TNF: Eagles vs Cowboys Game Thread

Thursday Night Football, Week 1. The 2025 NFL season kicks off tonight as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East showdown. The Eagles look to get off to a fast start defending their Super Bowl championship, while the Cowboys look to turn the page on a disappointing 7-10 campaign last season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a deep, talented team that finished in the top eight in the NFL last season both on offense and on defense. The Eagles offense features a formidable offensive line, a top dual threat quarterback in Jalen Hurts, the reigning NFL rushing champion in Saquon Barkley, and a couple of top wide receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. This loaded offense can beat you on the ground and through the air. The Cowboys will have their hands full trying to stop this multi-pronged attack.

The Dallas Cowboys feature a bottom five defense from last season and they just traded away their best defensive player, Micah Parsons. On paper the Cowboys defense looks completely overmatched against the Eagles offense. Their best hope for pulling off an upset to open the season rests with the Cowboys offense. After losing quarterback Dak Prescott to injury for the majority of last season, the Cowboys have a healthy Prescott looking to make up for lost time this year. The Cowboys added the talented wide receiver George Pickens to be the running mate to perennial Pro Bowl receiver CeeDee Lamb. The trio of Prescott, Pickens and Lamb should make for a dangerous air attack in Dallas. Perhaps that will be enough to keep this game in reach against the Eagles.

It’s the Eagles and the Cowboys tonight on Thursday Night Football to open the 2025 NFL season. Enjoy the game everybody.

Podcast: 2025 Jets Season Preview With Ian Eagle

imagn-22553503.jpg

There is nobody better to preview the 2025 New York Jets than Ian Eagle. Ian just called all three Jets preseason games. He also will be on the call for CBS Week 1 as the Jets take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium.

It has become a tradition for Ian to c0me by my podcast as a guest before the start of the regular season. This is the seventh time that Ian has been a visitor to preview the upcoming Jets season.

Thus it is my privilege to present the seventh annual Ian Eagle Locked On Jets season preview.

If you enjoy the show, please give it a like on YouTube and subscribe on your favorite podcast source.

This episode goes position by position through the Jets roster. We will be back tomorrow with a mini-episode where Ian and I discuss expectations for the Jets season, combatting pessimism in the fanbase after 14 straight seasons missing the Playoffs, and of course an update on the 2025 CBS blazer.

FNF: Chargers vs Chiefs Game Thread

gettyimages-2188416601.jpg

Tonight we have a rare Friday Night Football game. The Los Angeles Chargers are technically the home team in Brazil, where they face off against their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The headliner for the Chiefs is their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes, however, has not played like a superstar for a couple of years. Last year the Mahomes-led Chiefs offense was hardly intimidating, finishing 16th in the NFL in yards gained and 15th in points scored. Mahomes passed for less than 4000 yards and the Chiefs passing offense ranked just 21st in the NFL in net passing yards per attempt. This was far from the juggernaut offense we have seen from Mahomes and the Chiefs in years past. Instead, it was the Chiefs defense that carried the team, ranking 4th in the NFL in points allowed. Can Mahomes return to his superhuman ways? We’ll find out, starting tonight against the Chargers.

Last year Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh led an impressive turnaround for the franchise in his first season on the job. Rebounding from an awful 5 – 12 season in 2023, Harbaugh led the Chargers to an 11 – 6 record and a playoff berth. Now, in season two, Harbaugh and the Chargers look to build on last season’s success and take the next step, a division championship. Last year the Chargers had the NFL’s best defense in terms of points allowed. If they can somehow match that performance this year (a tall order, to be sure), that should go a long way towards emerging with a division title. There’s no time like the present to begin that quest. A victory over the Chiefs tonight would start the season with a bang for the Chargers. It won’t be easy, however. Beating the Chiefs never is. The Chargers have lost seven straight to Mahomes and company. Let’s see if they can break that streak tonight in Brazil.

It’s the Chargers and the Chiefs tonight on Friday Night Football. Enjoy the game everybody.
