Cleveland Browns expected to fire Kevin Stefanski

Things are about to get really interesting for the Tennessee Titans. They can finally start the process of finding their next head coach. They have been connected to a lot of guys already, including the report Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has already requested an interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

One thing over the next 24 hours is that there are multiple reports out there that the Cleveland Browns are expected to fire Kevin Stefanski. The Browns have made the playoffs three times in Stefanski’s six seasons. His overall record is 44-56 entering today, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

The Browns are in the discussion as the worst-run franchise in the entire NFL. In 2022, they sold the farm for former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. The issues around Watson have been very well chronicled. In addition to the off-the-field stuff, Watson has mostly been injured since the Browns acquired him.

When he was actually on the field in Cleveland, he played terribly. In the four seasons since they acquired him, Watson has played in just 19 games, throwing for 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. It’s tough to win games when your quarterback plays so poorly.

Stefanski should absolutely be on the list of guys Borgonzi brings in for an interview while searching for the next head coach of this team. He’s a good coach who was dealt a tough hand as the coach of the Browns.

Titans updated 2026 NFL Draft order: Current 1st-round pick after Week 18

The Tennessee Titans end the day just where they started, with the 4th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They barely lost out to the Arizona Cardinals for the third pick based on strength of schedule. The Titans finished with a .574 SOS, while the Cardinals finished at .571.

The Titans will be in a position to get a really good player with that pick. The needs on this roster are abundant. To me, the biggest need is a number one wide receiver for Cam Ward. That is why the picture for anything 2026 NFL Draft order related has been Carnell Tate. He looks like the best receiver in this draft.

Mike Borgonzi would probably love to be able to trade back a little bit and add extra picks in this draft and future drafts. That is a little tougher when teams are trying to move up to get a quarterback, but it does happen.

Appreciate the comprehensive breakdown on the coaching search timeline. Having Borgonzi lead the search definitely makes things clearer, and yeah, that Nagy connection seems pretty significant now.

I'm intrigued by the Stefanski news though. If Cleveland actually cuts him loose, that changes the whole landscape of this search. The guy won Coach of the Year twice and managed to drag that franchise to the playoffs three times despite the Watson disaster. That's genuinely impressive when you consider what he was working with. Hard to judge a coach too harshly when his starting QB situation has been that unstable.

My concern with Nagy is the Chicago tenure. I know he's had time to reset in Kansas City and learn under Reid again, but 34-31 with the Bears and that offense getting progressively worse each year... that sticks with me a bit. The Reid coaching tree has plenty of branches that didn't work out as head coaches.

Stefanski feels like a safer bet if he becomes available. Proven he can develop quarterbacks (Baker's best season, got solid play out of Brissett), runs a creative offense, and has actual playoff wins on his resume. That seems like exactly what you'd want for Ward's development.

The fourth pick landing spot is fine. Would've been nice to sneak up to two or three, but there should still be quality talent available. Tate would be a great addition if he's there - Ward needs weapons badly. Though I wonder if Borgonzi might look at trading back if someone falls in love with a QB prospect and wants to move up.

Lot of moving pieces over the next few weeks. Should be interesting to see who gets the first interview.

Titans request interviews with Matt Nagy, Vance Joseph, Lou Anarumo, and Steve Spagnuolo

[UPDATE 9:52 AM] – The Titans have also requested to interview Indianapolis Colts DC Lou Anarumo and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, per Ian Rapoport.

Mike Borgonzi is off and running this morning with his interview requests in the search for the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Ian Rapoport has reported this morning that the Titans have requested interviews with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. There has been a lot of speculation that Borgonzi will want a guy who has been a head coach before. Both of these guys fit that bill.

Nagy coached the Chicago Bears from 2018-2021. He went 34-31 as the head coach there and made the playoffs twice. Nagy has been the most heavily rumored candidate that the Titans would interview since Brian Callahan was fired in October.

Joseph was the head coach of the Broncos from 2017-2018. He compiled an 11-21 record in his two seasons at the helm. The Broncos’ defense has been one of the best in the league this season.

You can expect more names to come out as the day goes on. Keep in mind that for now, the only current coaches Borgonzi can interview are guys on teams that did not make the playoffs and guys on teams that have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Those two teams are the Broncos in the AFC and the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC.

Ranking the Titans’ first 4 HC interview requests from best to worst

The Tennessee Titans kicked their head coaching search into high gear on Monday morning. The team has already requested interviews with four candidates. They are Kansas City Chiefs coordinators Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuolo, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

This is a fairly uninspiring list. There’s no need for Titans fans to immediately panic, however. General manager Mike Borgonzi is expected to request interviews with upwards of 10 candidates. Initial discussions will occur virtually, and finalists will eventually travel to Nashville for in-person interviews.

We’ve ranked the Titans’ first four head coaching interview requests from best to worst.

Matt Nagy​

Nagy isn’t a popular candidate with the Titans’ fanbase, but he may be the best of this first initial round. Nagy went 34-31 in four seasons as the Chicago Bears’ head coach despite being straddled with Mitch Trubisky, Justin Fields, and a post-peak Nick Foles at quarterback. His relationship with Borgonzi (eight seasons together in KC) might make him a legitimate candidate.

Vance Joseph​

The Broncos have fielded the best defense in the NFL collectively since naming Joseph their defensive coordinator in 2023. He would be a stabilizing figure in the wake of the Brian Callahan disaster. Joseph would ultimately be an uninspiring appointment, though. He went 11-21 in two seasons (2017-18) as the Broncos’ head coach, though his quarterbacks were Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiller, Paxton Lynch, and Case Keenum.

Lou Anarumo​

Anarumo feels like another low-floor, veteran, stabilizing option. He possesses a brilliant defensive mind, but has never been an NFL head coach. It’s tough to envision a 59-year-old, first-time, defensive-minded head coach as the best option to develop Cam Ward.

Steve Spagnuolo​

Like Nagy, Steve Spagnuolo possesses a relationship with Borgonzi through Kansas City. It feels like the only justifiable reason for his interview request. Spagnuolo is a brilliant defensive coordinator, but he has an all-time head coaching record of 11-41.

Cam Ward injury update: Titans quarterback will not need surgery

Good news on the Cam Ward injury front today. Both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are reporting that the Tennessee Titans quarterback will not need surgery. He does have a sprained AC joint, but the doctors do not believe it will require him to go under the knife. That speeds up his rehab process tremendously.

We probably won’t get an official timeline with the season being over, but this is probably more of a 6-12 week recovery versus the four months plus that would have been required with surgery. That would have Ward available for OTAs with whoever the new coach is.

Ward also needs to spend some time this offseason working on his footwork. Being out until training camp would have made that extremely difficult. We know that Ward is going to put in the work. This outcome gets him ready to do that work a whole lot sooner.

We saw real progress from Ward in the last quarter of the season. He finished the season throwing for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Ravens fire John Harbaugh

I don’t know what Tennessee Titans general manager John Harbaugh is doing right now, but he should stop doing whatever it is and get John Harbaugh on the phone. It was just announced that the Baltimore Ravens have fired Harbaugh. He immediately becomes the top coaching candidate available.

There had been rumblings for the last few weeks that there was a split coming between Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson. Their relationship had deteriorated behind the scenes. The Ravens’ loss should be the Titans’ gain here. For once, the Titans should get a former Raven instead of it being the other way around.

Harbaugh has been the head coach in Baltimore since 2008. In that time, he has compiled a 180-113 record. His teams made the postseason 12 times in 18 seasons, including a Super Bowl win in 2012.

There has been a lot made of this being a weak cycle for head coaching candidates. That all changes with Harbaugh on the market. Borgonzi and the Titans should do whatever it takes to get him to be their next head coach.

Titans coaching search: Is Mike Borgonzi leaning towards a defensive mind?

After months of speculation, we now know who the Tennessee Titans will be bringing in for their first round of interviews. This list only includes coaches from teams that are not playing this weekend. You can keep track of everyone they are interviewing with our handy interview tracker.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN wrote an article today about the NFL coaching carousel. He mentioned that the Titans are intrigued by some of the defensive candidates on the market. The two he mentioned specifically were San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh* and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

The key, if they hire a defensive guy, as Fowler mentions in the article, is pairing that guy with an experienced playcaller on offense. That guy could come from some candidates they interview for the head coaching job. The interesting piece there is that so far, the only guys that fit that bill are Matt Nagy and Kevin Stefanski.

If Borgonzi could land Saleh or Shula and pair that guy with Nagy or Stefanski, now that would be something to get excited about around here.

*Paul Kuharsky said on Robby and Rexrode this morning that he expects the Titans to interview Saleh even though they haven’t put the official request out there yet.

Todd McShay 2026 NFL mock draft

Todd McShay has put out his first 2026 NFL mock draft, and he is going against the grain at the top of the draft. He has the Las Vegas Raiders taking Dante Moore, QB, Oregon, with the first pick. Most people believe that the first pick will be Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana (McShay has Mendoza going second to the New York Jets). Of course, one big hangup on this pick is that Moore has yet to declare for the draft. There is some belief that Moore will stay at Oregon after having only been a starter for a year.

For the Tennessee Titans, McShay had the Titans taking Arvell Reese, LB, Ohio State. There is no doubt that Reese is an excellent football player and should be taken in the top 10 of this draft. With that being said, is he a pure EDGE? That’s the biggest question for me about him as we head into this process.

McShay has Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State, going to the New York Giants with the fifth pick. Unless Reese is the second coming of Myles Garrett, I’d rather see the Titans take Tate to give Cam Ward a weapon.

Getting Cam Ward a playmaker like WR Carnell Tate would be tempting here, but Reese is one of the three or four best prospects in the class and he’s just scratching the surface of his potential after his first season as a full-time starter in 2025. At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Reese has an excellent combination of size, speed, power, and bend.

His versatility as an edge defender should add to his value come draft day. I’m not saying he’s the next Micah Parsons, but he’s got a ton of pass-rush upside at the next level.
