NFL free agency rumors tracker: News, signings, trades, updates, and more

NFL: NFC Championship-Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles

Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Check back often for the latest reports!

Our 2025 NFL free agency tracker is officially here! We’ll be keeping tabs on all the rumors, reports, trades, news, signings, etc. that are relevant to the Philadelphia Eagles over the next few weeks in this space here at Bleeding Green Nation.

The action unofficially kicks off at noon on Monday, March 10 at 12:00 PM Eastern when the negotiating window (AKA ‘legal tampering’ period) begins. Teams and agents can begin negotiating contracts but they cannot literally put pen to paper until the new league year officially starts on Wednesday, March 12 at 4:00 PM Eastern.

This year’s free agency period will be an interesting one for the Birds. The Eagles are expected to lose multiple key players who contributed to their Super Bowl LIX win. Jeffrey Lurie talked about how the Eagles are expecting to play the compensatory pick game. Howie Roseman also asked for fans to be patient while recently speaking at the NFL Combine. The team seems to be trying to manage expectations but there will be opportunities to add new players at some point.

This post will be constantly updated so check back often!

NFL free agency rumors and trade rumors that are relevant to the Eagles

[4:55 PM] - Darius Slay to the Steelers is confirmed, according to a report from Adam Schefter.

[4:40 PM] - The Eagles are not using a restricted free agent on Britain Covey, according to a report from Jimmy Kempski. Covey is now an unrestricted free agent.

[4:16 PM] - Ben VanSumeren (exclusive-rights free agent) and the Eagles predictably agreed to a one-year contract, according to a report from Ian Rapoport.

[4:00 PM] - The 2025 league year has officially begun!

TUESDAY, MARCH 11

[10:33 PM] - The Eagles had interest in signing Justin Reid, who instead landed with the New Orleans Saints. This much according to a report from James Palmer.

[9:45 PM] - Kenny Gainwell is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year contract, according to a report from Jordan Schultz.

[11:07 AM] - Trade! And it’s a shocker. The Eagles are sending C.J. Gardner-Johnson (huh?) and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans for Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

MONDAY, MARCH 10

[6:55 PM] - Oren Burks is signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a report from Ian Rapoport.

[5:55 PM] - TRADE! The Eagles are sending Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick (via the Detroit Lions) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, according to a report from Ian Rapoport.

[3:15 PM] - Josh Sweat is signing with the Arizona Cardinals on a four-year, $76.4 million contract, according to Adam Schefter.

[3:03 PM] - Darius Slay is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a report from Jordan Schultz. However, Tom Pelissero notes that no deal is done despite Slay in talks with the Steelers. So, we’ll see on this one.

[2:12 PM] - Milton Williams is signing with the New England Patriots on a contract worth $26 million per year, according to a report from Ian Rapoport. Wowza.

[1:40 PM] - Isaiah Rodgers is signing a two-year, $15 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, according to a report from Adam Schefter.

[1:33 PM] - Milton Williams isn’t necessarily signing with the Carolina Panthers. That deal isn’t done yet. The Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings are also in on Williams, according to a report from Cayden Steele.

[1:09 PM] - Milton Williams is signing with the Carolina Panthers, according to multiple reports.

[12:07 PM] - Former Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick is signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a report from Ian Rapoport. One-year contract for $14 million with $12 million guaranteed.

[11:33 AM] - Doesn’t seem like the Eagles and Mekhi Becton will agree to a new contract before the player’s representation is allowed to talk to other teams at noon, according to a report from Tim McManus.

[10:01 AM] - To kick off us, a recap of the latest buzz: 1) The Eagles are reportedly seeking a fourth-round pick in return for a Dallas Goedert trade. 2) Isaiah Rodgers seems to have a strong market and might not be back in Philly.

DeMarcus Lawrence roasted the Cowboys and Micah Parsons clapped back

NFC Wild Card Playoffs - Green Bay Packers v Dallas Cowboys

It might not have been on purpose, but it was an honest take on the situation.

The Dallas Cowboys lost their four-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency this week, with the DE signing a three-year, $42 million deal. As Lawrence looks to close one chapter and open another, during a recent interview in his new facility, he was sure to note that Dallas will always be his home, but included a brutal parting shot.

“Dallas is my home. Made my home there, my family live there. I’m forever gonna be there, but I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there.”

“Dallas is my home… But I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there” pic.twitter.com/F31fVSZLC4

— ᴅᴏxx ⚡️ (@new_era72) March 13, 2025

He’s not wrong but it’s hilarious that he would say it out loud. It’s also hilarious because it triggered Micah Parson who chimed in, resulting in Lawrence roasting him, too.

“Maybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn’t have left.”

Oh boy. Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons are beefing online: pic.twitter.com/PobQLc5c2M

— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) March 14, 2025

In all seriousness, he was probably just trying to hype up his new team, but the dig was rooted in honesty. Lawrence probably knows better than most how the Cowboys’ organization is run, and after signing several new deals with the team since 2017, knew he’d be looking elsewhere in this year’s free agency.

Lawrence missed most of the 2024 season with an injury, but said that he was still able to play and do so at a high level. Thankfully, he’s not someone the Eagles will have to face very often, let alone twice in a year.

Report: Eagles sign new long snapper

Arizona Cardinals v Cleveland Browns

Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images

Goodbye to Rick Lovato?

The Philadelphia Eagles apparently have a new long snapper.

The Birds are signing former Cleveland Brown LS Charley Hughlett to a one-year, $1.422 million contract that includes $467,500 guaranteed, according to Aaron Wilson.

Hughlett, who turns 35 in May, was released by the Browns in late February. He had played 152 consecutive games with Cleveland before suffering a season-ending rib injury in Week 5.

The Browns made Hughlett the highest-paid long snapper in NFL history at the time in October 2022. So, maybe he’s good? It’s also worth noting that his teammates voted him as a team captain four times since 2019.

The Eagles signing Hughlett seems to indicate they’re moving on from long-time long snapper and two-time Super Bowl champion Rick Lovato. If so, there are multiple reasons why this shouldn’t be viewed as a totally shocking development:

1) The Eagles only signed Lovato to a one-year contract extension when he was a free agent last year. They could’ve/would’ve signed him to a multi-year deal if there was no doubt about keeping him around beyond 2024.

2) Eagles punter Braden Mann had to make some great holds to bail out off target snaps by Lovato last season.

3) Lovato turns 33 in September. Hughlett is obviously older than him but the Eagles might feel like Lovato is in decline.

4) Jake Elliott had one of the worst seasons of his career last year. It’s hard to say that Lovato definitely factored into the kicker’s struggles but maybe he did more than not at all?

If this is truly the end of the road for Lovato in Philly, it’s been a good ride. Including the playoffs, he’s played in 160 games since originally joining the Eagles in 2016. And he’s one of just four players with two Eagles Super Bowl wins alongside Elliott, Lane Johnson, and Brandon Graham.

Thanks, Rick ... and welcome, Charley.

Mekhi Becton will not be returning to the Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Championship Parade

The Eagles right guard certainly made his mark, but will now be headed out west.

The Eagles do not play around about their offensive line, but they weren’t able to get a deal done with Mekhi Becton to keep the offensive guard in Philly. Instead, Becton is signing a two-year deal with the Chargers.

big ticket to LA

we’ve signed G Mekhi Becton →https://t.co/tF5DfF2Hb7 pic.twitter.com/RWnKdKx1GZ

— Los Angeles Chargers (@chargers) March 15, 2025

The tackle-turned-guard had a rocky start to his career after being drafted by the Jets, but had a resurgence in Philly thanks to the tutelage of Jeff Stoutland. Becton didn’t just survive among the best, he thrived, and was a really critical piece to having such a strong front five. It took all of them to get Saquon Barkley to 2,000 yards, and Becton was ranked 21 out of 135 offensive guards, and was number 19 in run blocking in 2024.

Becton talked about how much he appreciated the Eagles organization toward the end of the Super Bowl celebrations and there were reports that he was willing to take less than his market value in order to stay with Stoutland and the rest of the group. Unfortunately, it looks like the two sides weren’t able to get close enough to make it worth it for Becton, who will move and on and hope to continue building on his new foundation.

The Eagles will now look to Tyler Steen to make a leap this offseason, as well as some of their other depth players and recently added Kenyon Green to fill in that now-open right guard spot.

The Linc - Eagles signed one of PFF’s most underrated free agents

NFL: NOV 24 Chiefs at Panthers

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/15/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

One underrated 2025 NFL free agent at every defensive position - PFF
Edge Defender: Joshua Uche. Overall Free-Agent Rank: 94. The Michigan product had a breakout season in 2022, when he earned an eighth-ranked 87.8 PFF pass-rushing grade (among 100 qualifying edge defenders that season) and recorded a second-ranked 21.1% pressure rate at the position. Even though Uche was a one-dimensional player who only contributed on pass plays, that made him a valuable piece who consistently manufactured pressure on third downs. But Uche’s career since then has taken a downturn, and even a mid-season trade to the Chiefs in 2024 didn’t help. Regardless, Uche is only 26 years old, and his previously displayed potential should encourage a team to bet on him.

Eagles 2025 free agency tracker: Offseason moves, signings - ESPN
Joshua Uche, LB. Uche agreed to a one-year deal with the Eagles. What it means: The Eagles add to the edge rusher position after losing Sweat to the Cardinals in free agency. Uche, 26, was a second-round pick of the Patriots in the 2020 draft. He had a monster statistical season in 2022, piling up 11.5 sacks, 9 tackles for loss and 14 QB hits, but has only 9 sacks total in his other four seasons in the NFL. He’ll join a rotation that includes 2024 breakout player Smith and Hunt. What’s the risk: The consistency hasn’t been there to this point for Uche. Sweat averaged more than eight sacks per season over the past four years in Philly, so his production won’t be easy to replace. The Eagles need Smith and Hunt to continue to ascend and will be hoping players such as Uche and Bryce Huff can hit their upside to keep the pass rush rolling.

Report: Eagles open to trading Bryce Huff and Dallas Goedert - BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles are “open to trade talks” involving Bryce Huff and Dallas Goedert, according to a report from Jordan Schultz. This is hardly the first time we’ve heard of these players being on the trade block. Huff’s name came up in rumors prior to the NFL trade deadline last season. That despite the fact the Eagles signed him to a three-year, $51.1 million contract in March 2024. Huff did not come close to living up to expectations last season. It’s not surprising that the team would look to move on if Vic Fangio simply doesn’t trust him to play.

Eagles Sign Everyone - Iggles Blitz
I’m joking around with the comment about Dollar Tree. The Eagles are definitely bargain-hunting, but with good reason. Miles Sanders was a second round pick. He didn’t pan out exactly as hoped. The Eagles ended up signing Saquon Barkley. Jalen Reagor was a first round pick. He didn’t pan out at all. The Eagles traded for and extended AJ Brown. When you don’t hit on picks, you have to go spend big on free agents. When you draft Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Cam Jurgens, Nakobe Dean, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, you can’t spend all that much on outside guys. The Eagles are smart to find players that fit their systems, have some ability and are the right price/age. None of these guys are flashy signings. But neither were Zack Baun, Oren Burks, Isaiah Rodgers or Fred Johnson. Those guys just helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl. The real key to this offseason is the draft. That’s where Howie can find young, talented players at a good cost. There is obviously a risk in relying too much on the draft (see Reagor), but that’s what you have to do when you have a roster full of high-priced stars. By signing all the cheap free agents, Howie is filling roster holes so he’ll have freedom in the upcoming draft to target the best players and not fill big needs. As far as I’m concerned the offseason has already been a success. The Eagles re-signed Zack Baun. I can live with just about anything after that.

Spadaro: Here are four ways the Eagles are building the roster for now and the future - PE.com
1) Retain the core of the roster. At quarterback, Jalen Hurts is signed through 2028 while both Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson are signed through the 2026 season. That is as enviable as any quarterback room in the 32-team NFL. This is a position of enormous strength and depth and talent. At running back, Saquon Barkley is signed for the long term, Will Shipley is in the second year of his four-year rookie contract, and newly added A.J. Dillon is in on a one-year deal. Again, great situation. Same at wide receiver with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith signed through 2027 and Jahan Dotson in the fourth year of his rookie deal. The offensive line is in place for years to come – Lane Johnson is under contract through 2026 and both Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson have deals through 2028. You see how locked in the offense is, right? The defense has some long-term pieces in place – linebacker Zack Baun was a huge keep prior to free agency – but what you mostly see on that side of the ball is youth. Tackles Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo are in their rookie contracts. Ditto edge rushers Nolan Smith, Jr. and Jalyx Hunt, along with cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Kelee Ringo. Safety Reed Blankenship is entering just his fourth NFL season. Sydney Brown is on his rookie contract as are linebackers Nakobe Dean (final year of his deal) and Jeremiah Trotter, Jr. Look, there is some work to do, of course. There are some contracts to consider and, certainly, there are steps needed from some young players. But we’re early and the Eagles are in great shape with the roster as it stands today. And it’s only going to get better.

Lombardi Trophy arrives in style to Eagles’ training center - NBCSP
The trophy case at the Eagles’ NovaCare Complex just received its highly anticipated addition. And the NFL certainly rolled out the metaphorical red carpet for the coveted hardware. Arriving in a locked box with a special key designed by Tiffany & Co., the trophy was first revealed while wrapped in the iconic blue bag with white gloves placed on top.

Chargers sign OG Mekhi Becton to 2-year, $20 million - Bolts From The Blue
The Chargers finally signed their much-needed offensive guard. Late Friday night, the Los Angeles Chargers announced the signing of former Eagles offensive guard Mekhi Becton to a two-year deal worth $20 million. The new contract makes Becton the 11th highest-paid guard in the NFL.

Report: Eagles sign Colts free agent TE Kylen Granson to one-year deal - Stampede Blue
Originally a 2021 4th round pick of the Colts, the 26-year-old tight end finishes his Indianapolis tenure with 86 receptions for 958 total receiving yards (11.1 ypr. avg.) and a touchdown reception during 62 career games (17 starts). As the Colts look to revamp their tight end room with more dynamic playmakers, Granson appeared unlikely to be re-signed, and arguably was the ‘poster boy’ of an Indy position that collectively failed to generate consistent receiving position last season.

New York Giants free agency: LB Patrick Johnson returns to Philadelphia Eagles - Big Blue View
The Giants claimed Johnson off waivers from the Eagles on Sept. 17th of last season. Johnson had played for the Eagles since they drafted him out of Tulane in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft. Johnson played in 12 games for the Giants this past year. He was almost exclusively a special teams player, getting 263 special teams snaps (83%), compared to just 46 defensive snaps (6%). He was also primarily a special teams player for the Eagles as well.

Washington Commanders Free Agency: Dante Fowler signs 1-year, $8 million deal to return to the Cowboys - Hogs Haven
OLB Dante Fowler Jr followed head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr to the Washington Commanders from the Dallas Cowboys last year, but he’s going back after not getting the deal he wanted here. Fowler is reportedly signing a 1-year deal with the Cowboys that’s worth up to $8 million. He had 10.5 sacks last season, and felt disrespected by the market he was getting. Fowler wasn’t signed in the initial wave of free agency, and now the former No. 3 overall pick plays on another prove it deal.

Leadership could be issue for Cowboys without DeMarcus Lawrence and Zack Martin - Blogging The Boys
With Zack Martin’s retirement and DeMarcus Lawrence deciding to continue his career with the Seattle Seahawks, a new era is officially underway with the Dallas Cowboys. These two players have been stalwarts ever since they joined the organization and neither will be easily replaced anytime soon for what they both accomplished on and off the field. While replacing either Martin or Lawrence in the starting lineup is as simple as plugging in the next man up, the production likely won’t be on par. That’s to be expected when trying to replace two players that have been building blocks for the organization for over a decade now, especially considering the caliber of players they’ve been.

Parris Campbell is not returning to the Eagles

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

The WR won a ring in Philly and is now headed to his third NFC East team in as many years.

NFL free agency keeps rolling and the Eagles officially won’t be bringing back WR Parris Campbell, who agreed to a one-year deal with the Cowboys.

Former Eagles free-agent WR Parris Campbell reached agreement today on a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, per source. The Cowboys become the third NFC East team for which Campbell has played. pic.twitter.com/lpCBZA3yOG

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 15, 2025

The Eagles brought in Campbell last offseason to add some familiar depth to the wide receiver room. He had played under Nick Sirianni in Indianapolis, before spending some time with the Giants. He and Saquon Barkley both left New York for Philly with chips on their shoulders, but ended up getting the last laugh — and a Super Bowl ring to prove it.

Campbell spent most of the 2024 season on and off of the practice squad, but he was a reliable backup as injuries affected the roster throughout the year, and filled his role very well.

Now, he’s headed to his third NFC East team in as many years. He could have a bigger role in Dallas depending on how Jerry Jones handles the rest of free agency and the draft, and if he does, the Eagles defense will be ready for him.

Philadelphia Eagles NFL Draft 2025 Positional Needs: Running Back

NCAA Football: Rutgers at Michigan State

Dale Young-Imagn Images

The Birds are set at RB1, but it never hurts to plan for the future!

While I have watched highlights from the Super Bowl every day since it happened, apparently a NEW season of football is still going to start in September. Before that can happen however, each team gets to select a number of former college standouts in the annual NFL Draft (April 24-April 26) which takes place in Green Bay, Wis. this year.

The Philadelphia Eagles will have the last pick in the first round, due to being the defending Super Bowl champs of course, and seven picks in rounds two through five, although Executive VP/GM/Wizard Howie Roseman has been known to make a deal or two on draft weekend.

2025 Picks:

1st round (PHI), No. 32
2nd round (PHI), No. 64
3rd round (PHI), No. 96
4th round (DET), No. 130
5th round (HOU), No. 161
5th round (CLE via DET), No. 164
5th round (WAS), No. 165
5th round (PHI), No. 168

2026 Picks:

1st round (PHI)
2nd round (PHI)
3rd round (PHI)
3rd round (NYJ)
4th round (PHI)
5th round (PHI)
5th round (HOU)
7th round (PHI)
four compensatory picks too (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th rounds I think)

Potential Team Needs (2025 free agents in parentheses):

EDGE (Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham)
LB (Zack Baun, Oren Burks, Ben VanSumeren; Nakobe Dean FA in 26)
OG (Mekhi Becton, Fred Johnson)
OT (Jack Driscoll; Darian Kinnard, Brett Toth FAs in 26)
TE (C.J. Uzomah FA; Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcatarra, E.J. Jenkins FA in 26)
CB (Isaiah Rodgers, Avonte Maddox FA; Darius Slay, Tristin McCollum, Eli Ricks, James Bradberry FAs in 26)

RB (Kenneth Gainwell)
IDL (Milton Williams; Jordan Davis, Thomas Booker IV FAs in 26)

Now that a number of free agent decisions have been made, we have a better idea of what the Birds might do during the draft.

The Eagles lost: Sweat (Cardinals), Rodgers (Vikings), Gainwell (Steelers), Williams (Patriots), Slay (Steelers), Burks (Bengals), Becton (Chargers), Graham (FA), Bradberry (FA)

The Eagles retained: Baun, VanSumeren

Undecided: Maddox, Uzomah, Johnson, Driscoll

The Eagles signed free agents: LG Kenyon Green (Texans), EDGE Joshua Uche (Chiefs), RB A.J. Dillon (Packers), CB Adoree Jackson (Giants), LS Charley Hughlett (Browns), TE Harrison Bryant (Raiders), TE Kylen Granson (Colts), EDGE Patrick Johnson (Giants), PR/KR/WR/RB Avery WIlliams (Falcons)

Even with the addition of Dillon in free agency, Philadelphia would be wise to bring in a back to challenge Lew Nichols and Tyrion Davis-Price for depth. Dillon is coming off a neck injury that caused him to miss all of last season and the last two games of the 2023 season so it’s unclear how healthy (or rusty) he’ll be.

So, with that being said, let’s take a look at three potential ball carriers the Eagles could draft in April. (Age listed is “age on first day of the season.” Height and weight is as listed on NFL.com draft profile.)

RJ Harvey, UCF, 5-foot-8, 205 pounds, fifth-year senior, 24 years old

  • small in size but doesn’t shy away from contact
  • patient runner who waits for plays to develop and then bursts through the hole and past defenders with razor-sharp cuts
Arizona v UCF
Photo by Andrew Wevers/UCF Athletics/Getty Images
  • because of his insane cutting ability he too often tried to bounce runs outside in college which works against New Hampshire, but not against New England
  • despite an impressive 40-time at the combine, I wouldn’t classify him as a “speed back,” because he often got chased down on long runs even in his own highlight video
  • competent as a pass catcher
  • he is definitely on the older end of the prospect spectrum, but he only had 579 career carries in college and two seasons as the top RB at UCF so there is still some tread left on the tires
  • 2024 accolades: Third Team All-America (AP, Phil Steele); First Team All-Big 12 (coaches, media, Phil Steele, CFN)
  • 2024 stats: 232 attempts, 1,577 yards (6.8 ypc), long of 80, 22 rushing touchdowns; 20 catches, 267 yards (13.3 ypc), long of 75, 3 receiving touchdowns; 1-of-1 passing, 18 yards
  • Relative Athletic Score (RAS): 8.40 out of 10.00; 40-yard dash time of 4.40 which rated a 9.67 out of 10.00
  • Fun fact: he was the QB of his high school in Orlando that went defeated his sophomore year but won the district championship the following season and made the state playoffs with a 12-2 record his senior season
  • The Eagles should draft him in: 4th round

Kyle Monangai, Rutgers, 5-foot-8, 211 pounds, fifth-year senior, 23 years old

  • runs kinda like a bowling bowl that has been personally wronged by a member of the opposing team’s defense
  • he is elusive in the open field but not fast, on short or long runs
  • appears to have good hands but wasn’t a focal point of the Rutgers passing attack so not sure that can be considered a “strength”

Mekhi Becton and other departing free agents show their appreciation for Eagles fans

NFC Wild Card Playoffs: Green Bay Packers v Philadelphia Eagles

Offseason moves are already being made, and several players were sure to give love to Eagles fans before their exit.

With the official start of free agency on Wednesday, many players from the Super Bowl winning team are heading elsewhere throughout the league. As their time in Philly comes to an end, they have been sure to send love to Eagles fans who embraced and supported them for the past year.

It’s never easy to see guys leave, but it’s nice to know there’s no ill will and that their time in Philly was as special for them as it was for us.

Here are some of the farewell messages from the now former Eagles:

Mekhi Becton

It was always love for Mekhi Becton in Philly, and he was sure to return it in his farewell letters to the team after signing a new contract with the Chargers.

“And to the City of Philadelphia, Thank you. The passion, the energy, the support - it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Playing in front of you was an honor, and I’ll always carry a piece of Philly with me.”

Forever champions!!!! Love yall forever Philly!!!! pic.twitter.com/2qPexPxnA0

Oren Burks

The linebacker formally signed his new deal with the Bengals, but made sure to highlight how impactful his short stint in Philly had been.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson

One of the biggest surprises so far by the Eagles ahead of free agency was trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Texans. The DB hopped on a stream shortly after the news and alluded to the fact that he at least had a heads up about the situation and confirmed there’s no bad blood with the Eagles organization.

He had a lot of kind things to say and insights to share with Eagles fans as he wrapped up his second stop in Philly.

“To the Philly Faithful — you’re unmatched. You embraced my edge and fire, for this game even when I got too hot.”

— C.J. Gardner-Johnson (@CGJXXIII) March 11, 2025

Kenny Pickett

Another trade the Eagles made early in the offseason was sending QB Kenny Pickett to Cleveland. It gives the quarterback a chance to compete for the starting role, but he was sure to capture how special the 2024 season in Philly was for him.

“Thank you to the great fans of Philadelphia, my childhood dream came true this season and playing in front of you was an honor!!”

Kenny Pickett says goodbye to Philadelphia pic.twitter.com/MQyicwMeWs

— Victor Williams (@ThePhillyPod) March 11, 2025

Isaiah Rodgers

Many Eagles fans wanted Isaiah Rodgers to return in 2025, but he earned a big paycheck and followed a different path — to Minnesota. Still, Rodgers acknowledged how Philly lifted him up when he was down and out and how much love he has for everyone.

“I have genuinely never had more fun playing this game. It was a very difficult decision to leave, but I will always remember all the love and support you showed me and my family.”

pic.twitter.com/zLzDXLCpOO

— Isaiah Rodgers Sr. (@rodgers_isaiah) March 11, 2025

Milton Williams

One player the Eagles would have liked to keep but pretty much knew wasn’t an option was DT Milton Williams — seemed obvious when he was wearing a sweatshirt with his agency on it during locker room cleanout day. Still, he was sure to send his love to Eagles fans before starting his next chapter in New England.

“To the fans, you have made walking onto the field each and every game day, exciting and worth every moment! I gave it all I had for you, and I’m so thankful we brought the Lombardi home to Philly.”

Lane Johnson, Eagles agree to contract extension through 2027

NFL: Super Bowl LIX-Kansas City Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

One-year extension for Philadelphia’s two-time Super Bowl champion right tackle.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed starting right tackle Lane Johnson to a one-year contract extension through the 2027 season, according to an official team announcement.

Here are some details on the new deal, via NFL insider Adam Schefter:

Johnson has reworked his contract to add $8 million dollars over the next two years, and an additional $30 million in guarantees, per his agent Ken Sarnoff from 1 of 1 Agency. The soon-to-be 35-year-old Johnson now will earn $48 million over the next two years, including $40 million guaranteed. [...] In the end, Eagles All-Pro RT Lane Johnson added one year at $25 million to his deal and he now is under contract through the 2027 season.

The Eagles previously rewarded Saquon Barkley with a contract extension earlier this month. This new deal for Johnson seems to be a similar kind of reward. After all, he’s now a two-time Super Bowl champion who was arguably the best starting blocker on those Vince Lombardi Trophy-winning offensive lines.

Days after winning Super Bowl LIX, Johnson tweeted that he was “looking forward to many more years to come” with the Eagles. Now this contract extension confirms that he intends on playing for at least a few more seasons.

And that’s very good news for the Eagles since the best right tackle in the NFL has shown no signs of slowing down.

Brandon Graham officially announces his retirement

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Kara Durrette/Getty Images

After an incredible 15-year career with the Eagles, the legendary defensive end is hanging up his cleats.

It’s a day we all knew was coming sooner rather than later, and after being able to return from a triceps injury just in time for Super Bowl LIX, Eagles DE Brandon Graham has officially announced his NFL retirement after 15 seasons.

The Eagles’ 2010 first-round pick made his announcement on Tuesday during a press conference at the NovaCare Complex.

Brandon Graham: “I gave everything I had. I have no regrets.” #Eagles pic.twitter.com/EPpyYbjNQs

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) March 18, 2025

Graham, who leads the Eagles in all-, has given everything to this team and the city, and deserves to retire the legend that he is. From the infamous strip sack against Tom Brady in Super Bowl 52, to being the league’s most notorious shit-talker, BG has oozed energy since the day he came to Philly. He had to overcome some challenges his first few seasons, but became the captain of the defense and was a huge reason for their success over the past decade.

Graham will undoubtedly end up in the Eagles Hall of Fame, and will wrap up his 15-year career with 487 total tackles, 76.5 regular season sacks, plus 5.5 postseason sacks, and nine all-time forced fumbles.

After missing nearly half of the 2024 NFL season, Graham’s future seemed uncertain — no one wanted his farewell tour to come to an end due to injury —, but thankfully he was able to come back and contribute to the team’s Super Bowl win, giving him the most fairytale ending he deserves.

Cheers to BG!

(It’s probably not goodbye since he lives in the Philly area and he’s always talked about sticking around even after he hangs up his cleats, so we’ll probably see him around in some capacity soon.)

The Linc - “Howie Roseman has built his roster to allow the Eagles to reload for next season rather than rebuild”

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/18/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

10 takeaways from the first week of 2025 NFL free agency - PFF
The Eagles have let several key contributors walk, but that’s OK. After winning the franchise’s second Super Bowl, the Eagles had some decisions to make in the offseason. They let several key players walk in free agency, including Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Mekhi Becton, Darius Slay, James Bradberry, Isaiah Rodgers and Oren Burks, while also trading Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Texans. That sounds like a lot. But the Eagles are built to survive such high-volume departures. Williams can be replaced by Moro Ojomo, who came on late last season and earned an 89.5 PFF overall grade in the Super Bowl. Jalyx Hunt started to see an increased role late in the year and could be a very capable replacement for Sweat. And we all saw what the Eagles’ rookie cornerbacks accomplished last season to know they are in good hands despite losing their veteran options. General manager Howie Roseman has built his roster to allow the Eagles to reload for next season rather than rebuild.

Eagles’ player development will be the key to keeping their Super Bowl window open - BGN
There’s no doubt defensive coordinator Vic Fangio deserves the lion’s share of the credit for the improvement in the defense, and former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and head coach Nick Sirianni also must receive their bouquets, too. And the most important aspect of player development lies within the player himself, to be coachable, hard-working, and diligent. All are immensely talented, and that should not be forgotten. But for the Philadelphia Eagles in the Sirianni/Jalen Hurts era, this is the way. When you’ve run out of cap space and cash on hand to go high on the hog on veteran stars in free agency or trades, you have to draft well, shop in the bargain bin, and then develop those players. Over the last three years, the Eagles have done a magnificent job doing both.

NFL free agency: Eagles sign former New York Giant Azeez Ojulari - Big Blue View
Ojulari has been a disruptive pass rusher whenever he’s been on the field, but he has also proved to be a liability as a run defender. His injury concerns were born out and his rookie year was his last healthy season. That is likely why Ojulari only signed a one-year deal with the Eagles when he was projected to sign a relatively rich multi-year deal.

Eagles Add Ojulari - Iggles Blitz
Ojulari checks both boxes. The Giants drafted him out of Georgia back in 2021. Joking aside, this is a smart signing. Ojulari piled up 22 sacks over the past four years, including 6 last season. He has okay size at 6-3, 240. He won’t turn 25 until June so he’s in the prime of his career. And Ojulari should be fired up to show what he can do on a one-year prove-it deal. He will be very motivated. The Eagles can have Nolan Smith and Josh Uche on one side and then Jalyx Hunt and Ojulari on the other side. That’s just a guess on my part. They can mix and match to find the right combos. The key is that you have four guys who can all get to the QB. Patrick Johnson offers more depth and STs ability. The wild card is Bryce Huff. Is there a spot for him in this group? Ojulari does have 30 career starts. He’s not just a situational rusher like Uche. Ojulari has 37 QB hits in 46 career games. He is disruptive and affects the QB.

Eagles film review: Azeez Ojulari has the upside to boost Birds’ edge-rusher rotation, but can he reach it? - Inquirer
While there are plenty of high-level reps included here, Ojulari’s inability to reach his full potential four years into his career can be explained mostly by injuries and, to a lesser degree, a lack of consistency. Ojulari has missed time in each of the last three seasons, making his rookie year the only full season he’s managed since getting taken in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was used primarily as a designated pass-rusher with the Giants as well, playing just 189 snaps against the run compared to 202 against the pass and dropping into coverage on just six of those snaps, according to PFF. For every productive rush Ojulari had last season, there were also examples where his initial burst off the line of scrimmage didn’t stress opposing tackles enough and he struggled to consistently work a secondary move to break free.

4 takeaways on Lane Johnson’s one-year contract extension with the Eagles - PhillyVoice
The longer Johnson plays at an elite level, the more he seemingly wants to keep going. Johnson is 34. He turns 35 in May. He just had one of the best seasons of his stellar career, and he said at the end of the season that his body felt good. We can probably trust him on that, as he has been forthright at other times during his career about nagging injuries, notably the ankle injury he suffered during the 2018 season that bothered him for years. Jason Peters and Andrew Whitworth played into their 40’s, and Trent Williams, who turns 37 in July, is still playing at a high level. Johnson is every bit the player and athletic freak of nature as any of those guys. Hell, I can confidently say with no hyperbole whatsoever that he’s one of the best offensive tackles in NFL history. If he doesn’t suffer any kind of serious injury, there’s little reason to doubt that he can keep playing at a high level for three more seasons.

’I’ve got a lot left in the tank’: Joshua Uche’s ready to compete in Eagles’ defense - PE.com
“The stars aligned, and I feel like this is where God called me to be.” A young and hungry Joshua Uche met with the Philadelphia media virtually for the first time on Monday afternoon after officially signing his one-year deal at the NovaCare Complex. The outside linebacker came to Philadelphia as a free agent after spending part of the 2024 season with the Chiefs. Uche was traded to Kansas City from the Patriots in October after spending the first four and a half years of his career in New England. Despite limited playing time on defense in the six games he played with the Chiefs, Uche is just two seasons removed from his career-high 11.5 sack season with the Patriots in 2022. Now with a change of scenery, the sixth-year player is looking to get back to the success he has shown on the field. “Being 26 years old, I’ve got a lot left in the tank,” Uche said. “It just comes down to opportunity and getting on the field doing my job. Whenever I’m on the field I’ve been effective, I’ve been efficient, so it’s just all about getting on the field and doing my job.” According to Pro Football Focus, Uche has a pressure rate of 16.7 percent since 2022, which ranks sixth among edge defenders in the NFL.

Laremy Tunsil Presser: Jayden Daniels is a baller and he’s going to make my job hella easy - Hogs Haven
A hot topic of conversation all offseason had been what Adam Peters would do to enhance the Washington Commanders offensive line ahead of the 2025 season. A week ago, we all learned the answer when the NFL world was stunned by the announcement of a trade between the Commanders and Texans that would bring one of the best left tackles in the NFL, Laremy Tunsil, to Washington for a handful of picks. The trade was made official on Saturday, and the Commanders new LT spoke to the media today. Tunsil talked about the trade from the Texans to the Commanders, and how it was different from when Miami moved him. It was business for Houston as they wanted to get younger, and they’ve made a lot of changes this offseason. Tunsil will move from blocking for C.J. Stroud to blocking for Jayden Daniels, and he’s ready for his new QB to make his “job hella easy”.

2025 NFL free agency: Experts debate best, worst signings - ESPN
Eric Moody, fantasy football writer: The Commanders signing defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw. The three-year, $45 million contract was surprising, considering the depth of the 2025 draft class at defensive line. The $30 million in guaranteed money is also concerning because of Kinlaw’s health and statistical production. He has played in just 58 games since being drafted in 2020, with only 9.5 sacks and 74 pressures. [...] Ben Solak, NFL analyst: The Commanders signing Kinlaw. It is a big overpay, though it’s not surprising why it happened. Commanders general manager Adam Peters drafted Kinlaw with the 49ers, and he remains one of the most physically impressive defensive tackles. Dan Quinn’s defense is a good fit for his skill set, too — simple, upfield responsibilities. But $15 million per year is a huge number for a player who hasn’t strung together consistent, starting-caliber play.

How the Ja’Marr Chase deal could affect the Cowboys offseason plans - Blogging The Boys
Last year, the front office waited until the last minute to finalize deals with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. It’s puzzling to many that they continue to do business this way. With the Chase deal done, Trey Hendrickson remains the only player who could potentially surpass his teammate as the highest-paid player who does not play quarterback. However, Hendrickson is not on the same level as Parsons, despite leading the league in sacks in 2024. Parsons is a younger player with his prime right in front of him. The asking price for the Cowboys All-Pro pass rusher could exceed $40.5 million a year.

TEXANS FIND BACKUP CB IN RONALD DARBY: Houston brings in journeyman CB Ronald Darby on a one-year, $2.5M contract, per Adam Schefter. NFL free agency 2025: The best deals on defensive players (so far) - SB Nation
Super Bowl winners aren’t based entirely on superstars; they’re created by filling all the holes on their rosters intelligently and with the right money allotted to the right talent. As much as the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles had it going on with Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, the best offensive line in football, and a host of first-line defensive talent, there were as many guys like Zack Baun, who signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract to be part of the show. Vic Fangio saw enough in Baun to expand his role, and Baun responded with an All-Pro season that netted him a fat three-year, $51 million contract this year. So, when you’re looking to fill out your roster in the hopes of making it to next season’s Super Bowl, it behooves you to strike as many ridiculous bargains as possible. Based on the contracts that have already been drawn up in the 2025 free-agency space, here are the best bargains on the defensive side of the ball – the potential difference-makers whose contracts barely made a dent in the salary cap.

Eagles Film Review: Azeez Ojulari signing is an absolute no-brainer

Dallas Cowboys v New York Giants

Getting to know Philadelphia’s new edge rusher.

Well, I didn’t plan on writing about another Philadelphia Eagles free agent signing, as I thought I covered everyone here! However, the Eagles had other plans and recently announced the signing of Azeez Ojulari. I’ve watched him over the past couple of days, and I’m a massive fan of this move. It’s probably my favorite move (except for re-signing Zack Baun, obviously) of the offseason so far.

You can check out my podcast feed here to hear more from me, including videos on some of players soon. If you want to support me further, I have a Patreon linked to my podcast, which really helps me out. I appreciate all the support!

Numbers

Ojulari’s numbers are good. His pass rush win rate numbers are average, but his sack totals are very good. He can clearly convert pressures to sacks. The biggest issue with Ojulari is his health. He’s missed way too many games over his career.

The Film

Let’s roll through this quickly. There’s a lot of interesting stuff. I’ll start with his pass rushing and then get into his coverage and run defense.

Ojulari wins with his length and hand usage to disengage blockers. It’s obvious on film that he has great arm length.

Let's have a look at some Azeez Ojulari sacks. If you look at them all, a theme develops. He wins on a stunt here, and you can see his long arms and ability to use his hands to disengage. He uses his length to keep blockers away from him really well. pic.twitter.com/bX9ZGeTPzf

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

He is not the most explosive off the snap, but his elite closing speed allows him to get off blocks and convert pressures into sacks.

He's not explosive out of his stance here, and has to play through a chip, but you can see the length once again. He can get off blocks. His closing speed is fast, too. He can finish his pressures and turn them into sacks. pic.twitter.com/3pcRS4PQTv

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

He lacks top-level flexibility on the edge, but his arm length helps him keep blockers away.

He doesn't look particularly flexible or bendy on the EDGE, but his arm length makes up for it. Look at how he uses his left arm here to keep the blocker off him. The closing speed is fantastic once again! His ability to use his hands/length to shed blocks is a huge reason why he… pic.twitter.com/8Ndkxh4dAA

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

Look at that closing speed!

This is a great rep to highlight his athleticism. Burrow is a good athlete. Ojulari can recover after almost overrunning this play. This isn't a pass rush but shows his speed, burst, and ability to play in space. That recovery and ability to redirect is really good. He moves… pic.twitter.com/3iO5vafRzY

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

Ojulari can recover sufficiently, even when he overruns plays. He doesn’t need to turn the corner perfectly to finish with a sack.

This is a great rep that highlights his game. He's not flexible or bendy enough to turn the corner like the elite EDGE defenders can. However, he has enough athleticism and closing speed to recover and win even when he overruns the QB. Although he can't turn dip and turn the… pic.twitter.com/KWg2BVzrZN

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

Despite not having elite bend, his speed and length help him win against quarterbacks.

What a fantastic rep. Once again, this is all about his length and hand usage. Look how fast his hands are. He aggressively gets into the tackle's chest and swipes his hands away. He might not be able to dip and bend like the top guys, but he has just enough flexibility to get… pic.twitter.com/owtUocPhKV

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

This is a very similar play to the one above. Good luck blocking him with a tight end. He's pretty quick off the snap, but his closing speed stands out. That burst to finish is really good. He has that knack of getting to the quarterback as he winds up. Ojulari has the traits of… pic.twitter.com/sCHhGnIXhe

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

This is a good rep against a good guard. Blocking him with a tight end is ineffective due to his quick burst and closing speed.

Isaac Seumalo was a top guard, and Ojulari has enough to get past him. This is a great inside rush and shows his speed-to-power. He has the arm length to keep Seumalo moving backward and shed his block. His contact balance is strong here. He maintains his base and gets upfield… pic.twitter.com/cxevVrrWqh

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

As I’ve repeated a few times, he still finds ways to win despite not turning the corner that well.

We will end here with a great rush against the Vikings' left tackle. Hopefully, you can see the theme from this thread. He doesn't turn the corner that well. He definitely lacks the ability to dip and bend like the top EDGE defenders can. However, he still has enough to get past… pic.twitter.com/DkiNajCGSF

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 17, 2025

Ojulari wasn’t used much in coverage, but he looks comfortable dropping back. He appears more natural in coverage than other EDGE defenders like Huff and Sweat. I think he will fit Fangio’s system well and can drop when needed.

Watched a bit more Ojulari today. I really like him. He didn't drop into coverage much last year but I think he has the traits to be able to do it occasionally. He looks more natural dropping into coverage than Huff/Sweat did. He's smooth in space. pic.twitter.com/skGd0vKqbp

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 18, 2025

Another decent coverage rep, this time on the tight end. You can just tell he looks fine dropping into coverage. It looks relatively natural on film. Some EDGE defenders look incredibly awkward doing it. pic.twitter.com/5QwA610C1i

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 18, 2025

His run defense is solid, and he uses his length to keep blockers off and closing speed to make tackles. I watched all run defense reps where the opposing team had a 10+ yard gain, and I only held Ojulari responsible for one of them. He’s playable on early downs.

I didn't notice any huge issues in run defense either. It's not something he excels at, but he's playable. He can use his long arms to keep defenders off him, sets the edge well and his closing speed helps him take down the ball carrier. I thought the film showed a well-rounded… pic.twitter.com/obXf1Vvz0l

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 18, 2025

He sometimes struggles with run defense, missing tackles and lunging rather than wrapping up. But it’s not a huge concern. He’s here to rush the quarterback more than he is to stop the run.

My biggest issue was his ocassional lapse in run defense and missed tackles. He falls to the ground quite a lot and almost lunges for the ball carrier rather than wrapping up. pic.twitter.com/LMPfcEaaiB

— Jonny Page (@JonnyPage9) March 18, 2025

Overall

I love this signing. It's an absolute no-brainer, and I’m stunned another team didn’t give Ojulari more than $4m on a one-year deal.

Ojulari is a high-motor EDGE with a relentless playing style and strong upper-body strength. His length is exceptional and makes him an effective pass rusher. He isn’t someone who will get pressure on every rep, but he’s a finisher. He has an elite closing burst, enabling him to convert a high percentage of his pressures into sacks. He reminds me a little bit of Haason Reddick in that sense. When I initially scouted Reddick, I said this...

He is not someone who will win consistently and get constant pressure. If you think the Eagles have signed someone who can do that, I think you will be disappointed by how often very athletic tackles can block him quite easily and take him out of the play. But he is a splash player, a game-wrecker, almost like a DeSean Jackson type of player but on the defensive side. He might not get a ton of pressures but he makes huge plays and converts these pressures into sacks

I feel similar about Ojulari. However, he isn’t as explosive and can’t bend like Reddick can. But there are some similarities.

Ojulari doesn’t have many pass rush moves, and he isn’t a true ‘bend the edge’ guy, but he wins with his ability to disengage due to his arm length. You can see in the clips from above that he can’t bend and dip like the true elite EDGE rushers. His size can also be a disadvantage, making him vulnerable against bigger blockers, and he isn’t the cleanest tackler. However, I didn’t see a real negative on film except for his injury history.

I don’t see any negatives to this signing at all. Ojulari should fit well into Fangio’s scheme, and a $4m 1-year deal carries barely any risk. If he’s hurt and doesn’t play much, the Eagles aren’t wasting much cap room. However, he should arrive highly motivated on a 1-year deal and will want to have a big season.

I can easily see a situation where Ojulari has a fantastic year and then cashes in next year with a big contract elsewhere. The Eagles might only get Ojulari for one season, but there’s a good chance it’s a very productive one.

Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to comment below and ask any questions. If you enjoyed this piece, you can find more of my work and podcast here.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

BG Out, Baby - Iggles Blitz
Legend. Brandon Graham is a great story of perseverance. Things did not always go smoothly for him. He could have given up or gone elsewhere, but instead he fought through whatever came his way and carved out a spot for himself in Eagles history. In Philly history. BG is now a beloved figure in the city that was so tough on him for a long time. BG has a great smile and bigger than life personality. He is an easy player to love. One of the things that always stands out to me is how much joy he brings to those around him. He genuinely loves being part of a football team. He genuinely loves playing the game of football. You watch clips of him and can’t help but break out with a big smile.

Brandon Graham officially announces his retirement - BGN

On retirement day, Brandon Graham gets the last laugh with the Eagles after 15 years - PHLY
You might have heard the laugh before you saw the man — on Tuesday, and for 15 years. To call it a laugh doesn’t do justice to Brandon Graham. It’s a cackle. A trademark. Play that sound for any teammate, any coach, any Eagles employee, and they could identify the person just by that sound. They would probably smile, too. Because you know Graham is — even on retirement day. “One more year,” he joked while dapping everyone in the auditorium. If only. There have been enough “one more year” decisions. He didn’t know if he would make it to Year 5. Year 10 was an achievement. But to last 15 years? That’s beyond anyone’s dreams. And to endure in a career that included a strip sack to win Philadelphia its first Super Bowl — perhaps the most famous play in franchise history — and to return from a season-ending injury to win a second Super Bowl, and then fade off in the sunset? That’s beyond anyone’s imagination. So, of course, he laughed. He cried. He smiled. He joked. He talked trash. He was self-deprecating. He was a teammate. He was a husband. He was a father. He was a son. He was a Philadelphian, all in one — a 10-minute speech, a 30-minute press conference. And now he’s retired.

NFL mock draft 2025: Browns pair Abdul Carter with Myles Garrett, Titans take QB Cam Ward at No. 1 - SB Nation
32.) Philadelphia Eagles: EDGE James Pearce Jr., Tennessee. Even after winning the Super Bowl, the Eagles’ luck continues to roll as they have one of the most athletically gifted edge rushers in the draft fall to them at No. 32. Pearce blazed a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash at 6’5 and 245 pounds. That’s special for a guy who will be chasing quarterbacks as a part of one of the top defenses in the NFL from this past season. At one point last year, Pearce was mocked as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. That’s how much hype this guy had after recording 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss in 2023. Those numbers took a slight step back to 7.5 and 13, respectively, and scouts still feel like he needs to add mass and strength for the next level. Still, this is nonetheless another luxury pick for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Daniel Jeremiah 2025 NFL mock draft 3.0: Giants, Steelers, Titans pick QBs; Cowboys select WR - NFL.com
DL Shemar Stewart: Stewart has offered more disruption than production to this point in his career, but the Eagles made a similar move with Nolan Smith a couple years ago and it has paid off in a big way.

NFL free agency: Roster additions, cuts, remaining questions - ESPN
One thing we heard: It’s hard to ignore all the trade buzz surrounding veteran tight end Dallas Goedert. He is in the last year of his deal and carries a cap hit of around $12 million. Perhaps a team with playoff aspirations and cap room will strike a deal for the 30-year-old playmaker this offseason. Biggest remaining roster question: Safety. The decision to trade C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Texans puts the position in the spotlight. Former third-round selection Sydney Brown should get a chance to vie for the starting gig alongside Reed Blankenship, but it’s a good bet general manager Howie Roseman adds competition before the start of the season to have his bases covered. Defensive tackle and linebacker could use some additions as well.

Signs Point to Titans Likely Keeping NFL Draft’s No. 1 Pick - SI
From Jason Kroulik (@crowlick): Who has the best roster in the NFL after the first round of free agency? ... Jason, let’s stick with the champs. The Philadelphia Eagles’ depth is apparent in their ability to absorb losses such as Josh Sweat (Arizona Cardinals), Milton Williams (Patriots), Darius Slay (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Mekhi Becton (Los Angeles Chargers). All are really good players, and Philly is prepared, from a roster standpoint, to fill the roles each of those guys held. Want to know how good teams stay good? They’re balanced enough to be able to address needs a year or two out, which gives them flexibility in whom they decide to pay, with the knowledge that, if you’re good enough, paying everyone’s not realistic. No one is in that spot to the degree that the Eagles are.

One positive takeaway for all 32 NFL teams following NFL free agency - PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: The coverage unit will be just fine. Philadelphia’s most notable move was retaining Zack Baun, the NFL’s highest-graded linebacker in 2024. That was primarily driven by his league-leading 90.9 PFF coverage grade. The Eagles also lost Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers in free agency but picked up Adoree’ Jackson, who could start comfortably in Vic Fangio’s defense. Jackson’s 82.6 zone PFF coverage grade ranked fifth among qualified cornerbacks last season.

Jaguars sign former Eagles OT Fred Johnson - Big Cat Country
At Florida, Johnson started four games at right tackle and 28 at right guard for the Gators. He now returns back home to an offensive tackle group that features Walker Little, Anton Harrison, Chuma Edoga, and Cole Van Lanen.

The 5 O’Clock Club: Commanders special teams excellence in 2024 - Hogs Haven
Overall, though, the consistently high level of Washington’s special teams play made them one of the most successful ST units in the NFL last season, and was a key part of the team’s overall success. This is a clear tribute to ST coordinator, Larry Izzo, and the commitment to excellence in this phase of the game from the GM and head coach. It’s easy to look at a roster spot taken up by a linebacker like Mykal Walker and wonder why he’s there, but his 14 special teams tackles (5th in the NFL in ‘24) are often invisible to anyone looking at the headline numbers in the box scores. Having players like Nick Bellore, Jeremy Reaves and Percy Butler back to help mold the next iteration of special teams play along with the coaching staff should contribute greatly to the quest to build on the team’s 2024 success in the coming season. Hopefully, it’ll be another awesome year.

Dallas Cowboys have done what we asked them to so far this offseason - Blogging The Boys
To sum up these thoughts that were rumbling through my brain on the plane ride home after I played numbers 6 and 7 at what I believe is the most beautiful golf course in the world and got destroyed in the process, the waters have certainly stabilized with the Dallas Cowboys (unlike the Pacific Ocean on the day I played Pebble). There is a huge difference between the waters having stabilized and the team being properly in a place to finally deliver the ring to Mordor relative to what the franchise has been enduring for so long - but I’ll be darned if I don’t feel as if they have been listening and have done just about everything that we wanted them to on a philosophical level. Is there more work to be done? You betcha. They burned up the benefit of the doubt over and over and over, but the 2025 iteration of the team has taken a baby step towards earning some trust back.

NFC East 2025 free agency grades: Dallas Cowboys edition - PhillyVoice
But the Cowboys’ additions and subtractions take a back seat to the bigger picture, which is that Jerry Jones and the gang seemingly have learned nothing from their botched “wait it out” contract negotiation strategies with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, as Micah Parsons still does not yet have a new deal. Parsons is scheduled to play on his fifth-year option at a little over $24 million. Last offseason, new deals for Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence pushed the quarterback market to a place where Prescott was able to cash in on a $60 million/year deal. Similarly, a deal for Justin Jefferson got done before Lamb’s new deal, before Lamb finally signed a four-year deal worth $34 million/year. This offseason, while Jones was twiddling his thumbs, Maxx Crosby signed a new deal worth $35.5 million/year, and Myles Garrett got a new deal worth $40 million/year, temporarily making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. JaMarr Chase later topped Garrett’s deal when he signed a four-year deal worth $40.25 million/year. Those deals have no doubt raised the floor for a new Parsons deal. Grade: D.

Vikings won’t pursue Aaron Rodgers — what might that mean for the New York Giants? - Big Blue View
Russell Wilson quarterbacked the Steelers a year ago and is also a free agent of interest to the Giants. It seems right now that If Rodgers chooses the Steelers, or chooses not to play at all rather than join the Giants, the 37-year-old Wilson would be the Giants’ next logical target. Wilson visited the Giants last week. Wilson, though, has also received interest from the Cleveland Browns. What if the Giants lose out on both Rodgers and Wilson? The Giants have hosted both Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston for visits and were expected to hold a call with Mason Rudolph before he signed with the Steelers. The Giants are also likely to target a quarterback high in the draft. Whether one they want will be available at No. 3 is the question.

Adoree’ Jackson: 5 questions and answers about the new Eagles cornerback

New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles

Giants perspective on Philadelphia’s new CB.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed three members of the 2024 New York Giants since NFL free agency began. One of them was veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, whom the Birds were previously interested in during the 2021 offseason.

Let’s learn more about the new member of Philly’s secondary by getting a Giants perspective on him. Here’s what Ed Valentine of Big Blue View had to say about Jackson through answers to my questions.

1 - Can you recap his time with the Giants?

Jackson signed a three-year contract with the Giants in 2021, when then-GM Dave Gettleman was desperately trying to upgrade the talent on the roster. He was a good player, never a great one who changed games.

He sort of wore out his welcome at the end of 2023 with some business decisions. Thus, it was surprising that he ended up returning in 2024. I think he and the Giants wanted to move on, but the Giants couldn’t find a veteran cornerback and Jackson couldn’t find a job.

He was a bit player in 2024.

2 - I noticed you said Jackson to the Eagles “is sure to cause some gnashing of teeth in the Giants fan base.” Are fans indeed annoyed that he ended up in Philly?

That’s just me thinking “oh, watch him go to Philly and do things he never did in New York.” I don’t think fans care that much. They were pretty much done with Jackson.

3 - What are his strengths?

Jackson is a good athlete and not a bad coverage cornerback.

4 - What are his weaknesses?

Jackson has just four interceptions in an 8-year career. He doesn’t make plays on the ball, and doesn’t appear to catch the ball well. He doesn’t tackle particularly well, and at times it is clear he doesn’t really want to.

5 - Anything to know about him off the field?

He fancies himself as a really good basketball player. I played high school basketball and I asked him one time if I wanted to challenge somebody to a game of HORSE, who was the best shooter on the Giants’ roster. He said “ME.” Sadly, we never played.

BLG’s take: As is the case with most of the Eagles’ free agent additions, there’s no guarantee Jackson makes the 53-man roster. He’ll probably need to have a good offseason (or at least not have a totally bad one) to justify his spot on the team. Assuming Jackson makes the cut, he could be this year’s Isaiah Rodgers in terms of serving as an experienced backup cornerback who will play if one of the three starters gets hurt. We’re projecting that those starters will be Quinyon Mitchell and Kelee Ringo on the outside and Cooper DeJean in the slot. It’s also possible that Jackson could factor in as a punt and/or kick returner. If not the primary option, he provides depth for those roles.

Everybody loves Brandon Graham

Philadelphia Eagles v Los Angeles Rams

Appreciating an Eagles legend.

He was one of us.

He has always been one of us.

He just had to come to Philadelphia to realize it.

He’s a Philadelphia Eagles legend. He’s earned the right to be called that. He’s responsible for one of the most iconic plays in Philadelphia sports history—and incredibly, does so much more off the field. You always know he’s in the room by his contagious, bellowing laugh, and his infectious personality.

Everybody loves Brandon Graham.

And after anyone meets him, they come away feeling the affection is reciprocated.

That is why it was so hard to say goodbye this week when Graham announced his retirement after 15 seasons with the Eagles.

Graham’s fund, Team Graham, garners and distributes resources to causes in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. That positivity radiates from a Graham’s foundation created by his mother, Tasha, a cancer survivor, who worked until her feet were numb, and her eyes were halfmast doing overnights at the Chrysler plant in Detroit. She is the one who taught her son how to push through everything, even the early rejection from a sports-crazed city that could have broken him and didn’t.

He could have curled up and whined about how tough this city could be on its pro athletes. He didn’t. Instead, Graham turned the negativity into a positive, becoming an all-time Eagle great playing 15 seasons and in 206 games, more than any other player in franchise history.

“I didn’t know how many times I would be tested,” Graham said during his retirement speech. “I didn’t know how much I would grow, and I surely didn’t know how deeply I would fall in love with these fans and the team in this city. Today, as I sit here, I just want to thank God cause I know he’s the main reason, you know that was the biggest thing. I love my growth, my relationship with him, and just so much that I’ve shared with my teammates, and reflecting on a career that has meant everything to me.”

What many didn’t see, though heard about, was Graham’s incredible work off the field.

Team Graham provides mentors for children along with clothes and food to families in need. Graham is also a constant participant in the Eagles Autism Foundation and freely volunteers his time to the March of Dimes, Make a Wish, Ronald McDonald House, American Heart Association and Liberty USO.

Prior to Super Bowl LVII, Graham’s altruistic, fun-loving nature was featured on the Fox Sports pregame show. The story centered on Graham’s unique relationship with Joe Eitl, who has Down syndrome. Joe was born with a congenital heart defect. When he was seven, he underwent a procedure that caused his heart to pump blood at an appreciably high level of pressure. The result eventually damaged his organs. Joe regressed. In 2019, he was battling end-stage heart and liver failure. Joe would have to put on a transplant list. With his health deteriorating, doctors suggested hospice care as their next step. They were helpless. They could not do anything.

Graham had heard about Joe’s plight. He would send Joe motivational talks.

“We were having a tough time,” said Peg Eitl, Joe’s mother. “He had some bad days, where Joe just didn’t have the motivation to even get out of bed. All we had to do was put Joe on with Brandon. It’s why I say Brandon Graham saved my son’s life.”

In 2022 and 2024, Graham was the Eagles’ Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee.

“I’m incredibly honored to be named the Eagles’ Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year,” he said. “My journey in Philadelphia over the past 15 years has been a humbling one. This city has embraced me and supported me throughout my career.

“It’s been a blessing to not only play in front of the best fans in the NFL, but to have the chance to give back to a community that has now become my home. I’ve cherished every moment of this journey, and I’m grateful to be recognized alongside an inspiring group of men who are making a difference in their communities.”

Currently Philadelphia’s longest-tenured professional athlete, Graham has had a genuine touch on the Philadelphia community since the Eagles drafted him with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. At the ripe young age of 34, coming off an Achilles injury that allowed him to only play in two games in 2021, Graham experienced a career year as a driving force to the Eagles winning the NFC and reaching Super Bowl LVII. He had a career-high 11 sacks playing all 17 regular-season games.

“I just do stuff because I know all the little things make a difference,” Graham said. “I’m just me. This kind of just stumbled across my desk really. Nobody is defined by the situation they’re in. It’s all about what’s in your head and how you handle it. I am who I am because it’s the way I was raised. I am who I am because of my mother. I remember my first few years here. I’d stay in the house because I didn’t want to hear Philly fans tell me how much of a bust I was supposed to be (laughs).

“But I wouldn’t change anything. Adversity makes you stronger. It made me stronger.”

He means more to the Eagles than just his prowess on the field.

“Throughout his career, Brandon has exemplified everything it means to be a Philadelphia Eagle,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement on Graham’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination. “His relentless passion and commitment to making a difference, not only on the football field, but in the community is inspiring. A fierce competitor on the field, Brandon pours his heart and soul into the game for his team, city and fans.

“He’s beloved not just for the way he’s persevered through adversity, but because of the way he embraces everyone he meets with such kindness and love. His infectious personality radiates throughout our entire building, and it’s certainly touched the lives of many across the world. We are incredibly lucky to have had him as an Eagle for the past 15 years and are thrilled that he is our Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.”

To Eagles fans, Graham will always be a Super Bowl LII hero for his strip-sack on Tom Brady. He didn’t make his first Pro Bowl until 2020, and yet against long odds, at 34, coming off the torn Achilles injury, he still managed to get 11 sacks in 2022.

“I dreamed about a season like that,” Graham said. “I remember when I got carted off the field (during the Achilles injury) looking up at the sky. I knew there light at the end of that tunnel. I tried to flip it. I knew my 2021 season was over, and I started looking at the positives, instead of the negatives. That’s the way I am. I wanted that ring in the end. It’s disappointing that it didn’t. I felt great the whole year. Every time I got a chance, I took full advantage of my reps.

“It was hard, at first, coming off the bench. But I had to block out the easy routes, the tough times. I came in and finished guys off, because they were tired. I finished them. I had my mindset. I wanted to be the best Brandon Graham I could be. We had something special. We’ll have something special again.”

There was no one as authentic and real as Brandon Graham.

Avonte Maddox is not returning to the Eagles

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia’s 2018 draft pick is heading back to his hometown.

Avonte Maddox is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency to sign a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions, according to Maddox’s partner’s Instagram story.

Maddox, who actually has a Lions tattoo on his arm, is returning to his hometown of Detroit.

Maddox’s departure from the Eagles certainly comes as no surprise.

REVIEW: Maddox began the season as the Eagles’ nickel cornerback. Teams clearly picked on him from the jump, which eventually led to DeJean replacing him in the slot. Maddox then saw some occasional snaps as the dime cornerback but he even struggled in those appearances, leading to him losing that role as well. Maddox did move up the depth chart as a backup safety option later in the season. Maddox also did have a cool redemption moment with a huge fourth down pass breakup on a Patrick Mahomes pass in Super Bowl LIX. One play later, Jalen Hurts hit DeVonta Smith for the dagger that gave the Eagles a 34 to 0 lead.

OUTLOOK: Maddox, who turns 29 this month, is set to be a free agent. If the Eagles want to bring him back on the veteran minimum to compete for a roster spot, fine. He’s a well-liked guy in the locker room and he gives good effort. But bringing him back will hardly be a priority.

We’ll see if Maddox ends up making the Lions’ roster. If he does, he could return to Lincoln Financial Field for Detroit’s game against the Eagles in 2025.

The Eagles originally selected Maddox with a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He made 41 starts in 81 games played during a seven-year stretch. He struggled with injury issues and his best football seems to be behind him at this point but he was once a quality slot defender and always a good locker room guy to have around.

Best wishes to Maddox, forever an Eagles Super Bowl champion, moving forward.

The Eagles will need to find a new backup nickel cornerback in 2025. Adoree’ Jackson could contend for that role if he’s not already starting on the outside.

Adoree’ Jackson said watching the Eagles’ rookie cornerbacks thrive last season made him smile

Adoree.0.jpeg

One of the newest Eagles’ additions put pen to paper in Philly and then spoke to reporters about his decision.

The Eagles added veteran CB Adoree’ Jackson to the secondary, and he spoke to reporters after arriving to Philly to sign his new contract.

He considered signing with the Eagles the last time he hit free agency coming out of Tennessee, but explained that he chose the Giants because of the familiarity with so many players and staff. Jackson named guys like Saquon Barkley and James Bradberry as reasons he signed with New York, but noted he didn’t talk to Bradberry before signing with the Eagles.

Jackson did, however, talk to Barkley, and the RB told him that everyone in that locker room competes at everything they do, and that was all his former teammate needed to hear. Jackson said that whether it’s rock paper scissors, cards, or swimming, he wants to compete and be around guys who feel the same way.

The CB said that it’s cool that he’ll now be the older veteran in the room, and he’s excited to help the younger guys and to also learn from them, too.

“I’m not gonna lie, I really liked [Quinyon] Mitchell. I remember saying it — I don’t remember what game we were watching on tape, but I was like, ‘Damn, I haven’t seen a rookie play that well in — it’s been awhile.’

And then Cooper [DeJean] doing his thing. Yeah, that was a trip, because you know they have the thing about first white DB since whatever, whatever, so to see him thrive and do his thing, being a DB it made me smile.

It’s always cool to see somebody else, especially in the position that you’re in, knowing how tough it is, and the stuff you go up against, and to see those two thrive, especially at a young age, it put a smile on my face.”

Jackson was asked about his first career pick six on Christmas Day 2023 against the Eagles, and he said that it didn’t mean a whole lot considering the Giants ended up losing. More than the pick 6, the CB explained that he remembered the next drive when the Eagles were looking at 3rd and 20-something yards, Jackson was on the sideline getting oxygen, and A.J. Brown converted to eventually put the game out of reach.

He repeated several times at the end of his press conference that he’s most looking forward to competing and having fun, which means he should fit right in.

NFL Draft Rankings 2025: Wide receiver

Goodyear Cotton Bowl - Missouri v Ohio State

College football is churning out incredible wide receiver prospects every year. Three rookie receivers (and four rookies total) had over 1,000 receiving yards last year. At least one rookie wide receiver has passed that benchmark in every season since 2019. It’s almost a given that these guys can come into the NFL and immediately make a difference. The 2025 NFL Draft class has some Day 1 game changers that will go very high and a few mid round gems who will contribute early in their careers. For the Eagles, it’s doubtful they will target a receiver in the first round, but they do have needs given the lack of depth beyond AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.

1) Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State

Emeka Egbuka is exactly the kind of receiver that I will fall for every year. Yes he is not the biggest or fastest player in the class, but he is just so damn good at everything.

At 6’1”, 205, he has decent size and rarely is overpowered on the field. He thrives out of the slot, with advanced route running, fearless ball skills, and soft dependable hands. A kick return specialist at heart, Egbuka does a great job with the ball in his hands. He has vision, runs hard, and can make guys miss in space.

Yes he might be capped out athletically, but everything else is so damn good that he is going to come into the NFL and catch 80 passes without breaking a sweat.

NFL Comparison: Juiced Up Robert Woods, Houston Texans

2) Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona

The appeal with Tetairoa McMilla is obvious. He is big and strong at 6’4” and nearly 220 pounds. He has enough highlight reel catches in his career to make you dizzy. He has a 300 yard game to his name.

McMillan wins with his size, strength, and ball skills. Arizona trusted him in tight situations and he would win above the rim more often than his peers would. While he doesn’t have elite speed, he does build up a head of steam which makes him hard to bring down at full huff.

Where there’s concern is the ability to separate. He is not an urgent or refined route runner, and his bevy of contested catches make you wonder if they were happening because he couldn’t create space from the defensive back. It is a bit of a risk, given this archetype of receiver is majorly hit or miss in the NFL.

NFL Comparison: DeVante Parker

3) Travis Hunter, Colorado

I will be sure to write about Travis Hunter as both a receiver and a cornerback. Make no mistake that he is a first round pick at either position. Which is truly something.

Purely as a receiver, Travis Hunter is remarkable. He is leaner at six foot and under 190 pounds, but he is a fluid athlete who makes routes at all levels of the field look easy. His speed is dangerous, especially with the ball in his hands. Speaking of hands, he has fantastic ball skills with the ability to make plays in tight quarters and above the rim.

Size and playing strength will be a concern against NFL cornerbacks, but skill and athleticism are not in question, nor is his mentality. The only real question is how NFL teams decide to divvy up his time between offense and defense.

4) Luther Burden III, Missouri

Luther Burden’s best football is still very much ahead of him.

The talented receiver was the focal point of a really beige offense in 2024. They relied on his athleticism to win after the catch and rarely put him in a position to produce efficiently. That being said, he is really excellent after the catch. He’s got great burst with a strong build and stronger running style.

Throw on his 2023 tape and you see a much more complete player, who won at every level of the field instead of being used like a suped up third-down back.

There is a lot of projection with Burden, given his simplified role at Mizzou, but his talent should help him produce early in his career as he continues to iron out his feel for the game as a #1 or 2 receiver.

NFL Comparison: Deebo Samuel, Washington Commanders

5) Matthew Golden, Texas

After playing behind two excellent receivers for most of his career and missing time due to injury, Matthew Golden broke out in a big way this season.

Golden is not a big player by any means at 5’11” and a bit over 190 pounds, but he is very, very fast. Speed comes easy to him, before and after the catch. He can win at every level of the field and make defenses pay for blinking when he is going out for the ball.

He is definitely more of an “on the ground” receiver, who won’t win contested situations very often. He can also improve his route running sharpness instead of relying purely on athleticism, but his potential is tantalizing and he could thrive quickly in the right setting.
