… and worth it - Philly Cover Corner
Most view Chris Jones as the best DT in the league and he is statistically, but Carter is right with him. Both face double-team rates above 70%, well ahead of the other top contract guys, and both still produce at a silly rate. Carter is first in forced fumbles, batted passes, and TFLs, second in hits and hurries, a near 13% win rate and over 10% pressure rate. And you don’t need stats if you just watch him to see how absolutely dominant he is and how much better he makes the line around him (Milt made way more money because of Jalen). While you can argue Jones may be the better player right now, what I don’t think you can argue is who will be the more valuable contract. Carter is going to sign his extension at age 25 (including his 5th year option), five full years ahead of Chris Jones’ massive deal.

Adoree’ Jackson said watching the Eagles’ rookie cornerbacks thrive last season made him smile - BGN
The Eagles added veteran CB Adoree’ Jackson to the secondary, and he spoke to reporters after arriving to Philly to sign his new contract. He considered signing with the Eagles the last time he hit free agency coming out of Tennessee, but explained that he chose the Giants because of the familiarity with so many players and staff. Jackson named guys like Saquon Barkley and James Bradberry as reasons he signed with New York, but noted he didn’t talk to Bradberry before signing with the Eagles. Jackson did, however, talk to Barkley, and the RB told him that everyone in that locker room competes at everything they do, and that was all his former teammate needed to hear. Jackson said that whether it’s rock paper scissors, cards, or swimming, he wants to compete and be around guys who feel the same way.

Roob’s Observations: A critical roster question the Eagles need to answer - NBCSP
1. Losing Fred Johnson is an under-rated significant loss because Big Fred played well in his five starts this past year – one at right tackle, four at left tackle – and his departure leaves the Eagles without a clear successor as that third tackle who can play on either side. Johnson, who turns 28 in June, signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars, where he’ll get an opportunity to compete for a starting spot, something he obviously wasn’t going to get here. Who are the candidates to replace him? Brett Toth has been on and off the Eagles’ roster and practice squad since 2019 – and has also spent time with the Cards and Panthers – but he’s only started one meaningful game in his career, and that was in 2023 in Carolina. But he’s a Jeff Stoutland favorite and can play guard or tackle and anybody the Eagles invest this much time in could be in the mix. Darian Kinnard, the Chiefs’ 5th-round pick in 2022, was on the roster all last year but didn’t play any meaningful snaps. But they kept him on the 53, which tells you something. Tyler Steen has tackle in his background so maybe if he doesn’t win the right guard job he could get a look as a backup to Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. There’s also Jack Driscoll, who started four games at right tackle in 2020, one in 2021, two in 2022 and one in 2023 as well as a game at left tackle in 2022 and nine games at guard. But he’s coming off a serious ankle injury and he’s also a free agent and probably more of a guard these days anyway. Who’s the favorite? Probably someone who’s not here yet, either a cheap veteran with some experience or a rookie draft pick. It’s not an ideal situation, but when you have Stout on your side you know he’ll figure it out.

Four-round 2025 NFL mock draft: Three QBs taken in top seven picks; Steelers select RB in first round - NFL.com
No. 26) Walter Nolan. PROJECTED TRADE WITH LOS ANGELES RAMS. Why change something that works? Philadelphia moves up in Round 1 for a defensive lineman once again — after doing so to acquire Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis — plugging Nolen into the void left by free-agent departure Milton Williams. The Eagles give the Rams their late third-round pick and one of four fifth-rounders in order to move up six spots, while also receiving a sixth-round pick from Los Angeles in the deal.

Grading the NFC East offenses pre-draft: Who is the top dog? - Hogs Haven
There is no doubt the Commanders significantly upgraded their offense so far this offseason. The additions of Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil were two huge moves. Acquiring Tunsil also allows second-year lineman Brandon Coleman to move to either right tackle or guard, thus strengthening another position along the offensive line. Both Zach Ertz and John Bates were re-signed and both figure to play key roles in 2025. Still, significant holes remain at running back, wide receiver and on the offensive line. Washington currently holds just two top 100 picks in next month’s draft. It remains to be seen which side of the ball Adam Peters will focus on, and if he trades back in round one to get some more picks. Below is how each NFC East team’s offense looks on paper prior to the NFL Draft, with corresponding grades for each position and an overall grade for their current offense.

3 Cowboys under the most pressure to perform in 2025 - Blogging The Boys
1) QB Dak Prescott. When you’re the star quarterback of America’s Team, there will always be immense pressure to deal with. Dak Prescott is no stranger to this, and the 31-year-old signal-caller will again be under pressure to perform in 2025. Prescott is coming off one of the most disappointing seasons of his nine-year NFL career. While a mid-season hamstring injury did limit him to playing in just eight games, his performance during those eight contests was subpar for his standards. On the year, Prescott completed just 64.7% of his passes, the second-lowest mark of his career. His Passer Rating (86.0) and QBR (45.3) followed suit, both the worst he has put on record since entering the league back in 2016. He also finished 25th in the NFL in EPA+CPOE (0.050/min 250 snaps) and 22nd in EPA/Play (0.018). Plenty of contributing factors led to Prescott’s down year, and the lack of impact moves last offseason set him and the rest of Dallas’ offense up for failure from the start. The Cowboys have still need to make some moves on the offensive side of the ball yet, but there seems to be a strong belief they will add a few playmakers to help make Prescott’s job easier in the draft. No matter who’s lining up beside him, as long as he’s the starting quarterback, Dak Prescott will always be the most scrutinized and under-pressure player on the Cowboys’ roster.

New York Giants free agency: WR Zach Pascal signs with Giants - Big Blue View
Veteran wide receiver Zach Pascal is signing a one-year contract with the New York Giants, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo. Pascal, 30, is a seven-year veteran who spent four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, one with the Philadelphia Eagles and the last two years with the Arizona Cardinals. Giants wide receivers coach Mike Groh was was Pascal in Indianapolis in 2020 and 2021 when he caught a combined 82 passes.

NFC East 2025 free agency grades: New York Giants edition - PhillyVoice
They started by going after Matthew Stafford, who took substantially less money to stay in L.A. with the Rams than come to New Jersey. They then moved on to Plan B, which sadly, was a 41-year-old washed, insufferable Aaron Rodgers, who very clearly has several teams higher on his wish list than the Giants. It’s unclear if the Giants had a Plan C, D, E, or F higher on their list than Jameis Winston, who signed with the team on a two-year deal worth $8 million. But if that’s the veteran quarterback they settle on, it’s actually probably the best outcome for them. Yes, Winston stinks, but who cares? The Giants aren’t going anywhere in 2025, and he’s cheap and fun. He would at least bring some entertainment value to what is very likely going to be another losing season. They would also of course almost certainly draft a quarterback with a premium pick, whether that’s at No. 3 overall or a trade up. In a way, because the Giants are so unappealing to players around the league, it forced them into not wasting a lot of financial resources on a quarterback who isn’t going to further their long-term interests. Disclaimer: If the Giants subsequently sign Rodgers or Russell Wilson or something to some idiotic contract, we will update our grade. Grade: C+

Let’s fight: What should Cleveland Browns do with NFL Draft’s No. 2 overall pick? - SB Nation
As we get closer and closer to the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, it feels like the Tennessee Titans’ decision at No. 1 overall is coming into focus. After a flurry of ... let’s just say ... interesting free agent moves, it seems like the Titans are going to pick Miami QB Cam Ward. Although they could surprise by picking Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter at 1 (which makes a lot of sense considering their major gap on the edge), most pundits have the belief that Ward will be the first player off the board. Which leaves us at No. 2 with the Cleveland Browns. The draft really starts here, but Cleveland has done a great job of holding their cards close to their chest, not really displaying what they truly want to do. So, let’s go through and break down all the potential options they have.

Eagles sign veteran offensive tackle

Las Vegas Raiders v Miami Dolphins

Philadelphia is adding a potential Fred Johnson replacement.

The Philadelphia Eagles hosted free agent offensive tackle Kendall Lamm on a free agent visit at the NovaCare Complex on Monday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. UPDATE: The Eagles are signing Lamm, according to a report from Peter Schrager.

Lamm, who turns 33 in June, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Since then, he’s logged 45 starts in 127 career games played (including playoffs) for the combination of the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins.

Lamm most recently made seven starts for the Dolphins in 2024. He ranked 33rd out of 85 offensive tackles graded by Pro Football Focus last season. Over the course of his career, he’s often graded out better as a pass protector than a run blocker.

Lamm is coming off a season-ending back injury that reportedly required surgery. The Eagles may have brought him to Philly to check up on his medical situation.

Assuming no major medical red flags, signing Lamm makes sense for the Eagles since Philly just lost swing tackle Fred Johnson to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Lamm has extensive playing at both left and right tackle.

Here are his career snap counts by position:

Left tackle — 1,003
Left guard — 1
Right tackle — 1,731

And by season:

2015 — LT 1, RT 116
2016 — LT 40, RT 26
2017 — LT 129
2018 — LT 1, RT 927
2019 — LT 3, LG 1, RT 78
2020 — LT 129, RT 50
2021 — LT 78
2022 — LT 32
2023 — LT 520, RT 93
2024 — LT 70, RT 441

The Eagles signing Lamm doesn’t necessarily preclude them from adding an offensive tackle in the 2025 NFL Draft who could compete for the swing tackle role. But it does give them some valuable veteran depth in case a rookie (or someone else unproven like Darian Kinnard) doesn’t step up and seize that job.

Eagles host Eagles edge rusher on pre-draft visit

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 24 Miami (FL) at Boston College

Photo by M. Anthony Nesmith/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Philadelphia has been commonly linked to the Boston College prospect.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting Boston College Eagles edge rusher and Williamstown, New Jersey native Donovan Ezeiruaku on a pre-draft visit, according to a report from SportsRadio 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Ezeiruaku has been a popular mock draft pick for the Birds with their first-round pick at No. 32 overall. He’s the No. 16 prospect ranked by Pro Football Focus and the No. 28 by Daniel Jeremiah.

Appearing in 47 games over the span of four years at BC, Ezeiruaku logged 47 TFLs, 21 sacks, and eight forced fumbles. The 21-year-old was especially productive as a senior last year when he had 21 TFLs and 16.5 sacks. Those are some eye-popping numbers.

One of the knocks on Ezeiruaku is that he’s on the smaller side for his position, measuring in at 6’2”, 248 pounds.

Donovan Ezeiruaku is a DE prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 7.98 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 370 out of 1829 DE from 1987 to 2025.

Pro day pending for remaining tests.https://t.co/ryhFgIbTdJ pic.twitter.com/pg7GPoxdo4

— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) March 12, 2025

Of course, Eagles 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith was even smaller at 6’2”, 238 pounds. But Smith also posted truly elite athletic testing numbers. Ezeiruaku isn’t quite on the same level as Smith in that regard.

Nevertheless, Ezeiruaku certainly seems to be a player that the Eagles might end up drafting. The Birds can afford to add another edge rusher to their rotation after losing Brandon Graham to retirement and Josh Sweat to free agency.

Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

Slightly undersized outside linebacker for a 3-4 front with long arms and plus athleticism. Ezeiruaku uses every bit of his length paired with aggression to mitigate size differences at the point of attack. He gets engulfed at times but typically separates from or slips blocks cleanly. He’s quick off the snap, using bend and agility to win at the top of the rush or make stops in the backfield. His hands exploit small advantages to turn them into big ones and he has a variety of ways to challenge protection, though he’s still learning to craft his plans. Ezeiruaku’s play demeanor, skill and athletic talent are the underpinnings of a productive starter with three-down value.

2025 NFL mock draft signup for the annual BGN community mock is coming soon!

Syndication: Wilmington News Journal

Benjamin Chambers/Delaware News Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

***Read this post carefully!***

The BGN Community Mock Draft is back for another year! The actual 2025 NFL Draft start date, April 24, is four weeks away, so we’re just about ready to begin. Please make sure to check out the rules below.

In 2024, BGN member Philly21 finished as champion with a 91.14% approval rating by having the Titans take Joe Alt. As the winner, they will own the rightful claim to their choice of the Philadelphia Eagles’ first-round pick at No. 32 (Birds won Super Bowl LIX).

Who will be the winner this year?! It’s anyone’s guess, but you have to play to win, so get those keyboards ready. There are only so many spots up for grabs (31 to be exact).

REMINDER: The selection process doesn’t start until Friday, March 28 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. This is just a “HEADS UP” post to give everyone a fair shot at getting their team of choice.

READ THE RULES

  • Just like in the past, this year’s process will start at a specific time: Friday, March 28 at 2:00 PM ET, to be exact. If you want to be assigned to a pick, there are two things you need to do:

1) Before commenting, make sure the email address attached to your SB Nation account profile is up to date and available to be reached by me. That’s how I’ll be reaching out to you.

2) Comment below the article with the team and pick (No. X) you want.

TO REPEAT: ONCE YOUR PICK IS CLAIMED AND CONFIRMED by me in the official chart, I will contact you at the email address attached to your account. My work address is brandon.gowton@sbnation(dot)com. Please keep checking your email so that we can instantly get the process moving. If you do not receive an email invitation (within 60 minutes or so) to the Google doc from me after I have confirmed your pick in the chart, please contact me ASAP.

  • Teams will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. HOWEVER, you must have at least 300 comments or have been a member of BGN since January 1, 2025 in order to participate. (NOTE: this is a loose guideline more than a hard rule. Exceptions will be made as I see necessary.)
  • If you want a pick, don’t wait around! You can only pick one team/selection. If you’re requesting a team with more than one first-round pick, please be extra careful to specify the exact pick you want.
  • The first two selections will be posted to the front page on Monday, March 31. If you have the Tennessee Titans (No. 1) and Cleveland Browns (No. 2), BE PREPARED to email me your picks ASAP. Again: my e-mail is brandon.gowton@sbnation(dot)com.
  • With the exception of the very earliest picks, everyone’s pick will be due to me at least TWO DAYS before the pick is published on BGN’s front page. The exact schedule for when picks are DUE can be seen in the list at the bottom of this post.
  • Two picks will be posted every business day (Monday through Friday, no weekends) until we reach the end of our mock draft, which, conveniently enough, coincides with the beginning of draft week.
  • Standard fanpost etiquette applies - meaning please make your pick explanations at least 150 words long and give us a good effort. Punctuation is also appreciated.
  • If you want some examples of how the picks went down in previous years, [click here] and [here] [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here].
  • The winner of the mock (and the recipient of next year’s Eagles pick) will be determined by a community approval rating poll placed on each article. Don’t forget to vote!
  • No trades - sorry. (We will adjust the draft order as needed if impacted by more real life trades.)

Keep an eye out for the selection post last this week (Friday, March 28 at 2:00 PM ET). Best of luck to everyone! Let’s have fun.

Eagles 2018 draft pick returns to Philadelphia

Seattle Seahawks v Chicago Bears

The Birds are adding more offensive line depth.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent offensive lineman Matt Pryor, according to a report from the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.

Pryor is returning to Philly after originally being selected by the Eagles with a sixth-round pick (No. 206 overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made 10 starts in 27 games played with the Birds before he was traded (along with a 2022 seventh-round pick) to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2022 sixth-round pick (which was later included in the Eagles’ deal with the New Orleans Saints that ultimately landed Jalen Carter in midnight green).

Pryor spent two seasons with Indy, making 14 starts in 33 games played. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, playing just 42 offensive snaps as a backup for them. Pryor played for the Chicago Bears last season, where he logged 15 starts in 17 games played.

All told, Pryor has made 40 starts in 93 career games played (including playoffs). Pryor clearly hasn’t played well enough to maintain a long-term starting job (though PFF did have him graded 21st out of 79 guards last season) but he has the chance to be an experienced backup option for the Eagles. That is, if he doesn’t outright beat Tyler Steen for the right guard job.

Pryor also brings versatility to the table having played every offensive line spot except for center. Here’s a look at his career snap counts by position per season:

2018 — N/A
2019 — RG 139
2020 — LT 78, LG 47, RG 394, RT 254
2021 — LT 94, RG 69, RT 266
2022 — LT 249, RG 212, RT 113
2023 — LT 5, LG 11, RT 26
2024 — LT 1, LG 49, RG 895, RT 59

Totals — LT 427, LG 107, RG 1570, RT 718

Pryor is the second veteran addition to the Eagles’ offensive line this week. The team previously signed Kendall Lamm, who projects as a Fred Johnson replacement in the swing tackle role, on Monday.

Signing Lamm and Pryor gives the Birds more depth but it hardly precludes them from taking an offensive lineman early in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Eagles have been doing homework on top blocking prospects.

NFL Mock Draft 2025: Eagles 7-round simulation, Version 4.0

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 09 Michigan at Indiana

Photo by James Black/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

How would you grade this projection?

Welcome to this year’s Mock Simulation Series! Each week, I will run a simulation of the 2025 NFL draft using the Pro Football Focus Draft Simulator.

Round 1, Pick 32 (for the Super Bowl Winner): Colston Loveland, Tight End, Michigan

I now strongly believe one of the Eagles first two picks will be a tight end. If they hang around at 32, Colston Loveland makes a ton of sense for the offense. Loveland’s skill as a receiver would immediately make him one of the top three targets in the passing game.

Round 2, Pick 64: Josaiah Stewart, Edge Defender, Michigan

It only makes sense that the Eagles draft another undersized Michigan edge rusher after Brandon Graham retires. Josaiah Stewart is such a great pass rusher, he could make his entire NFL career as a third down specialist. If he can develop his game anymore into being a stronger run defender, the Eagles would have a steal on their hands.

Round 3, Pick 96: Andrew Mukuba, Defensive Back, Texas

Round three feels like a steal for Andrew Mukuba. Yes he is a bit small, but he has great instincts and excellent athleticism. Losing CJ Gardner Johnson leaves a big hole in the Eagles secondary. Mukuba could play free safety and drop down into the slot if necessary.

Round 4, Pick 134: Chase Lundt, Offensive Tackle, Connecticut

The Eagles are destined to take at least one offensive lineman at some point in this draft. Chase Lundt feels like a good bet for the mid rounds. Lundt has an enormous build at 6’8” with long arms. He is a bit light, but would be a great developmental project for Stoutland University.

Round 5, Pick 161: Nick Nash, Wide Receiver, San Jose State

The Eagles could go high for a receiver in this class, but drafting a pass catching tight end at 32 makes the need less pressing. Nick Nash is a great technician at receiver and would add a new skill set to the younger end of the depth chart for Philly. Given the amount of snaps Johnny Wilson saw as a rookie in 2024, Nick Nash could push for legit playing time.

Round 5, Pick 164: Denzel Burke, Cornerback, Ohio State

The loss of Darius Slay opens up a big hole across the field from Quinyon Mitchell. With Cooper DeJean doing his best work in the slot, the Eagles will probably draft another cornerback to compete with Kelee Ringo for the CB2 spot. Denzel Burke has the size and athleticism to play well at cornerback. Inconsistent play at Ohio State suggests he needs good coaching, but the talent is very much there.

Round 5, Pick 165: Connor Colby, Guard, Iowa

Another big bodied offensive lineman that gives the Eagles some depth at guard.

Round 5 Pick, Pick 168: Tonka Hemingway, Defensive Line, South Carolina

This will be a trenches draft for the Eagles and it’s a good class to need to reload on the big boys. Tonka Hemingway is an adept pass rushing interior lineman that could rotate in with Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo.

The Linc - “Nick Sirianni isn’t getting enough credit for the coaching job he did” in 2024

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/30/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

The Man - Iggles Blitz
My biggest takeaway is that Nick Sirianni isn’t getting enough credit for the coaching job he did. Saquon Barkley had one of the great seasons in NFL history. Jalen Hurts came up big when the team needed him. Zack Baun became an All-Pro linebacker. Jalen Carter did his impression of a one-man wrecking ball. Player after player had amazing seasons. Those guys deserve a ton of credit. Vic Fangio turned the 30th ranked defense into the NFL’s best. The assisted coaches did a great job with player development. Kellen Moore, known for his love of the passing game, ran one of the best running attacks in NFL history. Jeff Stoutland worked his usual magic. The coaching staff deserves a ton of credit. Howie Roseman and the front office put together the best roster in football. They had one of the best offseasons in league history. They deserve a ton of credit. The movie shows Sirianni speaking to the team before and during the season. Time and time again Sirianni had the right message. He was able to keep the team focused, when they were struggling and later when they were red hot.

NFL Mock Draft 2025: Eagles 7-round simulation, Version 4.0 - BGN
Round 1, Pick 32 (for the Super Bowl Winner): Colston Loveland, Tight End, Michigan. I now strongly believe one of the Eagles first two picks will be a tight end. In Roob’s Eagles Observations: An unprecedented achievement for Howie Roseman - NBCSP
1A. When Cam Jurgens was named to his first Pro Bowl team in December, it gave Howie Roseman an remarkable achievement that no other general manager in NFL history – no other team in NFL history – has ever pulled off. He drafted a Pro Bowl player in the second round four straight years. With Miles Sanders in 2019, Jalen Hurts in 2020, Landon Dickerson in 2021 and now Jurgens in 2022, the Eagles became the only team in history to draft a Pro Bowler in the second round four consecutive years. Only one other team in the last 40 years has even drafted a Pro Bowler in the second round three straight years, and that was the Chargers from 2005 through 2007 with Vincent Jackson, Marcus McNeill and Eric Weddle. For the sake of comparison, the Jets have drafted one Pro Bowler in the second round in the last 45 years. The Eagles didn’t have a 2nd-round pick in 2023, but I’m not betting against Cooper DeJean making a Pro Bowl or six before he’s done. That wouldn’t be a Pro Bowl 2nd-rounder in five straight years but it would be five straight 2nd-round picks making a Pro Bowl. And if 2018 2nd-round pick Dallas Goedert could play a full healthy season – either here or somewhere else – that streak could conceivably reach five straight years with a 2nd-round Pro Bowler. Now if J.J. Arcega-Whiteside could ever make a Pro Bowl, we’d really be in business.

Eagles, Chiefs, Bills, Ravens win totals set at 11.5, highest in NFL - PFT
Sports books have started taking bets on NFL teams’ 2025 win totals, and four of the top teams from last year are expected to be at the top of the league again this year. The Eagles, Chiefs, Bills and Ravens’ win totals were set at 11.5, the highest in the NFL for this season.

Influencer Daisy Foko, fiancé of new Eagle Kylen Granson, is already getting food advice from Howie Roseman - Inquirer
Since then, Foko and Granson traveled to Philadelphia for the tight end’s contract signing. After multiple flight delays, they finally made it onto a red-eye flight at 4 a.m. before getting a tour of the facility and meeting the Eagles staff, including Howie Roseman. “I loved everybody, especially Howie,” Foko said in a TikTok post. “He was so funny. He was like, ‘You need to take out your notes app really quickly. I got some restaurants for you,’ and they sound so good. Like I’m a foodie, he’s a foodie. I’m so excited.”

Bristol Twp. School Board Accepts $3,000 Donation From Philadelphia Eagles - Levittown Now
The Bristol Township School Board approved a $3,000 donation from the Philadelphia Eagles Charity Foundation to support the district’s newest athletic program – girls flag football at Harry S. Truman High School. The donation was accepted during the board’s March action meeting.

[BLG Note: The Commanders are looking at two of the players the Eagles will also host on pre-draft visits.]

Jerry Jones is reportedly infatuated with one player in the 2025 draft - Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for the NFL draft in April. This time around, they hold the 12th overall pick in the first round. Players such as Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, and Michigan cornerback Will Johnson have been linked to Dallas, and they all would have an immediate impact. There’s another guy that could have a bigger effect than all of them. Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter is one of the top prospects in the draft, and he’s expected to be a top five pick, meaning out of the Cowboys range. However, while Dianna Russini of The Athletic was on the Scoop City podcast with Chase Daniel, she revealed that Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones is rather smitten over the superstar talent.

How much has New York Giants QB Russell Wilson declined? - Big Blue View
It was only a week or so ago that Tommy DeVito was the only quarterback on the the New York Giants’ roster. Then in fairly rapid succession, the Giants signed both Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson to contracts. Given Wilson’s more illustrious career, which includes one Super Bowl ring and almost a second, it is assumed by most people that he will be the Giants’ starter in 2025. In reality, we’ll have to wait until training camp to know for sure, since both QBs started part of the season for their previous teams. Winston, at 31, is six years younger than Wilson will be by mid-season. Winston’s problem has always been that his prolific passing game, which includes two 4,000-yard seasons and one 5,000-yard season, has been offset by his proclivity for interceptions. Wilson has never had that issue. The question with Wilson, given his age, is whether he is nearing the end of the line, considering that after spending 10 years with the team that drafted him, he is now on his fourth team in five years. How close is the Wilson the Giants are getting to the one who built a possible (probable?) Hall of Fame case for himself in his first decade in the NFL?

2025 NFL Draft: Will Johnson, Luther Burden III and Malaki Starks among players you shouldn’t overthink - NFL.com
S Malaki Starks: The Georgia product is a football savant with the instincts, awareness and skills to make an impact from Day 1 in the pros. While others might run faster or jump higher, Starks plays the game with rare courage and conviction to trust his instincts in crucial moments. He not only displays the football IQ of a seasoned pro but moves like a cornerback and hits like a linebacker. Possessing ability as a versatile box defender while also boasting center fielder range, the 6-0 7/8, 197-pounder is the combo safety defensive coordinators covet in the back end these days. Given his dynamic skills and natural playmaking ability, Starks can hit the ground running in the NFL as a middle-of-the-field defender for a defense that employs multiple coverages.

The 14 stupidest FCC complaints about the Super Bowl halftime show - SB Nation
Whining to the federal government about the Super Bowl halftime show has become as much of a tradition as the game itself. It’s a chance for boomers to crack their knuckles and wrinkle their confused brains about music they don’t understand, focusing their white-hot anger at bureaucrats to fire off emails about how they don’t like modern music, black people — and oftentimes both. This week the FCC released the 125 complaints about Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show and we read through all of them so you don’t have to, picking out the absolute stupidest ones. If you wrote one of these then you’re bad, and you should feel bad.

NFL Mock Draft Monday: Howie Roseman does it again

2025 NFL Scouting Combine

He can in fact keep getting away with this

We are one day away from April, meaning there are 25 shopping days left until the 2025 draft. Let’s corral some mocks.

Ian Valentino, the 33rd Team: CB Shavon Revel, East Carolina

There aren’t many obvious holes on the Eagles’ roster, but it’s fair to wonder whether they really like their cornerback depth. Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson, and Eli Ricks aren’t exactly proven options at this point.

Instead, bringing in Shavon Revel Jr. gives them a long-term star to pair with their 2024 additions. Shavon Revel would arguably be this class’ top corner if not for suffering a torn ACL in September.

In some ways this would be a very Eagles pick. As Valentino notes, Revel began the season as a potential 1st rounder, and then in his third game suffered a season ending injury. As we noted last week, the Eagles will buy the dip on a prospect, but not in the 1st round. Day two though, we could be cooking.

In other ways, it would not at all be their kind of pick. They did just get a hit on a G5 CB in the 1st round last year, but that isn’t a well the Eagles likely to go back to.

Hayden Winks, Underdog Fantasy - WR Emeka Ebguka, Ohio State

Once again not an obvious need, but Egbuka provides depth and could be the tierciary target if TE Dallas Goedert does end up being dealt for a pick and salary cap relief. Egbuka is used to being in a balanced offense with star receiving talent, and he’s made the most of it by being a dirty work slot or flanker. This is a substantial upgrade to Jahan Dotson, who won’t block like Egbuka can in 3-WR sets.

Just missed the cut: QB Jaxson Dart (who I’d have to the Browns at 33rd overall), RB TreVeyon Henderson, WR Luther Burden, OT Chris Conerly, DT Walter Nolen, and EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku.

WR has been a somewhat popular pick for the Eagles recently, foolishly. The Eagles could draft a WR this year, but it won’t be at 32.

But if they did, Ebguka would be a reasonable choice for this team. He’s a guy you can plug in as your starting slot WR and be set for years, but isn’t a slot only player where you have to take him off the field or just have him run cardio if he’s on the outside, so you could hunt matchups anywhere on the field with AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Ebguka.

Josh Liskiewitz, PFF - OT Josh Simmons, Ohio State

Key Stat: Through the first six weeks of the 2024 season (before his season-ending ACL injury against Oregon), Simmons did not allow a single quarterback pressure, including against Marshall’s Mike Green.

Bottom Line: Simmons brings impressive flexibility, leverage, foot speed, balance and hand work to the NFL with an adequate frame. He lacks a bit of power in the run game and is coming off an ACL tear in 2024, but his movement skills and football intelligence make him worthy of a top-50 pick and a shot to be a starter early on.

If he hadn’t gotten hurt, Josh Simmons would be OT1 in the draft. Even though he did get hurt, he’s still my OT1. I want the Eagles to draft an OT prospect sooner rather than later, so getting OT1 at 32 I couldn’t really complain.

While all three of these picks would not address the priority draft needs the Eagles have, they would be “stopping letting Howie Roseman draft good players” outcomes that have made the Eagles the best team in football.

Eric Edholm, NFL.com; Kyle Stackpole, CBS; Tyler Dragon, USA Today: trade out

It’s always a good year to be drafting 32nd on merit. But in this draft, it’s a particularly bad year to be drafting 32nd, because this draft is so low on “true” first round picks that it’s unlikely a player the Eagles have a 1st round grade on is available. Which also means it’s unlikely that a team is going to want to move up to 32 this year. The 5th year option just doesn’t have the value it once did now that the option year is fully guaranteed and has escalators on it.

Because of this, and because they have so many picks for next year, I expect them to trade up not back, including a 2026 pick in the deal.

My turn

Let’s rotate back to PFF, three rounds, no trades.

1st round - EDGE Nic Scourton, Texas A&M

Also considered: James Pearce, Darius Alexander, Tyleik Williams, TJ Sanders

I’ve taken Scourton before and I’m not going to stop now. Scourton feels a lot like Nolan Smith in that they’re both undersized edge rushers on DLs with talent—Shemar Stewart went 18th to the Seahawks in this, and Shemar Turner is going to go on day two—and at least in this sim they’re both available at the end of the 1st round. Howie szn

2nd round - DT Shemar Turner, Texas A&M

Also considered: Aireontae Ersery, CJ West, Alfred Colllins, Mason Taylor

Well there we go, I said Turner would go on day two. Quite the prophet I am. This is a draft for need pick as all the top DTs are gone by this pick and I am not wild about Turner at this point in the draft. In real life I would expect the Eagles to trade up before the DT run is over. To continue the comparisons to members of the Super Bowl LIX winning Philadelphia Eagles, Turner compares to the man he will replace, Milton Williams, as 6’3” sub 300 lb DL who can line up at multiple spots.

3rd round - OT Anthony Belton, NC State

Let’s keep the comparisons going and go with a Mekhi Becton replacement. We only have to change one letter in the last name! I think this is too high for Belton, we’ll see.

At NC State he played both LT and RT, and if drafted I’d give him the opportunity to be the swing tackle. But like Becton, he might be best at guard. A massive guard, standing at 6’6”.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns bolster pass rush

Ohio State v Penn State

With the 2nd overall pick in the 2025 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Cleveland Browns GM kjb304 selects ...

Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State

I know, the Browns have a lot of needs. Let’s review where the Browns ranked last year.

Team Profile

  • -31.7% 32nd. Off DVOA.
  • -30.1% 32nd. Passing DVOA.
  • -17.6% 29th. Rushing DVOA.
  • 4% 25th. Def DVOA.
  • 16.7% 28th. Def Passing DVOA.
  • -10.6% 15th. Def Rushing DVOA.

Not exactly the best team in the league, but I digress. Even with the worst numbers in the league, the Browns more than held their own against the Eagles. I fully expect the Browns will trade this away for a haul of picks to help everywhere, but for this exercise, I think Abdul Carter is the right pick. Also, full disclosure, I am a Penn State Grad but I promise this is not from being a homer. I will come full circle on the reasoning for the pick, but these are the numbers for Carter courtesy of Eric Fonton.

“Carter (6’3/250) has been a force since he stepped on campus in Happy Valley, earning Freshman All-American recognition with 10.5 TFL’s and 6.5 sacks. He played linebacker during his first two campaigns, earning 1st Team All-Big Ten accolades, before moving to Edge last year. Carter continued to excel at the new position and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year while accruing 12 sacks and a FBS-leading 23.5 tackles for loss to go with a 92.4 PFF pass rush grade that ranked number one nationally. He posted an elite 22.9% win rate with a 19.4% pressure rate while ranking 2nd nationally in both pressures (66) and stops (43)”

Watching Micah Parsons making the move from LB to DE in the pros and the success he had, James Franklin actually made the adjustment and moved Carter to DE his junior year and it paid instant dividends. These aren’t numbers against the low level Big Ten conference foes, Carter had a combined 3 sacks against Ohio State and Oregon. Carter was an absolute force in big games and showed up in the CFB playoff games as well. Even when Darth Vadar couldn’t use his one arm (currently no numbers for workouts due to surgery to fix that shoulder), he was still the best player and making plays all over the field in every game down the stretch. Big Ten was arguably the best conference in the CFB last year and Carter was the best defensive player from that conference.

Let’s check up on the perceived weaknesses for Carter. First one, slightly undersized DE. I have no issues about his size. Abdul Carter is the same exact height and a couple pounds more than Micah Parsons, or if you are old school like me, Derrick Thomas. Derrick Thomas was the first player I ever watched in college when he played for Alabama that Penn State couldn’t block. DT is the standard for this size, and while no one is quite like him, Parsons is very close and Abdul Carter is right there with the eye test. The other large knock I have read on Carter is his run defense. Once again, no worries there. The missed tackles aren’t from being blocked or not getting the RB/QB down, it is from being too aggressive and over-pursuing. I do remember yelling at the TV during PSU games the last three years watching him run past the point of attack. While that is a real liability as a LB, this is not nearly a concern at DE. Carter is also very coachable, which is the reason he came in as a high recruit and leaves as one of the best players in the CFB.

So why did we go with DE Carter for the Browns? Why not a QB? Why not offense? Didn’t the Browns just sign Myles Garrett?(No Howie magic to snag him sadly) The reason is the lessons we have watched Howie learn. Picking for need is how you get terrible results. Best Player Available. Browns have so many needs that they cannot afford to miss out on a true player maker in “hopes” that Ward/Sanders are actually good enough to be a franchise QB. I am not sold on either QB being good but I will let the people picking them make their cases for and against. There was no oline person that I would take over Carter as well. I also cannot shake the Super Bowl we just watched. Jalen Carter getting double-teamed while the other 3 dline had 1 on 1’s all game. Building on the lines and making a strength even a larger strength is how you win in the NFL. Sweat and Williams just got paid 185 or so million combined. I see the same thing for the Browns. You double Myles, Carter is on the other side 1 on 1 and I like those chances. Also helps to have the old Andy Reid on the sidelines across from you not making any in game adjustments, but still, the Eagles dline won that game almost by themselves.

Browns should take Carter and feel good they got the best player in this draft.

Tush Push ban vote has been tabled until May

NFL: DEC 03 49ers at Eagles

Photo by Andy Lewis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Great… more time to debate this.

After much discussion — perhaps way too much discussion — the NFL has tabled the vote to ban the tush push at the annual meeting, per multiple reports.

The fact that the debate on banning the tush push was tabled indicates it may be discussed again at the May meetings. And could be pushed forward once more support is gathered. https://t.co/LW5EQFFPrn

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 1, 2025

Despite many vocal (and wrong) coaches and GMs arguing the safety concerns with the Eagles extremely successful play, it would appear they don’t have the support of 24 clubs to pass a rule change. In fact, they’re pretty far off from the support they need with 16 teams reportedly against barring the play.

Source: 16 teams opposed the rule to ban the tush push. There will be much more conversation, with many teams in favor of having the NFL’s competition committee continue to study the play.

— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) April 1, 2025

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the conversation is over, just pushed back until at least May. Insiders suggest that even if they don’t have the support in May, they’ll try again next year.

Hearing the Tush Push debate amongst the teams is the rare rule change proposal where both sides are not only dug in and very passionate, but there are influential voices making cases to potential "swing votes" on both sides of the debate. This is the story of the week.

— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) April 1, 2025

If the data didn’t support their various arguments now, assumptions would be, it won’t support their arguments at a later date, either. But, it looks like with some adjustments to the language of the rule, the Eagles may still be forced to change their approach to the tush push.

The tabling of the tush push opens the rule up to potentially have its language tweaked.

So while the play itself might not be banned, it could still look different going forward.

Proponents of the play — including the Eagles — don’t look at this result as a win. https://t.co/qAHY5rmnPY

— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) April 1, 2025

For now, the Eagles can only wait and see how this plays out. Some kind of change seems inevitable — but all these debates are getting old.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants go quarterback

Miami v California

With the 3rd overall pick in the 2025 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, New York Giants GM The Player Formerly Known as Mousecop selects ...

Cam Ward, QB, Miami

I considered picking Ashton Jeanty, because picking a top-5 RB worked out so well for the Giants last time.

In actuality, this is an interesting position as the fake Giants GM, because the real Giants GM has a far different motivation. It doesn’t take a genius to know that none of none of the 36-year old Russell Wilson, interception-prone journeyman Jameis Winston, or 2023 Bud Light Celebration of the Year winner Tommy DeVito is the long-term answer. However, the GM and coach are both clearly on the hot seat. Signing Russell Wilson is, in my view, an attempt to eek out something like a 7-10 or 8-9 season and preserve their jobs. In that scenario, taking a quarterback does nothing to aid in that goal. “You want my top pick to just sit a year and learn? Yeah, right.” So, if Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter are gone, maybe they do take Ashton Jeanty or Armand Membou or Mason Graham. Get one more win! Keep their jobs!

As fake GM, none of this matters. What’s good for the future of the franchise? There’s no quick fix for what’s ailing the Giants. Get a quarterback under center and build around him during his rookie contract. This brings us to Cam Ward. His journey from zero star recruit to potential 1-1 pick is quite the rise. He’s not flawless, but there are no flawless QB draft picks. In true Bleeding Green Nation fashion, how about some winners, losers, and IDKs, attribute edition:

Winners:

  • While not a runner, he can move both in and out of the pocket.
  • Quick throws, with usually good accuracy.
  • Can launch the football
  • Strong processing, feel for where pass rushers are, and timing
  • Healthy

Losers:

  • Prone to some Carson Wentz-style gunslinger throws
  • Sometimes scrambles backwards, leading to bigger losses on sacks
  • Some red zone inconsistency

IDKS:

  • Weird throwing motion!

The most obvious comparisons are probably Ben Roethlisberger or Carson Wentz: bigger quarterbacks who can run with big throws and occasional propensity toward hero ball. As for the throwing motion, I can’t think of another NFL quarterback who throws side-arm with such regularity (yes, some QBs do throw side-arm, but not by default). When I watch some of these throws, I’m reminded more of Chase Utley turning a double play than any football throw. I couldn’t tell you if this motion can or should be coached out of him. Will it lead to more batted balls if his release point is lower? Could sticking his arm out lead to increased injury risk (though Ward has been quite healthy to this point in his career)? On the other hand, if it works, it works. Some of the true negatives in Ward’s game could be avoided with some patience or learning to stay away from hero ball.

All in all, there’s a reason that he’s probably the top pick in the draft. He may be just what the Giants need, but would they pick him? Eh, they’ll probably take the running back.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars draft defensive tackle

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 09 Michigan at Indiana

Photo by James Black/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

With the 5th overall pick in the 2025 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Jacksonville Jaguars GM eaglenomics selects ...

Mason Graham, DT, Michigan

(Channeling my inner James Gladstone) Oh boy! I’m excited to make the very first pick of my GM career. I may look like I have just graduated from college, perhaps because I decided to rock the perhaps-too-bold hoodie-vest combo during my introductory press conference, but I am ready for this moment. As a late-stage millennial, I have been ripping mock draft after mock draft in preparation for this moment. PFF Mock Draft Simulator, you have positioned me in a winning position, and I’m excited to take whoever remains from the Travis Hunter-Abdul Carter-Will Campbell triad.

(Travis Hunter goes 1) Wait, what? This isn’t what the simulation promised.

(Abdul Carter goes 2) Good Lord, what is happening? PFF, did you lie to me?

(Will Campbell goes 4) I am not crying and physically shaking; I’m just… allergic to the starch they used to dry-clean my hoodie or something.

(Jacksonville Jaguars, you are ON THE CLOCK. You have 10) Alright, me, calm down. You can do this. You know what everyone says and knows about James Gladstone; when life punches him in the face, he punches right back. So, what do we do?

Who are the best players available? Pulling up some draft analyst big boards (not that I don’t trust the esteemed scouts within the Jaguars organization), it looks like most experts have Ashton Jeanty, Armand Membou, or Mason Graham as the top players remaining. James, you want cool NFL people to think you’re smart. Like you know how to allocate resources, so you WILL NOT take Ashton Jeanty.

Great, so we are down to Membou and Graham. Membou is an athletic offensive tackle prospect, and Graham is a meat-and-potatoes blue-chip defensive tackle from the National Championship-winning Michigan Wolverines. It looks like most analysts have Graham as the better player, and that aligns with our own needs, as we have decent tackles but nothing on the defensive interior.

Finally, I look up to the sky and recite the mantra I picked up when I got this job: What would Howie Roseman do? He’s the best in the game, and he’s the tops, so I must abide by his word. Well, he loves the trenches! As another final check, I look at the dirt and hiss: What would Trent Baalke do? Probably take some flashy, overly athletic player instead of the demonstrably awesome guy. That’s why he took Travon Walker over Aiden Hutchinson. What a doofus! He’d probably take Membou. Great, so I now know what to do / who to avoid.

Now that I have a guy in mind, I have to make sure I’m covering my butt. Remember, as Joe Shoen and Brain Daboll remind us every year, the true goal of an NFL GM is not to position their franchise for success but to stay employed another year. So this year, let’s just make sure not to rock the boat *too much.* Let’s peruse a couple of more mock drafts, then… Oh wow, EVERYONE has Mason Graham going to the Jaguars, often using the words “marriage of talent and need.” Awesome, so no one will bat an eye when I pick him. In fact, it would look weird at this point if I didn’t! I don’t need that heat, so let’s lock it in.

With the Fifth Pick in the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select: MASON GRAHAM, Defensive Tackle – Michigan.

About the Player:

Mason Graham is, in many ways, a boring meat-and-potatoes pick for the Jaguars. He also happens to be exactly what they need. At a height of 6’3 to 6’4 and a weight of about 300 to 320 pounds, Graham has great size for the defensive tackle position. In college, he starred both as a pass rusher and run defender, placing above the 95th percentile in both phases according to PFF, recording 3.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss in his final season at Michigan.

However, what really gets scouts excited is not his measurables or stats but the way he plays the game. Graham is a high-effort player with an incredible motor and aggressive play style. The high-school wrestling star has an array of moves in his arsenal, including a swim move, a club move, and a “devastating push-pull move” (in the words of the Ringer’s Danny Kelly). These moves are bolstered by a highly athletic profile, although he did not test at the NFL Draft Combine. All of these features, put together, make him an exceptional prospect.

Graham is not a flawless prospect, but his perceived flaws are minor. The most significant critiques of Graham come from his physique, as analysts have noted his arms are “shorter-than-ideal” and questioned his body composition in a manner I thought was a bit mean to put in this write-up. Basically, scouts wish he was a bit more jacked. However, when you see how he plays and take into account his production, tape, and other measurables, those worries quickly wash away.

Ultimately, Mason Graham is precisely the type of player the Jaguars need. The Trent Baalke era was made up of style over substance. That failed spectacularly, year-over-year-over-year-over-year. In contrast, Mason Graham disciplines both a defense from the interior and a roster by building it through the trenches. He is also a DOG. He’s an awesome player, has good size for the position, and has a strong projection for both an immediate impact and a lengthy, successful career. These three features, on their own, would be enough to warrant the pick. However, he also happens to fill a considerable need on their roster, specifically because Trent Baalke did such a terrible job in roster construction at the end of the Doug Pederson era. If Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, or Will Campbell had made it this far, the question would, perhaps, be more difficult. They didn’t, so this pick is relatively easy. Let’s just hope James Gladstone had enough time between the combine and draft to pick up some big boy pants and do what needs to be done.

2025 BGN Mock Draft Order
