News Raiders Team Notes

Brock Bowers has lowest yardage production of season, not his fault

Brock Bowers

Here is a look at how the Las Vegas Raiders’ 2024 draft class fared in a 31-0 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and ahead to Week 16’s road game at the Houston Texans.

Brock Bowers:

Sunday was an example of how the Raiders are not taking advantage of having a sublime talent like Brock Bowers on their offense. He had a season-low 28 yards receiving on six catches. It was his second lowest yardage output of his career. What do you expect? The team had just 75 yards of offense their lowest in a game since 1961. What a waste of a superstar.

Jackson Powers-Johnson:

The second-round pick suffered an ankle injury in Week 10 and he is on the injured reserve. He reportedly might miss the rest of the season.

D.J. Glaze:

The third-round pick continued to struggle. he has allowed 10 sacks, tied for the second most among tackles (Raiders’ left tackle Stone Forsythe has allowed the most at 11). The team will likely look to upgrade from Glaze in the offseason.

Decamarion Richardson:

The fourth-round pick hasn’t played on defense yet this season. He played 14 plays on special teams.

Tommy Eichenberg:

The fifth-round pick from Ohio State played played 12 snaps on defense and was very active. He had five tackles, one for loss. He has only played 47 defensive snaps this season. Maybe he deserves more playing time down the stretch.

Dylan Laube:

The sixth-round pick played two snaps late in the blowout and had four yards on two carries. He has played 27 offensive snaps this season. He did return four kicks for 99 yards.

Jonah Laulu:

Laulu, claimed last year off waivers from Indianapolis, played 74 percent of the snaps and tied his season high with five tackles for the second straight game. He started the season hot and then cooled for several weeks. Maybe he is going to finish the season strong.

Previewing 2026 Free Agent Offensive Lineman

Wyatt Teller

The Las Vegas Raiders offensive line is simply not good, and that’s likely underselling it as they rank near the bottom of the NFL in pass block win rate, last in run block win rate, 30th in pressure rate, 29th in clean pocket rate, and last in avg. yards before contact.

The Raiders will have an interesting dilemma this off-season after having spent a 2024 2nd and 3rd rounder on Jackson Powers-Johnson and DJ Glaze and then two third rounders in 2025 on Charles Grant and Caleb Rogers. Powers-Johnson played well as a rookie before moving to guard this season and then suffering a season ending injury. Glaze has struggled with his transition to the NFL largely in part to speed rushers that have the twitch and bend to exploit his weakness in foot speed, hip flexibility, and weight balance. The Raiders haven’t played Charles Grant this season as he’s taking essentially a redshirt season though is rookie year preseason wasn’t terrible and Grant contains all the athletic traits necessary to succeed in the NFL though coaching will be a massive step forward for his development. Rogers played well his first two games and vs the Eagles did struggle, though facing the Eagles is likely to do that to rookie offensive lineman.

Outside of the younger player, the Raiders will likely move on from Dylan Parham this season and Parham does deserve an opportunity elsewhere to shift back to right guard or center. Jordan Meredith finished 2024 strong before really struggling out of the gate in 2025 largely in part to a new offensive system, and the transition to center. Going forward, Meredith who’s an RFA will return more than likely in 2026 but likely into a role as a 4th IOL who can shift between C, LG, and RG. Kolton Miller is Kolton Miller and will anchor left tackle even despite his injuries the last two seasons he remains an impact tackle and an unlucky ankle sprain reduced his 2025 season where prior to injury Miller allowed just 5 pressures in 4 games. Stone Forsythe, Will Putnam, and Alex Cappa are replacement level players or backups and can’t be considered in the cards going forward.

The Raiders have two starters locked in next season with Kolton Miller and Jackson Powers-Johnson, outside of them there’s 3 possible starter spots up for grabs in 2026. Caleb Rogers is playing well enough to at least compete and earn an opportunity to start in 2026, which he likely will be competing for with a new addition and/or DJ Glaze which leaves two spots at left guard and right tackle. The Raiders have over 100 million in cap space and should spend heavily on adding multiple offensive lineman to anchor the unit and let their be competition for the final 1-2 spots.

Tackle:

The Raiders won’t likely overspend on a tackle especially after drafting Charles Grant and he will likely have the chance to compete for that position along with DJ Glaze. Despite that, drafting a rookie is also realistic if the Raiders want to add a younger, cheaper player to the offensive line. Braden Smith headlines the tackle market this season and likely will earn north of 15 million a season at 30 years old. Smith has seen massive success in his career all at right tackle and all in Indianapolis which makes his departure highly unlikely if Indianapolis chooses to pay him. In the last three seasons, Smith has allowed just 5 sacks and 64 pressures though he’s missed time with injuries and been flagged 25 times as well. Jonah Williams has bounced back in Arizona as a serviceable right tackle but likely won’t increase the floor for the Raiders or the ceiling. Former Raiders T Jermaine Eluemunor is going to earn north of 9 million and anchor a teams right tackle position for likely another 3-4 seasons. Eluemunor has logged nearly 2000 snaps over the last two seasons where he’s allowed just 8 sacks and 47 pressures with 20 penalties. Eluemunor has been a starting RT for 4 straight seasons and consistently been among the better at the position, consistently providing good pass protection and run blocking though the penalty issues have risen. Eluemunor would enjoy coming back to Las Vegas, but the fit would have to be right. The tackle market is heavy at left tackle this off-season with a lack of RT, and the Raiders likely will need to bank on Grant or development. Other names to watch with most being depth or low ceiling, high floor options include Larry Borom (MIA), Rob Havenstein (LAR), Elijah Wilkinson (ATL), and Charlie Heck (TB)

#Raiders rookie OL Caleb Rogers asked about his PFF Grade from his 1st full game as a pro (74.7 overall)

“PFF is not my standard for my success and they’re lying, go watch the game. 0 sacks, 0 pressures, that’s not true…”

And proceeded to take ownership for two of his… pic.twitter.com/zppSDamghh

— Jesse Merrick – Silver & Black Sports Network (@JesseSBSN) December 10, 2025

Guard:

The guard market is the headline this off-season, mainly with Bills guard David Edwards being the staple. Edwards missed time from 2022-2023 with injuries and since 2024 he’s logged 2000 snaps allowing just 3 sacks and 54 pressures with 5.4 ypc as a lead blocker mainly at left guard where the Raiders have a good fit to come. Joel Bitonio and/or Wyatt Teller will likely be leaving the Browns this off-season and the veterans would be good stop gap fillers if the Raiders don’t view their younger talent as ready this season, though both could also be looking to win which wouldn’t fit Vegas. Titan’s Kevin Zeitler has a similar veteran stopgap filler role though at 36 coming away from the Titans, winning is likely in his priority to end his NFL career. Texans G Ed Ingram has seen a career revival in Houston after spending three seasons in Minnesota with the Vikings, Ingram has struggled at times in pass protection allowing 3 sacks and 23 pressures but his 5.2 ypc lead blocking has been monumental for the Texans offense. Paying a one year standout at OL is risky, but Ingram could be someone to bank on for the right price. Notable names Daniel Faalele (BAL) and Zion Johnson (LAC) will be popular but both have had extreme struggles this season and wouldn’t benefit the Raiders going forward other than as depth options. Names to watch that could be high floor names or players to bank on development include Cole Strange (MIA), Dalton Risner (CIN), Will Hernandez (ARZ), Jamaree Salyer (LAC), and Brady Christensen (CAR).

Tyler Linderbaum is an elite football player. pic.twitter.com/Ms68CDtpJM

— Coach Dan Casey (@CoachDanCasey) September 8, 2025

Center:

The clear cut top option, and maybe the best player to hit the market this off-season, is Ravens C Tyler Linderbaum. The multi time Pro Bowler likely won’t hit the open market strictly off the franchise tag but in the world he does, should be someone LV throws a blank check at. At just 26 years old, Linderbaum has allowed 5 sacks and 87 pressures in his career including just 2 sacks & 57 pressures since his rookie season in 2022. The center market in free agency is fairly competitive and deep with Jets C Josh Myers having a decent season and will likely receive a multi year deal after allowing just 1 sack and 25 pressures through 515 pass blocking snaps. Additionally, Browns C Ethan Pocic has continued to be a top 10 center and has allowed just 6 sacks and 62 pressures since 2023 in over 2800 snaps. Other names to watch include Panthers C Cade Mays who has earned his chance to start due to injury this season and been impressive.

Rico Dowdle deserves all the love he's getting, but I want to sing the praises of the #Panthers new franchise center, IMO, Cade Mays.

2nd time he's stepped in as the backup and the team hasn't missed a beat. Former top, SEC recruit has had a process changing schools, going in… pic.twitter.com/KPDlhrWNgt

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Draft Scouting: Peter Woods

imagn-27021222.jpg

Position: DT

Height: 6’3

Weight: 310

Stats: 2025 (12 games) – 30 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2 sacks, PBU | 15 pressures, 21 stops, 14.6% win rate

Class/Age: Junior, 20 (turns 21 in March)

Team: Clemson

Peter Woods is still a gamewrecking monster, don’t let the taper in production fool you pic.twitter.com/HPcdhMscvE

— NFL Draft Files (@NFL_DF) December 12, 2025

Positives:

Despite a down year in 2025 largely due to defensive scheming and other issues along the Clemson roster, Woods still remains a massive playmaker at defensive tackle. Woods has a lethal first step for his size quickly getting into his rep in elite fashion allowing him to be a wrecker with size, speed, and initial quickness. Woods has elite movement skills beyond his first step showcasing exceptional lateral quickness to pair with his ankle/knee flexibility and fluid hips allowing him to turn and bend with good twitch as well. Woods pairs this with elite strength in his upper and lower body, he has a special ability to drive his legs through the rep and pair with upper body power to move lineman off their feet and positioning. Woods pairs this with his strong natural hand strength that allows him to grab on and jam his arms into lineman’s chest consistently winning with his power and speed to power traits. Woods consistently is able to out power offensive lineman, anchor in the run game, and utilize his lower body power in pass rush with an extremely effective bull rush. He uses his hands well in strength to win in hand combat but also shows a variety of pass rush moves including a rip, chop, and club along with an unrefined spin that he will translate with due to his athletic nature. He’s a highly effective and efficient pass rusher, consistently winning over 14% of his attempts in college while also being a high impact run defender with a career 53% run stop win rate. Woods understands rushing concepts, he consistently anchors well and is able to play one or two gap assignments due to his frame and strength. He works well as a looper and against double teams consistently combating them in the correct order and having the athletic traits to overpower or out maneuver lineman. Woods has an ability to collapse rushing lanes from the interior, work backside against the run, and utilize his athletic traits laterally to impact the play where he’s consistently pushing lineman back into the rushing lane, stacking, peeking, and shedding blocks to clear lanes. Woods utilizes his first step well to convert speed to power and does so through the rep also. He also displays an exceptional motor with sideline to sideline effort and high end conditioning. Woods has a good traditional frame with exceptional arm length that he pairs with natural leverage.

2026 iDL Class | Career Production (First Look)

College production matters at iDL more than any other position.

Peter Woods is a blue-chip prospect.

Under the radar names to watch: Santana Hopper, Lee Hunter, Mateen Ibirogba pic.twitter.com/n4SOcYAHsJ

— Gridiron Grading (@GridironGrading) October 2, 2025

Weakness:

Woods will need to rely less on his strength which he does at times, solely trying to win with strength or bull rush attempts. He will need to refine his consistently approach to winning by overpowering lineman, though while effective and it should translate could lead to issues later on. Additionally, Woods is playing a little off and he will need to learn an effective pass rush strategy and plan that is versatile instead of solely using the power to speed he does. Woods will need to refine his pass rush traits as well not having a ton of high depth, highly effective moves but they’re refined enough to succeed in college and be building blocks in the NFL. Woods doesn’t maintain his balance the best, he’ll need to do better keeping his weight aligned instead of over reaching and extending outside his frame, additionally this can show with his pad level where he’ll get too tall and allow defenders into his chest where he’s able to adjust but not as effectively. Woods struggles with consistency, at times being out of position or leading with the wrong hand on a punch and opening up his inside chest, which will be taken advantage of in the NFL. Woods has rotated between different techniques and schemes, and in 2025 saw his first time working more as a traditional 2/3 tech causing a down year and his production to dip despite versatility being a key trait of his. Woods will also have to do better at putting his hands inside the tackles shoulders and preventing them from getting north into the facemask which has led to issues. The junior is young, will continue to grow but right now his production is a slight concern as well meeting below average thresholds and not seeing a ton of development year to year.

Currently on my final evaluation for #Clemson iDL Peter Woods. He's a cut-up from his game against Boston College. Overall: terrific size paired with exceptional power, explosive capacity, flexibility, DL versatility, disruption, and football intelligence. #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/Y2XIGQ7gjB

— Jared Feinberg (new account :)) (@Jared_NFLDraft) December 10, 2025

Grade: 1.21- Early Round 1

Pro-Comp: Jeffery Simmons (TEN)

Peter Woods is a freak human being, his raw strength isn’t natural having a 240/310 pound split of lean muscle mass while benching 505 pounds (37 reps of 225), squatting 700, deadlifting 855, and a 385 power clean. Additionally, Woods has been clocked with a 33 vertical and 4.84 40 which would all combine to give him near a 10 RAS. Athletic ability and strength is not a question for Woods, he’s going to need to get better with his consistency and refined technique but at just 21 years old that likely won’t be a too big knock to turn teams away from him in round 1. Woods has exceptional quickness and speed to power where he’s able to combine the two and consistently beat lineman to spots they’re not able to readjust at. There’s a real world where Woods will not have a massive impact in year one but with consistency and good coaching he’s going to develop into a gamewrecking, multi time All-Pro. The floor is high for Woods as well with the base being a high end run defender who can provide 2-5 sacks a season. The Raiders lack any interior pass rush consistency, and Woods would provide a key boost for them. It’s likely that Maxx Crosby returns but Las Vegas needs a true interior threat they have lacked for years. Woods likely is gone by the end of round 1 but if he remains, a trade up should be considered after taking QB early.

How have C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans turned around 2025 season after slow start?

C.J. Stroud

With their two final opponents already eliminated from the playoffs, Week 16 will be the Las Vegas Raiders’ final opportunity to play spoiler this season. The Houston Texans are locked into tight battles for the AFC South title and the conference’s final wild card spot, trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars by one game and holding a one-game advantage over the Indianapolis Colts.

To preview the contest for Raider Nation, Silver and Black Pride reached out to our friends at Battle Red Blog, and Scott Barzilla was kind enough to answer a few questions about the Texans.

Q: The Texans started the season slowly, losing the first three games of the year. However, they enter the weekend on a six-game winning streak. What’s been the difference between the first half of the season and the second half?

A: The biggest difference has been on the offensive end. Even in the first three games, the defense held their opponent to under 20 points in all three games. That streak has obviously continued throughout the season. So, the key to winning is for the offense to find a way to 20 points, and they have done that throughout the streak. The 20 points given up to the Cardinals were the second-most points given up during the streak. Don’t let the 40 points from last week fool you. This is still a defense-first team, and that will be the key again on Sunday.

Q: On a similar note, it feels like CJ Stroud has been up and down since his rookie season, from an outside perspective. What’s been the difference between Stroud’s strong performances and when he struggles?

A: I think the easy answer is the offensive line, but I think it runs a lot deeper than that. The bigger key is that the kind of offense they want to run is not the kind of offense they ran in year one or that he ran in college. He is growing within the new offense, and you can see individual games where it looks better than it did before.

When you look at their schedule this year, you can see how the level of defense they played dictates how well they perform. When they have played top ten defenses, they usually end up struggling, and that is particularly true when those defenses have strong pass rushes. They succeed against weaker defenses. That seems overly simplistic, but for those on the outside looking in, it can look like he is wildly inconsistent.

Q: Houston’s defense has arguably the best edge-rush duo in the NFL with Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. How do those two complement each other? Do you have any suggestions for slowing them down?

Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter

A: They are very similar in that they have relentless motors, so they are never out of a play. Anderson in particular, has grown a lot in his third year, so he is able to win at the line of scrimmage in a variety of ways. I think Hunter has been good for him the last two years because they are very similar in how they play.

In terms of how to beat them, I would try prayer. Seriously, you cannot afford to get caught in a bunch of third-and-longs. That is a recipe for disaster. So, if you can run the ball and stay ahead of the chains, then you can utilize a quicker passing game. If you can get the ball out quickly, you can neutralize that pass rush.

Q: In the secondary, I think most people know about Derek Stingley Jr., but the Texans’ defense has talent on the backend beyond the 2024 First-Team All-Pro. Who would you say is the team’s second-most important defensive back?

A: The Texans have four defenders with multiple interceptions. Jalen Pitre is top top-rated safety in the NFL according to PFF and should be a lock for the Pro Bowl. Kamari Lassiter may not be a lock, but he has four interceptions on the season and has been playing better than Stingley so far on the season. Calen Bullock is not quite as strong as the other three defenders, but he has been opportunistic on the back end.

If I had to pick one to brag on out of those three, it would be Lassiter. Having Lassiter and Stingley on the outside allows the Texans to play man or zone with equal effectiveness. That obviously opens up the pass rush, which you have already mentioned.

Q: I know the Texans are gearing up for a playoff run, but Raider Nation is already looking at the future. So, can you give us a few key impending free agents that the organization will have to make hard decisions on this offseason? What needs do you anticipate the team having?

A: I don’t think the Texans will be losing any important players that are currently a part of the core, but they likely will be saying goodbye to Joe Mixon, and Nick Chubb is here on a one-year contract. So, the running back room will be a position of note in the draft and free agency. Woody Marks has been good, but he needs a running mate to complement him. Jawhar Jordan had over 100 yards last week, so it will be interesting to see if he can be a secondary threat in the backfield.

The majority of the attention will be on the offensive line. They need to figure out whether they have any long-term pieces on the line outside of Tytus Howard. Aireontae Ersery has played all season at left tackle, but the reviews have been mixed. Ed Ingram might be a long-term fixture at right guard. Outside of those three, they will likely be looking to upgrade.

On defense, they are pretty well set, but I imagine DeMeco Ryans would love reinforcements anyway.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Draft Scouting: Rueben Bain

Rueben Bain

Position: EDGE Rusher

Height: 6’3

Weight: 275

Stats: 2025 (12 games) – 37 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks, INT, PBU, 2 FF | 58 pressures, 11 QB Hits, 27 stops, 19.8% win rate

Class/Age: Junior, 20

Team: Miami (FL)

Starting today, I’m tweeting about one prospect every day before the 2026 NFL Draft. If I miss a day, I shake ass for the TL

Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr.

+ Violent motor
+ Lands strikes accurately
+ Very fast for 275
+ Speed to power
– Agility in space pic.twitter.com/6CLBgoiMvd

— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) November 27, 2025

Positives:

Bain has an exceptional first step where he consistently explodes into the rep and engages with the tackle immediately creating pass rush nightmare matchups for offensive coordinators. Bain’s movement skills continue to show within the rep where he has exceptional ankle flexibility and hip movement that allows him to bend the edge and explode laterally or horizontally to pressure the pocket. Bain moves well in space as well showing the ability to get through a block and chase down backside runners or a scrambling QB. Bain pairs his athleticism and explosive playstyle with good natural raw strength allowing him to convert speed to power while also winning with a variety of moves. Bain has heavy strong hands at the POA which allow him to make lethal contact quickly and violently. As a smaller framed pass rusher, Bain does understand leverage and utilizes it well while also having an ability to stay low and play outside of his frame at the same time. He’s demonstrated a variety of pass rush moves which include a swim, club, chop swipe, and some bull rush technique. Bain isn’t going to be overmatched athletically or physically in the NFL with elite anchor ability and a strong thick lower half that allows him to anchor back and drive through the rep or contain the edge in run support as well. His handwork is active and quick with strength as well and he dices the run game just as well as he does the pass game showing consistent stack, shed, and readjustment techniques. Bain worked well when lined up at 7/9 tech but also showed the ability to work at a 4/5 tech and be an effective stunt loop player in the NFL with above average lateral movement. Bain has shown consistent progression with his technique and football IQ through three years instead of relying solely on his natural athleticism and power. Bain is a high IQ run defender, knowing opposing rushing plays well with good discipline and strength to set and hold an EDGE. He’s able to defeat blocks in space and has true sideline to sideline motor consistently breaking down plays backside or chasing defenders far downfield.

Rueben Bain Jr.

An Edge setter who's as surprising in his pass rush abilities as he's excellent in run.
However, his tweener status will be something to watch, and the team where he ends up will be decisive for the rest of his career.

2nd Round talent with 1st Round Potential🔍 pic.twitter.com/wW7LBczL4c

— Rayane M (@RayaneScout) December 3, 2025

Weakness:

Bain isn’t lack weight/muscle wise but height wise he does fall below NFL averages and his arm length is also just about average which could limit his ability to plant his arm into a tackles chest and turn the corner while also being outmatched by similar height athletic tackles. Additionally, he suffered an elbow and calf injury that caused his 2024 season to essentially be over before it could start due to lingering issues. Bain does get washed out in the run game at times due to his lack of length and over aggression where he constantly attempts to make up for his physical profile by extending himself too far and having clips of over pursuit in OZ run or true IZ situations. Bain also struggles at times to utilize his strength vs double teams getting washed out despite his anchor ability and becoming a non factor. Bain will win every rep off the LOS but he does struggle when tackles are able to plant on his inner shoulder causing him to have to adjust to his non dominant hand where he’s not as refined with his pass rush technique. Bain takes consistent bad angles in space and will whiff a good bit of tackles outside the tackles or TE in the NFL till he’s able to adjust better into space laterally and understand pursuit angles. Multiple clips of Bain making the wrong read, failing to set the edge, or getting washed out result in him making a play near the LOS due to his athletic ability but that will be exposed more in the NFL where Bain does struggle making the right read in option concepts or RPO instances. Bain is listed at 6’3, but there’s a real world he’s barely 6’2 or just over the mark which will cause some concerns into the NFL. From a pure box score line in three seasons, Bain has registered 104 tackles, 25.5 TFL, and 15.5 sacks with just 9 sacks in the last two seasons which is below average for a prospect his level though his pressure rate and win rate are highly above average to counter that.

Rueben Bain Jr. had 0 sacks, but was the main reason Stanford's offense couldn't function. All of this is from 48 snaps pic.twitter.com/DtCVZaabxm

— James Foster (@NoFlagsFilm) October 27, 2025

Grade: 1.41- Mid Round 1

Pro-Comp: Tuli Tuipulotu (LAC)

Bain is going to be a fascinating prospect. he’s got the athletic traits and strength to blow anyone away and should be dominant the combine if he chooses to participate. The true junior will be knocked for his very below average height and questionable arm length but he does showcase the ability to make up for this vs NFL caliber competition though how often he’ll be able to do the same things he does at Miami in the NFL are going to be a massive question. Bain is a high motor, high effort edge rusher with natural strength and advanced technique for his age, the main point is to not overthink how effective, efficient, and impactful he is due to measurables. Teams will have to “risk” things when considering him but he will reward that risk and likely go on to have a multi 10+ sack stretch a few points in his career. The Raiders need to get a running mate with Maxx Crosby, as Malcolm Koonce and Tyree Wilson have struggled and Bain would provide what they’re looking for, that said the main issue arises with his fit. Las Vegas is going to have the first overall pick, and Bain just can’t be the pick over a QB.

Geno Smith good to go for Houston Texans’ game

Geno Smith

As expected, Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback Geno Smith will be play Sunday at the Houston Texans on Sunday. Kickoff is at 1:25 pm. PT.

Raiders coach Pete Carroll announced Friday afternoon that Smith will star Sunday and for the rest of the season.

Smith practiced fully all week (Carroll liked what he saw) after he missed Sunday’s 31-0 shutout loss at the Philadelphia Eagles as the Raiders dropped to 2-12. It was Smith’s first missed game of the season. He was dealing with shoulder and back injuries. Thus, Smith were lead Las Vegas’ offense against the Texans, who have the NFL’s No. 1 ranked defense. The Raiders of course, have the league’s worst-ranked offense.

Backup Kenny Pickett played against the Eagles. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 64 yards as the Raiders compiled just 75 total yards of offense, their lowest output in a game since the 1961 season.

Standout left tackle Kolton Miller has not been activated from the injured reserve. If he isn’t lifted from the injured reserve by the end of next week, his season will be over. He practiced the past two weeks on a limited basis. He hasn’t played since Week 4 because of an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, for Houston, star cornerback Derek Stingley (Oblique), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (ankle/knee) and running back Woody Marks (ankle) are all questionable to play after being limited Friday. They are key players for the Texans.

Raider Nation drops to their lowest confidence of the season

gettyimages-2250604762.jpg

The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-12 after eight losses in a row. It has left fans looking to the draft to see if they can add their franchise quarterback of the future.

It was another disastrous performance from the Silver and Black in a 31-0 loss. Next up, they face the hot Houston Texans on the road, where they are 14.5-point underdogs, which is their biggest spread of the season. They are the favorite to pick number one in the draft this spring, and it would be a massive upset if they beat the Texans.

In this week’s SB Nation Reacts, we ask Raider Nation what their confidence is in the team’s direction. Heading into Week 16, the Nation is not excited about the future. We saw a drop from 10% to their lowest of the season, at 6% confidence in the team’s direction.

It might drop even lower if it is another blowout against the Texans. With Geno Smith back in the lineup, the team will hope to make it a game worth watching.

Josh Jacobs’ fumble costs Green Bay Packers big

Josh Jacobs

Week 16 provided what should be considered an encouraging loss for the Las Vegas Raiders, falling to the Houston Texans by just two points. But let’s check in and see how the weekend treated a few old friends: Josh Jacobs, Tre’von Moehrig and K’Lavon Chaisson.

Josh Jacobs

  • Game result: 16-22, Bears lose
  • Stats: 12 carries, 36 yards, 2 catches, 12 yards

Jacobs has had a good season, but this is a game he’ll want to forget. Not only was he unproductive while being on a pitch count due to an injury, but he also had a costly fumble in the third quarter that changed the game. Jacobs coughed the ball up on the Chicago Bears’ three-yard line, turning what could have been a touchdown or at least a field goal into a spark that helped ignite the Bears’ comeback. Granted, Chicago didn’t score, and Green Bay did take a 13-3 lead, but the lost points were costly in the Packers’ overtime loss. That also gives the Bears a 1.5-game lead in the NFC North with two weeks to play. Green Bay is clinging to the final NFC Wild Card spot with games against the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings left on the schedule.

Tre’von Moehrig

  • Game result: 23-20, Panthers win
  • Stats: 7 tackles

This was a massive win for the Carolina Panthers. They blew a chance at taking control of the NFC South last week but took full advantage on Sunday by beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. That gives Carolina a chance to win the division if it completes the season sweep of Tampa Bay in Week 18. Meanwhile, Moehrig was active, finishing third on the team in total tackles. That gives him 93 tackles on the year, which is 11 short of tying his career-high with the Raiders last season.

K’Lavon Chaisson

  • Game result: 28-24, Patriots win
  • Stats: 3 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 QB hit, 1 FF

After dropping a game to the Buffalo Bills last week, the New England Patriots got back on track to maintain their one-game lead in the division. It was a hard-fought contest where the Patriots had to mount a two-possession fourth-quarter comeback against the Baltimore Ravens, and the play that sealed the ‘W’ for New England was an excellent effort from Chaisson. The defensive end chased down wide receiver Zay Flowers from behind and punched the ball out of Flowers’ hands shortly after the two-minute warning, allowing the Pats to kneel out the win. Chaisson has put together another strong campaign, surpassing last year’s career-high with 6.5 sacks in 2025.

Ashton Jeanty silences doubters against stout Houston Texans’ defense

Ashton Jeanty

It’s been a tough rookie season for Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty. The No. 6 overall pick has been running behind a terrible offensive line and hasn’t had much breathing room for the majority of the year, leading to a stat line that falls well short of many people’s expectations. However, even in a loss to the Houston Texans, the Boise State product managed to silence a lot of doubters.

The Texans came into Week 16 with the NFL’s top-ranked defense, and Jeanty managed to find the end zone twice against them. Once on a 60-yard touchdown catch that gave the Raiders a one-point lead in the third quarter, and the other score came on a 51-yard run to make it a one-possession contest with 5:24 to play.

He ended the day with 188 yards from scrimmage, including 128 and 5.3 yards per carry on the ground, to provide some encouragement heading into next season. So, despite Las Vegas leaving Houston with a 23-21 loss, this was about as good a performance as the 2-13 club could have asked for, and it leads to a much more positive tone from the internet compared to the last couple of months.

The route and run from Jeanty were things of beauty!

Now imagine Jeanty when the line can consistently get some push in the run game.

2026 Las Vegas Raiders Draft Scouting: Jacob Rodriguez

imagn-27736185.jpg

Position: Inside Linebacker

Height: 6’1

Weight: 235

Stats: 2025 (13 games) – 117 tackles, 11 TFL, sack, 4 INT, 6 PBU, 2 FR, TD, 7 FF | 52/63, 487 yds, 2 TD allowed, 83.0 QBR targeted | 13% miss tackle rate, 65 run stops

Class/Age: Senior, 22

Team: Texas Tech

Positives:

Rodriguez has a true knack for the ball, he’s an incredibly intelligent inside linebacker who understands the position to an exceptional level. As a former QB he understands run fits, pass drops, and coverage lanes exceptionally well showing good ability to break on the ball in both run and pass situations. Rodriguez has a great initial downhill trigger that allows him to paly aggressive at the POA and utilize his initial burst and quickness effectively. Rodriguez displays strong pursuit skills to pair with an exceptional motor that consistently allows him to stay involved in plays through the entire rep and sideline to sideline. Additionally, Rodriguez shows a great understanding of the run game with the ability to track down backside rushers, utilize strength at the POA to defeat the interior line. The RS Senior is a violent physical player that consistently uses his strength and aggression in both phases of the game staying physical through route concepts and at the POA. Rodriguez best trait comes with his 10 yard burst where he shows great closing speed coming downhill or collapsing on a passing lane to make a play on the ball paired with his instincts. This also shows up as a Blitzer where Rodriguez has an innate ability to play patient and trigger downhill quickly to close the gap. He showcases good foot speed and ankle flexibility along with the ability to play off the balls of his feet keeping his weight balanced and consistent.

Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez is in the running for “Every fan base wants this guy” on here for the 2026 Draft class.

Past winners:
2025 CJ West
2024 Javon Baker
2023 John Michael Schmitz

🎥 @Linebackers_U https://t.co/243qxICQtO pic.twitter.com/HIWH4nHWg8

— Clint Goss (@NFLDraftDome) November 20, 2025

Weakness:

Rodriguez is likely to transition to the weakside position in the NFL being undersized at the mike position for the NFL role. Additionally, Rodriguez likely isn’t going to test exceptionally well and does showcase instances of having some stiff hips, inconsistent footwork, along with the frame that can limit him in the run game vs larger lineman despite his aggression and strength. Rodriguez takes poor tackling angles at time to OZ run situations, where he also has a tendency to show some over pursuit his assignment at times as well. Rodriguez isn’t the best in coverage often getting beaten throughout a second burst due to his weakness in long speed situations. Additionally, the coverage instincts within 0-10 yards are elite due to his natural feel and closing speed but beyond the 10 yard mark start to become an issue with Rodriguez showing times of abandoning his gap, not carrying defenders fully, or simply missing on an assignment at times as well. Despite playing 4 seasons at the position, there’s numerous instances of Rodriguez looking confused or out of place and consistent playtime and coaching in the NFL will be necessary.

Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez: Round 3-4

+ Relentless motor
+ Great coverage instincts
+ Athleticism in space
+ Precise angles in pursuit
– Average measurables
– Ankle-bite tackler too often pic.twitter.com/CkjFfbhjbB

— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) December 6, 2025

Grade: 3.92 – Late Round 3

Pro-Comp: Matt Milano (Bills)

Rodriguez is a playmaker with 306 tackles, 26 TFL, 6 sacks, 6 INT, 12 PBU, 5 FR, and 13 FF in his 55 game career. Rodriguez is talented coming downhill vs the run due to his downhill trigger and instincts vs the run. Rodriguez is going to struggle to adapt to the NFL largely due to his average athleticism and stiff hips which will limit his ability to matchup with athletic tight ends and work a zone heavy system as well with his lack of experience at the position. He’s a highly productive player that will develop into being a productive linebacker but his lack of athleticism is likely to limit his true upside and he’ll need to get consistent as well with his aggression and over pursuit which comes with time. The Raiders absolutely need to address their linebacker room this season, consistently failing to address the position and invest true capital into the room. With the Raiders holding 6 picks inside the top four rounds, Rodriguez could be a very good fit with his leadership, motor, and ceiling.

Ashton Jeanty’s stats provides optimism for Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17 NFL Power Rankings

Ashton Jeanty

The Las Vegas Raiders have been looking for silver linings over the past couple of months, and those have been hard to come by. However, Ashton Jeanty’s 188-yard and two-touchdown performance against the Houston Texans last Sunday provided the Raiders with what they’ve been looking for. So, while the team is still at the bottom of the league in the Week 17 NFL Power Rankings, there is a little more optimism in Las Vegas this time around.

ESPN

32. Las Vegas Raiders

Last week: 32

Jeanty, the No. 6 pick, hasn’t had the season he and many others expected. But his performance against the Texans (188 total yards and two touchdowns) was a reminder of why the Raiders drafted him so high. Despite the Raiders’ run-blocking struggles, Jeanty has still gained 828 yards and 10 total touchdowns. “I’m sure there’s people questioning and doubting [Jeanty],” coach Pete Carroll said Sunday. “It can mount on a young guy, can mount on anybody. For him to show like that, it’s a beautiful expression of who he is and what he’s all about.” Ryan McFadden

It’s kind of crazy that despite how frustrating this season has been for the Boise State product, he’s still only 172 rushing yards away from reaching 1,000 yards in year one. That’d be a significant accomplishment considering how bad the offensive line has been this year. It’s also attainable since the New York Giants allow the second-most rushing yards per game (150.9) this season, and the Kansas City Chiefs gave up 164 yards on the ground to the Tennessee Titans last week.

NFL.com

32. Las Vegas Raiders

Last week: 32

Pete Carroll might be embattled, and the Raiders might have lost their ninth straight game, but they came out and battled the Texans for four quarters in Houston, nearly pulling out what would have been a shocking win. The best aspect, regardless of what happens after the season, was seeing Ashton Jeanty break out for his best game of the year, with a 60-yard TD catch to give the Raiders a third-quarter lead and a 51-yard TD run that made it a two-point game with under six minutes remaining. The Raiders couldn’t pull it out, but seeing Jeanty thrive was one of the more welcome developments in a lost season. — Eric Edholm

Even more encouraging, Jeanty broke 11 tackles last week, according to Pro Football Focus, which was three more than any other running back in the league. He also ranked second with 106 rushing yards after contact, three yards behind Saquon Barkley and 31 yards more than anyone else. Not a bad day for the rookie!

Bleacher Report

32. Las Vegas Raiders

Last week: 32

The Las Vegas Raiders had their best showing in months, thanks to Ashton Jeanty’s breakout game, racking up 188 scrimmage yards and scoring two touchdowns against the Houston Texans’ No. 1 defense in points and total yards. Behind arguably the league’s worst offensive line, which includes a few backups, Jeanty flashed his star potential in a matchup with the league’s best defensive unit. Coming off a career day, the rookie first-rounder proved he can make the best of a bad situation with a subpar supporting cast. Still, the Raiders remain at the bottom of the power rankings, in need of a lot of help across their roster.Moe Moton

Adding to Moton’s point, 703 or nearly 85 percent of Jeanty’s rushing yards this season have come after first contact, per PFF. Give the man just an average offensive line this offseason and watch him thrive.

The Athletic

32. Las Vegas Raiders

Last week: 32

One concern: This Sunday’s game

Maybe this is too simplistic, but the Raiders need to lose Sunday. The Giants have their quarterback. If New York lands the No. 1 pick, it can trade back and load up on picks. But Las Vegas needs the No. 1 pick to get a QB and begin a hard reset. — Chad Graff, Josh Kendall

I completely agree with Graff and Kendall, but if Las Vegas plays the way it did last Sunday, the offense could easily put up 30 points against New York. Like the Texans, the Giants do have a good defensive line, but the backend of the defense is what separates those two, as the G-Men’s secondary has some major issues. Also, their d-line is built to get after the quarterback rather than stop the run, minus Dexter Lawrence. So, this game is very winnable for the Raiders, and the same goes for next week against the Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs.

Sports Illustrated

30. Las Vegas Raiders

Last week: 32

Tough break for Chip Kelly, who was dismissed as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator and may have gotten edged out for the Tar Heels’ offensive coordinator job by Bobby Petrino. On second thought, leaving Las Vegas for Chapel Hill sounds like its own version of football hell. — Conor Orr

Orr’s analysis doesn’t provide any insight into people who are still with the organization, but interestingly, he’s the only person to move the Silver and Black up in the rankings. For the record, the New York Jets (31) and “Topeka” Chiefs (32) are the two teams that dropped. Orr cites the Chiefs’ upcoming move as his rationale, and one has to imagine losing by three possessions to the Titans while being down to a quarterback no one has ever heard of, plays a major factor in that decision, too.

Raiders roster: Get to know Brodic Martin

Brodic Martin

The Las Vegas Raiders claimed defensive tackle Brodic Martin to their 53-man roster late last week.

Let’s take a closer look at Martin:

Size:

6-5, 330 pounds.

NFL experience:

The Detroit Lions drafted him in the third round in 2023. He played in five games with one start in two seasons for the Lions. He was cut by the Lions in August. He spent some time on Kansas City’s practice squad this year and he appeared in one game with the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. He has four career tackles.

How acquired:

The Raiders claimed him off waivers from the Steelers on Friday, a day after he was waived. The Raiders waived rookie defensive end Jahfari Harvey (who was promoted from the practice squad three days earlier) to make room for Martin.

College:

He was at North Alabama from 2017-2020 and Western Kentucky spanning 2021-22.

How he will fit in with Raiders:

Martin, 26, could get some looks in the final two games. He is a true nose tackle and could get some looks next year and be given a chance to stick around.

Analyzing Devin White free agent market

gettyimages-2235846760.jpg

Las Vegas Raiders ILB Devin White broke the Raiders single season tackle record after logging 11 tackles vs Houston on Sunday in a 23-21 loss bringing his season total to 160 tackles and just the 12th player since 2019 to record 160+ tackles in a single season. White has logged a total 160 tackles, 10 TFL, sack, 4 QB Hits, INT, 2 PBU, and forced fumble this season. Without his game vs the Titans, White has failed to log a sack or forced turnover this season. Despite his production, the near 28 year old linebacker has struggled immensely at times with a near NFL leading 24 missed tackles (13% rate) while allowing the most receptions (71), on the most targets (88) of any linebacker this season with the highest reception rate allowed (81%). In addition he’s allowed the 3rd most yardage (533) though he’s allowed just one touchdown and a 92 QBR.

The Raiders signed White to a 1 year, 1.125 league minimum contract this season and the former All-Pro ILB has turned in a strong season on the stat sheet, but his film does not share the same message. White has consistently missed his assignments in the run game, abandoned passing windows, had instances of lacking effort, and also been a below average linebacker across the board. High tackle numbers often indicate a players struggles in terms of coverage, and White’s average depth of tackle has been 5.7 yards the lowest of all top 25 tackle leaders. White has been successful in stints as a run defender with good athletic ability, downhill trigger, and instincts against the run. White’s success has been very limited and doesn’t showcase much going forward as a starting caliber linebacker for the Raiders, or possibly most of the NFL as well.

Yeah…I kinda get why Maxx Crosby was chewing out Devin White. pic.twitter.com/pePRUqZ8XP

Free Agent Market & Preview

The 2026 linebacker free agent class is fairly strong with notable names Devin Lloyd, Demario Davis, Kaden Elliss, and Alex Singleton leading the way. Additionally, some other notable names including Lavonte David, Bobby Wagner, Quay Walker, Germaine Pratt (blast from the past), Matt Milano, D’Marco Jackson, Leo Chenal, and Nakobe Dean among many others will be slated to hit the market. White currently projects as one of the lower tier linebackers to hit the market regardless of his production and snap counts. White currently projects to receive a 2 year, 14.5 million contract with 9.2 million guaranteed. Given his struggles in coverage and the notable lack of effort and run defense flaws that contract likely exceeds the value especially when given the other linebackers slated to hit the market for similar value at 7.25 million a season. Additionally, fellow Raiders ILB Elandon Roberts who has performed at a better level in the run and pass game along with having less flaws with effort on film, projects to only receive a 1 year, 4.4 million contract.

Raiders roster: Getting to know Shedrick Jackson

Shedrick Jackson

The Las Vegas Raiders promoted wide receiver Shedrick Jackson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad this week. Let’s get to know him:

Size:

6-1, 195 pounds.

NFL experience:

He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023 as an undrafted free agent. He started the season on the practice squad after not making the initial 53-man roster in August. He finished the season on the 53-man roster. He didn’t make the team again in training camp in 2024 and started the season on the practice squad before being released in September. He played in five games with the Bengals with no catches. He was mostly a special-teams player. The Raiders signed Jackson to the practice squad in December and was signed a future contract in January. He didn’t make the Raiders after a strong preseason. He was signed to the practice squad and was elevated for games three times. He caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kenny Pickett against the Denver broncos in Week 14. It was his first NFL reception.

College:

Jackson went to Auburn. He started 29 career college games and had 66 career catches.

Raiders history:

He is the great nephew of former Raiders’ running back Bo Jackson.

How he will fit in with Raiders:

Jackson, who turns 26 in October, could get some limited playing time in the final two games and have a chance to impress for next season.

Ending in a tie? That’d be a fitting Week 17 result for Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders head coach smiles at the crowd before the team’s game against the Houston Texans last Sunday.

With both the host Las Vegas Raiders and visiting New York Giants entering their Week 17 matchup riding nine-game losing skids, conventional wisdom says one of those teams will snap its horrendous streak.

Both teams are 2-13 on the year, haven’t won a game since early October, have gone through coaching staff upheaval, and are in a battle for the top pick in next year’s draft. Hence the moniker of this Sunday afternoon matchup as: The No. 1 Pick In The 2026 NFL Draft Bowl.

But the Silver & Black and the G-Men have been anything but conventional.

Normalcy is not a word either franchise can truly define. And thus, in a battle of the bad, with the top pick on the line, this Week 17 matchup ending up in tie between the Giants and Raiders would be a hilariously fitting end result.

That’d leave both teams 2-13-1 and trigger some tie breaker scenarios to determine which squad picks No. 1 overall next April and the arguments and fervor would be entertaining to consume. That means a deep dive into record, strength of schedule (SOS), divisional/conference ties, then to combined points for/against, and last resort, a coin toss.

From https://t.co/FuqWsC9MC2 but take note of the strength of schedule for #Giants and #Raiders as the two 2-13 teams get ready to collide in Las Vegas this Sunday. #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/Z9UgMPunKI

— Ray Aspuria (@AsukalAspuria) December 23, 2025

The Raiders are no stranger to a coin toss determining draft order, after all. You just have to go think back on about seven years ago.

Back in the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, a televised coin toss determined the ninth and 10th overall pick in that year’s draft between the Silver & Black and San Francisco 49ers. The coin was flipped by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson and the Niners won allowing the team to take Mike McGlinchey (with the Denver Broncos the last three seasons) ninth while the Raiders traded down from 10 to take Kolton Miller (still in Silver & Black) 15th overall.

But forget that noise.

Cut and dry clarity is best. And a definitive roadmap on what lies ahead is ideal for a Raiders team in dire need of a rebuild. And to alleviate the myriad of scenarios, an outright win or loss by the Raiders against the visiting Giants in Week 17 and in the season finale against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs simplify matters.

Now, I’m not obtuse.

There’s a portion of Raider Nation that wants back-to-back loses so its beloved team obtains the highest draft pick it can to help reshape the franchise. Those with this notion have eyes set on the Raiders obtaining the No. 1 overall pick to select a quarterback prospect to solve the long-standing signal caller conundrum in the desert.

#Raiders DE Maxx Crosby on the No. 1 pick being on the line against the Giants on Sunday: “Yeah, I don't give a shit about the pick. I don't play for that.”

— Ryan McFadden (@ryanmcfadden_) December 23, 2025

Yet, as you can see from the above, Las Vegas is eyeing a win — despite how elusive and rare those have been. And Maxx Crosby isn’t alone in that sentiment. The Raiders are publicly going with the “you play to win the game” mantra. (And we won’t know what’s said behind closed doors).

“I do it really well,” Las Vegas head coach Pete Carroll said on Monday when asked how does he block out the noise about the number one pick being on the line this Sunday against New York. “Yeah, I’m not really that concerned about any of that, and I don’t think you want me to be. We’re going to go play and play the best we can play and see what happens.”

Ditto for quarterback Geno Smith during his media availability on Tuesday.

“Yeah, we play to win,” he said when broached with fan significant portion of the fan base wanting losses and not wins. “We deserve to go out there and have a chance to win. And so, we play to go out there and win. A lot of guys work hard, extremely hard. And unfortunately, the season is going the way that it’s going, but we put ourselves in this position, and we’ve got to finish the season out the right way. And so, that’s what we’re focused on inside the locker room.”

We’ll see what kind of performance the Raiders have in the final two weeks. Las Vegas is a bad overall football team, but did make the Houston Texans top-ranked defense look foolish. And if the Silver & Black replicate the effort in the 23-21 loss in Houston the next two games, back-to-back victories are plausible.

If the NFL is smart, they’d swap this game with BAL-GB for the Saturday night Peacock game and make a special rule where the winner gets the No. 1 pick of the draft https://t.co/J1UGEJUW4y

— Matt Holder (@MHolder95) December 22, 2025

That all noted, it’s hard to ignore the fact Las Vegas sent tight end Brock Bowers and safety Jeremy Chinn to injured reserve Wednesday morning. Without their ultra-talented and productive pass-catching tight end and starting strong safety, perhaps a tie is a distinct possibility.

I agree with our Matt Holder: This “Stinker Bowl” — as the New York Post dubs Sunday’s contest in Las Vegas — should be a primetime evening matchup instead of an afternoon one. It’d be a highly viewed tilt between two 2-13 teams for the No. 1 pick implications alone.

But, I’ll settle for Kevin Harlan and Trent Green being on the call for the CBS broadcast. Harlan has a career chalk full of memorable calls across a variety of sporting landscapes. And him being the voice of the Stinker Bowl should provide some entertaining moments — win, lose, or draw.

Especially if it’s a draw.

Making Ashton Jeanty focal point key in Week 17

Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty (2) had a two-touchdown performance in Week 16.

As a Brock Bowers truther, writing “the offense must flow through Bowers” was excellent source material.

After all, the tight end is the Las Vegas Raiders best pass-catching option and the Georgia product runs routes and gets separation like a wide receiver even at his size at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds. The 23-year-old paces the Silver & Black’s aerial attack with 64 receptions for 680 yards and seven touchdowns.

But that’s where Bowers’ 2025 stats will remain.

The Raiders placed their ultra-talented and productive tight end on injured reserve Wednesday, and as a result, a narrative shift is apt.

“Well, it’s always a next man up mindset. I think any coach that you’ve ever interviewed would tell you that. No one feels sorry for you. Nobody cares, to be honest with you,” Raiders interim offensive coordinator Greg Olson said on how big of a loss Bowers going to IR is. “And as coaches, we preach that all the time within practice. Sometimes you’ll pull a player out and make a backup step up to kind of prepare him for those situations. But the whole next man up mindset kind of carries you through.”

Thus: Making Ashton Jeanty the focal point is key for the Silver & Black — in both Week 17 and the season finale next Sunday.

#RAIDERS ROSTER MOVES:

– Placed TE Brock Bowers and S Jeremy Chinn on the Reserve/Injured List

– Signed S Terrell Edmunds and WR Shedrick Jackson to the active roster

– Signed #39 LS Luke Elkin and #77 T Joshua Miles to the practice squad

By The Numbers
Ashton Jeanty

  • Rushing: 224 carries, 828 yards (long of 64), 5 touchdowns, 37 first downs
  • Receiving: 50 receptions, 326 yards (long of 60), 5 touchdowns, 12 first downs

With Bowers out of commission, Jeanty is the de facto offense for Las Vegas. In the 23-21 loss at the Houston Texans in Week 16, the Raiders’ 22-year-old tailback had 25 touches to produce 128 rushing yards and a touchdown and one reception for 60 yards and an additional end zone visit. Those 25 touches represents the third time Las Vegas provided volume to its sixth overall pick.

And against the incoming New York Giants, another 25-touch outing — perhaps even more — is an opportune time to flow the offense through Jeanty. Due in large part to the G-Men’s second-worst ranked rushing defense (2,224 yards allowed) that also ranks 28th in rushing touchdowns given up (19), Olson would be wise to feed his capable running back.

New York hasn’t held an opponent’s ground game to under 100 yards since Week 5 and 6 (two months ago) when the defense held the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles to 88 and 77 rushing yards, respectively. The the last four games, the Giants yielded a grand total of 615 yards on the ground.

Get Jeanty 20-plus carries and receptions in the passing game and see where the chips fall. See if the adjustments from a using a majority of zone blocking scheme to more man/power concepts proves fruitful in back-to-back games.

Ashton Jeanty showed why he was a blue chip prospect and a top 6 NFL pick against the best defense in the NFL.

“Yeah, I felt like we ID-ed it better, and our fits were better when you looked at it,” Olson explained on the offensive line coming together last week in Houston. “And I thought we controlled the line of scrimmage for the most part when you look at it, and you’re not going to win every match up, but when you go through the course of the game and you look at the number of runs that were called, how many did we control the line of scrimmage, and how many did they control the line of scrimmage? And I felt like it was our best game in that regard. But it also came down to our fits were better and our ID was better at the line of scrimmage.”

Quotes of Note

“I really think he could play receiver. I think he could be a slot receiver in this league. He’s got great hands. He’s great out of the backfield. He understands spacing, and he just knows what to do. I mean, you can tell he understands the game, and when he gets the ball in his hands, whether that’s in the backfield or in the catching game, he’s so explosive and dynamic. And so, however we can get him the ball in space, that’s what we try to do, and you see what he does when he gets that opportunity.”

“The runs that he had for the six and eight yards, or the five and six yards, were some of his best. He was tough as hell. He was fighting and clawing and scratching, and the guys were pushing the piles, and he was lunging forward. And eventually, like with a great runner, it happens and there’s the space, and then he’s gone. And so, I thought he played a tremendous game. We went deep to him a couple times in practice last week, and he made the same plays in practice. And the play comes up in the game — it’s no big deal. And matter of fact, he made kind of a circus catch in practice one day on the same play. And so, he’s a big-time performer.”

Maxx Crosby leaves Las Vegas Raiders’ facility after getting shut down for final 2 games

Maxx Crosby

The Las Vegas Raiders informed defensive end Maxx Crosby that they are shutting him down and he won’t play in the Raiders’ final two regular-season games against the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. Reportedly, that caused a disagreement between Crosby and the club, leading to the Pro Bowler leaving the facility.

Scoopage: Raiders told Maxx Crosby they want to shut him down last two games. Crosby, who has played with injuries for much of the year, vehemently disagreed and has left the building @nflonfox has learned. This could lead to questions on his future in Vegas

Las Vegas was eliminated from the playoffs at the end of November and has a chance to earn the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft with a loss to New York, which currently owns the top selection, on Sunday. However, Crosby has made it no secret that he wanted to finish out the season. Earlier this week, he said that he “doesn’t give a s*** about the pick” and “doesn’t play for that”.

Crosby has been dealing with a knee injury this season, missing at least one practice per week regularly, and didn’t practice at all this week. This news also comes after Las Vegas put Pro Bowl tight end Brock Bowers and starting safety Jeremy Chinn on injured reserve on Wednesday. So, there are plenty of signs that the organization has its sights set on the first overall pick in April.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vincent Bonsignore, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed that the Raiders are shutting Crosby down. ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reported that Carroll said, “I have no other information about anybody else right now,” when asked if he expects more players will be shut down this season.

Carroll’s full explanation of the Crosby situation can be seen via the video below from Jesse Merrick of Silver & Black Sports Network.

The Raiders also have to make a decision on starting left tackle Kolton Miller, who has spent the majority of the campaign on injured reserve. Miller had his 21-day practice window activated on Dec. 11, meaning he needs to be activated before the team’s final game in Week 18 to be eligible to play again this season.
