Titans claim four players on waivers

imagn-17016321.jpg

The Tennessee Titans hold the top spot on the NFL waiver wire and have claimed the following four players:

  • DB Jalyn Armour-Davis
  • DB Samuel Womack
  • LB Dorian Mausi
  • DE C.J. Ravenell

Armour-Davis was waived by the Baltimore Ravens yesterday. The former fourth round pick played for current Titans DC Dennard Wilson in 2023.

Womack was a fifth round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. He was with the Indianapolis Colts last season. He had two interceptions.

Mausi signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ravenell was also signed as an undrafted free agent after this year’s draft by the Ravens.

They also signed Clay Webb, an offensive lineman who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos this spring. He can give the Titans some intel on their week 1 opponent.

To make room for the players they claimed, the Titans have cut DT Timmy Horne, ILB Curtis Jacobs, CB Gabe Jeudy-Lally, OT John Ojukwu, and C Corey Levin. They will have to make another move when they officially sign Shy Tuttle and Webb.

Now that the waiver period has passed, the team can start to add players to its practice squad. Our very own Justin Melo has been posting the players they are expected to add. We will have a post with the full list once it is completed.

Titans Reacts Survey

imagn-26905455.jpg

We have seen everything we are going to see from the Tennessee Titans before the regular season starts. The whole focus of this offseason has been Cam Ward. I’ve been trying to temper my expectations on Ward because I have been burned so many times before believing in quarterbacks. With that being said, I find myself getting really hype about the potential with Ward.

Objectively, Ward did not really do anything that fantastic this offseason, but there is just something about him that has me believing that he is the guy. There will be ups and downs this season, but I head into week 1 thinking the Titans have finally found their guy.

Do you feel the same?

Titans sign 14 to practice squad

imagn-26702037.jpg

[UPDATE 9:34 AM] – The Titans have added 3 more to the practice squad:

  • iOL Corey Levin
  • DB Sam Webb
  • iOL Clay Webb

The Tennessee Titans have officially signed 14 players to their practice squad, according to Jim Wyatt:

  • S Kendell Brooks
  • WR Xavier Restrepo
  • RB Jordan Mims
  • RB Jermar Jefferson
  • DT Cam Horsley
  • DT Isaiah Rakes
  • DE Carlos Watkins
  • QB Trevor Siemian
  • WR Mason Kinsey
  • WR James Proche
  • OL Thomas Ojukwu
  • OL Andrew Rupcich
  • DE Ali Gaye
  • DE Carlos Watkins

To this point, all of the guys on the practice squad were in training camp with the Titans.

There have been a couple of other names reported, including Corey Levin, who was a surprise cut yesterday when the Titans claimed four players. Levin played center for most of the offseason with Lloyd Cushenberry recovering from an Achilles injury. My guess is the Titans will sign him to the practice squad and elevate him on game day, but Levin is free to sign with another team. It feels like a big risk.

Of course, the Titans played the same game with Proche, and they were able to get him on the practice squad. He will be elevated to play against the Denver Broncos and will most likely be the punt returner.

Chimere Dike will start the season as the Titans punt returner

gettyimages-2213816297.jpg

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said at his press conference today that Chimere Dike will be the team’s punt returner against the Denver Broncos. Borgonzi added that Dike’s return ability is part of the reason they drafted him. This is a bit of a turn from last week when Titans special teams coach John Fassel said that Dike wasn’t ready to be back there yet.

A lot of people, myself included, assumed that James Proche would be elevated from the practice squad in Denver to return punts. That, apparently, is not the case. It really makes you wonder why Jha’Quan Jackson got so many chances to return punts in the preseason.

Dike returned 14 punts for 187 yards last year for the Florida Gators. The yardage is obviously important for the punt returner, but possibly even more important is the decision on when to catch a punt and when to let it hit the ground. We have seen numerous guys have a problem with that here in the past.

The Titans took special teams too lightly on cutdown day last year, and it showed up in a big way in the first few games – possibly even costing them a win or two. Here’s to hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself this year.

Titans 53-man roster: Best-to-worst position groups

gettyimages-2231563332.jpg

The Tennessee Titans‘ 53-man roster should now be mostly settled for their upcoming Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos. After submitting the initial roster on Tuesday, GM Mike Borgonzi made a flurry of transactions on Wednesday, adding five new players, while also filling out a practice squad.

Looking at the updated 53-man roster, we’ve ranked the position groups from best to worst.

Interior defensive line

The Titans went surprisingly heavy here, adding CJ Ravenell and Shy Tuttle after the roster was initially set to bring them to six total defensive tackles. Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat should form a stout interior duo. Sebastian Joseph-Day and James Lynch give them quality depth throughout.

Offensive line

The Titans went initially heavy, but have since waived Corey Levin and John Ojukwu. Levin has already resurfaced back on the practice squad, and sources indicate Ojukwu will as well, once he clears waivers. The starting five looks stellar, and Blake Hance is a good swing-piece. Borgonzi was afraid undrafted tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson would get claimed on waivers, so he was the surprise 53-man roster inclusion.

Safety

Dennard Wilson’s defense is deep at safety. Amani Hooker is probably a top-five performer on the team. Veterans Xavier Woods and Quandre Diggs are starting-caliber players. Kevin Winston Jr. is an exciting rookie, and Mike Brown is a depth-worthy defender (and really good special teams player).

Running back

Tony Pollard was the unsung hero of the 2024 Titans. Having Tyjae Spears on IR hurts this group, but the coaching staff trusts Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings. Getting Jordan Mims and Jermar Jefferson back on the practice squad eliminated the need for a waiver claim at RB.

Quarterback

It’s all about Cam Ward. Who cares that Brandon Allen is the backup, or that Trevor Siemian landed on the practice squad? The Titans’ 2025 campaign is all about developing Ward. Hopefully this becomes a top-three position group due to his rookie performance by season’s end.

Cornerback

This position group arguably has the largest range of outcomes. If L’Jarius Sneed is healthy and recaptures his previous form, it could be better than this. If Sneed is injured or a non-factor, it could be a bottom-two unit. The Titans need a sizable step forward from Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Contributions from Darrell Baker Jr., Samuel Womack, and Jalyn Armour-Davis would help.

Tight end

A stellar, but unspectacular group. Chig Okonkwo will make the occasional splash play as a 550-yard TE. Gunnar Helm carries a lot of potential as the future of the position. David Martin-Robinson won the TE3 battle, and Thomas Odukoya is on the practice squad.

Linebacker

It wouldn’t be shocking if the linebackers leaped ahead of TEs and CBs on this list. What started out as a concerning group looks far more promising after training camp and the preseason. Cody Barton has been an excellent offseason addition, and both James Williams and Cedric Gray appear to be ascending talents.

EDGE

The Titans’ pass-rush (lack thereof) may be their Achilles heel in 2025. Borgonzi didn’t claim anyone off waivers, surprisingly, and should continue analyzing the veteran market (Preston Smith?) for a worthwhile addition. There’s just not enough talent between Arden Key, Femi Oladejo, Dre’Mont Jones, Jihad Ward, and Jaylen Harrell.

Titans captains, injury updates and other Titans bullets

gettyimages-2230784860.jpg

Now that all (at least most) of the roster dust has settled, it’s time to get into the regular flow of the NFL season. The Titans are practicing this week, but we won’t get an official injury report until next Wednesday. That is when it will really start to feel like the season is here.

  • The Titans named seven captains for the 2025 season on Wednesday:

— Tennessee Titans (@Titans) August 27, 2025
  • Of course, the most notable name there is Cam Ward. A lot was made of a rookie quarterback being named captain. I’m not sure why it was a surprise. Everything we have heard about Ward is that he has acted like a captain since the minute he was drafted.
  • The Titans were back on the practice field on Thursday. There will be no official injury report from that practice, but some notable players did not take part:
Kalel Mullings and JC Latham no practice today. Kevin Winston was back on the field, but did not do any team drills. T'Vondre Sweat, L'Jarius Sneed and Lloyd Cushenberry all full participants.

— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 28, 2025
  • Callahan didn’t seem concerned about JC Latham being ready for week 1 – said Latham is dealing with general soreness.
  • Tony Pollard says the leadership on the Titans is better this year than it was last year:
Tony Pollard said it was “iffy who the leaders were” on last year’s #Titans. Much better now. pic.twitter.com/SfyA1jz5dB

— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 28, 2025
  • T’Vondre Sweat has been out the last couple of weeks because of an injury. He was back on the practice field today. The Titans EDGE group is nothing short of a disaster. If they are going to get pressure on the QB, a lot of it is going to have to come from the interior. The guys there are pretty good. Hopefully, Sweat can take a big step forward as a pass rusher this season.
  • Jersey numbers for the new players on the Titans:
Numbers for new Titans: Jalyn Armour-Davis 18; CJ Ravenell 91; Shy Tuttle 90; Samuel Womack 35; Dorian Mausi 54.

Should the Titans sign S Jabrill Peppers?

gettyimages-2189466463.jpg

The Tennessee Titans are preparing for Sunday’s Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos. Head coach Brian Callahan met with the local media on Monday to discuss preparations. If general manager Mike Borgonzi is going to make any last-minute roster additions, now’s the time.

The Titans can certainly use another EDGE, but Borgonzi seems satisfied with the current group. Another potential opportunity arose when the New England Patriots released veteran safety Jabrill Peppers last week. The question was posed to me via social media, if the Titans should consider signing Peppers.

#Patriots HC Mike Vrabel on S Jabrill Peppers’ release:

“[Scheme] was certainly not the issue. There’s a lot of reasons… We’re gonna try to do what’s best for the team… That’s a decision we had to make and again, I wish the best for Jabrill.” pic.twitter.com/pb2tQqNJc9

— Carlos A. Lopez (@LosTalksPats) September 1, 2025

Dennard Wilson’s defense appears deep at safety. That unit should start out with Amani Hooker and Xavier Woods as the starters. Rookie Kevin Winston Jr. missed a large portion of training camp, but could ramp-up his practice participation this week. Quandre Diggs is also an unknown commodity after re-signing with the team a few weeks ago. Diggs suffered a season-ending foot injury last year.

Mike Brown is currently the fifth safety on the roster. If Winston Jr. and Diggs are healthy and productive, the Titans should be productive at safety. If those two struggle with availability or form, the Titans could be lighter at safety than we realize.

Peppers started 26 of his 38 games across three seasons as a versatile defensive back in the Patriots defense. He registered 178 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and recoveries each, and one sack. Ironically enough, it’s former Titans head coach and current Patriots leader Mike Vrabel who made the stunning decision to release one of his captains and alleged starters.

The Titans should be deep enough at safety to pass on an opportunity to sign Peppers. They’ve been intentional with Winston Jr.’s recovery from a partially torn ACL, and the defensive coaching staff believes in Diggs’ continued production. The Titans don’t need Peppers.

Titans look incredibly healthy heading into Week 1

gettyimages-2190674687.jpg

The Tennessee Titans are preparing for Sunday’s Week 1 opener versus the Denver Broncos. Brian Callahan’s team is practicing and getting ready. Though the first official injury report will arrive on Wednesday, the Titans appear incredibly healthy heading into Sunday’s showdown at Empower Field at Mile High.

T’Vondre Sweat is practicing in full after missing an extended period of time with tonsillitis. Sweat was sidelined for multiple padded practices towards the conclusion of training camp. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson refused to discuss a snap-count plan in detail, but he is expected to be generally healthy.

Center Lloyd Cushenberry is practicing in full. His recovery from a season-ending Achilles injury has been pretty remarkable. It’s looking likely that Cushenberry will start at center. He’s probably very motivated to play since he previously played for the Broncos. The Titans have Corey Levin at center on the practice squad just in case, and he’ll probably be a standard gameday elevation regardless of Cush’s status.

#Titans RT JC Latham is back st practice today after missing the last few practices. T'Vondre Sweat, Kevin Winston Jr., Kalel Mullings, L'Jarius Sneed, Lloyd Cushenberry all practiced. Game week is indeed upon us.

— TURRON DAVENPORT (@TDavenport_NFL) September 1, 2025

L’Jarius Sneed has also been a full participant at practice. It appears the Titans approached him with more caution than necessary this offseason. Perhaps Sneed won’t play 100 percent of snaps at cornerback, with Darrell Baker Jr. and Marcus Harris among the options to occasionally spell him.

JC Latham also returned to practice after missing a few sessions with hip soreness. Callahan was never concerned about his availability. Latham and the new-look Titans’ offensive line will face a massive challenge against the Broncos’ stout defensive line.

Rookie safety Kevin Winston Jr. is also practicing. The Titans spent the previous few weeks managing his return from a partially torn ACL suffered at Penn State last season. Fans were concerned because Winston went from practicing to resting. But it appears the Titans were following a carefully laid out approach.

Titans preseason increases fan confidence

gettyimages-2229517578.jpg

This week in our Reacts question, we asked how the preseason affected your confidence in the 2025 Tennessee Titans. 55% of you said the preseason increased your confidence in this team.

Tennessee_1_082625.png

That’s how I voted. Of course, I came into the preseason with pretty much non-existent expectations. I was a fan of the Cam Ward pick, but as I said numerous times, I’m not getting too high or too low on him until I see what he does when the games actually matter.

With that being said, his performance so far has certainly been encouraging. He has done and said all of the right things. His preseason was encouraging. There were some rookie mistakes, but there were also some big-time throws.

One word of caution: if Sunday doesn’t go well, don’t jump ship. Cam Ward is facing a very good Denver Broncos defense on the road for his first NFL start. There’s a common saying out there, “Week 1 is a liar.”

Titans vs. Broncos opening odds

gettyimages-1470073510.jpg

Game week is finally here! The Tennessee Titans head on the road to take on the Denver Broncos in Cam Ward’s first real test. The NFL didn’t do him any favors, facing off against a really tough defense on the road. The Titans start the week as a 7.5-point road underdog over at FanDuel Sportsbook. Honestly, I am a little bit surprised that the number isn’t bigger.

Last year, the Broncos’ defense was 6th in the NFL in yards allowed at 317.1 yards per game and third in points allowed at 18.3 points per game. They also led the league in sacks with 63. That was nine more than the second place team. Go get ‘em, kid!

The Denver offense was also surprisingly good last year. Bo Nix was a whole lot better than I expected him to be. Maybe that is because I only watched him play at Auburn and ignored his Oregon numbers. Either way, he was really good last year in Sean Payton’s offense. It stands to reason that he will be even better in year two. Nix did struggle a little bit when pressured, but the Titans are going to have a tough time pressuring quarterbacks this season.

I’d love to tell you the Titans are going to pull off the upset here, or even that they can cover the 7.5, but I don’t feel good about either.

Titans-Broncos: 3 matchups that will help decide Week 1

gettyimages-2226662505.jpg

The Tennessee Titans finally begin their 2025 season against the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s Week 1 matchup. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward will make his long-awaited debut and the Titans get to test-drive a new-look roster that underwent severe turnover this offseason. With a tough assignment versus the Broncos looming large, we’ve identified three matchups that could help decide Sunday’s outcome.

Calvin Ridley vs. Patrick Surtain II

The Titans are excited about the chemistry displayed by Ward and Calvin Ridley this offseason. They routinely connected at training camp and carried that momentum over to the exhibition. In one preseason possession together, they produced three receptions for 50 receiving yards. They couldn’t be facing a more difficult matchup to start. Broncos No. 1 cornerback Pat Surtain II is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and will spend a bunch of his snaps trying to eliminate Ridley.

Titans offensive line vs. Broncos pass rush

General manager Mike Borgonzi spent premium dollars to fix the offensive line this offseason, signing Dan Moore Jr. and Kevin Zeitler in free agency. The Titans are excited about their new-look offensive line, and they’ll undergo a trial by fire in Week 1. The Broncos recorded an NFL-high 63 sacks last season and didn’t lose any pass rushers of note, and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is back as well. Nik Bonitto, Zach Allen, John Franklin-Myers, and Jonathon Cooper help make-up a deep arsenal of pass rushers. Furthermore, the altitude and atmosphere will be difficult in Denver. Bill Callahan’s O-line must answer the bell to protect their rookie quarterback.

L’Jarius Sneed vs. Courtland Sutton

L’Jarius Sneed was a non-participant for a large portion of the offseason after undergoing a clean-up procedure on his knee. He was eventually activated off the PUP near the conclusion of training camp and has been practicing regularly ever since. All signs indicate Sneed will compete on Sunday for the first time since last October. If there’s any holdover rust, a matchup with Denver’s go-to boundary weapon Courtland Sutton could prove difficult.

Titans vs. Broncos week one injury report

gettyimages-2178239775.jpg

The official injury report for the Tennessee Titans’ week one game against the Denver Broncos is not out yet, but Brian Callahan gave some injury designations for players in his press conference today. L’Jarius Sneed, who practiced on a limited basis all week, will be listed as questionable. My guess is that he gives it a go, but who knows how effective he will be. Sneed hasn’t even completed a full practice in almost a full calendar year.

Dan Moore was on the injury report on Wednesday with an ankle injury, but is off the injury report now and will play. That’s good news, considering he’s a pretty important player to this team in 2025.

The news is not as good on rookie safety Kevin Winston, Jr. He is doubtful to play with a hamstring injury. Winston has been held out for a couple of weeks now. It is important to note that he is also coming back from an ACL injury that ended his college season last year at Penn State.

Rookie RB Kalel Mullings has not been on the injury report on Wednesday or Thursday, but Callahan said he is questionable as well.

Here is the full injury report for both teams:

Five most important Titans for 2025 not named Cam Ward

imagn-26929239.jpg

I was listening to Robby and Rexrode on 102.5 this morning, and they did a list of their five most important Tennessee Titans for the 2025 season not named Cam Ward. We all know that the most important thing for the Titans this season is to see Ward progress and hopefully become the franchise quarterback this team has been searching for since Steve McNair.

Here are my 5 most important Titans for 2025:

Dan Moore

The Titans have had a problem with at least one of their offensive tackles for a long time now. They signed Moore to a 4-year $82 million contract this offseason. Signing Moore allowed them to move last year’s first round pick, JC Latham, to right tackle, which is the position he played in college. The best way to help Ward succeed is to protect him.

Calvin Ridley

The Titans don’t have a lot of weapons on offense. Ridley has the ability to be one of the ten best receivers in the league. His chemistry with Ward has been really good. If the Titans are going to have a chance to be good on offense this season, they need Ridley to be healthy and good. The second best way to help Ward succeed is to surround him with weapons.

Jeffery Simmons

Just like on offense, the Titans don’t have a lot of great players on defense. Simmons is supposed to be a great player, but he hasn’t produced like that in the last couple of years. He showed up to camp this year in “the best shape of his life.” Now we need to see that translate to All-Pro level production in the pass rush. The Titans are bad at EDGE. If they are going to pressure quarterbacks this season, they are going to have to do it from the interior.

Femi Oladejo

As I said above, the Titans are bad at EDGE. They spent a second round pick on Oladejo, who has all the tools, but is raw as a pass rusher. How quickly can this staff help him use those tools to get the quarterback on the ground? They’d better hope it’s sooner rather than later.

L’Jarius Sneed

Of the 5 on this list, I have the least confidence in Sneed, who missed the majority of last season with a quad/knee injury. He also missed the majority of the offseason recovering from a procedure on his knee. If the Titans’ defense is going to have any chance to stop anyone, they are going to have to cover well. Sneed is the most talented corner on the team. Will he be available?

Who would you add to the list?

Titans sign Amani Hooker to contract extension

gettyimages-1848715963.jpg

The Tennessee Titans announced today that they have signed safety Amani Hooker to a three-year, $48.6 million contract extension:

The #Titans and S Amani Hooker have a deal, his agent @jackbechta announced. pic.twitter.com/0z7lkRj9nm

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 6, 2025

Hooker has been a really good player for the Titans. Last year, he led the team with 5 interceptions. The only thing that has held him back has been injuries. He played in 16 games in his first two seasons, but has not played a full season since.

Hooker was a fourth-round pick by the Titans back in 2019. He has played in 80 games over his six years with the team and has 12 interceptions.

The Titans have a really solid safety room right now with Hooker, Quandre Diggs, and rookie Kevin Winston as the headliners. Winston is doubtful for tomorrow’s game with a hamstring injury. He is also recovering from a torn ACL from last year when he was still at Penn State. The Titans are really high on Winston, and extending Hooker gives them the opportunity to be really good at safety for a long time.

Brian Callahan apparently doesn’t know the rules

gettyimages-2231582879.jpg

Brian Callahan was asked in his press conference after the Tennessee Titans’ 20-12 loss to the Denver Broncos why he didn’t challenge this deep pass from Cam Ward to Elic Ayomanor that was ruled incomplete:

One elbow equals two feet

This was a catch#Titans pic.twitter.com/BypVY4sVmA

— Wes Wisley (@TitansStats) September 8, 2025

He said it was because Ayomanor only got an elbow in bounds and that he needed to do more for it to be a catch. That is factually incorrect, as Paul Kuharsky laid out here:

#Titans coach Brian Callahan said Elic Ayomanor's sideline catch required not just an elbow in bounds but also a foot.

That's factually incorrect.

From the rulebook, "A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the…

— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) September 8, 2025

To summarize: One elbow equals two feet.

It is really inexcusable for Callahan not to know that is the rule. I have been rooting for Callahan to succeed as the head coach here, but he had a horrible game today. From not knowing this rule to some of the playcalling today – especially the series right before halftime.

With that being said, there is still time for Cally to rebound here. This is just one game in what is a long season. There is still plenty of time for him to prove that he can coach, but he is not off to a good start.

He needs to get it together soon. With the reports that the front office considered a fresh start last offseason, there isn’t much room for Callahan to have games like he did today.

Pissed off for greatness: Titans week 1

This year, after a loss, I am going to try an article where I gather some #takes from around the internet where people are just losing their minds. There will probably be some that I agree with and some that are just flat out crazy. This week, we will start with the #FireCally movement that is really gaining steam on Twitter.

Idk if it’s an exaggeration to say Callahan’s the worst coach in the NFL since Urban Meyer. I am not kidding I would fire him tomorrow.

Get him as far away from Cam as possible and let Dennard Wilson finish out the season running the show.

— Jake (@JakeAndBall) September 7, 2025

It’s tough to argue with anything he said there.

I mentioned this on the Livestream yesterday but again, another reason why Im out on Brian Callahan is the he often admits HE IS THE PROBLEM.

How in the world does he tell Kristina Pink that he, the OC/HC, was getting plays in LATE to Cam?? Literally making it harder on Cam. pic.twitter.com/ZbZz4upDvA

— Section240 (@Section_240) September 8, 2025

Brian Callahan is the opposite of Mike Vrabel in that he is an open book. He just puts it all out there. Maybe he is trying to help out Cam Ward here by pointing the blame at himself, but come on, man. You are the playcaller tasked with putting your rookie first overall pick quarterback in a position to succeed.

Sure, he called a horrific game offensively, his team committed 131 yards worth of penalties, and he outed himself as not understanding NFL rules, but congrats to Brian Callahan for covering the spread for the third time in his 18 games as head coach!

Next, we move onto the narrative that the outcome of the game would have been different yesterday if Xavier Restrepo.

It wasn’t just Jake pointing this out. I heard a caller on the radio saying the same thing this morning. There’s a reason Restrepo didn’t make the roster, and no one claimed him after he was cut. I’m not saying he will never be good, but he wouldn’t have made one bit of difference in the outcome of the game yesterday.

The Titans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory today.

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said at the end of his opening statement at today’s press conference that he misinterpreted the rule that states that an elbow is the same as two feet, and that he should have challenged the play:

It’s hard to see how one could misinterpret that rule, but Callahan took ownership of his mistake. That would have been all well and good, except he backtracked on that later in the presser, saying that he misspoke and that he knows the rule:

Well, now I’m confused. Did he misinterpret the rule, or did he misspeak?

Again, I appreciate Callahan’s candor. He is one of the most open coaches in the NFL, but it would have served him well to just point back to the statement he made at the beginning of the press conference here instead of trying to defend his knowledge of the rules.

It’s hard to know what to think at this point, but my takeaway here is that Callahan did not know that one elbow equals two feet – especially considering that in the post-game presser yesterday, he said that Elic Ayomanor would have needed to get a foot down for it to be a catch. It’s hard to fathom that a guy who has been in the NFL for more than 15 years wouldn’t know that rule.

Titans vs. Rams opening odds

Say what you want about Brian Callahan, but he covered the spread last week for just the third time in his 18 games as an NFL head coach. No one in their right mind would have bet on the Tennessee Titans +8.5 against the Denver Broncos, but there are plenty of people not in their right mind out there, so some people probably made some money on the Titans on Sunday. Are you willing to re-invest that hard-earned money on the Titans this week, +5.5 against the Los Angeles Rams? That’s the opening number over at FanDuel Sportsbook.

I do like that number better than the Broncos’ number. The Titans are at home this week, and while the Rams do have a really good defense and pass rush, it is not as good as what they faced last week. Cam Ward also now has a start under his belt, and though the final numbers weren’t good, he did a lot of good things in that game. You can see a scenario where he gets a lot better from week to week early in the year.

The Rams also don’t have Patrick Surtain, so Calvin Ridley should have an easier time getting open in this game. Now, whether or not he can catch the ball when it is thrown to him is a different story.

I wouldn’t put any money on the Titans ever, but especially not right now with all of the uncertainty around this team. Which side of this bet would you take?

Cam’s tape, Sneed’s pitch count and other Titans bullets

Wednesday is typically the day we start to look towards the next opponent. That is the Los Angeles Rams for the Tennessee Titans this week. But before we do that, there are still a few things worth noting from last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos.

  • Dan Orlovsky was really impressed with Cam Ward’s debut. He went as far as to say that the Titans would have won the game if not for the drops.

  • Ben Solak also had good things to say about Ward’s debut, highlighted by the fact that he did not get much help from his supporting cast.
  • So much has been made of the fact that L’Jarius Sneed played all of his snaps at the beginning of the game. I’m no doctor, but it seems to me it would make sense for him to play all of his snaps at the same time because you don’t want him to warm up, cool down by standing on the sidelines for a while, and then have to get warmed up again to go back in the game. That would be asking for a soft tissue injury to happen, IMO.
  • Blake Beddingfield broke down the tape from the game and pointed out that the offensive tackles didn’t play very well. That’s pretty disappointing considering the amount the Titans have invested in those guys with a big contract for Dan Moore and a first round pick for JC Latham.
  • Along those lines, Bill Callahan is supposed to be an offensive line guru. I was willing to cut him some slack last year based on the guys he had to work with, but shouldn’t we start to see some progress now that you have good players across the offensive line?
