Titans stay at No 1, pass over QBs in latest Daniel Jeremiah mock draft

NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently released his second mock draft of 2025, and his position on the Tennessee Titans has not changed.

In his first mock draft, Jeremiah suggested that the Titans would select edge rusher Abdul Carter out of Penn State.

My ears perked up when Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said the team wouldn’t pass on a generational talent with the first pick. To me, Carter is the best player in the draft and he plays a premium position. I could see Tennessee looking to add competition for QB Will Levis in the free-agent market or later on in the draft.

Over his career at Penn State, Carter racked up 173 tackles (105 solo), 23 sacks (12 last year), five forced fumbles, one interception, and 13 passes defensed. The Titans need someone who can push through opposing lines and get at the quarterback.

For his second mock, Jeremiah had an additional comment:

The Titans have their share of holes to fill and decide to take the best player available in this year’s class. They choose to find their QB of the future in next year’s draft.

Here’s where he’s wrong: The Titans don’t plan to find their quarterback of the future in next year’s draft. If they decide not to draft a quarterback in 2025, you can be sure they’re going to find a player in free agency or they’ll work out a trade. And maybe the guy they bring in is filler until they find their future guy, but they certainly aren’t going to leave the quarterback position alone.

The Titans have to make a ton of adjustments during this offseason, and the quarterback position is a top priority.

NFL analyst has Titans' draft targets narrowed to three

On Thursday, Titans Wire covered NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s second mock draft of 2025. In that mock, he stayed true to his initial entry and his thoughts on the Tennessee Titans have not changed.

Jeremiah has the Titans grabbing Penn State edge Abdul Carter with the No. 1 pick. Carter would have to be listed as a favorite at this point with many analysts and fans believing he will be the selection in April.

During a subsequent conference call, Jeremiah gave some insight into his thoughts on the Titans and what they will do with this pick.

NFL Network’s @MoveTheSticks tabs his top-rated prospect to the @Titans with the first pick of the NFL Draft, but he knows it may not be that simple.

“I think you’re deciding between those three players, and then the fourth option is to trade.”

“I look at them and to me, I think there’s really a couple options,” Jeremiah said. “I think it’s three players — I think it’s Abdul Carter, I think it’s (Colorado cornerback) Travis Hunter, or (Miami quarterback) Cam Ward. If you’re deciding between those three players, then the fourth option is to trade.”

The selection of Carter, if they don’t trade out, goes along with his initial rankings of the top 50 prospects where he has Carter (1st), Hunter (2nd), and Ward (the 1st quarterback) as the 10th best prospect. If the Titans do make a trade, it is possible that they could still select one of these three, but it would limit their options.

At this point, this is all speculation, although things could change as early as next week once the NFL scouting combine begins in Indianapolis.

Titans' Treylon Burks named a potential cap casualty

The Tennessee Titans are readying the troops to embark on a journey toward redemption. After a miserable 2024 campaign exposed multiple holes and left them with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, there really is nowhere to go but up.

New general manager Mike Borgonzi does have some assets to work with. Not only is that first pick a valuable commodity, but they also have roughly $50 million in salary cap space. They could also make a few moves to free up some more money.

Names like Harold Landry and Arden Key are often mentioned when salary cap cuts come up, but the team at The Athletic came up with a different name in their review of potential salary cap cuts.

Tennessee Titans: Treylon Burks, WR

The designated replacement for A.J. Brown, the other side of one of the worst personnel moves in franchise history and one of the worst in recent NFL memory, needs a fresh start. The Titans need to stop waiting for him to be a factor. The 2022 first-round pick has been banged up, playing in 27 of 51 possible games. He hasn’t done much with his opportunities — 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown. His 2025 cap hit and dead number if the Titans move on from him are the same, $4.6 million. It’s worth moving on and rebuilding the receiving corps around Calvin Ridley.

There is no doubt that Burks has been a disappointment since arriving in Nashville. Between injuries and subpar performances, he has never been able to live up to his draft pedigree and has been a complete bust. He is also coming off a knee injury that forced him to finish the season on injured reserve.

The idea of Burks and the Titans parting ways has been rumored for some time, with some analysts surprised he wasn’t dealt last offseason after the acquisition of Calvin Ridley. Burks needs a change and the Titans need a dynamic weapon opposite Ridley. Time will tell if this happens.

Titans' Jeffery Simmons lands on PFF's top 101 list

The Tennessee Titans had a horrid 2024 season. The offensive line looked awful, the quarterback position was a mess, special teams couldn’t get its act together, and nothing Brian Callahan tried was effective. The lone bright spot in 2024 was the defense, which ranked near the top of the league for the entire season.

One of the reasons the Titans’ defense was strong is because of the effort of Jeffery Simmons. A leader on the line, Simmons took T’Vondre Sweat under his wing and the two were a dominating force despite the losses. Simmons performed well enough in 2024 that Pro Football Focus placed him on their top 101 players list.

Simmons headlined a Tennessee defensive tackle unit that finished second in the NFL in overall grade. Individually, he earned an 81.6 pass-rush grade that placed him seventh among qualified defensive tackles. This was Simmons’ third out of six career seasons with an 80.0-plus overall grade.

Simmons was second in tackles for the Titans, behind linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. Simmons recorded 76 tackles (41 solo), five sacks, four passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He may not have done it alone, but he played a vital role in the Titans’ defensive success in 2024.

2025 NFL combine: Mike Vrabel, Brian Callahan to hold dueling press conference

The NFL scouting combine kicks off in Indianapolis next week and it should give some insight into what the Tennessee Titans are thinking.

Fans will finally get the opportunity to hear head coach Brian Callahan and new general manager Mike Borgonzi talk about where they sit in this draft cycle. The NFL released their scheduled events and saw both Callahan and Borgonzi speaking on Tuesday.

In an incredible twist, Callahan will be speaking at the same time as former Titans head man and new New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. ET. Coincidence, probably not.

The scheduling is interesting because Vrabel still garners a lot of respect from members of the Nashville media and remains a hot topic, which could create some internal conflict. The Titans control the top of the draft, holding a potentially franchise-altering pick with the No. 1 overall selection. Information on their plans and potential targets should make headlines, but for now, they could be overshadowed by the attention paid to a former coach. The schedule maker must have a sense of humor.

Borgonzi will follow Callahan and be speaking Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and fans should get a better feel for the direction the team is heading. The Titans have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to retool their roster. This week will be a giant step forward leading up to the NFL draft in April.
