Lightning drop second overtime game in a row, 4-3

Marco Kasper kept the Detroit Red Wings playoff hopes alive by tying the game late in the third period, and then scoring the overtime winner as the Tampa Bay Lightning dropped their second consecutive overtime game, 4-3. Gage Goncalves had his first career multi-goal game as he gave the Bolts the lead early in the third period, but the Bolts weren’t able to hold the lead, and their chance to move…

Tampa Bay Lightning recall Conor Geekie

With Luke Glendening set to miss the rest of the regular season, and Oliver Bjorkstrand ailing, the Tampa Bay Lightning needed to restock the roster. Much to the dismay of Syracuse Crunch fans, their choice for a recall was one of the hottest scorers on the team – Conor Geekie. The Lightning made the recall official prior to their morning skate on Sunday. After surprising many by making…

The Lightning snap losing streak with convincing 7-4 win over Sabres

It could be a big hit. It could be a big save. Maybe it’s a spectacular goal or a wild, fist-flinging fight. The moments that spark a team to success are never known before they happen. They are only revealed after the final outcome. The final chapter on the Tampa Bay Lightning’s season hasn’t been written yet, but maybe, just maybe it’s something as simple as the opposing team not choosing to…

Oliver Bjorkstrand out “week-to-week” for the Tampa Bay Lightning

It appears that the primary reason for the recall of Conor Geekie was not whatever was ailing Luke Glendening, but a much more serious injury to Oliver Bjorkstrand. Following the Lightning’s morning skate prior to their game against the Buffalo Sabres, Coach Jon Cooper told the assembled media that Bjorkstrand is injured and set to be out “week-to-week” with a lower-body injury.

Lightning to meet Panthers in the first round, again

The rematch is on. Despite beating their in-state rivals and picking up another two points in the standings, the Tampa Bay Lightning are locked into the number two seed in the Atlantic Division branch of the playoffs thanks to the Buffalo Sabres inability to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. That means it’s the series we’ve all been waiting a year for – the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Florida…

Lightning end regular season on a flat note in 4-0 loss to Rangers

In the final game of legendary New York broadcaster Sam Rosen’s 40-year career, the New York Rangers shut out the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-0. Igor Shesterkin stopped 27 shots while Mika Zibanejad scored twice. Chris Kreider and Vincent Trocheck provdided the rest of the offense. A look back before we move forward

In Gary Bettman’s perfect NHL world, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers would meet in the playoffs every year for eternity. The bracketed playoff system is designed to build rivalries by guaranteeing that division rivals will meet frequently in the playoffs. So what if it also means that a 100-point team (or 98-point team) gets bounced in the first round? For the second year in a row…
