Three wins in a row against Vegas, Colorado, and New Jersey. That's a pretty solid stretch right there. Beating the league-leading Avalanche at home was impressive, but honestly the whole week has been a nice turnaround after that Carolina loss.

Good to see Ullmark back in net against the Devils too. Reimer played well against Colorado but having Ullmark healthy again gives them options down the stretch when they really can't afford to drop many games.

Still a long climb to get back into playoff contention - 10 points is a lot to make up - but at least they're showing some fight. The penalty kill sitting at 30th in the league is concerning though. That's the kind of thing that'll bite them in tight games if they don't figure it out.

Curious to see if Bourgault can stick around and contribute. Getting that call-up with Halliday out is a decent opportunity for him.

Game Day – Senators Travel to Pittsburgh to Visit Penguins

With just three games left before the three-week long Olympic break, the Ottawa Senators have life.

Three straight wins over the Golden Knights, Avalanche and Devils have the Sens suddenly feeling pretty good about their game again. Still a long climb back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture but big ol’ steps in the right direction.

The Senators will look to keep it rolling as they kick off a three-game road trip with a stop in Pittsburgh to see Sidney Crosby’s Penguins.

Could be one lineup change for the Senators as Thomas Chabot is being called a game-time decision. The plan is to have seven defenceman take the warm-up and make a call at puck drop. Let’s assume same as Saturday night for now.

Batherson-Stützle-Giroux
Tkachuk-Cozens-Greig
Amadio-Pinto-Zetterlund
Halliday-Eller-Cousins

Linus Ullmark gets a second straight start in goal.

Puck is dropping at 7:08 PM. TSN5 and TVA Sports have the broadcast. TSN1200 and 104.7 FM have the radio call. Friendly internet pirates have the internet streams.

A closer look at tonight’s match-up courtesy of something widely referred to as “the best statistical table in most of Eastern Ontario”. Damn. High praise.

Game Day – Senators Visit Hurricanes in Carolina

Do they have your attention yet?

Last night, the Ottawa Senators reeled off a fourth straight win, this time finding a way to grind out a 3-2 win over the surprisingly red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins. It looked pretty familiar actually. Give the other team next to nothing, score a big goal when you need it most and get a save or two along the way. It’s been a simple formula for the Sens the last little bit and it’s working.

They’ll look to keep it rolling as they visit one of the top teams in the National Hockey League, the Carolina Hurricanes.

No Game Day skate for the Senators today but would assume we see a similar lineup although would not be surprised to see Matinpalo draw in for Jensen on defence.

Game Day – Senators Visit Flyers Ahead of Olympic Break

This feels like a big one.

Honestly, with only 26 games left in the regular season, they are all fairly large. But considering the way the last game ended and considering it will be a good three weeks until we see our Senators again, it feels like this is damn close to a must-win. In fact, yep, it’s time…Tonight is without a doubt…

THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR.

The Ottawa Senators head into the Olympic break with a Thursday night showdown against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Here is how the Senators might line up tonight. Maybe a last minute switch involving the Olympic-bound Nikolas Matinpalo? We shall see a little closer to game time.

Senators Recall Three from Belleville

Not to be dramatic but the idea of writing, reading or even thinking about hockey today makes me physically ill.

From the moment that shot entered the net yesterday, I have been doing my very best to stay offline. It makes it easy to kind of pretend the whole thing never happened. But it has been brought to my attention that I am the sole operator of a hockey-related website and for that reason, the show must go on!

This morning, the Senators announced that they have recalled a handful of guys from Belleville of the American Hockey League.

ROSTER UPDATE: Tyler Boucher, Stephen Halliday and Carter Yakemchuk have been recalled from the @BellevilleSens.

MISE À JOUR: Tyler Boucher, Stephen Halliday et Carter Yakemchuk ont été rappelés des @BellevilleSens.https://t.co/uwKcny1Rll

— Sens Communications (@Media_Sens) February 23, 2026

All three are on the ice for practice today.

The Senators next game comes on Thursday against the Detroit Red Wings. It goes without saying I think but the Olympians on the roster best be ready for that one because with just 25 left to go, every game is massive.

Easing back into things.

Game Day – Senators Return to Host Red Wings

This is my hobby and I engage in this activity because it brings me happiness and joy.

It has been three long weeks since we last saw our Ottawa Senators. Sure some of them turned up in Italy and on Fox News from time to time but it has been 21 days since they all engaged in an organized game of ice hockey. In my opinion, that is too damn long.

There is no easing back into things for the Sens. With just 25 games left in the regular season, they need to come out swinging. They sit six points back of the Boston Bruins for that final spot in the Eastern Conference and it’s going to take a whole lot of winning to close that gap over the next couple months.

The Ottawa Senators host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night in Kanata.

Some lineup intrigue ahead of this one. Tim Stützle was absent at the AM skate but it does sound like Travis Green is hopeful that he can go. Stützle is officially being called a game-time decision. Because I do not care for the look of the line combinations without him, I am leaving Timmy in his usual spot on the top line. Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson were on the ice this morning and both of ’em will play.

Game Day – Senators Visit Leafs on Saturday Night

The clock is ticking.

Just 24 games remaining in the regular season and the Ottawa Senators are in a hole. As of puck drop on Saturday, the Sens sit a full seven points back of the Boston Bruins for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. And with no head to head games left against the Bruins and Boston playing some of their best hockey of the season, it’s a long shot.

It has to start with a big ol’ Saturday night win over the rival Toronto Maple Leafs though. Not a “must win” by the literal definition but this feels like a game they gotta have.

Tonight kicks off a stretch of five straight on the road, including stops in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Seattle and Vancouver. If the Sens are gonna drag themselves back into the playoff picture, it will have to include some strong efforts away from home.

We’ll confirm this lineup after the morning skate.

Game Day – Senators Continue Road Trip in Edmonton

Watching that game on Saturday night in Toronto, it’s pretty easy to see why people haven’t completely given up on the Ottawa Senators this season.

They went into Toronto and completely dominated the Maple Leafs. Start to finish. The Captain of the Leaves called it embarrassing but it’s something we have seen a lot from the Sens this year. When they are on and when goaltending isn’t soul-crushingly bad, they can completely control a hockey game.

But with 23 games left to play and the Trade Deadline looming, the Senators are in a hole. Five points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and three teams in the way. Just keep winning.

The Ottawa Senators head West to visit Connor McDavid and the Oilers on Tuesday night in Edmonton.

Game day skate won’t be until a little later today because of whatever the heck time zones are but this does seem like a situation where the Sens will roll out the same lineup as the other night. We’ll confirm later today.

Deadline Day on SensChirp

Steve Staios has a reputation as being a patient man. You gotta earn a nickname like Steady Steve.

Yet has we have seen in various times during his tenure in Ottawa, he’s not afraid to make a splash. Splashy Steve just never caught on the same way though.

And that is part of the excitement heading into this year’s Trade Deadline.

Thanks to a big win last night in Calgary coupled with a Bruins loss in Nashville, the Ottawa Senators are officially IN the playoff race. A once insurmountable gap is now down to just four points and the timing could not be better.

The Sens have been loitering right on that bubble between buyer and seller and with that win last night, it’s safe to say that the Senators could do a little bit of shopping on Deadline Day.

They got to work early yesterday.

In acquiring Warren Foegele from the Los Angele Kings and shipping David Perron to the Detroit Red Wings, we get a good sense of where Staios and the Sens brass are at heading into the day – willing to shop if it helps for a playoff push this year and beyond and open to moving out expiring deals if it adds an asset and mostly leaves the current roster in tact.

Thanks for everything @DP_57!

Wishing you all the best in Detroit

Game Day – Senators Travel to Seattle on Saturday Night

So these are your Ottawa Senators. For better or worse.

The NHL Trade Deadline came and went yesterday and in the end, GM Steve Staios decided to dance with the one that brung him. Warren Foegele is in and David Perron is out but other than that, Staios likes what he has. Or maybe just didn’t want to pay what it would take to change it up. Either way, the 21-game push for a playoff spot starts now.

The Ottawa Senators continue their five-game road trip as they visit a Kraken on Saturday night in Seattle.

There is work to be done. Heading into Saturday’s action, the Senators sit four points back of the Bruins for the final playoff spot in the East. The Bruins play an early one today so that could change by puck drop. Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings are holding the third spot in the Atlantic and are eight points clear but the Sens have a couple games in hand. Columbus is home to the Utah Mammoth. Either way, a chance to gain some ground tonight.

Won’t know the lineup until a little bit later but there are possible changes up front and on the blueline.

The Senators snuck Kurtis MacDermid in against the Flames but it seems unlikely he dresses for a second straight game. Warren Foegele is expected to join the team in Seattle although it wasn’t immediately clear if he would play. Stephen Halliday was a healthy scratch against the Flames. Meanwhile on the blueline, Nikolas Matinpalo could be an option.

To be confirmed later in the day.

Game Day – Senators Return Home to Host Canadiens

This one kind of speaks for itself.

After a spectacular road trip where the Sens racked up 9 of a possible 10 points and willed themselves back into the playoff race in the Eastern Conference, they now return home to take on a Division rival. And with just 19 games left in the regular season and all the teams they’re chasing playing well, this is a game the Sens desperately need.

The Ottawa Senators host the Montreal Canadiens on a slippery Wednesday night in Kanata, Ontario.

The out-of-town scoreboard sucked pretty hard last night which makes tonight a “just keep pace” kind of thing. The Senators are three back of the Blue Jackets and five back of the Bruins but they have games in hand on both. They’re six back of the Red Wings with a couple in hand and a head-to-head match-up on the horizon. Just keep winning.

The Senators are on the ice for a morning skate at the CTC and it seems like they’ll roll the same lineup as the other night in Vancouver. Something like this.

Batherson-Stützle-Giroux
Tkachuk-Cozens-Greig
Cousins-Pinto-Amadio

League Modifies Sanction Against Senators

There aren’t many things that are going to help with the sting of last night’s loss but the NHL is trying.

This morning, the league announced that they have shown the Ottawa Senators an unexpected bit of leniency for the Evgeni Dadonov fiasco.

Instead of losing the pick entirely, the league announced today that the Senators will pick 32nd overall in the 2026 Entry Draft in addition to having to pay a fine of $1,000,000. So not completely off the hook but not nearly as harsh as the original punishment.

This always felt like a reasonable conclusion to this strange chapter but the league definitely made Michael Andlauer sweat it out a little bit. From the organization’s stand point, they probably would have liked to know this a couple weeks ago and especially heading into the Trade Deadline. Better late than never though.

You can see the full announcement from the league below.
