Chargers showing interest in Rutgers CB who impressed at pro day

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 04 Ohio State at Rutgers

Rutgers cornerback Eric Rogers has garnered interest from the Chargers and several other teams in recent weeks, including the Ravens and Giants.

The Chargers signed veterans Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste during the first week of free agency to pair with youngsters Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart. That’s a fair quartet to begin the year with, but the Chargers should not be satisfied with the depth at such an important position. Ja’Sir Taylor and Deane Leonard are still on the team, but they’re from the previous regime and Jim Harbaugh likely wants to keep bringing in players that fit his image.

Per a recent interview done by The Draft Network’s Justin Melo, the Chargers have reportedly shown interest in former Rutgers cornerback Eric Rogers. At his recent pro day, Rogers impressed in front of scouts with an elite 6.84 in the three-cone drill. Other numbers noted by Melo were a broad jump at 10’3” and a 40 time that ranged from the mid to late 4.5s.

Rogers began his collegiate career with the Northern Illinois Huskies where he played from 2020-2022. In three years there, he totaled 44 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, and five pass breakups.

After transferring to Rutgers, Rogers started 12 games for the Scarlet Knights with 11 of them coming as a senior in 2024. He ended his career in the Big Ten with 53 tackles, one tackles for loss, one sack, 10 pass breakups, one interception, and two forced fumbles.

Chargers send NaVorro Bowman to take in UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger’s private pro day

UCLA Bruins defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 20-17 to win a NCAA Football game.

Carson Schwesinger was named a First-Team All-American after just his first year as a starter for the UCLA Bruins.

On Wednesday afternoon, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that 30 NFL teams sent representatives to take in the private pro day being held for UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger, including the Chargers who specifically had inside linebackers coach NaVorro Bowman in attendance.

Schwesinger is currently viewed as one of the top inside linebackers in this year’s class. He held his own separate pro day apart from the rest of his UCLA teammates due to a hamstring injury he suffered while training for the draft.

UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger had 30 teams — including LB coaches from Dallas, the Chargers, Giants, Saints and Broncos — in attendance for his private pro day today in Los Angeles. He met privately with the LB coaches for Dallas, the Giants and Saints. He did position drills,…

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 2, 2025

During his pro day, Schwesinger weighed in at 238 pounds on his 6’2 1/2” frame. He did not run the 40-yard dash, but posted a 7.05 in the three-cone drill, 4.25 in the short shuttle, and jumped 10’7” in the broad jump. Add that to the impressive 39.5” vertical jump he posted at the NFL combine and you’ve got one of the most-athletic linebackers in the class.

Just two seasons ago in 2023, Schwesinger was still just a reserve player for the Bruins. In 2024, he broke out in a big way, earning First-Team All-American honors while leading the nation with 90 solo tackles (136 total). He also stuffed the rest of the stat sheet, posting 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Schwesinger’s notable agility numbers immediately show up on tape. He possesses elite read-and-react timing with a twitchy lower body that helps him maximize efficiency in his path to ball carriers. He’s also a very sticky tackler when he gets hands on, something he was able to refine as a core special teams player for the Bruins.

The Chargers are currently returning most of their 2024 linebacker room this season, aside from Nick Niemann who signed with the Houston Texans in free agency. Daiyan Henley once again will lead the group along with veteran Denzel Perryman, Troy Dye, 2024 third-round pick Junior Colson who hopes to have a much better (and healthier) season in year two.

The Chargers could stand to upgrade this room further, and Schwesinger would easily raise both the floor and ceiling of the group, but the Chargers may not get the chance to draft him at No. 55 as he’s expected to go within the first 50 picks. They also need help at positions with more pressing needs, such as tight end, wideout, and defensive tackle.

Should the Chargers somehow land Schwesinger with their second-round pick, how would you all feel about it? Yay or nay? Let us know all of your thoughts in the comments below!
