Titans HC Brian Callahan offers most glowing review of Cam Ward yet

All signs continue pointing to Cam Ward at No. 1 overall

The Tennessee Titans continue to be thorough ahead of making the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. After the team traveled in bunches to watch Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward perform at Pro Day, they’ll do something similar on Friday for Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter (though the group won’t be as large as Ward’s was).

The Titans also hosted a private workout with Ward. They’ll do the same with Sanders and Hunter approximately one week after Colorado’s Pro Day. Though Mike Borgonzi and Brian Callahan continue to play their cards close to their chest, recent comments made by Callahan to Paul Kuharsky about Ward may be the most revealing yet.

“You saw the flashes at Washington State — maybe it’s a talent disparity, I don’t think there is a crazy swing in talent,” Callahan told Kuharsky exclusively at the league ownership meetings. “You saw the flashes. Then, all of a sudden, he gets to Miami and then you saw it consistently. And I think that just comes from playing. I think that’s why these guys that have stayed in school longer, who are playing four and five years, I think it’s helping them because they’re getting chances to get more reps and more opportunities and you see their games sort of smooth out, become more consistent, become more pro ready, is the best way to put it.”

“You see that progression,” Callahan continued. “You see his decision-making become more consistent, you see the accuracy become more consistent over the course of his career. It’s been really fun. I think I’ve watched almost every snap he’s played, so it’s been cool to see that real progression. Of where he’s at now to where he came from, he’s made a lot of really impressive improvements over his career so far.”

Callahan sure sounds like a head coach who has been thoroughly impressed by Ward throughout the pre-draft process. Callahan knows what great quarterback play looks like after previously coaching Joe Burrow, Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Derek Carr. Either the Titans are taking Ward, or they’re conducting the most elaborate smokescreen of all time.

Titans claim they remain “open for business” at No. 1 overall

The Titans are doing their due diligence with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft

The Tennessee Titans are nearly wrapping up their pre-draft evaluation process. All decisive parties have claimed they are “nearing” a decision with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That makes sense. They’ve already been as thorough as possible with Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, having hosted him in Nashville for a pre-draft visit before further assessing him at Miami’s Pro Day and via a private workout days later.

The Titans will also have a contingent present at Colorado’s Pro Day on April 4th, though head coach Brian Callahan and president Chad Brinker will curiously be absent. They will however be present on April 9th, when the Titans plan to work out Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter privately, per Ian Rapoport.

While the final evaluations are being made, Callahan claimed the Titans remain open for business at No. 1 overall while speaking with reporters at this week’s annual league owner meetings.

“You do your due diligence and weigh whatever is being presented,” Callahan said. “If we feel [the trade offer] is beyond the value of what we thought we could get [in a trade], that’s one thing. But then you also have to look at what is a potential franchise quarterback. If you think [the QB] is that good, those guys are priceless. There is no price you can put on those types of players. You have to balance all those things. If there is a price that’s being offered, is that what you want to do? Or is the quarterback worth passing on that price? It’s a QB-driven thing. We’re potentially going to receive some offers, and those are things we have to look at. We’re open to everything. We’ve been consistent in our approach. That hasn’t changed. We’re doing our due diligence to all the options available to us.”

It sounds like the Titans are going to draft a quarterback unless somebody blows them away by offering three-plus first-round picks. Borgonzi and Callahan have certainly acted like they’re drafting a QB in April, having only pursued veteran backups Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle in free agency.
