Ja Morant previews Grizzlies-Thunder Round 1 series

Moments after the Memphis Grizzlies survived and advanced in a play-in tournament win over the Dallas Mavericks, Ja Morant had little time to celebrate his season-saving performance. Morant quickly pivoted to his focus on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The eighth-seeded Grizzlies will enter as heavy underdogs against the first-seeded Thunder. Before he even got to the locker room, ESPN asked his thoughts on their Round 1 matchup.

3 Oklahoma City Thunder bold predictions for Grizzlies series in 2025 NBA Playoffs

For a team that won 68 games in the regular season, the 2024-25 Oklahoma City Thunder sure have more doubters than one would expect. Many think that the Thunder may trip up in the earlier rounds the way they did last year, but they seemed to have shut that kind of talk down really quickly after demolishing the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of their 2025 NBA playoffs first-round matchup, 131-80, in a game that OKC led by as many as 56 points. This Thunder squad is brilliant, complete on both ends with weapons who have bought in completely into the system head coach Mark Daigneault has in place. There is no coincidence that this team won 68 games, and many are going to learn the hard way just how difficult it will be to knock out the Thunder in a seven-game series.

Former No. 2 pick reacts to Grizzlies' playoff debut after bouncing around NBA

The Memphis Grizzlies will not be caught off guard by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in an NBA Playoffs Game 2 tilt. At least, that is what Scotty Pippen Jr. stated after the Grizzlies took a historically bad loss on the chin Easter Sunday. Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Zach Edey talked about the physicality after a Game 1 blowout where almost everyone seemed sleepy-eyed.

Gilgeous-Alexander scores 27 as the Thunder roll past Grizzlies 118-99 to take 2-0 series lead

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 27 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Memphis Grizzlies 118-99 on Tuesday night to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. Oklahoma City delivered a strong follow-up to its record-setting 131-80 win on Sunday in the series opener.

Grizzlies news: Ja Morant scores major legal win before Game 3 vs. Thunder

On April 21, a Shelby County Circuit Court judge dismissed a lawsuit against Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, ruling that he cannot be sued by the teenager he struck during a pickup basketball game at his Eads residence. The decision was confirmed by one of Morant's legal representatives. Judge Carol Chumney, who has overseen the case since it was filed in September 2022, ruled in April 2024 that Ja Morant could invoke self-defense. Judge Chumney dismissed the lawsuit on Monday, ruling that Ja Morant defended himself and qualified for civil immunity.

Grizzlies Executive's Blunt Message After Thunder Series Loss

The Memphis Grizzlies might've entered the All-Star break as the second seed in the Western Conference, but their season ended in a far different situation. After winning the last play-in game, they matched themselves up against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a matchup where they were the clear underdog from the jump, as seen by their 51-point loss in Game 1. It remained at a similar level of dominance throughout the series, with the Grizzlies' season officially coming to a close on Saturday. While there are arguments that the series could've gone differently had Taylor Jenkins not been fired earlier in the year, Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman kept it blunt with his message in the end-of-season interviews.

Grizzlies GM calls out 'wild' Zach Edey discourse after rookie season

Zach Edey entered the 2024 NBA Draft as one of the most divisive prospects in recent memory. With the modern NBA trending more towards speed and skilled size, Edey's game appeared to be a relic of an older period. Edey, who stands at 7'4″ and is listed at 305 lbs., is not the fleetest of foot and could be exposed by modern NBA offenses. Not much has changed regarding many fans and analysts' evaluation of Edey.

Wizards offseason Ja Morant trade proposal after Grizzlies eliminated

The Washington Wizards only won 18 games during the 2024-25 season. While the college basketball national player of the year is generational, he will still need more help in turning the Wizards' franchise around if they draft Flagg, so Washington should also pursue a trade for Ja Morant. After looking like the future face of the NBA earlier in his career, Morant's last two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies have been disastrous.

Grizzlies rumors: Ja Morant trade 'whispering, rumbling' going around NBA

An embarrassing sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies has led the franchise to explore all options. After Ja Morant was injured for the Grizzlies' Game 4, the team looked fine without him. “When I'm talking to people around the league, GMs, execs, scouts, I don't have people telling me that they think Ja is a top-10 player when he's healthy anymore,” ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported on Monday's episode of Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective. This is an interesting statement, considering how dynamic Morant is.

Sources: Ja Morant's Grizzlies linked to trades for All-Star big men

After a first-round playoff sweep by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Memphis Grizzlies face a bombshell-filled offseason with Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. EVP Zach Kleiman must seize the opportunity to transform the team into a championship contender by trading for a bit more help, even if it means parting ways with Desmond Bane ($36.7m). It's as much an open secret as Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns) being available. Sources also tell ClutchPoints Lauri Markkanen and Domantas Sabonis are in the mix to join Memphis this summer.

Warriors' Draymond Green makes reference to 2022 Grizzlies debacle after Game 5 loss to Rockets

The Golden State Warriors were not able to close out their series against the Houston Rockets on the road, losing 131-116. It was a game where the Warriors could not find a groove at all until the bench came in toward the latter part of the second half and made a comeback, but it still wasn't enough. The Rockets were rocking all night, and with everything clicking for them, some would think that they had the advantage in the series despite being down 3-2. Draymond Green seems like he felt that vibe in the arena, and he referenced the Warriors series against the Memphis Grizzlies in 2022.
