When I was at the first Bengals training camp practice, I shook Dylan Fairchild’s hand when he came over to engage with fans. Let me tell you, the Bengals’ offensive line could be in much better hands with him protecting Joe Burrow.

Dylan Fairchild

  • Height: 6-5
  • Weight: 318 lbs.
  • Age: 22
  • College: Georgia
  • Hometown: Cumming, Ga.
  • Experience: Rookie

Cap Status

Fairchild is under contract for the next four seasons with the Bengals, which will be the first four seasons of his career. His contract is worth up to $6,421,180, including $1,309,948 signing bonus, $1,309,948 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,605,295.

In 2025, according to Spotrac, Fairchild will earn a base salary of $760,000 and a signing bonus of $1,309,948, while carrying a cap hit of $1,087,487 and a dead cap value of $1,309,948.

Background

The second former Georgia Bulldog on the Bengals’ offensive line, Fairchild played in 34 games with 24 starts in four seasons with the Bulldogs. A member of both of Georgia’s national championship teams in 2021 and 2022, he became a regular starter the following season and was part of a Georgia offensive line that led the SEC and ranked seventh in the country with 0.93 sacks allowed per game.

In addition, the Bulldogs also ranked second in the SEC and fifth in the country with 496.5 yards per game.

The #Bengals open camp in 17 days. I’m counting down with a daily observation:
Dave Lapham is bullish on third-round pick Dylan Fairchild.
“His pad level is really good,” Lap said.
“Youth and lack of injury is part of it, but some guys are never able to bend like he can bend.” pic.twitter.com/W2aHpjr5jd

— Dan Hoard (@Dan_Hoard) July 7, 2025

This past season, Fairchild made a national name for himself by earning Second-Team All-American honors and First-Team All-SEC by the AP. He started all 14 games for the Bulldogs, including the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff Quarterfinals at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and helped the Bulldogs rank third in the SEC with 281.0 net passing yards per game.

Fairchild and Bengals right tackle Amarius Mims were teammates at Georgia from 2021-2023.

An All-American at West Forsyth High School, Fairchild was selected to the 2021 All-American Bowl and helped his team rush for over 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games.

In addition to football, Fairchild also has a 67-0 wrestling record and won back-to-back Georgia state titles in the Class 7A heavyweight division.

Outlook for 2025

Fairchild has been consistently taking reps with the first-team offensive line since training camp started. He’s been lined up at left guard, a position that has been manned by Cordell Volson for the last three seasons.

It’s clear that Fairchild has the attention of the Bengals’ coaching staff and is going to be a major candidate to start up front in Week 1. Take this quote from offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher:

“To me, it’s a blend of stoutness, power, ability to anchor versus power, and the ability to re-direct laterally with quickness. There’s a lot of explosive, twitchy interior rushers in our league, so you have to have that appropriate blend of strength and lateral mobility. We believe Dylan has both those things in spades.”

5. Rookie Dylan Fairchild is getting the starter’s reps at LG.
“He’s got some pretty freaky physical traits and that’s a good starting point to becoming a good pro,” said Dan Pitcher. “That’s certainly not the only thing you need, and we think he’s got the other stuff too.” pic.twitter.com/zW4AlPd57K

— Dan Hoard (@Dan_Hoard) July 24, 2025

If he starts on the offensive line in Week 1, Fairchild is ready to protect the Bengals’ franchise quarterback.

“It’s something that I’m going to live and die by every single day,” Fairchild said the night the Bengals drafted him in April. It’s the biggest honor of my life. And I’m just super excited to do it. Again, I’m gonna live by the sword and die by the sword and give my all every single day to do so.”

Jake Browning had maybe the worst QB performance in NFL preseason history vs. Eagles

Jake Browning throws football vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

Jake Browning has been entrenched as QB2 since his impressive run at the end of the 2023 season.

When the Cincinnati Bengals signed Desmond Ridder, it was apparently only to provide emergency depth.

However, after just one preseason game, the situation may have already changed.

Browning struggled on his way to just six completions on 14 attempts across seven possessions.

Those possessions resulted in four punts, a hideous interception, a field goal (after a 32-yard Jermaine Burton punt return and then no yards passing), and time running out at the end of the first half.

That's an interception for @P_JOHNSON7‼️ pic.twitter.com/EG5EYct2Yr

— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) August 8, 2025

But Browning was worse than the numbers would indicate. His passes were off target, and he’s fortunate he only ended up with one pick. He threw several more that were simply dropped by Eagles defenders.

Meanwhile, Ridder looked a little better, throwing a touchdown to Tanner Hudson to give the Bengals some life late in the fourth quarter.

To be clear, Browning has done far too much to deserve a demotion because of one terrible outing. But if this trend continues in the next game against the Washington Commanders, a conversation may need to be had.

Jermaine Burton and Joseph Ossai dealing with injuries

gettyimages-2185014252.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals had a bit of an issue during Saturday’s practice. Starting defensive end Joseph Ossai left practice with an injury.

It was later noted that Ossai could have returned to practice if needed, but the coaches and training staff wanted to play it safe. However, he was sidelined for Sunday’s practice, so this will be something to monitor.

Elsewhere, Jermaine Burton was curiously absent from Sunday’s practice. A team spokesman later confirmed that Burton suffered an undisclosed injury and is considered day-to-day.

Ossai being out means first-round pick Shemar Stewart is getting extended time practicing with the first team. That is a huge opportunity for the rookie playing from behind the eight ball in the competition at EDGE due to his contract dispute with the Bengals, causing him to miss all of minicamp and a few training camp practices.

We will have to see if this impacts how much Stewart we see mixed in with the starters going forward. He has had some exciting moments in practice and in the preseason game on Thursday.

When Stewart was drafted, it was anticipated that he would need some time to refine his technique, but that he had all the physical ability necessary to succeed at a high level. We will see if Cincinnati sticks to that script with Trey Hendrickson still unsigned.

As for Burton, he’s competing with Charlie Jones to return punts and kickoffs while also hoping to earn more snaps on offense. Burton’s absence means Jones will be getting more of those reps for the time being.

Cincinnati Bengals 53-man Roster Prediction: Preseason Week 2 edition

gettyimages-2229013610.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals played their first preseason game last Thursday, and we got our first look at the 2025 team, including the starters. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and the first-team offense scored twice on two drives and looked like they hadn’t skipped a beat. The defense and second-team offense? That was a different story.

Taking what we saw into account, here’s version No. 3 of our 53-man roster.

Version 1.0

Version 2.o

Quarterback (2)

  • Joe Burrow
  • Desmond Ridder

Notes: Jake Browning was really bad on Thursday night. I know it’s reactionary to say that one bad preseason performance is enough to undo some really great Browning moments we’ve had, including some in the regular season, but they signed Ridder for a reason.

Running Backs (3)

  • Chase Brown
  • Tahj Brooks
  • Samaje Perine

Notes: No changes here. The Bengals’ offense doesn’t need a fourth running back to “establish the run.” This is 2025, and Burrow is the team’s quarterback, and he’s got the best duo of wide receivers in the league.

Establish the run. Get out of here with that.

Tight Ends (4)

  • Mike Gesicki
  • Drew Sample
  • Noah Fant
  • Tanner Hudson

Notes: No changes here. Unless there’s some sort of injury, these four tight ends will be on the final roster. Hudson continues to prove himself, and Fant, Sample, and Gesicki are locks.

Wide Receivers (6)

  • Ja’Marr Chase
  • Tee Higgins
  • Andrei Iosivas
  • Jermaine Burton
  • Charlie Jones
  • Isaiah Williams

Notes: No changes here. The top five are locks, and I even toyed with the idea of leaving a sixth wide receiver off, but decided against it.

Offensive Line (10)

  • Orlando Brown Jr.
  • Dylan Fairchild
  • Ted Karras
  • Lucas Patrick
  • Amarius Mims
  • Cordell Volson
  • Cody Ford
  • Matt Lee
  • Seth McLaughlin
  • Jalen Rivers

Notes: A small change here, but it’s one that I’m excited about. McLaughlin would have been a Day 2 pick had he been healthy during draft season, but he was nursing an Achilles injury that ended up landing him in Cincinnati as an undrafted free agent. He’s going to be activated, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say he finds his way onto the final roster.

Defensive Line (10)

  • Trey Hendrickson
  • T.J. Slaton Jr.
  • B.J. Hill
  • Shemar Stewart
  • Joseph Ossai
  • Myles Murphy
  • Kris Jenkins Jr.
  • McKinnley Jackson
  • Cam Sample
  • Cedric Johnson

Notes: No changes here. Hopefully, the Bengals get a deal with Trey done soon.

Linebackers (5)

  • Logan Wilson
  • Demetrius Knight Jr.
  • Barrett Carter
  • Oren Burks
  • Joe Giles-Harris

Notes: Giles-Harris takes the final spot from Maema Njongmeta, but mostly contributes as a special teamer.

Cornerbacks (6)

  • Cam Taylor-Britt
  • D.J. Turner
  • Dax Hill
  • Josh Newton
  • DJ Ivey
  • Marco Wilson

Notes: No changes here, though the last couple of spots are available for someone who wants to prove he belongs in the league.

Safety (4)

  • Geno Stone
  • Jordan Battle
  • Tycen Anderson
  • Daijahn Anthony

Notes: No changes here, but if the front office were smart, they’d look to bring in some help with Stone’s injury.

Special Teams (3)

  • Evan McPherson
  • Ryan Rehkow
  • Cal Adomitis

Notes: No changes here.

Bengals offensive line ripped for failing to protect Joe Burrow

gettyimages-2228239110.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals are in the second week of the 2025 preseason as they prepare to bounce back from an embarrassing 9-8 finish, despite their top-tier offense, which kept them out of the playoffs for the second year in a row. In their first preseason outing against the Eagles, Burrow and the rest of the first-team offense looked like they hadn’t missed a beat, and the quarterback seems poised for an MVP season.

Folks around the league obviously see what Bengals fans all over the world see in Burrow, as 50 NFL coaches and executives have unanimously ranked him as a top-tier quarterback. In fact, according to Mike Sando, he is tied with Patrick Mahomes as the best quarterback in the league.

“This is Burrow’s fourth consecutive season in Tier 1 and his first as a unanimous top-tier selection,” Sando wrote. “Rodgers (six), Mahomes (five), Tom Brady (four), and Russell Wilson (one) are the only other unanimous Tier 1 selections in the survey’s history.”

One offensive coach even knocked the Bengals for how they’ve protected him.

“Burrow could be a 1 with a red cross on him. They don’t protect him, and he gets the s*** knocked out of him constantly,” the anonymous coach said.

Jay Morrison pointed out that Burrow is the second-most sacked quarterback in the league, behind Russell Wilson and slightly ahead of Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert, and Daniel Jones. Since the 2020 season, he’s the fifth-most hit quarterback behind Wilson, Herbert, Kirk Cousins, and Patrick Mahomes.

The Bengals cut Alex Cappa, restructured Cordell Volson’s contract, signed Lucas Patrick, and drafted Dylan Fairchild this offseason to attempt to stabilize the guard position, which caused the majority of the issues in 2024. While some fans, and at least one coach, don’t believe they’ve done enough, Burrow has done amazing things with much less (see the Super Bowl offensive line in 2021).

Hopefully, some combination of Lucas Patrick, Dylan Fairchild, Cody Ford, or Volson can give Burrow the protection he needs from the interior of the offensive line, which, in turn, gives him time to find one of his ridiculously talented receivers down the field. If not, he’ll likely do it anyway, but he’ll just get the snot knocked out of him while he’s doing it.

Bengals Training Camp: Tuesday Twitter recap and highlights

imagn-26707314.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals were back on the practice field Tuesday, in a high-energy practice that included extensive 11-on-11 work. Less than a week away from their second preseason game at the Washington Commanders, Zac Taylor turned up the intensity on Tuesday.

Burrow To Fant:

We got to see Joe Burrow connect with Noah Fant for a big gain over the middle during 11-on-11s. Fant is working his way into the fold and could see some preseason action next week.

Orlando Brown Jr. and Myles Murphy miss Wednesday practice

imagn-26819474.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals are dealing with the absence of two starters at Wednesday’s practice, as Orlando Brown Jr. and Myles Murphy missed practice.

Brown has not been reported to have any injury, so it could be a rest day for him.

Regardless, Cody Ford was taking the reps with the first-team at left tackle. Ford has been involved in the battle for the right guard with Lucas Patrick, but the Bengals clearly still value him as a swing tackle.

Brown will be a name to keep an eye on as the practice week continues, ahead of Monday night’s preseason matchup against the Washington Commanders. Starters are expected to play, so Brown will be a player to watch leading up to the contest.

Defensive end Myles Murphy also missed practice on Wednesday after limping off the field during Tuesday’s practice.

On Tuesday, Myles Murphy hobbled off during a play. He returned but the limp was notable. He is not out here today.

— Paul Dehner Jr. (@pauldehnerjr) August 13, 2025

Murphy being out opens the door for Shemar Stewart to potentially see more time with the starters, but with Joseph Ossai also working his way back from injury, the Bengals’ defensive end room is looking thin, as Trey Hendrickson is still involved in a hold-in.

These are just a couple of names to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
