The Linc - In-season Hard Knocks is coming to the NFC East

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Eagles, NFC East to appear on Hard Knocks - PE.com
The Eagles will be in prime time even when there isn’t a game at Lincoln Financial Field. HBO and NFL Films announced on Wednesday that the NFC East will be the featured subject for the second iteration of the in-season division format of Hard Knocks, which debuted in 2024 with a focus on the AFC North. The series will kick off in December and be available to stream on HBO Max. Hard Knocks will also document the Training Camp journey of the Buffalo Bills this summer. “We are thrilled to provide ‘Hard Knocks’ fans a summer with the Bills and winter with the Cowboys, Giants, Commanders and Eagles in the first year of our exciting new deal with NFL Films,” said Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller, co-executive vice presidents HBO Documentary and Family Programming, and Bentley Weiner, senior vice president HBO Sports Documentaries. “There will be no shortage of star power.”

Ranking the NFL divisions by strength heading into 2025 - PFF
5. NFC EAST: EAGLES, COMMANDERS, COWBOYS, GIANTS. Cumulative over/under win total: 34. The NFC East sent both representatives to the NFC championship game last January, but those two teams — the Eagles and Commanders — are carrying most of the weight for the division as a whole. Philadelphia lost key talent in free agency, but reloaded effectively enough to remain one of the favorites to return to the Super Bowl in 2025. Washington, meanwhile, struck gold with Jayden Daniels, who earned PFF’s Rookie of the Year honors. The offense looks promising, but the defense must improve after ranking 29th in team grade (60.0), including a 54.2 run-defense grade and just 258 total pressures (21st). Upgrades in the front seven are a step in the right direction. The Cowboys were derailed by injuries at quarterback last season, and while the arrival of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach brings some uncertainty, they still have the talent to be competitive — especially if the run defense, which graded out at a league-worst 49.3 in 2024, can bounce back. As for the Giants, their quarterback situation remains unresolved, with three players currently in contention for the starting role. The offensive line hasn’t seen meaningful improvement, which raises concerns regardless of who starts under center. However, the additions of Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland should help bolster a secondary that ranked 26th in coverage grade (52.5) last season.

Schedule Talk and Hard Knocks | NFC East Mixtape Vol. 165 - BGN YouTube
Since the NFC East Mixtape last convened the 2025 NFL schedule came out and we obviously have a lot of thoughts on what is going on with it, especially the opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Also... there is going to be an NFC East Hard Knocks! RJ Ochoa and Brandon Gowton are here to discuss it all.

The Tush Push lives! Eagles rejoice while Packers totally embarrass themselves as crybaby losers - BGN
THE TUSH PUSH LIVES! It turns out that the NFL will NOT be banning the Philadelphia Eagles’ favorite short yardage play that was widely expected to be outlawed entering Wednesday’s league meetings in Minnesota. The Green Bay Packers’ original proposal to ban the play in early April wasn’t successful and was instead tabled for May. The Packers came back with a revised proposal that gained more support than their first attempt did ... but still fell two votes short of needing 24 owners to approve the legislation.

Long live the tush push! The controversial play’s top moments - ESPN
BILL SNYDER DOESN’T understand what all the fuss is about. The legendary Kansas State coach, 85 years old and retired from coaching, can’t remember exactly what the Wildcats called the play because it was just an add-on to a sneak. He didn’t — and still doesn’t — think it was very innovative or creative. “It was just a natural thing to do,” he told ESPN of the play that would become known as the “tush push” and eventually inspire a raging NFL-wide debate. “We need to create a way in which we could take the shortest distance to get the short distance we needed to go and not get held up, because everybody put all the people over there, so we wanted to compete against no matter how many people you put there. We wanted to be strong enough not to get held up at the line of scrimmage. And we would bring one or two, or on occasion, three backs up right off of the hip of the center, and on the snap of the ball, we would push the center or push the back of the quarterback.”

The Tush Push Is Forever - The Ringer
When Philadelphia opens the season at home against the Cowboys, the first time Saquon Barkley puts his hands on Jalen Hurts’s backside and the quarterback burrows his way to a fourth-down conversion, the home crowd will go absolutely feral. Head coach Nick Sirianni might do a Lambeau Leap of his own if the Eagles score a touchdown on a tush push when Philadelphia travels to Green Bay for Monday Night Football on Nov. 10. This era of Eagles football is immortalized now, even if the team never returns to the heights it enjoyed over the past three seasons. The tush push is forever, and the league doesn’t want to line up to compete against it anymore.

It Lives - Iggles Blitz
Wow. Lurie got fired up about this and really fought for his team. That’s good to hear. Owners don’t often get a chance to make a difference. The opportunity came Lurie’s way and he took advantage of it. I’m sure the league will try to ban it again next year. That’s fine. Maybe they’ll have enough support to finally make it happen. Or maybe defenses will find a way to slow it down this season and other teams won’t care as much. I do think the ban would have been a bad look for the league if it went through this year. The Eagles just won the Super Bowl. If one of their best plays got banned, it would make the league and the other teams look petty. Now there will be another season of information, good or bad. If another year goes by and there aren’t injuries, that will help the case for the play sticking around.

The Tush Push lives for Eagles: 8 notes & thoughts, from Jeffrey Lurie’s message to key behind-the-scenes figures (including Jason Kelce) - PHLY
Lurie closed the speech by saying if the Eagles leave the meeting and the play is banned, they’d still feel like winners — with a Lombardi Trophy to show for it — knowing that a play that they created and refined needed to be banned because opponents had no other way of stopping it. There was also a sentiment that the Eagles would be successful regardless, but they wanted to fight for the principle of the play. If a quarterback has a unique delivery that’s effective, the league does not ban that delivery. The Eagles felt it was easier to try to ban a play than a player, and they were spirited and detailed in their defense. It was either persuasive enough or the league sentiment against the play was miscalculated. Either way, the Eagles flew home with a different result than they expected Wednesday morning — and a key offseason victory.

How is Jalen Hurts adjusting to yet another new OC? - NBCSP
It doesn’t sound like there are that many wholesale changes coming in 2025 as the Eagles prepare to defend their Super Bowl title. “There’s some nuances that are different,” Hurts said on Tuesday. “I know in the past, I gave a number on that matter. But things evolve and things change as time goes on. We’re just really bought into that. That’s an important thing. That’s something that I’ve learned as well, that you have to be able to evolve as time goes on. Given Coach Kevin Patullo and his new role now and him being the one in charge of offensive leadership, you get new pieces and new ideas that come from everyone.”

Reviewing the NFL’s rule changes, and how they might impact the Eagles - PhillyVoice
In an effort to encourage more kick returns last season, the NFL adopted an entirely new look for kickoffs, including a starting spot at the 30 yard line after touchbacks. And yet, not a lot changed, as most teams simply booted the ball through the end zone anyway. That will probably change in 2025, as teams will be less likely to concede their opponents’ starting position at the 35. So, you know, expect to see more kick returns going forward. How does this affect the Eagles? If there was one area where the Eagles were shaky in 2024, it was their kick coverage, notably in their Week 16 loss to the Commanders. They did (surprisingly) finish 13th in kick coverage DVOA. Their kick return unit finished 16th. The Eagles would prefer that their offense and defense decide the outcome of games, not their special teams units, so this is probably not a great rule change for them. It certainly is better for any fan that actually likes seeing kick returns instead of touchbacks.

2025 NFL season: Player departures that will have biggest impact on their former teams - NFL.com
FORMER TEAM: PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: C.J. Gardner-Johnson has not played for the same team in consecutive years since 2020-2021, when he was on his rookie deal with the Saints, but he helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl last season in his second stint with the team. Fresh off a championship, Philadelphia traded him to the Texans with budgetary concerns in mind. Moves like that one can help the Eagles remain competitive, but such deals only work if the replacements produce. Enter Texas product Andrew Mukuba — a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft — who might be asked to step in and fill the void right away. It will be no easy task, even on a talented defense. Meanwhile, Gardner-Johnson will aim to follow up a career-best season with a stellar campaign as a member of the Texans, where he’s joining one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

Packers’ tush push ban falls short in NFL meetings - Acme Packing Company
The next time the Packers and Eagles will face off will be in Week 10 on Monday Night Football, a game Philadelphia will have an extra week to prepare for as they’ll be coming off a bye week. Expect to hear a lot of noise about this proposal and its failure to secure 75 percent of the league’s votes going into that mid-season matchup.

Why keeping the tush push is a win for the Detroit Lions - Pride Of Detroit
While the Eagles’ frequent use of the tush push would have been most impacted by this rule change, the Lions would have been impacted, too. There are two notable plays from the Detroit Lions’ 2024 season that would’ve been considered illegal under the proposed ban.

The tush push survives after NFL owners fall two votes short - Hogs Haven
NFL owners are in Minneapolis, Minnesota today to vote on several rule change proposals. The proposal making the biggest headlines was from the Green Bay Packers, and that failed to get enough votes today. The tush push, made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles over the last few years, will remain an option for all NFL teams. The Eagles successfully lobbied to prevent the ban, and team owner Jeffrey Lurie brought Jason Kelce to the meetings to dispel rumors about the reason for his retirement.

NFL.com has Dallas Cowboys among lowest projected win totals across NFC teams - Blogging The Boys
As far as overall win totals though you can see that Frelund listed the odds for under 7.5. It is worth noting that she has the Cowboys at 7.2 projected wins with the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints as the only teams with fewer. This seems a bit harsh and like it is discounting the return of so many players who Dallas lost to injury last year. It isn’t a homer take to say that the Cowboys should have more wins than groups like the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and/or Seattle Seahawks who are directly in front of them on this list. Clearly that is why they play the games, though. Dallas happens to play three games against teams who Frelund projected to finish worse off than them so it would stand to reason that this would at least help.

Jerry Jones: Am I really against the tush push, or just don’t want Eagles to have an edge? - PFT
“Any play that’s out of the ordinary gets some extra scrutiny just because of the competition in there,” Jones said. “Here we are, the world champion is the main focus of the tush push, and here we are debating it, and having to decide. I thought, am I really against the tush push, or just don’t want Philadelphia to have an edge?” Asked which it is, a principled opposition to the play or just wanting to stop a division rival, Jones answered, “I don’t know. I flip flop.” Jones is saying out loud what others in the NFL won’t admit, that part of the opposition to the tush push is unrelated to the merits of the play. Instead, it’s about one particular team doing that play very well, and that one team winning the Super Bowl, and other teams wanting to ban the play to take away something that the best team in the league is doing better than everyone else.

Better or worse in 2025? New York Giants running backs - Big Blue View
Why they could be worse: As much as Tyrone Tracy deserves praise and fans should be excited about what he can do, he did show a concerning weakness in 2024. Tracy fumbled five times last season, and only Rhamondre Stevenson of the New England Patriots (seven) and Breece Hall of the New York Jets (six) fumbled more times. Worse, Tracy had far fewer touches than any of the backs with five or more fumbles. He averaged one fumble every 46.0 touches. On top of that, he dropped five of 53 passes thrown to him, 9.4%. Tracy’s ball security could be something that holds him back. As much as it is easy to fall in love with Skattebo, what if he can’t run over defenders and through tackle attempts in the NFL the way he could in college? What if his middling speed for a running back proves to be a detriment? What if the Giants wind up relying on Devin Singletary and the thus-far unreliable Eric Gray more than seems likely right now?

Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers would be beyond boring at this point - SB Nation
RJ: It is always important to be honest and I am doing so in telling you all that I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. Aaron Rodgers has ruined many of my seasons as a fan. They all sucked. Whatever bias you want to call that aside... it is stating the obvious to say that we are all exhausted at this point. As noted we have passed go and collected our $200 several times this offseason, so many times that the offseason is basically over as mentioned. The Steelers, a once proud and mighty franchise that has seemingly bent the knee here, waiting in the wind as Aaron does whatever we want to call all of this isn’t even sad anymore. It even passed boring. At the time of this writing our friends at FanDuel listed the over 8.5 wins line for Pittsburgh at +120. If you could lock that in right now with a future guarantee of Rodgers starting 17 games for them... would it even feel like a bargain? This is all yawn.

Jim Irsay, Colts Owner & CEO of 28 years, has died at 65 - Stampede Blue
Jim Irsay, the Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO, has died at the age of 65, the team announced Wednesday. Despite battling numerous health issues over the past few decades, it was unexpected. The Colts announced Mr. Irsay passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday afternoon. The son of Robert Irsay, who purchased the Baltimore Colts franchise in 1972 for $12 million. The elder Irsay moved the Colts to Indianapolis overnight on March 28, 1984. At just 24-years old, Jim was named team vice president and general manager, setting a never-before-seen precedent in the NFL. Jim inherited the franchise from his father following his passing in 1997 and became the youngest owner in the NFL at age 37.

The Linc - Saquon Barkley says the 2024 Eagles are a top 5 team of all time

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/23/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Saquon Barkley made a bold claim on Eagles’ placement in NFL’s greatest teams ever - SB Nation
Everyone loves to debate on who the greatest NFL team of all time was. Teams from yesteryear like the 1972 Miami Dolphins (who are still the only undefeated team of all time), the 1985 Chicago Bears, and the 1999 St. Louis Rams, or more modern teams like the 2013 Seahawks. Philadelphia Eagles’ RB Saquon Barkley is ready to throw one more team into consideration: the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles. While speaking on the Exciting Mics podcast (which is hosted by Eagles’ DBs Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean), Barkley had this to say about the 2024 Eagles: “I firmly believe when you look at our team that we had last year … I think we’re a top-five team of all time. … If you really look at the season outside of the first four games, it was belt to ass.” Barkley does make an interesting point. After a shaky 2-2 start to the season, the Eagles won 16 of their last 17 games, including a dominant Super Bowl victory. Their point differential over the course of the season was +160 per Pro Football Reference, which would be higher than the Super Bowl champions from 2018-2021 and outclass legendary teams like the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The playoff run the Eagles had really set them into an elite tier, shutting down legendary players and coaches like Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid on the biggest stage.

Saquon Barkley says the 2024 Eagles are a top-5 all-time NFL team. Here’s why he’s wrong. - CBS Sports
Where do the 2024 Eagles rank? As you can see, we wouldn’t slot them in among the NFL’s top five all-timers. Could they give one of the aforementioned teams a run for their money? Maybe. Maybe not. A more reasonable ranking for the 2024 Eagles is probably somewhere between Nos. 10-20 of all time. There’s no perfect science for comparing different greats from different eras, but recency bias shouldn’t mask the fact there’ve been a lot of truly magnificent teams over the years. The 1966 Green Bay Packers won the first Super Bowl under Vince Lombardi. The 1986 New York Giants had an unceasing wrecking ball in Lawrence Taylor. The 1999 Los Angeles Rams were the “Greatest Show on Turf” with a track-team offense. Would the 2024 Eagles have beaten those teams? Again, it’s debatable.

Eagles star calls teams against tush push ‘soft ... kind of lame’ - NJ.com
“I think it’s soft, to be honest,” Barkley said. “Everybody can do it. It’s not like it’s a play that we only can do. We happen to have one of the best and biggest O-lines and Jalen Hurts can squat 600 pounds. That’s not our fault. (Buffalo Bills quarterback) Josh Allen is super big but they’re not as successful with it. (Baltimore Ravens quarterback) Lamar Jackson is one of the best running quarterbacks of all time and they’re not as successful with it. It’s not something that everyone can’t do, so for them to try to eliminate it, I think that’s kind of lame.”

Defending Nick Sirianni: Why the Eagles are right to stick with their head coach - BGN
Sirianni will probably get fired after a bad year in a few years. And those who don’t rate him will rush to shout online and on TV, “See? I told you he wasn’t that good!” But that’s not how sports work. Every coach gets fired eventually. Success in the NFL is nearly impossible to maintain. But, here’s the crucial bit, it doesn’t erase what came before. Nick Sirianni has already succeeded. He’s taken the Eagles to a Super Bowl and built a team that consistently wins. I think a lot of the criticism stems from Sirianni’s awkward first press conference. People made their minds up about him right then and there and haven’t changed them since. That’s the unfortunate part of sports media. People don’t want to admit they were wrong. Admitting you’re wrong is harder than just doubling down. So, people will keep saying that Sirianni is overrated and the Eagles’ success is down to everyone else. Jeffrey Lurie said it best in his statement: the Eagles want to build a championship culture, and Sirianni embodies that vision. He empowers the people around him to do their jobs, and that’s exactly what a great leader does.

Where are the Eagles deep, and not so deep, after the 2025 NFL Draft: Offense edition - PhillyVoice
Are the Eagles in good shape here relative to the rest of the league, depth-wise? As long as Barkley is healthy and the Eagles continue to have more leads than deficits in the second halves of games, they are going to skew toward the run game. And when they pass, Brown and Smith will dominate targets, with Dallas Goedert getting most of the leftovers, as long as he’s healthy. There just isn’t much to go around for the other receivers. In that respect, the Eagles’ depth at receiver isn’t as critical as most other teams around the league. But it is a concern. In the five games that Brown and/or Smith missed last season — not including the meaningless Week 18 game — Dotson had 7 catches on 10 targets for 36 yards. He simply must be more threatening than that. Again, it’s not as big a deal within the structure of the Eagles’ offense and roster construction, but the Eagles depth at receiver is not as strong as most other teams around the league.

Bowen: The NFL couldn’t quite muster enough votes to punish the Eagles for winning the Super Bowl, but 22 teams tried - PHLY
Going into Wednesday, I thought: Surely I am missing something. There has to be a good reason for this effort, that I’m not getting. Maybe knowing the players and some of the coaches that have contributed to the play’s success has colored my perceptions. If the ban passes, or even comes close to passing, maybe whatever it is that I can’t see will become more obvious. Then the vote happened, and I looked at those totals. Read the quotes, which didn’t provide any more insight. I thought about what might have happened over the past year-plus that would have taken this unprecedented idea – the NFL, to my knowledge, has never banned a play – from way out on the fringes to the verge of success. Well, the Eagles won the Super Bowl. This is the only answer. Yet events outside sports tell us we live in an age when if enough people want to pretend something is true, it becomes accepted fact. So you will see the banning effort continue, with no acknowledgement of the real impetus, unless the Eagles suddenly get less successful at running the push, and/or don’t get close to defending their title. Then the issue will mysteriously become less urgent.

Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship take a friendship test - PE.com
The Exciting Whites find out just how well they know one another. Will they bond over their success? Or will there be drama on the field as a result?

Eagles selling “Push On” shirts as Philly fans celebrate tush push remaining legal - PFT
Eagles fans are in a mood to celebrate after the attempt to ban the tush push failed, and the team is capitalizing with a sale of new marchandise. The top item at the Eagles’ Pro Shop today is a T-shirt with an image of quarterback Jalen Hurts prepared to take a snap in the tush push formation, with the words “Push On” at the top. Instead of saying “click here” to buy the shirt, the website says “Push Here.” The Eagles posted similar “Push On” messaging on their social media, with posts that have hundreds of thousands of likes.

Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean takes up ballet to help in road to recovery - NBC10
BalletX, Philadelphia’s premiere contemporary ballet company, has picked up a new recruit. As Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean recovers from a knee injury he suffered during the playoffs last season, he has taken up ballet to become lighter and more agile on the football field. “There’s way more flexibility, of course. Way more mobility,” Dean said of the results of his ballet training. “It’s definitely something that’s helping with my rehab.” “You just feel a change immediately. After you stretch, you’re not as tight or as sore,” he added. Keelan Whitmore, the rehearsal director of BalletX, said the ballet exercises will help improve Dean’s muscles and muscle memory.

Picking the most underrated NFL players at every position - ESPN
Tight end: Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders. It looked like Ertz’s career might be over after he played only seven games for the Cardinals in 2023 at age 33. But he had a big comeback season with the Commanders in 2024. Ertz caught 66 passes for 654 yards and seven touchdowns, emerging as one of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ go-to receivers. Ertz also ranked 10th among tight ends in my DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) metric. He had an 85.7% run block win rate, one of the best figures among starting tight ends, too. The Commanders re-signed Ertz to a one-year, $6.25 million contract for 2025. They didn’t add any other tight ends in free agency or the draft, signaling that they’re keeping him in the starting role.

Washington Commanders Hidden Gems: 3 Secret Superstars on the 2025 roster - Hogs Haven
Clearly, this was a pivotal year in Kinlaw’s career, and he did his level best to prove that he still had something to offer. Maybe not at a seventh-overall level, but with five sacks, 30 total pressures, 27 solo tackles, 24 stops, four tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles, the Jets version of Kinlaw impressed the Commanders enough to give him a three-year, $45 million contract with $30 million guaranteed. That’s a lot of lettuce for a guy who’s still defining his palette at this point, but Peters said after the signing that Kinlaw is still a raw ball of clay who has played at different weights — as low as 275 with the 49ers, and at 320 with the Jets last season — and that the Commanders see Kinlaw as a player who can both penetrate and anchor from multiple gaps at around that 320 mark.

S Malik Hooker named Cowboys most underrated player - Blogging The Boys
Safety Malik Hooker hasn’t been a star in his four seasons with the Cowboys, but he’s been a consistent, reliable presence in the secondary. The nine-year veteran enters 2025 with a clear path to continuing in his starting role, and perhaps without enough appreciation for his contributions. Analytics site Pro Football Focus certainly thinks so, recently naming Hooker as Dallas’ most underrated player ahead of the upcoming season. Hooker was one of three defensive backs from the NFC East to get recognized by PFF, joining Giants CB Andru Phillips and Eagles S Reed Blankenship. The Commanders’ player was TE Zach Ertz, who just turned in a very productive year in Washington despite turning 34 last November.

Evan Neal will — finally — move to guard for the New York Giants - Big Blue View
For several months signs have pointed toward Evan Neal transitioning from right tackle to guard for the New York Giants. A post from Paul Schwartz of the New York Post confirms that is indeed what will happen when the Giants begin OTAs next week. After three difficult seasons at right tackle, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft will line up at right guard this spring. If he shows an aptitude for the position, perhaps he could supplant 35-year-old Greg Van Roten as the starter at that spot. That would allow the Giants to get some return on investment for picking Neal so early in the draft. It would also turn Van Roten into a quality guard-center backup.

Thoughts on Brock Purdy’s $265 Million Contract Extension - Over The Cap
In any case this is a monster year for the 49ers. They have invested a lot of money this year on and have a lot of roster space occupied by 3rd+ contract players. That is a risky way to build in the NFL. They need Purdy to continue his growth to get to the level where more people think he is capable of carrying a football team. Fairly or unfairly he is going to get blamed if they don’t win even if it is because the injury bug hits the 49ers older players or players just look a step slower. This is definitely one of the teams I am most interested in watching this year because of all of the expectations that they should have on them.

The Linc - The Eagles’ most underappreciated player

NFL: Cleveland Browns at Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/24/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Most underappreciated NFL players: Top candidate for each NFC team entering 2025 season - NFL.com
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: MORO OJOMO. Admittedly, this is my biggest projection in this exercise, given that the 2023 seventh-round pick has played just 456 defensive snaps in the NFL. But in the wake of Milton Williams’ departure in free agency, Ojomo is set to assume a bigger role, and I think he’ll seize the opportunity. Why? Well, among interior defenders with at least 300 pass-rushing snaps last season, Ojomo boasted PFF’s second-highest win rate (18.2%), trailing only Chris Jones (18.8%). Williams actually finished fourth (17.6%), underscoring what a blessing it is to line up next to double-team destroyer Jalen Carter. But unlike Milton, Moro will continue to reap that benefit in 2025.

Where are the Eagles deep, and not so deep, after the 2025 NFL Draft: Defense edition - PhillyVoice
Interior defensive line. Carter is sort of the Saquon Barkley of the defense, in that he had a hefty workload in 2024. Here were the Eagles’ interior defensive line snap counts last season: Jalen Carter: 1027, Milton Williams: 629, Moro Ojomo: 465, Jordan Davis: 431, Thomas Booker: 170. Expect a significant uptick in Ojomo’s snaps this season, as he’ll take Williams’ former role. We’ll see if Davis can play more than three snaps at a time without having his hands on his hips. The Eagles will also hope that fourth-round rookie Ty Robinson can step into a role similar to Ojomo’s last season, where he can play both on run downs and passing downs. Are the Eagles in good shape here relative to the rest of the league, depth-wise? As you can see above, only five interior linemen played for the Eagles in 2024, though Brandon Graham would chip in on rare occasions. The Eagles weren’t super deep along the interior of their line in 2024, but it didn’t matter because Carter was a beast who played quadruple-digit snaps, and they didn’t have any injuries otherwise. If Carter got hurt, that would be a big problem, obviously.

How many games on the Eagles’ schedule do they have a quarterback advantage in? - BGN
This season, Hurts and the Eagles will again be facing a solid group of opposing quarterbacks, topped by two-time former MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen, and rising stars Jayden Daniels, mixed with established, though considered second-tier elite starters like Matt Stafford, Justin Herbert, Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff. Geno Smith has, and can, beat the Eagles. It’s an interesting list who the Eagles and Hurts will face in 2025. Hurts is the best quarterback in the NFC East, however, it is a reign that may not last long, with the Washington Commanders’ Daniels showing remarkable poise and polish his rookie season beating the Eagles on a last-second TD pass. Dak Prescott is still formidable, just two years removed from going 12-5 as a starter, while throwing 36 touchdowns against nine interceptions for 4,516 yards. Wilson, however, is shot. The Eagles will have challenges ahead Mahomes, Allen, Daniels, Stafford, Herbert, Goff, Smith and Mayfield, who has beaten the Eagles in his last two starts against them. Here’s a look at who the Eagles will face in 2025 and a brief summary as to who the better quarterback will be.

How (and why) the Eagles pushed back, plus the story of Colts owner Jim Irsay - The Athletic
Wednesday morning’s “Competition and Health & Safety” session was Lurie’s chance to make a final impression — and he spent the better part of an hour making it.He began by emphasizing the need to clean up the process around the play rather than the play itself, pointing to the fact that no data supports the idea that it’s inherently more dangerous than any other play on the field. “It’s the safest play in the history of the game,” he told the room. “Whoever votes to ban this play is taking liability for putting risk on our quarterbacks.”Kelce was up next. He argued why the play should remain in the game, telling the room: “If I could run 60 tush pushes a game, I’d come back.” As for why the Packers made the proposal, high-ranking front-office sources from four teams felt Green Bay was used by the league because of their lack of a principal owner. With the Packers’ name on the proposal, other teams — and their owners — could throw their support behind it without a single owner being targeted by those who opposed it.

Saquon Barkley throws filthy alley-oop to Cooper DeJean - ESPN
Saquon Barkley tosses a perfect lob to Eagles teammate Cooper DeJean.

A.J. Brown not lingering in afterglow of Super Bowl win - NBCSP
Don’t get it twisted. A.J. Brown enjoyed winning the Super Bowl. He enjoyed celebrating in the Eagles’ winning locker room at the Superdome after their 40-22 win over the Chiefs. And he really enjoyed the parade on Broad Street. “The parade was very special,” Brown said this week ahead of Eagles OTAs. “I celebrated it and it was very fun. But after that moment, it was back to work, back to trying to find new ways to get better.” That’s not lip service from Brown. In fact, the Eagles’ star receiver surprised fans with an Instagram post on Feb. 12 trying to express his feelings after reaching the mountaintop. He thought he would feel fulfilled by winning a Super Bowl but his personal experience was different.

Roger Goodell: NFL will continue to study tush push - PFT
“We’ll see how it plays out this season,” Goodell said. “And then we’ll come back, and we’ll discuss those as we always do every year. What’s the right way to go forward? So, I think the discussion was helpful to us and what we want to focus on this season.” In other words, it’s not over. The league will study it. The league will revisit it. And the league quite possibly will address it again, either through the Competition Committee or by nudging a team to tee it up. We believe the league office (which is run by the Commissioner) wants it to be gone. We believe nothing that happens this season will change that decidedly non-neutral point of view. If anything, the league will become more determined to get rid of it — especially if more teams commit multiple offside fouls near the goal line in an effort to stop it, or if the league can find (or manufacture) injury data to support the conclusion that the play is not safe.

Philadelphia Eagles brass can’t stop making sex analogies - Awful Announcing
The Philadelphia Eagles are among the most successful NFL franchises of the 21st century, coming off their second Super Bowl championship in eight seasons. So whatever they’re doing is working. That appears to include their ownership and front office making weird sex analogies at inappropriate times.

The Eagles are selling Tush Push merch. So why doesn’t any of it actually say ‘Tush Push’? - Inquirer
The phrase “Tush Push,” however, is conveniently missing from the latest line of merchandise. And there’s a reason for that. The Eagles own the trademark for the phrase Brotherly Shove, but Deanna Slamans of Hummelstown, Pa., near Hershey, filed for the trademark on Tush Push before the team did. Trademark applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. Since Slamans filed her application a few weeks ahead of the Eagles, her request was reviewed first. According to Sportico, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in May “issued a suspension notice on the Eagles’ application, citing Slamans’ earlier filing as a ‘prior-filed potentially conflicting pending application.’”

HC Brian Schottenheimer’s culture has created a renewed ‘energy’ for Cowboys - Blogging The Boys
Quite a few fans around Cowboys Nation wasn’t exactly thrilled with the Dallas Cowboys decision to replace Mike McCarthy with Brian Schottenheimer as the new head coach. Schottenheimer really wasn’t on anybody’s radar as a head coach candidate in the league, and yet, that is the direction Jerry Jones decided to go. As a first time head coach, Schottenheimer has a lot to prove and will have to do it under a microscope. Nearly everyone will be heavily scrutinizing every little move he makes now that he’s running the show for one of the most popular sports franchises in the entire world. Schottenheimer knows what he signed up for though, and believes he’s capable of doing the job. It’s going to be really interesting to follow his journey, and so far, early indications show that he’s off to a good start with the Cowboys. The early impact he’s making already shows positive signs he’s changing the teams culture in a positive way.

Better or worse in 2025? New York Giants wide receivers - Big Blue View
The Giants were 31st in the NFL in offense a season ago, and 30th the season before. Despite that, they did not overhaul the offense this offseason. The Giants, instead, sold the idea that the problem was at quarterback. That Daniel Jones and the horde of others who replaced him when he was injured, ineffective, or no longer on the roster were the problem. The wide receiver group is emblematic. It is, basically, the same group the Giants operated with in 2025. There were no major free agent signings and no wide receivers drafted. Maybe Lil’Jordan Humphrey or Zach Pascal can find roles, and maybe one of the five undrafted free agent receivers signed will make the roster, but as of now the primary receivers are the same.

The Linc - Drew Mukuba draws comparisons to Budda Baker and other All-Pro safeties

2025 NFL Draft - Rounds 2 & 3

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/25/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Could Eagles rookie Andrew Mukuba start? Winding road to NFL prepped him for challenge - The Athletic
The Eagles most appreciate the versatility Mukuba affords them in coverage. Roseman emphasized upon drafting Mukuba that it’s “really hard to find cover safeties.” Mukuba punctuated that portion of his resume with a game-winning interception against Arizona State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. But versatility can be an empty buzzword. Yes, Mukuba played in different alignments at both Texas and Clemson. But to Kwiatkowski, “versatility” when directly applied to Mukuba means he’s attached to the affirmative when paired with any of the following questions: Can he play in zone coverage? Can he play in man coverage? Can he communicate? Can he blitz and beat blocks and tackle? Those specific affirmatives can support the creativity of NFL defensive coordinators such as Vic Fangio. Gideon remains convinced that the 5-foot-11, 186-pound Mukuba would’ve been a first-round selection if he’d been an inch taller and 14 pounds heavier. Kwiatkowski and Gideon have often compared Mukuba to another undersized safety Kwiatkowski coached at Washington: Budda Baker (5-10, 195), a two-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler for the Arizona Cardinals, whom Gideon says also plays bigger than his size. “He plays a lot like Budda, like he throws his s— around,” Gideon said. “He’s a coach’s dream in that respect.

Eagles added a ‘quiet assassin’ who will ‘knock your chin strap off’ this offseason - NJ.com
“He comes down hill every snap. If an opportunity gets presented, he will knock your chin strap off,” Blake said. “A lot of people try to say he’s small, he’s thin, but you can’t turn on the film and show me a game where he was at a disadvantage. And if you just break down his season at Texas, most of his interceptions came against their biggest opponents in the biggest moments. He has that ‘it’ factor to change a game when the game needs to be changed. But he’s like a quiet assassin about it all.” Pro Football Focus compared Mukuba to former Patriots All-Pro safety Devin McCourty in their scouting report, while other people see similarities between Mukuba and former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Blake said Mukuba plays with former Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders’ old-school physicality but has the range of former Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas and the instincts of former Detroit Lions and Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs.

Eagles’ versatile second-round draft pick Andrew Mukuba moves ‘like a missile’: Mike Mayock Q&A - Inquirer
I read a quote where he said [on The Rich Eisen Show of the Mukuba pick], “We weren’t trying to draft for need, but when need hits the value of the player, it’s a beautiful thing.” And I felt the same way. Mukuba, there was some mixed opinion on about where his value in the draft is, but what I saw on tape, he was three years at Clemson where he played a lot of nickel. No interceptions in three years at Clemson. [Actually, he had one interception there.] And then he goes in the portal and goes to Texas, they played him all over the place, he had five picks. Actually had six on tape — one of them didn’t count. So here’s what I would tell you about Mukuba: really aggressive, really tough, like a missile, tackles. Sometimes misses tackles because he’s overaggressive. I think he’s best instinctually with his eyes on the quarterback whether it’s at free safety, strong safety, or they played him a lot where they put him in a “robber” position underneath.

Projecting 2025 NFL rookie leaders in 10 stat categories - ESPN
Tackles: 1. Malaki Starks, S, Baltimore Ravens: 71. T-2. Nick Martin, LB, San Francisco 49ers: 58. T-2. Jahdae Barron, CB, Denver Broncos: 58. T-4. Andrew Mukuba, S, Philadelphia Eagles: 56. T-4. Jihaad Campbell, LB, Philadelphia Eagles: 56. [...] An off-ball linebacker usually leads the rookie class in tackles, but Campbell was the only one selected in the first round. He has to battle Zack Baun — and Nakobe Dean, once he’s back from a knee injury — for snaps. Instead, Martin is our top projected tackler at the position, as the third-rounder should carve out a role next to Fred Warner in San Francisco. Second-rounder Demetrius Knight Jr. (Bengals) is a name to watch since he could have a bigger role if Germaine Pratt is traded. Barron, the No. 20 pick, will immediately battle Riley Moss to start opposite Pat Surtain II in Denver. In Philadelphia, second-rounder Mukuba has a real shot to replace C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who was traded to the Texans.

“Booked” is the compelling redemption story of a Philly area gambler - BGN
Steve Maltepes, known as “The Philly Godfather,” lived an unfathomable life, which is now a compelling book about the son of a Greek immigrant who kept reinventing himself and developed into a national level gambling pundit. Maltepes’ book, entitled, ironically, “Booked,” was released a few weeks ago, tells his story and is among the top sellers of new releases on Amazon. Maltepes, a regular gambling contributor to Bleeding Green Nation during the NFL season, grew up an Eagles fan in the Delaware County suburb of Upper Darby and persevered over considerable obstacles—some of which were self-imposed. The book has some interesting gambling anecdotes that involve the Eagles and NFL gambling in general.

In Roob’s Observations: Why the coach of an Eagles rival should be considered a hero - NBCSP
8. Milton Williams is a good, solid, productive interior lineman, and gave the Eagles four quality seasons. He’s a guy who’s always going to give everything he has and will never let anyone out-work him. But it’s going to be very tough for Williams to live up to that four-year, $104 million contract. Williams is now the 3rd-highest-paid interior lineman in the league, ahead of Dexter Lawrence, Vita Vea, Quinnen Williams and Jalen Carter (for now). As much as I appreciate what Williams gave the Eagles as a 2021 3rd-round pick, and he had a terrific postseason, he’s never made a Pro Bowl, he ranks 23rd among interior linemen with 11 sacks over the last four seasons, he’s only started 19 games, and his 41.6 percent snap count ranks 66th among defensive tackles since 2021. And he’s not an elite run defender. Pro Football Focus ranked him 77th against the run out of 79 interior linemen who played at least 200 run snaps last year. But he does give you very good pressure from the inside and had 10 quarterback hits, 5.0 sacks and seven tackles for loss in 2024. He will make the Patriots a better team. But when you get that kind of money, expectations change. Along with superstar money comes superstar expectations, and Williams isn’t a superstar. Now, he’s still only 26 and he is coming off his best season and big Super Bowl, so maybe he’ll continue trending upward. I’m certainly not knocking the player. Williams is really good, and good for him getting that kind of money. But people are going to expect more than the guy he’s been for four years for $26 million per year, and I’m just not sure if Williams can play up to that amount.

Eagles player review: LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. edition - PhillyVoice
He’ll be a core special teamer again in 2025, but he also has a chance to begin the season as a temporary starting off-ball linebacker opposing Zack Baun, with Dean very likely to begin the season on the PUP list, and rookie first-round selection Jihaad Campbell still recovering from shoulder surgery. I believe he has a certain base competency against the run and in zone coverage, and should be fine if Fangio calls on him to play a meaningful role, but I also believe that the defensive staff will be smart about what they ask him to do within the structure of the defense, given his athletic limitations.

Todd Bowles: Bucs didn’t sign Desmond Watson to defend the tush-push - PFT
We’ll stick with 437, for present purposes. Coupled with Vita Vea (who is officially 347 pounds — which perhaps could mean 437 or 473 or even 734), that gives the Bucs 784 pounds that can be positioned at the tip of the tush-push spear. Again, Watson first has to make the 53-man roster. If he does, it will make for an interesting moment when the Bucs host the Eagles, and when the Eagles are in a short-yardage or goal-line situation.

Update: The Washington Commanders agree to terms with fourth player from their 2025 draft class - Hogs Haven
Former Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr has reportedly agreed to terms on a 4-year, $15,681,094 deal with the Washington Commanders. He was the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft and is expected to compete for the starting right tackle job during training camp with Laremy Tunsil taking over at LT. Second-round pick CB Trey Amos is the only draft pick to remain unsigned.

Why the table is set for KaVontae Turpin to have a breakout season on offense for the Cowboys - Blogging The Boys
Turpin enters a new season with even more experience and a new coaching staff. Yeah, Brian Schottenheimer has been with this offense during his entire time in Dallas, but what will it mean for him with Schotty having greater influence on the play-calling? So much has been made about utilizing guys to their strengths, so will they put him in more favorable situations this upcoming season? With so much attention devoted to stopping Lamb and Pickens, there will be opportunities to find open space in the secondary, and Turpin is really fun when he gets in space. Imagine him getting loose with no help available over the top. We don’t know what this new Cowboys offense will look like this season. With so many different pieces, it will be interesting to see what the coaching staff comes up with. They have options, and Turpin is definitely one of those options. There are a lot of new changes that could line up nicely for him to have a breakout season on offense this year.

Did the Giants close the talent gap? Ranking NFC East offenses position-by-position - Big Blue View
Here are the final results for the NFC East offense: 23 points — Eagles. 13 points — Giants. 12 points — Cowboys. 12 points — Commanders. The Eagles missed a clean sweep thanks to Jayden Daniels, and the NEW YORK GIANTS are second! What kind of homer stuff is this!? Trust me, the Giants have a lot of work to do to overcome the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders on Sunday. For starters, defeating Dallas would be nice, and not being swept by the division would be just an EXCELLENT start. Still, for this silly exercise, the Giants roster — on paper — isn’t deep in the dumpster and is at least in the conversation to compete, offensively, with the other teams in the division.

Brock Purdy’s new contract includes rare clause only 7 other players have - SB Nation
However, where he was able to win back some leverage on his contract was with the inclusion of a full no-trade clause. Only seven other players in the NFL have a no trade clause in their contract, all QBs: Baltimore Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson, Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence, Philadelphia Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts, Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes, Detroit Lions’ QB Jared Goff, Atlanta Falcons’ QB Kirk Cousins, and Buffalo Bills’ QB Josh Allen. Purdy now joins this exclusive group of players who can dictate their future regardless of what happens to the team around them.

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers provides hint for landing spot in 2025 - NFL.com
And for what it’s worth, he shut down playing for the Saints when another fan asked, replying with a quick “no.” This marks the latest breadcrumb potentially leading to Pittsburgh as the QB ruminates on a 21st season. The clearest indication Rodgers might end up wearing black and gold took place on April 1, when president Art Rooney II said at the Annual League Meeting that “all signs are positive” he’s heading the Steelers’ way. Head coach Mike Tomlin has stated there’s no deadline, and pass rusher Alex Highsmith said on Thursday’s The Insiders that waiting on the 41-year-old’s decision isn’t a “distraction at all.” Time ticks on. Rodgers hinting at a union won’t get the Steelers any closer to a championship — only him officially signing would do that.

The Linc - The NFL keeps coming for the Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/26/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

NFL commish Roger Goodell questions ‘integrity’ of current salary cap system - Acme Packing Company
The recent success of the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that spent $115 million more in cash than the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024 and is set to be a top-seven cash spender in the NFL again in 2025, almost certainly is an issue for some ownership groups. The Eagles’ mantra has been to extend players early on their rookie contracts, sometimes immediately after their third year in the league is over, and to consistently convert their salaries into signing bonuses to spread the cap payments over several years, by which point cap dollars will be more diluted. The timing of their contracts all escalate up to the 2029 season, which is when the NFL is expected to opt out of their current broadcast deals and sign a massive new set of contracts with streaming services. In the world the Eagles are operating in, it’s a legitimate strategy to be hyper-aggressive at the start of new broadcast contracts and then slowly make cap payments on those teams as you reach the end of the deal. That only works if owners are willing to pay that kind of big cash immediately, though, which we’ve seen teams like the Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals balk at over the last decade. The game is different when people are playing the game. The idea of the “hard cap” made sense up until Covid, but now teams are well aware of how salary conversions and void years can be used to manipulate the current cap system. If I were to guess as to what Goodell was referring to, the “integrity” question that league members are asking themselves is whether how the NFL treats the accounting of signing bonus and/or roster bonus dollars on the cap should be changed under the next collective bargaining agreement. Funnily enough, the biggest benefactor of this might be the Eagles, the team that has taken advantage of this strategy more than anyone. A change to the cap system will mean that teams will no longer be able to do what Philadelphia executed, all the way to a Super Bowl.

Changes the NFL Could Consider with the Salary Cap and CBA - Over The Cap
think when you look at loopholes in the cap there are also other things besides the void years that some may think are not in the spirit of the cap. The modification of contracts to allow for a post June 1 designation is something I could see the league considering removing. There are a few teams that have done this, with the Eagles being the first I can recall, and they have gotten around the NFL’s original rule prohibiting the renegotiation after the end of the regular season by reworking a deal the last week of the year. In general the June 1 designations could be a discussion point. Massive bogus void year salaries have allowed teams to get around rules surrounding renegotiations while also escaping certain salary cap treatments. Certain teams are tanking or finding ways to carry over massive amounts of cap room to increase the ability to spend the following year. Per game bonuses hidden as NLTBE incentives. Even insurance premiums could be a point of discussion. I think it is clear that as the NFL approaches their next CBA they have already identified areas that they may want to discuss tweaking to try to bring things back to how the NFL functioned and spent from 2011 to 2018. Some teams would certainly be strongly against these changes but many I think would support changing things if it means finding ways to reduce player compensation and bring costs down more in line to what the NFL owners felt was fair about a decade ago.

5 questions and answers about Azeez Ojulari - BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles signed one free agent this offseason who qualified for a contract that counts against their compensatory pick formula: Azeez Ojulari. In other words, he’s their biggest veteran free agent investment. Let’s learn more about the 24-year-old edge rusher by getting a New York Giants perspective on him. Here’s what Ed Valentine of Big Blue View had to say about Ojulari through answers to my questions.

Eagles rally around Sirianni as coach signs extension - ESPN
Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown said he didn’t know how long Nick Sirianni’s new multiyear contract ran, but that didn’t stop him from synching his future with that of his head coach. “[Last week] I told him congrats, and I told him I’m done when he’s done,” Brown said. Player after player who took to the podium on Tuesday welcomed the news of Sirianni’s extension, a group that included Brown, quarterback Jalen Hurts and left tackle Jordan Mailata. That makes plenty of sense. Philadelphia is coming off a Super Bowl-winning campaign. Sirianni is 54-23 with the Eagles, including the postseason. His .701 win percentage is the fifth best by any coach in NFL history (minimum 75 games), per ESPN Research. He is the first head coach to earn four playoff appearances, two conference championships and a Super Bowl title in his first four seasons. But it’s been a more turbulent ride than the final results suggest.

Love to Hate - Iggles Blitz
I jokingly asked a couple of co-workers how excited they were by the news that the tush push wasn’t banned. Both of them responded they were actually disappointed. They also told me they had developed a hatred for the Eagles. This caught me off guard. One is a Broncos fan and the other a Panthers fan. Neither of those teams is a rival for the Eagles. I thought about their response for a bit and then it hit me. The Super Bowl champion Eagles are so good they are now worth hating. That’s actually quite a compliment.

Every NFL team’s biggest question after the 2025 NFL Draft - PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: Who wins the right guard spot? When you’re the defending Super Bowl champions and didn’t suffer catastrophic personnel losses, there aren’t a ton of questions entering the following season (besides if you’ll be good enough to repeat). However, one of the few uncertainties surrounding this Eagles team resides at right guard. With Mekhi Becton now a Charger, Philadelphia made two moves to land potential starters in his stead, including re-signing Matt Pryor (78.1 PFF pass-blocking grade) and trading for former first-round pick Kenyon Green (38.6 PFF overall grade). Philadelphia also returns Tyler Steen (40.7 PFF overall grade), who played 186 snaps at right guard in 2024. Pryor seems like the odds-on bet to claim the job next to Cam Jurgens and Lane Johnson, but Jeff Stoutland is capable of cultivating turnarounds, as we saw with the former first-rounder Becton a year ago.

Jets’ support for tush push could be a sign that they plan to use it with Justin Fields - PFT
The Jets were among the 10 teams that voted to keep the tush push, defying the league’s desire to kill the play. Could it be a sign that the Jets are planning to incorporate the technique into their offense, given that quarterback Justin Fields is on track to be the starter? As noted by Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Fields has attempted 12 push sneaks in his career. Eleven resulted in first downs.

The 10 worst contracts in the NFC East - PhillyVoice
1) Dak Prescott, QB, Cowboys. [...] Last offseason, Prescott was set to play on the final year of his deal. For some dumbass reason, Jerry Jones said that he wanted to “see more cards played” before getting a deal done with him. Predictably, that didn’t work out, as the Lions’ Jared Goff got a new deal worth $53 million per season, followed by the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence getting a new deal worth $55 million (!) per season. OOPS! Just before the start of the 2024 season, Prescott signed for $240 million over four years, or $60 million per season. That made him the highest-paid player in NFL history, a title he still holds. Prescott is obviously far from the best player in the NFL. He’s a borderline top 10 quarterback, and certainly other teams around the league would rather have him than their current quarterbacks, but he is also coming off arguably the worst season of his career, with career lows in QB Rating (86.0), QBR (45.3), and a 3-5 record before he was shut down for the season with a hamstring injury. He also turns 32 in July.

New York Giants site questionably ranks Giants quarterbacks ahead of Dak Prescott - Blogging The Boys
But as users pointed out in the comment section at BBV, this rationale was not used for literally any other position in the analysis. Even if you want to lump contractual value into things, you can make a very strong argument (I’m sure Brian Schottenheimer would and since we are counting Brian Daboll’s gushing as a value) that Dak is worth his current contract relative to what the Giants have going on. Just because the Giants have some lower-value quarterbacks on their roster does not make them good. Wilson and Winston were available for what they were because they are not very good. Dart is admittedly an unknown commodity, but he was so important to the Giants (even with all of the gushing) that they let him fall almost out of the first round entirely before ending his slide. Again, no one here is advocating for anything other than the fact that there is no argument on this planet or any other in our solar system that the Giants have a more preferable quarterback situation to the Cowboys. Even Prescott’s biggest critics likely agree with this. Once again, the Giants have lost 13 straight games to Prescott-led Cowboys teams.

10 things to watch during New York Giants OTAs - Big Blue View
Russell Wilson: Wilson is the starting quarterback, but he won’t be the one anyone is most interested in. That will rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart. How will Wilson handle the dynamic of having the player who will take his job — this year or next — already in place? Wilson, by many accounts, can be an acquired taste. There were reports out of Pittsburgh that some Steelers teammates weren’t buying his leadership efforts. How does the dynamic between Wilson and his teammates look, and feel? Oh, and how does the passing game look with Wilson at the controls? ... Jaxson Dart’s every move. Like rookie minicamp, there will probably be an over the top interest in everything Dart does. How do he and Wilson interact How much time does head coach Brian Daboll spend focused on the rookie? What does Dart do while Wilson is taking reps? How does he look when Dart does take reps?

Eagles 53-man roster prediction as OTAs begin

Washington Commanders v Philadelphia Eagles

Here’s an early projection of what the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles will look like.

We previously spent time projecting the Philadelphia Eagles’ depth chart for the 2025 NFL season. We started with the offense, moved on to the defense, and then finished up with the special teams unit. With OTAs starting up today, it’s now time for a prediction of who will actually make the final cut down to 53 players. We’ll certainly update these projections throughout the rest of the offseason to reflect meaningful developments from practices and preseason games.

OFFENSE

QUARTERBACK: Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Kyle McCord (3) [3]

Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, will likely be required to pass the ball more often than he did in 2024. McKee is arguably an upgrade on Kenny Pickett as QB2, especially since he now gets to benefit from taking way more reps than he typically got in the past. McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson are battling it out for the emergency third quarterback role. McCord will likely win that job unless he totally bombs and DTR lights it up.

RUNNING BACK: Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, AJ Dillon (3) [6]

How will Barkley follow up the best running back season in NFL history? History suggests he can’t be quite that awesome again but he’ll probably still be pretty good. Shipley figures to take over the Kenny Gainwell role as RB2. Dillon isn’t necessarily guaranteed to make the roster but he seems like a good depth option to have around. Shipley and Dillon could share the workload if Barkley becomes unavailable. Undrafted rookie free agent signings Montrell Johnson Jr. and ShunDerrick Powell have a chance to push for RB3 or RB4.

FULLBACK: Ben VanSumeren (1) [7]

The Eagles weren’t using a fullback so often last year that they MUST keep one on the roster. But they seem to like BVS, who provides special teams value when he’s not lead blocking.

WIDE RECEIVER: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, Danny Gray (5) [12]

The Eagles are entering their fourth season of A.J. and DeVonta leading the way at WR. Prior to this era, there were many seasons when they would’ve killed to have at least one of those two. It’ll be interesting to see if Dotson can emerge as more of a factor after not doing much in 2024. One would think him and Hurts should be able to build a better chemistry this offseason. Wilson is an intriguing role player as a big blocker and red zone threat. Who is Danny Gray, you might ask? Well, the 2022 third-round pick is a burner with 4.33 speed who might be worth paying attention to. In a survey conducted by PHLY’s Zach Berman, multiple starting defenders (Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship) shouted out Gray as a standout from last year’s practice squad. Ainias Smith isn’t an easy cut but he often struggled last offseason.

TIGHT END: Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Harrison Bryant (3) [15]

After much speculation that Goedert was a goner, he’ll be back in Philly for at least one more season. Very good news. It’ll be interesting to see who backs him up. Calcaterra is a capable receiver but he’s been a liability as a blocker. Watching Bryant reminded me of watching a lesser Zach Ertz in terms of a reliable chain-mover who isn’t super flashy. Kylen Granson and E.J. Jenkins are also in the mix for TE3 ... or perhaps TE4 if the Eagles keep four. But I’m guessing three is the number with them already keeping a fullback.

OFFENSIVE LINE: Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson, Kendall Lamm, Kenyon Green, Matt Pryor, Drew Kendall, Trevor Keegan, Myles Hinton (11) [26]

Four of the five starters are locked in. The big question is: who starts at right guard? Steen figures to get the first nod and it’s worth noting that the Eagles haven’t really missed a beat when he’s started games for them. Green and Pryor could both seriously challenge for the starting RG job, however. Lamm seems like a direct Fred Johnson replacement as the Eagles’ new swing tackle. We’ll see if Kendall can play guard at all but for now he’s at least the backup center. Keegan isn’t necessarily a lock to make the roster after spending most of his rookie season as a healthy scratch. Jeff Stoutland looked really excited after the Eagles drafted Hinton, so, I can’t see him getting cut. Stout loves him some Brett Toth, who will safely make it to the practice squad as the NFL equivalent of a ‘quad-A player’ in baseball. Cameron Williams can be a phantom IR stash. Massive UDFA signing Hollin Pierce might force his way into the Eagles not wanting to risk him getting poached.

DEFENSE

EDGE RUSHER: Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Azeez Ojulari, Joshua Uche, Antwaun Powell-Ryland (5) [31]

Smith got better and better as the 2024 season went along. We’ll see if he can make another developmental leap from Year 2 to Year 3. Hunt also got better with more playing time as a rookie. The Eagles are counting on him becoming a regular contributor in their edge rusher rotation. If Ojulari can stay healthy (a big if), he can be a solid player for the Eagles. Uche previously showed potential to get after the quarterback but he can’t be considered a roster lock. APR was simply too productive in college to be a total non-factor in the NFL. I left Bryce Huff off here because I just don’t think Vic Fangio trusts him to play. I could see Huff getting traded or the Eagles treating him like James Bradberry last year where he spends the entire season on injured reserve. One of Patrick Johnson, Ochaun Mathis, or KJ Henry could conceivably earn a roster spot with a strong summer.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE: Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Ty Robinson, Thomas Booker IV (5) [36]

Jalen Carter, Defensive Player of the Year this season? It’s on the table. The Eagles are counting on Davis to be better in Year 4. It’s possible they’re in denial about what he is at this point but it’s also possible that he could fully bloom this season. The former outcome seems more likely. Ojomo could be DT2 in terms of snaps played as he looks to step up in the Milton Williams role. Robinson should at least be a solid rotational defensive tackle as a rookie (and perhaps he could get some occasional goal line fullback looks). Booker was productive in a relatively small sample size last year. He seems like a good DT4 or DT5 to keep around. Gabe Hall was one of the Eagles’ top UDFA signings from last year, so, he could be worth monitoring. Byron Young is a former third-round pick who will be in his first offseason in Fangio’s defense.

OFF-BALL LINEBACKER: Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon Jr. (4) [40]

Baun could be due for some natural regression after being so unbelievably great last year. Then again, any kind of step back like that could be offset by him being much less new to his off-ball linebacker position. It’s unclear if/when Campbell will be ready to play in 2025 but he could potentially be a Week 1 starter. If neither Campbell nor Nakobe Dean can play in Week 1, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Smael Mondon Jr. are battling it out for the temporary starting job next to Baun. We have Dean beginning the season on PUP, by the way. More on him later in this article.

CORNERBACK: Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Kelee Ringo, Adoree’ Jackson, Mac McWilliams (5) [45]

Q and Coop were incredible as rookies. Developmental isn’t always linear, so, it’s entirely possible they’re not as good in 2025. But it’s hard to believe they’ll be bad after such a strong start to their careers. Assuming DeJean remains as a full-time player in the slot, Ringo is the top contender to start on the outside. Ringo has shown promise to this point and now’s the time for him to run with the opportunity. Jackson could end up starting if Ringo struggles or if injury opens up a spot for him. McWilliams figures to be a depth player as a rookie. The Eagles could certainly keep Eli Ricks, who was on the roster last year but didn’t play very much. They might be best served to trade him for more depth at another position, though.

SAFETY: Reed Blankenship, Drew Mukuba, Sydney Brown, Andre’ Sam (4) [49]

Blankenship is an underrated player and the Eagles should be looking to sign him to an extension since he’ll be a free agent after 2025. He’s locked in as a starter but the other spot is up for grabs. Projecting rookies (especially of the non-Round 1 variety) to start is typically bold but Fangio might really like Mukuba, who was a playmaker last year at Texas. The Eagles were previously high on Brown but he has much to prove this offseason. We’re projecting Sam to overtake Tristin McCollum as a depth safety who excels on special teams. Lewis Cine is an interesting flyer to monitor this summer. Maxen Hook is probably the Eagles UDFA with the best chance to make the roster; he could be a fourth or fifth safety option.

SPECIAL TEAMS

RETURN SPECIALIST: Avery Williams (1) [50]

Williams is listed at “RS” on the Eagles’ official website roster page. We’ll see if he’s lining up with a specific position group (perhaps running backs?) during OTAs. Nick Sirianni really talked Williams up during his media availability at the NFL owners meetings in late March. We’ll see if he has an offensive role as a gadget guy. At the very least, he figures to returns punts for the Eagles and perhaps kicks as well.

KICKER: Jake Elliott (1) [51]

Mark my words: Elliott will bounce back after struggling in 2024.

PUNTER: Braden Mann (1) [52]

Mann is entering a contract year. He can earn an extension with another good season.

LONG SNAPPER: Charley Hughlett (1) [53]

In case you missed it, Rick Lovato is no longer the Eagles’ long snapper.

INJURY DESIGNATIONS

PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM LIST (PUP): Nakobe Dean

Dean suffered a torn patellar tendon on January 12. There’s talk about him being ahead of schedule. If true, that’s great! But the feeling here is that expectations should be tempered given the serious nature of the injury. If Dean begins the season on the PUP list, he’s required to miss at least the Eagles’ first four games before being eligible to return to action.

INJURED RESERVE (ELIGIBLE TO RETURN): Ainias Smith, Cameron Williams

Quick reminder that the NFL now allows teams to put up to two players on injured reserve prior to cutting down to 53 players with eligibility to return after four missed games (read: “phantom IR”). The Eagles used this maneuver with Ainias Smith and Albert Okwuegbunam last year. I’m projecting Smith to fall in the same bucket this year where he doesn’t look good enough to make the roster but the Eagles don’t want to take the L on a 2024 draft pick. And Williams seems like an ideal IR stash as someone who has long-term upside but likely won’t be ready to play in 2025.

PRACTICE SQUAD

QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, RB Lew Nichols, RB ShunDerrick Powell, WR Terrace Marshall, WR Taylor Morin, TE Kylen Granson, OL Brett Toth, OT Hollin Pierce, EDGE Ochaun Mathis, EDGE KJ Henry, DT Byron Young, LB Dallas Gant, CB Eli Ricks, CB Parry Nickerson, S Maxen Hook, S Lewis Cine

International exemption: OT Laekin Vakalahi

Eagles OTA practice notes: There’s certainly competition at cornerback and safety

NFL: MAY 28 Philadelphia Eagles OTA

Photo by Terence Lewis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Observations from the team’s first media-attended spring practice.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles held the first of two OTA practices open to media access on Wednesday afternoon and I was there at the NovaCare Complex to watch the action unfold. Let’s get to some observations!

  • ANNUAL DISCLAIMER: Before we get started, please remember that the Eagles don’t permit video recordings/photography after warmups and position drills. So, that’s why you’re not seeing any team drill highlights.
  • The Eagles were inside their practice bubble since it was raining outside. Check out the new decorations:

Eagles practicing inside today.

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) May 28, 2025
  • ATTENDANCE UPDATES: It bears repeating that OTAs are voluntary, so it’s not the biggest deal for players to be missing. DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Reed Blankenship, Bryce Huff, and Avery Williams were notably not spotted at practice. Thomas Mott noted that he saw DeVonta and Lane at NovaCare while attending Tuesday’s practice. Blankenship can be seen in a team-issued video clip from Tuesday’s practice. Williams’ absence is annoying since it’ll be interesting to see where he lines up. Huff missing in the aftermath of trade rumors from earlier this offseason certainly feels noteworthy.
  • INJURY UPDATES: Cam Jurgens, Nakobe Dean, and Jihaad Campbell made appearances in the practice bubble but did not participate due to injury. Landon Dickerson and Ben VanSumeren were not seen at practice while they’re likely still recovering from injury. Nolan Smith was able to participate in practice in a limited capacity; he did individual drills but not team sessions as he recovers from the torn triceps injury he suffered in Super Bowl LIX. A.J. Brown and Saquon Barkley aren’t injured but they didn’t do much in practice as the Eagles look to preserve them.

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) May 28, 2025
  • DEPTH CHART NOTES, DEFENSE EDITION: The Eagles’ first-team defense in the first 7-on-7 period had Zack Baun and Jeremiah Trotter Jr at linebacker, Cooper DeJean at nickel cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell at left cornerback, Adoree’ Jackson at right cornerback, and Andrew Mukuba and Sydney Brown at safety. In base defense, DeJean moved to RCB with him and Mitchell as the only corners on the field. In other nickel looks, Kelee Ringo rotated in for Jackson as the top RCB. Ringo also saw time at LCB with Eli Ricks as the RCB on the second-team defense. There seems to be a very real battle for the starting CB job. At safety, Lewis Cine and Andre’ Sam separately rotated in with the first-team defense. There’s also competition there.
  • DEPTH CHART NOTES, OFFENSE EDITION: The Eagles’ starting offensive line from left to tackle with Dickerson, Jurgens, and Johnson all not practicing: LT Jordan Mailata, LG Matt Pryor, C Brett Toth, RG Tyler Steen, RT Darian Kinnard.
  • One of my bigger takeaways from each year’s first OTA practice is seeing how new players look in person. Last year, Barkley stood out for being huge while Huff looked so tiny. This year, Adoree’ Jackson stood out for looking smaller than I expected him to be. In fairness, that single digit No. 8 jersey is a slimming look. But his lack of size certainly stands out in contrast to Kelee Ringo, who’s big for a cornerback. Rookie Drew Mukuba is on the thinner side but he’s not small. Rookie Antwaun Powell-Ryland is listed as 10 pounds lighter than Brandon Graham but APR’s stocky build reminded me of BG (so weird to be at an Eagles practice with BG no longer part of the team, by the way).
  • Ringo led Eagles defensive backs in a huddle prior to a DB drill. Perhaps he’s taking on more of a leadership role in Year 3, especially now that Darius Slay is gone.
  • JALEN HURTS UPDATE: The reigning Super Bowl MVP looked sharp. He didn’t push the ball down the field much but he did get rid of the ball quickly to make accurate throws. His sole incompletion still hit Dallas Goedert’s outstretched hand with the pass being slightly too wide of his target. Hurts made a nice anticipatory throw to a crossing Goedert at one point. There were some good tight window completions.
  • No surprise here but Goedert still looks pretty good. Good thing the Eagles kept him.

Dallas Goedert acknowledged there was a time he wasn’t sure he’d be back on the Eagles in 2025. He was away from the team at the beginning of the offseason workout program.

He added that there were possibilities of trades/cuts. pic.twitter.com/QhNl7G9BM3

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) May 28, 2025
  • Pretty hard to know what to make of Patullo as an offensive coordinator after a single OTA practice. But I do think he performed well in the press conference setting, for whatever that’s worth.
  • Tanner McKee mostly looked good as QB2. He hit Danny Gray down the field for a touchdown on what appeared to be a busted coverage that involved Parry Nickerson. McKee also threw a deep touchdown to undrafted rookie Darius Cooper, who roasted fellow UDFA cornerback B.J. Mayes. McKee also hit Harrison Bryant for a 20-yard gain through the air. Two of McKee’s passes did get deflected.
  • On that note, Smael Mondon Jr. (working alongside Dallas Gant at second-team linebacker) got his hands on a short McKee pass to Kylen Granson near the left sideline. Andre’ Sam also brought up a McKee pass intended for Grant Calcaterra. I know people are excited about Cine as a former first-round pick who also went to Georgia but I wouldn’t sleep on Sam beating him out.
  • Jahan Dotson had two receptions from Hurts! One was a checkdown after Hurts went through all of his other reads. The other was a primary read. Recall that Hurts only targeted Dotson 27 times in 19 starts last year. Maybe they’re making some progress.
  • Will Shipley, who was up as the first running back with Barkley mostly resting, had a lot of catches today. Kenny Gainwell only saw 25 targets as RB2 in 21 games last year. I envision Shipley clearing that number in 2025.
  • Eagles inside linebackers coach Bobby King and Jihaad Campbell were having a long conversation on the sideline towards the end of practice. Probably more evidence that Campbell will be more of an off-ball linebacker than an edge rusher.
  • Vic Fangio was the only member of the Eagles’ entire organization wearing Kelly Green at practice. He was wearing a hoodie.
  • Dorian Thompson-Robinson was QB3 and Kyle McCord was QB4. DTR only saw a few reps while McCord attempted a single throw. These two could struggle to find practice reps but they should get plenty of playing time in the preseason games.

UP NEXT: The Eagles’ remaining OTA practice schedule: May 30, June 2-3, June 5. Media is expected to be able to attend one of next week’s sessions. The Eagles will then hold a single day of mandatory minicamp on June 10.

The Linc - Bryce Huff “is unlikely to be part of the Eagles’ plans for 2025”

Washington Commanders v Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/29/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Eagles practice observations: Bryce Huff’s absence; cornerback and safety competitions; Cooper DeJean to the outside? - Inquirer
Bryce Huff wasn’t at practice. In fact, the defensive end hasn’t attended Eagles’ workouts this entire spring, an NFL source said. That doesn’t necessarily come as a huge surprise since he is unlikely to be part of the Eagles’ plans for 2025. General manager Howie Roseman, when asked about Huff in early February, might have said his story “is yet to be written,” but the fact that he was inactive for the Super Bowl said more about his future in Philadelphia. Huff is still under contract and is owed $16.75 million in guaranteed money this season. Workouts are voluntary, but his absence suggests it was mutually agreed upon. The Eagles don’t want him getting injured in case they can still unload him after June 1 — when it would make more fiscal sense — and he certainly doesn’t want to be where he isn’t exactly wanted.

Eagles at OTAs: 15 things we learned, from Bryce Huff’s absence to Cooper DeJean’s usage - PHLY
1. It’s sensible not to overreact to attendance during a voluntary session in May, although it’s hard to ignore Bryce Huff’s absence. He was a key player to watch considering he went from a $17 million per year signing last offseason — signed for more than Saquon Barkley — to inactive in the Super Bowl. His role on the team is uncertain this year; it’s not known if he will even be on the roster. Huff could be easier to move after June 1, although that would require an interested team. The Eagles have mandatory minicamp in two weeks. We’ll track his status leading up to that camp. This situation could be comparable to that of James Bradberry last season.

Eagles OTA practice notes: There’s certainly competition at cornerback and safety - BGN
DEPTH CHART NOTES, DEFENSE EDITION: The Eagles’ first-team defense in the first 7-on-7 period had Zack Baun and Jeremiah Trotter Jr at linebacker, Cooper DeJean at nickel cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell at left cornerback, Adoree’ Jackson at right cornerback, and Andrew Mukuba and Sydney Brown at safety.

Will Eagles use Cooper DeJean differently in Year 2? - NBCSP
It was just a handful of snaps in an indoor practice in May. So maybe don’t get too carried away just yet. But it could be a sign of things to come. As Cooper DeJean enters his second NFL season in 2025, the Eagles are at least toying with the idea of playing him as an outside corner in addition to his role as a nickel cornerback. “I’ll play wherever, to be honest,” DeJean said on Wednesday. “Wherever they put me on the football field, I’ll play there. As long as I’m out there, I’ll be ready to play no matter the position, whether it’s corner, nickel or safety.” The Eagles kicked off their voluntary OTA practices this week on Tuesday but Wednesday was the first time reporters got a glimpse of the team. And while most of DeJean’s snaps still came on the inside in the nickel package with five defensive backs on the field, he did bounce outside when the Eagles went to their base defense with four DBs.

2025 NFL offseason: NFC teams’ best and worst deals, picks, more - ESPN
Roseman is set to spend a whopping $217.3 million on the offensive side of the ball in 2025. That’s $30 million more than any other team, with the Chiefs in second at $187.2 million. Burrow’s Bengals, having paid wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins after Burrow’s public suggestions to do so, are in third at $186.3 million. (Cincinnati is apparently following Burrow’s request to emulate the Eagles very closely by not paying edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.) Is heavily spending on one side of the ball a wise plan? Well, it certainly worked for the Eagles last season. If a team was going to choose a side of the ball to focus on, offense would be the wiser choice. Research by Football Outsiders found that offensive performance was more consistent from year to year than defense, suggesting an organization is more likely to get what it paid for by leaning into spending on the guys who put up the points. And if anyone has seen that play out in reality, it’s the Eagles: While their offense has ranked seventh or better in points scored per possession over the past three seasons, their defense has gone from 11th in 2022 to 30th in 2023 before improving all the way to second last season.

Dallas Goedert is ‘stoked’ to be an Eagle for at least one more year - PhillyVoice
He’s still here – “stoked to be,” he said – and now that all the springtime trade rumors have been put to rest, he’s shifting his focus on that title to defend. “There were a lot of emotions that went on through the offseason,” Goedert told the local media during OTAs at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday. “Not sure if you’re gonna be here, not sure if you’re not. There were sad emotions of leaving. There was the excitement of a change, seeing something different...It just kind of went back and forth. You tried to just kind of balance those... “Seven off seasons, and this is the first time I had to deal with this,” Goedert continued. “So I’m pretty lucky, but it was an interesting feeling, for sure.”

This is Patullo’s time. He has paid his dues. He has known his role and, frankly, has been a star in that role designing the team’s passing game. And now he is the guy who stands alone and addresses the entire offense and who hears the input from other coaches and who, on gamedays and nights, will be the one to call the plays and to take what he’s learned in an NFL coaching career that dates back to 2007 and 2008 with Kansas City, designing with Gailey and those coaches a totally new offense when the team had to rely on the talents of Tyler Thigpen at quarterback and guiding him to the best season of his career (18 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions, 386 rushing yards, and 3 scores on the ground largely playing out of the pistol, an innovation in those times). Patullo will lean into the offensive line and running back Saquon Barkley and the fabulous receiving duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert and, of course, the myriad talents of quarterback Jalen Hurts. The pieces are there.

Eagles’ Brandon Graham selected as PFWA 2025 Good Guy Award winner - PFWA
Recently retired Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham, who was praised for his dealings with local and national media during the previous season and his entire career, has been selected as the 2025 Good Guy Award winner by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA). Graham, the 21st Good Guy Award winner, is the third member of the Eagles franchise to win the award, joining two-time winner Chris Long (2018, 2019) and Jason Kelce (2023). Eagles players have been presented four total Good Guy Awards, the most among NFL franchises.

Sando: My favorite offseason move by every NFL team - The Athletic
Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles’ all-out effort to keep the tush push legal, complete with in-person lobbying from owner Jeffrey Lurie and former center Jason Kelce, helped Philly preserve its offensive identity, maintaining an important edge. Buying at least another year for the tush push felt like an upset victory for the Eagles after momentum built to ban the play.

Browns’ Kenny Pickett: Year in Philadelphia showed me ‘how it’s supposed to be done’ - NFL.com
Kenny Pickett spent last year on a magic carpet ride in Philadelphia to a Super Bowl ring as the backup to Jalen Hurts. As the former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick begins a QB battle in Cleveland, he believes that time in Philadelphia has made him ready to start once again. “I’m extremely grateful for my time in Philly,” Pickett said on Wednesday, via the Browns’ official transcript. “I think I was just shown how it’s supposed to be done, really, from the top down. So when you get a chance to see what it’s supposed to look like and how it should look on a day-to-day basis, not just on Sundays. You know, I think it’ll pay dividends for me in the future.”

The Steelers have a new No. 14 following the George Pickens trade - Behind The Steel Curtain
The Steelers didn’t waste much time putting George Pickens’ old uniform number back in circulation. After issuing the No. 14 to newly-signed rookie wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig on Tuesday, Steelers.com’s Dale Lolley reported early Wednesday that the number has changed hands again; this time to running back Kenneth Gainwell, a 2025 free agent signing.

Revisiting the Darius Slay trade after 5 years - Pride Of Detroit
Who won the Darius Slay trade between the Eagles and the Lions? While I think the Lions are largely satisfied with the return from this trade, especially considering the potential risk posed by giving a bunch of guaranteed money to an aging corner, but the Eagles do come out ahead. Slay’s contributions to two Super Bowl teams along with an impressive run of four-straight Pro Bowl appearances outweigh what the Lions got from Jonah Jackson and a pair of rotational/depth players. Nobody “lost” this trade, but Philadelphia is the winner. Slay made a total of $66.2 million over five years in Philadelphia, working out to $13.2 million per year.

Darius Slay on offseason workouts: If you want to be a champion, you have to sacrifice - PFT
With the ghost of quarterback future haunting the Steelers as they commence their 2025 OTAs, every word said by players and coaches will be examined for any express or implied messages regarding quarterback Aaron Rodgers. New Steelers cornerback Darius Slay made some comments on Wednesday that could be regarded as a message for the signal-caller Slay regarded as a rival during his seven seasons in Detroit.

Trade revisited: Sam Bradford traded for Nick Foles 10 years later - Turf Show Times
While neither team made much noise in the 2015, the trade allowed both teams to move up in the 2016 NFL draft to take their franchise quarterbacks. However, the Eagles were able to trade Bradford for a steep price to the Vikings for a first-round draft pick in 2017 (which turned into defensive end Derek Barnett) that set them up for their Super Bowl run that year. In the end, Philly got better compensation for Bradford than Snead was able to and found a way to get Foles back on the team which all lead to the City of Brotherly Love’s first Lombardi Trophy.

Revisiting the Trent Williams trade 5 years later - Hogs Haven
There’s obviously more going on here than just a simple “player for picks” trade, as the drama surrounding Trent Williams and Washington had reached a boiling point the previous season and keeping him around was completely off the table. That being said, it’s pretty obvious that Washington handled this poorly and probably could’ve improved their return for Williams if they hadn’t let the situation get so bad. Instead, they had to settle for below market value for Williams. While Washington did manage to get a starter out of the deal in Benjamin St-Juste, he never rose to the level of an impact player. Keith Ismael did make the roster and provide some depth, but only stuck with the team for two seasons. Meanwhile, the 49ers got a discount on one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL and were rewarded with some of the most dominant years of Trent Williams’ career. While this wasn’t really a situation that set Washington up for success, it’s clear that the 49ers emerged as the dominant winner in this particular trade. WINNER: 49ers

5 cornerbacks not named Jalen Ramsey the Cowboys should pursue - Blogging The Boys
Asante Samuel Jr. This has been a popular name among the fan base for some time. Asante Samuel Jr. was a hot target in many Cowboys mock drafts back in 2021, but he landed with the Chargers. He proceeded to record two interceptions and at least 11 pass breakups in each of his first three seasons, quickly becoming a star. Last year was cut short due to a neck injury, which is why Samuel remains unsigned to this point. There have been whispers that Samuel is due for a check-up on his neck in the next month or so, and that teams are likely to wait until then to make any move on him. Assuming he gets the all-clear, Samuel would be a no-brainer for the Cowboys. He primarily played outside in Los Angeles, which would allow DaRon Bland to move inside to the slot on nickel downs and also give Dallas a legitimate starter in the likely event that Trevon Diggs isn’t ready to go by Week 1. But it all depends on the medicals for Samuel.

Malik Nabers not practicing for Giants due to toe injury - Big Blue View
The New York Giants had perfect attendance on Wednesday for their second OTA of 2025. A very important Giant, though, only stood and watched. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had a franchise record 109 receptions as a rookie last season, did not practice due to a nagging toe injury. “We’re being mindful of his toe that he’s had,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “Nothing serious but we’re being smart with him in terms of the rehab part of it.” Daboll said that Nabers, the Giants’ first-round pick in 2024, did not have surgery on his toe during the offseason.

Dallas Goedert says he’s “super stoked to be back” with the Eagles

Goedert.0.jpg

The Eagles TE said it was an emotional offseason with so much uncertainty, but he’s excited to be back in Philly.

After much offseason back and forth, the Eagles and tight end Dallas Goedert were able to agree on a restructured deal to keep the TE in Philly. He spoke to reporters during OTAs and explained how he was prepared for either outcome, but is glad to try and run it back with this team.

When asked if there was a point this offseason that the TE didn’t think he’d be back with the Eagles, Goedert admitted that there was.

“There was a little bit of uncertainty going into the offseason. Talked to my agent, talked with Howie [Roseman]. There was a time where — I wasn’t here for the beginning of OTAs, we were trying to figure out what was going to happen. And, you know, we came to the agreement of the contract I’m on, and I’m super stoked to be back here.

Got a lot of love for a lot of people in this building. Got a lot of love for Philadelphia, so super glad to be back.”

He went on to say that there were talks between his agent and the organization about different trade options and cuts, and Goedert let his agent know what he thought would end up being best and what the numbers needed to look like.

Goedert explained that all the uncertainty led to a lot of different emotions, including being sad to possibly leave the city he’s played his whole career, but also a little bit of excitement about the possibility of trying something new. Ultimately, though, he’s happy they were able to get a new deal that keeps him in Philly, somewhere he’s really comfortable.

“At some point, I wouldn’t want to play for less. I feel like I know my value, I feel like the Eagles know my value, and just finding something I was okay with — a number I felt excited, my time was worth it. Whatever I can do on the field, I feel like there was a threshold I deserved, and like I said, we were able to get there.”

He was loosely familiar with other teammates who have dealt with similar contract situations, but knew not to take things personally. Goedert said he was still in contact with Jalen Hurts, and Howie Roseman was upfront with the TE about what he thought was the best thing for the organization and the best for him.

Goedert also clarified speculation that he asked for a trade or release. Still, when asked if he considered this new deal a one-year stop or if he still wanted to be in Philly long term, the TE hedged a bit and said that he’s really looking forward to this season.

“Obviously, I’d like to play my entire career in Philadelphia, but I’m not too worried about that. I’m excited to see what happens this year. Excited to put up a really good year — have a successful year with an incredible team, and, you know, let my agent handle his job and talk after this season. Like I said, I’m excited to be back.”

The tight end said it was really important that things didn’t get acrimonious and that things were handled respectfully from both parties. He reiterated that he has a lot of respect for how people in the organization handle things, and he wasn’t letting his ego get in the way. At the end of the day, Goedert didn’t care to be the highest paid or anything like that, he just wanted something that he thought was fair.

Bryce Huff trade: Eagles reportedly send free agent flop to 49ers in exchange for draft pick

Atlanta Falcons v Philadelphia Eagles

A rumored move is coming to fruition.

The Philadelphia Eagles are trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a Day 3 draft pick, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Due to salary cap considerations, this trade won’t become official until after June 1. Huff and the Eagles reportedly agreed to a restructured contract that offers financial relief to Philly. ESPN’s Field Yates shared more details on that front:

The cap specifics of this deal:

The Eagles declined Bryce Huff’s $15.58M fully guaranteed option bonus, which turned it into base salary.

Philadelphia then turned $9.05M of that base salary into a signing bonus, which allows San Francisco to take on the remaining money ($7.95M).

In sum, the Eagles save $7.95M in cash and create north of $15M in 2025 cap space.

San Francisco will inherit the final two years of Huff’s deal, owing him $7.95M in cap and cash for this year.

Huff’s departure certainly doesn’t come as a surprise. He was incredibly disappointing for the Eagles last season after being their top 2024 free agent signing in terms of contract value (yes, even above Saquon Barkley).

Dating back to last year’s training camp, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio didn’t exactly seem keen on Huff’s outlook. Huff then struggled in the regular season to the point where he was “unplayable.” He suffered a thumb injury in early November that caused him to play with a cast on his hand before going on injured reserve. Huff later returned from IR but he barely played in the playoffs; he was a healthy scratch in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory.

Any hope of Huff returning to form in Philly was dashed earlier this week when it was revealed that he wasn’t attending the Eagles’ voluntary offseason workout program. The feeling here has been that Fangio simply does not trust him to play in his system, so therefore keeping Huff was pretty pointless. With that in mind, clearing salary and getting any kind of asset for him in return is a win. The 49ers are obviously banking on Huff being able to rebound now that he’s reunited with former New York Jets head coach and current San Francsico defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

The Huff signing was obviously a big miss for Roseman in an otherwise excellent offseason from the Eagles’ general manager. He did well here to salvage that mistake as much as possible.

Moving forward, the Eagles still have questions at edge rusher. 2023 first-round pick Nolan Smith showed great potential down the stretch last season, as did rookie Jalyx Hunt to a lesser degree. The Birds need those young players to continue to progress. Philadelphia also signed free agent edge rushers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche before selecting Antwaun Powell-Ryland with their final pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Time will tell if their pass rush is good enough.

I just wanted to write about “The Dagger”

Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

There’s no hook to this story I just felt like talking about it.

I still can’t believe they did it.

“The Dagger.”

One of those few plays in Philadelphia sports history defined by the broadcaster, in this case Fox’s Kevin Burkhardt, who called it, Jalen Hurts’ deep bomb to DeVonta Smith in the third quarter of the Eagles’ eventual 40-22 victory over the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 is etched in NFL lore forever.

No, it’ll never be considered the “greatest” play in Eagles history, not when you have Super Bowl 52’s Philly Special or Brandon Graham’s strip sack of Tom Brady, and one could argue Cooper DeJean’s interception return is the biggest play from 59, but there’s no doubt “The Dagger” is one of the biggest flex plays in NFL history.

When I’m feeling a bit down or depressed, all I have to do is hop on YouTube and pull it up, and I immediately start feeling better.

a HOME COOKED 6-for-6 special ‍ @DeVontaSmith_6 | #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/Bp5EVx3Q8l

— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) February 10, 2025

The call by Burkhardt is just remarkable.

“Now the Eagles get it back. They’re gonna run some clock... or maybe... THROW THE DAGGER. HURTS GOING DEEP, FOR IT ALL... DEVONTA SMITH!!! HE’S GOT IT!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!”

In real time, it was almost impossible to process.

The Eagles, holding a commanding 27-0 lead with 2:47 left in the third quarter, had just snuffed out a 4th down attempt by the Chiefs thanks to an outstanding pass break-up by Avonte Maddox.

The rhythm of the game, as well as the fact the Eagles had a 2,000 yard rusher in the backfield, made it feel like the offense was going to do exactly what Burkhardt assumed they would do, and what they had done all year — ride Saquon Barkley into the sunset. Kill some clock. Suffocate Kansas City five yards at a time.

Little did we know Nick Sirianni and then-offensive coordinator Kellen Moore were planning on committing a murder.

Listening to them talk on the sidelines, it was clear Sirianni was urging Moore to end the game right then and there, telling him to “just call it.”

"If we score, it's over. Just call it."

Sirianni pushed Kellen Moore to call the deep bomb to DeVonta. pic.twitter.com/Vt0dwEFe1Q

— Brenden Deeg (@BrendenDeeg_) February 13, 2025

Merrill Reese’s call of the play was legendary as well.

“Hurts... back... looking... he is going deep... and it is... CAUGHT! TOUCHDOWN!!!”

There’s a Valentine’s Day Simpsons episode in which Ralph Wiggum is in love with Lisa, and after declaring his love for her on a TV show, Lisa screams in his face that she doesn’t like him, crushing his soul right in front of everyone’s eyes.

BART: “Watch this Lisa. You can actually pinpoint the second where his heart rips in half.”

I can’t help but think of that line when I watch the two Chiefs’ defenders on the sidelines bow their heads in despair, a clear acknowledgment that there was no way they could win. You can actually pinpoint the second where their hearts ripped in half.

I often have trouble deciding what my favorite part of that play is. Is it three defenders, Nos. 54, 32 and 23, completely selling out to stop Saquon, only to then be thrown into utter chaos when they realize Hurts is going deep?

Dart. Dot. Dime. Whatever you want to call it. 55 yards on a rope to ice the Super Bowl.

Just an insane throw from Jalen Hurts. pic.twitter.com/gx7JWqHRIa

— Brenden Deeg (@BrendenDeeg_) February 10, 2025

Is it the chatter by Chiefs players still trying to convince themselves they can come back even as they faced a four-score deficit late in the third quarter, seconds before being stabbed by “The Dagger?”

The transition from the Chiefs sideline to The Dagger™️ provides copious amounts of dopamine lol pic.twitter.com/CTOyszM1zv

— Life of a Philly Fan (@PhillyFanLife) March 25, 2025

Is it Smith casually flipping a strike to the official with his arms raised in the air to signal the touchdown?

Is it Jalen Hurts’ offensive linemen telling him how awesome he is and no one can touch him?

Is it Sirianni almost getting shoved to the ground by an excited coach on the sideline as Sirianni ran down the sideline like a maniac?

Which video is best? Is it the straight call from the game, by Burkhardt and Tom Brady?

Is it the NFL Films version, with that classic music providing the soundtrack?

There is absolutely no reason I’m writing this other than it made me feel good. I don’t know where this play ranks among all-time Eagles plays (it’s probably No. 3 for me, after the two big Super Bowl 52 moments I mentioned above), but it’s easily the most arrogant Eagles play in history, and I love it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this. I sure did.

Eagles Film Review: Kyle McCord could eventually develop into a backup quarterback

Miami v Syracuse

Photo by Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images

A closer look at Philadelphia’s seventh pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With the 2025 NFL Draft over, it’s time for some film rooms on the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie class. I will try to get to all 10 draft picks and the UDFAs over the next few weeks. Loads of scouting reports will say very similar things, so I have tried to include film clips to back up everything and I will talk about the player’s fit with the Eagles at the end of the piece. I managed to get the All22 for several rookies, but I can’t share those clips on my Twitter accounts (or I risk getting blocked), so I’ve used a few other accounts here. Let’s go!

You can check out my podcast feed here to hear more from me. I have a Patreon linked to my podcast if you want to support me further. Due to being unable to share All22 on Twitter, I am doing All22 watch-alongs on every Eagles’ rookie on the Patreon, which is really cool!

Previously: Jihaad Campbell / Andrew Mukuba / Ty Robinson / Mac McWilliams / Smael Mondon / Drew Kendall

It’s QB Factory time! Let’s go!

Strengths

+ He is accurate from the pocket when he has time to get the ball out on time. He is at his best when he plays on schedule and throws with timing and anticipation. He’s willing to fit throws into tight windows. He plays with no fear. He has big-time throws all over his film.

Kyle McCord started 13 games for Ohio State.

It didn’t always go as planned, but never forget the effort he played with in leading the Buckeyes to some big wins in 2023.

+ He can get the ball down the field and throws accurately outside the numbers. This is something the Eagles prioritize in their offense.

— CFBLIVE247™ (@CFBLive247_) February 6, 2023

+ He’s got the old-school mentality of being willing to take a hit while throwing down the field. He will stand in and deliver with defenders closing in. He’s a gunslinger at heart.

Kyle McCord was asked about how to play confidently and freely against a team like Notre Dame:

"Regardless of who you're playing, that you should be your mindset, just going out there and not holding anything back." pic.twitter.com/BUhwhY77Qo

— Lantern Sports (@LanternSports) September 21, 2023

+ He throws with excellent touch at times. He can layer the ball over the top of linebackers and understands how to give his receivers a fighting chance in one-on-one matchups.

This throw by Kyle McCord throwing thirty yards opposite hash for a touchdown is elite. The only reason we aren’t talking about it more is because Marvin Harrison Jr. stepped out of bounds running the route.

Ryan Day needs to open up the playbook and let Kyle McCord sling it. pic.twitter.com/0hQG5Z248D

— The Scarlet and Gray Podcast (@TheSG_Podcast) September 3, 2023

+ Set single-season records at Syracuse in 2024, led FBS in completions and passing yards. McCord was a good college QB.

+ He looks the part as a thrower. I’m not a QB mechanics guy, but nothing terrible stands out. His footwork and release look very solid.

+ He doesn’t seem to let one or two bad plays impact him, and he will keep playing his game. I love the mentality, even if it can lead to a few disastrous games when you look at the stats sheet. The intangibles are there!

I’m still thinking how aces Kyle McCord was in that last drive. 4th and 7, 3rd and 19!?!?. Are you kidding me? Unbelievable composure. Excited for what’s to come for him. pic.twitter.com/QomFC05oCv

— The Buckeye Nut (@TheBuckeyeNut) September 25, 2023

Weaknesses

- He’s not a very good athlete. He’s a statue under pressure who won’t be able to escape from the pocket or extend plays consistently.

- Despite being willing to stand in the pocket and deliver under pressure, his accuracy suffers when he is under pressure. Due to his inability to escape, he can force some throws when he knows pressure is coming. Just like this...

KYLE MCCORD PICKED OFF

MICHIGAN SEALS THE GAME

(via @CFBONFOX) pic.twitter.com/2mdlK3aKS5

— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) November 25, 2023

- He locks onto his primary reads too often and fails to move defenders with his eyes, which causes too many interceptions.

- He tends to force throws into tight windows (which is awesome at times) and his decision-making becomes questionable when under pressure. 12 interceptions in 2024 is a real worry.

— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) October 25, 2024

- He has ‘good enough’ arm strength, but it’s nothing special. It’s average at best.

Overall

I have seen a few comments asking if Kyle McCord could eventually replace Tanner McKee as QB2, enabling the Eagles to trade McKee. My answer is no. I don’t think that makes sense. I remember watching Tanner McKee’s film after the draft and being incredibly excited. This is what I said about McKee post-draft in 2023!

However, after watching him, I sort of love the pick. I’m sorry. I can’t help it. I love these big old-fashioned pocket passers even if the NFL has passed them by. Five years ago, Tanner McKee is definitely an early-round pick. He can do so many things well. He throws with beautiful touch down the field, is pretty consistent with his ball placement, and can get through his progressions.

I enjoyed watching McCord, but he didn’t ‘pop’ like McKee did. McCord looks like a solid QB who does a number of things at a decent level. He just doesn’t have the arm talent that McKee does. McKee’s upside is higher because he’s a better thrower of the football.

I find it interesting that the Eagles seem to target either a mobile backup (Marcus Mariota, Dorian Thompson-Robinson) or an old-school pocket passer (Kenny Pickett, Tanner McKee, Kyle McCord). I am OK with having an immobile backup as long as they can play on time. I expect McCord to beat out DTR, despite DTR having a lot more mobility. DTR would help the Eagles’ running game out if he had to play, but he is technically miles behind McCord as a pure passer. I wouldn’t trust DTR if he had to play a game or two. I think McCord could do enough without wrecking the offense. However, he does have that gunslinger mentality, and you could absolutely see him throwing 4 interceptions in a game. I think McCord will beat out DTR and take the QB3 spot this year, based on what I have seen from both of them. However, if the Eagles do want a more mobile option at quarterback, then DTR is the obvious choice.

Overall, Kyle McCord is a timing-based pocket passer who excels within structure and struggles when outside of it. He has OK arm talent and throws with good touch and accuracy, but his limited athleticism, erratic play under pressure, and turnover risk create some risk at the next level. However, McCord isn’t someone who appears bothered by turnovers and is willing to throw into tight windows over and over. Give me an aggressive quarterback to develop, rather than one who only checks down. With the right environment and patience, he could eventually develop into the Eagles' QB2 down the line, but he’ll likely begin his NFL journey competing for the QB3 position.

Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to comment below and ask any questions. If you enjoyed this piece, you can find more of my work and podcast here.

Eagles sign undrafted rookie offensive lineman

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 05 Clemson at Florida State

Photo by Chris Leduc/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The Birds are adding some more OL depth to their offseason roster.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing undrafted rookie free agent offensive lineman Marcus Tate, according to an official team announcement.

The Clemson alumnus previously participated in the Eagles’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis back in early May.

Tate, 22, was a four-year starter who missed a number of games due to multiple injury issues. Save for 14 sparing snaps at right tackle in 2024, he exclusively played at left guard.

Some projected Tate to be a Day 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but there were likely questions about his health and his lack of versatility. He also has very tiny hands, relatively speaking.

On the bright side, Tate does boast more than adequate size for a guard at 6’5”, 321 pounds. He’ll now get a chance to study at Jeff Stoutland University.

The odds are obviously against Tate sticking around but maybe he can show that he’s worth developing on the practice squad.

Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

A four-year starter with good size and strength, Tate’s injuries over the last three years have stolen some shine from his play. He’s better in pass protection than he is as a run blocker. He plays with elevated pads that rob him of drive power, but he can play on the move and has a good feel for angles to execute in space. He’s technically sound in pass pro with a sturdy base, a crisp punch and the ability to keep rushers in front of him, but he has occasional issues with long twists and blitzers. There is some favorable tape for Tate, but his injury history makes projecting his pro potential a bit murky.

At practice but not practicing: Jihaad Campbell, Cam Jurgens, Avery Williams, Elijah Cooks, Cameron Latu, Marcus Tate.

  • INJURY UPDATES: Prior to Tuesday’s practice, Vic Fangio was available for his first press conference since leading up to Super Bowl LIX. Among the many noteworthy things he had to say, Fangio revealed that Campbell might not be on the practice field until August and Dean “won’t be back for a while.”
  • JALEN HURTS UPDATE: The reigning Super Bowl MVP continues to look sharp; the ball has barely hit the ground during his two media-attended OTA practices. The vast majority of his passing attempts have been short throws where the ball is coming out quick. But Hurts did notably push the ball downfield to Dallas Goedert, who was able to make an over-the-shoulder catch in stride (with Zach Baun trailing close behind) for a big gain down the left sideline. That was the play of the day.

  • Tanner McKee has looked pretty good as QB2. It’s been nice to see him get extended reps after he barely got much practice action as QB3 over the past two years. McKee’s standout play was a strike over the middle to Danny Gray.
  • POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — CORNERBACK: Cooper DeJean was once again the starting right cornerback in the Eagles’ base defense. He remains their starting slot cornerback. Prior to practice, Fangio talked about figuring out if they want DeJean to play outside CB or safety (!) when they’re in base (which he also mentioned they played just 160 base snaps in 21 total games last year). DeJean has yet to rep at safety in team drills during a media-attended practice, however. When the Eagles were in nickel, Kelee Ringo was first up at RCB in the Eagles’ first first-team 11-on-11 series. Adoree’ Jackson then came in at RCB during a first-team 7-on-7 period. We’ll likely continue to see Ringo and Jackson rotate throughout the summer as they battle for the RCB job in the Eagles’ nickel defense.
  • Based on his post-practice press conference, Jackson seems like a fun personality who doesn’t always take things too seriously. Adding a veteran who’s able to provide some levity to the locker room could be good now that Darius Slay is gone.
  • POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — SAFETY: Blankenship and Sydney Brown were the first-team safeties in the first 7-on-7 series and the first 11-on-11 series. Drew Mukuba later rotated in for Brown, however, in 11-on-11. Mukuba was also up with Blankenship as the first-team safeties in the second 7-onn-7 period. Andre’ Sam was also paired with Blankenship at one point in 7-on-7. Fangio talked about the safety battle prior to practice. A little interesting that he made an unprompted mention of Tristin McCollum.

Vic Fangio was asked about the safety position battle between Sydney Brown and Drew Mukuba.

He said it’ll take training camp and some preseason games to figure out.

He also went out of his way to mention Tristin McCollum is in the mix there, too.#Eagles

  • POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — RIGHT GUARD: Tyler Steen was the first-team right guard once again. There’s currently no rotation going on there. If there was, Matt Pryor is probably the top contender for that spot since he’s the second-team right guard. Kenyon Green has been repping at left guard, where he’s exclusively played in the NFL. Green rotated in for Trevor Keegan on the second-team offensive line, which also featured veteran Kendall Lamm at left tackle, rookie Drew Kendall at center, and Darian Kinnard at right tackle.
  • POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — LINEBACKER: There doesn’t actually appear to be one here. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is consistently lining up next to Zack Baun on the first-team defense. Maybe Smael Mondon Jr. can make some noise in training camp. And we’ll see how things go when Campbell and Dean are eventually ready to return. Until they’re healthy, though, Trot Jr. appears to be the guy.
  • POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — QB3: Dorian Thompson-Robinson got the first set of third-team reps in 7-on-7. There was no fourth team. Later on, Kyle McCord was the third quarterback. The rookie made a couple nice throws! He had a tight window completion to Nick Muse, who was running an out route to the left sideline. McCord then got the ball to Granson over the middle in traffic. Incredibly small sample size thus far but McCord seems to be clearing the very low bar previously set by Clayton Thorson/Carson Strong, who basically looked hopeless from the jump.
  • POSITION BATTLE — BACKUP TIGHT ENDS: Kylen Granson made a toe-tapping sideline catch. Harrison Bryant seemingly had a miscommunication with McKee at one point. Bryant also lost a contested catch battle to rookie Mac McWilliams.
  • AJ Dillon doesn’t profile as a pass-catching running back but he had a couple grabs in the flat. He doesn’t look unnatural doing it.

  • For what it’s worth, the first-team kickoff coverage unit: Kelee Ringo, Ainias Smith, Patrick Johnson, Kylen Granson, Drew Mukuba, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Sydney Brown, Jalyx Hunt, Cooper DeJean (and then later Parry Nickerson in place of DeJean).
  • Speaking of Nickerson, he rotated in with the first-team defense at nickel cornerback when DeJean came out. Fangio seems to like him. Not sure the journeyman veteran needs to be kept on the roster but he could be a good experienced depth option on the practice squad.
  • Kick returners: Undrafted rookie running back ShunDerrick Powell, undrafted rookie wide receiver Giles Jackson, and Danny Gray.
  • Gray has been a popular target on the second-team offense. I had him on my 53-man roster projection I put out prior to OTAs. Name to keep an eye on this summer.
  • Avery Williams was previously listed at “RS” (return specialist) on the Eagles’ roster. He’s now listed as a wide receiver. We’ve yet to see him practice, though.

UP NEXT: The Eagles’ remaining OTA practice schedule: June 5. The Eagles will then hold a single day of mandatory minicamp on June 10. After that, coaches and players will be off until training camp begins in mid-to-late July.

Philadelphia is adding more WR depth.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Ife Adeyi, according to the NFL’s official transaction notice.

Adeyi was not picked in the 2025 NFL Draft after playing two years at Sam Houston State. In 16 total games played, he logged just 37 receptions for 345 yards (9.3 average) and one touchdown. He did have nine rushing attempts go for 76 yards (8.4 average) and a touchdown in addition to returning 10 punts for 63 yards (6.3 average).

The Eagles previously invited Adeyi to participate in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He’s clearly a long shot to make the regular season roster but the Eagles are taking a flier on the small but speedy wideout.

Ife Adeyi is a WR prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.58 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 149 out of 3522 WR from 1987 to 2025.

The Eagles had an open roster spot to fill after officially trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers. After signing Adeyi, they currently have 91 players under contract, including international exemption Laekin Vakalahi ... who doesn’t count towards the 90-player offseason roster limit.
