De’Aaron Fox is now with the San Antonio Spurs, and he’s ready to get started.
The newest Spur sent a message to all fans on Wednesday morning, decked out in his uniform and telling everyone that he would see them on Wednesday for the game against the Atlanta Hawks.
He reminded fans that the Spurs wouldn’t be home for a while, but he is clearly prepared to play hard right away.
For the last few weeks, we heard rumors of Fox wanting to leave the Sacramento Kings.
And as those rumors grew, others about him yearning for a place on the Spurs’ roster popped up everywhere.
Eventually, it became very clear that Fox was eager to be in San Antonio, and he finally got his wish.
But now that he’s a member of the team, it’s time for him to find his place in the lineup and figure out how to help them improve.
Fox could be a major boost to the Spurs and he has been averaging 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, shooting 46.9 percent from the field.
The idea is that he will build a great partnership with Victor Wembanyama and give him even more support.
That could take the Spurs to the next level and make them playoff contenders.
Right now, San Antonio is the 12th team in the West with a 21-26 record, and that means they have some work to do before the playoffs roll around.
Will Fox be the difference-maker and the key to the postseason?
Or does San Antonio’s front office need to do a bit more work before Thursday’s trade deadline?
He is now with his team and looks enthusiastic and driven.
What can this new-look Spurs team do?

The San Antonio Spurs just made a franchise-altering move by acquiring De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, sending away Zach Collins, Tre Jones and picks in a bold trade that signals their playoff ambitions.
With Victor Wembanyama already turning heads, Fox’s addition creates one of the most exciting young duos in the NBA.
After eight seasons wearing No. 5 with the Kings, Fox will need to switch his number in San Antonio as rookie Stephon Castle already claims it.
Fox reportedly will sport a number with significant Spurs history as it was worn by an NBA Finals MVP.
“De’Aaron Fox will wear No. 2 for the Spurs, per Don Harris (of News4SA). Last worn by Kawhi Leonard,” Legion Hoops wrote on X.De’Aaron Fox will wear No. 2 for the Spurs, per @DonHarris4![]()

Fox’s offensive prowess makes the trade particularly exciting for San Antonio. The team has long struggled with guard play, and he represents a transformative solution.
In recent seasons, he’s emerged as one of the NBA’s top guards, bringing elite offensive skills that should complement Wembanyama perfectly.
Their potential two-man game looks exceptional on paper.
Fox’s vision and passing ability could unlock Wembanyama’s potential in ways few NBA players can match.
The partnership promises to inject new energy into a Spurs franchise hungry for playoff relevance.
As Fox joins Wembanyama, San Antonio fans have every reason to be optimistic.
This trade isn’t just about adding talent. It’s about building a potential championship foundation for years to come.

The San Antonio Spurs gave up some depth and assets to get De’Aaron Fox.
However, they’re still in a position to get much better for years to come.
As reported by Evan Sidery of Forbes, they still have a plethora of assets they could potentially trade to land another star.
The Spurs still possess enough future assets to eventually chase another star to pair alongside Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox:
2025 = Own + unprotected Hawks 1st
2026 = unprotected swap with Hawks
2027 = unprotected Hawks 1st
2028 = top-1 protected swap with Celtics
2029 =… pic.twitter.com/gTVgkWJYYD
— Evan Sidery (@esidery) February 3, 2025
The Spurs have their own first-round pick and an Atlanta Hawks first-round pick in 2025.
They have an unprotected pick swap with the Hawks in 2026 and the Hawks’ unprotected first in 2027 from the Dejounte Murray trade.
Then, they have their top-1 protected swap with the Boston Celtics in 2028, plus their own first-rounder in 2029.
If that wasn’t enough, they have unprotected swap rights with the Dallas Mavericks or Minnesota Timberwolves in 2030 and an unprotected swap with the Sacramento Kings in 2031.
De’Aaron Fox hasn’t emerged as a superstar but is a borderline perennial All-Star.
His ability to drive and attract defensive attention to the rim will give Wembanyama plenty of scoring opportunities.
They should also be deadly in the pick and roll.
Furthermore, this will allow Chris Paul to be efficient and lead the second unit, acting as an extension of the coach whenever the reserves are out there.
They also succeeded in retaining a promising guard like Stephon Castle, and his pairing with Fox in the backcourt looks promising since he has the potential to become one of the best defensive guards in the league.
The Spurs have a bright future ahead of them, but the present also looks quite exciting.

The San Antonio Spurs just made a huge move.
They landed their point guard of the future in De’Aaron Fox, and they did so without having to give up any of their core pieces.
That’s why Skip Bayless believes it’s time for Victor Wembanyama to show up.
The controversial analyst went on an eleven-minute rant about how the former No. 1 pick needed to ‘put up or shut up’ now that he has an All-Star-caliber point guard by his side.
It's "put up or shut up" time for Wemby pic.twitter.com/Cuv0GdNjnk
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) February 3, 2025
Truth be told, it’s hard to ask more of Wemby in just his second season in the league.
He leads the league in blocks and is a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, all while averaging a double-double.
The Spurs were among the worst teams in the league last season, and they have hovered around .500 basketball this year despite the absence of legendary coach Gregg Popovich.
That kind of turnaround was possible because of Wembanyama.
The Spurs are now one of the odds-on favorites to make the playoffs after this move, and the best part about it is that they could still make more trades.
They also managed to keep Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul, both of whom will continue to provide essential veteran leadership and experience, even if they are not part of their long-term plans.
Wembanyama has been more than good on both ends of the floor since he entered the league.
He’s played according to expectations, and if someone disagrees with the eye test or the numbers, they might not be paying attention.

Two of the biggest, most powerful stars in the NBA met on Friday night, as Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks played against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
It was a wild game with many great highlights, including a particular three-point shot that was talked about all night long.
Bleacher Report shared the video of a hard-to-believe three from Wembanyama over Antetokounmpo’s head.
Even with tough defense and the shot clock winding down, Wembanyama was able to get past Antetokounmpo and rattle in a great shot.

That wasn’t the only amazing thing Wembanyama did on Friday night, because he also produced 30 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks on the way to beating the Bucks 144-118.
Wembanyama has improved just about every part of his game in his second season, including his three-point shot.
In his rookie year, the Spurs star averaged 32.5 percent from beyond the arc, nailing 1.8 of his 5.5 attempts per game.
This year, he is averaging 35.8 percent, sinking 3.3 of his 9.1 attempts.
He is obviously trying to score more threes and is working hard to enhance that part of his skill set.
It seems to be working.
Being guarded by Antetokounmpo is never easy, even for a player as large as Wembanyama.
His ability to figure out a way to overcome Antetokounmpo’s massive size and wingspan is a testament not only to Wembanyama’s physical skill but also to his mindset.
He is becoming a more talented and smarter player and is being very strategic in his approach to scoring.
In a season already filled with many sensational moments from Wembanyama, this might be the most amazing yet.

Before “The Alien,” there was “The Unicorn.”
Kristaps Porzingis spoke with NBA TV on Friday night after his Boston Celtics defeated the New Orleans Pelicans.
But before they dug into that game, Porzingis and the hosts talked about Victor Wembanyana of the San Antonio Spurs, who just had a stunning performance.
Porzingis called Wembanyama “unreal” and said he is doing things NBA fans and players haven’t seen before.

It’s very hard to argue with that.
The Spurs star posted 30 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks in Friday’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
For the season, he is averaging 24.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, and a league-high 4.0 blocks.
Many people have talked about him as this season’s Defensive Player of the Year, but he could also be in the running for MVP with numbers like that.
Again and again, Wembanyama has blown away the competition and fans with his amazing powers.
The fact that he is only getting better just makes him more impressive.
He is figuring out his skills and the improvements are obvious.
Porzingis was no slouch on Friday night in his game against the Pelicans, putting up 16 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
After missing a lot of time because of an injury, he is back and ready to help his team compete and attempt to return to the Finals.
Porzingis is very impressed by Wembanyama and he’ll be able to see his abilities up close soon because the Celtics will be traveling to San Antonio to take on the Spurs on February 12.

In just his second season in the NBA, 21-year-old 7-foot-3 center Victor Wembanyama has already become a borderline superstar and an All-Star, and he’s only scratching the surface of what he can become over the next several years.
He still seems to be in a discovery phase on offense, but defensively, he’s leading the league with 3.9 blocked shots a game, and in Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, he established an outstanding string in that category.
He has now blocked at least one shot in 85 straight games, which is the longest such streak since Hall of Fame center Dikembe Mutombo did so in 116 consecutive games in the mid-1990s, per ClutchPoints.

— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) February 13, 2025
With his eight-foot wingspan, Wembanyama is a nightmare on defense, and he has been nicknamed “Alien” and “The Extra-Terrestrial” because his height and length almost seem inhuman.
He’s also averaging 11.0 rebounds a game, and on offense, he isn’t doing too badly with his average of 24.4 points per game on 47.7 percent shooting from the field and 35.5 percent from 3-point range.
His San Antonio Spurs came into Wednesday with a 23-29 record, which has them in 12th place in the Western Conference, but with star guard De’Aaron Fox in place after a big trade with the Sacramento Kings, they seem to have a real shot at making the playoffs.
One has to be in amazement when they think about how much better Wembanyama will be in just two years when he will only be 23 years of age and still several years away from merely entering his prime.

Thursday features the final slate of games in the NBA before the league starts its annual break that coincides with All-Star weekend, and for those who will not participate in the festivities in San Francisco, it will be an opportunity for them to rest and reset before the stretch run.
Although plenty of people still expect the Boston Celtics to repeat as world champions, there is lots of parity across the league right now, and besides the handful of teams that have a shot at winning it all, there are a few underrated teams that could make some noise in the playoffs.
Colin Cowherd said that one team — the San Antonio Spurs — belongs in that second group as a squad that can make a postseason run, per the Volume.

San Antonio has a 21-year-old monster in Victor Wembanyama, who is already playing at a borderline superstar level in just his second season in the NBA.
Last week, they made the trade that will likely set them up for success as soon as next season and possibly even championship contention when they acquired star guard De’Aaron Fox, and he is forming a terrific duo along with Wembanyama.
While the Spurs have won just two of their first five games with Fox and are in 12th place in the Western Conference with a 23-29 record, they still have a real shot at reaching the play-in tournament.
They’re currently just three games behind the Golden State Warriors for the 10th spot in the West.
Should the Spurs reach the play-in tournament and/or the playoffs, no one will want to face them, as Cowherd said, since it would mean up to seven games of dealing with the 7-foot-3 Wembanyama and one of the deadliest crunch-time performers the NBA has in Fox.

The San Antonio Spurs have one of the best players in the NBA with Victor Wembanyama, the reigning Rookie of the Year and potential Defensive Player of the Year this season.
But they aren’t content to remain the same and want to capitalize on the talent of their young roster.
According to new reporting from Jake Fischer, via Legion Hoops, the Spurs have “envisioned pairing Josh Giddey” of the Chicago Bulls with Wembanyama “down the road.”
REPORT: The Spurs have envisioned pairing Josh Giddey with Wemby down the road, per @JakeLFischer pic.twitter.com/jxdwFJ9vB5
— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) January 31, 2025
Giddey is a 22-year-old versatile player who could enjoy many more years in the NBA.
He could help form a long-term partnership with Wembanyama that might lead the Spurs to multiple playoff runs and maybe a championship.
This year, he has averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists for the Bulls, shooting 44.2 percent from the field.
This is his first season with the Bulls after three years playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He has fit in well with the Bulls rotation, but the team might be on the verge of changes and trades.
Will they part ways with Giddey and send him to the Spurs or is that something they’d do in the future?
This news confirms that the Spurs are eager to help Wembanyama and get him more support.
It’s just a matter of who they pursue and when they do it.
They might trade for De’Aaron Fox this season or in the summer, but maybe they take a different route.
No matter what happens, they will try to acquire players who can work well with Wembanyama and become the team’s second option.

In just his second NBA season, Victor Wembanyama is truly tapping into his vast potential and starting to live up to the massive hype that surrounded him when he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
He’s averaging 24.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and a league-high 3.9 blocked shots per game this season, and it is scary to think how much better he will be in just a couple of years when he will still be years away from entering his prime.

Wembanyama still seems to be in somewhat of a discovery phase offensively, as nearly half of his field-goal attempts have come from beyond the 3-point line, but he has greatly increased his two-point shooting accuracy and is already an all-around nightmare for the rest of the league.
He gained 25 pounds during the offseason, and combined with his 7-foot-3 frame, he is a befuddling foe to go up against.
Even though his San Antonio Spurs don’t have much viable talent around him, they’re chasing the Sacramento Kings for the 10th spot in the Western Conference.
Right now, the hot rumor is that Kings guard De’Aaron Fox could get traded before the NBA deadline and that the Spurs are his preferred destination.
A Fox-Wembanyama partnership would mean lots of trouble for the rest of the league for years to come, and such a duo could end up hanging at least one championship banner.

Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs is having a very busy weekend.
On Friday night, he was named the 2025 Rising Stars MVP after leading his Team C to the Rising Stars title.
He will now participate in Sunday’s All-Star Game mini-tournament.
But before he does that, Castle has another event on his schedule: the Slam Dunk Contest.
When asked by Scott Campsall about potentially scoring a three-peat this weekend with the Rising Stars game, Dunk Contest, and the final All-Star game, Castle had a brief answer.
“Get back to me tomorrow after I win the dunk contest,” he said, per Legion Hoops.Stephon Castle on a potential 3-peat during All-Star weekend:

Castle sealed the deal during the Rising Stars game when he scored a 15-foot stepback shot.
That secured his title as Rising Stars MVP and brought him a ton of praise.
Now he is focusing on the Slam Dunk Contest before he moves on to the All-Star Game on Sunday evening.
The Dunk Contest will bring in millions of viewers because it is usually the most exciting event of All-Star weekend and it gets people talking with its viral, flashy moments.
Will Castle earn even more fans after the event?
He is already having a standout rookie season, averaging 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on 42.0 percent from the field.
There are many people talking about Castle as a Rookie of the Year contender, and if he continues to play well this weekend, he could be a frontrunner for that prize when the All-Star break is over.
No matter what happens at the Slam Dunk Contest and the All-Star Game, Castle is going to continue to generate a ton of buzz.

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game is rolling out an innovative format, transforming into a thrilling four-team tournament.
NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith have each drafted their squads, while the fourth team will be coached by Candace Parker, featuring the winners of Friday’s Rising Stars Challenge.
At the center of attention is San Antonio Spurs’ phenom Victor Wembanyama, making his All-Star debut at just 21 years old after being the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The French sensation will suit up for Chuck’s Global Stars alongside NBA stars Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Wembanyama’s mindset heading into the event has caught everyone’s attention. During NBA All-Star Media Day, he made his intentions crystal clear.

His competitive spirit is exactly what the NBA has been hoping to inject back into the All-Star Game.
The league’s new format aims to spark that fire – three games, no game clock, first to 40 points wins, and compact eight-player rosters.
It’s designed to bring back the competitive edge that fans have been missing.
Wembanyama’s rookie campaign was nothing short of spectacular, clinching NBA Rookie of the Year honors and finishing as runner-up in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
With his unique combination of size and skill, Wembanyama enters the All-Star tournament as a serious contender for MVP honors, regardless of how fierce the competition gets.
This reimagined All-Star format, coupled with Wembanyama’s competitive drive, promises to deliver the kind of intense basketball showcase fans have been craving.

The NBA’s All-Star Weekend is officially over, and the season is slated to resume in just a few days.
This is not only an opportunity for players to rest and relax ahead of the second half of the season, but it’s a chance for some of the league’s best players to come together and show the world what they can do.
It’s also a great way for players to network and play together, an opportunity to see what their chemistry is like with athletes on other teams.
The NBA recently shared a video of a locker room interaction between Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic before the All-Star Game, with Jokic in disbelief that Wembanyama brought a book to the locker room.

Wembanyama didn’t see it as a big deal, noting that reading books is a ritual that he takes part in before every game.
Everybody has their ways of getting their head in the game, so to speak, and Wembanyama seemingly likes to unwind with a book.
It might seem like a counter-cultural thing to do, but Wembanyama is a different type of player, so it makes sense that he might try something different to get in the right headspace.
Whatever his routine is, it’s working, as the San Antonio Spurs have been on a roll lately.
Adding De’Aaron Fox into the fold beside Chris Paul and Wembanyama has been a great move for the Spurs, who will look to make the playoffs this year for the first time since 2019.

The San Antonio Spurs delivered devastating news when they announced that Victor Wembanyama will likely miss the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old phenom has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, a condition requiring blood-thinning medication that makes it unsafe for him to play.
The issue came to light after Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following his All-Star Game appearance, shifting all attention to his health and recovery.
ESPN insider Shams Charania shed more light on the situation, revealing that Wembanyama started experiencing symptoms after the All-Star break.
When rest didn’t alleviate the concerns, the Spurs moved quickly to investigate further.
“He was still feeling symptomatic, for my understanding, and that’s when the Spurs and when Wembanyama started to administer a battery of tests over the last 24 to 48 hours that found this blood clot in his right shoulder. And the sides are now going to huddle on treatment plans and options for a player who is just 21 years old and an ascending star,” Charania said on “NBA Today.”Spurs star Victor Wembanyama recently felt symptomatic and hoped he would feel better when he took downtime after Sunday's All-Star game. Despite this significant setback, there’s a silver lining in the Spurs’ outlook for their young star.
The team maintains strong confidence in Wembanyama’s recovery, expecting him to return at full strength for the 2025-26 season.
Medical experts view this as an isolated incident without broader health implications.
They point to Brandon Ingram’s similar experience in 2019, where he had treatment and bounced back to All-Star form the following season.
With proper medical care, Wembanyama appears positioned to follow a comparable recovery path and return to dominating the court.
The focus now shifts to ensuring he receives the best possible treatment and support during this unexpected challenge in his promising NBA journey.

Last season’s race for NBA Rookie of the Year had a clearcut frontrunner with Victor Wembanyama, but that isn’t the case right now.
In 2024-25, there are several stars in the running for this highly coveted trophy.
Speaking on “Run It Back” on Thursday, Chandler Parsons talked about who will win Rookie of the Year.
He said that Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs will get the prize and confirmed that San Antonio’s future is very bright.
He said the fact that the Spurs can bring a Rookie of the Year candidate off their bench is a sign of just how much potential they have.

Last year, the Spurs were simply attempting to rebuild and sit in awe of what Wembanyama was capable of.
Things are different this year, and they have more to fight for.
The Spurs are the 12th team in the West which means they are currently battling for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Playoff supremacy seems far-fetched right now, but that might not be the case in a few years.
Castle is averaging 12.9 points per game this season, shooting 42.0 percent from the field.
In the seasons ahead, he will get better, Wembanyama will continue to develop, and other stars such as De’Aaron Fox will help the Spurs improve.
Castle is one of the many reasons why people think the Spurs’ next chapter will be an exciting one.
He has a lot of competition for Rookie of the Year but is clearly in the mix for the prize.
Regardless of whether he wins or not, everyone agrees the Spurs have a plethora of talent in their lineup.
