The Bengals are in the middle of a couple of contract standstills with some big defensive stars and Jesse James Taylor gives his view of what’s going on.

While expectations are high for the Bengals in 2025, and they have re-signed a number of their core players this offseason, some issues are lingering. A couple of defensive stars in which the team was relying upon in 2025 have contractual issues to get ironed out.

Bengals uniforms ranked among the NFL’s best

Cincinnati Bengals v Pittsburgh Steelers

Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images

Look good, play good?

Nate Davis of USA Today ranked all uniforms in the NFL, and the Cincinnati Bengals came out near the top. Checking in at No. 8, Davis sees only seven teams with uniform styles better than the Bengals.

The orange and black striped helmet is arguably the best in the league, but adding the White Bengal look was something Davis highlighted.

“They earned beaucoup points (and their first Super Bowl berth) in 1981 when they stopped looking like Browns knock-offs – gross – and literally changed their stripes,” Davis said. “They’ve unnecessarily monkeyed with the jerseys and pants over the years and last season’s monochrome orange debut … nah. But the primary uniform is in a good place, and the white tiger alternates are as good as anyone’s – though that helmet doesn’t actually need to suddenly be mixed into other combinations.”

The Bengals debuted their current uniform in the 2021 season, a year after Joe Burrow’s arrival, and have added the White Bengal, an all-orange design, and orange pants over the last few years, giving them one of the more versatile packages in the league.

With the NFL adding in new alternate uniform slots, the Bengals could be adding even more looks in the near future.

Lemar Parrish, Dave Lapham to be added to Bengals Ring of Honor in 2025

Syndication: The Enquirer

The Enquirer/Ran Cochran via Imagn Content Services, LLC

Congratulations to them both!

On Wednesday morning, the Cincinnati Bengals announced the next two players who will be enshrined on their Ring of Honor will be former cornerback and return specialist Lemar Parrish and former offensive lineman and radio commentator Dave Lapham.

Parrish was a seventh-round pick in 1970 and made an immediate impact for the new franchise. He played for the Bengals for eight seasons before being traded to the Washington Commanders before the 1978 season. He stayed there through 1981 and played the 1982 season for the Bills before retiring.

He finished his career as a three-time First-Team All Pro, a two-time Second-Team All Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowler, with 47 interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries and 13 total touchdowns. He was named to the Bengals’ 40th and 50th Anniversary Teams and should probably be in the Hall of Fame.

“To be selected to join the Ring of Honor means the world to me,” Parrish said in a statement, per Jay Morrison. “As a little boy, I had a dream of becoming the greatest football player in the world. I thank the Bengals and Paul Brown for drafting me and giving me the opportunity to play in the NFL. I appreciate everyone who voted for me. I am pleased and extremely grateful to be selected. This is the most prestigious award that I have ever received, and it means a lot to me.”

The Bengals selected Lapham in the third round of the 1974 draft. He was the starting right guard in 1975 and the starting left guard, next to Anthony Muñoz, when the Bengals went to their first Super Bowl in 1981. He was also named to the Bengals’ 40th and 50th Anniversary Teams, and is likely most familiar to scores of young Bengals fans as the color commentator next to Dan Hoard in the booth for Bengals games on the radio.

“This is without a doubt the highest honor bestowed upon me—the honor of a lifetime,” Lapham said, per Morrison. “I think everyone knows what the Bengals organization means to me. It is extremely humbling to know that the fans selected me to be honored in this fashion. My family and I are extremely grateful to be inducted into the Ring of Honor. It feels like a superlative dream that I have not woken up from yet. I still can’t believe it.”

The ceremony will take place at halftime on the team’s October 26th matchup against the New York Jets in Paycor Stadium.

Congratulations to both Lemar Parrish and Dave Lapham!

Chad Johnson wants to mentor Mitchell Tinsley

imagn-26888555.jpg

Chad Johnson is a Cincinnati Bengals legend. Not just because of his elite level of play or his flashy celebrations.

He’s a legend because he’s been one of the most vocal supporters of the team since retiring from the NFL.

And now, Johnson wants to reach out to receiver Mitch Tinsley, who just received news he made the Bengals roster today, despite being a long shot on a roster that has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

You can watch the video of Tinsley getting the call from WR coach Troy Walters below:

WR Coach Troy Walters FaceTime to Mitch Tinsley letting him know he made the team 🥹 https://t.co/sJHyzFsekR

— Marisa Contipelli (@BengalsMarisa) August 26, 2025

A little later, Johnson posted this on X: “How do i get a Mitchell Tinsley jersey & his phone number so i can annoy him with random text messages at 3am like i do Chase & Higgins?”

How do i get a Mitchell Tinsley jersey & his phone number so i can annoy him with random text messages at 3am like i do Chase & Higgins❔

No doubt, there’s a lot Tinsley could learn from Johnson, who had some of the best footwork the league has ever seen.

Tinsley blew fans and quarterback Joe Burrow away with big-time catches in practice and the preseason game against the Washington Commanders.

Watch his best plays from this offseason below.

Today is one of the busiest days of the year in the NFL, as the Cincinnati Bengals and all other teams must have their 53-man rosters set by 4 pm ET.

Will the Bengals make any shocking cuts? Could we see the rare trade to acquire someone else before a team drops them?

This is an open thread that will be updated as we monitor the Bengals’ latest roster moves.

Below is today’s morning news:

Bengals give Trey Hendrickson big pay bump after hold-in

You probably didn’t miss it, but in case you did, the Bengals and Hendrickson put a one-year band-aid on their contract dispute.

Tuesday Trenches: Well…. Good Then

imagn-25116684.jpg

I had a whole Tuesday Trenches ready to go Sunday night. It wasn’t a cheerful one. The Bengals had gone bargain-bin shopping at guard, settling on Lucas Patrick, and it felt like the same old story: a glaring weakness at guard and a front office unwilling to spend what it takes to fix it.

That’s still a problem. As it stands, the Bengals may have to overpay Dalton Risner, who has set himself up for a bidding war, just to get a credible answer at the position. Otherwise, it’s Patrick, Cody Ford, or rookie Jalen Rivers. None of those options should leave Joe Burrow—or anyone else—sleeping soundly.

And then there was the defense. I had plenty written about Trey Hendrickson, and how the Bengals were on track to make 2025 a repeat of 2024 by letting their best defensive player twist in the wind.

Then Monday happened. The Bengals reached an agreement with Hendrickson, keeping him in Cincinnati for 2025 and giving themselves a chance to chase a Lombardi together—one last time.

Does that fix everything? No. But it changes the outlook.

Hendrickson doesn’t suddenly make the Bengals the Super Bowl favorite, but his presence keeps the defense from being a disaster. At worst, they’re mediocre with him—mediocre might be enough when paired with an offense that looks ready to score on every drive. If Burrow and the first-team offense look as sharp in September as they did in August, a playoff run is on the table.

I’m still not sold on the secondary. I don’t like the linebacker spot next to Logan Wilson. But with Hendrickson, there’s at least potential for the defensive front to elevate the whole unit.

The offense? They look ready. If Cincinnati can get out of September at .500 or better, they’ll avoid the hole that’s buried them in recent years. They promised to keep Chase, Higgins, and Hendrickson. And they did.

Are they a better team today than they were at the end of last year? Yes. Did they do enough to ensure a playoff berth or a deeper Super Bowl run? That’s the question still hanging over this roster.

We know this much: no one wanted to see the Bengals sneaking into the playoffs last year as the No. 7 seed, riding a five-game win streak, with Burrow and the offense rolling. That version of the Bengals scared people.

Now, Hendrickson’s back. The next time we see them in uniform, it’ll be in Cleveland, with a chance to start 2025 off the right way.

Finally, cuts are coming today. I’m expecting Mitchell Tinsley to make the final 53, It will be interesting to see how many running backs they keep as well as how many linebackers and defensive backs. Don’t be surprised if the Bengals take a look at some of the players cut around the league. That’s their style, another team’s trash, and all that.

Can you feel that? That was a weight lifted. It feels nice, doesn’t it?

It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

Poll: Who won the Trey Hendrickson contract negotiations?

imagn-26748007.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals finally got Trey Hendrickson back when the star pass rusher agreed to a one-year deal that gives him $14 million more in salary this year.

That’s a lot of money. But it doesn’t give Hendrickson any security beyond this season.

And next year, Hendrickson will be in his age 32 season, hardly the time to get a multi-year deal with a lot of guaranteed money, even though he’s shown no signs of slowing down.

Still, apparently Hendrickson would rather live with that risk than sign a long-term deal that didn’t guarantee him anything beyond the season.

So after all that drama, Hendrickson is kinda back where he started: under contract for one (last?) year.

It would seem that Katie Blackburn and company got exactly what they wanted: one more shot at a championship with an elite pass rusher minus the stress of potentially making a bad investment long-term.

And remember that Shemar Stewart said during his negotiations that the Bengals’ front office cares more about winning arguments than winning games.

Is that what happened here?

Podcast: And then there were 53

gettyimages-2229243640.jpg

It is a tale far too familiar for Bengals fans. The official end of the preseason and beginning of the regular season in Cincinnati occurs when a star player ends his holdout. Trey Hendrickson gets a big raise, and just like that preseason is over. It’s kind of like Groundhogs Day, but Punxsutawney Phil a much better against the run.

The other sign that training camp has ended is the cuts.

“And then there were 53”

If you see that as an Agatha Christie reference, we can be friends. If you see that as Seinfeld reference, we can still be friends, but you really pick up a book once in a while.

The Bengals have made their cuts and are down to their “final” roster. That is of course final until waiver claims go through, which depending on when you are reading this, may have already happened. If this is the case, what is the future like?

But I digress…

The Bengals have made their initial cuts and Matt and Willie have much to discuss.

  • Preseason darling Mitchell Tinsley has earned his stripes.
  • Matt Lee has made the team! This is not a drill people!
  • What’s the deal with keeping only 8 offensive linemen?
  • How did 2 UDFA DTs make the squad?
  • Are 5 TEs enough?
  • Bengals stick with Marco Wilson and D.J. Ivey, but send
  • When did the Balyn Lux hype train derail?
  • Is PJ Jules in it for the long term?
  • Who the heck is William Wagner?

Dalton Risner to Bengals

imagn-24888259.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals have done it. After months and months of clamoring for help at guard, the Bengals are signing free agent Dalton Risner to a deal.

Jordan Schultz broke the news first.

This has the potential to be a massive addition to the Bengals’ revamped guard spots, which will likely have new starters on the left and right sides this season. Third-round rookie Dylan Fairchild is set to take over left guard in place of Cordell Volson, while the right guard spot was trending toward Lucas Patrick, a cheap free agent pickup from earlier this offseason that didn’t exactly inspire confidence while hoping to replace the departed Alex Cappa.

Instead, that spot is likely going to be Risner by the time Week 1 rolls around in Cleveland.

A former second-round NFL Draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2019, Risner has appeared in 87 career games, making 81 starts. He started 10 games last season for the Minnesota Vikings after opening the season on injured reserve due to a back injury. He earned a respectable 68.1 Pro Football Focus grade, highlighted by a 76.1 mark in pass-blocking.

Risner has allowed just 11 career sacks across 2,984 pass-blocking snaps. Cappa, meanwhile, allowed eight sacks in 723 pass-blocking snaps just last year.

This isn’t to say Risner is an All-Pro who every team should have pursued. His PFF blocking grades have ranged from 57.1 to 68.5, largely due to consistently below-average run-blocking grades. The important thing is that Risner is a good pass-blocker who’s earned at least a 67.4 pass-blocking grade every year, highlighted by his career-best 76.1 mark last year.

Dalton Risner’s wife celebrates with Cincy gear after he signed with the Bengals

imagn-25202623.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals have now added some offensive line help as Week 1 approaches, filling a huge need for the team heading into the regular season.

Former Minnesota Vikings guard Dalton Risner visited the Queen City just over one week ago as the team tried to sell him on becoming a key piece to help protect Joe Burrow.

Now, according to Jordan Schultz, the Bengals have landed the talented interior lineman.

The excitement across the fanbase should be real, as Risner immediately helps a position group that was struggling to find some quality depth and a quality starting right guard.

Dalton’s wife, Whitney, also showed excitement to join the Bengals. She took to TikTok and Twitter to share the news of her husband’s signing.

Trey Hendrickson Latest and 2025 Bengals Roster Finalization—OBI

gettyimages-2191131003.jpg

(Editor’s Note: This episode was recorded prior to the Bengals’ signing of Dalton Risner.)

The Cincinnati Bengals are marching towards the regular season and they are making headlines. Aside from finalizing their roster, they came to an agreement, of sorts, with their star defensive end.

Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati front office have been at odds since the spring of 2024, but earlier this week, they came to a middle ground. While a long-term deal wasn’t reached, both sides found grounds for an agreement, as Hendrickson will now be paid upwards of $30 million for his 2025 services.

Aside from that headline, Cincinnati is finalizing its roster for the year. While they may look at the waiver wire, free agency might still be an option. And, as it goes this time of year, many feel they won’t be able to retain some of their own cuts, but that is largely inaccurate.

On this episode:

  • The Bengals and Trey Hendrickson have come to a cease-fire on the long-standing contractual issue between he and the club…sort of.
  • What does the future hold for Hendrickson and the Bengals?
  • Cincinnati made their final roster decisions–with a couple of small surprises.

Bengals News (8/28): Seth McLaughlin staying in Cincinnati

Bengals’ risk pays off as promising rookie now finds himself on the practice squad after being waived during final cuts

McLaughlin was one of Cincinnati’s coveted undrafted free agent signings from this year’s class. The former Ohio State starter and Rimington Award winner from the 2024 college football season had draftable grades attached to his scouting report, but a torn Achilles from late in OSU’s season ultimately prohibited him from being drafted.

QUICK HITS | How Trey Hendrickson Got Ready For His Return: ‘Like He Hasn’t Missed A Step’

“He’s more than ready. It was great having full-speed reps today. He’s such a hard-worker. He is who he is, and that’s why they gave him $30 million. The motor. The attitude. He’s one of the toughest players in football.”

Reports: Bengals Pad O-Line Experience With Another Vet Guard In Dalton Risner

According to reports, the Bengals have agreed to terms with Dalton Risner, a 2019 second-round draft pick from Kansas State who has 81 starts with Denver and Minnesota, along with one in the postseason. Combined with Patrick, the duo has 145 starts in an NFL interior to offset rookie starting left guard Dylan Fairchild and rookie backup right guard Jalen Rivers. Patrick has played in 107 games, started 64 and appeared in three playoff games.

Also signed QB Brett Rypien to the practice squad. Rypien (6-2, 200), a sixth-year player out of Boise State University, originally was a college free agent signee of Denver in 2019. He has played in 10 career games with four starts for the Broncos (2020-22) and L.A. Rams (’23), and completed 98 of 168 passes for 950 yards and four TDs with nine INTs. He also spent time on Seattle’s practice squad and the N.Y. Jets’ active roster during the 2023 season, then spent the entire ’24 campaign on Minnesota’s practice squad.

He appeared in 32 games over that span, finishing with 81 tackles and five passes defensed. Yeast appeared in one game for the Rams in 2024, but ended up bouncing around a bit. He played in two games for the Panthers and one game for the Texans.

Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson says revised 1-year contract wasn’t always on table

“When it presented itself, I was incredibly humbled by it,” Hendrickson said. “My wife and I prayed about it and it was something we collectively felt good about. In retrospect if it helps with that extension I signed and also in some ways helps the 2025 Bengals, I feel like it’s a mutual common ground. It’s a mutual respect that we weren’t finding solutions any other way.”

Orlando Brown Jr. calls Dalton Risner “a dog,” says the guard is “going to help us a ton”

The Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive line got a big boost when the team finally signed guard Dalton Risner to a one-year deal.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound veteran will give Joe Burrow and company a bit more security in pass protection.

“He’s going to help us a ton,” said Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. when asked about the move. “Everybody knows what he’s done in this league… He’s a dog. He’s got tremendous feet. He does a great job also using his hands in pass protection. He’s a really big guy as well, so it sounds like a match and easy fit in our room.”

After months of anticipation, the front office finally got it done and gave the o-line an insurance policy in case Jalen Rivers doesn’t develop quickly enough.

No doubt, this was the right move for a team in win-now mode. Now, as Brown hinted at the end of the interview, it’s just about seeing how quickly he can develop chemistry with the line with the regular season only a week and a half away.

Chad Johnson recruits Justin Simmons on X

imagn-25005654.jpg

The Cincinnati Bengals have really impressed the last few days, re-signing Trey Hendrickson and adding Dalton Risner.

But they still have a lot of cap space for this season.

And so legendary Bengals receiver Chad Johnson is doing his part to recruit safety Justin Simmons.

It all started when Johnson posted: “Yo @jsimms1119 i f***ing love you man, I’m not tampering just curious if you like Skyline Chilli because I know a place if you’re interested?”

Simmons then quote posted: “My guy!! Know I’m a Martin County kid (St. Lucie). Always looked up to you! I’ve always heard about Skyline Chilli! Would love to give it a try”

And then Johnson quote posted: “Dear @Bengals I did my part, you can take it from here.”

Adding Simmons would be a shrewd move for a team that is looking to contend with a younger and somewhat unestablished secondary. He played nine seasons for the Denver Broncos and one for the Atlanta Falcons last year.

Back in April, Simmons mentioned the Bengals as a team he’d like to sign with.

Bills, Eagles, Bengals.

Now, thanks in part to Johnson, that might actually happen.
