Germaine Pratt joining the Raiders

NFL: AFC Wild Card-Las Vegas Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals

Joseph Maiorana-Imagn Images

Pratt finds his new NFL home.

Germaine Pratt is wasting no time in finding his next home following his release by the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Las Vegas Raiders are signing Pratt to a one-year deal worth $4.78 million. Schultz added that Pratt had a nice market before opting to sign with Las Vegas.

“Sources say Germaine Pratt had a very hot market after being released by the Bengals and had several teams interested in him,” Schultz wrote. “The Raiders ultimately made the most sense with the opportunity he’ll have with Pete Carroll and DC Patrick Graham’s defense.”

The irony here is Pratt ended the Bengals’ 31-year playoff drought with a game-clinching interception vs. these very Raiders in the 2021-22 Wild Card Round.

Best of luck to Pratt as he looks to continue his NFL career with the Raiders!

If things got bad enough, Shemar Stewart can actually re-enter the 2026 NFL Draft

2025 NFL Draft Portraits

The rookie hasn't spoken kindly of the team, but not playing for them would come at a huge cost.

The Cincinnati Bengals and their first-round pick Shemar Stewart have been having an issue getting a deal done, and it has caused tensions to get high.

The Rookie started by simply not practicing but showing up for meetings. Then he publicly called out the franchise for "wanting to win arguments more than they want to win more games." That obviously stepped a bit over a line from simple disagreement to possibly more. Then, Stewart skipped the final day of the minicamp altogether.

The question that comes up from sheer curiosity is simply, can Stewart avoid playing for Cincinnati?

The answer is yes, but it isn't a route that is ideal for players.

For those wondering (and if it even gets to this extreme), Shemar Stewart can re-enter the 2026 draft, but he would have to sit out a year. This would make him eligible to be selected by any team other than CIN.

A year off for a pass rusher that needs development is not ideal. https://t.co/QU5152Ddjg

— Jordan Reid (@Jordan_Reid) June 12, 2025

Per the NFL CBA, if he plays in an outside professional league (CFL, UFL, etc.), the Bengals would retain his rights for 3 years.

— Jordan Reid (@Jordan_Reid) June 12, 2025

Quite simply, Stewart would have to stay away from football for an entire season. There are other less traditional routes, like potentially suing the NCAA to go back to college, to get around that, but the most direct route is sitting out an entire season.

Many already recognized that the Bengals took a shot on being able to develop Stewart when they drafted him. He only had 4.5 sacks in 37 games. He got plenty of pressure but couldn't finish.

Sitting out a year isn't going to look good for a prospect, and teams don't generally view that kind of behavior favorably.

Not to mention, Stewart is set to make a $840,000 base salary this year, not including any signing bonus/guaranteed money he'd also get from his contract. If he didn't get drafted in the first round next year, he wouldn't have to worry about offset language because he wouldn't have any guaranteed money on his deal.

The simple thing here is that Stewart would get the satisfaction of sticking it to the Bengals, but he would be turning down an insane amount of money and security that he'd be afforded even with the reported clause the Bengals are looking to add.

The only player to ever actually do this was Bo Jackson. He decided to never play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and instead go play baseball. Stewart not having that extra sport as an option to still make money while he waits doesn't give him many realistic options.

Al Golden has high praise for Shemar Stewart

Syndication: The Enquirer

Phil Didion/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The Bengals’ defensive coordinator is eager to work with his rookie pass rusher.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ front office is in the middle of an ugly rookie contract dispute with Shemar Stewart.

The uber-athletic pass rusher out of Texas A&M is not happy that Katie Blackburn and company have changed the language around voiding years in his contract.

Stewart even went so far as to call out the front office by saying, “... in y’all case, y’all just want to win arguments (more) than winning more games.” Ouch.

With all that going on, the Bengals’ defensive coordinator has made it clear that he’d love to have Stewart out there on the field with his unit.

Fox 19’s Gabi Sorrentino tweeted: “Al Golden said Shemar Stewart has been great in meetings and learning the Bengals defense.” Sorrentino then quoted the DC as saying, “I love the young man. He has a great attitude.”

That’s a really good sign for the future of Stewart in stripes (assuming there is one), as we all know he still has a long way to go in terms of development.

We talked about the standoff between Stewart and the front office in the video below.

Dax Hill hopes to be ready for Day 1 of training camp following ACL injury

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals

Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

The former first-round pick isn’t sure what to expect once he returns but is hopeful of being out there for Day 1 of camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals have quite an interesting situation on the defensive side of the football this offseason.

NFL sack leader Trey Hendrickson is currently not practicing in hopes of a massive contract extension with the Bengals.

Rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart is also not practicing due to contract negotiation issues with the Bengals as well.

However, there is some good news Bengals fans. Dax Hill is set to return for training camp after missing a large majority of last season due to a torn ACL.

Hill has made it clear he wants nothing more than to be back on the field this summer with his teammates and is optimistic about his return.

“I’m hopeful in the next couple of weeks. This break is five weeks, so probably right before, hopefully. I’ve been preparing myself to be cleared and trying to show them that I can actually be cleared,” Hill stated after a recent minicamp practice.

Hill does understand that even though he will be cleared for practice, there is still work to be done to ensure he does not rush or re-injure is knee before the season.

“I know it’s going to be a gradual ramp-up. I’m not going to be expecting a whole lot (when camp begins), but yeah, I’m wanting to be out there for Day 1,” Hill said.

Hill is right on schedule for his return after tearing his ACL back in October.

The former first-round pick will bring much-needed help to the secondary this season with Al Golden leading the way on defense.

Hamilton County Commissioner votes no on a much-needed update to Paycor Stadium

Pittsburgh Steelers v Cincinnati Bengals

Negotiations for a new lease are spilling over to key areas of maintenance.

It might take fans a bit longer to get around Paycor Stadium this upcoming season.

Hamilton County Commissioners recently voted 2-1 to replace six escalators in the stadium. Because of that lone ‘No’ vote, plans will not move forward for the $1.5 million project.

Alicia Reese was the lone Commissioner to vote no, according to Chris Wetterich or Cincinnati Business Courier.

One of the big reasons for this vote was the Cincinnati Bengals stating the escalators in question are "unsafe." Reese took issue with this.

“If the place is unsafe, it needs to be shut down today,” Reece said, according to Wetterich. "I will call it like I see it. If we don’t have escalators that aren’t working properly, I consider that unsafe."

The clear issue with that thinking is that they do have stairs to get around the stadium, and they can simply have these shut down. It will just drastically slow down the whole process and efficiency of getting to seats and out of the stadium.

More of a reasonable argument is that new escalators are part of the $830 million memorandum of understanding on stadium renovations. A new lease has yet to be agreed upon, and the deadline is June 30th.

An issue that will be coming sooner than later is logistically getting escalators replaced prior to the 2026 season, as acquiring the materials is easier said than done in the current state of the world.

It is understandable to want the lease agreement done before stuff like this gets figured out, but this could be a real issue, and shutting down Paycor Stadium over some escalators simply is not a reasonable option for either side.

What the Bengals linebacker room looks like after Germaine Pratt’s release

Regardless of Pratt’s performance in 2024, he leaves a big void in the Bengals linebacker position.

Germaine Pratt being released by the Cincinnati Bengals isn’t a surprise. What’s surprising is how long it took for the Bengals to ultimately release him.

Pratt requested a trade months ago, and the Bengals released him just one day before Mandatory Minicamp starts on Tuesday.

Even though Pratt looked like he was struggling last season, he should be remembered for his big-play mentality in the biggest games over his seasons in Cincinnati. Pratt’s interception in the playoff game against the Raiders is one of the best moments in my life as a Bengals fan. I’ll never forget the sound of 66,277 fans simultaneously erupting at Paul Brown Stadium when Pratt’s interception broke the Cincinnati Sports Curse.

In addition, Pratt also had a fumble recovery against Minnesota in Week 1 of the Bengals Super Bowl season, and the Bengals turned that fumble recovery into a game-winning drive. It was Pratt who ripped the ball out of Travis Kelce’s hands in the fourth quarter against the Chiefs in Week 13 of the 2022 season, with the Bengals turning that fumble into a game-winning touchdown.

Even last season, Pratt picked off Broncos quarterback Bo Nix on 3rd & 14 late in the fourth quarter that turned into Joe Burrow’s go-ahead touchdown on a QB sneak when he celebrated by doing the griddy.

Needless to say, Pratt is leaving a void in the Bengals linebacker room. Let’s look at what the Bengals linebacker room looks like with Pratt being released on Monday.

Bengals Linebacker Room as it stands

Oren Burks

Burks was a free-agent signing on March 10th, the first day of the legal tampering period in the NFL. He comes from the Philadelphia Eagles, who won Super Bowl LIX this past February. An eight-year veteran who stands at 6-foot-3 and 233 pounds., Burks had 41 combined tackles and two forced fumbles in 17 games in the regular season last year. Then, in the Playoffs and Super Bowl, Burks had 25 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a sack. Burks’s veteran presence will be a huge depth piece in the Bengals linebacker room.

Barrett Carter

Carter was the Bengals fourth-round draft pick this past April at 119th overall. He played in 52 games and started 40 in his four seasons at Clemson, where he was a finalist for the Butkus Award - given to the best linebacker in college football - in 2024. The biggest thing about Carter is that he was a captain on last year’s Clemson team, and Zac Taylor loves drafting players and signing free agents who have previously been captains.

Joe Giles-Harris

Giles-Harris has been in the NFL since 2019, and he has played four different teams in that time span. He played in just five games last year while playing for both the Patriots and Jaguars, making just a combined four tackles. His career high in tackles was 20 with the Bills in 2021.

Shaka Heyward

Heyward signed with the Bengals in 2023 as a college free agent out of Duke, and he played in all three preseason games that year with eight tackles. In 2024, Heyward played in six games with six tackles on special teams and a forced fumble.

Demetrius Knight Jr.

Knight was the Bengals’ second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft at 49th overall. He’s an older rookie who will turn 25 next month, and he played six years of college football at Georgia Tech, Charlotte, and South Carolina. It was with South Carolina last year where Knight picked off Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with just seconds remaining to lift the Gamecocks to a win over their arch-rival Tigers. Knight also had 82 tackles, two sacks, and three forced fumbles last year.

Maema Njongmeta

If the Bengals had made the Playoffs in 2024, Njongmeta’s heads-up recovery on the Cowboys’ muffed punt on Monday Night Football would have been the turning point of the season. It was the first play at a critical juncture in a big game that went the Bengals way, and the Bengals cashed in when Burrow hit Chase for a 40-yard catch-and-run game-winning touchdown.

In 17 games, with one start in 2024, Njongmeta had 13 combined tackles. It was a really good season for the college free agent out of Wisconsin.

Logan Wilson

Without question, Wilson, the leader of the linebacker room, has emerged as a cornerstone of the Bengals' defense over the last five seasons. Although he missed the last five games last season, he was on pace to smash his previous career-high in tackles (135) with 104 through 11 games.

Wilson is due for a bounce-back season in terms of health and production. Remember, Al Golden was his position coach when he first came into the NFL in 2020. In 2021, Wilson had four interceptions in the regular season and another pick in the Divisional round of the Playoffs that set up the game-winning drive in Tennessee.

Craig Young

Young signed a reserve/future contract on January 7th after being signed to the Bengals practice squad on Christmas Eve.

He played college football at Ohio State and Kansas before spending time with the Colts and Steelers in 2024.

Bengals Reacts

In this week’s Bengals Reacts survey, 79% of fans said that cutting Pratt was the right move for Cincinnati.

Key takeaways from Bengals OTAs

Syndication: The Enquirer

Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Here are the key points, just in case you haven’t been paying attention.

The Cincinnati Bengals are cruising through the offseason now that mandatory minicamp has concluded, and I’m here to break down what you’ve missed — just in case you haven’t been paying attention.

We’ll start with the black cloud:

Trey Hendrickson’s very public contract dispute

This back-and-forth has cast a shadow over everything else this offseason. The Bengals’ defense allowed an appalling 434 points last year, dragging down Joe Burrow and an otherwise explosive offense and leaving the team with a disappointing 9-8 record.

Now, they’re playing a game of chicken with the only proven pass rusher on the roster. Whether you’re on Team Bengals or Team Hendrickson, there’s no denying his absence is hurting the team.

We’re not done with contract issues

The Bengals used their first-round pick on Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart, who could, in theory, take Hendrickson’s place — if he weren’t standing on the sideline alongside him. Stewart, too, is in a contract dispute with the front office and remains one of the few unsigned first-round picks from this year’s draft.

Guard overhaul under Scott Peters

The Bengals cut Alex Cappa and restructured Cordell Volson’s deal after both struggled to protect Burrow from interior pressure last season. They signed veteran G/C Lucas Patrick and drafted Dylan Fairchild out of Georgia.

Cody Ford, Volson, Matt Lee, Jaxson Kirkland, and others are all battling for roster spots, and it remains unclear who will start next to Ted Karras in Week 1 — or whether this revamped unit will be an improvement over last year’s.

All in on offense

While new defensive coordinator Al Golden works to rebuild from the ashes of the 2024 squad, the Bengals appear all-in on their offense. Burrow is healthy, and he’s surrounded by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins — arguably the NFL’s top WR duo — for at least the next few seasons.

The plan for 2025 looks simple: score early, score often, and force opposing offenses into one-dimensional, catch-up mode. Hopefully, it works better this time than it did a year ago.

Al Golden ushers in a new era of defensive success — hopefully

Golden takes over for Lou Anarumo, now in Indianapolis, after the Bengals’ defense played a leading role in keeping them out of the playoffs last year. Other than the rookies and a few rotational free agents, the 2025 defensive personnel looks very similar to 2024’s — meaning it won’t take long to see if coaching really was the problem.

Golden’s full plans remain unclear, especially with Hendrickson and Stewart still absent. But frankly, it’s going to be hard to be worse than last year’s unit.

Two players who drew good reviews in OTAs were veteran defensive tackle TJ Slaton and second-round rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. They may end up being the two biggest upgrades the Bengals defense gets this year, especially if Shemar Stewart continues to sit out and miss valuable development when training camp begins.

Stadium upgrade plans

Paycor Stadium’s lease is quickly running out, and the Brown/Blackburn family is deep in negotiations with Hamilton County. Predictably, things in the Queen City are getting messy.

Expect this to get uglier before it gets resolved in the coming weeks.

Not messing around

During one OTA session, Burrow threw an interception on a pass intended for Mike Gesicki — one that Cam Taylor-Britt jumped for a pick. The corner, in need of a bounce-back year, wasn’t shy about celebrating it.

On the very next play, though, Burrow hit Chase deep, burning DJ Turner for what would’ve been a touchdown.

That’s the edge this team seems to have taken into the offseason. They took one on the chin last year and appear determined to prove it was an exception, not the rule.

Spotlight on the front office

The 2024 9-8 season will go down as one of the NFL’s wildest statistical outliers. How many teams will you ever see with:

  • A quarterback posting 4,900 yards, 43 TDs, and 9 INTs,
  • A wide receiver winning the Triple Crown, and
  • A defensive end leading the league in sacks...

Yet somehow miss the playoffs?

The football world came down hard on the Bengals’ front office this offseason — and deservedly so. Now, with public contract disputes and ugly stadium lease talks swirling, much of the goodwill earned from two deep playoff runs has been spent.

All eyes are on the Brown/Blackburn family to right the ship.

What were your biggest takeaways from OTAs? Let us know on Twitter and in the comments section!

Willie Anderson makes ESPN’s All Quarter Century team

NFL: Carolina Panthers at Cincinnati Bengals

USA TODAY Sports

The former Bengals right tackle gets recognition for his amazing consistency.

Willie Anderson is arguably the greatest right tackle in NFL history.

Somehow, that hasn’t been enough for the Cincinnati Bengals legend to get inducted into the Hall of Fame.

But, fortunately, he does get some recognition from those who know the game of football.

Recently, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz and Seth Walder put together a 53-man roster of the greatest players since 2000, or, the NFL All Quarter Century team.

They used stats, peak seasons, longevity, and FTN’s DYAR metric (defense-adjusted yards above replacement). And Anderson was one of two right tackles to make the list.

Here is what they had to say about Anderson:

Even though our time span cuts off the first four seasons of Anderson’s career, what he did in the nine years from 2000 on earns him a spot on this list. He played in 16 regular-season games every year from 2000 to 2006 with the Bengals.

The other right tackle to make the author’s roster was the Philadelphia Eagles’ Lane Johnson.

Anderson is certainly one of the greatest players in franchise history and a worthy members of the Ring of Honor.

Meanwhile, the Bengals recently parted ways with Germaine Pratt, who could find himself in the Ring of Honor one day.

We gave him a proper sendoff in the video below.

Bengals Podcast: Defensive End Contract Hubbub

Cleveland Browns v Cincinnati Bengals

The Edge of Tomorrow.

Your friendly neighborhood ball-knowers return to discuss the Cincinnati Bengals' ongoing saga with defensive end contracts. Who would have thought that David Mulugheta’s guy (Joseph Ossai), would be the easy one.

No, Trey Hendrickson is not getting traded. Stop trying to make it happen.

No, Shemar Stewart is not going to enter next year’s NFL Draft. That would be downright nutty.

Both Hendrickson and Stewart seem to have the support of their teammates. Orlando Brown and Joe Burrow, for their part, seem pretty confident this gets worked out.

Hendrickson is working out in Cincinnati at Black Sheep Performance (no connection to the Chris Farley/David Spade film of the same name). He hosted a youth football camp in Dayton last weekend. He’s doing charity events for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital while wearing his jersey and Ted Karras’s hat.

All of these things seem to be very good signs that the Trey Hendrickson drama could be nearing an end.

Then there is Shemar Stewart. This drama just won’t die.

Zac Hiller, the agent for Shemar Stewart, was on SiriusXM today with Solomon Wilcots and Christian Fauria.

Hiller: “Obviously my job, and all agents’ job, is to protect the players. Simply put, Shemar would, of course, love for his contract to be as protective as the rest of…

— Mike Petraglia (@Trags) June 23, 2025

His agent had a conversation with Christian Fauria and Bleav’s own Solomon Wilcots, and he said a lot of things that you would expect him to say, but he did make a couple of comments that are pretty telling.

Plus, we talk about what Chris Tucker and Zac Taylor have in common: P.H.A.T.

Taylor wants his Physical Hungry Accountable Team. Me, I just want Rush Hour 4: Commuter Lane.

Besides, maybe there is a better, more up-to-date acronym for the 21st century?

Bengals announce deal with Hamilton County on Paycor Stadium lease and upgrades

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals

Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

“This is a significant day for the Bengals and Hamilton County as we secure the team’s future in Cincinnati.”

The Bengals and Hamilton County have agreed to the principal terms for a new lease that will keep the team in Cincinnati, playing home games at Paycor Stadium through June 2036, with 10 additional option years that could extend the lease through June 2046.

“This is a significant day for the Bengals and Hamilton County as we secure the team’s future in Cincinnati,” said Bengals Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn in a press release. “We thank the Hamilton County Commissioners for supporting this agreement to ensure Paycor Stadium remains an excellent venue and a focal point for Cincinnati’s riverfront. We are proud to call Paycor Stadium our home and to keep our future here in Cincinnati, where it belongs.”

The agreement supports a reasonable approach to modernize the 25-year-old stadium at a time when other communities are faced with multi-billion-dollar new stadium projects. The $470 million renovation project will maintain a best-in-class NFL stadium that attracts major concerts and events to Cincinnati.

The Bengals will invest $120 million in the renovation project, covering 75% of the new improvements to the stadium. The team and Hamilton County will continue to work collaboratively to secure meaningful funding from the State of Ohio to further support the renovation efforts.

Paycor Stadium opened in 2000 when the Bengals and Hamilton County came together with a goal of transforming Cincinnati’s riverfront into a world-class sports and entertainment district. The Banks generate over $2.5 billion in annual economic impact, with the Bengals driving over $1 billion in annual economic impact.

Under a new deal, the Bengals and Hamilton County are poised to continue transforming the riverfront, driving economic growth and delivering unforgettable moments for fans for years to come in downtown Cincinnati.
