The Washington Commanders are back in Ashburn for the tenth day of training camp practices. Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media before practice and gave some injury updates. Brandon Coleman won’t practice after leaving the field with an apparent leg injury. The team is heading to New England to play their first preseason game against the Patriots. The two teams will have a joint practice in Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Deebo Samuel injured his finger on Saturday, and wasn’t on the field for the first set of 11 on 11s, giving Chris Moore and Luke McCaffrey some snaps with the ones. Samuel was back on the field shortly after for a diving catch from a rainbow pass from Jayden Daniels. Bill also continues to impress at RB.

Good finish to the day for CB Trey Amos, defending a fade to McCaffrey. Also picked off a Daniels pass earlier (Moore couldn’t hold onto it; ball was there). In between Deebo Samuel caught one vs him over the middle.

Dan Quinn: Brandon Coleman won’t practice, unsure on availability for New England

Screenshot_2025_08_04_092040.png

Dan Quinn got in front of the mic before the Washington Commanders returned to practice after a day off. Brandon Coleman won’t practice today and they will evaluate his leg injury before they travel to New England. He left the field on Saturday, but there won’t be any updates until Wednesday. Quinn was also asked about Terry McLaurin getting off the PUP list(ankle), and he said he would need to be ramped up like any other player coming off an injury. Sam Cosmi is recovering from an ACL injury, and Quinn still isn’t ruling out a Week 1 return, but continues to say there is a lot more that needs to be learned and done before he’s cleared. Cosmi has been hitting all the markers as he recovers from the January injury.

Last practice before traveling to New England:

One last install session today for the Commanders before heading to New England, and Dan Quinn says there'll be some heavy situational work done today as they get ready.

— David Harrison (@DHarrison82) August 4, 2025

Brandon Coleman injury:

Dan Quinn said LG Brandon Coleman will not practice today (left practice the other day with apparent leg injury). Not sure yet status for rest of the week. Quinn will provide injury updates on Wednesday and availability for the preseason opener Friday.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2025

Joint practice with the Patriots before Friday’s game:

Quinn is looking forward to his players seeing different styles during the joint practice with the Patriots

— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 4, 2025

Terry McLaurin’s PUP/injury status:

Dan Quinn said there is no timetable for Terry McLaurin to be activated off PUP (ankle). That's independent of the contract talks.

— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 4, 2025
Quinn, asked how much time McLaurin would need to get ready, said the 1st step will be getting him back on field testing ankle (deceleration cuts). will follow process. "We've all seen through the years someone hustles back and they got banged up and didn't follow the process."

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2025

Johnny Newton:

"What a difference a year makes," DQ says when it comes to Johnny Newton. "To see him fully doing all the things, that's been exciting to me."

— David Harrison (@DHarrison82) August 4, 2025

Bobby Wagner:

Quinn said Bobby Wagner is very disciplined, very structured in his process. “There’s not an off switch either him.”

— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 4, 2025

Sam Cosmi’s ACL recovery:

Quinn said it’s still too early to call in terms of Cosmi’s availability for Week 1, but he is “busting his ass and doing a lot of field work.” The team likes his progress so far

— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 4, 2025
Dan Quinn said having G Sam Cosmi (ACL) back in time for Week 1 remains on the table but certainly not a guarantee. Quinn still doesn't want to speculate on a timetable for him. Said Cosmi is working diligently to improve his leg strength and continues to hit all of his…

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 4, 2025
Quinn said Sam Cosmi's availability for the opener "still on the table" but a LOT more to learn. Seems more about not ruling him out yet. Still would be a very fast return; this group has not rushed players back.
"Pleased where he's at," Quinn said. "He's hitting all the marks."

Patriots WRs vs Commanders DBs:

Joshua Dobbs was 13-for-15. Lot of separation by the Pats’ pass-catchers vs. Washington’s DBs.

Patriots pressure on Daniels:

Patriots front getting through vs Daniels, especially inside. I got Khyiris Tonga, Harold Landry down for pressures. Also holding up well against stretch runs.

Only thing is the safeties can’t cover Zach Ertz. But not sure how many of these throws are getting out in a real game.

There are a lot of new players on the team that will be playing their first game with the Commanders, and most of them are fighting for a roster spot. Backup QB Sam Hartman will start.

Dan Quinn: We have high standards, and we missed them tonight

Screenshot-2025-08-08-232119.png

Dan Quinn spoke to the media after the Washington Commanders lost their preseason opener against the New England Patriots 48-18. The team didn’t play their starters while the Patriots did for several drives. Quinn said the team has standards and they were not met tonight. There was a lot of sloppy play with 13 penalties which is really bothered Washington’s 2nd-year head coach. All three phases of the game had breakdowns, starting with a 100-yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown by rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson.

Dan Quinn: “If you get your ass kicked and we’re in the fight the whole time, I can live with that. … I can live almost with any result when you put it all in and do it right, but when it’s sloppy and not to the standards, man, that burns my ass.”

Dan Quinn: OL out for the season; 14 free agents worked out after practice

usa_today_26689770.jpg

Dan Quinn spoke to the media for the first time since returning from their road game against the Patriots. The Commanders were blown out in New England, losing 48-18. Quinn said the team has reviewed the tape, gone over what went wrong, and worked on correcting the mistakes. He said the team will look a lot different when they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football next week.

OT Lucas Niang tore his ACL during Friday night’s game against the Patriots, and he’ll miss the season. He was signed over a week ago, and Quinn said he had a good start with the team. Washington worked out 14 players after practice including 7 LBs. Quinn was asked about competition at kicker after Matt Gay missed a field goal on Friday night. He said that’s not where they’re at right now. Gay went 4 for 5 in today’s practice, missing a 38-yarder.

Washington Commanders make 8 roster moves after preseason opener

gettyimages-2173303831.jpg

The Washington Commanders announced 8 roster moves after holding tryouts for 14 players yesterday. The roster shuffle comes after the team’s 48-18 preseason opener loss to the New England Patriots on Friday night. Dan Quinn said the game wasn’t up to their standards, and was especially disappointed in special teams kickoff coverage that allowed two big returns including an opening kickoff touchdown by rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson.

The Washington Commanders signed three players today, and all three of them were at yesterday’s tryouts. LB Duke Riley and CB Essang Bassey were reported yesterday, and CB Antonio Hamilton Sr. joins them as new additions to the defense/special teams. Washington also released three players(DE Viliami Fehoko Jr, CB Allan George, LB Dominique Hampton). Fehoko Jr was injured on Friday night. Dom Hampton was a 5th round pick last year that was only active for one game, but looked lost on the field vs the Patriots.

The Commanders also placed two players on injured reserve. CB Kevon Seymour didn’t make the trip to New England and was one of seven players dealing with an injury. OT Lucas Niang was signed less than two weeks ago, but tore his ACL and is done for the year.

We have made the following roster moves:
– Signed CB Essang Bassey, CB Antonio Hamilton Sr. and LB Duke Riley
– Released DE Viliami Fehoko Jr., CB Allan George and LB Dominique Hampton
– Placed T Lucas Niang and CB Kevon Seymour on the Reserve/Injured List pic.twitter.com/mvEIHQoPaZ

Dan Quinn: Burgundy & Gold scrimmage tomorrow to evaluate players and coaches

Screenshot-2025-08-11-134819.png

The Washington Commanders are holding a light “jog thru” practice this afternoon. They held a full practice yesterday for Military Appreciation Day, but slowed it down for their second practice back in Ashburn, VA. The team is preparing to host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football for their second preseason game. The long break between games gave Quinn the idea to hold a Burgundy vs Gold scrimmage game tomorrow. This will help help evaluate the players, and also the coaching staff as he continues developing a succession plan.

The team made 8 roster moves today, and Quinn said releasing players is one of the hardest parts of the job. Dominique Hampton was a 5th round pick last year, but looked overwhelmed during the first preseason game, and was released today. Quinn said it wasn’t working out, and they wanted to give him an opportunity to latch on to another team.

Laremy Tunsil left practice yesterday with a groin injury, but Quinn said he would be on the field for today’s jog-thru, and should be available for the scrimmage. Marcus Mariota has been dealing with a lower leg injury, and he’s working to the side, but he’s not there yet. Sam Hartman started the first preseason game with Josh Johnson finishing out the game. Jayden Daniels is expected to play a series or two, and will likely pass the torch to Johnson with Mariota sidelined.

LIVE: HC Dan Quinn speaks to the media before practice https://t.co/bjEszRq8dw

— Washington Commanders (@Commanders) August 11, 2025

Burgundy and Gold game:

Dan Quinn addressing the media. Today is a jog through, but Quinn said the team will have a Burgundy & Gold game. The roster will be separated into two separate teams to compete against each other

— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) August 11, 2025
Dan Quinn said he's broken the team up into two teams — Burgundy Team and Gold Team, and that includes players and coaches.

They'll have a jog-through today and then a "game" tomorrow. Fun.

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 11, 2025
This extra long gap between games gave Quinn the window for this intrasquad idea. I like it. https://t.co/IE90GfemBn

— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 11, 2025
It's going down tomorrow in Ashburn. The Burgundy and Gold Scrimmage.

— Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) August 11, 2025

Laremy Tunsil groin injury:

Lremy Tunsil looked like he tweaked his groin yesterday and didnt finish prax. Dan Quinn doesnt seem concerned, says Tunsil will still do some work

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 11, 2025
Laremy Tunsil had to exit practice early yesterday. But Dan Quinn said he'll work today (in a jog-through) and then likely participate Tuesday when they have a "Burgundy and Gold" scrimmage. They're dividing up the team into two groups.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 11, 2025

Marcus Mariota lower leg injury:

Dan Quinn, when asked about his level of concern with Marcus Mariota: "He's getting closer but he's not there yet."

Mariota is dealing with a lower leg injury. Was throwing to the side yesterday but hasn't participated with the team much in camp and didn't travel to New England.

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 11, 2025

Evaluating future playcallers on the staff:

DQ said he thought of the intrasquad scrimmage when he saw the preseason schedule had a week+ gap. Also wants to look at other possible play callers on the staff, mentions "succession plan." Very interesting

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 11, 2025

Injuries affecting OL cohesion:

Quinn said "there's concern" about the offensive line meshing because of some injuries (Coleman still out;no Cosmi yet). Said it can impact the "non-verbal cues" that result from working together a while and having good cohesion.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 11, 2025
But he added that throughout the season pretty much every OL endures injuries so it's good to get used to other guys.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 11, 2025

LB Duke Riley:

Dan Quinn on adding another LB (Duke Riley) to the mix: "We just thought it was time. … We just felt like we needed another player."

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 11, 2025
Asked Dan Quinn about adding a LB (Duke Riley) but sticking with the WR group:

On LB: "We just thought it was time. … We felt like we needed another player."

On WR: Always looking to improve but "we do like what we're seeing… but you have to push it."

— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 11, 2025

I did not see #Commanders safety, Tyler Owens, at practice today.

— CWallSports (@cwallse) August 12, 2025
Jacory Croskey-Merritt did not participate in the scrimmage. Had a shoulder issue from the preseason opener. Nothing big; just precaution. Chris Rodriguez had a nice outing — also sustained a block at the goal line on a Hartman scramble for a TD.

First Series:

Great start for the Commanders defense (gold) in the 11×11 scrimmage.

1st/10/35: Sainristil PBU vs Deebo on quick out

2nd/10/35: B-Rob lost one. Read play in backfield. Wagner.

3rd/11/34: Payne sack of Daniels before he could check it to Ekeler. (Whistled not actual tackle).

— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 12, 2025

Second series:

Good on good, second series —

1st/15/35: Sainristil tight coverage, PBU on Osborn from Daniels.

2nd/15/35: Daniels incomplete middle of field

3rd/15/35: Daniels to McCaffrey on crosser for 11-yard. Watch and run. Massive hit by Sainristil. Luke slow to get up but OK.…

First team offense struggling to find its footing

— Lynnell Willingham (@Nell_BTP) August 12, 2025

QBs struggling:

This has NOT been a good day for either QB.

Expect it with Hartman.

Not with Jayden Daniels but the mix of 1s and 2s on defense has contributed to a big struggle so far.@team980

Duke Riley:

Duke Riley has already flashed making a couple of nice plays

The Washington Commanders release their 2025 jersey schedule

Screenshot-2025-08-13-125736.png

The Washington Commanders announced their jersey schedule for their 17 games this season. They added a “Super Bowl era” alternate this year to the three-jersey lineup that was introduced in 2022 when the name was changed to the Commanders.

Washington opens up the 2025-26 season by hosting the New York Giants with their “Monument White” jerseys. They will wear the 2022 white jerseys the most this season, but the other 7 games will be on the road. The “Legacy Burgundy” jerseys will get 5 appearances this season, two on the road, and three at home. The “Super Bowl Era” jerseys get three appearances before they eventually replace the MWs. Their first appearance will be in Week 9 against the Seahawks, and all three games are home games that will get high visibility.

And finally the “Battle Blacks” are only getting one appearance this season, and it will be a rematch from their most famous game in franchise history. The Commanders wore their black alternate uniforms last season against the Chicago Bears at home, and the world watched as NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels threw the Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown to complete the amazing win. The black uniforms get a rematch against a Bears team that saw their season completely unravel after that one play.

Check out the full jersey schedule below!
