Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder had a big night on Monday, scoring 51 points over the Houston Rockets.

Not only did his team walk away with their latest win, but Gilgeous-Alexander also earned a place in league history.

According to NBA History, Gilgeous-Alexander became just the 12th player ever to score four or more 50-point games in a season.

He joins the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor, James Harden, Kobe Bryant, and others.

Could this season get any better for Gilgeous-Alexander?

The answer, of course, is yes.

Gilgeous-Alexander is on track for his first MVP trophy at the end of the season and his team will most definitely be the top seed in the West when the playoffs begin.

That means he could be just months away from winning a title for the first time.

So even though Gilgeous-Alexander is putting up historic numbers, things might actually be improving soon.

He might be the most important player for his Thunder, but the team is filled with a number of great stars.

The team’s success this season wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for everyone involved, not just Gilgeous-Alexander.

This is his seventh season in the league and he is doing better than ever before.

He is also currently leading the entire league in points per game at 32.6 a night.

In other words, everything is going right for Gilgeous-Alexander right now, and there is every reason to believe that will continue.

He was already possibly on his way to winning MVP and a championship, and now he sits in the history books alongside some of the biggest names to ever enter the NBA.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Gets Honest About His Recent Big Performance

Oklahoma City Thunder v Atlanta Hawks

The Oklahoma City Thunder are the best team in the Western Conference, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might be the best player in the NBA.

He’s certainly the frontrunner for this year’s MVP and has been having some amazing games lately.

On Monday, Gilgeous-Alexander talked about his recent track record via NBA on X.

He said the numbers are important and something to be proud of, but “you play the game to win.”

Gilgeous-Alexander made it clear that all he really cares about is earning a victory, and while putting up over 50 points is nice, it doesn’t matter as much as a win.

"You play the game to win."@shaiglalex doesn't concern himself with the numbers if they don't result in wins

During Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 51 points and seven assists.

For the season, he is averaging 32.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists on 52.5 percent from the field.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been a player to watch for years now, but this is his biggest season yet and he’s earning more attention and praise than ever before.

That’s partly because his Oklahoma City Thunder haven’t been this good in years.

They are easily the top team in the Western Conference and hold a 50-11 record.

For comparison, the second-place Los Angeles Lakers are 38-21.

At this point, it is very likely that Gilgeous-Alexander will win his first MVP this year, but that’s not what it’s all about for him.

Instead, his main goal is to get his team to the Finals and for them to win their first ring.

Gilgeous-Alexander is elated by how well he’s been playing, and so are the Thunder fans.

But he isn’t playing to score more points than anyone else; he is playing to win.

The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Houston Rockets on Monday evening, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander gave fans another jaw-dropping performance.

The sharpshooting star couldn’t be stopped and a lot of people took note of his incredible stat line.

Because of how well he played, Shannon Sharpe spoke at length about Gilgeous-Alexander on “Nightcap” and said he should win this season’s MVP.

He said the trophy is his to lose and even though others, such as Nikola Jokic, are playing well, the Thunder star should finally be crowned the league’s most valuable player.

Unc & Ocho both agree that they need to give Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the MVP trophy after dropping 51 points on the Rockets

Gilgeous-Alexander gave the Rockets a massive headache during Monday’s game.

He scored 51 points and seven assists, shooting 60.0 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from the three-point line, and 100 percent from the free throw line.

It was a great game for the Thunder star, and he has had many of them this year.

The 26-year-old guard is averaging 32.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game, shooting 52.5 percent from the field night after night.

Sharpe is right to praise Jokic as well, but Gilgeous-Alexader is the odds-on frontrunner to be MVP this year and it’s an honor that has been years in the making.

He came in second place in the race for MVP last season, and he’s been playing even better this year, which makes this choice rather easy right now.

To make matters even better, his team is easily the most dominant one in the West, so there is a good shot that Gilgeous-Alexander is MVP and earns his first title too.

Someone could surpass Gilgeous-Alexander between now and the end of the season, but it seems unlikely when he is having games like this one.

Thunder meet reported trade criteria for Suns superstar Devin Booker in potential mega deal

What makes the Oklahoma City Thunder so scary is that they are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and have the assets to improve. The Thunder have young talent, draft assets, and their payroll isn't too high. If Oklahoma City wants to win a title at all costs, one player that could be within their grasp is Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker. The Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin revealed what the Suns would want for Booker if he became available.
