No. 22 Zack Ostapchuk: A sneaky skillset

Zack Ostapchuk is one of the newest additions to the San Joe Sharks’ organization, coming at the 2025 trade deadline in the deal that sent Fabian Zetterlund to Ottawa. Originally, he was drafted 39th overall by the Senators in 2021. Ostapchuk is a big, physical forward who’s been working to establish himself as a full-time NHLer. Last season, he split time between Ottawa, the AHL, and the Sharks.

No. 21 Cole McKinney: Room to grow

Cole McKinney is one of the exciting newcomers heading into the San Jose Sharks’ system. He was drafted in the second round, 53rd overall, in 2025 by the Sharks. He came off an impressive season with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP), where he led the team in scoring and proved he’s more than just a puck-chaser. Since he’s brand new to the organization, he didn’t rank on our list…

No. 20 Jack Thompson: Defenseman with the vision

Jack Thompson joined the San Jose Sharks at the 2024 trade deadline. He went from Tampa Bay to San Jose in the swap that sent Anthony Duclair the other way. Last season, he split time between the Sharks and the Barracuda, scoring 10 points in 31 NHL games and showing flashes of his offensive upside. He’s dropped down our list since the last time we ranked the Sharks prospects…

No. 19 Leo Sahlin Wallenius: Evolving defensive defenseman

As with most of the young defensemen on this list, it will be a few seasons before we see what Leo Sahlin Wallenius can truly do for the San Jose Sharks. Fans will have to be patient as they wait for the 53rd overall pick in 2024 to develop because he’s not coming in to solve San Jose’s problems on defense this season or even in the next few seasons. Sahlin Wallenius is continuing to develop his…

No. 18 Haoxi Wang: Defenseman worth waiting for

One of the more exciting additions to the prospect pool this summer was defenseman Haoxi Wang, who the San Jose Sharks selected in the second round at 33rd overall in the 2025 draft. He is known for his impressive mobility for his 6’6″ frame, but is still a somewhat raw talent. As we mentioned with Leo Sahlin Wallenius in the last post, defensemen take a longer time to develop, so it will be a few…

No. 17 Ethan Cardwell: A steady rise through the ranks

Ethan Cardwell’s journey to the San Jose Sharks started when he was selected in the fourth round, 121st overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. After finishing up an impressive junior career with the Barrie Colts of the OHL, he then made the jump to the San Jose Barracuda, where he spent his first full professional season in 2023–24. San Jose Sharks acquire Carey Price, 5th round pick

Five or ten years ago, it might have been a headline that would have had San Jose Sharks fans falling all over themselves, but today, it’s barely a blip on the radar. The Sharks have traded with the Montreal Canadiens, taking goaltender Carey Price and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft for defenseman Gannon Laroque. The trade is no surprise. The Canadiens needed to dump salary.

No. 16 Cam Lund: On the right track

Cam Lund’s journey to the San Jose Sharks has been all about steady development and proving himself at each new level. Drafted 34th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, Lund came into the organization after a strong year with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, where he put up 50 points in 62 games. From there, he committed to Northeastern University and made a name for himself in college hockey.

No. 15 Eric Pohlkamp: Creeping into the conversation

One of the players to make a jump up our list this season is defenseman Eric Pohlkamp, who has been steady on the backend at every level he’s played at so far and seems to be solidifying himself as a potential defenseman on a future Sharks team. Pohlkamp, with an impressive slapshot from the point, made a statement at the rookie showcase game at Tech CU Arena over the summer. He netted himself a…

No. 14 Kasper Halttunen: A leaner and meaner forward

Coming in at 14th on our Top 25 San Jose Sharks Under 25 is 20-year-old Kasper Halttunen. The Finnish forward has taken longer to develop than some might have liked, especially after looking so promising on his draft day in 2023. While his NHL-caliber shot is still something to marvel at, the rest of his game has not developed at the speed that Sharks fans would have liked.

No. 13 Joshua Ravensbergen: Sharks’ future in net?

Joshua Ravensbergen is one of the newer names to pop up in the Sharks’ system, and he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on. San Jose picked him up in the 2025 draft, snagging him in round one, 30th overall. He’s a goalie, which means it’ll take some time before we see him anywhere near the NHL, but the foundation is there. Last year, he spent the season in junior hockey, showing flashes of calm…

Capable of quarterbacking a power play, launching precise outlet passes to generate rushes and causing pure chaos in the offensive zone, Cagnoni represents a breed of defensemen not seen in San Jose since the days of Dan Boyle. No. 9 Quentin Musty: Growing his game

Quentin Musty has been one of the most hyped Sharks prospects since the team grabbed him 26th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. He was a star with the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL, showing off a mix of skill and size that made him stand out in his draft year. Last season was a little messy for him; he missed time early with injuries and had some off-ice stuff like a trade request, but he still managed…

Sharks sign former first round pick Wahlstrom to PTO

The San Jose Sharks have added a former first-rounder to the training camp roster. The Sharks have signed 25-year-old Oliver Wahlstrom to a Professional Tryout (PTO). Wahlstrom was a bit of a journeyman last season. He played for the New York Islanders, the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2018. Partway through the 2024-25 season, Wahlstrom was placed on waivers and claimed off of waivers by…

No. 8 Igor Chernyshov: San Jose’s next power forward?

Coming in at number 8 on Fear the Fin’s Top 25 Sharks Under 25 is Igor Chernyshov. Chernyshov was 12th on our list last season, and we would not have faulted him if he had dropped down the list, given what he has gone through in the past 12 months. After all, there was a lot going against the forward. Not only was he adjusting to North American ice after playing his entire life in Russia…

No. 7 Shakir Mukhamadullin: Ready for a full-time NHL role

Shakir Mukhamadullin is a big, smooth-skating defenseman who has quickly become one of the more intriguing pieces in the San Jose Sharks’ rebuild. Originally drafted 20th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2020, he made his way to San Jose as part of the Timo Meier trade in 2023. Since then, he’s been one of the Sharks’ top defensive prospects and started getting NHL games under his belt.

Mario Ferraro is Playing for More Than Just the Sharks This Season

Mario Ferraro has long been one of the Sharks’ emotional leaders and a steady presence on the blue line as an alternate captain. This summer, he took on a new role — becoming a dad for the first time. And if you know anything about Ferraro, you know that this just adds fuel to his fire. Ferraro called fatherhood “the best thing in the world” and said his family feels “very blessed.
