The Chicago Bulls arrived in Denver searching for anything that could break their five game slump, and a little luck ended up helping them hang around long enough to finish the job. Their 130-127 win over the West’s second best team tightened into a possession by possession battle, turning the closing minutes into the kind of chaotic stretch that shifts an entire night.

The NBA’s Last Two Minute Report flagged only one missed call in the closing moments of Chicago’s tight win. With a little under 30 seconds remaining, officials determined that Kevin Huerter should have been whistled for a defensive three second violation on the play after Nikola Vucevic knocked down his three.

A quick look at the replay makes the foul hard to miss. Huerter is caught hopping in the middle of the paint with no clear assignment, leaving him in an illegal spot for far too long.
Bulls got a stroke of luck in final seconds of last night’s win in Denver.
Only one incorrect call made in Last Two Minute Report. Kevin Huerter should have been called for defensive three seconds with under 30secs to go.

If the officials had caught it in real time, Denver would have earned a technical free throw and kept the ball, giving them a real chance to shift the outcome. They could have chased a quick three to cut the gap to one or hunted a four-point trip to tie the game outright. And with how the final moments unfolded, that missed call looks even bigger, because Jamal Murray came right back down after the Bulls stopped the clock on Dosunmu and buried a three to make it 128-127.

Close calls are part of the deal. The Last Two Minute Report has tilted toward and against the Bulls plenty of times, and it will keep doing so as the season keeps moving. Even so, when a game ends with almost no room to breathe, it becomes obvious that every whistle and every missed call carries real weight.
