Titans vs. Patriots Wednesday injury report

gettyimages-2239793126.jpg

The Tennessee Titans were on the practice field for the first time under Mike McCoy today. McCoy got a nice, soft landing spot for his first contest – the New England Patriots, with Mike Vrabel out for revenge. It’s hard to see a way where this one doesn’t go sideways quickly, but hey, that’s why they play the games, right?

The Titans have a pretty long injury report today:

— Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) October 15, 2025

The usual “it’s only Wednesday” caveat applies here, but I’d be surprised if we see Calvin Ridley in this one. He left the game in the first quarter last week and didn’t practice today.

It is good to see that JC Latham is not on the injury report after returning from a hip injury last week. He didn’t play particularly well, but hopefully that’s just because he was rusty after not playing for a month.

Joey Slye, who missed last week’s game, was listed as a limited participant today. That probably means he has a chance to be back Sunday. If he is, we will see if the injury was really the reason he was so bad against the Arizona Cardinals.

Titans news: Time for a change

gettyimages-2192532245.jpg

Yesterday was the first day that Tennessee Titans players talked to the media since head coach Brian Callahan was fired on Monday. Most of the players gave the PR answer when asked about the firing. That is mostly what you would expect. There were a few, however, that said it was time for a change.

My job is to play quarterback, and my job is to help lead this team to wins,” Ward said on Wednesday. “I am going to support whatever decision we make (as an organization), and the guys in the locker room are going to support it.

  • Largely lost in how bad the Titans have been is the fantastic season that Cedric Gray is having:
Not sure it's been said, but just in case:

Cedric Gray is on pace for 170 combined tackles.

That'd be the most tackles by a #Titans LB since Azeez Al-Shaiir (163) in 2023 and Stephen Tulloch (160) in 2010

22nd most in super bowl era and t-6th since 2000

  • I really like so much of what GM Mike Borgonzi has done so far, but the Jarvis Brownlee trade seems really, really dumb.
The #Jets highest graded player this week was new CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr (90.4)

He was excellent yesterday, & he's only 24 years old

  • PK reported yesterday that there won’t be a tribute video for Mike Vrabel on Sunday in his return to Nissan Stadium with the New England Patriots. That should come as no surprise, considering everything that is going on here. Is this the right call? I think it unquestionably is.
  • I hate that I am already looking at mock drafts for the 2026 NFL Draft, but that is just where this franchise is currently. There were a couple out yesterday that had the Titans taking an EDGE rusher with their first pick. Makes sense.
  • I’m a big Bama fan. Ty Simpson has been really good this year, but slotting him as the first pick in the draft is insane.

Titans vs. Patriots final injury report: Calvin Ridley OUT

imagn-27256018.jpg

Calvin Ridley has been ruled out for the Tennessee Titans game this Sunday against the New England Patriots. That isn’t really a surprise considering he injured his hamstring in the first quarter last week and didn’t practice all week. The Titans will also be without wide receiver Bryce Oliver. Is this the thing that gets Xavier Restrepo on the field? Who knows, but if he does play and has a good game, I’m going to have to be off Twitter for a few days.

Let me be clear, if they do call up Restrepo, I hope he is the second coming of Jerry Rice because that would be great for the Titans. It just seems more likely that after every team passed on him in the draft, and he couldn’t make the active roster here, there is probably a reason.

Also OUT for the Titans are Arden Key and Blake Hance. The Titans are down at least Key and Femi Oladejo from the EDGE group. Dre’Mont Jones has also missed time at practice this week, and will presumably be questionable when the full injury report comes out. Getting pressure on Drake Maye is going to be a problem this week.

I will update with the full injury report when it is released.

Titans have to put themselves in position to need more from Elic Ayomanor

The Tennessee Titans will be without wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Bryce Oliver due to injuries against the New England Patriots on Sunday. That means wideouts like Tyler Lockett, Chimere Dike, and Van Jefferson could see extended workloads. But what it really means is that the Titans need rookie pass-catcher Elic Ayomanor to be really productive versus Mike Vrabel and the Patriots.

The Titans certainly can’t rely on Jefferson or Lockett to do much of note. That places increased pressure on Ayomanor. The offense has put themselves in a position to be very demanding of a fifth-round rookie.

Titans have ruled out WR Calvin Ridley for Sunday’s game vs. the Patriots due to his hamstring injury.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 17, 2025

After scoring touchdowns in back-to-back contests earlier this season, Ayomanor has been quieter in recent weeks. The former Stanford standout recorded two receptions for 18 yards in the stunning victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Drops have been an issue lately. In the embarrassment versus the Las Vegas Raiders, Ayomanor had three catches for 27 yards.

Interim head coach Mike McCoy is making his debut on Sunday. He’ll be tasked with helping rookie quarterback Cam Ward develop. Ward was trending in the wrong direction under Brian Callahan. Part of McCoy’s job will be to ensure Ward has easy-baked completions in a new-look offense. Being without Ridley doesn’t help the plan.

Ayomanor has showcased a ton of potential throughout the campaign. He and Ward clearly possess some chemistry together, as they’ve connected on several off-script plays together. That chemistry has been less evident in recent outings. It needs to make another appearance against the Patriots this weekend.

The Titans lack depth and playmakers at receiver. Veteran offseason additions like Jefferson and Lockett have added nothing to the offense. Without Ridley this weekend, Ayomanor needs to be a focal point of McCoy’s passing attack. We’ll see if Bo Hardegree can consistently get the rookie wideout the ball.

Why Chig Okonkwo and Tyjae Spears are vital to Mike McCoy’s Titans overhaul

gettyimages-2241305942.jpg

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – OCTOBER 12: Chig Okonkwo #85 of the Tennessee Titans warms up prior to an NFL football game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on October 12, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Brooke Sutton/Getty Images)

Interim Tennessee Titans head coach Mike McCoy will make his debut against Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots on Sunday. McCoy is replacing Brian Callahan, who was fired earlier this week. He’s already discussed making changes to the offense throughout his meetings with the media.

McCoy is more of an old-school leader than Callahan was. When pressed for additional information, he’s preferred to keep details regarding what offensive changes he’s implementing under wraps. We’ll receive our first opportunity to assess and judge those changes against the Patriots on Sunday.

Those changes need to include Chig Okonkwo and Tyjae Spears on offense. The Titans will be without wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Bryce Oliver this week. With such few pass-catching options, rookie quarterback Cam Ward needs to trust Okonkwo to make plays on offense.

— Tennessee Titans (@Titans) October 5, 2025

Okonkwo matched a season-high six targets against the Las Vegas Raiders last weekend. The former Maryland standout hauled in all six for 46 receiving yards. Believe it or not, Okonkwo is on pace for a career-high 65 receptions for another personal-best 617 receiving yards. With Ridley out, the Titans need to keep providing him with enough volume to make plays offensively. He’ll be Cam Ward’s most reliable healthy target against the Patriots on Sunday.

Coach McCoy is being asked to help aid Ward’s development. Creating more passing-game opportunities for a yards-after-catch threat like Okonkwo would help. Ward needs to feel comfortable relying on his safety outlets.

In two appearances this year, Spears has rushed for 45 yards via nine carries. He’s averaging a healthy 5.0 yards per carry. Tony Pollard averaged 3.4 YPC versus the Raiders last weekend. The dual-threat Spears also had four catches against the Raiders.

With Ridley sidelined, McCoy’s coaching debut should involve getting speedy, athletic playmakers like Ridley and Spears the ball in space.

Titans to simplify offense for Cam Ward

imagn-27256036.jpg

Mike McCoy is planning on simplifying the offense for Cam Ward, according to Adam Schefter. The Tennessee Titans’ interim coach plans to focus on the things that Ward does well and maximize those. That feels like a really smart first move for him to make.

It sounds like Brian Callahan tried to throw everything at Ward from the jump. That makes sense on one hand, because he probably figured that with Ward’s work ethic and the adaptability he showed in college, he could handle it. That obviously wasn’t working out.

On the other hand, part of the reason Callahan isn’t here anymore is that he couldn’t see that what he was trying to do wasn’t working. This year was always all about Ward’s development. Callahan failed there by not leaning into the things that Cam is comfortable with. Sure, maybe long-term there would need to be more depth to the offense, but it doesn’t have to all happen in year one. Vince Young won a Rookie of the Year award by pump faking and running to his right on every single play. Teams took that away the next year, and he struggled. I say that to point out that you can do a few things really well and succeed in the short-term.

Hopefully, this means the Titans are going to come out in shotgun and run tempo from the jump today.

Mike Vrabel gets his revenge, 31-13 over the Titans

imagn-27370438.jpg

Well, it started off better. The Tennessee Titans got a field goal and a touchdown on their first two drives, respectively. They were even up 13-10 late in the second quarter. Then, like always, the wheels fell off. The New England Patriots scored 21 unanswered points to win 31-13.

Cam Ward threw for 255 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also lost a fumble that went for a New England touchdown. The only thing left to care about this season is Ward’s development. It’s an uphill battle with the lack of talent around him. He was sacked five more times today.

The biggest positive on offense is the rookie pass catchers. Chimere Dike had four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Gunnar Helm had four for 36. Elic Ayomanor had two for 29. Those three are a good corp to build around.

Jeffery Simmons got hurt. This defense is bad with him. They are abysmal without him. Hopefully, he will be back out there because he is playing at an All-Pro level this season.

Titans release Tyler Lockett

imagn-27082436.jpg

Adam Schefter is reporting that Tyler Lockett asked for and was granted his release from the Tennessee Titans. Lockett had not had much of an impact on the field, but it was good to have a veteran presence in the receiver room with so many young guys in that group. This move leaves Van Jefferson as pretty much the lone veteran receiver.

This is the second year the Titans brought in a veteran slot receiver that they hoped could be an asset for a young quarterback. Last year it was Tyler Boyd. Neither guy, Boyd or Lockett, had much of an impact on the field. Hopefully, this offseason they can find a slot guy that actually has some juice to make some plays on the field.

Lockett’s release obviously opens a roster spot. This past week, with Calvin Ridley out, the Titans called up Mason Kinsey. It will be interesting to see if he stays on the 53-man roster. Fans have been clamoring to see Xavier Restrepo, but the team doesn’t seem to have the same level of excitement about him.

Titans need more from T’Vondre Sweat

gettyimages-2190674687.jpg

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat returned to the lineup on Sunday following a four-game stint on IR. Sweat played a healthy 37 snaps in Sunday’s 31-13 Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots. Though it was encouraging to see him back, the Titans should soon expect more of their sophomore defender.

Sweat was credited with recording six solo tackles. He registered his first sack of the campaign (and second of his career) on an excellent rep where he split a Patriots double-team block across the interior. It was vintage Sweat, who needs additional likeminded reps moving forward.

Meatloaf is BACK! @TvondreSweat

📺: #NEvsTEN on @NFLonCBS & NFL+ pic.twitter.com/rFcryEuRl8

— Tennessee Titans (@Titans) October 19, 2025

Outside of the sack, Sweat was largely invisible. His 37 snaps were encouraging, but also likely a result of Jeffery Simmons’ premature exit due to a hamstring injury. Dennard Wilson undeniably asked more of Sweat as the Titans became shorthanded.

Sweat is a run-stopping nose tackle first and foremost. The Patriots rushed for 175 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Rhamondre Stevenson had a season-best day, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown. The dual-threat Drake Maye scrambled for 62 yards on eight carries. There’s plenty of blame to go around, but Sweat was drafted highly to be Tennessee’s premier run stopper.

Sweat has experienced a strange sophomore campaign dating back to training camp. The former Longhorns standout missed sizable portions of the offseason with tonsillitis. Sweat then injured his ankle in Week 1 versus the Denver Broncos. He was placed on IR prior to Week 3 despite claiming he was going to play, leading to a four-game absence.

Sweat made a highlight-reel worthy play via his exciting sack. The rest of his workload was fairly inconsistent. Given Sweat’s peculiar campaign, it’s fair to be concerned and demand more of the sophomore second-round selection. Sweat must recapture his rookie-year form that made him a roster building block.

NFL power rankings week 8 and the Titans

imagn-27379276.jpg

Once again, we are coming off a Tennessee Titans’ loss to look at NFL power rankings. The Titans have actually moved up in a couple these because the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are so bad. With that being said, if the Titans played either of those teams, do you think they would be favored? I don’t. Can you imagine how much fun those games would be to watch?

Here is a look at where the Titans rank in various power rankings around the internet:

ESPN: 31

Dike has become a playmaker for the Titans both on special teams and more recently on offense. Dike wasn’t the primary return man for Tennessee in the preseason, but he now leads the NFL with 816 kickoff return yards, though that has come with a league-high 31 kickoff returns. Entering Week 7, he had three receptions for 26 yards, but he had four for 71 against New England — including his first touchdown on a 38-yard connection with fellow rookie Cam Ward. Dike’s role could increase as a budding relationship with Ward’s begins to influence more opportunities from quarterbacks coach/offensive playcaller Bo Hardegree. — Turron Davenport

CBS Sports: 29

Are they any better than they were a year ago? Nope. Cam Ward isn’t getting it done, but the roster around him isn’t very good.

DraftKings: 31

The Athletic: 30

They have the NFL’s worst point differential (minus-96) by a wide margin. Cam Ward had some nice moments in the team’s first game after Brian Callahan’s firing, but he inexplicably fumbled the ball while trying to pass, which went for a touchdown the other way.

Fox Sports: 30

Signs of life from Cam Ward? The No. 1 overall pick was 25-for-34 for 255 yards and one touchdown and one interception against the Patriots. The Titans even led 13-10 late in the first half before it all fell apart.

PFT: 30

They found a way to make Drake Maye look better than Tom Brady.

  • Three former Titans, Eddie George, Lorenzo Neal, and Gary Anderson, are on the list of 52 candidates to be considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2026. Anderson probably has the best shot to make it of those three.
  • Amy Adams Strunk is reportedly not at the fall NFL owners meeting. That’s another bad look in what has been a string of bad looks for the Titans’ controlling owner over the last few years. I guess she didn’t want to answer questions about the Brian Callahan firing.
  • For all of the talk about Cam Ward, his turnover worthy play rate is only at 2.4%. The problem, as Will Boling points out, is that the turnover worthy plays have been really bad:
Cam Ward has the 11th lowest turnover worthy play rate in the NFL.

Problem is when he has them, they're just VERY turnover worthy. https://t.co/FJ0bEnW7bo

Titans will be missing two defensive starters on Sunday

gettyimages-2239795230.jpg

Mike McCoy said today that Jeffery Simmons will be week to week with the hamstring injury he suffered in the loss Sunday against the New England Patriots. It’s a tough break for Simmons, who had been playing the best football of his career. McCoy didn’t say exactly how long Simmons will be out, but “week to week” usually means at least a couple of games.

McCoy also said that L’Jarius Sneed will miss some time with the quad injury he suffered on Sunday. Sneed missed a couple of months last season with a quad injury. The Sneed trade will go down as one of the worst moves in the history of this franchise. Sneed won’t be here next season. There’s an outside chance we’ve seen the last of him in a Titans uniform.

The Titans are back on the practice field today, so we will get an update on Calvin Ridley at some point this afternoon. He didn’t practice at all last week. I’d be surprised if we see him this week.

Titans place L’Jarius Sneed on IR

gettyimages-2237743440.jpg

In one of the least surprising news items of the day, the Tennessee Titans have placed L’Jarius Sneed on injured reserve. I know it’s only week eight, but I’d be surprised if we see Sneed in a Titans uniform again. It’s not that big of a loss.

The Titans are now without both of their starting corners from the beginning of the season. That means the Titans are going to have a big need at corner heading into the 2026 season. There is talk that Roger McCreary could be traded as well. If that happens, the Titans will need three new corners next season. I’m no roster building expert, but creating holes where there weren’t holes before doesn’t seem like the best way to go about it.

The Titans announced they promoted linebacker Joe Bachie from the practice squad to take Sneed’s place on the 53-man roster. They also signed WR Lance McCutcheon to the practice squad.

Titans news: Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!

gettyimages-1168610662.jpg

I don’t often agree with Jared Stillman, but he opened his show on 440 Sports yesterday talking about the legends of the Tennessee Titans franchise. He said that there are three true legends from the Titans era – Steve McNair, Eddie George, and Derrick Henry. That means it carries weight when one of those guys says something about the team. Now, obviously, McNair is no longer with us, and Derrick Henry is currently playing for the Baltimore Ravens, so Eddie is the only one who could do that.

  • Eddie talked to Mike Organ of The Tennessean and said that Amy Adams Strunk has set the franchise back at least a decade or maybe more with her recent decisions. I’d trust Eddie George when it comes to issues of culture. Maybe AAS can sit down with him and get his thoughts on how to best build that for the Titans.
  • Speaking of culture, there was a story earlier this week that John Harbaugh took all of the fun stuff out of the Baltimore Ravens locker room to cut down on the distractions. That prompted former Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck to share this story:
In 05 we were terrible 4-12…young kats was always playing Mario Kart or some shit in the locker room during break. One time they pause the game to play where they left off after practice!! Mannn I broke that game system to pieces! F that video game and we out here losing!😂🤷🏾‍♂️ https://t.co/h3josGDqu2

— keith bulluck (@kbull53) October 22, 2025
  • Do the Titans have guys on this current roster that would do something like Bulluck did in 05?
  • Roger McCreary said after practice yesterday that he has not had any talks with the team about a contract extension:

  • A funny moment from last night’s Thursday Night Football game:

Jeffery Simmons and Calvin Ridley out for Titans vs. Colts

imagn-26929239.jpg

The Tennessee Titans head to Indianapolis to play the Colts without their best player. Jeffery Simmons is out for Sunday’s game. When the Titans played the Colts in week three, Jonathan Taylor rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns. That was with Simmons on the field. Taylor might go for 202 and four in this one.

Calvin Ridley was also ruled out. This will be his second straight game to miss with the hamstring injury he suffered in the first quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders. The biggest thing the Titans need from Ridley at this point is for him to get healthy before the NFL trade deadline.

Blake Hance and Bryce Oliver were ruled out as well. This is the sixth straight game that Oliver has missed. Just another example of the Titans not putting a guy on injured reserve when he missed four games or more.

I will update this post with the full injury report once it is available.

Steve Sarkisian interested in coaching the Titans

imagn-25162946.jpg

This one is a little bit out of left field for me, but Dianna Russini is reporting that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian’s representatives have let NFL teams know that he is interested in coaching in the NFL. Russini says that interest would include the Tennessee Titans. Of course, just because Sarkisian is interested in the Titans, or any other NFL team for that matter, doesn’t mean that any of those teams would necessarily be interested in him.

I am all for the Titans talking to as many people as possible before hiring their next coach. That should include some current college coaches. Sark is not a guy that I had given much consideration to before this report. He’s obviously done a nice job at Texas, eventhough they haven’t been as good as expected this year.

The Titans are currently the only NFL job open. If Sarkisian is putting that out there now, he clearly does have some level of interest. That would have to mean that he likes Cam Ward. That’s a good sign that the Titans’ job is still going to be attractive, even with the dysfunction from ownership.

Titans fans somewhat concerned about Cam Ward’s perfomance

gettyimages-2242224369.jpg

There was a lot of talk last Sunday about whether or not it was time to be concerned about Cam Ward as the future of the Tennessee Titans. It is no secret that he has not played well the last few weeks, minus the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals. If you are watching the games, you see a mix of bad blocking, bad habits from Ward, and drops.

So, I asked the question this week: how concerned are you about Ward?

Tennessee_2_102325.png

Congratulations! That is a very measured and reasonable response to the question. I, too, am somewhat concerned about his performance to this point.

We also had the standard confidence question:

Tennessee_1_102325.png

Are the 16% of you that are confident still riding the high of Brian Callahan being fired? That’s the only reasonable explanation that I can come with for having any confidence in the direction of this team. It will be interesting to see if the number hits single digits after the Titans get boatraced by the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow.

5 observations from the Titans’ Week 8 loss to the Colts

gettyimages-2243472320.jpg

The Tennessee Titans were defeated 38-14 by the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. The Nashville-based club fell to 1-7. We’ve compiled five observations from the Titans’ latest setback.

Chimere Dike continues to shine

Rookie wide receiver Chimere Dike had his second straight eye-opening performance. Dike recorded seven receptions for 92 receiving yards. He’s been Cam Ward’s to-go receiver since Calvin Ridley exited the lineup with injury. He’s starting to perform like a long-term starter at a position of need.

Cam Ward shows growth

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward performed admirably. Ward completed 22-of-38 passing attempts for 259 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It was important that he didn’t fumble, and his lone INT was a 4th-and-goal desperation throw in a late-game blowout. The No. 1 overall quarterback made shrewd decisions, was accurate, and extended the pocket with his arm/legs.

The defense is terrible

The defense was shorthanded with Jeffery Simmons and Arden Key out of the lineup. Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor predictably took advantage. Mike Borgonzi has quite the task on his hands to revamp the defense this coming offseason. Simmons and Cedric Gray are among the only defenders under contract with redeeming qualities.

Mike McCoy is too conservative

Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy had two questionable, cowardly punts. The first occurred near halftime, and the second gained the Titans 22 yards of field position during the third quarter. Taylor immediately rushed for a long touchdown, effectively ending the game. Ward was visibly upset about the second punt, voicing his displeasure on the sideline.

Tyjae Spears is more explosive than Tony Pollard

Tyjae Spears outproduced Tony Pollard. The former Tulane standout was visibly more explosive than the less-impactful veteran was. Pollard is notably a candidate to be traded near next week’s deadline. Spears rushed for 59 yards and a TD via nine carries, averaging 6.6 yards per carry, including a 41-yard gain that was the offense’s longest run in approximately two seasons.

I need someone to make the value they got back here make sense. This is the second trade they have made where they ended up swapping picks (Jarvis Brownlee was the first). They are giving up assets without actually gaining picks. Sure, they moved up a round, but is that really all they could get for these guys? If it were, then is the trade really worth making?

The Titans get their fifth round pick back that they sent to the Rams when they traded for Ernest Jones IV.

McCreary is no All-Pro, but he is a solid player on a team that doesn’t have many solid players. He is a young player whom they could build around. Now, they have created another need without even adding a pick. Apparently, it is really important for this front office to get rid of any players they didn’t draft.

This tweet really sums up my thoughts on the trades they have made so far:

Hopefully, the Titans can find a couple of promising young corners like Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary with the mid-day 3 picks they got by trading away Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary.

McCreary was a second round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has played in 55 career games for the Titans and has three career interceptions.
