The Carolina Hurricanes finished up their long road trip with a 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday night in Dallas.

The loss gives Carolina a 6-2-0 record for the season.

The Canes, who have been decimated by injuries, put up a valiant fight but ended up with a loss to the highly rated Dallas squad.

Jackson Blake got things started for Carolina after making a nice move and better shot. It was his second goal of the season.

Sebastian Aho made it 2-0 on a blast with just 11 seconds left in the first. Aho now has a point in each game this season and is riding an eight game point streak.

The second period went the home team’s way when they scored a goal off a deflection by a Carolina player, then scored during a powerplay chance later in the period.

The Stars would score the eventual game-winner on another Carolina deflection during a powerplay when Taylor Hall was called for charging, which eliminated the Canes’ powerplay.

Once again, the Canes could do nothing with the man advantage. They went 0-3 for the night.

Coach Rod Brind’Amour finally seems to recognize that this could be a problem.

“We obviously have to score on the power play at some point because it’s putting too much stress on the penalty kill.

I guess that is a good enough reason to improve the powerplay, because it is hurting the penalty kill. The Hurricanes are scoring at a 6.9% clip, tied for last in the league.

Bradly Nadeau made his season debut and hit the crossbar during a powerplay chance.

Brandon Bussi was in net and made 31 saves off 34 shots.

Alexander Nikishin played over 22 minutes, good for second most on the team. Sean Walker played over 25 minutes.

The Hurricanes will take a day off as they return home and will prepare for their next game against Vegas on Tuesday night.
