Lightning score early, defend late to pick up 4-3 victory over the Bruins

With a 4-1 lead early in the second period it seemed like the Tampa Bay Lightning were well on their way to an easy victory over the Boston Bruins. Any experienced Bolts fan knew that they do very few things the easy way. Sure enough, the Bruins scored twice more in the second period to slice the lead to just one goal. However, the Lightning defense put together a solid third period…

Lightning lose tightly-played game in overtime to Capitals, 3-2

In a building where wins have been few and far between for the Tampa Bay Lightning, and on the second half of a back-to-back, the Bolts managed to grab the lead twice against the Washington Capitals. What they couldn’t do was hold the lead. A power play goal on a deflection by Tom Wilson tied the game in the third period, and a back-door, seeing-eye shot by Jakob Chychrun was the difference in the…

Lightning trade Pheonix Copley

Pheonix Copley’s forwarded mail had barely begun arriving before he was on the move again. After the Lightning claimed him on waivers two weeks ago, they traded him back to the Los Angeles Kings for the always popular future considerations. Hopefully, Julien BriseBois gets a nice steak from Ken Holland the next time he’s in Los Angeles. In short, it cost the Lightning nothing but a paycheck…

Crunch Wrap: Syracuse takes two from Hershey to open the season

It’s a new day in Syracuse as they start the season with a roster filled with new faces. The goal is to have these up every Tuesday, but we’ll see how things go. Syracuse Crunch 5 – Hershey Bears – 2 The Lines: Dylan Duke…

Lightning recall Steven Santini (report)

With Max Crozier sidelined after sustaining an undisclosed injury in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, it appears they have recalled Steven Santini from the Syracuse Crunch to serve as their seventh defenseman. Lightning battle, but fall in overtime (again) to Red Wings, 2-1

The mantra since the Tampa Bay Lightning’s overtime loss to Washington on Tuesday was that they needed to shoot the puck more. So what do they do? Spend the first 13 minutes of the game not shooting the puck. By the time Conor Geekie registered their first shot at the 13:37 mark, they were down 1-0 to the Red Wings. A flurry of activity in the third period that led to J.J. Moser’s first goal of…

Some more thoughts on… Brandon Hagel, the offense, and a slow start

The Tampa Bay Lightning are getting a bit of a break after a pair of back-to-backs on the road. It went, okay. They picked up their first win (against Boston of all teams) and then a pair of points in overtime losses before ending things with a loss to Columbus. It’s nice that they picked up a couple of points, but when the dust settled and the plane touched down at Tampa International…

Lightning make some roster moves, and a look down the road

With four days between games, the Tampa Bay Lightning made a couple of roster moves as they assigned forward Scott Sabourin and defenseman Steven Santini to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. While the moves don’t have a direct impact on the playing roster as neither suited up for the Lightning during their recent recall, it could be an indication that at least one player is ready to come back.

Lightning end road trip with 3-2 loss to Blue Jackets

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s final shot of the night was wristed just wide of the net by a frustrated Brandon Hagel. Seeing how it came a full second or two after the horn had sounded, the Columbus Blue Jackets took exception and buried Hagel under a sea of blue jerseys. When the teams were finally separated, Columbus went to celebrate, and the Lightning were left with another frustrating loss as…

Lightning make two roster moves

The Tampa Bay Lightning had the day off of the ice, but for the second day in a row, general manager Julien BriseBois was busy as he made a couple of roster moves. First, defenseman Charle-Edouard D’Astous was recalled from the Syracuse Crunch. In a corresponding move, Conor Geekie was loaned to the AHL affiliate. D’Astous, 27, signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Bolts this summer to…

Lightning juggle lines in practice as injured player returns

After an off day (at least on the ice) the Tampa Bay Lightning returned to practice on Tuesday with a little different look to their lines. It was encouraging to see a couple of faces skating regular shifts again as Nikita Kucherov returned from his illness and Zemgus Girgensons, out since the pre-season, took regular shifts on the fourth line. Is this what things are going to look like…

2025 Tampa Bay Lightning Top 25 Under 25: #9 Niko Huuhtanen

We pick the series back up with an intriguing prospect. In our very first inclusion of Niko Huutanen in the Top 25 Under 25, which was all the way back in 2022, Hardev titled the post “Niko Huutanen should be a top ten prospect”. From his mouth to our ears apparently, because the big power forward has now locked down the number nine spot for three consecutive…

Lightning recall prospect as they wait for injured forwards to return

With their two injured forwards still not set for return, the Tampa Bay Lightning added some depth to their roster as they recalled Dominic James from the Syracuse Crunch. It will likely be a short trip to Tampa for the 23-year-old forward as the team is hoping Zemgus Girgensons returns to action this weekend. James was signed by the Lightning this summer after the Chicago Blackhawks let his…

Lightning lose late to Blackhawks, 3-2

When you have to write 82+ recaps over the course of the season, there are times you hope for the dramatic narrative to develop at some point during the game so that the job is a little easier. Lightning pull ahead, stumble, pick themselves up in 4-3 win over the Ducks

For a moment in the second period, the Tampa Bay Lightning had shook off the shackles of their slow start and appeared to be on their way to a comfortable win against the Anaheim Ducks.
