News Sharks Team Notes

Every Sharks move on day 1 of free agency 2025

The San Jose Sharks were slow to make news on the first day of NHL Free Agency, but ultimately, the team made some noise and filled some of its most glaring needs and, possibly more importantly, helped the team get a little closer to that cap floor. But the biggest news on the first day of free agency wasn’t a free agent signing at all, but the re-signing of forward William Eklund.

Way too early look at the Sharks forward lines

With the 2025 NHL Entry draft in the books and most of the major free agency signings done, the San Jose Sharks forward lines look like they are, for the most part, set for the start of training camp. There is, of course, the potential for trades that could change things, but this game of sorts is creating lines based on who the Sharks have in the fold right now, assuming training camp were to…

2025 NHL Draft: Getting to know Teddy Mutryn

Now that the free agency window has died down a bit, we can jump back into some of the players that the San Jose Sharks drafted in the later rounds of the NHL draft. The Sharks had some downtime between the 53rd overall pick and this one, 95th on the board. So, the team had time to think. What it came away with was Teddy Mutryn, an 18-year-old power forward out of the U.S. National U18 Team.

Sharks trade for Ryan Reaves

As has been rumored for a few days now, the San Jose Sharks have started to clear out the log jam on defense, just not in the way that fans ever would have expected. General Manager Mike Grier announced on July 10 that the team had traded defenseman Henry Thrun to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Ryan Reaves. It’s a player-for-player trade with no other players or picks exchanging…

Mukhamadullin Needs to Earn an NHL Roster Spot Next Season

Defensemen can take quite a while to develop and become regulars at the NHL level; that’s not a secret in the world of hockey. With that being said, though, at 23 years of age, Shakir Mukhamadullin had already shown what he can accomplish at the American Hockey League level; now it’s time for him to do so in the NHL. It’s been five years since Mukhamadullin was drafted 20th overall in the…

2025 NHL Draft: Getting to know Zachary Sharp

Overagers have been a theme with the San Jose Sharks in the later rounds of the draft, especially on the backend and Zachary Sharp is no exception. It’s hard to fault the plan considering how well things have seemed to work out for 2023 overaged draft pick Eric Pohlkamp. Pohlkamp most recently excelled at the prospect scrimmage, netting a hat trick and giving Sharks fans heart palpitations at the…

Sharks sign Jeff Skinner to one-year deal

The San Jose Sharks said the team wanted to add a top-six forward, and it appears that General Manager Mike Grier has found one, albeit a borderline one. The Sharks announced on July 11 that it was signed Jeff Skinner to a one-year deal worth $3 million. Skinner is a 33-year-old forward who scored 29 points (16 G, 13 A) in 72 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season. Skinner has 699 career…

San Jose Sharks sign depth goaltender Jakub Skarek

The San Jose Sharks added to the team’s goaltending depth on July 10, signing 25-year-old Jakub Skarek to a one-year deal worth $775,000. Skarek was not offered a new contract by the New York Islanders when his most recent deal ended and looked like he was headed to Finland to play hockey until General Manager Mike Grier made the call. Skarek fills what Grier felt was a gap in the Sharks’…

2025 NHL Draft: Getting to Know Ilyas Magomedsultanov

With the 115th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks took a swing on defenseman Ilyas Magomedsultanov out of Loko Yaroslavl in Russia’s MHL. Admittedly, AI gave us a bit of help on this one, but we believe his last name is pronounced ma-go-MED-sul-ta-NOV. He’s a bit of a mystery to North American fans, but he brings a calm, physical presence to the blue line that could eventually pay off…

2025 San Jose Sharks as sharks

As the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week comes to a close, we’re casting the San Jose Sharks players as sharks, the non-hockey-playing types. Since sharks (the swimming ones) come with personalities just like Sharks (the players), we figured we would try to guess what some of our Sharks players would be if they were to come back as sharks. Writer’s note: The Gili Shark Conservation in Indonesia…
