Chicago Bulls: Excitement mounts amid Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade admission

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) drives past Chicago Bulls forward E.J. Liddell (32) in the third quarter at Fiserv Forum.

The Chicago Bulls are expected to be one of the many teams that will be on the phone this summer trying to land a big. Zion Williamson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Vucevic could be trade targets in the offseason.

The Bulls were one of a few teams on Giannis’ list of places he would like to play for at some point during his time in the NBA.

Giannis could be headed to one of those teams in the near future.

Per Shams Charania of ESPN, Giannis is making it known for the first time that he’s “open minded” to being traded from the Milwaukee Bucks.

“The two-time NBA MVP has not made any firm decisions on his Bucks future after the franchise’s third consecutive postseason exit in the first round, but for the first time in his career, Antetokounmpo is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN,” Charania wrote.

“Today is the day that changes the Bulls future. They will beat the odds and land the ticket to Cooper Flagg and send him and others to the north for Giannis,” posted another.

“Chicago my boy @Giannis_An34,” suggested a fan.

“Giannis to the Bulls please,” hoped another.

“Here we go again Giannis to Bulls is on,” believes a fan.

“I know they’ve never really landed a big free agent or a big trade but if the Bulls can get Giannis that would be spectacular,” posted another.

Bulls add ‘major offensive talent’ and double up on big men in latest ESPN mock draft

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament West Regional Maryland at Florida Bulls Derik Queen

The Chicago Bulls didn’t get any lottery luck earlier this month, which means they will stay picking 12th overall. That may not be an enviable spot for teams aiming to improve in the NBA, but it is a pretty solid position to be in with a deep draft class coming in.

The Bulls have two picks to work with in 2025, one in the first and another in the second round. ESPN’s latest mock draft fills those two picks with exciting big men who could become key pieces to Chicago’s growing young core.

Bulls mock draft: ESPN gives Chicago two promising bigs

NCAA Basketball: Final Four National Semifinal Florida at Auburn

NCAA Basketball: Final Four National Semifinal Florida at Auburn

Even before the lottery was complete, most mock drafts had the Bulls picking Derik Queen, the center from Maryland, 12th overall. That hasn’t changed in the days since, as several mocks have already predicted Queen to be the next Bull.

Following the combine, Queen’s strengths and weaknesses are clearer. He measured at 6’10”, which means he didn’t lose height like some other lottery prospects. ESPN’s Jeremy Woo said, “Chicago is in position to draft the best available talent but is in greater need of frontcourt help, which will make Queen an interesting option if he slips to No. 12.”

Woo admitted that the athletic testing at the combine wasn’t kind to Queen, and the Maryland center didn’t shoot well enough in drills, but that those are places the Bulls, or another team, will see areas for growth rather than major detractions.

“He’s a major offensive talent whose skill set separates him from the other bigs in this class — ultimately, his film should speak louder than the combine data — and whichever team selects him will believe it can get the most out of him. His proponents around the league see an intelligent player whose potential is high,” Woo argued.

Then, in the second round, the Bulls continued to address the frontcourt. They appear to, at least in ESPN’s eyes, be aiming to set themselves up to move on from Nikola Vucevic. With the 45th pick, Auburn center Johni Broome was mocked to Chicago.

He and Derik Queen would give the Bulls two shots at landing a franchise center. Broome was a star on a Final Four team, and he possesses the skills and experience to be a sleeper second-round pick. Either way, Chicago’s pressing need for big men was addressed and then some in this mock.

Chicago Bulls’ 20-year-old wing named to All-Rookie Second Team

Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis (14) shoots against Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes (11) and guard Austin Reaves (15) during the first half at Crypto.com Arena.

The Chicago Bulls had plenty of positive takeaways from this past season despite it ending in a rather sour way in the play-in tournament. They finished with a 39-43 record and lost in their lone game in the play-in tournament at home against the Miami Heat in blowout fashion. The front office have moved off key veterans in the past 12 months like Alex Caruso, Zach LaVine and Demar Derozan, hoping to find some sort of direction.

The results in the standings show that not much has changed with the franchise, but a few younger pieces on the roster off upside for years to come. Their top pick in last summer’s draft was recognized for his play among his peers on Tuesday after playing a much larger role than fans thought he was going to this past season.

Chicago Bulls’ wing Matas Buzelis makes All-Rookie Second Team

Buzelis was officially selected to the All-Rookie Second Team on Tuesday after being the 11th overall pick of the franchise in last summer’s draft. The local product averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in his first NBA season on 45.4% shooting from the field. Buzelis shot 36.1% from beyond the arc and started in 31 of the 80 games that he played in for Chicago.

Buzelis should have an increased role with the Bulls this upcoming season. He rose the occasion when called upon most of the time as a rookie against some of the league’s best players, and his upside is still tremendous. Buzelis will be involved with the team’s future plans along with Coby White and Josh Giddey, who will be in contract negotiations with the front office this summer.

NBA Star Josh Giddey Stuns Local Players With Surprise Appearance at Melbourne Court

Josh Giddey

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey shocked local basketball players by unexpectedly joining a regular Monday night game at Frankston Basketball Stadium in Melbourne. The 22-year-old Australian NBA talent joined the Springvale Waves shortly after the Bulls were eliminated from the NBA Play-in tournament.

The news of Giddey’s appearance spread quickly throughout the stadium. Basketball fans watching the action had the same energy that many sports fans do when watching professional games. Sports fans frequently check BetIdeas for today’s best bets, where data-driven picks assist fans in making informed decisions about their favorite teams and players.

From Court No. 5 to Social Media Sensation for Josh Giddey

The mood at Court No. 5 changed drastically when Giddey took the floor. Josh Giddey’s videos of dominating the local defense with NBA-caliber passes and game-winning jumpers went viral on social media. Fans got a firsthand look at the skills that propelled the Melbourne native from Australian courts to basketball’s highest level.

Despite Giddey’s contributions, the Springvale Waves fell to Bennys Boys 110-84. But the score didn’t matter to the fans who saw an NBA player compete in a local league game.

Springvale coach Ann Monaghan explained that Giddey had contacted the team earlier that day with a simple request: play alongside a close friend. “It was standing room only on the court,” Monaghan said, as players and referees from nearby courts paused their games to watch the NBA talent in action. What started as a typical Monday night game quickly became the talk of the town.

Risk vs. Reward

Giddey’s decision to play in a local game raised some eyebrows, especially with reports of a potential contract extension with the Bulls on the way. Most NBA players avoid unstructured competitions during their offseason to reduce the risk of injury.

Monaghan acknowledged that the participants were aware of the situation and that the game was played with reasonable caution. Giddey’s humble demeanor throughout the evening won over local players and supporters, demonstrating his genuine enthusiasm for basketball at all levels.

Melbourne Roots to NBA Success

Josh Giddey was born and raised in Melbourne and followed an unusual path to the NBA. He played professionally for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s National Basketball League before being selected 6th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021.

During his Thunder days, Giddey broke records as the youngest NBA player to notch a triple-double at just 19. After growing his game in Oklahoma City, he moved to the Chicago Bulls in 2024, where he runs the point with his unique style. His basketball IQ and court vision made him a fan favorite in both NBA cities.

Seeing Giddey back on a Melbourne court brought his basketball journey full circle. The locals couldn’t believe their luck when an actual NBA player showed up for their regular weeknight game. Many players took mental notes watching how a pro approaches even a casual game situation.

Giddey’s decision to play for Frankston shows that, despite his NBA success, he remembers his roots. The local players who were on the court with him that night have stories to tell for years.

The surprise visit was about more than just basketball. It gave the Australian basketball community a unique chance to connect local leagues and the NBA, even if it was just for one Monday night match. The young players in attendance left with renewed motivation to take their own games to the next level.

4 Players The Chicago Bulls Should Sign to Make the Next NBA Playoffs

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls missed the playoffs again. They went 39-43 this season and finished 10th in the East, losing in the play-in to the Miami Heat. The team has talents, with Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and Josh Giddey already on its books, but they need more firepower to compete next year. Here are four free agents that could help the Bulls reach the playoffs in 2026.

1. James Harden (PG/SG, LA Clippers)

Hear us out now. He’s late in his career, but James Harden can still score and set up teammates at a high level. This past season, The Beard put up 22.8 points, 8.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He also shot 41% overall and 35.2% from three.

The Bulls struggled in half-court offense this year. Having Harden would fix that right away. His playoff experience would help a team that hasn’t won a playoff series since 2015. Harden has made 10 All-Star teams, won an MVP award, and scored over 25,000 points in his career.

In Magic Johnson’s words, “Ask not what your teammates can do for you. Ask what you can do for your teammates.”

Harden’s passing fits this mindset perfectly.

2. Julius Randle (PF, Minnesota Timberwolves)

Julius Randle finished strong with the Timberwolves this season. He averaged 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 48.5% and hitting 34.4% of his threes.

The Bulls need toughness, scoring, and rebounding. Randle brings all three to the table. He and Vucevic would make a strong frontcourt duo. Randle can handle the ball too, which would take pressure off LaVine and Giddey.

Randle has made two All-Star teams and won Most Improved Player in 2021.

3. Cameron Payne (PG, New York Knicks)

Cameron Payne would shore up the Bulls’ bench. He averaged 6.9 points and 2.8 assists in just 16 minutes per game this year. He also shot 36.3% from three. Back in 2021, Payne helped the Suns reach the NBA Finals as a key bench player.

Payne brings quickness and energy on defense. He can run the offense when starters rest. His playoff experience with Phoenix and New York makes him reliable in big moments.

Bulls legend Scottie Pippen once said, “Sometimes a player’s greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team.”

Payne knows his role and thrives in it.

4. Gui Santos (PF, Golden State Warriors)

Bulls

Gui Santos could add youth and shooting to the Bulls’ forward group. The Brazilian Power Forward scored 4.1 points with 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in limited minutes. He shot 45.8% overall and 33% from three.

Santos can stretch the floor and guard different positions. He’s not a star, but his upside could pay off as the Bulls try to get younger and more athletic. Santos played well in the G-League and has shown flashes with the Golden State Warriors so far.

Why These Moves Matter

The Bulls’ season exposed clear problems: not enough depth, spotty shooting, and weak playmaking.

The team’s executive vice president of basketball operations, Arturas Karnisovas knows these issues. He had this to say after their play-in loss to the Miami Heat: “I’m thinking about winning. That’s why I’m here. I’m not here to stay in the middle. The formula that came up three years ago, I thought it was working until a couple injuries. And we’re gonna have to find these answers in this offseason. Obviously, the results are not where we want it. I totally get it. And it’s on me to figure it out.”

If Harden and Randle come in, they’d add star power and more scoring options. Meanwhile, Payne and Santos would strengthen the bench with their reliable energy.

Betting on the Bulls in Europe

The Bulls have fans scattered over the globe due to their rich history. Many of these fans are in Europe and a significant number of them also want to bet on the team’s matches. This could be a nice way to make some extra funds, especially if the team gets in some signings over the line and performs better next season.

If you want to bet on the Bulls next year as an European bettor, you should go through review sites to find online bookmakers licensed in the European Union. According to betting expert Kate Richardson, using these bookmakers ensure you are playing legally. In addition, they offer fair odds and a safe way to bet on NBA futures.

Notably, sportsbooks likely won’t give the Bulls great odds to make the playoffs right now. But landing Harden or Randle would flip the script.

The odds would tighten up fast if Chicago makes a splash in free agency. That’s just how the betting markets react when teams add stars. Bringing in an All-Star usually increases a team’s chances of winning. Think LeBron James to the Miami Heat in 2010. Teams that land a big name tend to jump up in the standings and look way better come playoff time.

The Bottom Line

The Bulls have good pieces but need to make big moves in free agency. By getting James Harden, Julius Randle, Cameron Payne, and Gui Santos, they can fix their biggest problems: scoring, playmaking, depth, and youth.

With smart moves, Chicago can jump from a predictable play-in team to playoff contender.

As Tim Duncan once said, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.”

It’s been a disappointing few years recently, but the Bulls can still reach their best days.

Rising UNC prospect linked to Bulls in 2025 lottery

NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament Semifinal Duke vs North Carolina Bulls

The Chicago Bulls will have their choice of a handful of mid-lottery prospects to choose from when they get on the clock in late June. Derik Queen has been linked to Chicago time and again, and Collin Murray-Boyles and Khaman Maluach could also be in play at pick 12. What about a quickly rising prospect that was once considered a fringe first-round player?

UNC star Drake Powell linked to Bulls

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament First Round North Carolina at Mississippi

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament First Round North Carolina at Mississippi

By most big boards, Drake Powell is a late first, early second-round prospect. He’s 38th on Tankathon’s Big Board. He’s 32nd on ESPN’s. He’s 35th on Yahoo! Sports‘. He’s 21st on The Ringer’s board. CBS ranks him the 24th best prospect. There’s a wide array of potential outcomes for him come draft time.

But a great combine has him skyrocketing up some teams’ big boards. Possibly including the Bulls. K.C. Johnson said if the Bulls do forego a center for a guard, it’ll be a big guard who can play multiple positions. “One guy whose name is rising a little bit is Drake Powell,” Johnson said. “The toolsy prospect out of North Carolina.” Powell had one year at UNC before electing to enter the NBA Draft. He remained in after last night’s deadline.

The analyst cited Powell’s exceptional athletic testing at the NBA Combine. He also noted that the player interviewed very well at the combine with several teams. Johnson admitted, “He’s projected in some mock drafts in the second round. I’m not sure he can rise all the way up to 12, but I’m told that he was very, very impressive.”

Johnson also noted that Powell has some interesting ties to the Bulls. He would not be the first UNC guard drafted out of North Carolina in recent memory, as Coby White was a one-time Tar Heel like Powell. The White family and Powell family evidently know each other, so there’s a strong connection in the potential backcourt for the Bulls.

Johnson finished, “It’s early, we’ll see where this goes, but I know that the Bulls were, from what I’m told, impressed with his first workout” with the team.

Chicago Bulls have 2 players for the Mavs amid trade report

Chicago Bulls guard Tre Jones (30) passes the ball to center Nikola Vucevic (9) during the second half against the Detroit Pistons at the United Center.

On Monday, Marc Stein shared an exciting rumor for Chicago Bulls fans during an otherwise quiet time for the fan base during the NBA conference championships. Stein suggested that the Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading with the Bulls for Lonzo Ball.

“League sources say Dallas is expected to at least explore whether there are any feasible trade pathways to Boston’s Jrue Holiday,” Stein wrote. “Complicated as that would likely be given the three years and $104 million still left on Holiday’s contract, (Dallas is) also maintaining an interest in a far more reasonable trade target as we’ve discussed on the DLLS Mavs podcast: Lonzo Ball.”

The Chicago Bulls have another player for the Dallas Mavericks

During an appearance on 670 The Score’s “Mully & Hugh Show” on Thursday, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times gave his take on Stein’s report.

Cowley thinks the Bulls, who signed Ball to a two-year, $20 million extension last season, will hold on to the veteran point guard. But he does think another point guard on Chicago would be a good fit for the Mavs.

“(Ball’s) trade value is high because he’s a great locker room guy, and he’s essentially (on an) expiring deal with the team option for the second year and it’s a very manageable contract,” Cowley said. “I think it was reported really the day that that happened that this is a very movable piece. I don’t think that will happen before the season, but I could be wrong.

“Another name to keep in mind with Dallas, who needs a stop-gap point guard with Kyrie (Irving) out (Achilles), is Tre Jones, who’s going to be an unrestricted free agent and also has Bulls ties. So we’ll see where it goes. But gotta love the offseason rumors.”

Tre Jones or Lonzo Ball might not be with the Bulls next season

The Bulls received Jones, Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, and what became the No. 12 pick in the 2025 draft in a three-way trade that sent Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings.

Jones averaged 11.5 points, 4.9 assists, rebounds 3.2 rebounds per game for the Bulls in 18 appearances.

One reason Cowley thinks the Bulls might keep Ball is because they had a chance to trade him in the recent past and didn’t because of money.

“I mean, they had an opportunity to get some draft capital for (Ball) at the deadline,” Cowley said. “It would have potentially needed to add a contract like a Marcus Smart. They chose not to. Try Jones’ emergence maybe makes them re-question that. I don’t know. We’ll see where it goes.”

The Bulls might have to decide between Ball and Jones on a roster that is heavy at point guard.

Chicago Bulls rumored trade target accused of rape: Report

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson (1) drives to the basket past Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid (11) in the second half at Target Center.

With Nikola Vucevic expected to be dealt by next season’s trade deadline, the Chicago Bulls front office is expected to be busy making phone calls for star centers.

Zion Williamson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic are among the top names mentioned by league insiders as options in the big category for Chicago.

Giannis and Vucevic are unlikely. Williamson isn’t likely, but he appears more attainable than two aging veterans looking to join teams making championship runs. One piece of news surfaced on Friday that will be important to watch regarding allegations against Williamson.

Per Michael C. Wright of ESPN, Williamson has been accused of rape and physical abuse by a person who had been in a multiyear relationship with the star basketball player.

Via ESPN:

“A woman has accused New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson of rape in addition to “sexual, physical, emotional and financial” abuse over the span of a multiyear relationship, according to a lawsuit submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.

“The woman, who is identified as Jane Doe, accuses Williamson of a “continuing pattern of abusive, controlling and threatening behavior” over the course of a relationship that started during Williamson’s freshman year at Duke and lasted from 2018 to 2023.”

Zion Williamson’s attorneys released a statement

Per ESPN, Williamson’s attorneys at Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver, L.L.C. released a statement denying the allegations.

“We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and we unequivocally deny them,” Williamson’s attorneys wrote. “The allegations contained in the complaint are categorically false and reckless. … This appears to be an attempt to exploit a professional athlete driven by a financial motive rather than any legitimate grievance.”

The attorneys welcome the chance to prove their case in court. This case could take substantial time and muddy up trade talks during the summer.

Bulls given 3 targets for dream offseason

NBA: Charlotte Hornets at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have an important offseason ahead. They have some tough decisions to make on Josh Giddey and Coby White, but they also have to figure out if the core, which includes Matas Buzelis and whoever gets picked 12th overall this season, is worth building or tearing down.

Whether or not they decide to do that, there are some smart, good investments that the Bulls can make this offseason to at least give themselves more to build with. Unsurprisingly, they’re all big men, since that’s one of the most glaring holes on the roster.

NBA analyst says Bulls have three dream targets

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Dallas Mavericks

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Dallas Mavericks

Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams, and Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford were Bleacher Report analyst Greg Swartz’s three dream acquisitions for the Bulls this offseason.

Swartz argued, “The Chicago Bulls have core pieces in place at both guard spots and at least one forward position in Josh Giddey, Coby White and Matas Buzelis, yet will see 34-year-old Nikola Vučević enter the final year of his contract.”

He said Chicago needs to look into a trade for their next franchise center, particularly one that can help the 19th-ranked defense by defensive rating last year. That’s where Allen, a “terrific defender” who is also very likely to leave Cleveland by way of trade, comes in.

“Williams, 23, averaged 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in his third season,” Swartz said, “and Gafford should be available following the Mavs’ trade for Anthony Davis.” Gafford and Allen are the superior defenders here, but Williams is a gifted offensive player.

He’s also the most likely player to be traded and perhaps the easiest to acquire. The Hornets already traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers before LA backed out over perceived injury concerns.

Williams played the day of the trade and did not miss time with injury other than rest after the deal was rescinded, but it is something Chicago would have to be willing to risk. The Hornets are expected to shop him again, and he’d be an excellent offensive piece alongside what the Bulls are currently working with.

Inside Michael Jordan’s Obsession with Poker

Chicago Bulls michael jordan

He soared through the air, defied gravity, and redefined greatness.

Michael Jordan wasn’t just the face of the NBA in the 1990s — he was the NBA. With six championship rings, five MVPs, and an unrelenting will to win, Jordan’s legacy with the Chicago Bulls remains the gold standard in professional sports. Add to that his brief but notable stint in Major League Baseball with the Birmingham Barons, and one thing becomes clear: Michael Jordan is hardwired for competition.

What made him successful in both basketball and baseball? A lethal cocktail of obsession, strategy, endurance, and psychological warfare — traits that just so happen to mirror the core demands of another battlefield: the poker table.

In private rooms, smoky back corners of casinos, and star-studded charity events, Jordan found a new arena to dominate — one where the cards are hidden, but the stakes are just as real.

How a Basketball God Found Poker

Michael Jordan’s love of gambling is hardly a secret. From golf wagers with teammates to high-stakes blackjack sessions in Atlantic City, Jordan’s competitive fire has never been limited to the court. But among his many off-court obsessions, poker stood out as his true cerebral fix.

He was first introduced to poker during his early NBA days, reportedly through games with teammates like Scottie Pippen and Ron Harper. These weren’t just harmless bonding rituals — they were fiercely competitive affairs. Jordan didn’t just want to win; he wanted to dominate, studying tells, exploiting patterns, and using his infamous trash talk to unsettle opponents, reports Forbes.

Poker, like basketball, offered him something critical: the ability to control outcomes through preparation, instinct, and psychological pressure.

The Traits That Translated to the Felt

Michael Jordan didn’t bring raw talent to poker — he brought the habits of a killer competitor.

  • Obsessive Preparation: Just as he watched hours of game tape before facing the Knicks or Pistons, Jordan took poker seriously. He studied the game, leaned on experienced mentors, and became known for remembering even minor hands weeks later.
  • Mental Fortitude: Poker isn’t about the best hand — it’s about the best mind. Jordan’s legendary ability to stay calm under pressure (think: “The Shot” against Cleveland or Game 6 in Utah) translated perfectly to the slow-burn tension of a poker hand.
  • Trash Talk & Psychological Manipulation: Jordan wasn’t just a master tactician — he was a mental assassin. At the poker table, he used banter, aggression, and reputation to pressure others into folding. Many players report feeling they were “already beat” just by sitting at the same table.

Mentors, Friends, and Card Sharks

Syndication: The Knoxville News Sentinel

Syndication: The Knoxville News Sentinel

One of Jordan’s closest companions in the poker world was Charles Barkley, another NBA legend known for his love of cards and casinos. Barkley has often spoken about their legendary golf and poker sessions, sometimes wagering tens of thousands per game.

Jordan also played with other high-profile poker lovers like Antoine Walker, John Salley, and later even Phil Hellmuth, one of the most decorated players in poker history. Hellmuth reportedly admired Jordan’s table presence and competitive edge, noting how Jordan “hated to lose, even at cards.”

While Jordan never competed in high-stakes public tournaments like the World Series of Poker, he regularly played in private games with pros, celebrities, and wealthy businessmen, often putting tens — or hundreds — of thousands on the line.

He was also inspired by the iconic “everyman” Chris Moneymaker who won a 2003 WSOP bracelet after being the first online qualifier. The then full-time accountant symbolized how anyone with the grit and determination to push through adversity had a chance in the poker world, and this resonated with Jordan. Moneymaker who is now an ACR Pro for the popular Americas Cardroom is the opposite of Jordan – he wasn’t born with athletic superiority or a gift from God. However, Moneymaker has made a name for himself as a poker great, showing how the barrier to entry is low if you’re willing to work at your craft.

Big Games and Bigger Bets

Perhaps the most well-known example of Jordan’s poker obsession is the infamous card game during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. “The Dream Team” reportedly played poker well into the night, with Jordan at the center of the action, locked in fierce battles with Barkley, Magic Johnson, and others.

The games weren’t just for fun. Teammates recalled Jordan getting visibly agitated when he lost and doubling down to win his money back. In fact, some players joked that the real competition wasn’t on the court — it was in the hotel poker room.

Another reported incident took place during his MLB stint. On road trips with the Birmingham Barons, Jordan would organize poker nights on the team bus, often running the game himself and intimidating teammates with his sharp instincts and trash talk.

In charity circles, Jordan’s poker passion also served a philanthropic purpose. He’s played in numerous celebrity poker games benefiting organizations like the James R. Jordan Foundation and Make-A-Wish. In these games, Jordan’s presence alone could boost buy-ins and viewership, turning a standard tournament into a headline event.

The Myth, the Money, and the Mystery

Jordan’s poker play is legendary, but it’s also cloaked in secrecy. Because many of his highest-stakes games were private, much of what we know comes from anecdotes, leaks, and teammate stories. There are reports of million-dollar swings, weekend-long games, and even hosted tournaments in his Chicago mansion.

And while critics have occasionally raised concerns over his gambling habits — including during the height of his NBA career — Jordan himself has always brushed them off

“I have a competition problem,” he once famously said, “a competitive problem.”

That “problem” made him a global icon. And at the poker table, it made him a player you never wanted to see across from you — cool, calculating, relentless.

Still Betting on Greatness

Michael Jordan may be long retired from the NBA hardwood, but his competitive fire hasn’t dimmed. Whether it’s golf, business, or poker, he continues to pursue the thrill of domination — not just winning, but breaking opponents with skill, strategy, and sheer willpower.

In the game of poker, as in life, Jordan never folded when it counted. And that’s what makes his obsession with the game more than a hobby — it’s another chapter in a legendary career built on the desire to conquer.

At the poker table, the rules may change — but for Michael Jordan, the game is always the same. Win. At. All. Costs.

Chicago Bulls now hold leverage over Josh Giddey in contract talks

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) gestures after making a three point basket against the Miami Heat during the second half at United Center.

As the NBA heads closer to the offseason, the Chicago Bulls have a lot of roster questions to address. Not the least of which concerns Josh Giddey. The Australian star averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game in the 2024-2025 season and is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Considered a vital piece of the Bulls’ overall attack, the team will look to retain Giddey, and they may be able to do it at a reduced rate. That’s good news, considering that the Chicago guard helped fill some of the offensive void after the club traded Zach Lavine to the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-way deal in February.

Coming off a 39-43 season, the Bulls can’t afford to lose any of their current weapons, unless it somehow involves a trade for a top-flight NBA talent. And even if they do pull off a deal, they will want to keep Giddey in the fold. His return and a few other offseason moves could determine if the 2025-2026 squad will be mediocre… or true contenders.

Giddey Improved Greatly and Emerged as a Leader for the Bulls

The deadline deal that saw Lavine depart was essentially what thrust Giddey into a bigger spotlight. In the final portion of the season, he saw his numbers surge. Even the guard himself admitted that he felt as though he needed to step up after the move, adding that he no longer felt like the ‘new guy’ on Chicago’s squad.

“The first half of the year, it’s a new situation, so naturally there’s going to be an inclination to come in here and try to fit in,” Giddey said, according to Yahoo Sports. “That was my initial mindset. I never wanted to come in and try to not ruffle feathers, but change the whole dynamic of the way guys played and the way the team played.

“But I think it took me a little while to find my feet, and obviously, the trade deadline happened when Zach got moved, and he was obviously such a big part of what we did here.”

Over the last ten games of the season, Giddey racked up 207 points, 96 rebounds, and 92 assists. Those numbers stack up against almost any other guard in the NBA, and it’s evidence as to why the Bulls would like to see how much further he can develop from there.

Bulls Can Match Any Deal For Giddey

Josh Giddey could get approximately $25 million per year during the offseason from Chicago. And while he’s free to explore his options outside the Windy City? He’s still a restricted free agent. So, barring some team offering him some out-of-this-world contract, it’s more than likely he will be back in the red and black next season.

Having that final say over Giddey’s destination puts Chicago in a perfect position to enter discussions on a potential long-term contract. They know the max number that Giddey could be offered, so they already have a ceiling on how much they will have to pay to keep this breakout superstar. If the Bulls can lock him up for the next 4-5 seasons, it would be at a bonus buy.

Still just 22 years old, the 6’8″ guard looks to be trending upward, but there’s no way to account for how he will perform over the long haul. Many media sources have pointed to the contract that teammate Trent Williams signed with the team as a cautionary tale. Williams signed a five-year, $90 million deal last summer, and his numbers on the court didn’t match his numbers in the scorebook.

The Bulls are still a fairly young, developing team, and by holding on to Giddey, they could build the team around his unique set of skills. Numerous reports state that he will be seeking a five-year, $120 million deal. For Chicago, that’s an investment in the future, and one they are certainly going to make.

Chicago Bulls fans excited by Jerry Reinsdorf’s new ownership plans

Chicago Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf holds the NBA championship trophy before the game between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees at US Cellular Field.

The Chicago Bulls have made one playoff series since 2018, and have not made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2015, when they lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Jerry Reinsdorf, who won all six of his NBA titles in the 1990s as an owner of the Bulls, appears to favor mediocrity in the Play-In Tournament over employing leaders who would gut the roster and build a championship contender.

Reinsdorf, 90, bought the Bulls in 1985 and has shown no signs of being ready to sell the team that became a global brand under his ownership when Michael Jordan played for the Bulls.

However, Reinsdorf’s mortality as an owner took a hit on Thursday when the Chicago White Sox announced that Reinsdorf could finalize a deal to sell the MLB team to Phoenix Suns owner Justin Ishbia any time between 2029 and 2034. Reinsdorf has owned the White Sox since 1981.

“Breaking: The White Sox announce they have entered into a long term investment agreement with billionaire Justin Ishbia: ‘The agreement provides that, from 2029–2033, Reinsdorf will have the option to sell the controlling interest to Ishbia,’ Jesse Rodgers of ESPN posted on X. “After the 2034 season, Ishbia will have the option to acquire the controlling interest.

“In the event of any such future transaction, all limited partners of the Sox would have the opportunity to sell to Ishbia at that time.”

Bulls fans on social media were excited about the report, believing that the aging owner will soon have a succession plan for his NBA team.

“Good news,” wrote a fan. “Reinsdorf has the Bulls and WSox in one of America’s tier 1 cities and runs them very cheaply. There’s no reason why they are one of the poorest ran organizations in their respective leagues. Even in the Jordan years, they were cheap and did what they did to Pippen.”

“Even better news Reinsdorf is passing ownership of the Sox off.. eventually. Let’s hope he does the same with the Bulls, but, quickly,” posted another.

“Mind you jerry reinsdorf is 89 years old. also why not the bulls? SELL THEM TOO,” hopes a fan.

The White Sox are about to be back.

Chicago Bulls are set to make one of their biggest assets available: Report

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan yells at an official during the second half against the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center.

The Chicago Bulls didn’t have another great season. They finished the year tenth in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 39-43 and competed in the play-in tournament for a third straight season. There were few expectations for the Bulls entering the 2024-25 season outside of finding players to build around, and the 2025-26 season will be no exception.

Most of the guys on the 2024-25 roster will return for next season, while others like Nikola Vucevic and Lonzo Ball could find their way onto other teams by the NBA Draft. Vucevic and Ball, were both on the trade block last season, but the Bulls couldn’t find a suitor to trade them to and instead retained both and ended up giving Ball a two-year contract extension.

Both could net the Bulls a decent haul of picks and players, but it will ultimately come down to whether the Bulls are willing to do what it takes to get better or if sitting in purgatory is okay with them.

The Chicago Bulls could trade Lonzo Ball before next season

Since Ball wasn’t traded last season, it would make sense that he’ll be on the move either this off-season or possibly at the beginning of next season. The Bulls have an abundance of guards on their roster, with Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, and Ayo Dosunmu being the other three on the roster besides Ball.

Evan Sidery, an NBA contributor for Forbes, has reported that the Bulls are expected to make Ball available in trade talks. Sidery reports that Ball’s $10 million he is owed for this season should be workable for any team that needs an experienced point guard.

“After signing a two-year, $20 million extension in February, Lonzo Ball is expected to be made available in trade talks by the Bulls.

Ball’s $10 million annual salary, which includes a team option for 2026-27, is easily digestible for contending teams in need of guard depth.”

Any team acquiring Ball will be getting valuable asset, as he is a solid veteran point guard. This past season was Ball’s first time back on a court since suffering a knee injury that kept him out for a few seasons and he performed well.

In 35 games last season, Ball averaged 22.2 minutes, 7.6 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game, all career lows for Ball. Hopefully, once he gets more and more removed from the injury he’ll get back to the player he was.
