Why Pelicans got ESPN's only 'F' grade for 2025 offseason

It's been a perplexing offseason for the New Orleans Pelicans, who used their first round pick to draft Jeremiah Fears and then traded back into the first round to select Derik Queen. It was one of just several transactions from general manager Joe Dumars and company that puzzled fans. Recently, ESPN dished out their offseason grades for every NBA team, and the Pelicans were the only organization to receive an “F.” Kevin Pelton's main reasoning for the grade seemed to be the trade to get back into the first round and select Queen.

Pelicans sign former NBA champion to contract

The New Orleans Pelicans are under new management this upcoming season following the firing of David Griffin and hiring of Joe Dumars. After trading Brandon Ingram at last season's trade deadline, the team continued to reshape their roster by trading CJ McCollum to the Washington Wizards for Jordan Poole. It's the time of offseason where teams make roster moves on the margins, and the Pelicans did so with the signing of Jaden Springer, the team announced on Thursday.

Pelicans Make Announcement About Ex-Sixers First-Rounder

Jaden Springer has a new NBA home. The former Philadelphia 76ers draft pick has recently agreed to terms on a new deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, the team announced on Thursday night. Springer was believed to have a lot of upside in Philadelphia. When he entered the NBA, Springer was just 18, coming off one season at Tennessee.

NBA Legend Sets Challenge for Zion Williamson, Anthony Edwards

The NBA Dunk Contest has lost its luster over the last decade. Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine faced off nine years ago, and since then, the only "big names” to participate have been Victor Oladipo in 2018, a past-his-prime Dwight Howard in 2020 and Jaylen Brown in 2024. 2025's Dunk Contest was as lackluster as we've seen in recent memory for the casual NBA fan, featuring two rookies, Matas Buzelis and Stephon Castle; a G-League player in Mac McClung — now a three-time winner; and Andre Jackson Jr. Even if Buzelis and Castle continue to develop into star-caliber players, it wasn't a thrilling event.

Pelicans Sign Former Utah Jazz Guard

The New Orleans Pelicans have scooped up a former member of the Utah Jazz from the free agent market. According to a team release, the Pelicans have agreed to an Exhibit-9 deal with former Jazz guard Jaden Springer, who will be set to compete for a roster spot ahead of next season. For those that are curious, an Exhibit-9 contract is a non-guaranteed, one-year training camp deal, built to protect the team if a player were to suffer a significant injury in camp. Springer, the 6-foot-4, 204-pound guard and former 28th-overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, was most recently with the Jazz across the 2024-25 season.

Bronny James Opens Up About Health Struggles After NBA Summer League

Bronny James just wrapped up his second NBA Summer League stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, and his improvement from year one to year two was clear. Over a three-game stretch in Las Vegas—facing the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Boston Celtics—James averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. While he’s currently injury-free, James revealed in a recent interview with ESPN that he’s still experiencing lingering effects from the cardiac arrest he suffered just over two years ago, prior to his freshman season at USC.

1 move New Orleans Pelicans should've made in 2025 NBA offseason

When Joe Dumars took over the reins of the New Orleans Pelicans' front office, many expected sweeping changes and a clearer vision for the franchise. Are the Pelicans rebuilding around Zion Williamson? After a puzzling offseason that included trading for Jordan Poole and signing Kevon Looney, the Pelicans made their most consequential, and potentially most damaging, move on NBA Draft night. In an aggressive attempt to move up the board, New Orleans gave up the No. 23 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, plus their 2026 first-round pick swap with the Milwaukee Bucks, to move up and select center Derik Queen at No. 13.

New Orleans Pelicans makes successful move on former Suns asset

The New Orleans Pelicans are quietly building something special, and they just added another key piece to that puzzle. The team announced the hiring of Mike Hopkins as an assistant coach and head of player development, bringing in a respected basketball mind with over 30 years of experience at nearly every level of the game. Before joining the Phoenix Suns last season as an assistant coach, he spent seven years as the head coach at the University of Washington, where he was twice named Pac-12 Coach of the Year. Before that, he was a longtime assistant at Syracuse under Jim Boeheim, helping guide one of college basketball's most consistent programs for over two decades.

Who is Naji Marshall? 5 things to know about Mavericks' versatile enforcer

The 2025-26 NBA season is on the horizon and the Dallas Mavericks will hope to build upon flashes of good basketball seen last year that ended in a loss to the Grizzlies in the NBA play-in tournament. Rich Paul Admits Truth on Brandon Ingram Trade to Toronto Raptors

For years, it felt like the New Orleans Pelicans were desperately trying to trade their All-Star forward Brandon Ingram. The Pelicans found a suitor for Ingram, and it was a very unexpected one in the Toronto Raptors. Especially because if Ingram ever reached the open market, he probably would not have made the same money. During an interview with Sirius XM, Ingram's agent, Rich Paul from Klutch Sports, revealed the truth about Ingram's market.

Pelicans' Financial Future: Can New Orleans Build a Contender or Face a Reset?

Every NBA team eventually has to pay for its success, or at least for its hopes of success. For the New Orleans Pelicans, that bill has officially arrived. Coming into the 2025-26 season, the front office is looking at a payroll that could make even the richest owners sweat: about $180.6 million after swapping CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk for Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey. It's a top-heavy roster with big names and big numbers: Zion Williamson, Dejounte Murray, Poole, Trey Murphy III, and Herb Jones are the foundation.
