Lightning drop second overtime game in a row, 4-3

Marco Kasper kept the Detroit Red Wings playoff hopes alive by tying the game late in the third period, and then scoring the overtime winner as the Tampa Bay Lightning dropped their second consecutive overtime game, 4-3. Gage Goncalves had his first career multi-goal game as he gave the Bolts the lead early in the third period, but the Bolts weren’t able to hold the lead, and their chance to move…

Tampa Bay Lightning recall Conor Geekie

With Luke Glendening set to miss the rest of the regular season, and Oliver Bjorkstrand ailing, the Tampa Bay Lightning needed to restock the roster. Much to the dismay of Syracuse Crunch fans, their choice for a recall was one of the hottest scorers on the team – Conor Geekie. The Lightning made the recall official prior to their morning skate on Sunday. After surprising many by making…

The Lightning snap losing streak with convincing 7-4 win over Sabres

It could be a big hit. It could be a big save. Maybe it’s a spectacular goal or a wild, fist-flinging fight. The moments that spark a team to success are never known before they happen. They are only revealed after the final outcome. The final chapter on the Tampa Bay Lightning’s season hasn’t been written yet, but maybe, just maybe it’s something as simple as the opposing team not choosing to…

Oliver Bjorkstrand out “week-to-week” for the Tampa Bay Lightning

It appears that the primary reason for the recall of Conor Geekie was not whatever was ailing Luke Glendening, but a much more serious injury to Oliver Bjorkstrand. Following the Lightning’s morning skate prior to their game against the Buffalo Sabres, Coach Jon Cooper told the assembled media that Bjorkstrand is injured and set to be out “week-to-week” with a lower-body injury.

Lightning to meet Panthers in the first round, again

The rematch is on. Despite beating their in-state rivals and picking up another two points in the standings, the Tampa Bay Lightning are locked into the number two seed in the Atlantic Division branch of the playoffs thanks to the Buffalo Sabres inability to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. That means it’s the series we’ve all been waiting a year for – the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Florida…

Lightning end regular season on a flat note in 4-0 loss to Rangers

In the final game of legendary New York broadcaster Sam Rosen’s 40-year career, the New York Rangers shut out the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-0. Igor Shesterkin stopped 27 shots while Mika Zibanejad scored twice. Chris Kreider and Vincent Trocheck provdided the rest of the offense. For the Lightning, there wasn’t much to play for tonight and outside of a few brief moments, they played like a team…

A look back before we move forward

In Gary Bettman’s perfect NHL world, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers would meet in the playoffs every year for eternity. The bracketed playoff system is designed to build rivalries by guaranteeing that division rivals will meet frequently in the playoffs. So what if it also means that a 100-point team (or 98-point team) gets bounced in the first round? For the second year in a row…

How the 2024-25 Florida Panthers Playoff Roster Was Built

The Florida Panthers enter their first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning as the defending Stanley Cup champions. They also return a roster that has a lot of familiar faces from last season’s match-up, with some free agents sprinkled about. While the Lightning have relied on their depth draft picks to fill out their roster, the Panthers lean heavily on their first-round picks…

What are the Lightning going to miss with Oliver Bjorkstrand not available in Round 1

On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Lightning made it official as Coach Jon Cooper confirmed that Oliver Bjorkstrand will miss their opening series against the Florida Panthers. The 30-year-old forward has been out since April 11, and was originally ruled out “week-to-week” so it’s not a total shock that he won’t be back. Still, it’s a bit of a blow to the Lightning’s offense as they will now have to rely…

Previewing the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers first-round series

Pre-season, regular season, post-season. It doesn’t matter the season, the Tampa Bay Lighting and the Florida Panthers have played each other in all of them. There may not be two teams that know each other better in the NHL. For the second season in a row, and the fourth out of the last five, the two teams will meet in the post-season. For better or worse, whichever team has won the series…

Lightning lose Game 1, 6-2

Matthew Tkachuck returned to action for the Florida Panthers and provided an instant offensive spark as he scored twice, with both goals coming on the power play, as the visitors shocked the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 6-2 victory. Florida had just 16 shots on goal, but put 6 of them past Andrei Vasilevskiy. The Lightning’s power play struggled as Florida scored on all three opportunities…

Anthony Cirelli’s status for Game 2 unknown at this point

With Oliver Bjorkstrand already missing their first-round series, the last thing the Tampa Bay Lightning needed was to lose another key forward. Unfortunately, early in the second period, Anthony Cirelli headed to the locker room and wouldn’t return to action. Shortly after the departure of the eight-year veteran, the Florida Panthers reeled off three goals in five minutes to put a close game out…

Three Questions following the Lightning’s Game 1 loss

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost Game 1 to the Florida Panthers, 6-2. This was not the case of a close game blown open by empty-net goals at the end. Florida dropped a legitimate six goals on Tampa Bay, in the Lightning’s house. There are many ways a team would like to start a playoff series, this way probably ranks pretty far down on the list. However, it is just one game and one loss.
