So much for a sleepy early-August summer’s day.
The Boston Celtics made two moves today to further reshape their roster. First they traded Georges Niang and then they signed free agent big man Chris Boucher.
Let’s start with the details.

This move will please many Celtics fans who were not very keen on Niang joining the team (despite the fact that he’s Lawrence, Massachusetts). It also shaves further salary off the books and pushes the team closer to the 1st apron. With that said, the team also used some of that freed up cap space to make their next move.
Free agent forward Chris Boucher has agreed to a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Boston Celtics, agent Sam Permut of Roc Nation tells ESPN. Boucher lands a guaranteed deal with the Celtics and is expected to have a significant role in the frontcourt. pic.twitter.com/H13dHVyuu8

All told, Brad Stevens has fully embraced the Gap Year philosophy, cutting over $300M in Luxury Taxes.

Is that team going to be any good this year? Only if a lot of role players have breakout or career years. But it could be an interesting team to watch and evaluate to see who could stick around for future seasons when the team has Tatum back in place.
