Mammoth bring back Michael Carcone on 1-year deal

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – In an unexpected move, the Utah Mammoth announced the signing of forward Michael Carcone to a one-year contract worth $775,000. “We are very pleased to sign Michael to a new contract,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth. ”He’s a play-making forward who plays with an edge, […]

Blame Benson Boone and his backflips for Utah Mammoth's start to the NHL season

Utah Mammoth fans will have to wait a bit longer to hear the sounds of regular-season hockey return to the Delta Center. The 2025-2026 NHL campaign commences on Oct. 7, but the only thing echoing from the downtown Salt Lake City arena that week will be from Benson Boone. The singer — who went to Brigham Young University-Idaho and grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — is scheduled to perform in Utah Oct. 8, Oct. 9 and Oct. 11. The Mammoth will, accordingly, begin their season with a three-game road trip against Central Division opponents before returning for their home opener on Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. against the Calgary Flames.

Series: Utah Mammoth offseason recap

In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they've done over the offseason. Next up is the Utah Mammoth. Key additions: JJ Peterka, Brandon Tanev, Nate Schmidt, Scott Perunovich, Vitek Vanecek The Mammoth made arguably the top move of the offseason bringing in JJ Peterka via trade with the Sabres. He will be added to a top 6 forward core that should be deadly next season. They acquired some much needed snarl to the club with the addition of Brandon Tanev. Stanley Cup champ Nate Schmidt is a nice add to the D core. Vitek Vanecek will likely backup Vejmelka in net. Key subtractions: Josh Doan, Nick Bjugstad, Michael Kesselring, Robert Bortuzzo The Mammoth lost a couple decent pieces

Tij Iginla's double hip surgery isn't as bad as you'd think

When Tij Iginla, the first player ever drafted by the Utah Mammoth franchise, underwent double hip surgery at age 18, the instant reaction from the hockey world was one of concern — hip surgery is for the elderly, everyone thought. Arthroscopic hip surgery, which is what Iginla underwent, is commonly used to treat femoroacetabular impingement (FAI for short). It removes bone abnormality on the femur or hip socket, which can rub in an uncomfortable way and eventually lead to arthritis. FAI is most commonly genetic and present from birth, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Utah breweries tap into hockey fandom with record sales and special beers

When the jumbotron flashes to the crowd during Utah Mammoth games at the Delta Center you can see a lot of things — broccoli heads, babies in noise-canceling headphones, a dancing man in a sequined jacket. Forget the size of the cup or the limited time a person may have on camera, that beer is getting finished with an audience cheering on the drinker. Despite the outside narratives of what Utah — and professional sports in Salt Lake City — are like, the NHL has brought out a different side of the state.

Grading Mammoth's 2025 NHL Draft class

It has been a busy offseason for Bill Armstrong, the general manager of the Utah Mammoth. Beyond bringing in JJ Peterka, he also signed Nate Schmidt, Brandon Tanev, and Vitek Vanecek. The Mammoth also had another solid showing in the 2025 NHL Draft. Armstrong became the GM of the Arizona Coyotes in September of 2020 and would continue with Utah when Ryan Smith acquired the assets of the franchise.
