Chicago Bulls’ Josh Giddey responds to awful night in 145-117 blowout loss to Thunder

The Chicago Bulls wanted a chance to see how their roster stacked up against the best team in the association. The Bulls might want to rethink their rebuild strategy after getting pummeled 145-117 by the Oklahoma City Thunder in front of 18,203 fans at the Paycom Center on Monday night.

At 63-12, the Thunder have the NBA’s best record. Whatever momentum the Bulls had entering Monday night’s contest took a sobering hit. OKC limited point guard Coby White to seven points, one assist, and one steal. The back-to-back Eastern Conference Player of the Week was -39 against the Thunder.

Shooting guard Josh Giddey made his first return to Paycom Center since he was traded from the Thunder. He had a forgettable night on the court, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists. He went 1-of-5 on three-point attempts.

White and Giddey’s performance should make the Bulls reconsider giving $70 million to Giddey and White for a backcourt that can’t come within 30 points of the Thunder.

The Chicago Bulls didn’t play good enough

Following the game, Giddey told CHSN that Monday night’s performance didn’t match the expectations the Bulls have in the locker room.

“That’s the best team to league for a reason,” Giddey said. “And if we want to get up to, you know, par with teams like this, we’ve got to be way better. And I thought if we want to be serious about the team we talk about being and where we want to get to, tonight wasn’t good enough from myself and then from a lot of guys.”

Time to bounce back tomorrow.

The Oklahoma City Thunder showed what an elite team looks like

Giddey credited the Thunder for making it hard for the Bulls’ offense to score early in the game.

“I mean, we couldn’t make a shot,” Giddey said. “They are the best defensive team in the league. They make it tough on you. I thought we turned the ball over too much, myself included. We probably tried to score in the first action a little too much. And that’s a defense you have to keep moving and get through and clear out the nails so we can get downhill.

“So there just wasn’t enough game plan execution early on, and dug ourselves a 30-point hole and couldn’t find ourselves out of it.”

Giddey is thankful for the team’s quick turnaround time after the loss.

Chicago will play the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night at the United Center. The Bulls will try to climb back in the Eastern Conference standings, as they fell one game behind the Miami Heat and are now in 10th place with a 33-42 record.

Josh Giddey had this one marked on his calendar

Giddey talked about his return to Oklahoma City and said he had the game marked on his calendar.

“I had this one set up on my calendar because, not because I wanted to come back to get revenge or anything, just to see everybody, be back in this building, and see all the guys and everybody in the organization that I’ve built relationships over the last three, four years,” said Giddey, who was selected No. 6 by the Thunder in 2021.

Giddey’s exit with the Thunder started when he was benched in the playoffs last year after struggling against the Dallas Mavericks in the second round. One has to wonder if his eventual exit from Chicago could be jumpstarted with a poor performance against OKC on Monday night.

It’s hard to justify a contract extension worth nearly $30 million per year after nights that show the Bulls are a Play-In team and nothing more.

‘Problem’: Chicago Bulls have troubling injury news surface before Play-In Tournament

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan reacts to a call during the fourth quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center.

The Chicago Bulls took great risk to make the Play-In Tournament, sacrificing a chance to hasten their rebuild, develop young talent, and tank for a high draft pick (and the draft’s prize, Cooper Flagg).

The Bulls were rewarded with a home game at 6:30 p.m. CST Wednesday night at the United Center for the 9th versus 10th place contest against the Miami Heat. The winner will take on the loser of the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic game for the right to get smacked around by the Cleveland Cavaliers in first round of the playoffs.

Following Zach LaVine’s trade in February, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas wanted to see what the team’s current core could do to make a run for the playoffs. Chicago went on a hot streak in March and April, but injuries threaten their chances in the Play-In Tournament.

The Chicago Bulls are unsure of Josh Giddey’s status for Wednesday

Per Jula Poe of the Chicago Tribune, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan said the team is uncertain on the status of Josh Giddey against the Heat. He’s been dealing with tendenitis from his right forarm to his pinkie finger for his last six games, which has effected his three-point shooting.

The injury worsened last week.

“It’s a problem,” Donovan said. “He’s trying to manage it as best he can. I think that (medical staff) felt like, even for him, an extra day of rest would maybe help the healing process.”

Chicago has to hope they didn’t waste a shot at Flagg so Giddey could sit the bench on Wednesday.

Chicago rested White, Giddey, and Nikola Vucevic against the Cleveland Cavaliers last week for rest purposes. Their core has been effective against weaker competition but was blown out against the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this month.

Simply put, it’s hard for the front office to calculate if they should give Giddey and White $70 million per year, and it will be harder if Giddey cannot play this week. Not a great thing to be able to say after wasting a chance to tank in order to get out of a cycle of continual Play-In Tournament teams.

Lonzo Ball is set to miss the Play-In Tournament

Defense has been an issue for the Bulls all season. Chicago is expected to be without their key defender Lonzo Ball in the Play-In Tournament. The 27-year-old point guard last played on Feb. 28 against the Toronto Raptors as he deals with a wirst sprain.

The Bulls hope he can play in the playoffs if the team advances this week.

“If he can get through that week and we’re fortunate enough to play beyond the play-in, that would be the goal,” Donovan said. “Unless there’s something that happens significantly between now and Wednesday, my feeling is he probably would not be available (for Wednesday’s) game. I’m not ruling it out, but that’s kind of where we’re at right now.”

Tre Jones is out for the Play-In Tournament and isn’t expected to return in the playoffs due to a left midfoot sprain. The Bulls announced in March that Ayo Dosunmu is out for the season with a fractured shoulder.

Chicago Bulls: ESPN projects clear winner for Heat Play-In Tournament game

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are set to play the Miami Heat in the Play-In Tournament for the third year in a row. The Bulls have trauma to shake off before they host the Heat at the United Center for the chance to play the loser of Tuesday night’s matchup between the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic.

The Bulls had a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter of their Play-In Tournament matchup with the Heat in 2023 before Miami won the fourth quarter 35-23 to advance to the playoffs with a 102-91 victory at the Kaseya Center.

Again, the Bulls scored 91 points in their matchup in 2024 but didn’t come close to Miami’s 112, also played at the Kaseya Center. The Heat raced out to a 34-17 first-quarter lead. Tyler Herro’s 24 points helped lead a Miami roster missing Jimmy Butler to the playoffs again.

In 2025, the Bulls have the benefit of being at home. They also have been one of the NBA’s hottest teams since March.

The Chicago Bulls’ odds of beating the Heat, per ESPN’s analytics

Per ESPN BET, the Bulls are a 1.5-point favorite to beat the Heat on Wednesday night. ESPN analytics projected a clear winner for the 9th-vs. 10th place contest. Chicago has a 62.5% chance to advance to Friday night’s No. 8 seed game. The Heat have a 37.5% chance.

Those odds could shift depending on Josh Giddey’s availability, as he is battling a forearm injury.

Orlando is a 5.5-point favorite to knock off the Hawks at the Kia Center on Tuesday night. The Magic are projected with a 65.8% chance of beating Atlanta.

Chicago Bulls’ Josh Giddey makes sudden injury revelation before Play-In Tournament

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) in the second half against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Earlier in the week, the Chicago Bulls were unsure if Josh Giddey would be available to play the Miami Heat in Wednesday night’s Play-In Tournament matchup.

The No. 9 seed Bulls are set to play the No. 10 seed Heat at the United Center at 6:30 p.m. CST for the right to travel to play the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. The winner of that matchup will play the No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs as the No. 8 seed.

The Chicago Bulls didn’t commit to Wednesday night

Head coach Billy Donovan wouldn’t commit to playing Giddey Wednesday night. The guard has been dealing with a muscle injury in his hand during his last six outings. Per Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune, Giddey has shot just 30.4% from beyond the arc in those six contests.

“It’s a problem,” Donovan said. “He’s trying to manage it as best he can. I think that (medical staff) felt like, even for him, an extra day of rest would maybe help the healing process.”

The injury worsened in the last week.

Giddey’s last game came in the Bulls’ 119-111 win over the Heat on April 9. He recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists. He sat out Chicago’s final two games of the regular season against the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers.

Per K.C. Johnson of CHSN, Giddey revealed to reporters that he would play the Heat on Wednesday night.

“It’s just about managing the pain,” Giddey said of the hand injury.

He plans to play through the injury in the postseason before healing it in the offseason.

Giddey chose to make his status known suddenly on Tuesday before Donovan could address reporters on Wednesday. And before the medical staff could rule him out, like they did against the wishes of three Bulls players before their contests against the Cavs on April 8.

Giddey is averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game this season.

Matas Buzelis heaps praise on Billy Donovan ahead of play-in game

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls

If the Chicago Bulls are going to make it out of the play-in game and into the playoffs, and then potentially make some noise, Matas Buzelis will be a huge part of it. The rookie has made huge strides down the stretch of his first NBA season, and he thinks Billy Donovan is directly responsible for that.

Billy Donovan guided Matas Buzelis to this point

Matas Buzelis had to spend some time in the G-League early in the year. He wondered after not getting minutes in the NBA if he was even good enough to play. He eventually made it back and progressively got more playing time, and he’s lately made the most of it.

He credits Billy Donovan’s tough love for helping him get through that. The rookie said that his coach holds him accountable for every single play on the court. “I remember one play at Golden State, he took me out when (Andrew) Wiggins posted me up and scored,” Buzelis said via the Chicago Tribune. “It’s little stuff like that. He challenges me in practice, and I thank him for that. He’s been a huge part of my development and probably the best coach I’ve ever had.”

Donovan flipped the conversation on its head, saying that Buzelis has the talent and now has the understanding of what kind of work ethic he needs to succeed at the NBA level. “He’s starting to see that his talent level is what got him here, but his talent level is not enough to be the individual player he wants to be,” the Chicago Bulls coach said.

The coach noted that Buzelis has taken a “hard look at himself” in terms of rest, hydration, and nutrition. He also said that his protégé has gotten much more into watching film, reading scouting reports, and studying game plans. “And not having a younger-player mentality, because he’s so gifted, of (thinking), ‘All I have to do is just show up and it’s going to be OK,'” Donovan added.

Donovan is very proud of the growth his rookie has undergone this year. Buzelis thinks it’s Donovan’s guiding hand that has helped get him to that point. Now, with a do-or-die matchup on deck, it’s time to find out if that combination can get them to the postseason.

Josh Giddey regrets play-in trouncing by Miami Heat

NBA: Play In Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls Josh Giddey

Josh Giddey scored a team-high 25 points, but he needed 21 shots to do it in the Chicago Bulls’ season-ending loss to the Miami Heat. After going 15-6 to close the regular season, familiar demons appeared in the play-in tournament in a 109-90 loss.

Tyler Herro, someone who’s been a thorn in Chicago’s side in numerous play-in games, scored 38 and led the Heat to a convincing road win. That sent the Bulls back into the lottery and the Heat into another do-or-die game with the Atlanta Hawks. Giddey reflected after the loss.

Josh Giddey laments lack of response to Heat punches

The Chicago Bulls swept Miami 3-0 during the regular season, but the Heat got the last laugh. They pestered Josh Giddey, the only Bulls player to get to 20 points in the game, all night. They jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter and never really looked back.

“They punched us first, and we didn’t respond the way we had to,” Giddey said via ESPN after the game. “Credit to Miami. They’re well-coached; they’re a good team. They’ve been in this position before, as some of our guys here. We obviously knew what was at stake tonight. We just didn’t come out with the right mentality, the right mindset. And it’s what happens — you lose, your season’s over just like that.”

The Bulls seemed to have the momentum. They’d just beaten the Heat days prior and earned the home game this time instead of visiting Miami. They also were one of the NBA’s hottest teams down the stretch, and that included wins over some really good teams.

Regrettably, the Heat came together when it counted thanks to Tyler Herro’s exceptional performance. Erik Spoelstra, the Heat coach, knew coming in that they would be a challenge. His team responded by never trailing the Bulls.

“They had two games where we felt like we were in control of the game both times in the fourth quarter and they came storming back and had some impressive scoring quarters. Our guys really respected how much they could score. To hold that team to 90, it’s not an easy task,” Spoelstra admitted.

Now, the Bulls will turn their attention to the lottery. Depending on how the Heat and Mavericks do in their last play-in game, the Bulls can rise and get a slightly better chance at somehow landing the first overall pick.

Chicago Bulls big man makes an interesting statement in postseason presser

NBA: Play In Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls once again had their hopes of making the playoffs dashed, as they were eliminated from the playoff race during the play-in tournament for the third straight season. The Miami Heat beat them by a score of 109-90, as the Heat’s Tyler Herro went off in the game, scoring 38.0 points on 13-19 shooting in 37.0 minutes.

Fans of the Bulls are rightfully upset with the Bulls, as they finished with the same record as last season (39-43) and it feels like there is no sense of direction. Vice President of Basketball Operations Artūras Karnišovas, didn’t ease fans’ dismay with the team, as he thought the Bulls took “a step forward” from his perspective, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Bulls have some players worthy of sticking around, and one of their key pieces, Nikola Vucevic, has a lot to think about as he enters the final year of his deal with the Bulls. Vucevics’ future with the team is uncertain, and he gave some insights into what his thought process is, during his postseason press conference.

Vucevic’s future with the Chicago Bulls is uncertain

Vucevic is one of the better players the Bulls had this season and could’ve and should’ve brought them a decent trade package back during the trade deadline, but the Bulls never received one worthy of doing a deal. In his postseason press conference, the 34-year-old center said there are some positives on the Bulls, and he feels there are pieces for the Bulls to build around.

Vucevic also added that he is in a “win now” mode for his career and he wants to go on a deep playoff run but it will depend on what the Bull’s timeline is.

“Nikola Vucevic says he’s at the stage of his career where he wants to “win now” and make deep playoff runs.”

— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) April 17, 2025

These quotes by Vucevic will hopefully send a message to Karnišovas and the Reinsdorfs that it’s time to start investing in the team and bring back the glory of what the Bulls were in the ’90s.

Could Vucevic be on the move this offseason?

An interesting offseason lies ahead for Vucevic and the Bulls, as their position in the draft is uncertain, and who they’ll draft is an even bigger question. The Bull’s dream pick is Duke’s Cooper Flagg but with every team looking to draft him, a backup option needs to be in place.

The Bulls could be active during the draft and on the trade market, as Vucevic could be a hot commodity once again, given he’s entering the last year of his deal with the Bulls. The Bulls could look to leverage Vucevic’s relatively low $20 million salary and whatever spot they get in the draft to move up to better their chances of getting Flagg.

That will have to wait, as the play-in tournament continues, and NBA fans wait for the playoffs to begin. Hopefully, by next season, the Bulls will be in a better position to avoid the play-in tournament and get back to being a winning team.

Arturas Karnisovas reveals curious opinion on Josh Giddey, Coby White

NBA: Chicago Bulls Media Day

Arturas Karnisovas has the Chicago Bulls in a familiar spot. They’re 39-43 and just lost to the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament. That’s exactly what happened last year, although it was helped by a 15-6 stretch to get the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.

In the near future, Karnisovas has a few big decisions to make. He has to decide on the direction the team needs to go and what to do with Josh Giddey and Coby White. Both are playing well, but they will need extensions pretty soon.

Arturas Karnisovas hints at decisions on Josh Giddey and Coby White

After another season with a frustrating result and a seeming lack of direction, Arturas Karnisovas was asked whether he had a plan for the team as they seemed to continue running in place. Instead of getting better or worse, they appear to be stuck.

He pushed back on that via the Chicago Sun-Times, “Well, there is a plan. I think we’re always going to look at how to improve this roster by adding a player or high-caliber player.” But he also believes that White and Giddey can easily become the high-caliber star he says he’s looking for.

“At the same time, I would not put any limitations on this roster or on the way Coby [White] has been playing, the way Josh [Giddey] has been playing, so I think those players have a chance to play at a very high level. We’re constantly going to be looking for ways to improve from year to year,” he said.

White has consistently improved in his time in the NBA, but the Bulls will likely have to offer him the max, and he is not yet at that level. The Bulls guard is a good player, but is he so good that the Bulls have to keep him? Maybe not, but Karnisovas seems to think he is going to continue getting better and become a true superstar in the NBA.

Giddey, who was traded to the Bulls from the Oklahoma City Thunder, had a strong year for the Bulls and at times looked like their best player. He is also in a similar boat, as he’s not yet good enough to warrant a huge contract, one the Bulls might have to offer if they want to keep him. Again, Karnisovas seems to think he will also improve and become a borderline All-NBA duo with White.

That may not be the best plan, but it seems to be the plan that Karnisovas is working with right now. The executive doesn’t want to tear it down and instead wants to improve the roster, but that might just entail costly extensions for two young players.

Chicago Bulls players furious after coach gets fired: Report

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers with guard Josh Giddey (3) and teammates during the second half at United Center

The Chicago Bulls organization needs to make serious changes after losing in the Play-In Tournament three seasons in a row. The Bulls made a foolish and shortsighted choice to make a hard push to make the Play-In Tournament after trading Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings at the trade deadline in February.

The Bulls appeared to make significant progress in the backcourt with Josh Giddey and Coby White through March and in the early part of April. However, Chicago wasn’t competitive on Wednesday night when it mattered, and their season ended in a 109-90 loss to the Miami Heat in front of 21,380 fans at the United Center.

During his end-of-season press conference this week, executive vice president Arturas Karnisovas congratulated the team for taking a step forward this season, even though it ended the same way the Bulls saw their seasons end in 2023 and 2024. Karnisovas praised head coach Billy Donovan for his work with the team, but canned one member of the staff.

The Chicago Bulls fired a coach

NBA: Playoffs Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls

Per Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, players are upset that Karnisovas fired director of player development/shooting coach Peter Patton after the loss to Miami.

“The decision made the Bulls core group of players upset,” Cowley wrote. “One player wrote they were ‘beyond (expletive).'”

“Coach Pete was the real deal . . . [messed] up,” one player said.

Bulls players praised Patton throughout the season.

Patton has worked with the Bulls since 2023. He had stops as the shooting coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2016-2018 and the Dallas Mavericks from 2018-2023.

Per the report, it appears Karnisovas fired Patton because he didn’t like the opinions the coach offered. It follows a deeper pattern of problems going on with the staff.

“According to a source, Patton liked to shoot from the hip and speak his mind when asked,” Cowley wrote. “The feeling is that Karnisovas often asks for opinions, but “they have to fit his,” the source said. If someone’s ideas conflict with his own roster-building or player development, there’s a warning to mute it or there could be consequences.

“The source said it’s the reason why there has been such a confusing list of fired personnel in the last few years alone. The handling of assistant coach Mo Cheeks, also well-liked by the players, ended in bizarre fashion. Then there was assistant coach Chris Fleming, director of performance health Chip Schaefer, trainer Arnold Lee and, less than a few months ago, vice president of basketball strategy and analytics Steve Weinman.”

While the Bulls need to make changes in the organization, the problem with the fired personnel appears to be less with job production and more with not kissing Karnisovas’ butt.

Karnisovas’ butt hasn’t gotten the Bulls close to contending in the playoffs since he took over in 2020. His (and owner Jerry Reinsdorf’s) vision is the main problem.

Chicago Bulls’ Billy Donovan put Josh Giddey and Coby White on notice after loss to Heat

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan reacts during a timeout in the first quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena.

Things were different this year in the Chicago Bulls’ loss to the Miami Heat during Wednesday night’s Play-In Tournament. The Bulls scored 91 points in their first two defeats to Miami. Chicago scored just 90 to the Heat’s 109 on Wednesday night in front of 21,380 fans at the United Center.

In a game that mattered in the back half of April, the Bulls looked closer to the team that was thumped 145-117 by the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 31 than the team that went on a hot streak through most of March and April against fringe playoff teams, playoff teams operating with load management, or teams in the thick of trying to tank for Cooper Flagg.

Turnovers killed the Chicago Bulls’ chances

Following the season-ending loss to the Heat, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan spoke to reporters about what he saw from the bench. Donovan thought Chicago’s inability to control the basketball and turnovers cost them a chance to advance to play the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.

Josh Giddey led the Bulls with 25 points but had the second-most turnovers (3). Coby White finished with 17 points on 5-of-20 shooting and committed seven of the Bulls’ 17 turnovers.

A reporter asked Donovan if he felt Chicago was operating with a hand behind their back without an elite player on the roster.

Because of how the speed of the game has changed in recent years, Donovan thinks teams need an elite player or two instead of three, allowing for a roster to better be filled out at several positions rather than relying on a “big three.”

Billy Donovan: Josh Giddey and Coby White aren’t there yet

However, he realized the Bulls don’t have that elite player, and he’s not sure if Giddey, White, or Matas Buzelis will ever get there.

“Any great team, they have a guy that’s really, really elite,” Donovan said. “You know what I mean, and you can go, and a lot of times it’s in the backcourt, (Jalen) Brunson’s obviously great in New York (Knicks). Shai’s (Gilgeous-Alexander) been great in Oklahoma City (Thunder). (Van) Fleet’s really helped. You know, you can get (Steph) Curry. You can kind of go down the list.

“And I’m not saying needs to be a backcourt player, but, you know, I think Cobe made a really, really good jump. Wherever he gets to, I don’t know. Josh made a good jump as well, but to your point, the guys that you’re talking about, that is, and I’m sure those will be all things that the front office will take a look at as they go into the draft and into free agency and all those things…

“I think now you have to kind of build out a whole entire team. But clearly you need a really good player.”

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) April 17, 2025

While Donovan is encouraged by the progress White and Giddey have made this season, the Bulls have a large gap to close if they want to contend in even a weak Eastern Conference.

Donovan sent a clear message to the front office that they need to add an elite player outside the organization to compete for better things than Play-In Tournaments.

It’s impossible to justify giving White and Giddey $70 million for a backcourt that we saw implode on Wednesday night. While Giddey put up numbers in the points column, he let the Heat score at will, ending the Bulls’ season.

Chicago Bulls trade target identified for Coby White, Nikola Vucevic

NBA: Chicago Bulls at New Orleans Pelicans

The Chicago Bulls‘ 109-90 loss to the Miami Heat at the United Center on Wednesday should dispel any notion that the current core is worth extending and keeping around. The Bulls would be wise not to let Josh Giddey and Coby White keep the team hostage at $70 million per year because of a strong March.

When it mattered, the Bulls were blown out in their third-straight loss to the Heat in the Play-In Tournament. Chicago should have no confidence that their 145-117 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 31 was a fluke.

Would the Chicago Bulls make a big trade for Zion Williamson?

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times identified a player the Bulls should try and trade several pieces of the Bulls roster for this offseason. He thinks White, Nikola Vucevic, and Jevon Carter should be sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Zion Williamson.

At 24, Williamson was the No. 1 pick by the Pelicans in 2019. He’s earned two All-Star appearances and made the All-Rookie First Team.

Williamson averages 24.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game in his five-year NBA career.

One issue with Williamson, he can’t stay healthy on a team that has had no shot to make a playoff run with him on the roster. The six-foot-six, 284-pound power forward appeared and started in just 214 games in his NBA career. He’s only had two seasons where he’s played more than 60 games.

When healthy, he’s one of the most efficient players in the association.

The Bulls will likely start the season with a mini-big-three

Chicago Bulls

While Cowley thinks that “fantasy trade” would be in Chicago’s best interest, he believes the Bulls will try to trade Vucevic this summer but will probably be dealt next February.

“The Bulls once again will look to move Vucevic, making room for Zach Collins as the temporary starter or drafting a young rim protector,” Cowley wrote. “Vucevic does have an expiring deal, but, in all likelihood, he could be moved more easily at the February trade deadline.”

Cowley also thinks the team will extend White at $40 million per year, even though now is the time to trade him at a high price.

“White is the Bulls’ best player and maybe their best trade asset,” Cowley wrote. “Would they dare deal him? Unlikely. Expect them to kick the can down the road and make White a $40 million-a-year player after next season.”

The Bulls will likely start the season with a mini-three of White, Giddey, and Vucevic. Matas Buzelis will develop alongside that core.

While Chicago should keep pace for another Play-In Tournament appearance, they should have no confidence in being a threat to the top-tier teams in the Eastern Conference unless they can add true All-Star talent.

Known globally for their dominance during the 1990s and the legendary legacy of Michael Jordan, the Bulls are not just a team—they’re a brand. The Chicago Bulls are one of the most iconic teams in NBA history, known worldwide for their dominance during the 1990s. Founded in 1966, the team became a household name thanks to the legendary Michael Jordan, whose partnership with Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson led the Bulls to six NBA championships between 1991 and 1998. Their fast-paced style, fierce defense, and global appeal transformed the Bulls into a basketball dynasty and helped the NBA grow internationally. The United Center, dubbed “The House That Jordan Built,” became a symbol of the Bulls’ golden era and their place in sports history.

In the modern era, the Chicago Bulls have undergone multiple rebuilds as they attempt to regain their championship form. The post-Jordan years have seen flashes of hope—most notably with Derrick Rose, who won MVP in 2011—but injuries and inconsistency plagued sustained success. While not yet at the level of their 90s glory, the Bulls remain a respected name in the league, backed by a passionate fanbase and a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of players and fans.

TOP 5 most expensive players in Chicago Bulls history

Chicago Bulls

Over the decades, the Chicago Bulls have invested heavily in star power, signing huge contracts. These high-value deals reflect the team’s evolving strategies—from building championship contenders to reshaping the roster around rising stars. In today’s NBA, where salary caps rise and player value is constantly shifting, these expensive contracts tell the story of the Bulls’ priorities and ambitions in different eras. Below are the five most expensive players in the team’s history based on contract size and impact.

  • Carlos Boozer
  • Luol Deng
  • Michael Jordan
  • Derrick Rose
  • Zach LaVine

As the Bulls look toward the future, these investments serve as a blueprint—and a reminder—of the cost of ambition in professional basketball. Big contracts don’t guarantee titles, but they do signal a commitment to growth and a belief in building something greater. For a team still chasing its next golden era, understanding these deals is essential to understanding the team’s identity and its pursuit of another championship run.

5. Carlos Boozer

boozer

  • Money per game: $256,250
  • Highest Bulls salary: $15,300,000 in 2013-14 (No. 21 in the NBA that season)
  • Bulls stats: 15.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 49.1 FG% in four seasons

Carlos Boozer signed a five-year, $71,750,000 contract with the Chicago Bulls in 2010 as part of the team’s big free agency push that year. Although Boozer was not the primary target (the Bulls were pursuing LeBron James and Chris Bosh), he still brought offensive position and rebounding power to the rapidly growing team. Paired with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, Boozer helped the team become a consistent playoff contender in the early 2010s.

Though his defense was often criticized, Boozer contributed solid numbers and veteran stability. His contract, while hefty at the time, made sense given the salary cap and the team’s urgent need for frontcourt scoring. In hindsight, he may not have lived up to the full value of the deal, but he was a key part of one of the most competitive Chicago Bulls squads since the Jordan era, helping the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011.

4. Luol Deng

Luol Deng

  • Money per game: $114,583
  • Highest Bulls salary: $14,312,125 in 2013-14 (No. 28 in the NBA that season)
  • Bulls stats: 16.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 46 FG% in 10 seasons

Luol Deng spent the majority of his NBA prime with the Chicago Bulls, becoming one of the most dependable and hardworking players of his generation. Drafted 7th overall in 2004, Deng quickly proved himself as a versatile forward known for his defensive grit, mid-range scoring, and team-first mentality. Over his ten seasons with the Bulls, he played a crucial role during the team’s post-Jordan rebuilding era and was instrumental in the rise of the early 2010s Bulls led by Derrick Rose. His all-around contributions earned him two All-Star selections and a strong reputation as one of the league’s most respected professionals.

Financially, Deng earned nearly $73 million during his time in Chicago, making him one of the highest-paid players in franchise history. His contracts reflected his consistency and value to the organization, especially during years when the Bulls were legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference. Though never flashy, Deng’s impact went beyond the stat sheet—he brought leadership, stability, and a tireless work ethic that coaches and teammates relied on. His time in Chicago is remembered fondly by fans who appreciated his dedication to the Bulls’ success on both ends of the floor.

3. Michael Jordan

Chicago Bulls michael jordan

  • Money per game: $91,108
  • Highest Bulls salary: $33,140,000 in 1997-98 (No. 1 in the NBA that season)
  • Bulls stats: 31.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.4 apg, 50.5 FG% in 13 seasons

Michael Jordan is undeniably the most iconic figure in Chicago Bulls history—and arguably in the entire sport of basketball. Drafted by the Bulls in 1984, Jordan quickly rose to prominence with his unmatched athleticism, killer instinct, and clutch performances. Thanks to his play, the Bulls won six NBA championships during the 1990s. Known for his scoring titles, MVP awards, and unrelenting competitiveness, Jordan was more than just a star player—he became a cultural icon and a symbol of excellence in professional sports.

While player salaries in his era were significantly lower than today’s massive NBA contracts, Jordan’s impact was so profound that his market value transcended traditional earnings. In his final two seasons with the Bulls (1996–1998), he earned record-setting one-year deals—$30.1 million and $33.1 million respectively—making him the highest-paid player in the league at the time. Beyond the court, Jordan’s influence extended into endorsements, branding, and the global expansion of the NBA.

2. Derrick Rose

Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose

  • Money per game: $235,316
  • Highest Bulls salary: $20,093,064 in 2015-16 (No. 9 in the NBA that season)
  • Bulls stats: 19.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 6.2 apg, 44.8 FG% in seven seasons

Derrick Rose, the hometown hero and youngest MVP in NBA history, once held the most lucrative contract in Chicago Bulls history. In 2011, he signed a five-year, $95,538,276 extension under the NBA’s “Derrick Rose Rule,” which was designed to reward star players early in their careers. At the time, the deal was a no-brainer—Rose was the face of the team, and expectations were sky-high after his MVP campaign and deep playoff runs.

Unfortunately, his tenure was marred by devastating injuries that limited his ability to meet the full potential of the deal. Still, Rose remains one of the most beloved players in Chicago Bulls history. His contract reflected both his immense talent and the hopes of an entire city. Though his career took a different trajectory, his influence on the Bulls’ brand and identity endures to this day.

1. Zach LaVine

Chicago Bulls Zach LaVine

  • Money per game: $338,965
  • Highest Bulls salary: $37,096,500 in 2022-23 (No. 19 in the NBA that season)
  • Bulls stats: 24.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.4 apg, 47.2 FG% in six seasons

Zach LaVine tops the list as the most expensive player in Chicago Bulls history, thanks to the five-year, $118,298,717 max extension he signed in 2022. This deal was a major commitment by the Bulls, signaling their belief in LaVine. He became a two-time All-Star while consistently averaging over 20 points per game. His contract makes him not only the highest-paid Bull ever, but also one of the top earners in the NBA during the current era.

LaVine’s presence has helped the Chicago Bulls remain competitive during a transitional phase, and his impact on the court has kept fans hopeful for a deeper playoff run. Despite some criticism about the deal’s size, his contributions in scoring, perimeter shooting, and leadership are undeniable. For a team still chasing the dominance of its championship years, LaVine represents a modern star with the ability to light up any scoreboard and anchor the team both financially and athletically.

Conclusion

In the ever-changing world of NBA salary caps, player valuation, and championship aspirations, the Bulls’ most expensive players reflect the cost of ambition in professional sports. While not every contract led to a title, they each contributed to defining an era, captivating fans, and keeping the team competitive. As Chicago continues its pursuit of greatness, these deals offer insight into what it takes—financially and strategically—to build a contender in one of basketball’s most iconic cities.

Latest NBA mock draft has Bulls taking ‘plug-and-play’ prospect

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament Second Round Connecticut at Florida

The Chicago Bulls missed out on the playoffs, falling in their home play-in outing against the Miami Heat. Now, their attention must turn to the lottery after once again missing the postseason and finishing with a lackluster record. The lottery gives them a slim chance to move up inside the top 10, and right now, if it all went chalk, they’d pick 12th overall. Here’s who CBS Sports’ Cameron Salerno has going there in his latest prediction.

Latest mock draft gets Liam McNeeley in a Bulls uniform

NBA: Chicago Bulls Media Day

NBA: Chicago Bulls Media Day

12th is not an ideal spot for a team searching for a true star in the draft to help push their youth movement forward. The Bulls have to decide on Coby White and Josh Giddey’s future. Matas Buzelis might’ve been the steal of the draft in 2024, but they have to pair him with someone else good and young from this draft.

Cameron Salerno believes that it should be UConn freshman Liam McNeeley. McNeely averaged 14.5 points, six rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Huskies in his one year in college. He’s the 11th-ranked prospect, so the Bulls do get a slight boost from that, and the third-ranked forward.

“When McNeeley missed time due to injury midway through UConn’s season, the Huskies were a different team. McNeeley is a plug-and-play forward at the next level, thanks to his ability to thrive within the flow of an offense and his experience playing alongside other future lottery picks,” Salerno said. “In high school at Montverde Academy, McNeeley played with top prospects like Cooper Flagg, Asa Newell, Derik Queen, and current BYU guard Robert Wright III.”

At 6’7″, he’d be a solid addition to the roster alongside Buzelis. Buzelis is 6’10”, allowing him to play power forward with McNeeley taking the small forward spot. Salerno believes that McNeeley is a player designed to be used in a variety of ways at the NBA level and someone the Bulls can insert into their lineup sooner rather than later.

This does have the Bulls missing out on Jeremiah Fears, Khaman Maluach, and other lottery picks, but they chose, in Salerno’s mock, McNeeley over Asa Newell, Egor Demin, and Johni Broome.

Patrick Williams and the Bulls: A Story of Potential Unfulfilled

Chicago Bulls Patrick Williams

Patrick Williams got paid big this season after signing a five-year, $90 million deal with the Bulls. But the 23-year-old can’t even crack the starting lineup as Chicago stumbles into the tournament for the third straight year.

Contract and Performance Disconnect

The gap between Williams’ paycheck and his play has been impossible to ignore. While his contract keeps him in Chicago for the long haul, his production on the court tells a different story. Bulls fans watch in frustration as young players like Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu keep getting better while Patrick Williams seems stuck in place.

Basketball analysts noted throughout the season that Williams represents one of the more unpredictable factors when projecting Bulls games. His game-to-game inconsistency makes him difficult to evaluate, with performances ranging from impactful to nearly invisible.

This inconsistency also made it difficult for sports bettors to place wagers on Williams. The bonus offers, fast payouts, and free bets provided by new sportsbooks made up for this uncertainty.

Role Reduction for Patrick Williams

Williams lost his starting position to rookie Matas Buzelis, a change that sent him to a secondary rotation role. This shift limited both his minutes and overall influence on games. His three-point shooting percentages declined notably, and his defensive intensity waned from previous seasons.

The contrast between his good and bad nights tells the story. In a recent victory over Charlotte, Williams contributed meaningfully from the bench. Yet, against Dallas just days before, he missed all three shot attempts and committed three turnovers in limited playing time.

Psychological Aspects

Bulls coach Billy Donovan focuses extensively on the mental components of Patrick Williams’ game. Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 215 pounds, Williams possesses the athletic profile to succeed at the NBA level.

The organization dedicated substantial resources toward addressing these psychological barriers. Williams works regularly with Dr. Wendy Borlabi, the team’s performance and mental health director. Donovan also brought in specialist Dr. Kevin Elko specifically to work with Williams on his approach to the game.

Shot Selection Issues

A clear disconnect exists between coaching strategy and Williams’ offensive tendencies. Williams prefers midrange jump shots despite converting only 33% of these attempts during the season. Statistical analysis shows he performs better at the rim and from three-point range, where he shoots 34.3%.

Donovan consistently encourages Williams to drive toward the basket and leverage his physical advantages rather than settling for contested jumpers. Despite acknowledging this guidance, Williams repeatedly returns to familiar but less effective shooting patterns during games.

Persistent Optimism

Despite his basketball challenges, Patrick Williams maintains an unusually positive outlook. He avoids social media commentary about his play and speaks about his struggles as valuable learning experiences.

This steadfast positivity sometimes appears disconnected from his basketball reality. Some within the organization privately wonder if this perpetual optimism prevents Williams from fully addressing his on-court shortcomings.

Postseason Possibilities

As Chicago approaches another postseason as an underdog, Williams might play a more significant role than his regular-season minutes suggest. The Bulls lack depth, which increases the importance of productive bench contributions.

The slower pace typical of playoff basketball could challenge Chicago’s transition-oriented offense. Williams appears likely to attempt more of his preferred midrange shots during these grinding postseason contests, precisely the approach his coaches discourage.

The Bulls’ front office watches closely, knowing both team and player face four more seasons together under the current contract. Finding a path forward that maximizes Williams’s abilities while addressing his inconsistencies remains a top organizational priority heading into another uncertain offseason.

‘Tough pill’: Chicago Bulls’ Josh Giddey gets honest on OKC Thunder benching

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) in the second half against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Josh Giddey was the hero of the Chicago Bulls‘ 119-117 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. He made a critical steal of LeBron James in the final 10 seconds of the game before draining a half-court buzzer-beater.

Giddey had a humbling follow-up performance against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. He shot 25%, scoring just eight points. He added eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in Chicago’s 120-119 loss at the United Center.

Giddey is set to play his former team on Monday night at Paycom Center and should have plenty of motivation to play much better than he did against the Mavs. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Giddey with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 draft.

OKC benched Giddey during the final two games of their second-round series defeat to the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs last year. They traded him to the Bulls in the summer.

Per Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, Giddey talked about his benching. He called the benching a “tough pill” but said he understood why the Thunder made the decision.

“No player wants to be in the position where you’re the one that’s getting adjusted to in the playoffs,” Giddey said. “That was a tough pill for me to swallow, but it was probably what I needed at that point of my career. It’s better to learn that lesson as you get deeper into your career.

“Looking back in hindsight, it was probably the best thing for me. Most of the time you feel like, ‘Oh, you don’t want to go through that. But … they made the right decision in what they did, in terms of the playoffs, that whole series, and matchup-wise they did it for the right reasons. I don’t ever look back in anger or whatever towards OKC. I had nothing but great things to say about OKC.”

How Giddey has played this season with the Chicago Bulls

Giddey had a slow start with the Bulls at the beginning of the season. He’s averaging 14.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game for Chicago. He’s been on fire since the trade deadline. Now there’s talk that Giddey and Coby White could become a $70 million duo in Chicago.

Monday night’s contest against the Thunder will be Giddey’s second against his former team with the Bulls. Giddey went 6-of-14 shooting and 2-of-6 from behind the arc to score 14 points in Chicago’s 114-95 loss to the OKC at the United Center on Oct. 26. He added seven rounds and four assists.

Giddey feels no bitterness towards OKC or head coach Mark Daigneault for how things transpired in the playoffs.

“They did the right thing, and Mark is an incredible coach and made adjustments accordingly,” Giddey said. “We were down in that series so we needed to come back, so I don’t look back at it like they did the wrong thing or they messed me up or anything like that. They made the right decision and I tried to be the best teammate I could for the rest of that series and help them win.”

Giddey now has a chance to make a statement on Monday night against OKC, who has the best record in the league at 62-12. Before Chicago’s loss to the Mavs, the Bulls were the league’s hottest team. A win over the Thunder would show they close they are to being contenders and how far Giddey has come since the trade.

Chicago Bulls: LeBron James has 3-word message for Josh Giddey after buzzer beater

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) celebrates with teammates after making the game-winning three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers during the second half at United Center.

The night before playing the Chicago Bulls, LeBron James hit a buzzer-beater to give the Los Angeles Lakers a 120-119 win over the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

On Thursday night, he defended and then watched as Josh Giddey’s half-court shot went in to give the Bulls a 119-117 win over the Lakers in front of 21,957 at the United Center.

James made a huge contribution to the Bulls’ miraculous comeback win.

Following Patrick Williams’ three-point shot to bring the Bulls within two points with 9.8 seconds to play, James lazily threw an inbounds pass, which was stolen by Giddey.

Giddey then found a wide-open Coby White, the back-to-back Eastern Conference Player of the Week winner, who drilled a three-point bucket to put the Bulls up 116-115.

Austin Reaves made a layup to give the Lakers a 117-116 lead with 3.1 seconds remaining.

3.1 seconds was enough time for Giddey to bring the ball up to half-court and hit a game-winning shot.

LeBron James tips his hat to Giddey

When speaking to reporters after the game, James took responsibility for his “horrible” play in the contest’s final minutes. He praised Giddey for making the buzzer beater.

“I mean, we put ourselves in position to win,” James said of what transpired in the final minute. “Gave up a lot of threes in the fourth quarter. We still put ourselves in position to win. Horrible turnover by myself, bad miscommunication the play before that, and AR (Reaves) still had a big bucket and tried to save us and then tip your hat if someone makes a game-winner.

The Bulls swept the series against the Lakers this season, winning their first matchup 146-115 on Saturday at crypto.com Arena during a night that was filled with heroics from rookie Matas Buzelis. Chicago has swept the Lakers and Nuggets this season, two of the top four teams in the Western Conference.

Chicago has won four games in a row and are 1.5 games behind the Orlando Magic for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference.

How Chicago Sports Fans Are Engaging with Online Betting Platforms in 2025

Chicago Sports

Okay, let’s talk about it. Online sports betting, right? It’s absolutely exploded, especially here in Chicago. You see everyone glued to their phones, not just following the game, but, well, in the game. Legalization helped, yeah, but it’s the apps themselves, how easy they are. Remember those days of having to find a bookie, or heading across state lines? Feels like a lifetime ago. But now? 2025? It’s a whole different ballgame, pun intended.

For those looking to diversify their engagement with online platforms beyond sports betting, and seeking the latest insights into digital wallets and secure transactions, you can find more info here. This shift mirrors the increasing integration of technology into various aspects of our lives, mirroring trends in the sports betting world.

This is a deep dive into how Chicago sports fans are diving into online betting in 2025. We’re going to get into the evolution, the platforms, the fan experience, the tech, and, yeah, the risks. Because it’s not all sunshine and roses, is it? We’ll see how things are shaping up for the future, too. Buckle up, Chi-Town, it’s going to be a ride.

The Evolution of Online Sports Betting in Chicago

Rewind a bit. Illinois legalized sports betting way back in 2019. But it wasn’t a simple path to where we are now. Remember those registration rules? Having to go to Rivers Casino in Des Plaines just to sign up for an app? Absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully, they got rid of that garbage in 2022.

Fast forward to now, the number of Chicago-based users making their bets online? It’s just insane. We’re talking millions, easily. Which makes sense, right? We’re a city that bleeds sports. Bears, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, Blackhawks, Sky? We got it all, and we’re all in. Chicago’s sports betting scene is huge, generating over a billion dollars every year, easy. That puts us right up there with New York and New Jersey as the major players. Pretty good company.

Across the country, you see similar trends. State after state cashing in on the craze. It’s no longer a novelty; it’s mainstream.

Popular Online Betting Platforms in Chicago

Ready to jump in? Where do you start? You’ve got your giants, ones you’ve heard of: FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM. They’re all over Chicago, everyone knows the names. But there are local players, like BetRivers. They know the city, they understand the culture, and they often have promotions geared towards Chicago teams.

The real hook? It’s not just the fancy interfaces. It’s the enhanced odds on Chicago teams. “Bears to win by 10? Crazy odds!” Or live in-game betting, you’re watching the Bulls and betting on every possession. Seriously addictive.

A lot of teams have deals too. Wrigley Field is tight with DraftKings. The United Center? FanDuel’s got their name on that. You can bet in the stadiums and arenas. It can feel seamless. Deposits? Withdrawals? Easy, all done through your phone. You link up your bank account and you’re good. User experience is key these days. The faster the app, the better the odds.

How Chicago Fans Are Integrating Betting into Their Sporting Experience

How’s this changed things? It’s changed everything. It’s reflected in how people talk about games. It’s not just “did they win?” It’s “did they cover?” Betting adds suspense. It’s not enough for the Bulls to win, they have to win big, because you’ve got money on it.

In-game wagering, live betting? Massive. You’re watching the Blackhawks, and you’re placing bets on who scores next. You find yourself screaming at the TV like never before. I’ve been there.

Social betting? Another level. You have betting groups, forums, where everyone shares their picks. Friendly competitions, bragging about wins and, uh, conveniently forgetting losses. It’s a shared experience, amplifying the highs and cushioning the lows (slightly).

There’s a bar on Clark Street, let’s say it’s The Stretch. Screens everywhere showing the game, but also live betting odds. People are yelling, high-fiving, losing it. You scan a QR code, place your bet, and they have drink specials tied to in-game events. It’s crazy, but it adds to the experience. These bars get it.

The Role of Technology in Enhancing the Sports Betting Experience

Tech isn’t just about the apps, it’s what’s behind them. AI, machine learning, predictive analytics? Driving betting strategies. People use algorithms to find the best bets, and they’re getting better. Data analysis is now a crucial part of any serious bettor’s arsenal. The more information, the better the odds, or so they believe.

Mobile apps and real-time stats aren’t just for show, they help you make decisions. Or at least, they make you think you’re making informed decisions. Knowledge is power, or the illusion of knowledge is.

And crazy stuff is coming: augmented reality, virtual reality? Watching the Bears in VR, seeing all the betting odds in front of you. That’s where it’s going. Picture this: You’re virtually sitting in the stands at Soldier Field, with real-time stats and betting options overlaid on the field. The future is immersive, interactive, and potentially, very profitable (or not!).

Then there’s cryptocurrency, blockchain, for secure transactions. Some find it confusing, but it moves money around without the banks getting involved. Secure and anonymous, adding another layer of complexity and intrigue to the betting landscape.

The Risks and Responsible Betting Initiatives

Gambling addiction is real. Financial risk is real. Know when to stop. Chicago has responsible gambling programs. The platforms have tools, betting limits, self-exclusion options. Set a budget, and stick to it. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but responsible gaming is paramount. Resources are available for those who need them.

Legislation is trying to keep up, to protect people. It’s not easy, but they’re trying. There’s a line between enjoying the thrill and getting into problem territory. Constant vigilance and awareness are key to maintaining a healthy relationship with sports betting.

Future Trends: What’s Next for Online Sports Betting in Chicago?

Where does this go? Industry growth? Bigger. Illinois, Chicago, it’s just the beginning. Legislative changes? Tweaks, rules, taxes. The regulatory landscape is constantly evolving, shaping the future of the industry.

Betting options? Explosion. Esports betting will be huge, and micro-betting, betting on every single play, that’s gonna be bigger than ever. More partnerships with Chicago teams? More ways to get you to bet.

AI, automation, will shape the experience. An AI assistant gives you betting tips, or an app that automatically bets for you based on your preferences. Weird, but convenient. The lines between human intuition and algorithmic precision will continue to blur.

Conclusion

Online sports betting in Chicago is a phenomenon. It’s tech, engagement, and innovation, changing how we experience sports. Don’t get lost in the tech, don’t be irresponsible, know your limits.

Chicago sports fans are embracing this, adapting, and shaping it. They’ll evolve with the industry, and I’ll be watching, probably with a bet or two on the line.`

Chicago Bulls: 3 players have historic nights in 129-119 win over Nuggets

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) points with Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis (14) against the Los Angeles Lakers during the second half at Crypto.com Arena.

Before the Chicago Bulls game on Monday night, Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone argued the Bulls are “the best team running” in the NBA. Chicago lived up to Malone’s premise, knocking off the Nuggets (who were without Nikola Jokic) 129-119 in front of 19,816 fans at Ball Arena.

The Bulls completed a sweep of Denver for the season, as they recorded a 129-121 victory on Jan. 27 in a game Jokic scored 33 points. The Bulls have been on a hot streak lately. Monday night’s win was the team’s third in a row and the eighth win in 10 outings.

Coby White has been a key to the Bulls’ recent success. He earned back-to-back Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, putting him in company with Michael Jordan as the only Chicago player to accomplish that feat.

White and two other players on the court Monday had historic nights.

Per the NBA, White joined former Bulls star Zach LaVine as the only player in Bulls’ history to average more than 30 points a game and three or more three-point shots made over a 10 game span.

White also joined LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Michael Jordan, and Bob Love as the only Bulls players to score 35 or more points in three consecutive games.
