Matas Buzelis’s Rookie Surge And Rising Expectations

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) points with Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis (14) against the Los Angeles Lakers during the second half at Crypto.com Arena.

The Chicago Bulls spent most of the 2024‑25 campaign shuffling lineups and auditioning young players, yet one consistent bright spot emerged. Matas Buzelis, the 20‑year‑old Lithuanian forward selected at No. 11 in the 2024 draft, started just a handful of games early in the season, then broke through after the All‑Star break. Over his final 31 appearances, he averaged 13 points on 47 per cent shooting and earned a spot on the NBA’s All‑Rookie second team. ESPN’s Jeremy Woo recently ranked Buzelis fourth among the league’s most intriguing sophomores, noting that the Bulls’ best path forward likely involves a prospective Buzelis star turn.

A Broader Skill Set: Ball‑handling And Leadership Goals

Chicago fans have started using gaming analogies to describe Buzelis’ potential. The Esports Insider Canada team covers high‑stakes esports betting and bonuses, and its emphasis on unexpected breakout performances mirrors the Bulls’ hope that their young forward can make a sudden leap. Drawing on that parallel, Buzelis’ success hinges on sharpening his existing skills and adding new layers to his game.

Buzelis showed glimpses of versatility during his rookie campaign. During the season, he averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and one assist in about 19 minutes per game, numbers that suggest significant room for growth. Team officials have reportedly set two clear goals for him this summer. First, they want him to take on more on‑ball responsibilities. Chicago expects him to operate out of pick‑and‑rolls and attack off the dribble more frequently in 2025‑26, especially if the club decides to hold firm in contract talks with Giddey.

The second goal concerns his shooting range. Buzelis knocked down 47 per cent of his attempts during that late‑season run, but shot just 28 per cent from beyond the arc for the year. Coaches have challenged him to become a reliable perimeter threat. An improved three‑point stroke would force defenders to respect his spacing and create driving lanes for teammates like Coby White and Noa Essengue, addressing one of the biggest offensive issues highlighted by critics of Chicago’s offseason moves.

How His Growth Fits The Bulls’ 2025–26 Picture

The Bulls have spent much of the summer preaching patience. General manager Artūras Karnišovas and Donovan secured multi‑year extensions, signalling stability even as fans clamoured for a rebuild. That stability hinges on the success of a core built around Giddey, White and Buzelis. An NBA insider predicted Chicago will match any offer sheet for Giddey because the front office views him as a long‑term backcourt anchor, yet negotiating his price has slowed other roster moves. ESPN notes that Chicago remains in a contract standoff with the Australian guard, and the presumptive return of his playmaking should help Buzelis find comfort in an expanded role.

Meanwhile, critics outside the organization argue that simply extending Donovan and standing pat at the draft cements mediocrity. The Bulls will try to counter that narrative by spotlighting internal development. Buzelis’ potential as a 6‑1 wing with ball‑handling chops fits the modern NBA’s emphasis on versatility. His willingness to run the offence and his improved communication could also ease the pressure on Giddey, allowing the Australian to spend time off the ball.

That approach is a gamble. It assumes that Vucevic’s trade value can be converted into assets during the season rather than via a buyout, and that Buzelis will indeed make the sophomore leap analysts expect. There’s genuine optimism on that front: Woo notes that Buzelis was viewed as a contender for the No. 1 pick before the 2024 draft and still possesses significant upside as a tall, skilled perimeter scorer.

He will turn 21 in November and has the benefit of a full NBA summer to build strength and refine his shooting mechanics. Chicago’s brass is betting that those tools, combined with a larger role, will allow him to become the kind of multifaceted forward that modern offence runs through. In a season where external critics will scrutinize every decision, the Bulls’ fortune may rest on whether Buzelis can justify that confidence.

NBA insider predicts Chicago Bulls to regress in 2025-26

NBA: Toronto Raptors at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls won 39 games last season en route to the East’s ninth seed. This year, one insider predicts 35 wins. The over/under line is set at 30.5, though, so that’s still more than expected. That could be influenced by Josh Giddey’s pending RFA status, though. Either way, the Bulls may get worse.

The Chicago Bulls might get worse

The Chicago Bulls seemingly did a lot to stay the same in 2025-26. They retained Tre Jones, are likely to bring back Josh Giddey, and swapped out Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro. It’s virtually the same team plus Noa Essengue, who might not play that much.

Still, Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey sees a little bit of regression to an overall record of 35-47. “Josh Giddey is still a restricted free agent for the Chicago Bulls. And while re-signing feels like the likeliest outcome, it’s a little odd that it hasn’t happened yet,” he wrote.

If Giddey walks and the Bulls don’t net anything, unlike a sign-and-trade for Jonathan Kuminga, then the win total would plummet. With Giddey, the Bulls went 13-12 over their last 25 games, and he averaged 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 2.0 threes, and 1.4 steals per game.

“But regardless of how that situation resolves itself, and barring some rebuild-promoting trades between now and February, Chicago should have enough talent to hover around the East’s play-in range again,” Bailey added, which is arguably not a very high bar to clear.

The analyst said, “Coby White is an explosive scorer. Nikola Vučević is a steady presence inside, who can also hit threes and set up his teammates. And Matas Buzelis has plenty of upside to uncover.” That should leave the Bulls well above the worst teams in the NBA, but it may not be all that exciting to barely make the play-in yet again.

But if White remains an elite scorer and the Bulls get a substantial leap from Buzelis (with Giddey back in the fold as well), then it wouldn’t be far-fetched to see them improve upon the 39-43 record they had last season and maybe make the playoffs in a very weak Eastern Conference.

NBA analyst unhappy with Chicago Bulls extending Billy Donovan

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan reacts during a timeout in the first quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena.

The Chicago Bulls have finished above .500 once since they hired Billy Donovan. As such, one insider doesn’t like extending him this offseason. The Bulls have been mediocre, and they’re not going anywhere, but they wanted to keep the coach who has led all of that anyway.

NBA insider doesn’t love Chicago Bulls signing Billy Donovan to an extension

The Chicago Bulls got a D+ for their offseason from Bleacher Report insider Zach Buckley, who took aim at a bunch of things the Bulls did (or did not do) this offseason. Only two teams got a D+ (the Brooklyn Nets as well), and only one team got a worse grade of F: the New Orleans Pelicans.

The overdue youth movement in Chicago still hasn’t really started, and that’s coming from someone who really liked the team spending the No. 12 pick on toolsy swingman Noa Essengue,” Buckley admitted. “The Bulls might have a couple of young building blocks in Essengue and Matas Buzelis, yet the overall direction of this club remains entirely underwhelming.”

The trade market this offseason was “hyperactive,” and Buckley couldn’t believe the Bulls couldn’t find more than just Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro over the offseason. He’s particularly shocked they didn’t trade Nikola Vucevic, too.

“Are the Bulls prepared to pay what it will take to keep 2026 free agents Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu around?” Buckley asked, “Because if the answer is anything other than a full-throated ‘Yes!’ then one or both should’ve been flipped for long-term assets.”

The insider criticized the Bulls for being committed to mediocrity, which is why he can’t understand the Billy Donovan extension. “The Bulls are basically running back after three consecutive play-in losses, and the coach who oversaw all of this pedestrian play inked a multi-year extension. Deep sigh,” he concluded.

Chicago Bulls

This offseason could’ve been better. The Bulls could’ve gotten more for Isaac Okoro. They could’ve accepted the deal the New Orleans Pelicans offered them (a 2026 unprotected first to swap down). They could’ve traded Vucevic. Instead, they kept the gang together and extended the leader for probably more of the same down the line.

NBA insider analyzes 3 scenarios for Chicago Bulls, Josh Giddey

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls still have not re-signed Josh Giddey, which at this point is a little bit alarming. There are plenty of ways this can go. One NBA insider thinks there are three plausible outcomes, and they were ranked and analyzed. Here’s what could happen between now and October.

What could happen with Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey?

The Chicago Bulls refuse to meet Josh Giddey’s reported asking price, and the guard refuses to accept a deal. That has them currently at a stalemate, but there are three possible outcomes to this never-ending saga.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey said the least likely is that Giddey signs an offer sheet with another team. The Brooklyn Nets have space, but they don’t need or want Giddey right now, so any offer sheet Giddey signs would be less than the $80 million deal the Bulls offered, so Chicago would match. Giddey would just lose money.

The next most likely outcome is that Giddey gets into a sign-and-trade, probably with an Eastern Conference team. Giddey has reportedly had some traction with Eastern Conference teams so far, so that would make a rival more likely than a swap for Jonathan Kuminga.

“But when you canvas the East for teams in need of a lead playmaker, you quickly realize there really aren’t a ton,” Bailey said. “Add in the fact that any team taking on Giddey would then be hard-capped at the first apron, and this scenario starts to feel pretty unlikely, too.”

And unsurprisingly, Bailey believes the most likely outcome is a reunion with the Bulls. “Perhaps threatening to play on the qualifying offer could force the Bulls to mold the deal a bit more to his liking. That could mean a bit more money each year or a shorter-term deal that gets him back into free agency sooner,” Bailey argued.

The Bulls were plus-11.7 points with Giddey, Coby White, Kevin Huerter, and Matas Buzelis all on the floor, so it’s in their best interest to bring Giddey back, even if it means they don’t sign him to the most team-friendly deal ever.

“Chicago actually does have a need the Australian fills, and it allowed him to grow into his game in a way he never really could with the Oklahoma City Thunder,” Bailey added. “And his stock should keep going up if he’s able to develop and maintain the continuity he has with the Bulls.”

For now, things are up in the air, but they won’t stay that way for long.

NBA insider can’t see 2025-26 Chicago Bulls reversing mediocre trend

Chicago Sports

The Chicago Bulls have not been good or bad in the NBA for the last several years. They’ve been firmly in the middle, which is not exactly a good place to be if you ever want to win anything. Unfortunately, based on how the offseason has gone so far, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change any time soon, especially not in 2025-26.

Chicago Bulls expected to hover around .500 once again

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets Coby White

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Charlotte Hornets

The Chicago Bulls were four games under .500 last season. Over the last four seasons, despite moving parts and different players, they are exactly .500. Sadly, ESPN insider Zach Krum can’t see that trend ending this year or any time in the future.

“The Bulls have been the embodiment of NBA mediocrity for years and they have the record to prove it. Over the past four seasons since they added DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to start a new era for the franchise, the Bulls are 164-164,” he said.

That core is gone, though, so the Bulls did move off of them. However, they seem to have moved laterally rather than forward or backward, which is how teams get better in the NBA. Either they get better, or they get worse so they can get better through the draft.

“They still show no signs of embarking on a true rebuild — they sought players in trades for Ball and Caruso instead of draft picks — meaning they’re poised to end up right back near .500 in 2025-26,” Krum concluded.

The Bulls have won 164 games and lost 164 games in the last four seasons, and that number will define them in 2025-26. They might win 41 games and be .500, but they won’t be too high or too low on that estimate, no matter what happens. That includes if they re-sign Josh Giddey, which they haven’t yet.

The Bulls don’t seem to have any plan or urgency, either. The trades they made were more lateral moves, and while drafting Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue in back-to-back drafts does represent a shift towards the future, it’s hard to really impact that with picks outside the top 10.

Chicago Bulls predicted to up $80 million offer to Josh Giddey

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls offered Josh Giddey a four-year, $80 million contract, but he declined it in the hope that he’d get more. Whether or not he will remains to be seen, as the Bulls are playing hardball right now. However, one insider predicts that the final result will be a reunion for a higher price than Chicago offered.

Insider predicts larger contract for Josh Giddey with Chicago Bulls

Josh Giddey reportedly wanted no part of the $80 million deal he was offered by the Chicago Bulls. What about $96 million over the same four years? According to Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale, that would be much more doable.

Favale wrote, “The Chicago Bulls have offered Josh Giddey a four-year deal in the neighborhood of $80 million. The 22-year-old, however, continues to seek $30 million per season. Meeting in the middle feels fait accompli.”

For now, the 22-year-old guard doesn’t have any other major suitors to help drive the price up. There is no bidding war whatsoever, and there’s not going to be, otherwise we’d have heard about it by now, Favale pointed out.

“While that gives the Bulls a ton of leverage, they’re not about to squeeze their young floor general to the point he signs his qualifying offer and heads into unrestricted free agency next summer,” the insider added. The Bulls do want to lock him up for a while, just not at a bad price.

“Bet on this ending with a four-year deal that sees Chicago come up a little bit and Giddey moving off his initial ask in exchange for flexibility at the end of the contract,” he said. “Prediction: Josh Giddey re-signs with the Bulls on a four-year, $96 million deal, with a player option on the final season.”

That would be very much in the middle of the $20 million and $30 million salaries that the Bulls and Giddey wanted, respectively. It would be a much more affordable deal, and at only four years, it wouldn’t last all that long, even if it did age terribly. It’d be a win for both sides; it just remains to be seen if and when they’ll realize that.

Chicago Bulls’ lack of 2025-26 national TV games is shameful, insider says

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

The Chicago Bulls are one of the most prominent teams in the league, at least by media market. That does not matter much to the NBA. Chicago is often seen as the third of the big three cities in the United States with Los Angeles and New York. Sadly, even that can’t get the Bulls on TV, and that’s not exactly shocking to one insider.

Chicago Bulls have three national TV games

The Chicago Bulls don’t get out much, at least as it pertains to playing anywhere that’s not the Chicago Sports Network. This season, the Bulls will have just three nationally televised basketball games. Only the Washington Wizards have fewer than that.

That’s really disappointing to Jasmyn Wimbish of CBS Sports, although she admits it’s not unwarranted or surprising. “It is a shame that the team in the third-largest media market in the country cannot muster more national attention than this,” she wrote. Chicago has a ton of media attention, but the Bulls don’t deserve much of it.

Sadly, that’s just how the Bulls are now. It’s how they’ve been for several years. They’re 164-164 over the last four years. Nothing about that demands more national TV games. “Satisfied with mediocrity and in no rush to get out of that spot,” Wimbish added. “Perhaps Coby White and Matas Buzelis can inject some life back into this once storied franchise, but until then, it’s only a trio of national games for Chicago.”

She mentioned White and Buzelis, but it’s hard to see any of them evolving into must-see TV right now. Buzelis is more likely since he’s younger and has more developing to do. White is what he is, and he’s not someone who demands to be seen by the wider NBA audience.

Chicago Bulls

Noa Essengue, similarly to Buzelis, has that upside and can develop, but he’s not exactly a player who projects as a franchise-altering player that would make Chicago a good team again and force them back on TV. This has been a problem with team-building, but it’s now seeping into the lack of games on ESPN, NBA, and the like.

Chicago Bulls’ shocking Coby White trade proposed for 2026 deadline

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers

The Chicago Bulls have two guards with contract decisions coming up, and an NBA insider believes one of them is going to be dealt at the deadline. Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu have uncertain futures right now, and it is possible that White gets traded elsewhere.

Coby White might get traded from the Chicago Bulls

Coby White is in a very interesting spot, one that’s difficult for the Chicago Bulls. Do they commit and overpay for a scoring guard who has possibly reached his ceiling? Do they trade him and lose a true fan favorite? What about letting him walk if the price gets too high?

Unfortunately, a trade is very possible. Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes said White is one of five names likely to dominate the 2026 deadline. The only reason he won’t be is that the Bulls typically don’t do the difficult but necessary thing. Otherwise, all signs point to a deal.

“Playing out the last year of his contract, White is in line to make just $12.9 million in 2025-26. The most Chicago can offer him in an extension is $89 million over four years, based on a starting salary worth 140 percent of that $12.9 million figure. That’s not nearly enough for White, who could easily fetch $25-30 million per season on the open market,” Hughes said.

Of course, the Bulls could offer him that in free agency, but White probably wants to see if there’s a team out there that can get him to play meaningful basketball and finish far from the .500 mark the Bulls have hovered around for what seems like forever.

“Chicago probably should have dealt White at last year’s deadline, or even the one before,” Hughes said. “It was immediately evident that his bargain contract was going to be too small for a realistic extension, and that unrestricted free agency was nearly inevitable.”

Unfortunately, they didn’t do that, so the value of White has dipped with less team control. But when faced with losing White for literally nothing, the Bulls might take a lesser offer even if they’re late to the ball. That means he’s likely going somewhere else in February.

Bulls Label Matas Buzelis An Elite Prospect

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan instructs forward Matas Buzelis (14) during the game against the Atlanta Hawks during the first half at State Farm Arena.

The Bulls have endured mediocrity over the past few seasons, finishing no higher than 6th but no lower than 10th in four years. And this off-season has been more about the Josh Giddey contract situation than any new trades, although they have managed to secure Tre Jones’s signature once more, and traded Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro from the Cleveland Cavaliers – a move that has surprised and even confused some fans and commentators.

The Bulls’ NBA Chances

Even though they’ve not set the league alight in recent years, the Bulls remain one of the most popular franchises in the NBA. Despite their popularity, they’re priced at around 750/1 to be crowned NBA champions.

The popularity of the NBA as a betting market, which sees odds offered at online casinos, sportsbooks, and even esports betting sites, means punters can get bigger odds than this if they shop around. According to sports betting expert Sam Wilfred, some of the best sportsbooks have diversified to esports and other events.

Patrick Williams Integral

For the Bulls to have any shot of winning the league, they will need their existing roster to improve. One such player is Patrick Williams. For the last four years, Williams has averaged 9 PPG and 4 RPG. He hasn’t regressed, but he hasn’t progressed yet, either. He can kick on and become a vital part of the Bulls squad.

But, on the other hand, he also has the potential to become a late trade as the trade deadline fast approaches. One factor preventing that move is the fact that he is entering the second year of a $90m five-year extension signed last year – an extension that is, indirectly, causing further trouble this year.

Josh Giddey Contract Negotiations

A serious error meant the Bulls outbid themselves for Williams’ signature, and it ended up costing them. They want to avoid a similar situation this year, and their reluctance to go big on another player that may yet flatter to deceive has seen them submit a contract offer of around $20m a year for promising but unproven youngster Josh Giddey. For his part, Giddey believes $30m a year to be a fair amount, matching the $150.5m five-year deal signed by Jalen Suggs and the Orlando Magic.

Matas Buzelis – Potential All-Star In The Making

One player who is being tipped to produce the goods for the Bulls is Matas Buzelis. Buzelis was chosen as the number 11 pick in last year’s draft, despite being expected to land as a top-three pick.

He went on to earn All-Rookie Second Team Honors, and Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas said of the 6”10 forward: “He has so much skill in his bag. Shooting threes, blocking shots, running the break, dunking the ball, he’s athletic, he can put it on the floor, create for others, so we’ve seen a lot of it.”

The Season Ahead

There are still a couple of months before the season starts, which should provide the Bulls plenty of opportunity to sort out contract situations and potentially complete another trade or two.

Their first game against the Knicks, on November 1, will give some indication as to whether fans can expect an improved finish or whether they should expect more mid-table play. Current favourites for the Championship are the Oklahoma City Thunder, at 5/2, with other fancied teams including the Denver Nuggets (8/1), Houston Rockets (8/1), and the Cleveland Cavaliers (8/1). The Knicks, the Bulls’ first opponents of the season, are next, in the eyes of the bookmakers, at 9/1.

Chicago Bulls will reveal true nature within first 14 games

Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams (44) and center Nikola Vucevic (9) battle for the ball with Denver Nuggets forward Zeke Nnaji (22) during the first half at United Center.

The Chicago Bulls’ full schedule is here, and it features a stunningly brutal 14-game run to open the season. That will define who the Bulls are this year, one insider says. If they can get off to a hot start, then they might be better than expected. If they flounder there, it might be hard to turn things around.

Chicago Bulls face daunting opening 14-game stretch

The Chicago Bulls have perhaps the least enviable start to the season coming up. In 2025-26, they’ll start with a 14-game run that K.C. Johnson believes will define this version of the Bulls. They will either do well and be a good team, or they won’t.

“The Bulls have a very, very difficult schedule right out the gate,” Johnson said. “I think it’s going to set the tone for their season. They face some extremely high-quality opponents in those first 14 games. Four of those first five are at the United Center.”

He added, “They face the Eastern Conference finalist New York Knicks twice. They have a back-to-back at Milwaukee and at Cleveland, who obviously had the best Eastern Conference regular-season record last season. It concludes with a four-game road trip, including three games on the West Coast. It’s a very difficult schedule.”

The Bulls have to make the most of this early stretch, but it is hard to see them winning too many games right out of the gate. Even beyond those teams Johnson mentioned, there are a lot of possible losses on the docket.

Chicago Bulls

They also have to visit the new-look Orlando Magic. They host the Kristaps Porzingis-aided version of the Atlanta Hawks at home. The Philadelphia 76ers should be healthy at this time, which means they’ll be better than Chicago in all likelihood.

The Denver Nuggets, in Denver, are another supremely challenging matchup. The San Antonio Spurs will have Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Dylan Harper for their matchup with Chicago.

The very winnable games include home against the Sacramento Kings, on the road against the Utah Jazz, and on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers, but there’s a very good chance the Bulls get off to a disastrous 3-11 start.

Chicago Bulls analyst admits some panic about Josh Giddey

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Washington Wizards

It’s now been 52 days since Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey entered restricted free agency. No end to this saga appears to be in sight. Is it time for concern? One insider is admitting some trepidation, but he believes there’s still time for this to resolve itself cleanly.

Chicago Bulls insiders discuss Josh Giddey saga

For now, Josh Giddey and other restricted free agents are having a lot of trouble getting any interest on the market, thereby giving the teams that own their rights, in Giddey’s case, the Chicago Bulls, all the leverage as they seek long-term deals. But Giddey is holding strong. Is it time to panic that he won’t be back?

David Haugh said on Chicago Sports Network, “There’s a $10 million gap between what Giddey is seeking and what we know the Bulls are offering. Where does this go from here, and at what point should Bulls fans start to worry?”

Cam Smith said, “Training camp opens September 29… I’m starting to get concerned, as you sit on this day, as you get closer to training camp, what’s the mentality of Josh Giddey as he prepares for that? Because that’s a significant size gap when you think about what [he] wants, reportedly.”

Smith also added that he’s very concerned that Giddey will end up signing the $11 million qualifying offer and enter unrestricted free agency a year from now. “That is the worst-case scenario, especially when you think of what you gave up to get Josh Giddey,” the analyst said.

Chicago Bulls

He also said he’d prefer to see Giddey and the Bulls reach some sort of conclusion on this by the end of the month, which is now just over a week away. He wants Giddey to be comfortable and have the right mindset for training camp at the end of September.

Smith did not say much about Giddey signing elsewhere, and his ultimate thought process is that the guard will be back. The concern is that it takes so long that it impacts Giddey’s preparation for next season, which begins with quite a difficult stretch of games.

Rare Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant card to become most valuable basketball card ever

Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant card auction

Even after his playing career is over, Chicago Bulls and basketball legend Michael Jordan continues to break records. This time, he had the help of the late Kobe Bryant.

A very rare 1/1 2007-08 Dual Logoman Autographed Kobe Bryant-Michael Jordan card is up for auction and is currently priced at $7,076,000.00 including the buyer’s premium. When it officially sells, it will break the record for most expensive basketball card, beating the previous mark of $5.9 million for the 2009 Panini National Treasures Logoman Steph Curry 1/1 in a private sale.

The demand for this Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant card is astronimcal

“The demand for this card is astronomical, which makes sense, because it has everything, including photos, jersey patches and signatures from two of the greatest players who ever stepped on the court,” says Chris Ivy, Heritage’s Director of Sports Auctions. “The Dual Logoman card offered in this auction is the only example created that includes only Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant — making it the most sought-after example of the incredible Upper Deck Logoman series, and because of Kobe Bryant’s tragic death in 2020, it always will be the only one.

An undeniably unique lot that will be offered in the auction is a Massive 1994-98 United Center Original Game Used Court Section that is signed by Jordan … with five inscriptions. Measuring 8 by 8 feet, this extraordinary keepsake is part of the floor used when Jordan returned to the team after his first retirement and helped the team embark on its second run of three consecutive NBA championships.

Teams are required by the NBA to replace their court flooring at least every 10 years; photo-matching experts at PSA have matched this court in its current state to photography from the 2001-02 season through the 2005-06 campaign, after which it was replaced. More than a decade after it was removed from service, the consignor arranged to have Jordan sign it.

Not only did the NBA legend inscribe his enormous — 32 inches! — signature, but he underscored his autograph with details rarely if ever added to others: “Air Jordan, 5x MVP, 6x Finals MVP, 10x Scoring Title, HOF 2009.”

Michael Jordan appears on eight double logoman cards all-time but this is the only one that features the late Kobe Bryant. The auction will end on August 23rd.

Chicago Bulls to honor one of their legends on January 24

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have had many legends throughout their history, with Michael Jordan ranking as the best among them. After Jordan, there’s Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Joakim Noah, who were all a part of successful seasons in Bulls history.

There’s another player, on the same level as Jordan, and he will be honored by the Bulls when they play the Boston Celtics next season.

On January 24, when the Bulls play the Celtics, they will honor their former number-one overall pick in the 2008 draft by retiring his jersey, according to Bulls on CHSN.

A three-time All-Star with the Bulls and an All-NBA first team selection in his MVP season, Rose getting his jersey retired is a well-deserved honor. Rose joins, Jordan, Pippen, Bob Love, and Jerry Sloan as the only players to have their numbers retired.

Rose spent seven seasons with the Bulls (2008-2016), and averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and shot 30% from three and 48% from the field. Rose also won the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year award and was the MVP in 2010-11.

The Bulls honoring Rose is a well-deserved honor, as he was a part of the last team in Bulls history to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals (2010-11). With there seemingly being an open lane in the East due to all the injuries, the Bulls could have a chance to get there again.

Josh Giddey’s absence tarnishes Chicago Bulls’ starting 5

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) in the second half against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

With Josh Giddey on the floor, the starting unit for the Chicago Bulls is pretty solid. Without him, they falter badly. It’s imperative to re-sign Giddey for this reason, as the current projected five-man unit is apparently one of the worst in the entire NBA, according to one insider.

Chicago Bulls’ Josh Giddey-less lineup gets ripped to shreds

When Josh Giddey was on the floor with the other starters, the Chicago Bulls had a decent net rating in 2024-25. However, right now, he’s an unsigned restricted free agent, so he’s not a projectable part of the lineup yet.

And as a result, the Bulls ranked 27th in terms of all team starting lineups, according to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz. Yes, it is entirely due to Giddey’s absence, an absence nearing two months that has no end in sight.

“The Chicago Bulls probably won’t be the 27th-best team in basketball this season, although their current starting lineup is worthy of being ranked this low,” Swartz said. The lineup was Tre Jones, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic.

“Ignoring the Josh Giddey situation for a moment, the other four starters here registered a putrid net rating of minus-22.3 together with a defense that allowed a whopping 135.6 points per 100 possessions,” Swartz said. Even with Giddey back, that defense is not getting any better.

“And at age 35 in October, Vucevic isn’t going to suddenly turn into a rim protector,” the insider noted. “The Bulls are enduring a semi-youth movement and have decent depth if Giddey returns, although this starting lineup is baaad.”

With Giddey after the All-Star break, the Bulls had a solid run and finished 13-12. Their net rating was also decent, proving that he can add value to this lineup in spite of his own shortcomings. However, since he’s not technically back as of now, the lineup is projected to be pretty awful.

Fortunately, time is running out, so there should be some clarity soon. And it remains more likely than not that the two sides eventually see eye to eye and come to an agreement, saving the lineup and the team’s ranking.

Chicago Bulls haven’t actually messed up Josh Giddey trade, analyst claims

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Washington Wizards

The Chicago Bulls have been criticized endlessly for last offseason’s shocking Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey swap. They didn’t get a single pick and instead came away with a player that, after about two full months, remains a free agent. But one insider thinks this offseason is evidence that they haven’t totally botched it.

The Chicago Bulls have handled the Josh Giddey trade well since it happened

Trading Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey straight up was not a great idea for the Chicago Bulls last offseason. They probably could’ve landed much more for the player that most teams would’ve liked to have. But that’s over and done.

“The Chicago Bulls should have accepted one of several offers for Alex Caruso that reportedly included multiple first-round picks,” Bleacher Report insider Grant Hughes said. “So on one level, it’s not an overreaction to say they made a mistake by targeting Josh Giddey a year ahead of free agency.”

And with Giddey dangling in free agency right now, it’s “tempting” to criticize the Bulls even more because they will either have to overpay to bring him back on a long-term deal or risk losing him entirely, thus making the Caruso trade even worse.

Hughes says that’s too far, though. “Maybe the initial decision was shaky, but Chicago is doing exactly the right thing by playing hardball with Giddey,” he noted. “Even after his breakout second half last season, the Aussie guard remains a difficult fit on a winning team because of his unreliable defense and limited off-ball value.”

Giddey, like every single player on earth, has value assigned by what he’s able to do on the floor compared to his salary. “Giddey wouldn’t be a positive-value asset if he were making $30 million per season. But at $20 million, the Bulls preferred price tag?” Hughes believes that would be a different story.

The Bulls have not done a ton well, but Hughes loves the unwillingness to make a bad trade worse by overpaying to keep the asset they got in return. It’s a small win for a front office that’s been plagued by bad decisions for a long time.

NBA analyst picks Chicago Bulls’ best asset and a trade proposal

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers with guard Josh Giddey (3) during the second half at United Center.

The Chicago Bulls have a few potential trade candidates and some draft picks they could use to make some moves. Which one is the best? According to one NBA analyst, it’s Coby White, the scoring guard who has developed into a star in the NBA. With one year left before a crucial contract decision, what could the Bulls even get for him?

Insider reveals Coby White trade package for Chicago Bulls

Among every draft pick and player on the Chicago Bulls’ roster, nothing carries more value right now than Coby White, according to Bleacher Report insider Zach Buckley. What could they get for him? Nikola Jovic and Simone Fontecchio from the Miami Heat.

“Prior to the additions of Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue, White arguably looked like Chicago’s most promising building block,” Buckley said. “Yet, the 25-year-old no longer seems cemented into the long-term plans, due in no small part to the fact unrestricted free agency awaits him after the upcoming season.” Josh Giddey can attest to how difficult that is.

With how the Bulls have seen the Giddey situation go, they might be motivated to move White before that happens. “They could be getting quite a bit here, as Jovic has flashed a really interesting mix of size (6’10”), shot-making and ball-handling, and Fontecchio holds obvious bounce-back potential after losing more than six points off of his three-point percentage (33.5, down from 40.1 in 2023-24),” Buckley added, indicating that the Bulls really do come out in a decent spot despite moving on from their star.

Miami might also be motivated to move Jovic because of his pending contract extension as well as the fit with Kel’el Ware and Bam Adebayo. “The Heat had an opportunistic offseason, but they could still use the kind of on-ball creation that White brings,” Buckley concluded.

While moving on from White would sting, this sort of trade would save them some money in the immediate future and give them a young player to build around. Plus, Fontecchio is not a bad complementary piece, either. If Chicago did this, it would require some forethought, though, and that’s not been very common.

Analyst: The Chicago Bulls won’t have a good offense in 2025-26

Chicago Bulls guard Tre Jones (30) passes the ball to center Nikola Vucevic (9) during the second half against the Detroit Pistons at the United Center.

The Chicago Bulls have some interesting offensive pieces on the roster in Coby White, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic. When/if Josh Giddey is re-signed, he will also be part of that group. Unfortunately, that’s not enough, one insider believes, to really give the Bulls an actually good offense.

Expect mediocre offense from Chicago Bulls in 2025-26

Coby White truly blossomed into a legit scorer last year, and he was a real offensive threat to other teams. He could get even better, as he is still very young. He’s the main reason the Chicago Bulls just might have a passable offense.

“There’s a lot of motivation for Coby White to ball out this season heading into free agency next summer. He averaged a career-high 20.1 points per game last season and should maintain a large role with Zach LaVine gone,” Bleacher Report analyst Greg Swartz said.

“Josh Giddey (restricted free agent) played well down the stretch and gives this team a pass-first guard/forward who likes getting everyone involved,” he added. “Tre Jones signed a new three-year deal to return as well.” Those players will also add some quality offense.

However, aside from that, it’s pretty dire. Isaac Okoro might be a better defender than Lonzo Ball, whom the Bulls traded for Okoro, but he does not shoot well and can’t do very much with the ball in his hands. That might only hamper the Bulls on that end of the floor.

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers

“Nikola Vucevic will turn 35 before the start of the season and is a prime trade or buyout candidate if the Chicago Bulls struggle out of the gate,” Swartz added. “As good as White has become, there’s no offensive alpha for this team to go to when it needs a basket.”

He ultimately gave Chicago a C- grade for its offense after the offseason. However, if the Bulls do not find a way to retain Giddey, that grade might end up being generous. Giddey is a decent scorer and a very good facilitator. He even improved his three-point shooting in 2024-25, so there’s reason to think he can be a very capable offensive player, but if he’s not on the roster, that hurts the Bulls tremendously.

NBA insider predicts outcome for Chicago Bulls, Josh Giddey stalemate

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) looks to pass against Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent

Right now, Chicago Bulls RFA Josh Giddey, even though he is restricted, is the best available free agent left in the 2025 class. Where will he end up with his contract dispute spilling over into September? One insider has a prediction that will please Bulls fans, but it might not be what Giddey truly wants.

NBA analyst predicts Chicago Bulls re-sign Josh Giddey after altering offer

What’s going to happen with Josh Giddey? At this point, nothing seems certain. It’s September now, which means there have been two full offseason months without a contract with the Chicago Bulls. It’s beginning to get a little alarming.

But Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has a prediction, and it’s one that would probably be appealing to the Bulls and their fans. “The Bulls appear to believe they hold all the leverage with Josh Giddey, offering a contract thought to be in the $80 million range over four seasons. The team seems to think that’s too much for him to reject to take a one-year, $11.1 million qualifying offer.”

Giddey could always take a gamble and accept the qualifying offer (around $11 million for one season) and then enter free agency as an unrestricted free agent, but that’s a gamble that hardly ever pays off in the NBA. Giddey would be better served taking whatever deal he gets from Chicago than that.

“The stalemate may resolve soon, but it’s challenging to see Giddey landing anywhere else this coming season outside of Chicago,” Pincus said, adding his prediction. “If Giddey can get the Bulls to make the fourth year a player option, he should take the deal on the table. Chicago may not be willing, and that may still be the best choice he can make.”

That would be a much more palatable option for the Bulls, as they don’t want to increase the offer financially because then it would border on too expensive and not team-friendly enough for a player who was good but not great.

For Giddey, this is obviously preferable to the one-year QO, and it gives him the flexibility down the line when he’s still in his prime to go back into free agency and try to up his value. Otherwise, he can opt in and remain with the Bulls at what might end up being a better salary anyway.

2026 NBA mock draft has Chicago Bulls landing ‘confident shotmaker’

High School Basketball: Hoophall West High School Invitational, Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are roughly the same team as they were last year, which essentially means they’ll have a pretty similar year, leaving them at the same spot in the draft after the lottery. So with the 12th pick again next year, which prospect might Chicago end up with? One insider has his prediction.

With the 12th pick in the 2026 NBA draft, the Chicago Bulls select

Syndication: The Commercial Appeal

Syndication: The Commercial Appeal

According to Jonathan Wasserman, a draft expert with Bleacher Report, it will be Arizona guard Brayden Burries. The Bulls are probably going to re-sign Josh Giddey, which is what helps them stay at the 12th pick in Wasserman’s mock, but the guard rotation isn’t as secure otherwise.

Coby White is a pending free agent with trade rumors swirling, and he’ll likely end up overpaid if he stays in Chicago. Ayo Dosunmu isn’t an elite player, and he is also a free agent soon. The backcourt isn’t secure beyond this year.

“One of the top scoring guards in the 2025 high school class, Brayden Burries should give Arizona an instant injection of creation and ball-screen offense,” Wasserman said in predicting that the Bulls would select the Arizona guard.

Wasserman continued, “At 6’4″, 205 pounds, he has a strong mix of size, strength, and touch for driving and tossing in floaters. He does most of his damage at the rim or behind the arc, where he’s a confident shotmaker but still needs to become more consistent.”

Syndication: The Commercial Appeal

Syndication: The Commercial Appeal

The analyst believes Burries does enough with his passing to get scouts to imagine a good combination of scoring and playmaking at the NBA level. However, make no mistake about it, Burries’ bread and butter is scoring the basketball, which he does on and off the ball.

“Burries should be a high pick if he can avoid concerns over lacking playmaking upside or explosiveness,” Wasserman said. He would give the Bulls a valuable guard to build around, adding to the two young frontcourt players they’ve acquired over the last couple of seasons with Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue. It’s hard to build from the 11th and 12th picks, but this is how Chicago can do it.

Analyst picks the best Chicago Bulls player 3 years from now

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) points with Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis (14) against the Los Angeles Lakers during the second half at Crypto.com Arena.

In three years, the Chicago Bulls will sport a very different roster than the one they have now. Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey (after he inevitably re-signs), and Noa Essengue will probably be there, but there’s no telling who of the current Bulls will last that long. Which of them will be the best? According to one insider, it’s pretty clearly Matas Buzelis.

NBA analyst says Chicago Bulls’ best player in 2028 will be Matas Buzelis

NBA: Golden State Warriors at Chicago Bulls

Matas Buzelis is the future of the franchise, so it makes him an easy pick when projecting who the best Chicago Bulls player will be down the road. Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes didn’t even have to think twice about it.

“Even if Matas Buzelis hadn’t broken out in the second half of last season, he probably still would have been the pick for the Chicago Bulls,” he said. Buzelis was struggling early in 2024-25 and failed to get a lot of minutes, but everyone watching knew there was enough athleticism and competitiveness to suggest he would eventually be something.

“After the All-Star break, Buzelis became a full-time starter. The promotion agreed with him,” Hughes said. “Averages of 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists tell some of the story, but it was Buzelis’ aggression and surprising facility as an on-ball attacker that opened eyes widest.”

Buzelis also upped his three-point shooting volume and still made an impressive 36.1% of his attempts. “Just scratching the surface of his game, the 6’10” forward has plenty of room to grow into a key role in Chicago. He’ll only be in his age-24 season three years from now,” Hughes concluded.

The other side of this coin is that Buzelis just doesn’t have a lot of competition. Noa Essengue is still incredibly raw and may or may not pan out. Josh Giddey will probably be re-signed, but it’s not likely that he continues to get better, thereby letting Buzelis pass him.

Coby White may not be around much longer. Trade rumors persist, and he’s a free agent next year anyway. Buzelis, since he does more than just score, might end up better regardless of White’s contract status. Most other Bulls are not up for this conversation or are way too old (Nikola Vucevic) to be considered.
