The Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) will face the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) at 8:15 p.m. EST on Monday, Oct. 6, at EverBank Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 3-point underdogs and the total is set at 44.5 points.

Both teams are coming off impressive wins. Jacksonville got its first road win of the season by beating the 49ers 26-21, with former Niner Arik Armstead getting the game-clinching strip sack. It was the team’s fourth forced turnover of the day, and its 13th of the season.

Over the past decade, the 2018 Browns are the only other defense to record as many turnovers through the first four games of a season.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, defeated Lamar Jackson and the Ravens 37-20 to quiet any negative narratives. Their offense looked much better with Xavier Worthy back in the lineup, and Spags looks like Spags again. Jackson was held to under 200 total yards while Derrick Henry was limited to 58.

The Chiefs are back … but so are the Jags.

Jacksonville Jaguars Winners And Losers From Week 4: Lloyd, Defense Dominate

gettyimages-2237932137.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars and their defense have done the unthinkable once again.

In the team’s dramatic 26-21 win over the San Francisco 49ers, for the fourth straight game, the Jaguar defense picked off at least two passes and forced even more fumbles to secure a 3-1 record heading into Monday Night Football this week.

It’d be wrong to say Sunday afternoon’s game was pretty by any means but it was another instance of a gritty win and the defensive unit stepping up. Things are still somewhat early in the Liam Coen head coaching era, so maybe some of this ugliness is the sort of thing that comes with a new coach.

There is much to talk about following the win, plenty of which happened after the final whistle and on postgame podiums. But you can’t talk about Sunday’s game without mentioning our very first Winner…

WINNERS

Devin Lloyd

In the wise Twitter words of Jourdan Lewis, “Devin go be rich as a mf.”

Lewis is absolutely right, as Lloyd has played out of his mind ahead of a potential contract year. Sunday, Lloyd snagged a pair of game-changing interceptions. Those picks led to 10 points for the offense and can be directly tied to winning that football game.

Lloyd finished second on the team in tackles with eight but his presence was felt all over the field. Especially in a game where Foye Oluokun was in and out, Lloyd stepped up yet again and made play after play to keep the team in it.

The fourth-year Trent Baalke product has three picks this year and one fumble recovery. His pick numbers are tied for first in the league. He is also the first Jags linebacker to record a takeaway in three straight games. His three-game turnover streak is also the longest current streak in the NFL.

There was a time not too long ago when Lloyd couldn’t cover anything and could hardly tackle a toddler. Those days are gone with the wind, as Lloyd is positioning himself to be quite a rich man when this season ends if he can keep this up.

His interceptions weren’t the coolest plays in the world, so below I present this NFL Next Gen Stats graphic that has a bunch of crazy numbers and percentages that mean Lloyd was playing extremely well.

Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd added +56.3% in net win probability across five plays against the 49ers.

Lloyd intercepted two passes (+31.1% win probability), earned a pressure on a 4th quarter sack-fumble (+19.3%), and stuffed two runs at the LOS (+5.9%).#JAXvsSF | #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/BaVeRwwinF

Arik Armstead

Another player who has likely changed the fans’ outlook on himself is Arik Armstead.

Finally playing back along the interior, Armstead has solid production this year. His most important play of the season has to be forcing a fumble on San Fran’s final drive of the game, though. Doing so against his former team earned the veteran the game ball from Coen postgame.

In the past three games Armstead has put up stat lines of: a sack, a half sack, and now a sack plus a fumble forced.

It was a cool moment for Armstead to put the final nail in his old team’s coffin. With Oloukun recovering the fumble, the Jags hit lucky turnover number 13. Since 2016, only the ‘18 Browns have matched the Jags in terms of turnover numbers through four weeks.

Offensive Line Play

You can hem and haw about how Trevor Lawrence or the receivers are playing, but you can’t debate the offensive line is killing it.

Dealing with injuries through the day, the O-line didn’t miss a beat no matter who they put in. The Jags churned out 151 yards on the ground for the team’s third game over 130 yards rushing. The line also kept Lawrence upright, blanking a team in sacks for the second time this season as well.

You can even attribute a bit of the team’s zero turnovers on offense to the line. With Lawrence getting clean pockets (yes, Nick Bosa was hurt but still) he wasn’t rushed into any bad positions with the ball against the ‘9ers.

No one could have expected this level of production from the line, but this is how the Jags can overcome their rollercoaster offense. Running the ball and keeping the quarterback upright are two obvious paths to victory. The Jags have done a great job of both of those things thus far.

Travis Etienne

To go along with Lloyd, Travis Etienne is someone playing himself into some cash.

Sunday featured Etienne creating a big play yet again with his 48-yard touchdown scamper following the first 49ers’ turnover. He finished with a game-high 124 rushing yards on 19 carries. His day in the office pushed him to 394 rushing yards this year which is good for third in the league. Etienne has also already matched his rushing touchdown output from last year with his pair of scores.

The offensive line is giving Etienne the holes, the receivers are doing a great job of blocking for him and Etienne is making his moments count. He is probably the team’s best offensive player right now.

Returners

The Jags got a pair of good returns yesterday, both of which flipped Sunday’s game on its head.

Receiver Parker Washington fielded just one punt against the 49ers – who only punted twice due to turnovers – and housed it for 87 yards in the third quarter.

Despite what whiny Kyle Shanahan had to say about blocks in the back postgame, none were called on the field and the Jaguars took a commanding lead later in the contest, up 26-14. Without that return Jacksonville likely doesn’t win.

There is another return that might go slightly more unnoticed, since it didn’t end in a score. Rookie Bhayshul Tuten, who previously had struggled in the kick return game, caught a kickoff in the endzone and ran it back 54 yards. Getting his team past the 50 resulted in a Cam Little field goal. Much like a turnover, that score was in direct relation to the return.

Little moments like that win you football games. Big moments like punt return touchdowns are also nice.

Liam Coen

For some reason, the 49ers coaches just don’t like Coen. And Coen made it known he doesn’t care.

Everyone saw the postgame spat between San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and Coen. Most everyone probably saw Saleh talking all week about how Coen leads some sort of “legal sign stealing” operation. Shanahan has even made mention of the sign-stealing stuff and its potential impact.

What a bunch of crybabies.

Coen took the high road and didn’t say much at his press conference, making sure the world saw that he wasn’t going to be walked over by someone like Saleh. What a weird fight for those coaches to pick and what a wrong way to handle it.

Coen did what he needed to do and looks like the bigger man from it. Just a baffling display by a 49ers organization which normally should be considered the standard around the league.

The Al’s Pizza Bit

Anthony Campanile is the greatest football coach to ever live for getting his defense to play like this.

For the fourth straight week, Al’s Pizza gets to activate its promotion for half off pizza because the Jags snagged two picks. Lloyd should be in a commercial because of it. I am also open to any and all endorsement deals from Al’s due to keeping this bit alive.

LOSERS

Penalties

Now for the unfun stuff from Sunday.

That game was yet another sloppy showing from the Jags, largely on offense due to penalties. By game’s end, the Jags had 12 accepted penalties for 90 total yards. For reference the team’s top two receivers, Brian Thomas Jr. and Brenton Strange, combined for 94 yards receiving.

This is the second game with double-digit penalties for Jacksonville, which now has 38 accepted penalties. It should not surprise you that that number leads the league.

Lawrence and company were able to overcome some penalties on their 13-play touchdown drive but that won’t always happen. Penalties have been on the losers list all season. How long until these things cost the Jags a(nother) game?

Injuries

More in the abstract than straight up penalties is the injuries the Jags suffered in San Fran.

As mentioned previously, Oluokun dealt with some stuff and Travon Walker went down with a wrist injury he did not return from. Anton Harrison went down and came in and out. Patrick Mekari got banged up. Eric Murray got ruled out with a neck injury. Dyami Brown already wasn’t playing.

Maybe it is something about playing in San Fran that causes any team, including the home one, to suffer more injuries. Thankfully the Jags have a little bit longer to rest before playing on MNF but that many impact starters dealing with stuff is not a welcome sign.

Upset in Cali: Jaguars Stun 49ers, 26-21

gettyimages-2237947016.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense was dominant. The special teams made multiple explosive plays. The offense dominated on the ground while playing winning football. It wasn’t perfect, but it was effective.

Here’s everything you need to know from Jacksonville’s 26-21 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.

Live blog:

Catch up on all the big plays and best moments from tonight’s game in our live blog!

Pregame Notes:

The following 49ers did not play in this one: DL CJ West (hand), WR Jordan Watkins (calf), WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, RB Jordan James, and LB Nick Martin. Most notably, starting San Francisco CB Renardo Green was ruled inactive after being a Thursday limited participant and Friday DNP. Green initially suffered a neck issue from a week 3 hit on Zay Jones during their win over the Cardinals. 49ers WRs Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and QB Brock Purdy were all active with San Francisco also getting free agent WR Demarcus Robinson back from his three-game suspension on Sunday.

For Jacksonville, starting WR Dyami Brown was ruled a game-time inactive after limited practices on Thursday and Friday due to a shoulder injury suffered against the Houston Texans. LB Yasir Abdullah was previously ruled out late in the week due to a hamstring injury, after popping up on the injury report with a Friday limited practice. OL Wyatt Milum was again inactive after a full week of limited practices, as he recovers from his training camp knee injury. Preseason standout, rookie DL BJ Greene also made his regular season, gameday roster debut on Sunday.

1st Quarter

San Francisco started the day on offense, quickly picking up an early play action first down on a pass to 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk, followed by a third and 7 Christian McCaffrey 11-yard rush for a first down. However, the Jaguars’ defense held in the redzone, with DE Travon Walker pressuring Purdy on the incomplete third down attempt to force the field goal. 49ers K Eddy Pineiro made the 26-yard attempt to open the scoring, capping the 49ers’ 13-play, 57-yard. 6:27 drive with Jacksonville giving up 27 yards rushing on the drive. (Jaguars 0, 49ers 3)

Jacksonville’s opening series kicked off with a special teams mistake, as RB LeQuint Allen caught the kickoff that was heading out of bounds at the 7-yard line in error. However, the Jaguars offense quickly moved out of their redzone with a Brian Thomas Jr opening drive 14-yard catch, followed by an 11-yard Travis Etienne rush. The offense then picked up a fourth-and-one first down via a Trevor Lawrence QB sneak before eventually punting the ball away after a Brian Thomas third down reception was ruled incomplete, with Thomas unable to get the second foot down. Instead of attempting the 58-yard field goal, the team decided to punt, playing the field position game. However, Logan Cooke’s punt sailed, resulting in a touchback.

2nd Quarter

The Jaguars’ defense began their second series with a quick takeaway via LB Dennis Gardeck punching the ball loose from former Jacksonville TE Luke Farwell, which was recovered by S Andrew Wingard.

The Jacksonville offense, facing third-and-one, allowed the play clock to run to zero, forcing a third-and-6. However, they then immediately burned a timeout after again allowing the play clock to run to 1 second before running a play. Nevertheless, Lawrence found Strange for an 11-yard gain, extending the drive. The tight end party continued with TE Hunter Long securing back-to-back catches of 11 and 4 yards, with the latter a redzone touchdown. (Jaguars 14, 49ers 3)

The Jaguars’ defense then forced a quick three-and-out, as Dennis Gardeck and Jourdan Lewis made quick tackles for short gains on first and second down and Brock Purdy missing high on third down. After the Parker Washington fair catch of the 49ers punt, the Jacksonville offense took over at their own 30. However, Jacksonville also went three-and-out after Lawrence missed an open Strange high and on the back shoulder on third down, on a pass that was nearly intercepted by 49ers LB Fred Warner on the deflection. San Francisco, with 2:28 to go in the half, moved across the midfield after converting on third-and-10 with a Jake Tounges 14-yard catch, finding the hole in the Jacksonville zone. The Jacksonville defense again held within the redzone, forcing back-to-back endzone incompletions from the 5-yard line, with a 23-yard field goal. (Jaguars 14, 49ers 6)

RB Bhayshul Tuten then returned the following kickoff 54 yards, giving Jacksonville’s offense the ball in scoring range at the San Francisco 47. After driving into the 10-yard line with 15 seconds remaining, Jacksonville had an opportunity to take two shots in the endzone, with no timeouts left. However, Lawrence opted to throw a one-yard checkdown to Travis Etienne, resulting in a spike with two seconds to go in the half. Cam Little made the 26-yard attempt to wrap up the half. 3rd Quarter

The Jacksonville offense began the half out of sorts, with the offense facing an early third and two. The Jaguars rushed to the line of scrimmage late, snapping the ball with nearly no time on the play clock. With the timing of the blocking just slightly off, Travis Etienne ran into the back of the tight end, slowing his momentum, causing the rush to go for a gain of only one yard. Jacksonville was then flagged for another high-leverage delay of game, this time on fourth and 1, forcing the punt.

San Francisco then put together their best drive of the game, with Ricky Pearsall on the sideline, in the blue tent. However, Foye Oluokun was also on the sideline during the end of the drive, in addition to Travon Walker, Eric Murray, and Antonio Johnson, who was injured on the drive. The 8-play, 73-yard, 4:04 drive was capped by a Christian McCaffrey screen for a touchdown. (Jaguars 17, 49ers 14)

The Jaguars offense punted the ball away on the following series, from midfield. However, after the touchback, Maason Smith tipped a first down Purdy pass attempt, intercepted by Devin Lloyd – his second of the game.

— Fitz (@LaurieFitzptrck) September 28, 2025

Brian Thomas Jr returned to the field on the following series, with Jacksonville just avoiding a turnover as Fred Warner punched the ball away from Travis Hunter after the catch. However, LeQuint Allen was there to recover the fumble, allowing for a 44-yard Cam Little field goal. (Jaguars 20, 49ers 14)

The Jacksonville defense was then bailed out by a 49ers third down drop by Jauan Jennings, as he was wide open running across the Jaguars’ zone. The drop occurred after two run stops early in the drive. However, the Jacksonville offense never took the field, as Parker Washington refused to surrender the ball, instead returning it 87 yards for a punt return touchdown. Jacksonville missed the two-point conversion, however. (Jaguars 26, 49ers 14)

4th Quarter

The 49ers’ following drive moved inside the Jacksonville 30-yard line before Devin Lloyd and the Jacksonville defense stopped San Francisco on a 3rd-and-3 rush. Down by 12, the 49ers opted to go for the touchdown opportunity, passing up on the field goal attempt. However, the fourth down pass attempt fell incomplete, with tight coverage from CB Tyson Campbell. The Jacksonville offense was unable to turn the turnover on downs into points, following up with a three-and-out as Tuten was stopped short on third and 1.

After the Logan Cooke punt fell out of bounds at the San Francisco 8-yard line, McCaffrey had one of his best plays of the day, securing a 29-yard catch and run to move San Francisco to midfield. After a 17-yard catch by Juszczyk, the 49ers caught the Jaguars defense with a timely tight end screen for a 21-yard touchdown. The 8-play, 92-yard, 4:16 drive cut the Jacksonville lead to five points with 7:41 remaining. (Jaguars 26, 49ers 21)

After a 49ers’ penalty on the kick return, the Jaguars’ drive began at their own 44-yard line. Facing a third-and-one, the offensive line, Hunter Long, and the running back assisted Trevor Lawrence in picking up the first down after the initial surge looked to be short.

— Fitz (@LaurieFitzptrck) September 28, 2025

Jacksonville’s following third down attempt was then short of the sticks, forcing a 47-yard Cam Little field goal. Little missed the kick wide right, giving the ball to San Francisco at their 37 with 3:32 and two timeouts. Arik Armstead shut down any hopes of a 49ers comeback, as he forced a sack fumble against his former team, recovered by Foye Oluokun. Jacksonville was able to run out the clock after a Hunter Long first down on third-and-five, with 2:36 remaining. As San Francisco had no timeouts remaining, Jacksonville’s victory was secured with three kneel-downs.

  • Offense: Travis Etienne: 19 carries, 124 yards (6.5 YPC), 1 TD, 1 catch for 1-yard on 2 targets

PFF notables:

The team over at Pro Football Focus noted the following:

  • Parker Washington took over for Brown in both two- and three-receiver sets. This left Hunter running a route on 69.7% of the Jaguars’ pass plays, which was better than the previous two weeks. However, part of this was the Jaguars running fewer pass plays. Hunter has consistently played 37-42 snaps on offense throughout the season. He was targeted on 21.7% of his routes, which was right around his season average. On defense, Hunter only played nine snaps, as Montaric Brown took over as the primary third cornerback in nickel and dime defenses.
  • LeQuint Allen played more offensive snaps than Bhayshul Tuten last week because the Jaguars ran an abnormally high number of plays on third downs or in two-minute drills. Also, Tuten wasn’t 100% healthy. This week, Tuten was back ahead, as the playing time largely resembled their Week 2 snaps.

Notable absences:

The following Jacksonville players did not participate in Sunday’s matchup due to noted injuries throughout the week:

  • WR Dyami Brown (shoulder)
  • OL Wyatt Milum (knee)
  • LB Yasir Abdullah (hamstring)

Healthy Scratches:

  • RB Cody Schrader
  • DT Khalen Saunders Sr.
  • DL Danny Striggow
  • S Kahlef Hailassie

The following players left Sunday’s game due to injury:

  • RT Anton Harrison (elbow)
  • DE Travon Walker (wrist)
  • S Eric Murray (neck)
  • WR Brian Thomas Jr (wrist) – returned

Post-game notables:

1. This Jaguars defense is truly dominant

As coach Coen mentioned in his postgame media availability, Sunday was the Jaguars’ fourth straight game with three turnovers. They entered the week leading the league in turnovers and four on Sunday will likely result in the same entering Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs. This defense held Christian McCaffrey to 2.9 yards per carry, forced four turnovers plus a turnover on downs. They picked up the offense when they needed to reset and allowed the team to win the important points off turnovers category (17-0).

2. Special teams comes through in a big way

Jacksonville’s special teams started off shaky with a punt return downed in the endzone and a kickoff caught while heading out of bounds. However, the return units picked up in a huge way afterwards with Bhayshul Tuten’s 54-yard kick return led to 3 points before halftime and Parker Washington’s 87-yard punt return added another 6. 9 points directly from special teams play in a 5-point win speaks volumes. It wasn’t perfect, with a Ray Lane kick catch interference and a second missed Cam Little field goal among the other notables, but that’s winning special teams play, when points are put on the board.

3. Situational awareness may still need improvement

While the day was less than perfect, it did end in victory. Notably, the Jaguars struggled with third down penalties:

  • Tyson Campbell’s illegal contact
  • 3rd and 1 delay of game (also wasted a timeout following the delay of game)
  • 4th and 1 Walker Little false start, that was also a delay of game
  • 3rd down Robert Hainsey false start

In total, Jacksonville again struggled with penalties, albeit in a winning effort. 12 penalties for 90-yards are tough to overcome. The Jaguars did just that on Sunday. Enjoy your Victory Monday, Duval.

As a note, there will be no Jaguars, 49ers rewatch observations this week due to a conflict. The re-watch series will continue on Tuesday following Monday Night Football.

Jaguars Rookie Report: How Travis Hunter and others impacted Week 4

gettyimages-2237919441.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 3-1 on Sunday after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 26-21. The stars took center stage in this one so the Jags’ 2025 rookie class were quiet, but Travis Hunter did give fans a glimpse of his ability downfield for the first time this season. Let’s break down his performance, as well as touch on the roles of the rest of the newcomers in Week 4.

Travis Hunter

After back-to-back weeks of pretty even splits on offense and defense, Travis Hunter’s role was scaled back a bit as he played almost exclusively at wide receiver on Sunday. He totaled 38 snaps with the offense and just 9 on defense which could have been a result on some early struggles at corner on the Niners first couple of drives.

HC Coen on why Travis Hunter only played WR in 2nd half, via @MiaOBrienTV:

“Personal decision that had to do with a few things we’ll keep in-house for now.”

— Underdog NFL (@UnderdogNFL) September 28, 2025

That said, Hunter did have his second splash play in as many weeks in a huge moment in the second quarter. The rookie ran a post to the middle of the field on 3rd and 15 and Trevor Lawrence fired a fast ball to him. Despite it being a little high, Hunter made a terrific play to pull it in and convert on third. That catch set up the Jaguars’ second (and final) touchdown drive so it was a big momentum boost for the team.

What a catch by Travis Hunter for 28 yards!

JAXvsSF on FOX/FOX Onehttps://t.co/HkKw7uXnxV pic.twitter.com/5uLmQhBQlr

— NFL (@NFL) September 28, 2025

That said, Hunter also nearly had a costly turnover late in the game after Fred Warner punched the ball out after a catch. That would have taken an eventual three points off the board and set the Niners up with an opportunity to win with just a field goal if fellow rookie, Lequint Allen Jr., didn’t hop on the ball.

Overall it was an up and down day for Hunter as the team continues to figure out how to best deploy his skillset.

Bhayshul Tuten

Bhayshul Tuten continues to make splash plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars despite a limited role to this point. While his offensive stat line was pedestrian (5 touches for 22 yards), Tuten gave the team a huge boost with his 54 yard kick return right before the end of the first half (:40 left).

This set up a quick five play drive for the offense to get Cam Little a chip shot field goal to make the lead 17-6 at the break. It was a huge momentum saving play after the Jags had just allowed a quick field goal drive of their own that made it a one score game.

Jack Kiser

Rookie linebacker, Jack Kiser, got his first defensive snaps of the season on Sunday after being primarily used on special teams to this point. Kiser got in the game for 11 snaps and registered two tackles, and while he did have some rookie moments sprinkled in there, it was nice to see Kiser getting some experience with the 1’s in a real game scenario.

A shovel to score 👏

Rayuan Lane

Like Kiser, safety Rayuan Lane got his first burn on defense this season after Eric Murray needed a brief spell. Lane played eight snaps and finished the game without a registered statistic. However, the rookie out of Navy did have a costly penalty on special teams as he was smacked with a kick catch interference violation that allowed the Niners to start their drive on their own 41. They would eventually get a field goal out of it.

Jonah Monheim

Jonah Monheim continues to be solely used on special teams and has not yet gotten any action on offense aside from some kneel down reps back in Week 1. With the way Robert Hainsey is playing at center, it’s unlikely we see Monheim much at all this season.

LeQuint Allen Jr.

Things started pretty rough for LeQuint Allen Jr. on Sunday. After an opening drive field goal by the Niners, Allen received the ensuing kickoff and made a pretty big mental error when he attempted to catch the ball out of bounds to prompt an illegal procedure penalty. Unfortunately, one of his feet was still in bounds which set the Jacksonville offense way back at their own seven yard line and they would end up having to punt it away to open things up.

Allen wouldn’t play much of a factor the rest of the game (1 catch for 7 yards) until late in the fourth quarter when his hustle and instincts to jump on a loose fumble (T. Hunter) late in the third quarter saved a scoring drive (FG made it 26-14).

LeQuint Allen Jr. is a coach's dream.

Not only is he excellent in pass protection, his effort is palpable when you watch the Jags. Watch him hustle after the football is thrown. Because he gave that extra effort, he ends up recovering a Travis Hunter fumble. pic.twitter.com/aYK3aNMtQu

Jaguars Reacts Survey: Who’s been the team’s MVP so far?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Jaguars fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

Jaguars fans — are you confident the team is headed in the right direction?

And who has been the team’s most valuable player?

The obvious choice may be Devin Lloyd. He leads the NFL with 4 takeaways, which ties a franchise record for the most through the first four games of a season. (Rashean Mathis did it in 2006.) Lloyd is also the first Jaguars linebacker to record an interception or fumble recovery in three straight games.

Speaking of former first-round picks who are playing great in a contract year… Travis Etienne has looked incredible behind a much-improved offensive line. He leads the league with 6.1 yards per carry, which is just the sixth such instance in the past 10 years.

Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, Jourdan Lewis, Brenton Strange, and probably a few more names deserve consideration as well.

We’re still waiting to hear about the significance of Walker’s wrist injury from Week 4.

Liam Coen said Monday, “He’s going to see a specialist today. We are in the information gathering process with that, and we’ll know more after he has that appointment to be able to see what his status will be moving forward.”

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared an update that doesn’t inspire much confidence, but hopefully, Walker will be back in no time.

Travis Hunter Shifted To Receiver Against 49ers

gettyimages-2238336469.jpg

Jacksonville Jaguars fans watching Sunday’s 26-21 win over the San Francisco 49ers may have missed something about rookie Travis Hunter during the team’s frenetic win on the road. It was that Hunter didn’t play at all on defense in the second half.

In total, the rookie WR/DB played 38 offensive snaps and just nine defensive snaps (all in the first half) during the team’s trip out west. Both those numbers were teetering on career-lows for the former No. 2 overall pick and represented the first time the two-way player was limited to one side of the ball thus far in his career.

So, what happened?

At this point, it’s hard to tell. After head coach Liam Coen got done with his spat with ‘9ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Coen noted postgame Hunter playing strictly offense in the second half was going to be kept close to the chest.

“It was a personal decision that we were going through,” Coen said Sunday. “It had to do with a few things we will keep in-house.”

Montaric “Buster” Brown returned to the lineup in San Fran which might have contributed to some snaps defensively being taken from Hunter. According to Coen on Monday, that wasn’t necessarily the case.

“I don’t want to say we got impatient, but we’re going through the process,” Coen said Monday. “We’re going to get him right back into it this week. We really wanted to get Buster into the game. That was gonna happen regardless. We have all the confidence in the world in Travis and Buster coming back and Jarrian (Jones) giving us reps. It is great to have those guys all play.”

In his receiver role, Hunter finished third on the team with 42 yards. He caught three of his five targets, with a career-long catch of 28 yards. Hunter’s three catches were his most since the Bengals loss, as were his targets. His overall yardage gave him a new career-best.

Looking at Hunter’s offensive production, the 28-yard catch over the middle represented a pivotal moment in the game for Jacksonville and potentially a turning point moment for Hunter as an NFL receiver.

Coen detailed Hunter was running an alert route based on the coverage over top-middle of the defense. The rookie split his route off and made a full extension to secure the ball while in traffic and while getting hit. With quarterback Trevor Lawrence throwing out of his own end zone on third down, an incompletion here could’ve spelled doom for a game decided by less than a touchdown.

What a catch by Travis Hunter for 28 yards!

JAXvsSF on FOX/FOX Onehttps://t.co/HkKw7uXnxV pic.twitter.com/5uLmQhBQlr

— NFL (@NFL) September 28, 2025

The play isn’t often used in practice, according to both Coen and Hunter, but Lawrence saw his guy and layered the throw to convert. Jacksonville went on to score a touchdown later in the drive.

“Huge moment,” Coen said of the catch. “Climbing the ladder. Unbelievable contested catch. Great throw, because (Lawrence) had to layer it over Fred Warner. That was a big time moment.”

That moment did represent the only big Hunter sighting of the game however. He finished with two tackles and one fumble, recovered by a great effort from LeQuint Allen. Even with Dyami Brown sidelined, Hunter didn’t see much of an increased workload which has drawn plenty of criticism.

While many are lamenting Hunter’s lack of catches, he did do the little things better Sunday.

Lining up as a blocker, plays like the one below were made all day by Hunter. For someone that has had his fair share of troubles getting set and collecting penalties, putting unselfish tape like this out there has to bode well for the young unicorn player.

I love this @Jaguars pic.twitter.com/1jw4aP18LL

— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) September 29, 2025

According to ESPN Insights, Hunter has in total played 58% of the Jags’ offensive snaps compared to 38% on defense. The offense has been the unit in need of more help so it could make sense to insert the rookie more there. Hunter eventually has to be used in some capacity, so maybe four games into his career being a receiver is where his future lies.

Whenever he has been asked – and he has been asked quite a lot – Hunter has just been proud to help his team win, no matter where he plays or how much. Is it possible that’s all he needs to do at this point in his career?

“When my number is called, I just go out there and do my job,” Hunter said in response to local media postgame. “I just do my job. I am excited to do my job.”

The Jags were on an amazing run. The season had taken a turn for the better; they defeated the Tennessee Titans (fuck ‘em) for the AFC South, had the Wildcard comeback against the Chargers, and the vibes were high heading into this game. We thought the team was going to the Super Bowl and going to win that bitch. The Jaguars received the ball first, and the offense went three and out, followed by the Chiefs scoring on their opening drive. Jamal Agnew had a 63-yard return to set the offense up with great field position, which led to a Christian Kirk touchdown to tie the game at the end of the first quarter. The Chiefs put ten points on the board before Riley Patterson made the attempted field goal, bringing the score to 17-10 at the half. The teams traded punts before Harrison Butker scored a field goal, and Lawrence was sacked to wrap up the third quarter. Hope was not yet lost at the start of the fourth. Both teams scored touchdowns, then we had a series of unfortunate events. When the Jaguars were in the red zone again, Agnew fumbled the ball, and Lawrence had a pass intercepted – season over. Trevor Lawrence completed 24 out of 39 attempted passes for 217 yards. Travis Etienne led the team with 62 rushing yards, and Zay Jones led with 83 receiving yards. Jamal Agnew averaged 43.67 yards in kickoff returns and 7.67 yards in punt returns. Logan Cooke punted four times for 191 yards, and Riley Patterson made the two attempted field goals. Foye Oluokun led the team with 14 combined tackles.

The Ugly

Week 1 at EverBank Field on September 8, 2013
Final score: Chiefs 28
– Jaguars 2
Attendance: 59,416

gettyimages-180070299.jpg

I had a hard time choosing between this game and the AFC Divisional Playoff for “the ugly”, but ultimately, this one won out because starting the season without scoring a touchdown, and the only two points scored happened during the first quarter, is just sad. Blaine Gabbert completed 16 out of 35 attempted passes for 121 yards, was intercepted twice, and sacked six times for a loss of 50 yards. Chad Henne completed three out of six attempted passes for 36 yards. Maurice Jones-Drew led the team with 45 rushing yards, and Cecil Shorts led with 40 receiving yards. Bryan Anger punted 11 times for 556 yards for an average of 50.5 yards. Jason Babin recorded the lone sack, and Paul Posluszny led the team with ten solo tackles.

5 Questions with Arrowhead Pride: What we learned about the Chiefs

gettyimages-1686984059.jpg

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images)

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to host the Kansas City Chiefs for Monday Night Football, we sat down with Maurice Elston of Arrowhead Pride to learn more about the opposing side.

Question 1: The Chiefs just scored 37 points for the first time in two years. Is it a sign of things to come, or would it be short-sighted to expect similar results going forward?

It was encouraging to see the offense finally break through with 37 points, but it may be a little premature to expect that kind of production every week. Still, the Chiefs clearly found rhythm on Sunday, showing improved efficiency and balance. That feels like a turning point, even if consistently hitting 30-plus points is difficult in today’s NFL.

Question 2: The Chiefs also had an inspiring defensive performance in Week 4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of that unit?

The biggest strength is Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme and preparation. His ability to disguise looks and get players communicating has made the defense more disciplined each week. The weakness remains generating consistent pressure with just the front four. Without blitzes, the defensive line still struggles at times to collapse the pocket.

Question 3: If you could add a Pro Bowl player at any spot on the roster, where would the Chiefs need it most?

A Pro Bowl-caliber defensive end would be the ideal addition. Pairing an elite edge rusher alongside George Karlaftis and Chris Jones could transform the defense into a dominant, shutdown unit.

Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans should watch for on Monday?

Rookie running back Brashard Smith is a name to watch. He’s earning more touches each week, and his explosiveness makes him a threat to break off big plays whenever the ball is in his hands. If his role continues to grow, he could become a real difference-maker in this matchup.

Question 5: Do you expect the Chiefs to cover as 3-point favorites, and do you like any bets/props for the game?

Yes, I expect Kansas City to cover. A touchdown margin feels realistic given the way they’re trending. For props, I like the Chiefs over 24.5 total points and the Jaguars under 21.5. If the offense stays in rhythm and the defense holds steady, both sides of that bet should hit.

Thanks to Maurice for taking the time to answer our questions!

What are your thoughts on Week 5’s matchup, Jaguars fans? Let us know in the comments!

Jaguars vs Chiefs key matchups: Lloyd to maintain momentum against Mahomes?

gettyimages-2237946617.jpg

Monday Night Football heads to EverBank Stadium as the Jacksonville Jaguars get set to welcome the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here are three key battles to keep an eye on:

Devin Lloyd vs Patrick Mahomes

0 doubt about it.@DevinLloyd_ | #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/Uv4tdk42qP

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) October 2, 2025

What a start to the season Devin Lloyd is enjoying! The fourth-year linebacker appears to have finally been unlocked in Anthony Campanile’s defense, starring in the Jags’ four games this season. This has been recognised by Lloyd being named AFC Defensive Player of the Month, an award that hasn’t been bestowed on a Jaguar for almost twenty years. Robust against the run with 23 tackles so far, Lloyd has been an absolute menace when dropping back into coverage — racking up three interceptions and another three pass breakups. The former Utah Ute has made plays in every aspect of the game, including getting after the quarterback against the Bengals and recovering a fumble against the Houston Texans. This defense is thriving, and Lloyd is a big reason for it.

It’s not often I match up a quarterback with a linebacker, but such is Lloyd’s prowess against the pass that he’s made himself someone for Patrick Mahomes to acknowledge. The Chiefs may have begun 2025 a little sluggish, but they really ramped things up against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. There are still some question marks about their run game which subtly allows them the explosive offense we all know and fear; that means Mahomes will likely be slinging it again. With his favorite target Travis Kelce usually operating in linebacker territory, another big performance from Lloyd could turn this game in the Jags’ favor.

Anton Harrison vs George Karlaftis

"I love the Jaguars offensive line..

They were making BIG TIME plays against the San Francisco 49ers" ~ @aqshipley #PMSLive https://t.co/TxrZrz1bJu pic.twitter.com/9S6H4fN75U

— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) October 1, 2025

Now a month of the season has already been and gone, it’s time to ask the question we’re all scared to suggest; is the Jaguars’ offensive line ACTUALLY good? Without tempting fate, all the answers point to yes; The run game is thriving right now, Trevor Lawrence is on track for the lowest number of sacks in his career, and the linemen are grading out amongst the best in the league. The San Francisco 49ers failed to record a QB hit on Sunday for the first time in a decade. The o-line sits first in sack percentage (2.0%), second in pressure percentage (21.7%), and fourth in yards before contact (1.98). And one of the key performers is right tackle Anton Harrison, who according to PFF is fifth in the NFL in pass-block efficiency.

As good as Harrison has been, he’s up against it on Monday night. George Karlaftis often sits in the shadow of fellow defensive lineman Chris Jones, but he’s as much of an animal – and often benefits from flying under the radar. Already with three sacks in his first four games, Karlaftis has hit the opposing quarterback nine times in the last two games alone. His 23 pressures has him tied for 3rd most in the league in 2025, and Harrison will need to be on his game to help keep Lawrence clean and effective.

Parker Washington vs Chiefs Kickoff/Punt Coverage

#Jaguars Parker Washington has TWO punt return TDs in his last 10 attempts. (24.7 AVG)
pic.twitter.com/CKZwaI6Nlf

— Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis) September 30, 2025

Okay, indulge me a little here. If it seems I’m trying to shoehorn Parker Washington into my weekly article, that’s because I am – did you not SEE that 87-yard punt return on Sunday? In a period of the game where it looked a little uncomfortable and the 49ers were playing their way back in, Washington stepped up and produced some magic to swing the momentum back to Jacksonville. And most impressively was the burst he showed as he came through the wash – I already thought he was at top speed! Washington has history as a punt returner, taking a 96-yarder to the house last year against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium. In big games special teams can be the difference, and this guy has proved himself to be a difference maker.

He’ll be up against one of the best coverage units in the NFL on Monday night. Dave Toub enters his thirteenth season as the Chiefs’ Special Teams Coach, an incredible achievement in itself. During that time they’ve established themselves at or near the top of the league in every statistic you can think of, and are ultra organized – the ‘Mayday’ field goal against the Chargers in Week 1 being the perfect case in point. Currently 3rd with a PFF grade of 85.5, this special teams unit offers Washington a step up in challenge if he wants to deliver another pivotal play in Week 5.

Reacts Survey Results: Jaguars fans select a team MVP through 4 games

This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans who the team’s most valuable player has been through four games.

41% of fans chose Devin Lloyd, and Travis Etienne was the runner-up with 32% of votes.

Jacksonville_2_100125-1.png

Earlier this week, Lloyd was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month. He is the first Jaguars defender to earn the award since Mike Peterson in December 2005.

“It’s awesome, man,” Trevor Lawrence said Thursday. “I’m just proud of him, the way he’s been playing. I mean, we’ve been here together a few years now, and seeing how hard he’s worked and all the things that are put in behind the scenes that people don’t see, and to see all that paying off for him and him just playing with confidence and flying around and making a bunch of plays. There’s nothing better than seeing a guy that deserves it, that is actually going out there and doing it and playing so good.”

Lloyd currently leads the NFL with 4 takeaways (3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery). His 91.0 PFF grade ranks second among linebackers and seventh among all defenders.

“To me, he’s just a true three-down linebacker,” Anthony Campanile said Friday. “He’s able to cover, he’s able to rush, blitz, and he’s able to set the edge early down, play off the ball … And he’s worked so hard, that guy. Just everything that he does fundamentally every day is showing up in the games and he really has done a great job building up a lot of that in his skillset over the course of the last few months.”

As for the confidence survey, 95% of fans are confident in the direction of the team — up from 88% last week.

Jacksonville_1_100125.png

Sheesh!

I wonder if that figure will reach 100% if the Jaguars topple the Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

What’s the biggest question the Jaguars need to answer in Week 5?

imagn-27148179.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars had an impressive 26-21 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, improving to 3-1 on the season.

Jacksonville’s defense led the way, forcing three turnovers, including a game-changing fumble from Arik Armstead late in the fourth quarter. They now have 13 takeaways, which is the most in franchise history through the first four weeks of the season.

Travis Etienne Jr. had another strong day, rushing for 124 yards and a touchdown on 6.5 yards per carry, including a big 48-yard score to open things up for Jacksonville in the first quarter.

Jacksonville took advantage of opportunities, scoring touchdowns on San Francisco’s two early turnovers, while closing out the game after the final fumble.

While it’s been a great start for the Jaguars, one concern remains: the consistency of quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the team’s passing game.

Lawrence threw for 174 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, while completing only 5.6 yards per pass and a couple of turnover-worthy plays that could’ve shifted things entirely.

Lawrence nearly had a back-breaking interception in Jacksonville territory that was wiped out by a controversial pass interference penalty. And there was another pass or two that linebacker Fred Warner got his hands on, but couldn’t corral.

The Jaguars quarterback was more accurate on Sunday, completing 67.7 percent of his passes. But, that came with a measly 6.4 intended air yards per attempt, which was a bottom-10 rank this week, so Lawrence wasn’t really challenging down the field.

Through four games, Lawrence has thrown for 845 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions, while averaging only 5.9 yards per passing attempt. His connection with Brian Thomas Jr. is still growing; the duo had five completions for 49 yards on Saturday, but it remains a work in progress on both sides.

Thomas nearly had a big catch in San Francisco territory, but couldn’t keep a second foot in bounds on a deep out. There seems to be one or two mental mistakes a game for the young wide receiver that need to be figured out.

Overall, Lawrence has a -10.2 percent completion percentage above expectation, which speaks to both errant throws and an ugly drop rate from his receivers.

The arrival of head coach Liam Coen has jump-started Jacksonville’s rushing attack. If they can get more consistency from Lawrence, they could emerge as one of the most complete teams in the NFL this season.

Jaguars vs Chiefs: Staff roundtable and game picks for Week 5

gettyimages-1246428905.jpg

Welcome to Big Cat Country’s staff roundtable!

Today, we’re previewing Week 5’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kansas City Chiefs at EverBank Stadium.

Who have you been most impressed by through the first month of the season?

Dillon Appleman: The perception of Devin Lloyd has completely changed just four games into the 2025 season. After an inconsistent first few years in the league, Lloyd entered a contract year with a lot of question marks surrounding his role and to say he’s answered the bell would be an understatement. His three interceptions lead the league and there is a real argument to be made that he’s been the best linebacker in football this season. If he continues on this trajectory he could go from being on the roster bubble to being in DPOY conversations.

Travis Holmes: For me, the answer is James Gladstone. As someone who’s often been a public fan of Brad Holmes (the Detroit Lions General Manager), seeing someone of a similar ilk in Jacksonville has been a refreshing observation, with multiple players showing obvious development early on in 2025. Are RT Anton Harrison, LB Devin Lloyd, RB Travis Etienne, or S Dewey Wingard playing at the level they are without the significant levels of competition brought in throughout the offseason, while also promoting true and open competition roster-wide? Most of those players haven’t had to fight for their NFL life to these levels before this offseason, and each is showing a major jump in production – partially due to coaching but also due to motivation.

Gus Logue: I’ve been most impressed by the interior offensive line. Though I’ve thought that Ezra Cleveland was slightly underrated since he arrived in Duval County, I was iffy on the additions of Robert Hainsey and Patrick Mekari this offseason. Each of those players rank top-12 among all IOL in ESPN’s pass block win rate, and Cleveland and Hainsey rank top-five in run block win rate. Wasn’t expecting that!

Henry Zimmer: I think Anthony Campanile deserves some praise at this point in the season. Who would have guessed the Jags would be on the sort of turnover tear that they are? The only real improvement is to start turning those pressures into sacks.

What’s a matchup you’re looking forward to watching?

Dillon:
Xavier Worthy vs. Anthony Campanile. The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense looked night and day different when Xavier Worthy was on the field for them this past weekend as his speed completely changes what they can do. They look to get him the football in a ton of different ways, which forces defenses to be disciplined, or else he can turn what looks like a five-yard gain into a 20-yard gain. Coach Camp has done a tremendous job to this point but this is a huge test for his defense on Monday night. He’ll need to have the secondary playing disciplined, complementary football to keep Worthy from having an open runway to showcase his 4.2 speed.

Travis: The matchup of DE Josh Hines-Allen versus Chiefs’ RT (and former Jacksonville Jaguar) Jawaan Taylor, in Duval, on Trevor Lawrence’s birthday, may result in an untenable number of July 2026 babies named Josh. While Hines-Allen normally mans the right side of the line, if Travon Walker is unable to go, he will likely flip sides, facing off against Taylor. With Walker out for the final three quarters against the 49ers, 19.4% of Hines-Allen’s rushes came from the left edge. Get your false start flags warmed up, referees.

Gus: Trevor Lawrence against Steve Spagnuolo. The former has been playing more and more like a game manager as the season has progressed, which has helped the offense to keep the chains moving. But Lawrence has only completed 1 of 9 attempts on throws 20+ yards downfield. Meanwhile, the Chiefs deploy two-high safety structures to limit explosive plays and disguise coverages to confuse opposing quarterbacks. Can Lawrence create explosive plays against Spags?

Henry: I will be excited to see what type of defense Campanile rolls out for Patrick Mahomes. This version of the Chiefs is not the Chiefs of old, but Mahomes is still playing at a good level himself. He only has one pick this year. Hopefully, Camp and Co. can change that.

Who will be the biggest X-factor?

Dillon:
Chris Jones. The Jaguars’ rushing attack has been key to their 3-1 start but they have yet to play against a defense with an elite interior presence like Chris Jones. Even so, the Chiefs have had three straight games where they’ve allowed over 100 yards rushing to their opposition which just makes it even more likely that their emphasis will be on stopping the run on Monday night. If the team can win consistently on first down with the rushing attack, it would go a long way in earning their first win on Monday night since 2011.

Travis: Chiefs’ rookie running back Brashard Smith will be my X-factor for Monday. With the Chiefs’ notably struggling to find a running back spark with Isaiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, they have week by week been increasing Smith’s snap rate with the converted wide receiver turned running back playing 25.7% of snaps in their week four win over Baltimore. As the Jaguars recently surrendered 92 receiving yards to 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, in what was essentially an extension of the run game, I’d expect Smith’s snaps to continue to increase as Kansas City looks to spark production from their RB room in a similar fashion where San Francisco had recent success. Smith had four first-half targets in week four, when the game outcome was still in question against the Giants (9 to 6 at halftime).

Gus: Travis Hunter. I’m extremely interested to see what his usage on both sides of the ball looks like after he only played one quarter of defense in Week 4. Given his lack of playmaking so far this season, maybe the team is thinking about having him stick to one position in the short term. Jacksonville could really use him on offense and defense on Monday night, though, as they need more big plays from their receivers and cornerbacks alike.

Henry: Chris Jones is my pick for X-Factor of the week. His matchup with the front five for Jacksonville could dictate how this game goes. If Jones and someone like George Karlaftis can disrupt the run game or the O-Line overall, that makes an already anemic Jags offense even more one-dimensional.

Final score prediction?

Dillon:
Jaguars 16, Chiefs 24

Travis: Jaguars 24, Chiefs 17

Gus: Jaguars 17, Chiefs 23

Henry: Jaguars 17, Chiefs 24

Jaguars soar in NFL power rankings entering Week 5

gettyimages-2237946617.jpg

As Week 5 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally.

The Athletic: 7 (last week: 16)

From Josh Kendall and Chad Graff:

As promised, the Jaguars have tried a little bit of everything with the second pick. [Travis Hunter] has played 250 snaps so far, according to TruMedia, 152 on offense, 95 on defense and three on special teams. On Sunday, he concentrated on offense, playing 38 snaps there against only nine on defense, and had three catches for 42 yards, including a career-long 28-yarder. He is the team’s second-leading receiver with 13 catches for 118 yards and has 11 tackles on defense.

Yahoo Sports: 12 (16)

From Frank Schwab:

There is room to grow for the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence is not playing well. Brian Thomas Jr. has just 164 yards. They’re still figuring out how to use Travis Hunter. And still, Jacksonville is 3-1 after a nice win at San Francisco and the Jags are tied for first in the AFC South. A big home game vs. Kansas City awaits.

CBS Sports: 12 (17)

From Pete Prisco:

At 3-1, they are one of the surprise teams in the league, led by a defense with 13 takeaways. But here come the Chiefs on Monday night for a big one.

Pro Football Talk: 12 (18)

From Mike Florio:

Winning ugly is still winning.

NFL.com: 13 (17)

From Eric Edholm:

That was a gutsy, hard-fought road win over the 49ers, with the Jaguars’ defense amazingly turning in their fourth straight game with three or more turnovers forced. And they needed every single one of them, along with Parker Washington ’s punt-return TD, to pull off the 26-21 victory. That’s now 13 takeaways on the season, and several of them have come at critical times. The question is whether Jacksonville can maintain this absurd pace. The obvious answer is no, and the defensive injuries are starting to add up. The Jags can’t afford to lose Travon Walker (wrist) for an extended period of time and hope for the defense to be this impactful going forward. The offense has given the team some early juice, but Jacksonville’s likely to need even more from that unit.

Bleacher Report: 13 (19)

From Brent Sobleski:

With Sunday’s victory over the 49ers, they are 3-1 and tied with the Indianapolis Colts atop the AFC South. It’s only the second time Jacksonville started 3-1 since the 2008 campaign. Plenty of room for improvement still exists, too, specifically how the offense utilizes its weapons at wide receiver. As soon as Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter become more consistent, Trevor Lawrence and Co. can become truly dangerous.

USA Today: 14 (17)

From Nate Davis:

Their 13 takeaways − including at least three in every game − are already four more than they had all of last season. The Jags are the sixth team since 2000 to record multiple interceptions in each of a season’s first four games.

ESPN: 14 (18)

From Mike DiRocco:

The Jaguars lead the NFL in called (30) and accepted (23) offensive penalties. That includes 10 holding penalties, second most in the league behind Tampa Bay (12), and seven false starts. That’s keeping Liam Coen’s offense from getting into rhythm and plays a large part in the Jaguars converting only 35.2% of their third downs (25th in the league).

Fox Sports: 14 (19)

From Ralph Vacchiano:

The Jaguars defense forced the 49ers offense to commit four turnovers. Maybe Robert Saleh is right about Jags coach Liam Coen stealing signs. Whatever Jacksonville did, though, worked on Sunday and the Jags are now surprisingly 3-1.

The Ringer: 14 (22)

From Diante Lee:

Since Lawrence’s accuracy issues became more pronounced a couple of seasons ago, it’s been clear that he needs an offensive system that doesn’t need him to play like a star. Jacksonville seems to be crafting exactly that in 2025 by giving him the most reliable rushing attack he’s ever had.

We should expect that Lawrence is still going to miss throws and come apart when he’s pressured, but we’re seeing him have a positive impact on his team now that the offensive infrastructure is more stable.

Sports Illustrated: 16 (20)

From Conor Orr:

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Travis Etienne look like this in the NFL. If Liam Cohen doesn’t get Travis Hunter going for a little while, and Brian Thomas plateaus in Year 2, but the Jaguars become a consistent run threat that buoys Trevor Lawrence perpetually, isn’t that a massive win?

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs are set to square off in Week 5 of the 2025 season.

“Great opportunity for us to truly go get better as a team, go put our best stuff on tape,” coach Liam Coen said of the primetime matchup on Thursday. “They obviously put this game on the schedule for a reason, we’ve earned the opportunity, but yeah, it’s one of those that you got to go take it. Like, nothing’s going to be given to us. Appreciate the way our guys have played up until this point and excited about seeing what Monday night looks like.”

Key Jaguars Player Ruled Out Against Chiefs for Monday Night Football

gettyimages-2234748698.jpg

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without one of their most valuable players against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

Edge defender Travon Walker is inactive for the Week 5 primetime matchup. He injured his wrist early in the second quarter of last week’s win, when he collided with safety Eric Murray to bring Christian McCaffrey to the ground. The former No. 1 overall pick had surgery on Monday and is considered day-to-day moving forward.

“Guys know they may have to step up,” coach Liam Coen said Saturday. “There are multiple guys who have played in those opportunities within the flow of games. A guy like Dennis Gardeck continues to play better as well. [Emmanuel] Ogbah, [Dawuane] Smoot, those guys have all done a nice job. B.J. Green got going a little bit last week, so it’ll be a little bit by committee, but I have a lot of faith in those guys up front.”

LB Yasir Abdullah (hamstring) and OL Wyatt Milum (knee) are also out for Jacksonville tonight. DL Danny Striggow and DT Khalen Saunders Sr. are healthy scratches.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1) will face the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Oct. 12, at EverBank Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 1.5-point favorites and the total is set at 46.5 points.

Jacksonville is fresh off a dramatic primetime win over Kansas City. “It wasn’t perfect by any means,” coach Liam Coen said postgame, “but the resiliency is really what I think this team has and has continued to show. There was really no flinch or blink when you’re down 14-0 … I thought all three phases really impacted the game. A ton of stuff to correct, but the toughness and resiliency is really something I’m proud of.”

“Huge win for us, especially with the one-score game thing. That team has historically won the majority of their one-score games. Something that obviously was a struggle for this team last year, and proud of the guys.”

The Jags are 4-1 for just the first time since 2007. Meanwhile, the Hawks are off to a 3-2 start and rank fourth in the NFL in point differential (+41) behind impressive play from Sam Darnold and perhaps the league’s best defense. Coen has yet another big test in front of him.

Jaguars Place TE Brenton Strange on IR

gettyimages-2239322046.jpg

In the aftermath of Monday night’s incredible, come-from-behind victory over the reigning AFC Champion Chiefs, news of standout third-year tight end Brenton Strange’s in-game injury, potentially keeping him out for a bit, lingered.

On Tuesday, the Jaguars confirmed those fears, officially placing the dominant blocker and team-leading receiver on Injured Reserve with a hip/quad injury.

Source says Brenton Strange expected to miss about a month with a quad injury so not a season-ending injury for the #Jaguars’ tight end. https://t.co/HPNugmt4XK

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) October 7, 2025

Per Ryan O’Halloran, Strange struggled to even get out of his locker room chair late Monday night following the game, with Cameron Wolfe reporting that Strange wasn’t optimistic about his injury status Monday night.

Entering Week 5, Strange was Jacksonville’s receiving leader in catches and second in receiving yards. He left the week 5 matchup after a non-contact injury with what was reported as a hip injury, after running a second-quarter route. Strange has 20 catches for 204 yards on the year, averaging 10.2 yards per reception, and will now be out for the next four games. A player on the Injured Reserve (IR) list must miss a minimum of four games (not four weeks) before they become eligible to return to the active roster. Jacksonville will face the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams (London), Las Vegas Raiders (in Vegas), and the Texans (in Houston). Brenton would be able to return as early as the team’s week 11, Nov. 16th, Los Angeles Chargers home matchup.

Strange’s presence in the run game will be most missed, as he was quickly becoming known around the league as one of the best all-around tight end prospects, with recent league-wide attention on his physical blocking.

— Breiden Fehoko (@BreidenFehoko) September 8, 2025

Entering the season, the tight end depth was widely considered one of the team’s biggest question marks after the team moved on from Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram. However, Brenton’s early-season play quickly shored up those concerns. Free agents Hunter Long, Johnny Mundt, and Quinton Morris will all have an opportunity to step up during Strange’s absence. After Strange’s second-quarter exit, Long and Mundt combined for two catches on two targets for 10 yards.

The team also announced a reunion, welcoming back receiver and special teams ace Tim Jones, signing him to the practice squad while also releasing WR Erik Ezukanma from the practice squad. Per the team release:

“Jones played his first four seasons in the NFL with Jacksonville after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2021. After spending his rookie year on practice squad, Jones played in every game for the Jaguars from 2022-24, appearing in 51 games and making three starts. He totaled 17 receptions for 154 yards as well as six tackles and a fumble recovery on special teams during his first stint in Jacksonville. Jones joined the Vikings this offseason and played two games before being waived.”

The team had a new quarterback, a new head coach, and hope. Unfortunately, that coach was Urban Meyer, and the 2021 season was a mess. This game created a new version of Halloween frights, as the Jags looked woefully unprepared and narrowly avoided a shutout. Trevor Lawrence’s nine-yard pass to Jamal Agnew during the fourth quarter was the only touchdown scored. Lawrence completed 32 out of 54 attempted passes for 238 yards and was intercepted once. Carlos Hyde led the team with 32 rushing yards, and Dan Arnold led with 68 receiving yards. Josh Hines-Allen recorded two sacks for a total of 24 lost yards. Travis Hunter Has Best Game As Pro Against Chiefs

gettyimages-2239660406.jpg

There is a real argument to be made that without Travis Hunter, the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

In Monday’s 31-28 thriller win over the visiting Chiefs, rookie WR/CB Hunter might have had his best game as a pro. After being somewhat relegated to just a receiver against the San Francisco 49ers, Hunter turned it on in primetime. Based on Pro Football Focus’ rankings, Hunter earned a 77.3 grade as a receiver and a 76.9 grade as a corner with his grades placing him as a top-10 rookie on both sides, unsurprisingly a first for PFF.

Hunter’s snap count is always a subject of discussion but his numbers were above his recent average. On offense, Hunter played 39 snaps while as a corner he played 25. Last week against the ‘9ers he played 38 offensive snaps to just nine defensive ones.

Making an impact on both sides of the ball, it was Hunter’s offensive day that stole the show.

Everyone has now seen Hunter’s circus catch over two defenders, a career-high 44 snag that led to a touchdown to start the third quarter for Jacksonville. But how he managed to come down with that ball is still dazzling to see.

“We just work hard on that play in practice,” Hunter said postgame of his route. “I did that route probably like 10 (to) 13 extra times just to get the timing right. We did what we had to do.”

The rookie finished with 64 yards receiving overall, also a new career-high. In back to back weeks, Hunter has reset his career high in receiving. Dating back three weeks ago, Hunter has caught new career long balls for 21 yards, 28 yards and then 44.

Hunter may not have had the coaching confidence on defense during the trip out west, but he certainly had the coaching confidence in him as a receiver Monday. During quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s now famous Trip Six, Hunter was the motion man with the game literally on the line.

Defensively, Hunter had an almost equal impact though it may not show as much on the stat sheet. During his 25 snaps, Hunter allowed one catch on 19 coverage snaps to go along with a pair of tackles. He also made a great play on third down to break up a ball on Travis Kelce. Both Kelce brothers even lauded the effort from Hunter in recent weeks on the pair’s podcast.

On Thursday, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile had nothing but praise for his young superstar.

“I thought he competed really, really hard on both sides of the ball,” Campanile said. “I think it was a tremendous effort. He gave us some great snaps on defense. And making some huge plays on offense. That is what he envisioned for him. I think he is right on course.”

Wednesday night, the Jags made a somewhat surprise in-season move to trade away starting corner Tyson Campbell for Cleveland’s starting corner Greg Newson. The departure of Campbell for Newsome could spell more minutes for Hunter on defense, especially for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with Newsome coming in on an incredibly short week. Beyond that, Jacksonville could get a bit crazy and shift Jourdan Lewis to full-time nickel corner like he was playing last year for the Dallas Cowboys and have Hunter and Newsome play the boundary full time.

Whatever comes next, the team’s DC seems confident Hunter can hack it.

“Each game is different but he is getting progressively better,” Campanile said. “We are super excited about him. I think everybody can see that.”

Hunter’s best game of his rookie season came when the Jags needed it the most, when the world was watching and the lights were at full blast. That has to leave a good feeling in every Jags fan moving forward especially given the struggles Hunter had prior to Monday. It’s no secret Seattle will deploy a heavy pass offense, one that will almost certainly require Hunter to play meaningful snaps on defense.

Before that game begins however, we will always have Hunter’s big Monday Night. Hopefully the first of many primetime games for Hunter and his team.

“It was packed,” Hunter said with his signature smile Sunday. “It was my first Monday Night game. I was excited for the whole city to come out. All the fans came out to show us support through the win.”

Jacksonville Jaguars Winners and Losers from Week 5: Cardiac Cats Come All The Way Back

The Jacksonville Jaguars refuse to play a normal football game this year. And it’s spectacular.

On Monday Night Football, in front of the entire NFL landscape, the Jags did what just about nobody outside of Duval County thought they would do: defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28. It was by no means pretty. It was by no means a clean game. It was certainly lucky. But that’s what happens sometimes. You need a little bit of luck. The football gods bestowed that on us Monday night.

That game represents a seminal moment in Jacksonville history. These are the type of games teams must win to break through from the lower echelon of football teams the Jags have found themselves in for years. That environment is the type of thing teams need to earn respect.

All of that was done Monday night. And my ears are still ringing.

WINNERS

Jacksonville

What a night that was, man.

I wasn’t at the Chargers playoff game but I can only imagine that environment rivaled it. EverBank Stadium was rocking for hours and it actually ended in our favor. Not too often does that happen.

Clearly the Jags have hit on this new coaching staff and on General Manager James Gladstone. Who knew a geeky GM, a head coach who was in college football in 2023 and a scary Italian could team up to do wonders like this. It won’t be long before this unit is considered the best coaching staff this team has seen since its inception. There is still a long way to go to get there, but it seems we are on the right track.

I wrote at length after the Cincinnati collapse that the future was bleak. I was very doom and gloom after that. It seemed like the franchise had fallen under the same spell it has for years where things were just going to go from bad to worse. These dudes proved me wrong.

Plenty is still broken about this team, sure, but it doesn’t feel out of control. The penalties will end eventually. Lawrence seems like he is (deep breath) on the verge of breaking through. The direction is actually there.

The players on this team want to play for Coen. They want to play for each other. The free agents, like Jourdan Lewis, have acted as if they have been here for years. This is what real NFL teams do and feel like.

Beating the Chiefs one time probably doesn’t deserve this level of speak. But it sure was exciting and fun to witness, especially considering just a few weeks ago we were letting the now-benched Jake Browning tear us apart.

These moments didn’t used to happen. Now here we are. It sure is exciting.

Travis Hunter

For the first time in his short NFL career, Travis Hunter broke through and did the things he was drafted to do. He made the sort of circus plays he did in college and on the national stage, trading that first round pick didn’t seem so bad.

Hunter finished Monday night with a career-high 64 yards receiving, two tackles and a pass breakup. He was nominated for Rookie of the Week for his efforts.

That game was Hunter’s breakout moment. He was benched on defense just last week but Monday was called upon to win the game. Lawrence went his way when the lights were brightest. Hunter delivered.

Cleveland can keep that pick. We might just have our guy after all.

Trevor Lawrence While Playing Down

Hey so what the hell goes through this guy’s mind sometimes?

The Supreme Leader of Chaos, Lawrence was back to his old ways again last night in the first half, helping dig his team into a 14-0 hole. The interception was hardly his fault but it goes down as his fault all the same.

I was ready to give up on the dude. A collapse like that on MNF? In front of the world? It just all seemed so Jacksonville.

Then, the weird voodoo magic of Monday came out and Lawrence locked in.

While trailing, Lawrence went for over 250 passing yards and three total touchdowns including the game-winner on his legs. If you remember back in his Clemson days, Lawrence used to be a good scrambler. It was part of their offense. He unlocked that part of himself against the Chiefs.

Per @NextGenStats, Trevor Lawrence tied a career high 10 rushes, 54 yards and two TDs.

He also set a new career high in scrambles. pic.twitter.com/PV58xZuCBZ

Lawrence should have ran more than he did probably throughout the night but he made it work nonetheless. His passes to Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown on the final drive were the stuff you dream of playing in your backyard. He played like the one who was promised down the stretch.

Oddly enough Lawrence has a long track record of playing, and winning, games on his birthday. He did so this week.

There is still conversation to be had that he is not playing great but he is certainly getting better. Obviously the Jags need the Lawrence he showed while losing the rest of the season. Hopefully that doesn’t mean anymore 14-0 holes however.

Anthony Campanile

I legitimately don’t think there has been a coach who has been on a heater quite like the one Anthony Campanile is on.

Despite the Jags losing the turnover battle Monday and only forcing one interception, the defense played really well. It was how that defense forced the interception too which showed the coaching chops of Camp.

We have all seen Devin Lloyd’s pick-six but him dropping into that simulated passing lane was something Mahomes didn’t even see coming. The Jags actually telegraphed a pick and it changed that game forever.

The defensive line is not good without Travon Walker. No sacks is a scary sight. But they did what they could with the line and at least generated some good pressure.

Foye Oluokun played great. Josh Hines-Allen came up big. Eric Murray is a dog. Rayuan Lane and Hunter even played decent roles. This defense is not the most talented in the NFL by any means but they are being coached like they are the ‘85 Bears. Almost makes you forget last year’s unit. Almost.

Oh ho ho! Very cool!

"Honestly, they got me with the coverage they played…they hadn't shown the poppers with the linebackers popping out…I saw the look and checked the play with the in routes, but credit to them, they schemed themselves." https://t.co/PsqdU9Dgxp pic.twitter.com/LA7wxP0v6J

LeQuint Allen

Short bit here but is LeQuint Allen playing really good football???

Allen is a dude who is not going to stuff the statsheet. At least not yet. However, this guy seemingly loves to blast a pass rusher in the gap any chance he can get. Gladstone has some huge hits in his first draft class, and quietly, Allen may be the best one. Bhayshul Tuten is going to overshadow Allen because of how well he is playing too, but Allen deserves his credit.

Without Allen coming up and blocking for Lawrence, we may not have gotten the ending we saw. The little things matter and I am sure Allen is hearing about it in practice.

Ashley Coen

Shoutout to Ashley Coen for supplying teachers and first responders with tickets to Monday’s game. My mom actually won a pair through her students from emailing in and nominating her. By winning the tickets, my mom and I got to go. I would not have gone had we not won the pair.

My favorite Jacksonville Jaguars’ memory from a game came because of our first-year coach’s wife wanting to do something awesome for the community.

Ashley Coen wanted deserving people in those seats Monday night, cheering their asses off because they work hard as hell. What a cool experience. Thank you to the Coen family from me and all the other folks who got to witness that event. What a special night.

Al’s Pizza

The bit continues. Despite not hitting the two-interception mark for the first time all season – which still feels unreal to say – fans can still use the online code “JAGSWIN” for 25% off through Wednesday. The Al’s Pizza folks called me by the way. We are linking up for something. Stay tuned.

LOSERS

Injuries, Yet Again

I almost didn’t even want to include a losers list this week. But this one is getting to concerning levels.

Tuesday afternoon Brenton Strange was placed on injured reserve with a non-season-ending hip injury suffered during the game. He came up basically limping after a play where he wasn’t contacted and that’s never a great sign.

Strange has been a revelation this year and there isn’t a clear, great option to replace him. He isn’t alone, however, as it seems every week there is a new offensive lineman getting hurt and a new guy getting shuffled in. Shoutout to Jonah Monheim for playing some absolutely huge minutes last night, but he isn’t supposed to be playing.

Walker’s injury is a huge one and the Jags will need him back on the field for Sunday, likely wearing a club.

Hunter got banged up a little Monday, Oluokun is playing through some stuff and basically everyone on the offensive line is hurt. It’s not time to panic, but this is something that is growing ever more concerning.

No injury update on Robert Hainsey, but Liam Coen on rookie C Jonah Monheim:

"You should've saw on BTJ completion down the right sideline, he had Chris Jones 1-on-1. Holding his own, LeQuint Allen came in and chipped through… everybody's got a lot of confidence in Jonah. He's…
