The most notable things from the Bengals' second day of training camp.

Day 2 of training camp is here for the Cincinnati Bengals. Day 1 went to the defense as they came out hot. Can Joe Burrow get the offense on the right track on Day 2?

BJ Hill gets a Veterans Day and Myles Murphy carted off with possible heat related issue

This was the plan from the get-go as Hill recovers from his lower leg injury. They want to make sure they don't push him too hard and make anything worse.

Still, it is something to monitor as the season gets closer every day.

Myles Murphy just left practice early sitting on the back of a cart.

Was being looked at by trainer as he was walking away from individual drills.

It is a good sign that he was walking away. He also wouldn't have been the first player to have an issue with the heat, as Josh Newton went off needing water and to cool down before returning.

Still, when the cart comes ou,t it is always worth noting.

Burrow works on mobility

Two of Burrow's best traits are his ability to avoid the pass rush and his ability to deliver passes off-platform. You can see these drills highlight those two areas. One is working with dummies constantly getting their hands on and around him, and the other is practicing throwing off a bootleg towards his left.

Defensive changes

There’s a completely different approach toward teaching tackling. Instead of one specific drill for each position group, there’s a rotation where all the positions are doing all of the different drills. From defensive linemen working on tackling in space to safeties working on…

— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 24, 2025

After a poor day by the offense yesterday, Burrow started today with a shot play to Higgins. Cam Taylor-Britt stops it again on an incomplete pass.

— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 24, 2025

Much has been made about Cincinnati firing Lou Anarumo and bringing in Al Golden to coach the defense.

We don't know exactly how their schemes will vary, but we have seen so far that the defensive coaches have been mixing things up with the defensive drills they're running. Having defenders ready to make tackles from a variety of areas and situations seems like a positive change for a very young defense.

Highlights from Day 2

The defense is looking to get back to causing a lot of turnovers.

After three days of training camp for the Cincinnati Bengals, things are looking good.

The offense is humming along again, with Jermaine Burton continuing to get more involved.

Meanwhile, the defense is trying new things in hopes of jumpstarting that side of the ball.

Here are some of the key moments from Day 3:

Al Golden gets creative

The new defensive coordinator has been trying different approaches to improve a defense that disappointed last year.

In yesterday’s practice, Charlie Goldsmith reported that, in one rotation, Golden had all defensive players doing all of the different drills instead of just working on one specific to their position.

Today, Goldsmith added that Golden is using dodgeballs to help players get used to batting down passes. He is also having his unit refine their technique as far as causing turnovers.

Another new drill for the defense: The d line is working pre practice on batting down passes. They’re using dodgeballs. It’s a part of a new pre practice rotation that also includes picking up fumbles, strip sacking the QB and punching the ball out.

Jermaine Burton is making plays

While the second-year receiver’s talent was never in question, it is nice to see him focused and on the field catching touchdowns.

Big day for Jermaine Burton, following a nice day yesterday. He has two touchdowns in red zone work today. One in zone, one in man.

Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase are still amazing

And Chase made a nice one-handed grab.

Dax Hill holds back

The physical defensive back is looking to have a bounce-back year, though he made sure not to bounce Mike Gesicki too hard on this play.

Pretty physical thud, considering it’s helmets-only — Between Dax Hill & Mike Gesicki.#Bengals #TrainingCamp pic.twitter.com/TuOhRRZCz2

Geno Stone looks frisky

The safety who came over from the Baltimore Ravens because of his ability to disrupt passing offenses gave fans hope that he could return to form.

Injury news

Second-year tight end showed up to practice, even though he will miss the entire season with another ACL tear.

— James Rapien (@JamesRapien) July 25, 2025

Meanwhile, Lucas Patrick, who was in contention to be the starting center, suffered an injury that appears to be insignificant. Charlie Clifford reports that the veteran was already working through something before practice began.

Lucas Patrick left practice under his own power.

He started practice on the rehab field. Clearly trying to work through something entering today https://t.co/6NFElJaaIA

Chase makes play of the day

Yet another demonstration of why Ja’Marr Chase is simply the best in the business the footwork at the back of the end zone one-handed. pic.twitter.com/PjE9jbfikJ

— Mike Petraglia (@Trags) July 25, 2025

There are some new red zone ideas: more throws like the final TD on the road in Baltimore where Burrow drops the ball into a bucket in the back corner. Ja’Marr just made a one handed grab on the play of the day. Elite.

— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 25, 2025

Triple-crown winner Ja’Marr Chase made arguably the best play of camp so far.

Stay tuned for more training camp updates.
