Las Vegas Raiders have big trip to South Florida coming up

Tom Brady

The future of the Las Vegas Raiders may take shape in Miami early next week,

The team’s brass, led by part owner Tom Brady and general manager John Spytek, will be traveling to South Florida to watch Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the National Championship game against Miami. It will kick start a process that is currently expected to end with Mendoza being the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Raiders in April.

While in Miami, the Raiders will be working on their other major task this offseason — finding a new head coach.

According to multiple reports the Raiders will interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for the opening. He was recently fired. He is getting other head-coaching interest and is also a hot offensive coordinator candidate. McDaniel is the 14th reported candidate for the job.

He is the ninth offensive coach and fourth candidate with head-coaching experience.

While the Raiders have cast a wide net in their search, there are signs it is moving along in the process. Several reports stated the Raiders will have a second interview with Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Florida. Monday is the first day teams can talk to NFL employees in person. Evero is the first known candidate to get a second interview with Las Vegas.

Curt Cignetti shoots down Las Vegas Raiders head coach rumors

Fernando Mendoza, Curt Cignetti

With the Las Vegas Raiders looking for a new quarterback and head coach this offseason, many have speculated that Indiana’s combination of Fernando Mendoza and Curt Cignetti could continue working together in Las Vegas.

The Hoosiers are playing for the College Football National Championship on Monday night, and the Raiders are expected to use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 on Mendoza. So, keeping that head coach-quarterback together is a intruiging option for many in Raider Nation.

However, ahead of the title bout against the Miami Hurricanes, Cignetti shot down any rumors about him making the jump to the pros.

“I’m not an NFL guy. I made that decision a long time ago when I went with Chuck Amato to NC State in 2000. I had a chance to go with the Packers,” Cignetti said Saturday, Jan. 17 from CFP media day in Miami (h/t Indy Star’s John Leuzzi). “… I declined the opportunity. I almost took it. That’s when I made the final decision, and I’ve always been more of a college football guy.”

The 64-year-old, who turns 65 in June, has been in coaching since 1983 and has never left the college ranks. Also, he signed a contract extension with Indiana earlier this season. So, keeping the Mendoza-Cignetti tandem together with the Raiders always seemed more like a hypothetical connection than a legitimate option. Meanwhile, the organization is moving on to second interviews with candidates this week, holding a few meetings in Miami as the team’s brass watches its next quarterback, presumptively, on Monday night.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Draft Scouting: Elijah Sarratt

imagn-27916613.jpg

Position: Wide Receiver

Height: 6’2

Weight: 214

Stats: 2025 (14 games) – 62 receptions, 802 yards, 15 touchdowns, 12/26 contested catches

Class/Age: Senior (22)

Team: Indiana

Positives:

Sarratt has been highly productive in his career between St. Francis, JMU, and now Indiana logging a career 237 receptions, 3630 and and 44 touchdowns with a career 1213 yards after the catch and a 68% contested catch rate though that number has fallen a little bit in recent years since being 79% in 2023. Sarratt has a massive physical frame but doesn’t win with just pure size. He’s got smooth, natural route running with good ability to drop and sink his hips, jab at the key of the route and then explode out of his cuts to make a play and separate from the defensive back. Sarratt shows an immense ability to win with his size, route running, and overall athletic ability paired together. He shows an innate ability to high point the ball and go outside of his frame to make a play near the sideline or over the middle where he’s physical enough to absorb contact and consistently utilize his athletic style to adjust to YAC opportunities. Sarratt is able to naturally have a strong feel for the chains, consistently finding his way to break at the key and alongside the line of scrimmage with a career 177 first downs on 237 receptions. Additionally, Sarratt does a phenomenal job going to the ball with his hands and keeping it out of his chest and frame to prevent ill time drops. Additionally, Sarratt showcases subtle initial explosion and a good release that allows for him to be a dominant receiver off the line of scrimmage and into initial contact at the route where he’s physical enough to fight off majority of defensive backs. Sarratt has capable long speed with the ability to not take the top off a defense but he’s able to effectively play downfield and be a consistent three phase receiver. Sarratt also showcases good instincts and knowledge at the position with an ability to utilize head fakes, body movements, and an ability to identify coverages to find soft drops.

Elijah Sarratt is going to make some team very happy early in round 2.

Physical as hell and wins at the catch point through contact more often than not.
pic.twitter.com/ikTAkO8Scg

— Dynasty FF Wolf (@DynastyFFWolf) January 10, 2026

Weakness:

Sarratt doesn’t have a ton of elite long speed, and likely will be a consistent 4.48-4.54 40 guy, he does struggle to be a long downfield receiver but will work well intermediately. Sarratt will need to also improve how he is jammed off the line of scrimmage as initial physical contact can sometimes cause him to be shaken in his route concept and cause issues getting into the route and being able to consistently get into space. Sarratt doesn’t have the long speed to take most plays to the house but does an ok job after the catch though his drops often come when looking to run before having the ball. Despite being 6’2 he doesn’t have the largest catch radius and likely will be limited at times with out of frame catches. Sarratt is an adequate blocker, showcasing an effort and drive to do so but the technique, strength at POA, and overall effectiveness can be limited. The senior receiver is limited in being a truly conventional outside X receiver and doesn’t have much ability to work into the slot or the Z. He can get caught up vs man coverage when his initial release and movement in space don’t work as effective.

2026 WR Class | Early Production Profiles

Makai Lemon and Elijah Sarratt check the boxes.

Haven’t heard TCU’s Eric McAlister come up in draft talks at all, but he deserves a real look. pic.twitter.com/zjJvW70gdM

— Gridiron Grading (@GridironGrading) October 15, 2025

Grade: 2.75 – Mid to Late 2nd Round

Pro-Comp: Michael Pittman Jr

Sarratt is going to make a few NFL teams very excited with the level of play he can provide. Elijah Sarratt showcases the ability to win at the point of attack consistently and he consistently gets open with his subtle movements, explosiveness after initial cut, and instincts at the position. Sarratt has done well in a variety of systems and his proven successful track record will translate to the NFL. He’s a big body traditional physical receiver that will be a quarterbacks friend downfield in contested situations while he’s also able to work over the middle and absorb contact through his playstyle. The Las Vegas Raiders require getting a physical receiver to pair with Fernando Mendoza who relies on the physical big play X receiver. The Raiders have Bowers, Bech, and Tucker at receiver and adding former teammate Elijah Sarratt could help the transition to the NFL.

Playoff lessons: Klint Kubiak next Las Vegas Raiders head coach? Broncos’ playoff run Nix-ed?

Kenneth Walker III (3) and the Seattle Seahawks ran all over the San Francisco 49ers.

One of the perks that Tom Brady enjoys as Las Vegas Raiders minority owner?

His gig with Fox Sports affords him the opportunity to broadcast and watch postseason games.

And, as the Silver & Black continues its hunt for a head coach, Brady got a bird’s eye view of one of the candidates the team has shown interest in: Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.

And hearing Brady’s impressed exclamation combined with a chuckle after running back Kenneth Walker III galloped in for a seven-yard touchdown just before halftime to boost the Seahawks commanding lead to 24-6 was likely the same reaction folk who like Kubiak as candidate to captain the Raiders.

Seattle’s 41-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers was an exhibition in ground & pound as Kubiak put the Seahawks’ offense on Walker’s capable shoulders and the tailback produced 145 total yards and three touchdowns.

145 total yards
3 Touchdowns

Kenneth Walker III got a hat trick and a trip to the NFC Championship 🎩 @seahawks pic.twitter.com/QOvRNaCZpl

— NFL (@NFL) January 18, 2026

One has to wonder if Kubiak — the architect of Seattle’s third-ranked scoring offense and eighth-ranked offense in yards gained — is indeed a prime candidate for Las Vegas’ opening or if he’s just merely a name on the Raiders’ list? And vice versa, is Kubiak seriously considering the Silver & Black’s head gig or just going through the process?

Kubiak wasn’t the lone member of his family tree to have an interview with Las Vegas, his brother Klay — the 49ers offensive coordinator — spoke with the team on Sunday. The Raiders also had an interview with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady on the same day.

Brady and general manager John Spytek are engaging in a deliberate process to land a new head coach but expect the Raiders’ list to whittle down this coming week as the playoffs moves into the AFC and NFC Championship tilts. And if Klint Kubiak is a serious contender, Las Vegas’ wait could be prolonged depending on how far the Seahawks advance.

Playoff Hopes Nix-ed?

The AFC West-champion Denver Broncos’ truly rode the highs and lows of a dramatic 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

The team’s exhilaration of advancing to the AFC title game received a sudden gut punch when head coach Sean Payton walked up to the postgame podium and announced quarterback Bo Nix suffered a season-ending ankle fracture.

I cannot lie: When the news hit social media, I thought it was accounts being hacked. But seeing Payton’s face and hearing his voice in the press conference after the game was a reminder of the sobering reality of the game of football at times.

Broncos coach Sean Payton details the circumstances of learning about Bo Nix's season-ending ankle fracture:

"As he comes over [to the sideline], I kind of chest bump him, jab him, like, 'Fricking A.' And he's like, 'Careful.' It was then I'm like, 'You all right?' And he said,… pic.twitter.com/9IoOcq9KHb

— Andrew Mason (@MaseDenver) January 18, 2026

Denver now turns to backup Jarrett Stidham as QB1 and the 29-year-old draws quite the matchup with the New England Patriots — the team that drafted him in the fourth round (133rd overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Payton’s play-call acumen is going to be thoroughly tested by Terrell Williams’ New England defense, a group that intercepted Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud four times on Saturday.

The Broncos need Nik Bonitto and the other pass rushers to get to Patriots quarterback Drake Maye — sacked five times and fumbling four times (losing two) — by the Texans stout defense.

Las Vegas is likely to use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft on a quarterback — presumably Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza if he declares. So that’s a potential answer for QB1. But what about QB2?

Let’s assume Mendoza is the pick, the Raiders do have Geno Smith and Aidan O’Connell under contract. It’s difficult to see Smith remaining now that Pete Carroll is no longer employed by the team. And with O’Connell likely to remain with his relatively cheap $3.73-plus million cap number, Las Vegas would have an experienced option who can either start or serve as the backup.

The Call

Was it a catch by Buffalo Bills wide receiver Brandin Cooks or an interception by Broncos safety Ja’Quan McMillian? The NFL ruled it was a takeaway and after watching it over and over, I can’t definitively say one way or another.

How about you?

— NFL (@NFL) January 18, 2026

Yet, that play — whether you deem it conventional or controversial — belabors the point that the Raiders rebuild not only requires a quarterback but also defense, and special teams.

Las Vegas needs an infusion of talent on the defensive side of the ball this offseason whether via free agency or the draft.

First comes head coach, then coaching staff decisions and pivotal roster moves, but whether the defensive coordinator is Patrick Graham again or someone else, Spytek will have heavy lifting to do this offseason to provide quality ingredients so the coaching staff can cook.

A disciplined defense that can take the ball away helps alleviate struggles at the quarterback position — as the Patriots-Texans game showed us. New England combined spending coin in free agency with the 2025 draft picks to strengthen the defense. With ample salary space and draft picks this coming April, Las Vegas is in a good position to do the same — if Spytek is on his game and bold enough to do so, instead of bargain bin shopping and penny pinching this past offseason.

Extra Points

—Brady was enamored by Ben Johnson as a coaching candidate for the Raiders. Instead, Johnson is became the Bears boss and led the team to the NFC divisional clash where his team fell to the Los Angeles Rams 20-17 in overtime. Can Brady deliver in this current Raiders search or once again be simply used as leverage?

—The divisional round was rough for some quarterbacks and the touchdown to interceptions thrown — 13 to 12 — was razor thin. In terms of pass protection, Maye getting dropped five times was the most followed by the Rams’ Matthew Stafford getting sacked four times. The two that didn’t get sacked? The Bears’ Caleb Williams and Nix.

Up Next

While the loss of Nix is both disheartening and has reverberating effects for the Broncos going forward, Payton and Co. have no choice but to move forward best they can. The Broncos getting the the conference title game showcases how far behind the Raiders are from the rest of the AFC West. The AFC Championship Game will be in Denver as the New England Patriots head to Mile High next Sunday with a Noon (Pacific Standard Time) kickoff.

Over in the NFC, the Rams punched their title game ticket with a thrilling overtime win over the Bears. This contest will be played in Settle next Sunday with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. (PST)

Is a Mike McDaniel decision coming?

Mike McDaniel

Something appears to be going on with the immediate coaching future of former Miami Dolphins Mike McDaniel.

And it may involve the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a curious move, NFL Media reported Tuesday afternoon that McDaniel has informed the Cleveland Browns that he is withdrawing from their head-coaching search, a day before he was scheduled to have an in-person interview.

Former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel informed the Browns he’s withdrawing from their head coaching search ahead of a scheduled in-person interview Wednesday, per sources.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 20, 2026

McDaniel interviewed in-person with the Raiders’ brass in Miami on Monday before they went to see expected No.1 overall draft pick Fernando Mendoza and Indiana win the national championship. There is a chance the Raiders could soon hire the offensive-minded McDaniel to coach Mendoza.

McDaniel is also a candidate to be the Baltimore Ravens’ head coach and NFL Media reported he is meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday about their open offensive coordinator job and he reportedly also has offers for other offensive coordinator jobs. There has been rumors he could reunite with fellow former San Francisco 49ers assistant Robert Saleh on his staff with the Tennessee Titans.

Wherever it may be, it seems like McDaniel is about to land somewhere. Perhaps it will be Las Vegas.

Rob Leonard has potential to be Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator

Las Vegas Raiders defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach Rob Leonard gathers his defenders.

Despite regime changes, Rob Leonard remained a constant.

He even got an additional title — run game coordinator — to go along with defensive line coach for the Las Vegas Raiders when the team went from Antonio Pierce to Pete Carroll as head coach. Originally brought in as the defensive line coach under then-head coach Josh McDaniels in 2023, Leonard’s tenure with the Silver & Black is again, up in the air.

The Raiders sacked Carroll shortly after a 3-14 2025 campaign and are engaged in a wide-net search to land another head coach. The list is long, the candidates varied, and Las Vegas is set to have a pair of in-person interviews next week in Miami with former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and current Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

When minority owner Tom Brady and general manager John Spytek make the pivotal decision on who the leading man will be for Las Vegas, expect turnover in the remaining coaching staff. Leonard is one of the incumbents that could stick despite yet another swap at the top spot on the coaching staff.

#Raiders TE coach Luke Steckel and DL coach Rob Leonard make Pelissero’s list. If Pete Carroll is gone in 2026, new coaching staff has to do everything possible to keep those two https://t.co/S3612lzg4q

— Tristen Kuhn (@KuhnTristen) November 19, 2025

All Gas, No Ego

A high-energy coach that brings enthusiasm to the table, Leonard’s optimism, energy, and dedication to football are traits that make him a player’s coach. Despite entering the NFL coaching game in 2013 with the New York Giants, Leonard has no ego during his 13-year stint.

Combine the energy and positivity with the lack of arrogance and it’s easy to see why players under Leonard’s charge flock to him. From defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and other coaches, to Raiders like Maxx Crosby, all speak highly of Leonard’s ability and command in the defensive room, highlighting his ability to build and maintain a culture.

While positivity is his calling card, Leonard doesn’t hold any of his defenders above reproach. By using game film to showcase both highlights and lowlights as teach tape, that style of teaching aligned with Graham. In his initial season as the defensive run game coordinator along with his defensive line boss duties Leonard helped the Raiders earn the distinction of the 17th-ranked unit in terms of rushing yards allowed (1,986). That’s one less yard than the team allowed in 2024 where the group was ranked 13th in ground yards yielded.

As mentioned earlier, Leonard entered the NFL ranks as a defensive assistant for Tom Coughlin’s Giants in 2013. He elevated to assistant defensive line and linebackers coach his final two seasons of his six-year stay in New York then moved on to the Miami Dolphins for three seasons where he served as linebackers coach, assistant defensive line coach, then outside linebackers coach. That’s a position he held with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 before joining the Raiders the following season as defensive line boss.

Development & Production

Crosby remains a consistent havoc creator on the defensive line with a team-leading 10 sacks to go along with 28 tackles for loss and 20 quarterback hits in 15 games (all starts) this past season. Fellow defensive end Malcolm Koonce finished second with 4.5 sacks while defensive tackles Jonah Laulu and rookie Tonka Hemingway each had four. As did defensive end Tyree Wilson with fellow edge adding three.

The production from a rookie defensive tackle is a highlight, but overall, Las Vegas finished 18th in sacks with 37. The year before, the Raiders finished 21st in the league with 38 sacks and the high mark for Leonard’s tenure was a 15th ranking in 2023 with the Raiders collecting 46 total sacks. And that year was the breakout season for Koonce who notched a career-high eight sacks in 17 games (11 starts). He did suffer a torn ACL in preseason in 2024 and began showcase the burst he had in the second half of the 2025 campaign.

Then there’s Wilson, the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, who hasn’t quite found any solid footing in his three seasons so far. Finishing with four sacks and 35 tackles, including a career-high eight tackles for loss, the Texas Tech product has 12 sacks, 91 total tackles, 16 stops for loss, and four forced fumbles in 50 career games (seven starts).

#Raiders DE Tyree Wilson said he feels the game has slowed down for him. Rob Leonard on what he's seen from Wilson:

"Trust in his technique…him becoming a pro… When this kid gets two steps in the ground, it's going to be a problem"#RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/PuL4Ir2wsG

— Dominic Lavoie (@dominicjlavoie) August 21, 2025

It’s that inconsistent statical production along with what appears to be a plateaued career trajectory for Wilson that are knocks on Leonard. The 121 sacks over the three seasons as defensive line boss looks solid, however, there are stretches where his group struggled getting to the quarterback consistently. There’s mitigating factors to that, of course. Roster and depth — namely availability — hinders any coach and Leonard isn’t the defensive play caller, Graham is.

But Leonard has a hand in the performance. And the stagnation of Wilson is a sore point for both Leonard and Graham.

The Outlook

Las Vegas’ excursion to hire yet another head coach has the look of deliberate. Two of the first reported in-person talks are on tap as the quest continues and that’s a solid step in the process.

But as Spytek noted, the coaches who remain with the Raiders are still under contract and it’ll be up to the next head honcho to decide the makeup of their staff.

With extensive experience — in his 13 seasons, Leonard has worked with eight different head coaches and has a diverse knowledge base because of it — alongside having player-favor, the run game coordinator and defensive line boss merits a long look by the new leader.

There’s a high likelihood Leonard won’t be out of work for long if he finds himself not in the Raiders’ plans.

Las Vegas Raiders Reserve/Futures Signings

usa_today_26424822.jpg

Earlier this month, the Raiders signed 12 players to reserve/futures contracts, these contracts are essentially any current free agent that did not end the year on an active roster in 2026 and/or are practice squad players. Typically, these players are those that ended the season with a teams practice squad but in recent years we’ve seen teams sign other players in other aspects including the Raiders signing Adam Butler in 2023. A brief breakdown to some Las Vegas Raiders reserve contracts from recent:

RB Chris Collier

Collier signed with the Raiders in 2024 after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens and since then Collier has seen his time go up and down spending the off-seasons on the active roster and the season mainly on the Raiders practice squad. Collier has notable speed with a 4.43 40 and in preseason so far has rushed for 154 yards on 43 attempts with another 22 receiving yards on 2 receptions. The Raiders RB room is light for next season with just Ashton Jeanty and Dylan Laube projected to return.

WR Brendan Rice

The son of legend Jerry Rice, Brenden who stands 6’3, 215 pounds and also posted a 4.50 40 in his predraft process will look to add depth to the Raiders receiver room in 2026. He’s hauled in 4 receptions for 43 yards in preseason on 21 targets with just the one drop. Rice is a solid route runner, has a good frame, but struggles at times staying strong in his route which can cause him to get thrown off. The Raiders have a notable lack of depth in their receiver room and Rice could push to add depth.

WR Phillip Dorsett II

The 33 year old Dorsett looks to push for another bottom of the roster spot after spending the 2025 season on the Raiders practice squad. The former first round pick by the Colts hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2023 and has a career 151 receptions, 2001 yards, and 12 touchdowns. It’s likely that Dorsett will have to battle for his spot on the roster the full off-season but the Raiders will have another option for depth in their room.

TE Albert Okwuegbunam Jr

The former 4th rounder from the Broncos in 2020 has a career 59 receptions, 582 yards, and four touchdowns including 5 receptions, 36 yards for the Raiders in their week five game vs the Colts. Okwuegbunam is a phenomenal athlete at 6’5, 260 with a 4.49 40, 1.56 10 split, and has hit 22 miles per hour as well. He does well as a blocker in fashion but is usually best utilized when he’s able to work in the slot or a traditional H-Back role. The Raiders have some depth in their tight end room behind Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer with Carter Runyon who played 46 snaps as a UDFA and stands 6’6, 235 with some strong blocking traits. Okwuegbunam has the traits to get back to his 2021 form where he hauled in 330 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 33 receptions and at just 27 years old is a name to watch.

T Joshua Miles

The 30 year old Miles, has appeared in 24 career snaps though his career and likely is brought in just as a veteran depth option for the off-season and going forward. Miles hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2021 but he’s played 703 snaps in his career during the preseason allowing 5 sacks and 27 pressures split evenly between left and right tackle. Miles doesn’t have the in game experience for a traditional swing tackle and with the Raiders having Kolton Miller, Charles Grant, DJ Glaze, and Dalton Wagner it’s hard to see Miles being more than an off-season depth option.

T Dalton Wagner

Wagner has been a name to watch since signing as a UDFA in 2023 largely due to his 6’8, 320 frame and in his 250 career preseason snaps through three seasons the 27 year old has allowed just one sack and 8 pressures with time mainly at right tackle. Wagner earned his first regular season snaps (be it just 2) in 2025 but the Raiders consistently have brought back Wagner time and time again and the former Arkansas Razorback may have a chance in 2026 to compete for a bottom of the roster depth OL position.

IOL Layden Robinson

The former Patriots 4th rounder in 2024 from Texas A&M, Robinson is just 6’4, 315 and has appeared in 602 career regular season snaps split between both guard spots. The issue is that Robinson was viewed as a highly raw prospect coming out of A&M and likely drafted almost 2-3 rounds too earlier. In 2024, Robinson allowed 4 sacks, 7 hits, and 33 pressures with 5 penalties on one of the league’s worst offensive lines with New England. Robinson is young, has size, and decent athletic traits. He’s a high upside depth piece that needs time to develop but the traits are present for him to become a solid backup option in the future.

IOL Laki Tasi

The former Australian rugby player is a Raiders fan favorite and at 6’6, 375 pounds it’s very easy to see why. The 22 year old is a phenomenal athlete, has incredible strength, and is viewed as an OL/DL/FB hybrid player. The Raiders 2025 international player pathway signing could find his way into a legit spot in 2026 with further development or he’s likely to stay on the practice squad for another season with an exempt status. Tasi played 30 preseason snaps allowing a sack and 2 pressures and while he’s raw in technique and pass protection, he’s a refined run blocker. Tasi is someone to watch in the off-season and pre-season as the Raiders try to develop an international prospect similar to Jordan Malaita.

IOL McClendon Curtis

The former Raiders UDFA signing in 2023, has since played with the Seahawks, Cardinals, and now lands back with the Raiders. The 6’6, 325 guard has not played in any career regular seasons games and in his 173 preseason snaps has allowed 1 sack and 8 pressures with time split between left and right tackle, and guard. Curtis was a potential top 100 pick in 2023 and since has fallen far off with his career, Curtis fits as a versatile lineman but does need a strong showing this off-season and pre-season to sneak into the roster.

DT Treven Ma’ae

The Raiders 2025 UDFA signing flashed in pre-season as a pass rusher though needs to improve with his run defense, pad level, and improve strength as well also. The 6’5, 290 pound defensive tackle from Baylor posted 5 pressures, a sack, 3 TFL, 2 hits, and 2 stops in 55 preseason snaps with the 2nd best pass rush win rate at 18.8% only behind fellow Raider Tonka Hemingway. Ma’ae has the ability to potentially earn a spot with the Raiders defense in 2026 with a strong off-season and camp and his versatility as a 2, 3, and 5 tech will go a long way in his favor.

LB Jamin Davis

The former 19th overall selection in 2021 by the Commanders has a career 2279 snaps with 37 starts in 56 games logging a career 290 tackles, 22 TFL, 11 QB hits, 8 sacks, 6 PBU, and 2 FF. The Raiders signed Davis who’s just 27 years old and 6’3, 235 this season to play in a role similar to his spot in Washington as a hybrid end and linebacker. The Raiders lack depth along their defensive line and linebacker room so Davis may have a shot to make himself a spot in 2026.

  • DL Boogie Basham

Evero sound but Las Vegas Raiders need strong offensive mind

Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, right, is a strong offensive mind that’d suit the Raiders.

With second interviews completed with a a trio of coaching candidates, the Las Vegas Raiders head coach search hit another gear this week.

The team officially confirmed a pair of defensive-minded candidates — Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who is slated to be the next Baltimore Ravens head coach — had second, in-person interviews while another — former Miami Dolphins head coach and potentially the next Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel — reportedly had a similar in-persons sit-down with Raiders brass this past Monday, but wasn’t confirmed by Las Vegas.

Compliance Met

  • The Raiders official list has 14 candidates who were interviewed and the in-person talks with Evero and McDaniel put the Silver & Black in compliance with the Rooney Rule (requires teams to have in-person interviews with two external minority candidates before making a hire).

While Evero is a sound defensive mind — we all know how much the Raiders defense needs some TLC — and would be solid choices to become the next head coach, Las Vegas would be wise to seek a strong offensive mind to captain the ship.

#Raiders announced the completion of their interview with Panthers DC Ejiro Evero. They have now satisfied the Rooney Rule. pic.twitter.com/QEimAIQtjy

— Ryan McFadden (@ryanmcfadden_) January 21, 2026

This isn’t to say that neither Minter nor Evero can’t land a quality offensive coordinator to be the architect and orchestrate the next rendition of the Raiders offense.

If either were hired, they’d be apt to ensure the offensive side of the ball gets as much attention as the defense considering the team owns the No. 1 overall selection in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. And the assumption is Las Vegas uses that pick to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza — once the signal caller declares his intent to enter the draft.

To maximize the return on a massive investment the Raiders may make at the all-important quarterback position, a quality offensive coordinator and quarterback coach is a must. Hence why an offensive-minded head coach is vital for the Silver & Black.

And that’s reportedly the way the team is leaning.

Here’s more on the #Raiders HC search and what the league-wide belief is on which direction they are leaning: pic.twitter.com/7dASvBCIc6

— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) January 21, 2026

The main reason why a candidate such as Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, and Denver Broncos offensive pass game coordinator/quarterback coach Davis Webb (to name a few) are ideal candidates for the Raiders gig is a practical one.

A head coach contract is typically a four- to five-year pact ensuring a long-haul approach. And hiring an offensive-minded coach like Kubiak, LaFleur, or Webb is a sound approach for the development of the presumed top pick Mendoza as the head man leading the Raiders coaching staff.

If that responsibility were tied to an offensive coordinator hire presuming Minter and Evero (or another defensive-minded coach) landing the gig, the timeframe is must more compact in comparison. And the reason is simple: An offensive coordinator being tethered to a defensive-minded coach can flourish, and get cherry picked by another team to become the head coach.

Stunting the continued growth of Mendoza and other key elements of the Raiders offense — like tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty at the top of the list — can be detrimental. And having a long-haul head coach versus an offensive coordinator/quarterback coach provides long-term stability.

Now I know what you’re thinking. Stability and Raiders are not synonymous. And you’re right based on historical data. But to change the narrative, Las Vegas must move forward.

The question was, if the #Broncos win, will Davis Webb's HC stock rise? Answer: It's already high. pic.twitter.com/NKsOieGVzv

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 21, 2026

The choice Las Vegas general manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady make at head coach will have a ripple effect on how the team shapes up this offseason.

Brady, who is the lead NFL analyst for Fox Sports, does have some solid silvering lining this weekend as he’s slated to call the NFC Championship game between the Rams and host Seahawks. He’ll get to see Kubiak, LaFleur, and even Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, from a bird’s eye view once more in the broadcast booth. That’ll give the minority owner even more insight to help him and Spytek make an informed decision.

Lastly, during all the news of coaching vacancies (such as the Buffalo Bills firing Sean McDermott) and hirings (Kevin Stefanski to the Atlanta Falcons and Jeff Hafley to the Miami Dolphins, and McDaniel to the Chargers), I got to contemplating: Has Kliff Kingsbury landed a job since the Washington Commanders decided to move on from their former offensive coordinator?

It’s been quiet on the Kingsbury front, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler brought up an interesting item: If Webb lands a head coach gig — he’s on the Raiders’, Ravens’, and potentially Bills’ radar — Kingsbury is being floated as Webb’s offensive coordinator. I mention this as Brady and Kingsbury have a decades-long friendship dating back to when both were quarterbacks for the New England Patriots in 2003.

That all said, Las Vegas’ next head coach hire likely won’t happen for a bit. As presumed prime candidates are in their respective conference title tilts this weekend.

But clarity will be upon us next week — hopefully.

Conference Championship free agents Las Vegas Raiders should keep tabs on

John Franklin-Myers

Previously, Silver and Black Pride explored one free agent from each Divisional Round team that the Las Vegas Raiders should keep tabs on. With the NFL Playoffs moving on to the Conference Championships this weekend, let’s continue this exercise and dive into one more impending free agent option from the league’s final four teams.

All stats referenced below are from the regular season unless otherwise specified.

Denver Broncos: DL John Franklin-Myers

2025 Stats: 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 6 TFLs

Age: 29 (turns 30 in September)

Franklin-Myers’ age could be an issue for the rebuilding Raiders, but if he’s willing to take a shorter-term deal, that would give Las Vegas’ pass-rush a big boost. The veteran defensive lineman notched 50 or more pressures in five consecutive seasons from 2020 to 2024, per Pro Football Focus. Granted, 2025 was a down year for him with just 39 pressures, but that was still good enough to crack the top-20 among interior pass-rushers. Additionally, JFM was used as a defensive tackle more frequently this season, tying a career high with 156 snaps (out of 516 total) when lined up in the B-gap, which helps explain the dip in production. He could bring inside-outside pass-rush versatility to the Raiders’ defense.

It’s been said a ton of times, but I’ll say it a hundred more. John Franklin-Myers is one of those perennially underrated players. Incredible motor. pic.twitter.com/P27IEyl06E

New England Patriots: Edge K’Lavon Chaisson

gettyimages-2191351098.jpg

2025 Stats: 31 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 10 TFLs

Age: 26 (turns 27 in July)

During his end-of-season press conference, general manager John Spytek suggested that he regrets letting a few in-house free agents walk last offseason. Chaisson is likely one of the players the general manager was referring to, as the former Raider outdid his career year in 2024 this season by posting new career highs in sacks and pressures (54, per PFF). The former Jacksonville Jaguars’ first-round pick is set to hit the open market again this spring, and Las Vegas is going to need pass-rush help regardless of Maxx Crosby’s status with the team moving forward. Maybe Spytek corrects a mistake and brings Chaisson back to Sin City.

Seattle Seahawks: WR Rashid Shaheed

2025 Stats: 59 catches, 687 yards, 2 TDs, 2 return TDs (1 kick, 1 punt)

Age: 27 (turns 28 in August)

If the Raiders hire Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as head coach, look for them to pursue Shaheed in free agency. It’s no secret that the Silver and Black’s wide receiver room could use a boost, and those two worked together briefly with the New Orleans Saints in 2024 before reuniting again in Seattle during this year’s trade deadline. Not only would the four-year pro bring speed to Vegas’ offense, but he’s also a two-time Pro Bowler and a 2023 first-team All-Pro as a returner.

Los Angeles Rams: S Kamren Curl

2025 Stats: 122 tackles, 2 INTs, 5 PDs, 2 sacks, 2 TFLs

Age: 26 (turns 27 in March)

For the first four years of his career with the Washington Commanders, Curl was primarily a box safety who could provide run support. However, he’s expanded his role in Los Angeles, logging a career-high 662 snaps (out of 1,112 total) at free safety, per PFF. Also, Curl made several plays in coverage this season, posting decent ball production and ranking tied for fourth among safeties with 19 coverage stops. And he was still a factor in the running game, finishing seventh at the position with a career-high 84.7 PFF run defense grade. That versatility and production would be a good addition to Las Vegas’ secondary.

NFL Conference Championship predictions

Jarrett Stidham

We’re almost done with the 2025-26 NFL season as they are just three more games remaining.

So, let’s continue our Saturday tradition of picking games.

Sunday, there will be the two conference championship games. Let’s get to the games:

New England Patriots at the Denver Broncos, Noon.

It’s such a bummer Bo Nix broke his ankle and we have to see a backup, Jarrett Stidham, play. No offense to Stidham, a former Raider, but it will be tough for him.

Prediction:

Patriots 24, Broncos 10.

Los Angeles Rams at the Seattle Seahawks, 3:30 p.m.:

While the AFC game may be a little dull, I’m fully expecting a humdinger in the NFC contest.

I think this will go to the final seconds and I see a real shootout between the two best teams remaining.

Prediction:

Rams 34, Seahawks 33.

Now, it’s your turn.

Las Vegas Raiders eyeing two offensive canididates for head coach

imagn-26928728.jpg

The Las Vegas Raiders are still on the search for a head coach. After an extensive interview process, it seems to be coming down to the wire and could be decided by next week. They interviewed Brian Daboll on Saturday and plan to conduct two more interviews next week.

The two coaches scheduled for second interviews are coaching this week. Davis Webb, who is a young quarterback coach for the Broncos, and Klint Kubiak, the OC for the Seattle Seahawks. Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that these two are the Raiders’ focus.

The Raiders have at least two, potentially three, candidates whose teams will play Sunday. Sources say they are looking into scheduling another interview with Broncos offensive passing game coordinator Davis Webb, who is considered a strong candidate. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph have interest, as well. Webb has not yet been a coordinator, but his experience as an NFL QB, along with his leadership abilities, make him an attractive candidate. The belief is Las Vegas is looking for a younger, offensive coach, and Kubiak — a top coordinator — and Webb fit that bill. Kubiak was also a strong candidate for the Falcons’ vacancy before they hired former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Kubiak, Joseph and Webb have completed virtual interviews with Las Vegas.

Webb will be a gamble, having called only one play in the preseason. His being a former quarterback with a quick rise in the league is a sell for the Raiders franchise. Kubiak is someone minority owner Tom Brady has watched a ton calling games for Fox. He will be in Seattle again this weekend when they face the Rams. Next week everything will start to pick up.

What head coach candidates can Las Vegas Raiders hire after NFL Conference Championships?

Davis Webb

With the New England Patriots beating the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks taking down the Los Angeles Rams during the NFL’s Conference Championships, the Super Bowl XL matchup between the Patriots and Seahawks is officially set. That impacts the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach search since the Raiders have been interviewing candidates from the Seahawks, Rams and Broncos.

Per the league’s rules, Las Vegas can meet with and hire any coach from Los Angeles or Denver, since those clubs have been eliminated from the playoffs. The team has interviewed Rams’ offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, defensive coordinator Chris Shula and passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, as well as Broncos’ quarterback coach/passing game coordinator Davis Webb. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Silver and Black are expected to meet with Webb for a second interview at some point this week.

Additionally, the Raiders can hold a second interview with Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak this week, since candidates who are playing in the Super Bowl can meet with other teams during the bye between Conference Championship weekend and the big game. The interview with Kubiak can be in-person, per the NFL’s rules, but the Raiders can’t officially hire him until after the championship.

Also, interviews this week can only be second interviews, which means Las Vegas has an advantage over the Buffalo Bills if the Bills are interested in Kubiak. Buffalo didn’t fire head coach Sean McDermott until after their Divisional Round playoff loss in Denver, and couldn’t interview candidates who had a game this past Sunday. So, the Bills would have to wait until after the Super Bowl to meet with any coach from the Seahawks’ or Patriots’ staffs.

Speaking of Buffalo, Joe Brady, the team’s offensive coordinator, was in Las Vegas for a second head coach interview, according to Schefter.

Former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is also reportedly still in the running for the Raiders’ opening despite agreeing to be the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator this week. McDaniel is still seeing if he can land a head coach job, and if not, he’ll be the Chargers’ OC next season. He, Kubiak and Webb seem to be the Raiders’ top three options based on the video below from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Alec Pierce ‘no-brainer’ signing for Las Vegas Raiders

imagn-27931832.jpg

The Las Vegas Raiders will head into the off-season with likely the 2nd or third most cap space in the NFL and a ton of glaring needs around the roster. Holding the first overall selection, the Raiders will need to address their roster in a plethora of ways, including at wide receiver.

The Raiders will return Tre Tucker, Jack Bech, and Dont’e Thornton to their room in 2026. Tucker started all 17 games and was targeted 92 times for 57 receptions, 696 yards, and five touchdowns while adding 51 rushing yards. Tucker was often used on the boundary despite his 5’9, 185 frame and the soon to be 25 year old will be looking for a big season in 2026 on his contract season. The former third round selection from Cincinnati is an electric receiver and should earn a strong contract this off-season or next off-season as he builds on his 1566 career yards, 10 touchdowns, and 123 receptions. 2025 also saw Tucker rank 14th in separation, haul in 5 of his 11 contested catch targets, and also see him log 292 yards after the catch. Tucker has developed into a strong third or second receiver for the Raiders and should be his role going forward as teams start to respect his route running and speed more as he develops.

Career highs across the board for Tre Tucker in Week 3:

8 catches
145 yards
3 TDs@1SilkySmooth | @Raiders pic.twitter.com/Ux87bdQJtB

— NFL (@NFL) September 23, 2025

Jack Bech had some notable moments posting 20 receptions, 224 yards, and 0 touchdowns in his rookie season but the 23 year old, 6-foot-2, 215 pound receiver from TCU was 5 of 8 on contested catch opportunities (3rd highest of all rookie WR’s) and he posted 132 yards on 12 receptions in weeks 13-16. Bech is developing into his role in the NFL and the 2025 second rounder does project to have a strong role in the Raiders system in 2026 especially with his knack of getting open (4th best separation rate among rookie WRs), contested catch ability, and versatility to work as a big slot or boundary receiver. Bech is a similar mold, technique, and skillset to now Jaguars receiver Jakobi Meyers and should develop into a similar role with time. Fellow rookie Dont’e Thornton has all the physical traits at 6-foot-5 and posting a sub 4.4 40 but the fourth rounder struggled to get open (98th in the NFL), had 2 drops (17% rate), and logged just 3 contested catches on his 15 attempts the lowest conversion rate in the NFL among receivers with 8+ contested catch opportunities. When targeted, Thornton had an average of -0.58 EPA per target this season the third lowest of all NFL receivers, tight ends, or running backs with 25+ targets. The 23 year old has the physical traits but can’t be relied upon in any fashion going into 2026 as he needs to refine his route running, physical profile through the route, route tree, work off the LOS, release package, hands, and ability to maintain concentration at the catch point.

Alec Pierce broke DBs this season (and my graph) pic.twitter.com/g3TyvFApSI

— frank (@realfrankbrank) January 6, 2026

The Raiders need to drastically add talent to the room in 2026 for rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, and while Brock Bowers will be the primary target they’ll need to add a solidified “x” receiver that can win on the outside, work after the catch, and be a reliable target for Mendoza early on in his career. Enter, Colts receiver Alec Pierce. Pierce will turn 26 in May and is projected to receive a 3 year, 63 million contract (21M AAV) with 48 million guaranteed. As the likely top receiver target on the free agent market this off-season, Pierce will be a hot commodity. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound former Cincinnati Bearcat was a 2nd round selection in 2022, and has posted a career 157 receptions, 2934 yards, and 17 touchdowns including 47 receptions, 1003 yards, and 6 touchdowns in 2026. Pierce has an electric size and speed combination with his 6’3 frame but a 4.38 – 4.41 40 as well. Pierce ranked 8th in the NFL in separation this season and has only ranked outside the top 30 once in his career, his rookie season. He’s a career 45 of 100 on contested catches. A flaw for Pierce has been his consistent usage as a vertical threat and he does have a rather limited route tree all considered, and Pierce hasn’t be utilized as a true YAC threat in his time in the NFL either with just 511 yards after the catch in four seasons a flaw that has came with him from his time at Cincinnati where he had just 409 yards after the catch on 106 receptions. Pierce is an effective receiver, is well respected by defenses, and has been among the most valuable receivers in the last three seasons ranking an average of 19th in EPA/target over that span as well. Pierce has had moments as the primary look over Michael Pittman in Indianapolis and pending on the Raiders head coach decision is a no brainer regardless. A key factor in the movement to Las Vegas will be Pierce’s immediate impact as the top receiver option and his ability to work alongside Brock Bowers along with his former roommate, Tre Tucker.
