Chicago Bulls stay put in post free agency NBA Power Rankings

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Orlando Magic

The Chicago Bulls are, for the most part, the same team they were last year. That has resulted in absolutely no change in ESPN’s latest power rankings. They swapped out one role player for another, added a first-round rookie, and are negotiating with Josh Giddey, but they otherwise haven’t done much to change the perception.

Chicago Bulls don’t move in ESPN Power Rankings

Before free agency, the Chicago Bulls ranked 23rd in the NBA per ESPN’s Power Rankings, which is perhaps fitting for a team that finished below .500 and crashed out of the play-in game at home against the Miami Heat.

After the main window of free agency has closed, the Bulls are once again 23rd. The assumption is that they will bring back Josh Giddey, but that is not an addition since he was on the team, and it doesn’t change their roster construction.

“Despite finishing 39-43 in back-to-back seasons, the Bulls are in a position to return a virtually identical roster next season,” Jamal Collier analyzed. “They sent Lonzo Ball to Cleveland in exchange for Isaac Okoro — forgiving Okoro’s offensive limitations exposed in the playoffs in an attempt to build a defensive identity, according to VP Arturas Karnisovas.”

Of course, Collier mentioned that the final thing on the to-do list is to figure something out with Giddey, who remains a restricted free agent “locked in a stalemate” with the Bulls over the salary terms for his upcoming contract. It remains to be seen when that will happen.

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls

But as of now, the Bulls have not made any major moves. Trade rumors swirled around Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White, but neither has had any traction on that front. Nikola Vucevic seemed like a certain goner given his age, salary, and contract length, but he hasn’t been traded either. It’s the same team minus Lonzo Ball and plus Noa Essengue and Isaac Okoro.

That might ensure that the Bulls aren’t terrible next season, but it probably won’t be enough to get them over the hump and into the playoffs in the East, unless Essengue is a draft steal and Matas Buzelis takes a major leap heading into year two.

NBA analyst calls for Chicago Bulls to part ways with former top-5 pick

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls drafted Patrick Williams fourth overall, and last year extended him on a five-year, $90 million deal. Now, one NBA analyst says it’s high time to trade him and put an end to this nightmarish partnership. Williams has struggled to really excel at the NBA level with the Bulls.

Chicago Bulls should trade Patrick Williams

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Portland Trail Blazers

There is no bigger believer in Patrick Williams than the Chicago Bulls. They surprisingly drafted him fourth overall in 2020 over Isaac Okoro (whom they now have), Onyeka Okongwu, Tyrese Haliburton, and a few other prospects who easily have been better NBA players. Then, they extended him for $90 million when few had any interest in his free agency at all. The Bulls, for some reason, have loved Williams.

But that doesn’t mean it’s the best place for him. The Bulls have gone nowhere with him, and it doesn’t look like Williams can ever be anything in Chicago. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley said that he is one of five players that’s still under 25 but are in major need of a change of scenery.

“That’s not to say his stagnation should be blamed on the organization. They’ve given him one chance after the next to find his footing, and it just hasn’t happened,” Buckley noted. “At times, he has appeared way too passive, but when he’s tried to dial up his aggression, that hasn’t worked, either.”

Maybe Williams is just not a good NBA player, but he has good defensive tools and shoots 39.2% from three for his career. Some teams could make use of that, and since he’s only 23, Buckley said it was probably foolish to totally abandon hope on him. It is just well past time to change his scenery.

“It doesn’t take much imagination to see him comfortably and capably handling a three-and-D role, but that would still make him a massive disappointment in Chicago,” Buckley added. Fans don’t like Williams like the front office does, but they’d still prefer to see something out of a top-five pick making almost $20 million a year.

If he were traded, all expectations would go away, and since the Bulls would have to attach draft capital just to get rid of him, plenty of teams might consider taking a flyer. “The weighty pressure to perform would be off his shoulders, and he may not be asked to do more than dig in defensively and shoot from distance—skills he has already showcased at this level,” Buckley said.

The Bulls wanted more from Williams, but they’re not going to get it no matter how much they try, so it’s time to call it and move on.

Chicago Bulls insider expects star guard to remain with team

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls had two star guards reportedly mentioned in trade talks. Both Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu have key contract decisions coming up, and it made perfect sense to consider a trade since the Bulls were 39-43 last year. However, as of now, it doesn’t look like Dosunmu is going anywhere.

Chicago Bulls unlikely to trade Ayo Dosunmu

Ayo Dosunmu, as a two-way guard who has shown desirable skills on both ends of the floor on an expiring contract, was expected to be traded at some point this offseason. He still could be, or he could be traded before the deadline, but as of now, that’s not happening.

Insider K.C. Johnson said the Chicago Bulls are probably keeping him, “The Bulls did have substantive talks, I’m told, with a Western Conference playoff team earlier this offseason, well earlier, regarding Dosunmu. The two teams could not find common ground on a trade package. All signs point to Ayo Dosunmu returning [to the Bulls].”

The Bulls did explore some trades, but they ultimately decided that it wasn’t worth it. This could mean that whatever Western Conference team it was didn’t offer an appropriate package. It could also mean that the Bulls decided they’d rather keep Dosunmu anyway.

It’s still unclear what the future holds for him. This is his final contractual year. An extension, exit into free agency, or trade are all equally possible. The Bulls don’t have a clear direction, so any option is very plausible.

If they want to rebuild, he could be a trade option. If they don’t, he could exit in free agency or be extended since he does provide value to the team. There’s really no telling what the Bulls will do with him or Coby White, who may not have gotten into as advanced trade talks as Dosunmu, at this point.

But for now, he’s going to remain on the roster, further cementing the fact that the Bulls are almost running the same exact lineup and roster out for a second consecutive year. They made one trade to bring in Isaac Okoro; otherwise, it’s the same team, and that includes keeping Dosunmu.

NBA insider reveals Chicago Bulls’ hidden gem

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Portland Trail Blazers

The Chicago Bulls have a lot of notable players on their roster, but one insider believes Ayo Dosunmu doesn’t get the attention he deserves. Nikola Vucevic is known. Josh Giddey is a burgeoning star. Coby White is great, too. Matas Buzelis is shaping into a star as well. Dosunmu often gets overlooked, but that shouldn’t be.

Ayo Dosunmu is Chicago Bulls’ hidden gem

The Chicago Bulls have an interesting concoction of good NBA players and interesting names on their roster. Most of the NBA world knows about Matas Buzelis, Coby White, and Josh Giddey. According to Bleacher Report analyst Dan Favale, far too few know about Ayo Dosunmu.

“Dosunmu is more well-known than [other unheralded NBA players] but eons from a household name. Discussions about him have a tendency to gravitate toward what he isn’t—mainly, a true point guard or knockdown shooter. Whatever,” Favale said.

Dosunmu is 6’5″, and at that height, he really “blurs the line” between wing and guard. He probably shouldn’t run the offense more than a few times, but he does finish well and provide good rim pressure for someone who is that height.

“He has also shown glimmers of improved playmaking coming around ball screens and knows how to facilitate when attacking downhill,” Favale continued. “Payton Pritchard and Tyrese Haliburton were the only players last season to match his scoring efficiency (57.1 percent) and assist rate (12.4) on drives while finishing at least as many of them (371).”

Dosunmu is also a two-way player. He has spent a lot of his time with the Bulls defending the opposition’s point of attack, which is where he excels. However, he has also shown plenty of ability to hang with bigger small or even power forwards. He can defend multiple positions and has good offensive skills, too. That’s rare in the NBA.

There was talk that Dosunmu would get traded this offseason because he has just one year left on his contract, and the Bulls are currently kind of directionless. As of now, that isn’t happening, which might be a very wise plan for the Chicago front office.

Former NBA star describes Chicago Bulls player as ‘problem’ for NBA

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Toronto Raptors Matas Buzelis

The Chicago Bulls might have a future star on their hands with Matas Buzelis. Former NBA standout Kendall Gill discussed how he fared in his rookie season, what he saw from the young player’s development, and how bad all of this is for the rest of the NBA.

Chicago Bulls’ Matas Buzelis is a ‘problem’ for the rest of the league

Though it had its fair share of ups and downs, Matas Buzelis‘ rookie season seemed to indicate that the Chicago Bulls found a diamond in the rough. In a down year for draft prospects, the Bulls might’ve landed a steal at 11th overall.

Kendall Gill, a former NBA player, said, “As a veteran, when you see a young player like that, that did what he was able to do, showed the skill level, he’s going to be a problem. Believe me, he knows it. He was successful throughout the NBA season last year, and he wants to improve on that.”

Gill also noted that Buzelis is well aware of all the Cooper Flagg comparisons because they are similar builds and have similar games, though Flagg is coming into the NBA with a whole lot more fanfare than Buzelis did last season.

“He and Cooper Flagg have been battling since they were kids,” Gill said. “They’ve been battling. This is one of those rivalries that’s probably going to go all throughout their NBA careers.”

NBA: Golden State Warriors at Chicago Bulls

Buzelis finished with a somewhat underwhelming (though not when compared to some of his peers who were drafted earlier than he was) 8.6 points per game with 3.5 rebounds and a 45.4% field goal percentage.

However, as he got more time, he thrived. Buzelis averaged 13.0 points per game when his minutes nearly doubled after the All-Star Break. He averaged over 12.8 points per game for the months of February, March, and April. His shooting percentages also stayed mostly the same despite increased volume.

A hot finish and some really good performances (like a 28-point, nine-rebound, on 17 shots performance in late March) show that the future looks really bright for Buzelis, who could end up being a really good Bulls player soon.

Chicago Bulls insider believes Nikola Vucevic has trade value

Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic (9) leaves the court after the game against the Miami Heat at United Center.

The Chicago Bulls faced criticism and skepticism for their quiet offseason and struggles to trade star center Nikola Vucevic. While many believed the two-time All-Star would part ways with the team via a buyout, a Bulls insider believes Vucevic will still have trade value, although a deal is unlikely before the season starts in October.

Nikola Vucevic could leave the Chicago Bulls before the trade deadline

The Chicago Sports Network Bulls insider K.C. Johnson recently pushed back hard on growing speculation about a Vucevic buyout, believing the team isn’t planning to buy out Vucevic and will instead explore trade options leading up to the February 2026 deadline. Given his best season in Chicago with averages of 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists during the 2024-25 campaign, Vucevic was expected to have significant trade value, and the team hopes to turn his final year into assets through a trade.

Assuming a trade becomes feasible later in the season, the ideal outcome for Vucevic—and the Bulls—is a mutual separation that reunites him with a playoff-caliber team in need of a scoring and rebounding boost off the bench. At 34, he’d likely sign for the minimum but still provide value as a floor-spacing big with championship experience—a veteran presence that contenders often seek in February and March.

Chicago Bulls get painfully chastised by NBA insider

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have once again been accused of being aimless, this time along with three other NBA franchises. They’ve been stuck in the middle of the Eastern Conference for a while now, not good enough for the playoffs and not bad enough for a great lottery pick. It’s resulted in a team that’s aiming at nothing in particular.

Chicago Bulls accused of being ‘all-in on nothing’

The Chicago Bulls landed in the “all-in on nothing” tier by ESPN insiders Tim Bontemps and Kevin Pelton. They were there, fittingly, alongside the Sacramento Kings, Toronto Raptors, and New Orleans Pelicans, all teams without much direction.

“It’s difficult to see which way these four franchises are headed,” they argued. “In Chicago, the offseason saw the Bulls extend lead front office executives Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley as well as coach Billy Donovan.”

However, they’ve made the playoffs just once and have won only one playoff game over the past eight years. “[They] have repeatedly failed to extract draft pick value out of trades for veterans (Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine) in the past year,” the ESPN insiders added. “One light at the end of the tunnel in Chicago: plenty of cap space next summer.”

That’s more than the other three teams can say. The Bulls are still aimless, though. Out of all the tiers Pelton and Bontemps came up with, this one is the worst. The other teams can at least say they’re building something with high draft picks or can expect to make the playoffs routinely. The Bulls haven’t done either in a long time.

Chicago Bulls

After this offseason, it’s unclear when the Bulls are going to move out of this tier. They went 39-43 last season and flamed out of the NBA Play-In Tournament in one game. Then, they re-signed one player, are about to re-sign another (Josh Giddey), and traded Lonzo Ball for Isaac Okoro. It’s the same team that failed last year, although the East is much more open in 2025-26 than it was last season, so maybe the Bulls will be better by default.

Chicago Bulls net another bad grade for 2025 offseason

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) reacts with center Nikola Vucevic (9) during the first half against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum. Sports

The Chicago Bulls have been ripped apart by the NBA media this offseason for the work (or lack thereof) they’ve put in. Add another to that list, as one NBA insider gave them a D+ grade and said things do not look good for the future of this franchise.

NBA insider destroys Chicago Bulls’ offseason

The Chicago Bulls got a D+ grade from The Athletic, with Joel Lorenzi summing up why. That is the second-worst grade in the entire NBA. The only team that had a worse offseason was the New Orleans Pelicans, who got a barely worse D grade.

This is largely because, as Lorentzi put it, “Chicago still hasn’t committed to a rebuild: Call when hell gets chilly.” Fans wanted some sort of sign of progress after yet another middling year in which the Bulls crashed out of the Play-In Tournament and fell in the top section of the lottery. They didn’t get it.

“The Bulls responded this summer by extending coach Billy Donovan and dealing away Lonzo Ball without receiving any draft capital,” Lorenzi said. “Perhaps Noa Essengue could bloom into a starter. Perhaps Isaac Okoro becomes rejuvenated in Chicago. But those things hinge on the promise of internal development.”

A lot of Chicago’s growth depends on whether or not this current team can get better. They would need Matas Buzelis to make a leap, which he very well might. They’d need Josh Giddey, once he is officially re-signed, to build upon his good finish to the year and prove he can be an impact player on a good team.

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers with guard Josh Giddey (3) during the second half at United Center.

The Bulls would need Noa Essengue to be a hidden gem that becomes a starter-level player sooner rather than later, and they’d need some aging players, like Nikola Vucevic, to stave off the regression that’s surely coming for at least a little while longer.

That’s a lot of things that could go either way, which is far from exciting from a fan perspective, as Lorenzi mentioned. The Bulls did very little this offseason, and most of it was just running in place. That doesn’t bode well for the future.

Chicago Bulls unveil 2025-26 NBA Statement jerseys

Chicago Bulls Statement Edition Matas Buzelis 1

The Chicago Bulls had some big news on Tuesday regarding the 2025-26 season, coming in the form of their newest uniform.

For the 2025-26 season, the Bulls will bring back the pinstripes for their statement jerseys, the third edition of the jerseys. These pay homage to the 90’s classic that was worn a few times in the history of the franchise, and gets a modern touch to it.

Chicago Bulls bring back the pinstripes

Chicago Bulls Statement Edition Front

Bulls Statement Edition Front

Featuring a black base and, notably, bringing back iconic red pinstripes, the design is inspired by the jerseys worn by the team from 1995-97, 2007-08 and 2012-13. It iterates on the ’90s classic with modern details, including a new waistband, neck and arm piping, an insert on the shorts, stars added to the waistband and Chicago text on the front. This marks the third-ever Bulls Statement Edition jersey throughout the organization’s nearly 60-year history.

To commemorate the launch of this jersey, the Bulls collaborated with Dennis Rodman, a Bulls legend, member of the inaugural Ring of Honor class and street style and fashion icon. Rodman is featured in the campaign alongside current players Coby White and Matas Buzelis. Fans can see the jersey styled on billboards in Chicago’s Lakeview, Lincoln Park and Greektown neighborhoods.

Chicago Bulls insiders debate Matas Buzelis’ All-Star chances

NBA: Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls don’t necessarily have a superstar, but they could have an All-Star in the making. The roster doesn’t have anyone who is really set to contend for an All-Star team now, but a leap from Matas Buzelis could change that.

Chicago Bulls insiders believe Matas Buzelis could contend for an All-Star team in 2025-26

Matas Buzelis had a solid rookie season. His overall numbers are mediocre, averaging fewer than nine points and less than five combined rebounds and assists, but he finished well and looked at times like a future star. The potential is there.

Chicago Bulls insider David Haugh noted that Buzelis appears to have put some work in in the weight room over the offseason, saying that he looks bigger and stronger for year two in the NBA. Kendall Gill added, “He does, and like I said, he wants to build off of last year. I think he could possibly, it wouldn’t surprise me if it came out this year, and we were talking about him making an All-Star team.”

Gill said it all comes down to “how hard he works,” so effort level won’t be an issue in getting Buzelis to that level. “I’ve seen him since he was a little kid, I know how hard he works, I know how bad he wants it. He’s the future of this franchise, I’m just glad we got him,” the former NBA player added.

Gabe Ramirez chimed in that if he’s “dunking on people and knocking down threes,” then it would certainly not be a surprise if Buzelis earned All-Star buzz. However, it would take a sizeable leap in 2025-26 to get Buzelis in. Even in the East, there’s a ton of talent. Players averaging over 25 points per game last year were left off, so Buzelis would need to be really special.

He’d need to more than double his scoring output, and doubling his assists and rebounds would go a long way, too. The 45% shooting mark he had in year one would be fine, but it’s going to take a Herculean effort on other fronts to get him to the All-Star Game. The Rising Stars game might be a little easier for him.

Hall of Fame guard reveals intention to join Chicago Bulls in 2010

NBA: Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls had a really good team in the 2010s, but they nearly had an all-time roster with Dwyane Wade on board. The guard was a potential signing for the Bulls in free agency, but he ended up staying with the Heat and joining forces with LeBron James instead.

Dwyane Wade confirms plan to join Chicago Bulls in 2010

Dwyane Wade wanted to join the Chicago Bulls. He said as much. That’s not how his foray into free agency in 2010 played out, but it was his plan going into it.

Wade said on The OGs podcast, “I was like, ‘Man, I’m going back home. I’m going back to Chicago.’ I played seven years here, I won a championship, it’s time. For me, that was my mentality going into free agency outside of Miami, of course, Miami was still in there for me. But I got that call, man. I got that call from number six.”

LeBron James joined forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami in 2010 to form the superteam known as the Heatles. It’s obviously hard to turn down James when he wants to come join your team, but Wade had plans to link up with prime Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, and Joakim Noah to form a different superteam.

Wade admitted that it caught him by surprise, adding that he never thought about playing with James, only against him. The next step was another call with himself, James, and their agents, who revealed that the Heat had built up enough room to get three stars (which turned into Bosh), and that sealed the deal.

Wade enjoyed a couple of NBA Finals wins with James and Bosh in Miami, something he might’ve also enjoyed had he stuck with his plan and gone to Chicago, as they were one of the better teams in the East and actually had a better record than Wade, James, and Bosh’s Heat team in 2010-11.

NBA: Toronto Raptors at Chicago Bulls

Rose’s eventual injury would hamper the Bulls, but in his healthy prime, a duo of him and Wade in the backcourt would’ve rivaled the best the NBA had. Wade did eventually play for the Bulls, but that was in 2016-17 when he wasn’t in his prime. He averaged 18.3 points and was off to the Cleveland Cavaliers the following season.

Chicago Bulls analysts, fans discuss iconic jersey’s 2025-26 return

NBA: Chicago Bulls at New Orleans Pelicans

The Chicago Bulls officially brought back the iconic pinstripe jerseys for their 2025-26 statement series. It will be one of their prominent alternates. These jerseys have long been associated with some of the best Bulls teams in the past, and now, they’re being brought back to the future.

Chicago Bulls insiders talk pinstripe jersey return

Chicago Bulls Statement Edition Front

Chicago Bulls Statement Edition Front

The Chicago Bulls may have had a pretty quiet offseason, but adding the iconic pinstripe jersey back into the rotation for 2025-26 was a loud move. It is one that got several team insiders excited about the upcoming season.

CHSN’s Cam Smith shared his thoughts on the statement jerseys:

“You can’t go wrong with a classic. The thing about the Bulls pinstripe jersey… is that it looks great on the court and it looks great off the court. You have dual wears for that jersey. I think that’s one of the marks of a great design and a great jersey.”

Gabe Ramirez added that he’s certain this jersey will be very popular at Lollapalooza this year.:

“Listen, I’ve seen other black jerseys with the lighter pinstripes, those are kind of cool. I’ve gotten into a couple of arguments with friends [because] the pinstripes are there, but everyone’s thinking back to the original red ones in the ’90s. These aren’t necessarily those, but these are classics!”

David Haugh of 670 The Score laughed at the fact that the Bulls somehow got Dennis Rodman to be part of the marketing by posing in one of the new jerseys. Matas Buzelis and Coby White also showed them off. They all agreed that it had to have been someone in a high place, but it also speaks to the quality of the jerseys.

The pinstripe jerseys were most famous in 1995-97, 2007-08, and 2012-13, but the newest version mixes in the classic design and some modern elements, too. A first look at the jersey in person will happen at Bulls Fest on August 23 and 24. This one will also be available for purchase beginning Wednesday, October 15, at 10 a.m. CDT online and in the Fan Shop at the arena.

Chicago Bulls fans love the jerseys as well

It’s not just the analysts that love the jerseys, either. Fans are overwhelmingly very happy that the team is making this change. It’s one of the most exciting things to happen to this fan base in a very long time. They also went on social media to say how glad they are. A few even joked that the Bulls aren’t good enough right now to wear such incredible jerseys.

One said these were the best uniforms in the entire NBA. Another was surprised to see that the Bulls did something very well. There were plenty of reactions like this fan’s, which included the flame emoji to signify how excellent the uniforms are. Another X account joked that this significantly improves the offseason grade, too. Overall, this was a huge success for the Bulls, and they haven’t even worn the jerseys yet.

Chicago Bulls insider believes Isaac Okoro will be a “fan favorite”

Chicago Bulls: Isaac Okoro

Earlier this offseason, the Chicago Bulls acquired Isaac Okoro from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade that sent Lonzo Ball the other way. While Ball arrived in Chicago with high expectations when he joined the franchise in 2021, injuries kept him from delivering on that promise. Now, the Bulls are turning to Okoro, a 2020 lottery pick whose role faded in Cleveland, as their next hopeful spark on both ends of the court.

The Chicago Sports Network Bulls insider Cam Smith said Okoro was intended to be an “instant fan favorite” while discussing with another insider, K.C. Johnson, on the “By the Horns” platform. Okoro’s transition to the Bulls was seen as a fresh start, with high expectations for his impact on the team, particularly in defensive schemes, as noted by the analysts who believe his playing style aligns with what Chicago Bulls fans appreciate.

Last season, Okoro averaged a career-low 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, and saw his minutes dip from 27.3 (2023-24) to 19.1 per game across 55 games (22 starts). His playing time was squeezed as the Cavs leaned more on chemistry and offensive rhythm, leaving Okoro sidelined in crucial moments and reducing his impact on both ends of the court.

But turning a new chapter in Chicago, Okoro offers the Bulls elite physicality and two-way presence that fits Billy Donovan’s system. He brings athleticism, perimeter defense and improving three-point shooting (hitting 37.1% in 2024‑25). With the Bulls now turning to their younger core, Okoro is expected to earn significant minutes in the upcoming season, giving him the chance to showcase his defensive versatility and earn a larger role with the franchise.

‘Multiple teams’ have reached out to Chicago Bulls G Josh Giddey: Report

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) in the second half against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

A championship contender from the Western Conference is interested in adding Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Josh Giddey to their roster for the upcoming season.

Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Golden State Warriors are one of “multiple teams” who have reached out to Giddey’s camp this summer.

“I can report that there have been multiple teams who have reached out to Josh Giddey’s representation about having interest in Josh Giddey,” Fischer said. “Golden State is one of them. Golden State would be interested, depending on how the machinations could go… “(The Warriors) still have interest in Giddey, generally speaking.”

The Warriors had Giddey on their radar before the draft in 2021. However, the guard went to the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 6.

No Josh Giddey sign-and-trade coming for the Chicago Bulls

Following the first half of Fischer’s report, my mind immediately went to hoping Chicago could pull off a sign-and-trade. Unfortunately, that isn’t on the table.

“But I also have been told that no matter what team it is, of the group that has reached out to Giddey’s representation, about being interested in a sign and trade scenario. There is not a lot of enthusiasm from these rival teams about calling the Bulls’ front office and working out a sign-and-trade.”

Giddey is currently trying to seek a deal near $30 million. While the Bulls think he’s worth closer to $20-22 million.

Chicago is in no rush to extend Giddey right now. Even if teams are interested, they’re unlikely to sign the 22-year-old to a better contract than what Chicago can do.

Chicago Bulls may not be as bad as you think, one insider says

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White (0) celebrates his three point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers

The Chicago Bulls have been brutally criticized for an aimless offseason, but the latest Power Rankings suggest they’re not as bad as it seems. The roster is not teeming with superstars, but re-signing Josh Giddey will give them a good enough talent base to be competitive with most teams again in 2025-26.

Chicago Bulls avoid disaster in Power Rankings

The Chicago Bulls landed 20th in the NBA Power Rankings from Bleacher Report insider Andy Bailey, but that ranking isn’t as bad as it seems. The analysis was pretty positive, which is a bit different from most of the discussion of the Bulls this offseason.

“There’s a hint of uncertainty around the Bulls, thanks to the fact that Josh Giddey remains unsigned. But without any real cap space, the restricted free agent is likely to return,” Bailey said. While Giddey doesn’t change the team, keeping him does avoid a major talent loss from last year to this.

But that reunion will provide Chicago with the talent it needs to compete. “And when he was on the floor with Coby White, Kevin Huerter, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic (the starting five over the closing kick of the season), Chicago had a comfortably positive point differential,” he added.

That five-man unit for the Bulls was pretty solid, and bringing Giddey back means they can once again have at least a competitive unit to roll out next year. “That doesn’t necessarily mean that lineup will outscore its opponents again, but there’s at least some reason for optimism with Giddey’s playmaking and plenty of shooting around it,” Bailey concluded.

Plus, Giddey seemed to really round into form after the All-Star break. He played much better in the second half, so there’s reason to assume that the 22-year-old guard hasn’t hit his ceiling just yet. He could get even better and make the Bulls a little better, too.

So while they’re still the 20th-ranked team in the NBA and a team that hasn’t exactly set itself up for the future very well, the Bulls do have some reasons for optimism heading into the immediate future.

Recent champion has shown interest in Chicago Bulls’ RFA Josh Giddey

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Golden State Warriors

The Chicago Bulls have so far been the only team that wants to have Josh Giddey. That may have officially changed. The Golden State Warriors have reportedly entered the fray, though they would have to go through the sign-and-trade channel to get the 22-year-old guard. Still, this is the first team to show much interest outside of Chicago.

Chicago Bulls have competition for Josh Giddey

The Golden State Warriors, champions in 2022, have expressed interest in Josh Giddey, the Chicago Bulls’ RFA. However, they have their own issues with a restricted free agent in Jonathan Kuminga, a player they don’t seem to want back too badly.

Chicago does want Giddey back, but not at the cost he has in mind. They want to bring him back on a cheaper, team-friendly deal. That was likely given the lack of interest, but this new report might change things for everyone involved.

According to a report, the Warriors want Giddey, but they’re not willing to send Buddy Hield or Moses Moody to Chicago in a sign-and-trade. They are, however, willing to send Kuminga, effectively putting an end to the sagas for both RFA players who have had a really awful foray into free agency.

“Golden State values both players quite highly, sources say, while maintaining high expectations for both Hield and Moody to be consistent contributors who prove reliable in providing the necessary spacing to boost the Warriors’ half-court offense in the postseason,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said.

Because of their unwillingness to include the two players, Fischer doesn’t see this as a likely outcome for the two sides. “The Warriors’ refusal to entertain the prospect of surrendering Hield or Moody in those circumstances are among the prime reasons that it’s difficult to envision Golden State and Chicago ever finding common ground on a sign-and-trade construction that features Kuminga and Giddey switching teams,” he added.

Chicago still has all the leverage, though. They’d have to agree to a worthwhile sign-and-trade. They can also just outright sign him. Other teams can, too, but then a team would have to push the envelope so far that the Bulls aren’t willing to match. Only the Brooklyn Nets can feasibly do that at this time.

Fischer also reported that sign-and-trade scenarios are not really of interest to the Bulls, who do want to sign Giddey back and not have him leave for another team, even in a trade.

Roster Shake-Up: Game-Changing Acquisitions for the Chicago Bulls in 2025-26

NBA: Play In Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have been, at several times, one of the most successful teams in the NBA. However, the 2024-25 season was marked by inconsistency that resulted in a middling record of 39 wins to 43 losses. In the 2025 off-season so far the team has made several key changes in personnel, and more may be on the way. This is what you need to know about the main moves, and how the Bulls are shaping up for the start of the new season.

The Bulls’ 24/25 was a season of two halves. The team managed to keep the ball well throughout the season, ranking second in possessions across the whole league. But they struggled to turn that into points, with an overall offensive rating of 114.1 – putting them 20th out of 30 teams on attacking metrics.

The second half did pick up steam, with young players like Josh Giddey and Coby White increasing their value significantly after some strong showings. But it wasn’t enough to get the team into the playoffs, failing to make it for three seasons in a row. This year, the team is looking to make substantial investments in rebuilding. These are the big moves.

The Key Additions are Shaping Up

As of writing this, the Bull have signed three players in the offseason.

  • Isaac Okoro
  • Noa Essengue (Draft Pick #12)
  • Lachlan Olbrich (Draft Pick #55)

Okoro was acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers in an exchange for the talented but often-injured Lonzo Ball. Okoro is an exciting, young and athletic forward – although at 6″4 he is one of the shortest members on the Bulls’ current roster.

Noa Essengue is a dynamic young forward with fluid ball control and a large arm span. However, at 18 years old and 198 lbs, the Frenchman may need to bulk out his lean 6″9 frame to really get going in the super-competitive NBA.

Signed by the Bulls as Draft Pick #55 was Australian Lachlan Olbrich. The Bulls originally planned to go in for Rocco Zikarsky, but traded the rights to his contract to the Minnesota Timberwolves and picked up Obrich instead.

Obrich is a tall, heavy-set big man who scouts say has a strong basketball IQ and defensive versatility. However, he is not currently a high usage player and needs to up his game involvement to shine in the NBA.

Existing New Prospects Could Come Good

Neither of these signings is likely to swing NBA betting odds by themselves. However, top sportsbooks price in more than individual signings. The Bulls’ also have some exciting new talent that could swing the odds in your favor, especially if you take advantage of the top sportsbooks’ promotions and offers to boost your edge.

Although it isn’t a new addition, signing Josh Giddey on a permanent long-term contract is looking to be a priority for the Bulls in the offseason. In 24/25 the young Australian became the first Bulls player since Michael Jordan to break more than five triple doubles in a single season. But with interest mounting from other teams, the Bulls will be looking to lock him down quickly.

Rookie Matas Buzelis could also have a breakout year if he progresses well. The young Lithuanian-American forward benefitted from Williams’ continued slump to get more minutes than expected in his debut season, showing promise as he grew into the league.

Departures Signal a Shakeup of the Core Team

General Manage Marc Eversley suggested that 2024-25 was a step back to “reposition and retool” the team, with meaningful progress expected in 2026 and 2027.

To that end, expect several departures as well as new incomings. Speculation is the Bulls will try to end the 2025-26 season with a significant amount under the NBA salary cap, enabling them to move for a big name player in next offseason.

Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball have both left already this season, to the Sacramento Kings and the Cleveland Cavaliers respectively.

Also possibilities to depart are veteran big man Nikola Vucevic and the recently underachieving Patrick Williams. Both play in positions impacted by the signings of Essuenge and Okoro, and both have been key parts of the recent underwhelming Bulls’ seasons.

Vucevic is apparently being closely monitored by the Los Angeles Lakers, although the current official team line is he will not be traded.

Meanwhile Williams has also been the subject of trade talk. Utah Jazz centre Rudy Golbert and RJ Barret of The Toronto Raptors have apparently been considerations, with Vucevic also mentioned as being on the line.

If Williams stays on his big contract, he will be required to prove himself in a potentially more bit part role if he is to see a renewal in the future.

Staff Remained Mostly Stable, Ownership Confident

Chicago Bulls GM

Front office for the Bulls has remained mostly the same, signalling ownership are mostly positive with the team’s outlook and progress. Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Artūras Karnišovas and GM Eversley both had their contracts extended.

Both have expressed satisfaction and ongoing support with head coach Billy Donovan. While the team’s performance has remained middling, Donovan’s attacking style has made matches more exciting and kept fans engaged.

However, on the coaching staff side, some players were reportedly not happy with the recent firing of shooting coach and Director of Player Development Peter Patton.

According to the Chicago Sun Times one player said that Patton “the real deal” and was shocked at his unceremonious departure.

Off-court the Bulls’ match attendance also continued to shine. The team brought in 825,659 fans over the season for 1st place in the NBA attendance rankings.

The Overall Outlook Uncertain

The Bulls 9th place finish in the Eastern Conference last year, and a transitional off-season, suggests a team that could push on for playoff spots or might fall into another middling season.

The off-season has seen what could be season-long injuries to key players on rival teams, such as the Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton, the Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and the Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard (who may even be retiring).

This could open up some space for other teams, if the top favorites in the conference start the season on a wobble. However, the Bulls are going through a self-admitted transition period, so they might not be the best placed to capitalize.

If young prospect signings can come good, or Williams has an unexpected resurgence to his past high ceiling, anything is possible. But overall 2025-26 looks likely to be a rebuilding season for the Chi-town team, with an aim to progress towards the top of the Conference in 2026-27.

Chicago Bulls analyst vetoes any trade idea for Josh Giddey

Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have so far not found a resolution to the negotiations with Josh Giddey, prompting ideas of alternative solutions. That includes a sign-and-trade with some team, perhaps the Golden State Warriors, who are having their own issues with an RFA. One Bulls insider doesn’t like that, or any, trade idea for Giddey.

Chicago Bulls insider says he doesn’t like any Josh Giddey trades

The Golden State Warriors reportedly considered a sign-and-trade with Jonathan Kuminga for Josh Giddey, thereby solving the problems both teams have with their restricted free agents. One insider doesn’t like that idea or any other involving a trade.

Stacey King said, “You got all these different trade proposals. ‘Bulls are going to trade Giddey for Kuminga.’ I’m vetoing that. Sending Giddey anywhere, to me, for a kid that young that has such a huge upside. He is going to be a very good player in this league, whether he’s playing for the Bulls or anywhere [else].”

King added that the Bulls do not want to be in “regret mode” with Giddey, especially after trading Alex Caruso for him. They did not get any picks in the deal, so all they got for a valuable role player was Giddey, so keeping him is key. He doesn’t want to see the Bulls give up on Giddey over “a couple million dollars here and there.”

“At the end of the day,” King said, “This guy’s a walking triple-double. There’s not too many guys in this league that can say that, that you can say every single night is going to be floating around with a triple-double.” The Bulls don’t have a player like that other than Giddey, so King believes they should not lose him to free agency or sign-and-trades.

What will happen with Giddey remains to be seen. Reportedly, Chicago offered four years and $80 million, but Giddey declined. There are other options to move forward, most of which involve Giddey remaining with the Bulls, but King really doesn’t want to see them explore any option that sends the guard elsewhere.

Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey sit $10 million apart: Insider

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3) gestures after making a three point basket against the Miami Heat during the second half at United Center.

Since the start of the NBA offseason, the one question surrounding the Chicago Bulls has been, Will they re-sign Josh Giddey and for how much? Giddey, by all accounts, is seeking a $30 million a year deal, similar to or in the same ballpark as Jalen Suggs of the Orlando Magic, who signed a five-year contract worth $150.5 million.

The Bulls can pay that amount and match any team willing to take a shot on Giddey, but would prefer to sign him to a deal that doesn’t break the bank. Still unsigned, it looks like the Bulls and Giddey are still a ways away, according to an NBA Insider.

NBA Insider still says the Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey are $10 million apart

It seems like the Bulls and Giddey won’t agree on a contract anytime soon, but a new development has popped up, which shows how far apart the two sides are. According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, the Bulls offered Giddey a four-year contract worth $80 million, which would pay him $20 million a year, $10 million off his asking price of $30 million.

“League sources say that the Bulls made an offer of $80 million over four years to restricted free agent Josh Giddey when the offseason commenced on June 30,” Fischer said. Giddey, of course, is seeking an annual salary in the $30 million range. Chicago has been anchored in the $20 million range in annual value ever since its original offer.”

Fischer also reports that other teams in the Eastern Conference have shown interest in Giddey, with some going as far as to contact his agent to gauge the interest of a sign-and-trade. Fischer does pour a little cold water on that, however, reporting that the Bulls have been uninterested in discussing that.

“Sources say Giddey has managed to attract some external interest from rival teams since free agency began, with multiple Eastern Conference teams contacting Giddey’s representation to register sign-and-trade interest,” Fischer said.

“Yet it’s likewise true that more than one rival front office has indicated a reluctance to try to engage the Bulls in sign-and-trade discussions, sources say, with Chicago having messaged for some time that it is not eager to discuss such scenarios,” Fischer added.”

The Bulls and Giddey need to meet in the middle

If the Bulls and Giddey are $10 million apart, and with some pressure from other teams, they need to meet in the middle and sign him to a contract that pays him $25 million as an annual salary. Giddey is one of the better up-and-coming players in the NBA, but he’s not at the level of someone like Suggs, given that he still struggles with turning the basketball over.

Averaging 2.9 turnovers a game last season and having the second-most turnovers for his career with 202, Giddey needs to show some improvement there to get paid top dollar. Hopefully, the Bulls and Giddey can reach an agreement soon and get to work with Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue.

Why one Chicago Bulls player would make a good podcast host

NBA: Draft Noa Essengue

The Chicago Bulls have a lot of interesting personalities on their roster right now, but one would arguably make the best podcast host. According to an NBA analyst, rookie Noa Essengue would be an ideal member of the team to pick up a mic for one specific reason.

Chicago Bulls rookie earns weird superlative

Noa Essengue, according to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, would make the best podcast host among all members of the Chicago Bulls. Why? So he could dish on that infamous dunk and reshape the narrative around him.

“The only thing anybody knows about Noa Essengue is that he got meme-dunked into oblivion by Johnny Furphy during Summer League,” Hughes said. “If nothing else, podcasts allow their hosts and subjects to reshape narratives. Essengue could use the platform to shift the conversation away from his posterization.”

Essengue is one of the lesser-known entities in the NBA. He’s an international rookie who wasn’t top-of-the-class like some other previous international prospects, so NBA fans don’t know much about him other than his being on the receiving end of a brutal Summer League dunk.

Hughes went on, “For example, were you aware that the teenaged rookie can solve a Rubik’s cube in under 20 seconds? Or that he has perfect pitch and can hum an on-key imitation of any sound he hears? He’s also an accomplished baker and amateur cartographer.”

Hughes jokingly admitted that “none of those things are true,” but that they could be. “That’s how easy it’d be for Essengue to take control of his story, expanding it beyond a single snapshot he’d rather forget,” the writer said.

Essengue could be great at a random skill. He could be able to solve puzzles in record time. Maybe he’s a renowned chess player. These are all things that nobody would really know about Essengue until he revealed them, and in Hughes’ eyes, a podcast is the perfect avenue for that. His mysterious nature makes him an untapped reservoir for content, which is ideal in the podcast age.
