He has some defending limits but won’t be denied whenever he can score: all in all, he’s pretty darn good, as the Sacramento Kings now know. He left a hole in Chicago that still needs to be closed.

Another issue has been the injuries. Throughout the season, the Bulls suffered a lot of them. Many of their most valuable players have been unavailable for several games and sometimes this problem translated into losses and bad performances. Obviously, a league like the NBA is hard and competitive. Each team plays more than 80 games, without Playoffs, and these athletes may become pretty fatigued. The rotation is of paramount importance and if a team has sub-par reserves it will probably lose on the court. Whoever can manage health and injuries well won’t suffer too much in its performance.

The firing of Peter Patton ​

After the loss against Miami, Arturas Karnisovas, the executive vice president of basketball operations for Chicago, fired Peter Patton, director of player development and shooting coach. He was probably the scapegoat in an environment disappointed by the third consecutive elimination during the play-in tournament. Patton has been around since 2023 and a lot of players cared and respected him. They manifested their opinion to the front office, saying Patton was the real deal and helped them become better at what they do for a living. It would seem, though, that his attitude to always speak his mind wasn’t liked by Karnisovas, who always asks for others’ opinion but can’t suffer people who actively disagree with him.

We don’t know if there were other reasons behind this firing but it seems like a rushed move, probably a clear symptom of a somewhat dysfunctional way of operating.

LaVine has shot 52.7% from the field and 44.1% from beyond the arc, both marks that measure closely to the shooting numbers that he had with the Bulls this season.

Despite the Bulls only winning one playoff game in LaVine’s lengthy tenure with the organization, he made it known to the media that he has nothing but love for the city of Chicago.

“Chicago’s always going to be a special place in my heart,” LaVine said. “I loved Chicago… Chicago’s always going to be a special place in my heart, and I hope the fan base, the organization know how much I deeply care for them.”

LaVine instantly became a staple in the Chicago organization and was with the team for eight years before the three-team deal that sent him to the Sacramento Kings ahead of the trade deadline in February. He started and played in 42 games for the Bulls this season and rebuilt his trade value big time. LaVine averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1% from the field.

The former UCLA Bruin’s ability to take over games throughout his time in Chicago was known across the league. He had some memorable moments in a Bulls uniform and it has certainly been weird for fans to watch games without him on the roster.

A trade for LaVine was needed for Chicago, especially with the season that he was putting together. The Bulls needed to get some sort of a rebuild in motion, and moving off a veteran like him made all of the sense in the world at the time.

Coby White has been fantastic for the Bulls this season, and he is a player in Chicago that LaVine will keep an eye on moving forward.

“It’s great to see Coby on a roll,” LaVine said. “I saw he struggled a little after the trade to find himself; glad to see him being aggressive again.”

White is averaging 19.5 points per game this season and has 20 or more points in his last nine games. This is the best-scoring stretch of the former first-round pick’s career and he is putting himself into the conversation of being a major part of the Bulls’ future. White’s contract is up at the end of next season, so the Bulls front office will mull his future with the organization this summer when the new league year officially begins.

Coby White was on another heater last night. It wasn’t enough for the Chicago Bulls to get another key win in their hunt for the play-in game, losing to the Phoenix Suns 127-121, but it was enough to put him in historic company.

For the last 10 games, Coby White has scored at least 20 points. It’s a scoring streak previously unseen by the former UNC guard, and it has played a direct role in the Bulls getting hot and surging back into the play-in conversation in the Eastern Conference.

With 24 points last night, White added his name to the history books. He is now the 11th player to ever record 10 straight games of 20 or more points. He joins the legendary Michael Jordan, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Jimmy Butler, Bob Love, Orlando Woolridge, Artis Gilmore, Reggie Theus, Lauri Markkanen, and Derrick Rose.

White’s streak shows no signs of slowing down. He recently opened up on how he’s adapted his game. He’s shooting over two more attempts per game at the rim since the All-Star Break. Opponents are making him drive, and he’s making them pay en route to a historic run.

White is doing this largely efficiently. He’s not just chucking shots on a team without much other offensive help. During the 10-game span, he’s shooting 47% from the field despite shooting under 31% from three. He’s taking advantage of what the defense is giving him and doing it like few others in Bulls history.

Up next is the Sacramento Kings, who have the 18th-best defensive rating in the NBA, which doesn’t necessarily imply that they’re going to stop White’s barrage. The Los Angeles Lakers (12th) follow them on the schedule and could, though. After that, the 20th-ranked Denver Nuggets and Lakers again, so White has a chance to continue etching his name into history.

White nearly won Most Improved Player last year after his scoring jumped to just over 19 points per game. This year, he’s improved his scoring yet again, and his recent hot streak could continue pushing his numbers higher.

The luck of the lottery will have a lot of bearing on who they will be able to target, but one thing about being in a poor position to start with is that they don’t need to be picky. While some teams will have specific positions to target, the Bulls currently find themselves at a point where any high-quality additions would be welcomed.

The team needs a rebuild, and this freedom going into the draft could be a benefit that puts them in a better place than other teams.

The Bulls will be keen to re-sign restricted free agents like Josh Giddey and Tre Jones and will be working on some key trades to try and transform the team for next season. Utah Jazz’s Walker Kessler could be a consideration if Vučević moves on, and the 7-footer has proven to be more than capable since becoming a regular starter.

A move for Giddey would require the Bulls to maximize the space around the 22-year-old, and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Isaiah Joe could be the solution.

Oklahoma will want to keep Joe, but there is a possibility that they could look to a lower-cost option as they prepare bigger contracts for more integral stars for their future.

Chicago Bulls urged to draft starter’s replacement amid trade rumors

For a moment at least, the Chicago Bulls looked like a team in March and early April that might try to forgo a major rebuild when they were one of the hottest teams in the NBA.

Following sobering losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder near the end of the regular season and a 109-90 thumping by the Miami Heat at the United Center in the Play-In Tournament, the Bulls must reconsider selling off pieces and restarting the process of a rebuild.

Coby White and Nikola Vucevic are prime assets for a trade this summer.

Following the Bulls’ 129-119 win over the Denver Nuggets on March 24, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Vucevic was leaning towards wanting to stay with Chicago rather than hoping for a trade in the summer so he could play for a championship contender.

“One player who’s suddenly buying in — and would like to stay another season and finish out his contract — is Vucevic,” Cowley wrote. “That’s a bit surprising, especially after good friend DeMar DeRozan was traded to the Kings and Alex Caruso to the Thunder last summer, followed by the LaVine trade.

“All signs had pointed to Vucevic being traded by the Feb.  6 deadline, and when he wasn’t, there were concerns he’d check out.”

Bulls urged to draft Vucevic’s replacement​

Julia Poe of the Chicago Sun-Times believes the Bulls still intend to shop Vucevic this summer and will likely execute a trade by the deadline next season. Poe thinks the Bulls must take a center in the draft to replace Vucevic.

“Whether or not the Bulls manage to move Vučević this summer, drafting a center should be a priority for the front office in the next two years,” Poe wrote. “Although the Bulls have a few genuinely promising options at guard and wing positions, their current frontcourt is threadbare. Zach Collins is a perfectly reasonable stopgap, but the Bulls need to bring star power into the position.”

Poe thinks center Jalen Smith is another trade asset for the Bulls this summer.

Vucevic has been a key player on the Bulls’ offense in head coach Billy Donovan’s system. However, Chicago would be wise to find a rim protector with their next center.

Defense and second-chance points were costly in losses this season, especially in the Play-In Tournament, and it’s another reason why prolonging a rebuild with Vucevic makes no sense.

At 34, Vucevic is coming off a season where he averaged 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

White Sox channel Bulls with exciting new City Connect jerseys

Someday soon, Chicago fans might notice some of the iconic Bulls red and black on the baseball diamond. The Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls have teamed up to collaborate in a way no two sports teams ever really have. In the past, fans have designed fake jerseys that merge the two sports teams of a prominent city, but it’s never been actually done until now.

Pretty soon, the Chicago White Sox will be wearing red. They typically wear black and white, as their name suggests, but they’re partnering with the NBA franchise across the street (metaphorically) to come up with something bold and new.

The jerseys will be Bulls red and black on the sleeves with the White Sox logo there. They will also have pinstripes to further merge the two franchises. It’s the first on-field jersey combining brand elements from both MLB and the NBA, and they will debut on Friday against the Houston Astros.

Per ESPN, Bulls executive director of creative services Jon Shoemaker said, “The Bulls were proud to contribute to the White Sox efforts and to be a part of creating the first-ever MLB jersey to feature NBA team marks. While collaborating with the White Sox on the design, our shared goal was clear that we wanted to honor our city and its great fans with an MLB jersey that reflects our mutual connection to and love for Chicago. We added visual elements that both teams share, like pinstripes, as well as details that are unique to the Bulls, like the ‘Chicago’ wordmark and our signature red and black.”

The black pinstripes are a nod back to the Michael Jordan team that won 72 games, then an NBA record. Of course, Jordan famously played for the White Sox, taking this crossover a step deeper and providing even more fun layers for fans. The neckline showcases the nine combined championships for those two franchises, and the word “Southside”, an homage to the previous City Connect uniforms, is on the pants.

During an appearance on the 670 The Score’s “Mully & Hugh Show” on Thursday, Bulls insider KC Johnson of CHSN said he doesn’t think there’s much of a chance Giannis ends up in Chicago. He’s not even convinced Giannis wants to leave Milwaukee.

“I mean, a lot of things need to happen,” Johnson said of Giannis potentially joining the Bulls. “I mean, first of all, let’s analyze the relationship between Giannis and that franchise and that community, right? I mean, that’s a pretty unique situation in the league.

“Giannis has always professed loyalty to that place. Obviously, they can, you know, supersede that loyalty and trade him without his desire or his buy-in. I would be surprised if that would happen.”

Even if Giannis wanted out, the Bulls probably don’t have enough in their war chest to trade for the two-time NBA MVP.

“If it were to happen, I mean, it’s going to be a bidding war,” Johnson said. “I assume it’s not going to be conducted like the Luka Doncic trade. And yeah, I mean, I’d like to hear the package you guys came up with for the Bulls because I’m struggling to find a suitable one.”

The Bulls might not have enough to pull off a trade​

Johnson doesn’t think an offer of three first-round picks, Nikola Vucevic, and Coby White would be enough to land the “Greek Freak”, even at the age of 30.

“No. I have not spent a lot of time on this. But what I would say is, obviously, I’ve heard some of the chatter. Look, it’s going to be a dominant theme to this NBA offseason, undeniably… But, even like yesterday, I got, you guys get those emails from like the oddsmakers sites, different sites. So, I got one from yesterday. I just for fun opened it.

“The Bulls were like 50-to-1 shots. I mean, it’s like, if Vegas says that, I don’t see a pathway for a trade for the Bulls. It’s fun to talk about. It’s fun to fantasize about. I assume that the Bulls would get involved in that bidding, but I don’t see a pathway.”

The Bulls showed their hand by making the Play-In Tournament. They were one of the hottest teams in March before losing to the Miami Heat at home in the postseason.

The Bulls’ efforts after the trade deadline hurt their chances of being able to draft Cooper Flagg or another top prospect this summer. While Chicago’s draft options are likely bust, using White and/or Matas Buzelis to trade for one of the NBA’s premier players would make the front office’s decision not to tank a little more worth it.

Chicago Bulls guard has been on a heater in his last 10 games

The Chicago Bulls are slowly winding down their season as there are only 13 games left in the regular season.

The Bulls are coming off a tough loss to the Phonix Suns where they lost by a score of 127-121.

Coby White was the Bull’s leading scorer in the game collecting 24.0 points on the night.

The Bulls also saw an impressive performance from one of their guards, Tre Jones, who has been on a pretty decent tear as of late.

Jones was one of the players brought over in the three-team trade that sent Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings. Since joining the Bulls Jones has been outstanding, averaging 11.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

Jones has been on a hot streak as of late, scoring 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and a steal a game in 30.5 minutes in his last ten games. The hot streak continued for Jones as he was the Bulls fourth-leading scorer in the loss against the Suns, putting up 12.0 points while adding 9.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in 32.0 minutes.

March has been the 25-year-old best month, as Jones doubled his point total from February, 7.2 points, to 14.2 points this month. Jones also is putting up season highs in assists (7.0) and rebounds (4.3), while also shooting his best from behind the arc for this season (58.3%).

Jones’s performance, helped him capture his first double-double of the season against the Utah Jazz, where he scored 18.0 points and dished out 12.0 assists.

Will Jones return for next season?​

Jones will become an unrestricted free agent after this season and is looking to get a pretty good payday this summer. The Bulls have a ton of guards on their roster, with Josh Giddey, Coby White, and Ayo Dosunmu to name a few, all being under contract for next season.

Giddey has emerged as the main point guard for the Bulls as he is also on a heater post-All-Star break. Giddey is expected to test the market as a restricted free agent and will likely resign with the Bulls, which takes a spot away from Jones for next season.

A helpful player in trying times​

Jones has provided highlights for fans in what has proven to be a trying season for the Bulls.

If the Bulls bring Jones back, he would be a great option to have off the bench or make a spot start.

The way Jones has been playing, he is looking like a player the Bulls should think about building around.

2 Chicago Bulls draft targets identified by insider

Following their 109-90 blowout loss to the Miami Heat at the United Center in April’s Play-In Tournament, the Chicago Bulls are entering an offseason where they are expected to continue the roster teardown that started with DeMar DeRozan’s trade to the Sacramento Kings last summer.

The Bulls traded Zach LaVine in February, but decided to put the rebuild on hold so young players like Matas Buzelis, Coby White, and Josh Giddey could gain valuable experience as to what it was like to get thumped by the Heat in the postseason.

Chicago did so at the expense of gaining better odds to select higher in this year’s draft.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times thinks Nikola Vucevic’s time with the Bulls is about up via a trade this summer or next season, and argued Chicago should draft a center in the first round...if they can get help in the draft lottery on May 12. Khaman Maluach and Derik Queen are his best fits for the Bulls.

“Before the lottery jumbles things up, the Bulls sit at No. 12, spending the season disregarding a ’25 draft class that is loaded at the top,” Cowley wrote. “There are two true NBA centers who can help the Bulls, but unfortunately they both will be gone by No. 12 unless the Bulls get lucky and move up.

“The best fit would be Duke’s 7-2 up-and-comer Khaman Maluach, who would instantly change the shot-blocking issues for coach Billy Donovan. Maluach needs work on the offensive end but started to shine in that department the last month of the season. The other big is Maryland’s Derik Queen, who is further along on the offensive end but not the shot blocker Maluach is.”

One prospect could be available at No. 12​

Via a May 2 mock draft by Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, Queen comes off the board at No. 8 to the Toronto Raptors. The six-foot-10, 246-pound center averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists for Maryland last season.

Despite Cowley suggesting 12 is too low, Vecenie actually has the Bulls selecting Maluach with the No. 12 pick. The seven-foot-two, 250-pound center averaged 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and .5 assists for the Blue Devils last season.

As has been the case for too long, Bulls fans can hope.

Chicago Bulls’ could be a potential landing spot for superstar despite reports saying otherwise

The offseason outlook for the Chicago Bulls is rather bleak after getting blown out in the play-in tournament by the Miami Heat at home. The team finished with a 39-43 record and seemingly have not been able to get out of the play-in tournament for the past few years. Guys like Josh Giddey and Coby White were tremendous in Chicago’s backcourt this year, but the team was just too inconsistent halfway through the campaign that there end-of-season breakthrough was enough to earn them one final home game.

The front office needs to make a change this offseason and there is a long shot possibility of a franchise-altering move being on the table. The Bulls have not had a true superstar since the prime Derrick Rose days, but that would change if they pulled a move off for a player that they are very familiar with.

The Chicago Bulls could be in play for Giannis Antetokounmpo​

There have been rumblings of what Giannis Antetokounmpo’s time post-Milwaukee could look like. While nothing is set in stone that the 2021 NBA Finals MVP would leave the Bucks in the first place, but the idea of it has made it’s rounds through league circles as of late. Howard Beck of HoopsHype wrote about Chicago being a big city that Antetokounmpo could be interested in, despite certain reports saying otherwise.

“I poked around a little bit a few days ago and the initial thing I got from one person was just like some rumblings that it’s already just the big cities: One of the LA teams or one of the New York teams or maybe Miami, not a big market, but a glamour market, mid-size market,” Beck said. “I think they threw Chicago in there. I can’t remember if Houston came up. It should. So first is like where does Giannis want to go and do they honor that? Because again, back to Damian Lillard, you’re not obligated to honor it.”

Antetokounmpo played in 67 games for Milwaukee this past season and posted his usual superstar numbers. The Greek Freak finished the campaign averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game on 60.1% shooting from the field. Despite hitting 30-years-old, there is no doubt that Antetokounmpo can be guy that leads a franchise like the Bulls to glory.

It would take a lot to get Giannis Antetokounmpo to Chicago​

Along with paying his salary, the Bulls would have to cough up a lot to bring Antetokounmpo to the Windy City. Guys like White and former rookie standout Matas Buzelis would likely be the starting price that the Bucks would ask for in a trade. This doesn’t include the draft capital that Chicago would have to surrender and any additional active players that Milwaukee might have interest in.

There is a strong possibility that the Bulls would end up in the exact same spot in the standings with Giannis due to all of the assets they would need to give up in a trade. Things could change based on what other free agents they could attract with what little money they would have remaining to spend, but who knows how that would work out.

Chicago Bulls insider pours cold water on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade idea

With how things have gone for the Milwaukee Bucks, a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade seems exceptionally likely. The Chicago Bulls, along with countless other teams, have been linked at times to such a deal. Antetokounmpo is a franchise-changing, MVP-caliber superstar that any team would benefit from having. Do the Bulls have what it takes to land him? One team insider isn’t sure it’s remotely realistic.

Bulls analyst K.C. Johnson thinks any hypothetical trade package sending Giannis Antetokounmpo to Chicago is pretty far-fetched. He said, “I see Giannis to the Bulls as an extreme long shot, but never say never in the NBA.” That said, he attempted to work something up that could get the Bucks star in Bulls red.

He believes the Bucks won’t want Nikola Vucevic. That prevents the Bulls from matching salaries more easily, so Johnson believes the team will need to sign and trade Josh Giddey. Johnson also said it’s likely that Coby White would be added to the package.

He also expects the Bucks to at least ask about Matas Buzelis, and “every” pick that the Bulls own, as well as any pick swaps, would also be added to sweeten the pot for Antetokounmpo. “What would that leave you?” Johnson asked. “That would leave you Giannis and Vucevic as your core moving forward.”

The insider then posited that fans might not even want that. “I know he’s a top-three player in the world, I know he’s a special talent… that’s not the Arturas Karnisovas I heard in the season-ending news conference.”

Johnson pointed out that management asked for patience, so he doesn’t expect them to immediately get impatient and make one of the largest trades in franchise and NBA history to land Antetokounmpo. Things can and do change, but it doesn’t seem likely in his eyes.

Because Karnisovas has been aggressive and failed before, he doesn’t think this move is realistic or likely whatsoever. It would be a huge surprise, but as Johnson said, one can never say never with the NBA.

NBA insider claims Bulls have interest in ostracized Warriors star

The Chicago Bulls have some work to do this offseason. After falling yet again in the play-in, despite getting the home game and finishing the regular season on a pretty hot streak, the Bulls are back at the top of the lottery, making it difficult to land a true star once again in the draft. They can pursue other options, like free agents or tradeable players, to improve this offseason.

One such player is Jonathan Kuminga. Though his season isn’t yet over, there is an expectation around the NBA that he will be available this offseason. He’s somewhat fallen out of favor with the Golden State Warriors, and they could move on to make room for veteran pieces around Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry. If so, one NBA insider believes the Bulls are interested.

Jonathan Kuminga linked to Bulls by NBA insider​

Through the postseason, which includes eight games now that the Golden State Warriors advanced out of the play-in and through the first round in seven games, Jonathan Kuminga has played three times. He’s made one start, and in those three games, he’s averaging under 17 minutes per game.

Contrasted with his regular-season minutes (47 appearances and 24.3 minutes per game), it’s easy to see that right now, Kuminga is on the outs in Golden State. Per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Kuminga might just be available for trade this offseason. The Brooklyn Nets already tried and failed to trade for him.

Siegel added, “Another team that league sources indicated as one keeping a close eye on Kuminga over the last year is the Chicago Bulls. After letting DeMar DeRozan go to the Sacramento Kings last offseason and then trading Zach LaVine to Sacramento this season, the Bulls have reshuffled their roster.”

That would essentially give the Bulls a younger player to build around, especially if they decide to part ways with Josh Giddey and/or Coby White. Those two are nearing extension time, and the Bulls have to decide whether or not they can or want to keep either or both of them. One of them could be central in the package for Kuminga.

All three of those players, White, Giddey, and Kuminga, have unclear futures, so perhaps swapping some of them is best for all parties. It would allow the Bulls to reset and to take a younger player on and put off the extension question for the time being.

Chicago Bulls told troubled player he’s on his own this offseason; can’t trade: Report

The Chicago Bulls have one big regret this offseason. The Bulls should have several regrets, especially after they cost themselves good odds at landing a top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by working overtime to make the Play-In Tournament, only to be blown out 109-90 by the Miami Heat at the United Center.

Chicago has a history of being overly optimistic about their roster being able to compete. That’s why they gave Zach LaVine a Super Max deal when he didn’t deserve it, a consequence the Bulls are still living with as they have yet to fully start a rebuild.

Another mistake by the Chicago Bulls​

Then there’s the story of Patrick Williams.

The Bulls gave Williams, the No. 4 pick in the 2020 draft, a five-year contract extension worth $90 million before the 2024-25 season. The 23-year-old power forward averaged nine points, 3.8 rebounds, and two assists per game last season.

Per Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bulls did the equivalent of telling him to go (expletive) himself this spring.

“According to a source, the Bulls basically told Williams things are now on him,” Cowley wrote. “They have catered to him by juggling at least three developmental coaches to work with him in the last few seasons. They’ve tried tough love by pulling him out of the starting lineup. They’ve handled him with kid gloves, at times, by giving him extended minutes he hasn’t earned.

“And they offered the ultimate security blanket by giving him a five-year, $90 million contract extension last summer. Their reward? Career lows in scoring, rebounding, three-point percentage and field-goal percentage — the very definition of a player who needs a change of address to save his career.”

Because of the ridiculous contract Chicago gave him last year, no team in its right mind will trade for Williams. They’re stuck with him, and their response is to tell him to “sink or swim.”

Like the rest of the Bulls, Williams is just treading water.
