Utah Mammoth pick up Hibbing native, UMD alum Scott Perunovich



Hibbing native and former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Bulldog Scott Perunovich will be lacing up his skates for the NHL's newly named Utah Mammoth. On Tuesday they signed the 26-year-old defenseman to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level. Perunovich split last season between the St. Louis Blues and New York Islanders, where he would combine for two goals and seven assists in 35 total games.

The Mammoth have another Stanley Cup champion: Nate Schmidt



The Utah Mammoth have signed veteran defenseman Nate Schmidt to a three-year deal worth $3.5 million annually. Schmidt, 33, is not new to expansion franchises. The Golden Knights lost that year — and he was no longer on the team when they won in 2023 — but he got his ring this year with the Florida Panthers. After leaving the Golden Knights, Schmidt struggled to find a permanent home.

How new star J.J. Peterka reacted to getting traded to Utah



J.J. Peterka was on a golf trip in Spain when he got the news. The Utah Mammoth were making a deal for the Buffalo Sabres forward. What's more, a five-year, $38.5 million contract was on the table.
